The very first U.S. one-cent coin debuted in 1787, before the U.S. Mint was formed.
This coin was called a Fugio cent, and it served as the first official circulation coin of the United States.
Ben Franklin designed the coin.
The only year the Fugio cent appeared in circulation was in 1787.
In 1793, the U.S. Mint introduced the large cent.
These early pennies were huge… practically the size of a half dollar!
Large cents were in circulation until 1857, and there were several designs throughout the years.
In 1856, the U.S. Mint introduced the small cent.
The small cent coin was the first U.S. penny made in a size that is similar to the pennies of today.
The Flying Eagle design was the first to appear on a small cent.
In the United States, the one-cent coin is not officially called a penny.
Even though most of us refer to the U.S. one-cent coin as a “penny,” the coin is technically called a “cent” in the United States.
Yep, the U.S. Mint officially named the coin a “cent.” And the U.S. Treasury officially called it a “one cent piece.”
It was during the Colonial period (when people used a mixture of coins from other countries) that a coin known as the British penny became popular. It was in 1857 that Congress asked the U.S. Mint to make the one-cent coin smaller.
The penny is not the lowest face value coin ever produced in the U.S.
From 1793 to 1857, the U.S. produced half cents. These coins are quite scarce today!

Other coins with denominations the U.S. used to make that we haven’t used in many years include:
the 2-cent piece
the 3-cent piece
the half-dime

Abe Lincoln was the first real person to have their face appear on a U.S. coin.
His face appeared for the very first time when the penny was redesigned in 1909.
The 1909 Lincoln penny also marks the first time that a U.S. president appeared on a U.S. coin.
Lincoln’s face is the only one on a U.S. coin that looks to the right.
All other portraits of people on U.S. coins face to the left.
Some U.S. pennies stick to a magnet, while others do not.
The 1943 steel penny does stick to a magnet. (More than 1 billion of these coins were made.)
The few 1943 copper penny error coins that were made don’t stick to a magnet. (Approximately 40 were made and only 27 are known to exist.)
Some 1944 pennies were accidentally made from steel, and these do stick to a magnet. (Only 30 or so exist today.)
/US0001-Lincoln-Wheat-1943-D-D-56848c943df78ccc15d53952.jpg)
The most valuable U.S. penny is a 1943 cent that’s worth $1.7 million.
Of all the modern-era pennies (those made since the introduction of small cents in 1856), the 1943-D copper Lincoln penny is the one with the highest value. It was accidentally made on a copper planchet that was intended for 1942 pennies — instead of being made on the steel blanks used for 1943 pennies. Only one of them exists!
Copper pennies from 1944 to 1946 were made of shell casings.
The public didn’t much like the 1943 steel pennies. They were often mistaken for dimes, they rusted pretty quickly, and they just didn’t look like the copper pennies everyone knew.
In 1944 the U.S. Mint began striking pennies from copper blanks made from reclaimed ammunition shell casings. They continued doing so through 1946. They look virtually identical to regular copper pennies.
The odds of finding a wheat penny today are about 1:200.

You would need to search through approximately 200 pennies in your pocket change and/or in coin rolls from the bank to find at least one Lincoln wheat cent.
In the case of these mid-1960s pennies, you can’t tell a Philadelphia penny from a Denver penny from a San Francisco penny. If you come across 1965, 1966, or 1967 pennies with no mint mark, that’s totally normal.
The 1974 silver penny is actually made of aluminum.
More than 1.58 million of the 1974 aluminum pennies were struck — merely as a test. At the time, the U.S. Mint was experimenting with different materials to reduce the cost of making pennies.
There were no 1974 aluminum Lincoln cents released into circulation, as the 1974 aluminum penny was immediately recalled for melting.
The majority of them were destroyed — including hundreds that were given to members of Congress and other officials.
However, not all of the coins were returned. There is a small number of unaccounted 1974 aluminum pennies that are still out there today!
It is illegal to own a 1974 aluminum penny.
1974 aluminum Lincoln cents are considered government property. They are, therefore, illegal to own.
Some 1992 pennies have the wrong design.
The U.S. Mint was in the process of reducing the spacing between the letters “A” and “M” in “AMERICA” for circulating 1993 pennies. But somehow a few 1992 and 1992-D Close AM pennies were struck and released by accident.
These rare pennies show virtually no gap between the bases of the letters “A” and “M.” These extremely rare 1992 pennies are worth thousands of dollars.
Most Lincoln Memorial pennies are pretty common (especially in circulated condition), and they are easily found in pocket change these days.
National One Cent Day occurs every year on April 1st.
Approximately $62 million worth of pennies are lost in circulation each year.
That’s a lot of pennies removed from circulation!
How are they “lost?”
They’re either dropped on the ground (while paying for items at outdoor events or drive-thru windows), tossed (into fountains, trash, or the ground), lost (in sofa cushions, car seats, etc), or saved (in coin collections, piggy banks, and coin jars).

It is illegal to melt U.S. pennies.
It is currently illegal in the United States to melt pennies. Anyone who melts pennies to profit from the metal could serve up to 5 years in prison and pay as much as $10,000 in fines.
By the way, it’s also illegal to export U.S. coins for the purpose of melting them.
However, if legislation should pass to end production of the one-cent coin, it would likely become legal to melt pennies in the United States after that.
Travelers may legally carry up to $5 in pennies out of the United States.
You shouldn’t clean your pennies, but if you must… here’s how.
If you really want to clean your dirty pennies, the best way is to use this 2-step method:
First, smear ketchup on the penny. Then, take a toothbrush and lightly scrub the penny — working the ketchup into all of the fine areas, and rinse the penny under warm water. Most likely, your penny will look dull and have a pinkish color at this point.

Second, combine baking soda and a little bit of water — to form a paste. Rub this mixture all over the penny with your fingers. Doing so should bring the shine back to it! (You could also dunk your penny in bowl containing 1 part baking soda and 4 parts vinegar — instead of making the baking soda paste.)
This 2-step cleaning method can strip away dirt and grime from coins — and it works especially well on pennies.
However, it completely strips away the coin’s original patina, making it a worthless coin in the eye of collectors!
It costs 2.06 cents to make each U.S. penny.
So, for every penny the U.S. Mint makes… we, the taxpayers, effectively lose one cent!

obummer’s fingerprints are on the biolabs in ukraine…
entire article
A notorious Ukraine biolab revealed that it received funding from the “SOROS Foundation” in a company document obtained by NATIONAL FILE. The Mechnikov Anti-Plague Research Institute in Odessa, Ukraine is located at the spot of an old secretive Soviet biological weapons plant. The Institute is now under the banner of the Ukraine Ministry of Health. Then-senator Barack Obama also announced a deal in 2005 to fund the Institute, according to records. The Institute handles deadly microbes and also works on developing vaccines, and it has sparked concern that it could be used to supply bioterrorism in the region.
The “Ukrainian I.I. Mechnikov Anti-Plague Research Institute in Odessa, Ukraine (MINISTRY OF HEALTH)” reported “SOROS Foundation” funding, with “SOROS” in capital letters. The document is marked as having been produced by the Institute, with Institute staff listed as contacts. THE DOCUMENT IS PRESERVED HERE (CLICK TO SEE THE DOCUMENT).

“The Minsk Agreements Tried to Create Peace Between Ukraine and Russia. Zelensky Said He Never Planned to Honor Them. The Ukrainian president also accused the West of being insufficiently supportive of Ukraine, despite billions of dollars in aid committed before and after Russia invaded last year.”
Pedro L. Gonzalez
EXCERPT: “The Alley of Angels is a memorial nestled amid trees and winding gray stone walkways in Donetsk. Visitors are greeted by an arch that features roses forged from fragments of mines and grenades interwoven with ammunition casings, representing some of the weapons that have taken the lives of children during the Donbas War in the eastern part of Ukraine.
The site was built in 2015, the year after a color revolution fomented regime change in the country, triggering clashes between government forces and separatists in the Donbas who declared independence from Kiev. It was the proxy war before the proxy war, with U.S.-backed troops battling Russian-backed forces. Fighting there had already killed at least 14,000 people before President Vladimir Putin took Russia across the Rubicon last February.
There were efforts to establish a ceasefire and, ultimately, peace in 2014 and 2015. These were the Minsk agreements, mediated with help from Germany and France. But in an interview with Der Spiegel published on Feb. 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he never planned to honor the accords, although he was elected president on the promise of ending the Donbas War. He also accused the West of being insufficiently supportive of Ukraine, despite billions of dollars in aid and matériel committed before and after Russia invaded last year.
Until now, the Western narrative around the Minsk accords placed their failure entirely on the shoulders of Russia. But Zelensky’s admission that he did not intend to make the agreements work complicates that telling. This revelation follows two reports that have also undermined the story the public has been sold about the war in Ukraine.
First, according to investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, the U.S. government destroyed the Nord Stream pipelines. Second, former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said the U.S.-led West killed a Russia-Ukraine peace deal last March, just after the war began. Now, Zelensky has said that he wrote off the Minsk agreements because “they wanted to appease Russia’s appetite a little at the expense of Ukraine.”
No doubt that line elicited clapping from the trained seals of liberal internationalism. But the implications of it are problematic for the narrators of Western moral superiority because there are only a few conclusions to be drawn, none good. As The Washington Post reported on Feb. 23, 2022, France and Germany, in particular, “pressed for implementation” of the “Minsk peace accords as the best chance for a diplomatic solution” in a last-ditch effort to avoid war. Zelensky has suggested he deliberately sabotaged that effort. But why?
On the one hand, it’s possible Zelensky simply lied to Der Spiegel to save face after Bennett’s revelations humiliated him. Among other things, Bennett said Zelensky was deeply worried about Putin killing him and that after the Russian president promised to spare him for the sake of diplomacy, Zelensky became more confident about appearing in public. The interview with Der Spiegel immediately followed Bennett disclosing that information, which Zelensky dismissed as “funny.”

Putin should now admit HE lied…and killing zelensky is back on the table. see if THAT brings the smug s.o.b. BACK to the peace table.

“On the other hand, it’s possible Zelensky really didn’t want to make the Minsk agreements work, perhaps to lure the Kremlin into an attack that he hoped would provoke direct action from the West. Interestingly enough, Oleksiy Arestovych, now-former advisor to Zelensky’s chief of staff, said in 2019 that “a big war with Russia and joining NATO on the basis of victory over Russia” was his preferred path forward. It is also worth noting former German Chancellor Angela Merkel told Die Zeit in December that the “2014 Minsk agreement was an attempt to give Ukraine time.”

“American Public Schools, RIP”
BY JEFFREY A. TUCKER FEBRUARY 11, 2023 EDUCATION 8 MINUTE READ
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Many of the bizarre features of the pandemic response can be explained by industrial self-interest, graft, power lust, confusion, and so on. One feature does not have such an obvious explanation: the closure of public schools in some places for as long as two years. The extremely low-to-minimal risk to the kids was known from very early on. They could have stayed in school the entire time as they did in Sweden. Scared older teachers – realistically at very low risk – might have found substitutes. There were surely other workarounds besides utterly smashing education.
What civilized society does this? None. It appears that school closures were just part of the mix of the panicked response. “Indoor and outdoor venues where groups of people congregate should be closed” said Trump’s sweeping and astonishing edict of March 16, 2020, and that included schools. Period.
What happened to the kids? They stayed at home and parents left work to oversee them. They pretended to learn as they were able but enrollment in the school system collapsed by 1.2 million nationwide. Some 26 percent declared themselves to be homeschooled. Private-school enrollment also grew by 4 percent, though it was limited by capacity restrictions, shortages of offerings, and the sheer expense (not everyone can afford to pay both taxes and tuition for school).
But here is what is extremely strange. According to the Wall Street Journal, “an analysis of enrollment data conducted by Stanford University in collaboration with the Associated Press found that there were no records last school year for more than 240,000 school-age children living in 21 states and the District of Columbia, which provided recent enrollment details.”
How is this possible? “There’s this chunk that we just can’t explain,” said study author Professor Thomas S. Dee. The most likely explanation is rather obvious. Some parents might have picked up and moved out of the country. Many changed states of residency and just never got around to re-enrolling. Others just decided to drop out and not notify the school district, as they are supposed to else be declared truant. But after the utter chaos of the lockdown period, and the demand that if kids come back they have to be masked and even vaccinated, hundreds of thousands of families just decided to say: forget it. They don’t even trust the system enough to file a paper with the school district.
How incredible: homeschooling until relatively recently existed in most places under a legal cloud and was widely put down by elite commentators, even as homeschool kids have so clearly outperformed everyone else in test scores and later achievements. And yet, nearly overnight, what was previously considered outlier behavior suddenly became the norm if not the mandate. I simply cannot believe that anyone planned for this to happen. What’s not clear is how the heck all of this was permitted to happen at all.
It seems the least likely turn of events in the whole of American politics and culture. The American public school system was the first and most celebrated achievement of the Progressives in history. They came along and grew throughout the 1880s and were deployed as a measure to acculturate immigrants. The move to make school compulsory came about in the 1920s. The deal was completed in 1936 when government outlawed most jobs for kids under the age of 16.
The institutionalization of public schooling as a norm was completed by World War II. It was heavily funded and heavily enforced, and remained the pride-and-joy of social reformers ever since. After that period of time, the plan for American kids was in place. Their job was to sit at a desk for 12-14 years. That’s all.
To be sure, there are some odd features of American public schooling that make it different from Commonwealth countries and other European states. The funding is mostly locally provided even today and drawn from property taxes. Therefore, enrollment is enforced on a geographic basis with tight school districts. The value and quality of the education one gets in schools is, in turn, reflected in home valuations. So, in effect, parents are paying tuition but not directly to the school but to the school district via property taxes. Funding for schools is allocated by enrollment numbers. If the students aren’t there, the funding dries up. This is creating a genuine crisis for schools around the country.
In addition, in vast numbers of American schools, the publicly funded part only pays for the basics. If your kid is in sports, music, or some other club, that is funded by parents and their “booster clubs.” It is surprising just how much of what people consider the “high quality” part of American public schooling is in fact funded by a “pay-to-play” scheme.
When the closures were ordered, all of this was shut down. But the taxes that paid for the education still had to be paid of course! And the money for booster clubs just sat in the bank as arts, sports, and other activities were flat-out banned. Once they reopened, everything had obviously changed. The schools are in shambles and nowhere near normal. Most districts report extreme shortages of teachers simply because so many just refused to go back.
In addition, among those who remain:
80% of educators indicate that burnout is a serious problem.
55% of educators now indicate that they are ready to leave the profession earlier than planned.
76% of educators feel student behavioral issues are a serious problem.
Only 10% of educators would strongly recommend the profession to a young adult.
Only 30% of teachers are satisfied with their current position.
65% of educators agree the bureaucracy interferes with teaching.
78% of teachers feel symptoms of stress and depression.
In addition, half of American school kids are a full year behind in educational goals, a fact which proves that remote education, especially during a political panic, was a tremendous flop.
All of which is to say that the shutdowns have pretty well wrecked what was already a very fragile system. Let’s presume that no one at the top really intended to smash what was left of the American public school system. Proposition: all of this came about, and the closures perpetuated as long as they did, because the system was already on the verge of collapsing.
Consider the decades of curriculum reforms that teachers face again and again. New books, new methods, new theories, new strategies, all hatched by “educational professionals” who are not in the classrooms and then enacted by politicians seeming to “do something” about the problem. These waves of reforms piled on top of each other and finally collapsed into a mechanized and industrialized classroom entirely devoted to teaching to the test, thus wiping out volition on the part of both teachers and students.
Behavioral problems, too often addressed not through discipline but prescription drugs, are the result of extreme boredom and the growing refusal to sort students by aptitude. Everyone is just shoved into rooms, told what to learn, shuffled from year to year in the same pattern, move from subject to subject, regardless of interest or achievement, even as the curriculum has become alienated ever more from what the bourgeois once saw as being a quality education.
It’s tragic to say but when the schools closed, it appears that there were vast numbers of stakeholders from teachers to administrators to students who quite simply breathed a sigh of relief: finally! When the pressure mounted to bring them back – parents needed a place to plant the kids so they could get back to work – the teachers’ unions decided to use the push to make more demands for salaries and benefits.
Once parents got kids home and began to examine what they were actually being taught, school boards faced an amazing explosion of outrage. Thus began the populist uprising against Critical Race Theory. The mask mandates and then vaccine mandates only exacerbated the problem.
The point is that none of this would have happened had the schools been healthy and functioning. The lockdowns were the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. A dysfunctional system finally fell apart. That’s where we are today, and the replacement that is emerging is not something that comes from someone’s idea of “reform.” We’ve had more than enough of that. What’s emerging is spontaneous, cobbled together, partially the result of noncompliance, but in keeping with the always passionate desire on the part of parents that their children are well-educated.
Homeschooling has become completely normal, and I personally know many businesspeople who are looking to start whole franchises of private schools with a greater emphasis on classical methods and content. Various religions are fully engaged to provide their own educational systems apart from the public ones, and on a more extensive basis than ever.
It might not be obvious right now but in a few years, we could all look back and observe that March 2020 marked the beginning of the end of the great Progressive experiment in public education. Something else is emerging now. This is not a story that any responsible person would have scripted but the end result, and despite all the carnage along the way, might be a better overall system for the next generation of students, parents, and teachers.”

A Montana congressman said on Saturday night that he had been told an unidentified object was spotted over his district, forcing the temporary closure of airspace – and the search for it would resume at daylight.
Matt Rosendale, a Republican elected in 2020, said he had been briefed by the Department of Defense, while he was at a Lincoln Reagan dinner.
Fighter jets were scrambled and airspace above Havre, a town of 10,000 people, 30 miles south of the Canadian border, was shut at 7:50pm before being reopened about 50 minutes later.
‘I’m at an event, a Lincoln Reagan dinner in Columbus, Montana right now,’ Rosendale told Fox News.
‘And DOD called me as I have been sitting here and started giving me briefings to tell me what was going on.
‘I clarified with them that this is actually the fourth balloon, OK.’
Rosendale continued: ‘The first we shot down over the Atlantic. One was shot down before it entered into Alaska’s airspace. A third was shot down, Trudeau ordered over Canada. So now we’re talking about a fourth incident.’

“Rep. Lauren Boebert introduces act to require DOJ to report all social media company payments.
The bill has been backed by fellow Republicans.”
By Cindy Harper
Posted 1:04 pm
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) introduced the Exposing Lewd Outlays for Social Networking Companies (ELON) Act, which would require the Department of Justice (DOJ) to report the money sent to social media companies. ELON Act would require the DOJ to submit to Congress all payments made to social media companies since January 1, 2015. She added that the bill would also require “a report from all agencies on federal dollars sent to big tech companies” and place a one-year hold on additional spending.
We obtained a copy of the bill for you here.
Boebert’s bill follows recent revelations that the FBI was paying Twitter the administration costs of processing its requests and for other matters. “Big Tech is in bed with the FBI and other agencies to the point where Congress can’t tell where one ends and the other begins,” Boebert said, speaking to Fox News. “The millions of dollars sent to Twitter that we know of during an election year when they were at the same time censoring the Hunter Biden laptop from hell, is incredibly concerning.”
“We must expose the incestuous relationship between Big Tech and the federal government,” Boebert said. “My bill does exactly that.”
The bill already has several Republican co-sponsors, including Florida’s Anna Paulina Luna and Matt Gaetz, Arizona’s Paul Gosar, Troy Nehls from Texas, Eric Burlison from Missouri, and Indiana’s Mary Miller.”

what the hell? a 10yr old commits a carjacking (aided by other teenagers) and is released THE NEXT DAY? There was a GUN involved…
entire story
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis woman described one of the scariest moments of her life after she says she was carjacked at gunpoint by a 10-year-old boy and others.
The victim says she was carjacked by four kids who stole her 2012 Infiniti on Pearce Street in North Memphis on the morning of Dec. 10.
“He put the gun between my eyes and told me, ‘look me in my eyes’, with the gun, and told me to get out the car,” she said. “It was scary, but I got sense, baby. I slid out that car like Jello. I told him to be careful,” the woman said.

Weeks later, her vehicle was recovered, and the suspects were arrested. The youngest suspect was 10, she said; a police report described the suspects as juveniles.
But the victim said her joy was short-lived after learning the boy was released from custody.
“You mean to tell me that children can actually go, and carjack people and you release them immediately?” the woman said.

WREG reached out to the Shelby County Juvenile Court judge and a spokesperson told us how long suspects stay behind bars is determined on a case-by-case basis It primarily depends on the statute surrounding the offense.
Meanwhile, as the number of victims impacted by crime increases, the calls for change will continue.
