Carnation flowers are symbolic of love, fascination, and distinction and are scientifically known as Dianthus. They are also known as “The Flowers of God.” According to a Christian legend, Carnations first appeared on earth as Jesus carried the Cross. Carnations sprang up from where the Virgin Mary’s tears fell as she cried over her son’s plight.

So, whether you love giving flowers or are an avid gardener, there’s something quite special about carnation flowers.

About the Carnation Flower and Plant

The single flowers of the Carnations species, Dianthus caryophyllus have 5 petals and vary from white to pink to purple in color. Border Carnation cultivars may have double flowers with as many as 40 petals.

When grown in gardens, Carnations grow to between 6 and 8.5 cm in diameter. Petals on Carnations are generally clawed or serrated.

Carnations are bisexual flowers and bloom simply or in a branched or forked cluster. The stamens on Carnations can occur in one or two whorls, in equal number or twice the number of the petals.

The Carnation leaves are narrow and stalk less and their color varies from green to grey-blue or purple. Carnations grow big, full blooms on strong, straight stems.

Growing Carnations

Carnations grow readily from cuttings made from the suckers that form around the base of the stem, the side shoots of the flowering stem, or the main shoots before they show flower-buds.

The cuttings from the base make the best plants in most cases.

These cuttings may be taken from a plant at any time through fall or winter, rooted in sand and potted up.

They may be put in pots until the planting out time in spring, which is usually in April or in any time when the ground is ready to be handled.

The soil should be deep, friable and sandy loam.

Carnation Plant Care

Carnations need some hours of full sun each day and should be kept moist.

Avoid over-watering as this may tend to turn the foliage yellow.

Spent flowers should be removed promptly to promote continued blooming.

The quality of the bloom depends on the soil and irrigation aspects for growing carnations.

Those who grow carnations should know the importance of pinching, stopping and disbudding.

At the time of plucking carnations, leave three to four nodes at the base and remove the stem.

The plant foliage should not be exposed to the direct heat of a stove or the sun.

Carnation Meaning

These flowers are one of the oldest cultivated flowers across the globe. As such, they have a rich history associated with symbolism, and there are several different meanings. The three most loved colors are pink, red, and white carnations.

Pink carnation flowers are known to reflect a mother’s love and gratitude. However, dark pink ones represent tenderness and are sometimes associated with the feeling of love that could bloom on a first date. Light pink carnations are the ones that most dearly express the love of a mother.

Red carnations are most commonly associated with feelings of deep love and affection. Light red ones symbolize admiration – the lightness of their hue enunciates a softer expression of the portrayal of love. While red roses are the ultimate in romance, red carnations are great if you want to convey something a bit less serious.

When it comes to pure love and good luck, white carnations are your best bet. White is a color of purity and luck. When gifting someone white carnations, you convey messages of good wishes for a prosperous life.

The Symbolism of The Carnation Flower

Believe it or not, carnations exude strong symbolism. Although these flowers could easily be taken for granted, they actually have a lot to teach us.

Carnation flowers have a different symbolic meaning in various cultures around the world.

Chinese culture: Carnations are typically used at weddings.

Rome and Greece: Carnations were used in ceremonial crowns, and the name was believed to derive from the Latin word for “wreath” or “garland.”

Korea: People wear pink and red carnations on Parents Day to express admiration, love, and gratitude.

Japanese culture: Carnation flowers are the most loved flower for Mother’s Day, and the red carnation is symbolic of love.

American culture: Carnations are the official Mother’s Day flower and are commonly used for special occasions such as weddings for corsages and boutonnieres for proms.

Victorian era: The colors of the carnation symbolized an answer to a secret question. A yellow carnation was indicative of ‘no,’ and a solid color meant ‘yes, and a striped carnation communicated rejection in a diplomatic way.

Growing Tips for Carnations

Carnation flowers are known to thrive in humid environments. This means that they flourish best in moist conditions. They also grow better when placed fully in the sun with soil that is either slightly alkaline or more neutral in alkalinity.

Caring for them requires little effort, and when stems are cut, they can last for a few weeks. This is what makes them so ideal for growing and using in flower arrangements and bouquets. To make sure that they grow well, it’s best to make sure that they get about four to six hours of sunlight a day.

Take care not to over water carnations. Watering them two to three times a week should suffice. If you notice that the petals or foliage turn yellow, you’re probably over watering them.

If you want to try growing them from seeds, it’s best to plant them in early spring or late fall. It’s also a good idea to grow them indoors. Allow the seedlings some time to grow, and when they are around five inches tall, you can transfer them into a bed that is well prepared or into a pot.

Carnation flowers will form small side shoots (or suckers) around their stems to allow for growth from their cuttings. The best time to take cuttings is in the summer. During this time, the plant cells divide at a faster pace, which promotes root growth. You can also use peat to add more nutrients to the soil to help your carnations grow better.

Uses Of Carnations

Throughout history, there have been several uses of carnations. A common use was to brew the flowers in tea. This is thought to help reduce stress and boost energy levels. Carnation tea can also be used to treat fevers and stomach aches.

In the beauty industry, some products include carnation oil as an ingredient to help moisturize the skin. In addition to this, carnation flowers have also been used in massage oils to help soften and heal the skin while providing a calming scent.

Carnation flowers are unique and special, and they should be given credit for their rich history and symbolism. They are robust plants – making them the perfect flowers to grow in your garden. Also, they pair well with other flowers and have a pleasant, calming smell.

    1. “Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow got some amazing news during a recent live broadcast on ESPN. Tebow, who is also well known for his Christian faith, has had some ups and downs over the past decade but his dedication to God has always remained his top priority.

      While commentating a recent broadcast, colleague Joe Tessitore listed off 18 players as well as four coaches who were just inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Former USC running back Reggie Bush and former Georgia and Miami coach Mark Richt were among the names of individuals who made the cut. Tessitore ran through the names one by one but he purposely missed one.

      “I forgot one name here,” Tessitore said. “The graphic was missing this because we also have a new Hall of Famer. He is arguably the most popular, the most successful, the singularly most impactful college football quarterback of the last generation or perhaps ever to play.”

      As Tessitore spoke, Tebow started to understand what was going on. “Timmy, congratulation,” he said. The two got up and gave each other a hug along with the other co-hosts of the show, Jesse Palmer and Dan Muller. “If there has ever been a first-ballot College Football Hall of Famer, it’s this guy,” said Palmer, who played quarterback at the University of Florida as well.

      Tessitore joined in, “We know what you were as a player, but your commitment to the sport and the goodness that you’ve brought to everybody through the sport — you’re a Hall of Famer in every possible way.”

      “This is incredible. Did you guys plan this or something? Honestly, it’s just so humbling,” Tebow said. “Thank you. There’s so many people that are a part of this…My granddad dreamed of getting the chance to see Florida win an SEC championship and he died before that happened. So when we were playing, we were playing for something a lot bigger than just winning or losing a game. Something that’s a lot bigger than just a pigskin. Santos (R-NY), who’s reportedly gone by a number of aliases in his truth-challenged past, appears to be depicted in a photo in a drag costume from 2008, according to an article from the Substack site “The Handbasket” by reporter Marisa Kabas.

    The latest look into Santos’ younger years was revealed to Kabas by Eula Rochard, a drag queen in Brazil and former friend of Santos. Santos and Rochard met when Rochard was already an established drag queen in a Brazilian city next to Rio de Janeiro, according to the report. “I think I met him when he was around 16 or 17 years old,” she said of Santos, who used to go by Anthony back then. “He used to hang out in my house while his mom was playing Bingo.”

    Santos has reportedly used the pseudonyms Anthony Devolder and Anthony Zabrovsky. The freshman congressman became a national punch line after he was caught in a series of lies about his college education, employment history and ethnic heritage, among other tall tales that keep piling up.

    The personal story that he campaigned on was largely disproven shortly before his first term in office was about to begin following a bombshell report in the New York Times. The lawmaker’s long list of lies and his questionable campaign financing are under investigation by local, state and federal officials — while prosecutors in Brazil have reopened a fraud case against him from 2008. Santos, who is the first openly gay non-incumbent Republican elected to the House, has resisted calls to resign.

    Rochard, speaking with Kabas, said she saw Santos on Brazilian television recently and messaged her friends from when she knew Santos that she thought it was him. When her friends doubted her, she found the old photo and posted it on Instagram. “The picture was taken in 2008 at the Pride Parade at Icarai Beach in Niteroi,” she told Kabas. “George had disappeared for a little while, and then returned to Brazil with a lot of money, and that was about the same time when the picture was taken.”

Chung on a separate occasion emailed Hunter Biden the phone numbers for the president’s cabinet secretaries.

  41. OK, I’m going to give my opinion of what should happen in the charging decision re: Baldwin. Here’s the deal: yes, he’s a piece of shit asswipe but I am quite sure he did not shoot her intentionally. IMO, he was truly heartsick with guilt when he discovered what he had done; like him or not, he IS still a human being and yes, he does have a heart buried in there somewhere. So, yes, he should serve some punishment for the carelessness that he, as one of the Producers, allowed to proliferate thruout that set for a very long time. The blame for this should be shared equally among all those who allowed it, with perhaps slightly more weight for the armorer whose job it was to govern the weapons handling, and NO-ONE should be allowed to buy their way out of it. I think he has already settled one civil case with the woman’s husband; perhaps there will be more, who knows.

This accusation comes as Santos faces pressure to resign due to lying and misrepresenting his educational, work, and family history. The veteran, Rich Osthoff, said that his pit bull Sapphire began developing a tumor in 2015 and it continued to grow in 2016, and Osthoff was homeless at the time.

    Osthoff’s mentor and friend Michael Boll, founder of New Jersey Veterans Network, said that Santos set up a GoFundMe for Osthoff’s pit bull, Sapphire, and a post from the Facebook profile of George Devolder links to a GoFundMe raising surgery funds for the dog. “Sapphire is a 10 year old red nose pit bull that has been keeping this man company, she dose [sic] not deserve to die because of this tumor, she deserves to be treated and cared for. […] Will you help this baby and her daddy stay together for a few more years? Does he not deserve to have her? Let’s all come together to help this family of two stay healthy!” the post said.

    Osthoff and Boll told CNN the fundraiser for Osthoff’s dog eventually raised around $3,000 but things went sour after Osthoff tried to access the GoFundMe money. Santos became uncooperative and difficult to work with, making it hard for Osthoff to access the funds. Santos reportedly said Osthoff needed to take his dog to a veterinary clinic of his choice and then claimed another clinic wouldn’t accept Santos’ form of payment. Osthoff said he had to jump through hoops and do everything Santos’ way.

    Eventually, Santos told Osthoff directly that he wouldn’t be getting the money. The animal died around six months later, CNN reported.”

    “The COVID-19 pandemic is over,” Guthrie tweeted on Tuesday. “It’s long overdue to end the COVID-19 [public health emergency] and for President Biden to relinquish his emergency powers.”

    Congress has previously introduced legislation to end the COVID-19 public health emergency, with the Senate most recently voting 62-36 in November to lift the measure. Shortly after, the White House indicated Biden would veto the measure if it made it to its desk.

    The emergency declaration was first issued in January 2020 and has been continually extended in 90-day increments since then. It’s not clear when the Biden administration intends to end the declaration, although the Department of Health and Human Services has pledged to notify states of its expiration at least 60 days in advance.

    When the public health emergency is lifted, it will bring several policy changes to a number of areas, such as insurance markets and treatment approvals.

    The emergency authorization allowed vaccines, testing, and treatments to be offered for free to the public throughout the pandemic. Additionally, the mandate declaration required states to offer continuous enrollment for Medicaid and other public health insurance programs for low-income people.

    Biden administration officials are reportedly considering ending the public health emergency as soon as this spring, although a decision has not been finalized.

    Republicans have long criticized the Biden administration for extending the COVID-19 emergency, arguing that officials lack the justification to keep it in place.

    Is it possible soon after Trump got the vaccines approved and many started getting them the drug companies changed the formulas to a more lethal one (unbeknownst to Trump) and the people now dying suddenly are the ones who received this deadly vaccine?

    yes.
    i’ve wondered if the vaccine trump signed off on is really the one given to the public.
    wouldn’t shock me at all if what he was told isn’t what was actually given to the public.
    its all crooked.
    if people were disobeying him in other areas or telling him one thing and then doing something else…why would this be any different.
    i don’t trust any of it.
