What Shall We Bake Today?

In our house, we hate to waste food, so when our bananas are past the good-to-eat stage, I freeze them to make banana bread at another time.  The morning I want to bake some banana bread, I take them out to thaw and drain slightly before adding to the other ingredients. This recipe is super easy and so delicious!

Banana Bread

Ingredients

2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup sugar

3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

3 medium ripe mashed bananas

1 egg

3 tablespoons vegetable oil

¾ cup milk

1 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350*.  Grease and flour 1 9 x 5 or 2 8 x4 loaf pans.  Place all ingredients into a large mixing bowl and beat on medium speed for ½ a minute, scraping the bottom and sides constantly.  Pour into pan(s).  Bake 55-65 minutes.  Cool slightly. Remove from pan and cool completely before slicing. Enjoy!

  1. Morning All!
yesterday got pretty warm in the afternoon and after hubby ran the tractor up and down the driveway, the sun melted a bunch more! we were able to bring the truck back up and park it in the garage. This morning it appears to have snowed some more overnight…sigh

    1. Morning! Glad to hear things improved – ice this morning under the snow, I’ll bet! IDT we got any more snow although it’s still pitch-black outside so I can’t really tell. Low temp of -6, now temp is sitting at 1. It’s not going to last long – into the 40’s on Sunday and rain possible next week. If it’s too much rain, with the snow remaining, there will be flooding. It’s always something, isn’t it?

IDK how often or when or how far back you go when you read at M’s so I will briefly summarize what you may not have seen yet. While talking to my Sis, she also did some web surfing (she’s skilled – talk on the cell and use the same cell to search at the same time – a hell of a lot more than I can do! LOL – but I can kick her ass on a laptop!) and discovered that OTC Flonase (corticosteroid nasal spray) will often shrink nasal/sinus polyps and sometimes eliminate them entirely!!! WTF is THIS??!!?? An even MORE egregious violation by the E/N/T doctor – why did he NOT suggest that after the Prednisone had no effect? No, his next step was scheduling a CT scan. I think we know!

I have still not spoken to a local VA rep. If they don’t contact me by noon, I will call again and ask them to send me some Flonase or the generic equivalent. I originally signed up for mail-meds so they will put it in the mail in Lincoln and I’ll have it within 2 days. Worth a shot, anyway!

      1. Morning Filly!
it looked like a blizzard 5 minutes ago here…blowing and snowing. it has since calmed down to light snow. sigh
that’s great news about flonase–hope it works for you!!!!!
if it’s over the counter, will they still ship it to you??

        1. Yes – Sis said it is quite expensive and my specific coverage does include them. By rights, what SHOULD have happened, was the E/N/T doctor should have given me some from the gitgo and it would be billed to the VA. They keep OTC stuff like that on-hand or some generic version thereof, just like the OTC ointment they gave me for my leg. But that depends, I guess, on the details of the contract the Yankton system signed with the VA under Community Care.

          1. We just melted off last week’s 4 inches. No snow cover with 19° this am. It’s been an unusual winter with much less snow than what’s ordinary for midway between Chicago & Wisc. border.
We have two families with 5 grands between them south of Twin Cities & they just got 15 inches over last 2 days…they have had lots of snow this winter but, get this … our annual snowfall ordinarily exceeds theirs. Counterintuitive. Prolly due to our proximity to Lake Michigan. I think the jet stream is doing something different.

            1. the winds here have been extraordinary of late!
we’ve got a lot of mixed trees on the mountain, but the aspen and the birch are particularly susceptible to wind breakage. and now because the borer beetle, so are the ash. so high winds concern me.

              1. we harvest trees from the woods to burn every summer and it started with an ash tree here and there, but now? every ash tree is dying here. it’s almost a race to bring them down before they die completely…they can’t be burned when they’re “too dead” as my hubby calls it.

              2. & die they will…the green ash was heavily planted by communities around us cause they mature fairly quickly. Our burb increased the rate of replacement in the last 3 years. Now they’re winding down. Very few left.

              3. we’ve been trying to “grow” oak trees from the acorns in fall. one year we had about a dozen that sprouted. I took them out on the deck for some good spring sunshine and forgot to bring them in. overnight the squirrels had dug the saplings out of the pots and bit off the acorn still on the bottom of the plant. they all died.
I now have 2 small saplings I keep indoors–they’re about 2 years old and i do take them out in the summer, but bring them in when we’re not out there.
we live on a mature mountain–the trees are very tall with few lower branches–good for logging, but often they take the best wood out there.

              4. one year hubby built a wooden “tree” out of wooden slats. we attached pine cones I dipped in melted peanut butter and rolled in bird seed. we filled a bucket with rocks and “planted’ this tree for the birds. the first night we heard a racket and turned on the spotlights…2 squirrels had knocked over the tree and were trying to drag it off the deck by yanking on the pine cones.

  6. Gardner fired
    FTA
On Thursday, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey (R) fired Democratic St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner (D) after she refused to step down amid controversy stemming from policies that allowed a repeat offender to commit a violent crime.

The offender, Daniel Riley, was reportedly free on bond though officials were aware of multiple violations of his bond terms.

The AG’s office claims that Gardner was negligent in her duties and therefore filed a petition quo warrantor, a legal mechanism that allows the attorney general to remove a prosecutor for cause.

    1. Don’t forget that Dr. Birx and Mathew Pottinger in the Trump White House were the primary pushers of social distancing, lock-downs, the stopping of social gatherings, school closings and masking in early to mid 2020. They did this without ANY data of substance. They did this based on what they saw as successes in China. They never questioned that the CCP was feeding them (and us) propaganda – not hard data. That they didn’t question – is more than a little suspect. Then they made stuff up – like six feet for social distancing. Most of us figured out within a few months that this was all based on vaporware data, but HHS – the CDC, FDA, NIH/NIAID… whelp, they never did.

Substituting “hope” for science in regards to public health policy is no way to run a country, let alone a nation. Let’s just “try it” is not an answer to a public health crisis.”

  9. A Short History of Banana Bread – King Arthur Flour traces Banana Bread through the decades.

“The most searched-for bread recipe online isn’t white sandwich bread. It’s not whole wheat bread, or baguettes or no-knead bread or even anything with yeast in it. No, the most sought-after bread recipe across America is (drum roll, please): banana bread.

Bananas aren’t native to most of North America, and were only sparingly available in the U.S. throughout the 1800s. Ship captains had difficulty solving the puzzle of how to successfully transport a fruit that ripened (and rotted) so quickly.

But the advent of refrigeration at the turn of the 20th century soon made bananas accessible to American households nationwide, where they quickly became a breakfast staple. Bananas were also used in desserts, though more often as a garnish atop cake or pudding than a main ingredient.

Then, in the 1930s, two events converged that elevated the banana from bit player to star.

First, the Great Depression, which began with the 1929 stock market crash and lasted throughout much of the 1930s, made every scrap of food precious. Households were unwilling to throw away anything — even a “rotten” banana.

And second, Royal and other baking powder/baking soda manufacturers began mass producing their products, making these chemical leaveners widely available nationwide for the first time.

Thus the desire to use overripe bananas, paired with the ready availability of baking powder, inspired a horde of enterprising cookbook writers to come up with recipes for banana “quick bread” (as opposed to yeast bread).”

The United States plans to announce $250 million in aid on Friday to shore up Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in the face of Russian attacks and $300 million for Moldova, partly to help Chisinau wean itself from energy dependence on Russia.

The aid, described in draft documents seen by Reuters, is expected to be announced by U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator Samantha Power on the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The $300 million for Moldova includes $80 million in budget support to offset high electricity prices, $135 million for electric power generation projects and $85 million to improve its ability to obtain energy supplies from alternative sources, according to a second draft document.

He won’t send me Flonase, tho, until the doctor sees me. Progress, my friends – progress!!! I have to give the guy credit – he did not interrupt me even once! 1. My Mom makes crispy, golden, yummy fried chicken – she uses butter-flavored Crisco. Dips it in buttermilk, then coats with flour before frying in a deep-dish skillet – electric these days but she used to use cast iron. As for the cooking of it – that’s better left to others to explain – way beyond my abilities – but her chicken is never overly greasy.

        2. The buttermilk soak is important. Some ladies soaked their chicken overnight in the refrigerator with salt, pepper and lemon juice for seasoning.

Mama said you have to salt and pepper chicken ’til you’re plum ashamed of yourself!

The skillet has to be deep enough for the fat to float and almost cover the chicken. And it has to be hot enough to seal the meat and juice inside and brown it pretty fast, but slow enough for the thickest meat to get done through and through.

An iron skillet – seasoned until it’s slick and black – is vital – especially for cornbread.

I used a deeper one for chicken than cornbread – more like a dutch oven, so the fat wouldn’t splash and splatter out.

          Here’s one already seasoned

  17. “Wag the Dog” — Ukraine Trans Edition — A dispatch from the “front line” of Ukraine.
    Jordan Schachtel

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “An American man in a wig pretending to be a woman, who also served as a former (and possibly a current) federal informant, who now claims the status of a “front line” Ukrainian soldier, has been making the rounds in the corporate media ginning up support for the Ukraine money pit operation.

In an interview with CBS News that now has 361 thousand views on Twitter, “Sarah” Ashton-Cirillo, who is described as a woman, but was previously known as Michael John Cirillo, transmitted a defiant dispatch from the apparent front lines of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Before heading to Ukraine, Ashton-Cirillo, who is also a left wing activist, had worked with the FBI in sting operations against Republican candidates for political office.

    (Before/After)

In the interview, Ashton, wearing a gigantic band aid on his face, says he lost part of his hand in an attack. The camera then pans to Ashton’s hand in a sling, with a Ukrainian flag wrapped around it. The CBS team claims that Ashton is joining the morning show “from the trenches” of the front line, despite zero evidence showcasing this

In an earlier social media post Ashton-Cirillo claimed he “was hit” and has “permanent” injuries. In the video, he tells someone nearby, “yeah I’m fine,” before proclaiming that “victory is ours because we are Ukraine.”

After being “evacuated” from the front lines, he posted an appeal for PayPal donations.

On the real front lines of the conflict, Ukraine and Russia are engaged in brutal trench warfare, with both sides losing a reported thousands of soldiers on a weekly basis. There is an incredibly short lifespan for service members on the front lines, where artillery fire and other forms of heavy munitions are constantly being launched back and forth. How exactly Ashton-Cirillo had the time or the resources to FaceTime with the CBS anchor from the “front line” remains unknown.

Wag The Dog – Trans Edition is just the latest in a series of continually absurd pieces of pro-Kiev agitprop that have been on display for the entirety of the war. And Ashton is far from the only U.S.-based media person who is tied to the intelligence community to become a propagandist for this war.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is readying another $10 billion for Ukraine, with this latest disbursement allocated for Kiev’s notoriously corrupt bureaucrats. Since last year, the United States taxpayer has been looted to the tune of well over $100 billion dollars to support the Ukraine operation.

But don’t worry, fellow American citizens, the transgender “front line” soldier who is totally not a fed is making the rounds on television to assure you that victory is right around the corner. Just “send Ukraine what it needs,” like fighter jets, modern tanks, and hundreds of billions of additional taxpayer dollars, and Russia will be defeated!”

I doubt @BradPaisley will be in the studio now working on one for the people of East Palestine anytime soon. Artists used to write songs against the government narrative….now they write them on behalf of them. Incredible. #EastPalestineOH

Sixth-grade language teacher Ethan Hooper has been suspended from Howard Middle school in Orlando, Florida after parents discovered multiple TikTok videos in which the teacher had his students perform as “political props.”

One video, flagged for the public by Libs of TikTok featured white students fanning, feeding, and bowing down to their Black classmates, as a celebration of Black History Month,

Another video, meant to criticize Florida Gov. Ron Desantis’ Stop WOKE Act, featured Hooper dramatically walking around his classroom taking books from children, and declaring that books about black history were not allowed.

Orange County Public Schools superintendent said he was “appalled” by the teacher’s use of his own students as “political props” for social media, reports the New York Post.

“I am appalled at the behavior and judgment of the teacher who posted the inappropriate videos using his students as political props,” Maria Vazquez.“

  20. “The new communism is coming, complete with a diet of worms. The new communism will not only mean the end of our freedoms, property, and liberties, it will also have us eating worms in a “brave new world” akin to a gulag, writes Polish political commentator and columnist Stanisław Janecki”

(A growing number of “entrepreneurs” are trying to persuade consumers that insects are the next super food, a nutritious, low-cost, environmentally friendly source of protein that can help feed a hungry world. But they face a tough job convincing Westerners that crickets, meal worms, and caterpillars can be tasty treats. (AP Photo/Ben Margot)

ENTIRE ARTICLE @ ReMix: “It is now clear what kind of new world is being prepared for us, and it will happen much sooner than we think. Great shifts can often happen suddenly, just look at the Bolshevik revolution, Nazi Germany, Mao’s cultural revolution, or the Pol Pot regime in Cambodia.

Every “brave new world” consists of constraining freedoms, soon followed by a transformation of meanings, values, principles, the hierarchy of prestige, a questioning of traditions and customs, and social engineering. The world must be turned upside down. The old history is to be trashed and traditional modes of social organization are to be expunged. The individual is to feel powerless and swept along with the inevitable change taking place.

Take the case of worms. You disliked them and felt revulsion toward them in your old society and culture, so you will be made to eat them. You believe in a world of men and women based on clear biological differences that are recognized in society, religion, culture, the legal system, and ideologies? We will turn that upside down and give people the right to decide what they are, even kids. Have you gotten used to many forms of mobility? Forget that, new norms will be introduced so that no one will want to or be able to afford to use a car. Soon we will decide what you eat and what kind of services you may enjoy.

The Chinese Social Credits System (SCS) is the dream of the creators of the “brave new world.” Here, everyone is under surveillance and graded, and those who don’t meet the standards are denied access to many civic rights as well as goods and services. Such a system gives power over the individual and forces him to be compliant or else he will be excluded or made into an enemy to be eliminated.

The new communist oppression is to be inescapable, as it will consist of close cooperation of states and big corporations. States will have slaves rather than citizens, and corporations will get cheap compliant labor and consumers. Instead of utopian equality, this will in fact return us to feudalism and a caste system.

The legal community is already ready for the new communism — The judiciary especially will be a key component of the oppression, and it will keep both individuals and states in check. The European Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights are well prepared for such a role.

But it’s not enough to recognize this or warn against it. This must be strangled at birth by a great rebellion and civil disobedience before it takes on institutional forms that will later be hard to break down. There must be no illusions that this form of communism will be tolerable. It will only be agreeable to those who are its functionaries.

It is a big danger that will turn the world into one huge gulag, all in the name of human progress, of course.”

Bloomberg writes that Russia has frozen Western assets in its possession to the tune of $150 billion.

Many investors are afraid to say they have investments in Russia, making it difficult to calculate the exact amount.

Global financial giants like JPMorgan, Black Rock, etc. are among those “affected”.

Wes Allen Finds Vacant Virtual Office at ERIC Address | Alabama Secretary of State

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On February 15, 2023, Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen made an unannounced visit to the published address of the headquarters of the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) at 1201 Connecticut Ave NW Ste 600 in Washington, DC. Upon arriving at the address, Allen found that the location was actually the home of a virtual shared workspace and that no ERIC headquarters existed at the location.

“I was in DC for a meeting of the National Association of Secretaries of States and, since I was in town, I went to see the ERIC Headquarters,” Allen explained. “What I found was that there was no ERIC headquarters at that address. There were no employees. There were no servers. There was no ERIC presence of any kind. Instead, I found a virtual office that is rentable by the day. What it was missing was people, servers and any sign of the ERIC team.”

Despite publishing the Connecticut Avenue address as its official address on its website, the location is actually operated by Expansive, a company that offers virtual workspaces across the country and rents space by the day.

“Before I took office, Alabama transmitted the personal information of millions of our citizens to this private organization for the past several years. That information is stored on a server somewhere but we do not know where. There is no ERIC operation at the location they claim is their office,” Allen said. “A lot of personal data and taxpayer money has been transferred to ERIC. Where is that data? Where are the employees? Where are the offices? Where are the computers?”

Allen served in the Alabama House of Representatives and as the Probate Judge of Pike County prior to being elected Secretary of State. Election security has always been a priority, both as the senior elections official in Pike County and as a legislator. Since taking office, he has been meeting with state agencies to establish methods for ensuring that Alabama’s voter lists are clean and accurate.

Allen was elected as Alabama’s 54th Secretary of State in November and was inaugurated in January. Withdrawing Alabama from ERIC was Allen’s first act as Secretary of State. The official withdrawal process takes 90 days, meaning Alabama will be officially withdrawn by mid-April. Allen has ceased transmitting any data from Alabama to ERIC.
