The Columbia Disaster

The Columbia disaster, the breakup of the U.S. space shuttle orbiter Columbia on February 1, 2003, that claimed the lives of all seven astronauts on board just minutes before it was to land at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Columbia, which had made the shuttle program’s first flight into space in 1981, lifted off for its 28th mission, STS-107, on January 16, 2003. STS-107 was a flight dedicated to various experiments that required a microgravity environment. The crew was comprised of commander Rick Husband; pilot William McCool; mission specialists Michael Anderson, David Brown, Kalpana Chawla, and Laurel Clark; and payload specialist Ilan Ramon, the first Israeli astronaut. As Columbia was reentering Earth’s atmosphere, it broke apart over Texas at approximately 9:00 am Eastern Standard Time at an altitude of 40 miles, showering debris across southeastern Texas and southern Louisiana. The disintegration of the craft was recorded by television cameras and U.S. Air Force radar. Its major components and the remains of the crew were recovered over the following month.

The destruction of Columbia followed by almost exactly 17 years the loss of Challenger in a launch accident on January 28, 1986. Ironically, the cause of the Columbia catastrophe soon was determined to be launch-related as well. Films showed that a piece of insulating foam broke loose from the external propellant tank and struck the leading edge of the left wing approximately 81 seconds after liftoff. Bits of foam had detached in past missions without serious mishap, and, at the time of the Columbia launch, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) engineers did not think that the foam carried enough momentum to cause significant damage. In fact, as demonstrated in post-accident tests, the foam was capable of punching a large hole in the reinforced carbon-carbon insulation tiles that protected the shuttle’s nose and wing leading edges from the extreme heat of atmospheric reentry. Although some engineers had wanted ground-based cameras to take photos of the orbiting shuttle to look for damage, the request did not get to the right officials.

During Columbia’s atmospheric reentry, hot gases penetrated the damaged tile section and melted major structural elements of the wing, which eventually collapsed. Data from the vehicle showed rising temperatures within sections of the left wing as early as 8:52 am, although the crew knew of their situation for perhaps only a minute or so before vehicle breakup. Subsequent investigation by NASA and the independent Columbia Accident Investigation Board uncovered a number of managerial shortcomings, in addition to the immediate technical reason (poor manufacturing control of tank insulation and other defects), that allowed the accident to happen.

The most palpable result of the accident was a grounding of the remaining three shuttles—Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavour (the last built to replace Challenger)—until NASA and its contractors could develop means to prevent similar accidents, which included kits for repairs in orbit.

Assembly of the International Space Station (ISS) in Earth orbit was suspended after the Columbia accident until shuttle flights could resume. Limited research on the ISS was conducted by rotating two-person crews launched in Russian Soyuz spacecraft. The shuttle did not return to space until the STS-114 mission, which launched on July 26, 2005.

I found these segments from a site called Ranker:

https://www.ranker.com/list/space-shuttle-columbia-disaster/michelle-nati

The team on the ground knew Columbia’s astronauts would not make it home and faced an agonizing decision – should they tell the crew that they would die upon re-entry or face suffocating due to depleted oxygen stores while still in orbit?

In the end, it was decided it was best for them not to know. On his blog, former shuttle project manager Wayne Hale revealed that Jon Harpold, Director of Mission Operations, told him:

You know, there is nothing we can do about damage to the TPS. If it has been damaged, it’s probably better not to know. I think the crew would rather not know. Don’t you think it would be better for them to have a happy, successful flight and die unexpectedly during entry than to stay on orbit, knowing that there was nothing to be done until the air ran out?

This was not the first time foam had broken off in space flights. In fact, it had happened several times before (and without incident), so much so that it was referred to as “foam shedding.” NASA engineers dismissed the problem of foam shedding as being of no great urgency.

When a NASA engineering manager, Don L. McCormack Jr., told Mission Management Team member Linda Ham of his concerns about the issue, he was told by her that it was “no issue for this mission.”

After the horrific crash, Columbia’s debris field stretched from Central Texas to Western Louisiana. A team of more than 25,000 professionals and volunteers searched an area of 2.3 million acres to recover everything possible that remained from Columbia. Due to the large area and extensive number of fragments, pieces are still being found to this day.

More than 14 years later, only about 84,000 pieces – or 40% – of Columbia have been recovered and are still being studied.

  2. Good morning! Very interesting, Pat. I’m torn about the decision not to tell them….perhaps they would have preferred having time to prepare themselves? To say their last prayers and ask for any forgiveness they might feel they need? I honestly can’t say whether I would want to know or not…..unfortunately, people get complacent, even in the most critical of situations.

    1. Morning!
I’m wondering why the government couldn’t ask for help from the russians? maybe they had a ship that could bring them safely down? or why couldn’t they stay at the space station till they could repair the shuttle somehow? unmanned ships have docked there before. they could have brought food? tools? whatever…it wasn’t clear why they HAD no other options but to leave…

“Bill Gates’ Agenda: Connect Your Identity, Finances and Medical Records — Bill Gates’ post-COVID-19 plans for the world include an unprecedented campaign to control the global population in its totality, from cradle to grave, according to journalist James Corbett.”
    By Dr. Joseph Mercola

    “Story at a glance:

    — Bill Gates has used his staggering wealth to buy control, and he’s done it under the cloak of “charity.” A significant piece of that control is the control over population growth. Gates’ family also has a long history of supporting eugenics.

    — According to Gates, the global population could be lowered by 10% to 15% if we “do a really great job on new vaccines, health care [and] reproductive health services.” His theory is that as health improves, families opt to have fewer children.

    — In 2017, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance — founded by the Gates Foundation in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Bank and vaccine manufacturers — decided to provide every child with a digital biometric identity to ensure 100% vaccine coverage.
Gates has also invested in the development and implementation of biometric identification programs tied in with digital currencies.

    — Ultimately, the plan is to connect everything together — our identity, finances, medical data, vaccine records and more — at which point we will be 100% enslaved.

    From Dr. Joseph Mercola:

Since COVID-19 first entered the scene, the exchange of ideas has basically been outlawed. By sharing my views and those of various experts throughout the pandemic on COVID-19 treatments and the experimental COVID-19 jabs, I became a main target of the White House, the political establishment and the global cabal.

Propaganda and pervasive censorship have been deployed to seize control over every part of your life, including your health, finances and food supply. The major media is a key player and has been instrumental in creating and fueling fear.

I am republishing this article in its original form so that you can see how the progression unfolded.”

  5. “CNN Suffers Worst Viewership Week in Nine Years”
by Bob Adelmann January 31, 2023

ENTIRE ARTICLE @ NewAmerican: “The latest Nielsen ratings show that CNN’s viewership last week fell to its lowest level since 2014. And the demographic most critical to sponsors has all but disappeared. For the week ending January 22, CNN averaged just 444,000 viewers during prime viewing time, falling below 450,000 for the first time in nine years. In the critical advertising demographic, age 25-54, the network had just 93,000 viewers.

Fox News, on the other hand, enjoyed two million viewers, with 256,000 viewers between ages 25-54. CNN This Morning, created three months ago to challenge Fox News’ Fox & Friends, has failed to gain traction as well. It attracted 331,000 viewers last week, while Fox & Friends had nearly a million.

TheWrap, a news outlet focused on the entertainment industry, reported that insiders familiar with CNN’s troubles are saying that a simple revamp of the present lineup proposed by CNN’s new CEO Chris Licht isn’t likely to improve things anytime soon.

Licht, who came on after the noisy termination of host Chris Cuomo over sex allegations and political shenanigans concerning his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, put the best face he could on the latest data from Nielsen. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times he admitted that “trust” in the network “has eroded,” but that the owners, Warner Brothers Discovery, are very patient: “The people I work for understand that we didn’t get here overnight, and we’re not going to get out of it overnight.”

Chris Cuomo was CNN’s highest-rated host until his termination, and his replacements — Don Lemon, Kaitlin Collins, and Poppy Harlow — just aren’t cutting it. Licht has said that the network has to overcome its perception of promoting far-left propaganda delivered by noisy and acidic newsreaders. He correctly noted: The general sense was that you [as a conservative] would not get a fair shake and you wouldn’t be allowed to make your point. I don’t want CNN to be a place where you [as a conservative] have such a combative experience that you go fundraise off of it.

He added: “We … want to be a place where we can have an open exchange of ideas no matter where you’re coming from, and that you would be treated with respect. We won’t invite you on to score points on you.”

However, Licht is determined to stay with the same people, just move them around a little on the network’s chessboard: “I think we have all the right raw materials, and now it’s just really about coalescing how the show is produced around those three personalities.… It’ll take some time to grow again.”

Moving the hosts who are the face of the failing network and the cause of its declining viewership around to different time slots isn’t going to solve CNN’s problem, if it is to be solved at all. The demographic CNN needs has moved on to Newsmax, The Epoch Times, and other more balanced networks. Until Licht and his bosses at Warner Brothers Discovery awaken to that fact, CNN will continue to flounder.

Such an “awakening” is extremely unlikely to occur, thanks to ties Warner Brothers Discovery and its other five media giants have with the globalist Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). The other five are:

    General Electric (Comcast, NBC, Universal Pictures, and others);
    News Corp (New York Post, Fox News, and The Wall Street Journal);
    Disney (ABC, ESPN, Miramax, and others);
Viacom (MTV, Paramount Pictures, and others); and
CBS (NFL.com, Showtime, 60 minutes, and others).

As The New American pointed out at the time the CFR was celebrating its 100th anniversary:

“The CFR has managed to place its members into controlling positions in the major corporate media. In plain words, the fix is in. The three-letter “news” organizations – ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, CNN, NYT, WSJ, FOX, NPR, etc. – are merely echo chamber adjuncts of the CFR.”

As we noted, nothing is likely to change, either at CNN through its proposed changes in formatting (moving the same players around to different positions on the chessboard), or the other majors controlled by the CFR, until “more Americans awaken, expose the CFR’s growing control, and oppose its New World Order agenda.”

  7. We need this in EVERY state!!!!

EXCERPT: “The state legislature of Texas is considering bills that would establish a statutory process for reviewing federal acts and would prohibit state enforcement and participation with any of those acts found to be beyond the powers granted to the federal government by the states in the U.S. Constitution.

Should such a process be enacted by the state government, then unconstitutional acts of the federal government would be treated as null, void, and of no legal effect within the sovereign borders of the Lone Star State.

As for the particulars of the bills, the Tenth Amendment Center reports:

“Rep. Valoree Swanson (R) filed House Bill 262 (HB262) on Nov. 14, 2022, and Sen. Mayes Middleton (R) filed Senate Bill 242 (SB242) on Nov. 17. The legislation would direct the state attorney general to provide monthly written reports to the governor, lieutenant governor, speaker of the house, and each member of the legislature that identify acts by the federal government that violate the rights guaranteed to the citizens of the United States by the United States Constitution or exceed the powers specifically granted to the federal government by the United States Constitution.” The bill would prohibit a state agency or political subdivision from cooperating with a federal government agency in implementing any act determined by the AG to be in violation of the Constitution.

Rep. Ivan Bell (R) filed House Bill 384 (HB384) on Nov. 14, 2022. It is the companion bill to SB313 filed by Sen Bob Hall (R) on Dec. 19. The legislation would create the Joint Legislative Committee on Constitutional Enforcement, which would review federal laws, agency rules and regulations, executive orders, federal court decisions, and treaties “that challenge the sovereignty of the state and of the people for the purpose of determining if the federal action is unconstitutional.”

Before finally being rejected and refused enforcement, any suspect decree out of D.C. would be placed before the judges of the Texas Supreme Court for their opinion. If the judges deem the federal act violative of the U.S. Constitution, then the act would be taken up by both houses of the Texas state legislature. If the lawmakers vote to reject the federal act — that is to say, if they find it unconstitutional — then that finding would be submitted to the governor, and should he sign it, the federal act would be officially branded unconstitutional and no state resources or personnel could be used to enforce the proposed federal decree.

The procedure proposed by several Texas legislators is commendable and inarguably a step in the right direction: away from federal overreach and toward state sovereignty. Texas’s sister states should likewise enact statutes stiff arming all unconstitutional acts, preventing them from crossing the state borders.

There was a time when American statesmen passed resolutions that not only refused to enact or even recognize as valid any unconstitutional act of the federal government, but described such despotism as “evil” and restated the states’ residual power to ignore such acts and to reject any legal vitality thereof. Basically, these patriotic public servants called unconstitutional acts what they were: tyranny.
    ————–
Note the description of the proper constitutional relationship between the states and the federal government: States not only have the right, but have a duty, to stop federal acts from progressing beyond the borders of the states and beyond the borders of its constitutional authority.

It is irrefutable that the federal government could not enforce its many unconstitutional programs and edicts were it not for the cooperation of the states and the use of state resources such as money and personnel.

Therefore, the best way to nip federal tyranny in the bud is for states to withhold all financial and human support for any act of the general government that exceeds the limits of its powers as enumerated in the U.S. Constitution.”

Which tells us a lot about what the ungrateful migrants demanding free permanent housing in New York have been steeped in. The government tells them free housing is a right, and tells them to seize that free housing as a matter of right, and the whole thing goes to hell in a handbasket.

That’s what they heard for years growing up– on television, on the radio, in the schools, in the streets, and that’s what destroyed their country. Now, with this migrant-staged uprising, they are taking that learned lesson into the U.S. as a matter of ‘right’ and claiming the right to “permanent” housing on top of it.

  10. CLAIM: Tractor Supply chicken feed allegedly laced with ingredients causing chickens to stop laying eggs; company board members tied to WEF, Jeffrey Epstein

“(Natural News) CLAIM: The popular Tractor Supply chain of farm stores has reportedly reformulated its “Producer’s Pride” chicken feed, causing hens that eat it to no longer produce eggs.

Multiple online sources, many of them hen farmers, say that ever since Tractor Supply changed the Producer’s Pride formulation, their birds have gone desolate. This could be because of a reduction in the amount of protein contained in the feed, or it could be caused by other factors such as aflatoxin contamination.

Note: Mike Adams has committed to acquiring and testing Tractor Supply chicken feed products in his food science lab and sharing the results publicly, whatever they show. Tests to be conducted will include aflatoxins, heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, zinc, copper, strontium, etc.), glyphosate, and a full slate of microbiology including e.coli, salmonella, yeast and mold.

It is wintertime, which means birds are exposed to less sunlight and thus naturally produce fewer eggs. However, farmers say the drop-off in egg production is so dramatic this year that many hens are producing no eggs at all, as opposed to just a reduction in eggs.

All of this is happening at a time when inflation is off the charts and eggs are in short supply supposedly due to “avian flu”. (Related: There probably isn’t a real avian flu crisis like the media and the Biden regime are claiming, though, since the U.S. government is using fraudulent PCR tests to diagnose hens before slaughtering them.)

Egg prices have increased from an average of $1.71 per dozen 18 months ago to more than $7 a dozen today. This, coupled with the avian flu psy-op and now the Tractor Supply “Feedgate” issue, has created an egg crisis with no end in sight.”

It’s not just an Executive branch issue, it’s not just a Presidential issue, we also should be more thoughtful in the House and the Senate about how we handled classified materials and information. We ought to have the same kind of background checks and training that we do in the military…This is something that I think we in the Congress don’t totally understand, frankly, because I don’t think we have adequate training and understanding of the sensitivity of these documents….We have no training, cultural training, as an example, during our on-boarding when we come in as freshman – we are literally “signed into” our clearances, something it took me more than a year to obtain when I was a young lieutenant – it’s something that is instantly granted to us so I think there needs to be more thought process to that…..”

“Bannon slams FBI for political persecution of pro-life activist over altercation with pro-abortion activist outside planned parenthood — ‘”Just doing my job’ is not good enough.”

ENTIRE ARTICLE @ PostMillennial: “Mark Houck spoke with former White House strategist Steve Bannon on Tuesday’s War Room, after a Philadelphia jury found the pro-life activist not guilty of violations of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. On September 23, 2022, Houck’s home, where his wife and children were, was swarmed by roughly 15 vehicles and dozens of armed federal SWAT officers. Houck was arrested during the incident.

Houck said that he believes the government knew it was a “flimsy case,” saying that they approached him with a plea bargain that would have given him “a slap on the wrist” for him to plead guilty. Houck told Bannon about his experience at the Federal Building in Philadelphia after being found not guilty, where he was put in a white room where he was chained to a table for six hours.

“Once they let me go they brought me to the US marshals in the same building, with the same shackles on. I was inching my feet along, and I made comment, ‘why is this necessary? Can’t I just walk with a normal gait? I don’t know why you would have to put someone through that.’ US marshals treated me like I was a convicted felon and treated me like no other person has treated me.

“When I finally emerged and came to be with my family… 9 or 10 hours later, we embraced and we prayed, hugged, and celebrated our reunion,” Houck said, noting that this experience took place about 100 yards from Independence Hall in Philadelphia. Bannon told Houck that the state troopers, FBI agents, are not the good guys under the Biden administration, calling them the “Romans that are persecuting first-century Christians.”

“Mark Houck was chained like a dog and brought in… for one simple reason, I want this audience to fully understand it; he’s lived Christianity. He doesn’t talk about his religion, he doesn’t go to church once a week… It’s his lived Christianity that brought him to be chained like a dog in that room.

“… This is first-century Rome, they’re like the Nazis. There’s no difference. For the state troopers and the FBI agents and US marshalls [to say] ‘I’m just doing my job,’ go back and look at the Nuremberg trials. ‘Just doing my job’ is not good enough,” Bannon said.

He said that he will be back out in front of abortion centers praying the rosary next week.”

    1. WASHINGTON, DC — In a stunning development sure to cause significant controversy around the globe, every human being on earth has been ordered to make financial reparations payments to every other human being in the world due to the fact that at some point in history, every people group owned slaves from another people group.

“This is really the only way to truly guarantee actual equality,” said Richard Fliehr, Chairman of Reparations for Humanity, a global non-profit group looking to bring in billions of dollars in revenue from its push for reparations. “We started with a few ethnic groups, but according to our research, pretty much every group, nation, and civilization has owned slaves of every other ethnic group at some point.”

Though having every person pay every other person is (by definition) equal, some groups were outraged. “How is making everything the same for everyone fair?!” asked Reverend Al Sharpton to reporters gathered outside his luxurious apartment building in New York City’s Upper East Side. “Acknowledging the fact that every group of people has oppressed another group of people at some time during human history is a slap in the face to those of us who want special treatment. This is unacceptable!”

At publishing time, various minority organizations in the United States sought to appeal the decision after learning that people of white European descent were not the only people who would be required to pay reparations and were not, in fact, collectively responsible for all oppression and human suffering from the beginning of time.

“The third article examining a libelous smear by Gateway Pundit against Marco Polo, Garrett Ziegler and their report on the Hunter Biden/Biden Family laptop”

EXCERPT: “What sort of playground is this? You tell us, Gateway Pundit. You asked the question so now, why don’t you answer it in a manner emblematic of your outlet having a modicum of journalistic integrity? Or won’t your apparent intelligence community handlers permit that instead deciding to sneak a flimsy and pathetic effort through the backdoor?

That first question about a “playground” suitable for clowns was the opening line of a Gateway Pundit article from several days ago. That article went on to level false accusations against, malign and smear Garrett Ziegler and his Marco Polo group over its authoritative and definitive report on the Hunter Biden [Biden Family] laptop.

Did Gateway Pundit or for that matter anyone else to-date take Marco Polo or Ziegler to task over the substantive content of the report? No, of course not. It can’t be done. The report is a leviathan of a granular and meticulously detailed, sourced, cited and water-tight document representing 14 months of real forensic documentary and digital examination of the Biden laptop that law firms would pay exorbitant fees to procure.

In pro bono service to America and Americans, the entire world can have it for free right here. Unfortunately for the Gateway Pundit, they got it wrong; very wrong.

In fact, TGP got it so wrong that it caused us to question what appears to be clear ties to the intelligence community in ways that would subject TGP to undue influence, which would impact the timing and content of its article publications. The influence has clear threads to Israel and China on Gateway Pundit’s own accord and vis-a-vis XRVision, which is the Singapore-based AI firm that Gateway Pundit utilizes for the provision of Biden emails in its publications.

XRVision’s CTO is Yaacov Apelbaum and not coincidentally, there was a preexisting working relationship between him and Gateway Pundit to precede TGP’s journalistic tripe smearing Marco Polo and Ziegler.
