What Shall We Bake Today?

Today is National Carrot Cake Day, so let’s make one of those.  I have tried many recipes—some use jars of carrot baby food, some used pineapple and coconut, but this is my favorite.  I’ve included the recipe for cream cheese frosting even though I personally despise it.  (I just use my regular frosting for this cake.)

Cake

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

1 cup vegetable oil

3 eggs

2 cups Gold Medal™ All-Purpose Flour

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 cups shredded carrots (5 medium)

1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

Cream Cheese Frosting

1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened

2 to 3 teaspoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

4 cups powdered sugar

Nutmeg, if desired

Steps

Heat oven to 350°F. Grease bottom and sides of one 13×9-inch pan or two 8-inch or 9-inch round pans with shortening; lightly flour. In large bowl, beat granulated sugar, oil and eggs with electric mixer on low speed about 30 seconds or until blended. Add flour, cinnamon, baking soda, 1 teaspoon vanilla and the salt; beat on low speed 1 minute. Stir in carrots and nuts. Pour into pan(s).

Bake 13×9-inch pan 40 to 45 minutes, round pans 30 to 35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool rectangle in pan on cooling rack. Cool rounds 10 minutes; remove from pans to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 1 hour.

In medium bowl, beat cream cheese, butter, milk and vanilla with electric mixer on low speed until smooth. Gradually beat in powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, on low speed until smooth and spreadable. Frost 13×9-inch cake or fill and frost round layers with frosting. Sprinkle nutmeg on frosted cake, if desired. Store in refrigerator.

ENJOY!

“Witness Forced to Walk Back Accusations That Led Maine Medical Board to Suspend Dr. Meryl Nass’ License”

EXCERPT: “The Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine on Tuesday held its third hearing on the suspension of Dr. Meryl Nass related to her treatment recommendations for patients with COVID-19. As it did on day two of the hearings, held on Oct. 27, 2022, the board focused on Nass’ alleged “sloppy” record-keeping for three patients she treated and on her prescribing of ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine for those patients.

The board suspended Nass, a member of the Children’s Health Defense scientific advisory board, on Jan. 12, 2022, without a hearing. The board initially accused Nass of “unprofessional” and “disruptive” behavior, spreading “misinformation” and prescribing hydroxychloroquine and a “deworming medication” (ivermectin) to patients. However, the board withdrew the accusations of “misinformation” on Sept. 26, 2022, just prior to her first hearing date, Oct. 11, 2022.

The board’s case now rests on Nass’ alleged non-adherence to the medical “standard of care” as it pertained to ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine for treating COVID-19 and on the alleged “record-keeping” issues. Two witnesses hired by the board — Dr. Thomas Courtney of the Maine Medical Center and Dr. Jeremy Samuel Faust, an emergency physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Massachusetts and instructor at Harvard Medical School — testified during Tuesday’s proceedings, and Nass’ attorney, Gene Libby, cross-examined Courtney.

Cross-examination pokes holes in ‘expert witness’ testimony — Throughout his testimony, Courtney repeated his assertion that Nass did not follow an adequate standard of care in prescribing ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine to three patients, alleged improprieties in her communication and remote (telemedicine) consultations with the patients, and claimed Nass’ record-keeping was lacking.

But Courtney was obliged to walk back significant portions of his earlier testimony under his cross-examination by Libby. For instance, Courtney claimed Nass did not adhere to an appropriate standard of care because she failed to advise two of her patients who didn’t recover as expected to seek care at an emergency room.

But under cross-examination, he acknowledged Nass had, in fact, advised the patients to go to the ER. Courtney also criticized Nass for not prescribing monoclonal antibodies to her patients, one of whom was pregnant.

However, when cross-examined, Courtney admitted that, unlike hydroxychloroquine, monoclonal antibodies were not recommended for pregnant women and most monoclonal antibodies available at the time Nass was advising her patients were known to be ineffective against the Omicron variant of COVID-19, the dominant strain of the virus at that time.

Libby pointed out that the pregnant patient fully recovered eight days after the onset of her illness and had a normal birth, during which she was administered hydroxychloroquine and monoclonal antibodies.”

Oh, I see. Team Ron paid the Babylon Bee to run a sarcasm piece about Trump accusing Ron of doing what Mike Pence, Fauci, and Birx did thus smearing Trump and leaving out the whole Cabal that purposely mislead PDJT. Trump has the mentality of a CEO who hires and fires people based upon their performances. He, at the time, believed that everyone was performing their jobs to protect the people of this country. If you fail, then the CEO fires you. Ha ha. Little did he know that these demons do not get fired, demoted, and shunned for failure.

Really, who would have believed 3 years ago that there were people installed in our government, media, medicine, hospital, science, and security industries who were more than willing to kill innocent people just to get rid of the Bad Orange Man?

Shame on the Bee for doing this story.

  10. what the heck???chinese linked companies buying military academies????
    FTA
Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) is sounding the alarm about an unsettling trend of companies with close ties to the Chinese Communist Party buying up U.S. military academies, including the one attended by Donald Trump when he was a teenager.

In a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Waltz requested that the Department of Defense survey all Army, Navy, and Air Force JROTC programs held in private schools across the country to determine “whether those schools are owned by a subsidiary of a foreign company, and the name of the subsidiary and foreign company.” Waltz’s request stems from a concern that these military school acquisitions are part of China’s “Belt & Road Initiative” to assert its influence in the United States education system.

In a press release, Waltz stated:

“It’s incredibly concerning that there are American private schools owned by companies with strong ties to the Chinese Communist Party. From Florida to New York, there is clear evidence that the ownership of these schools are linked to our greatest adversary and it’s ridiculous that we are developing potential future military leaders through JROTC programs where the CCP could be shaping school curriculum and activities.”

Waltz cites two examples in his letter to Austin. The first is Florida Preparatory Academy, which is located on the state’s Space Coast and houses an Air Force ROTC program. It was purchased in 2017 by Newopen USA, a subsidiary of Newopen Group, a China-based company that on its LinkedIn page describes itself as “the most influential and valuable education group in China” and states it “manages 2 universities, 5 middle schools, 2 affiliated primary schools, 31 kindergartens.”

The other example cited in the letter is the New York Military Academy, which runs an Army JROTC program and is located a mere 6 miles away from West Point. Founded in 1889 by a Civil War veteran, the school was purchased in 2015 by the Research Center on Natural Conservation, funded by Fang Holdings Ltd and controlled by Mo Tianquan. Waltz’s letter notes, “In 2013, Mo Tianquan, was a delegate to the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, a political advisory body convened by the CCP as part of its broader United Front work.” Famous alumni of the New York Military Academy include Donald Trump, Francis Ford Coppola, and Stephen Sondheim.

From Florida to New York, there’s clear evidence the Chinese Communist Party’s buying up private schools just like our farmland.

Some of the schools have JROTC programs and others are tech-focused. We must ensure our children are NOT being shaped by CCP-influenced curricula. https://t.co/yXLGTKQJ8L

    February 03, 2023
    editor: REMIX NEWS author: MANDINER

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “The Hungarian Constitutional Court (AB) ruled on Thursday that a 2022 law prohibiting name changes for transsexuals in official documents is not against the country’s fundamental law. “The fact that the State registers the individual’s sex at birth instead of or in addition to his or her self-identified sex, which corresponds to his or her gender identity, as a result of sex reassignment treatment, may be justified for several reasons,” the AB said in its ruling.

“On the one hand, an individual’s right to healthcare may require the inclusion of his or her sex at birth in civil registers as an indispensable piece of information about the individual provided to the healthcare institution, which may, for example, be necessary for the provision of appropriate healthcare,” it said.

“On the other hand, the need for the criminal authorities to know the sex of the suspect or offender may also be at the forefront of State criminal policy, just as it may be relevant in sports law or even in labor law.”

The AB added that “therefore, in the view of the Constitutional Court, the restriction of the privacy of the individual by the recording of his or her sex as data in the civil registry procedure cannot be considered either unnecessary or disproportionate. The Constitutional Court, therefore, rejected the judicial initiative.”

The Background Society, an NGO promoting LGBT rights, which brought the matter to the AB in the first place, said that the court’s ruling was based on technicalities instead of fundamental rights, and it will, therefore, bring the issue to the European Court of Human Rights.”

    U.S. · Feb 3, 2023 · BabylonBee.com

“U.S. — Americans are up in arms after a Chinese high-altitude spy balloon was seen hovering over sensitive nuclear sites in Montana. Biden was quick to quell fears, vowing to shoot down the hostile balloon as soon as he’s done letting it spy.

“Listen folks, that balloon came a long way to do a little spyin’,” said Biden in a meeting with military leaders. “Would be a shame to shoot the poor thing down before it even gets a chance to take some pictures! I remember when me and the boys used to spy on Suzie Anne McGillicutty through her bedroom window after a long day of protesting the civil rights movement. It’s all in good fun, folks!”

According to anonymous sources, several Pentagon officials asked how soon they would be able to knock the balloon out of the sky, insisting it was a matter of national security.

“Come on, man! I’ll let you shoot it down. Just let me check to make sure the Chinese have what they need and that the million-dollar check for Hunter’s painting came through from my buddy Xi. Then, have at it, boys!”

At publishing time, Eric Swalwell had been seen approaching the spy balloon and asking for its number.”

    U.S. · Feb 2, 2023 · BabylonBee.com

“PUNXSUTAWNEY, PA — Locals and Groundhog Day enthusiasts alike were caught off-guard today, as the eponymous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, emerged from his burrow and declared to the crowd gathered at Gobbler’s Knob that there was a cache of documents marked “Classified” in his underground home.

“I know you’re all here waiting to find out if I saw my shadow and if there will be six more weeks of winter and all that stuff,” Phil said, “but I thought you all might want to know that there’s a big stack of files and folders down there stamped ‘Classified’ and ‘Top Secret’ in red ink. Not sure where they came from. These are probably important, right?”

DOJ officials scrambled to retrieve the documents from Phil’s burrow as word began to spread among the assembled media that yet another hidden stash of Joe Biden’s classified documents had been discovered. The White House quickly issued a statement on the incident. “These documents do, in fact, belong to the President,” Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. “The documents were, indeed, temporarily stuffed into the burrow of one Punxsutawney Phil by an unknown person. The documents, are, however, highly classified, therefore I am not at liberty to discuss the situation any further.”

At publishing time, Punxsutawney Phil was reportedly planning to give an exclusive interview to Tucker Carlson this evening about overhearing people mentioning “the Ukraine deal” and “Hunter’s laptop” last fall as they were stuffing the documents into his burrow, but he was quickly subdued, muzzled, and forcefully escorted away by federal agents for waterboarding at an undisclosed government location.”

“WHO releases international pandemic treaty zero draft that targets “misinformation” and “disinformation” — The unelected global health agency will get new legally binding censorship powers if the treaty passes.”
    By Tom Parker
    Posted 3:30 pm

ENTIRE ARTICLE @ ReclaimTheNet: “The World Health Organization (WHO) recently released a zero draft of its international pandemic treaty which will give the unelected global health agency new powers to “tackle” anything that it deems to be “false, misleading, misinformation or disinformation” if passed. The WHO has been pushing the treaty since December 2021 and those drafting the treaty intend to present a final report to the World Health Assembly (WHA), the WHO’s decision-making body, in May 2024.

If adopted, the treaty will be legally binding under international law and the WHO’s 194 member states (which represent 98% of all the countries in the world) would be required to comply with the treaty’s demands to target misinformation. The zero draft is similar to previous versions of the treaty and the provisions related to misinformation are described in Article 17 (“Strengthening pandemic and public health literacy”). This section of the treaty calls for member states to “tackle false, misleading, misinformation or disinformation, including through promotion of international cooperation.”

It also urges member states to manage “infodemics” — a term coined by the WHO that refers to “too much information including false or misleading information in digital and physical environments during a disease outbreak.” Specifically, member states are told to manage these so-called infodemics “through effective channels, including social media.”

The scope of this treaty also extends beyond the WHO’s member base. Article 16 (“Whole-of-government and whole-of-society approaches at the national level”) urges member states to collaborate with non-state actors and the private sector as part of a “whole-of-society response in decision making, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, as well as effective feedback mechanisms.”

We obtained a copy of the zero draft of the WHO’s pandemic treaty for you here.

As with any attempt to censor content that’s deemed to be misinformation, this pandemic treaty raises questions about how these so-called authorities will decide what misinformation is. Experts are now starting to admit that many claims that were once pushed as being true by authorities, such as the claim that Covid vaccines would prevent infection, are false.

And these questions are particularly pertinent in this instance because the WHO is infamous for a misleading tweet during the early stages of the pandemic that amplified claims from Chinese authorities that there was “no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission” of the coronavirus.

The WHO released this zero draft of the international pandemic treaty during its 152nd executive board meeting which began on 30 January and will end on February 7.

The international pandemic treaty will be adopted under Article 19 of the WHO Constitution if passed. This article lets the WHA impose legally binding conventions on WHO member states with a two-thirds majority vote. Typically, elected officials vote on the laws that apply to their country, but with this WHO lawmaking process, a handful of global representatives decide the rules that apply to all countries. Regardless of whether a third of WHO member states vote against the international pandemic treaty, it will still apply to their countries under international law.

In addition to limiting politicians’ power to decide on the laws that apply to their country, this process also limits citizens’ ability to hold politicians accountable at the ballot box. WHO member state representatives are mostly unelected diplomats who remain in their positions regardless of changes in governments. And the majority of votes determining whether an international law applies to a particular country are cast by representatives from other nations.

The international pandemic treaty has the backing of many democratic countries, including the United States (US), United Kingdom (UK), Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the European Council (EC) (which represents 27 European Union (EU) member states), despite the WHO’s undemocratic lawmaking process.

The release of this zero draft international pandemic treaty comes days after the WHO said misinformation needs to be tackled. The WHO also recently shared a video stating that “anti-vaccine activism” is deadlier than “global terrorism.”

EXCERPT: “WASHINGTON — As he waged his messy campaign to become House speaker, Representative Kevin McCarthy turned to a longtime friend, Jeff Miller, to serve as a kind of field general.

Mr. Miller, his closest confidant, top fund-raiser and sometimes enforcer, hosted a pasta dinner and strategy session for the McCarthy political team at his luxury condominium in Washington. He then set up shop in the speaker’s office in the Capitol for the week of the vote, working the phones to persuade holdouts, tamping down conservative criticism on social media and urging some donors to press for “yes” votes from members they had funded.

When Mr. McCarthy won, so did Mr. Miller, who in addition to his wide-ranging volunteer roles for his friend is one of Washington’s most prominent Republican lobbyists, representing a spectrum of blue-chip corporate clients with issues at stake in Washington.

Rarely has a lobbyist enjoyed the access to a House speaker that Mr. Miller has with Mr. McCarthy, a California Republican. As Mr. McCarthy has gained power, Mr. Miller’s prominent place in his orbit has drawn increased scrutiny from watchdog groups that track political influence as well as from conservatives who see him as an unaccountable power behind the throne whose presence is starkly at odds with their increasingly populist, anti-corporate message.

Mr. Miller’s clients include Apple, Anheuser-Busch, Dow Chemical, General Electric, the Wall Street giant Blackstone, Occidental Petroleum, the drugmaker trade group PhRMA, Elon Musk’s SpaceX and other companies, some of them girding for scrutiny from Republicans eager to take on what they see as anti-conservative bias among “woke” corporations.

Responding to a post on Twitter from a reporter who had spotted Mr. Miller headed into Mr. McCarthy’s office during the early rounds of the vote for speaker, when Mr. McCarthy was coming up short, Representative Matt Gaetz, the Florida Republican who was a leader of the opposition, tweeted, “McCarthy isn’t even speaker and the lobbyists are moving in!”

  19. That looks like a perfect carrot cake recipe – !

Here’s one of my very favorite cake recipes:

Really good – Ella Mae’s Caramel Cake
    Icing
    2 cups sugar
    1/2 cup dark brown sugar
    1 c evaporated milk

    Boil to soft ball stage
    Cool before frosting cake

Ella Mae made plain moist yellow cake in 2 or 3 layers, then frosted it, decorating all over with chopped pecans, or just whole pecans in a ring around the top. Toasted lightly salted pecans would give that popular salted caramel flavor. Ella Mae used chopped pecans pressed around the sides and whole pecans in a ring on top. The frosting tastes like New Orleans pralines!

    ——
Moist 3 Layer Buttermilk Yellow Cake

    Ingredients:
    3 cups flour
    2 cups sugar
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp soda
    1 tsp baking powder

    1/4 cup butter
    1/4 cup oil
    2 tsp vanilla
    1-1/2 cups buttermilk
    3 eggs

    Directions:
    Whisk together dry ingredients
    Add:
    1/4 cup butter
    1/4 cup oil
    2 tsp vanilla
    3/4 cup buttermilk

    Beat eggs with remaining buttermilk.
    Add to batter mixture.

  20. Another favorite cake is Southern Lemon Cheese Cake – with a lemon curd like frosting. The cake is made with the egg whites and the frosting with the yolks.

Recipe from Alabama Farmer’s Market – http://flfarmersmarket.com/tag/lemon-cheese-cake/ (Farmers markets in the South tend to have restaurants with old timey southern cooking made from scratch)

    Cake Ingredients:
    3 cup all purpose flour
    1/2 cup butter
    2 cup sugar
    3/4 cup whole milk
    2 teaspoon baking powder
6 egg whites beaten stiff (add last)

Icing Ingredients: (This icing is more like a glaze then a true icing.)
    6 egg yolks
    1/2 cup butter
    1 cup sugar
juice and grated rind of two lemons

    Cake Directions:
    1) Mix all ingredients for cake except egg whites.
    2) Beat egg whites and fold into cake mixture.
    3) Bake at 350° until when a toothpick is stuck in the center of the cake it comes out clean (Sorry, I can’t be more specific. That’s what the recipe says)

    Icing Directions:
    1) Mix all ingredients and cook over medium heat until thick. Stir to keep from sticking or cook in a double boiler

Coconut Cake – The lemon filling above is so good between the layers of a fresh coconut cake (not the dried canned coconut, but made with real coconuts, cracked, peeled and grated. Oh man!

My Mama made fresh coconut cake every Christmas – and she used the coconut milk in the cake batter. She put the egg yolks in the cake and the egg whites in the frosting….see below.

My Mother-in-Law made this frosting to go on her coconut cakes:

    Miracle Frosting

    1/2 cup water
1-1/3 cups sugar – boil together 3 minutes.

Beat 2 egg whites, 1/4 tsp cream of tartar and 1/4 tsp salt, while adding thin stream of the sugar water syrup mixture.

Beat at high speed 5 minutes, add 1 tsp vanilla.

  22. I am adding a short daily prayer to the board. I would invite each of you, if you wish, to also add one or maybe two of your own liking. I do not want to stifle anyone but please limit yourself to one or two religious postings. here’s one I found that I liked.
