  1. We had a friend who was an avid fisherman. He and his fishing partner neighbor bought an old hearse to store and transport their bass boat and fishing gear. On the back end, they put a sign – “We ain’t got no body.”

Tom Barrack is a highly respected businessman whose DREAM was to see PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST, a very good and noble thing. Our seriously Weaponized “Justice” Department, however, has accused him of being a foreign agent of the UAE, which I do not believe he was, and which would mean that Hunter Biden would be a “foreign agent” of MANY countries. He NEVER spoke to me about “speeches” and what to say on this subject. He is being unfairly persecuted only because he is a supporter of “Trump.”

  5. gees, diabetic drugs that help patients lose weight are being used by celebrities as quick “lose-a-few-pounds” drugs and are causing supply shortages…
    FTA
Novo Nordisk — the maker of diabetes-related drugs Ozempic and Wegovy — says its facing supply constraints after the medications rose to popularity on social media amid reports that celebrities were using them to shed excess weight.

“We are currently experiencing intermittent supply disruptions on various doses of Ozempic due to the combination of incredible demand coupled with overall global supply constraints,” the pharmaceutical company told FOX Business.

Meanwhile, the Danish multinational pharmaceutical company says it’s also trying to resolve “supply constraints following unprecedented product demand and short-term manufacturing issues” with Wegovy.

  6. From CTH (I agree with him – let’s not forget – he lives in Florida. IIRC, I have brought this subject up before, as has Pat): “I could smell the establishment GOP in the Florida winds over the spring and summer. When DeSantis went into the bunker on the day of the FBI Mar-a-Lago raid, remained silent for 5 days, and then exited bunker with a new establishment brand image crew and communications team, it was obvious what just happened.

We accept things as they are, not as we would wish them to be. 94% funded by Wall Street hedge fund managers, billionaires and multinational corporations,… to the tune of over $200,000,000….. with a national campaign launch, book launch and national television advertising strategy…. It became brutally obvious.

Ron DeSantis in 2024 is Jeb Bush + Ted Cruz in 2016
Five Days in Bunker following Mar-a-Lago Raid 8/9/22
No expressed support for Donald Trump following Mar-a-Lago raid 8/9/22.

Voted to support TPP trade agreement and Obama Fast Track trade authorization
Supports all Ukraine funding and U.S. government spending in Ukraine
Endorsed Florida Red Flag Laws, most firearm confiscation of any state
Silent over the 100 Florida citizen J6 detainees (largest number in nation)
Asked legislature to criminalize boycotts of Israeli companies, including pharmaceutical companies
No support for E-verify system or employment law against illegal alien hires

Sooner or later people have to admit the obvious.

Ron DeSantis is a generally good governor, but he is being dishonest in his national intents.”

    1. BizPacReview: “If there is one thing that triggers leftist trolls even more than Donald J. Trump it is open displays of patriotism, especially when it comes to the National Anthem and Resistance Twitter erupted in fury after they got a good dose of both during the former president’s big rally in Robstown, Texas on Saturday night.

During Trump’s crowd-pleasing speech in which he spoke on a wide range of topics including the corruption of the regime, the terrible effects of Joe Biden’s policies and the creeping communism that has found a voice in the Democratic party, Trump took a shot at the J6 committee, the decidedly un-American, ultra-partisan tribunal put together by Speaker Nancy Pelosi who may have been inspired by the show trials of the old Soviet Union.

While the former – and perhaps future – POTUS was assailing Pelosi’s snarling attack dog Liz Cheney, the audience suddenly burst into a spirited rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner, a song that is like nails on a chalkboard to the freedom-hating left.

Prior to the heartwarming moment, Trump was taking credit for another one of the nicknames that he has famously given to his foes, the “un-select committee.”

“I never got any credit, I think that was one of the great names, unselects. They’re unselect. It’s supposed to be , you now they say, the select committee,” he said before turning his fire on the vicious daughter of former VP Dick Cheney, “by the way, how did Liz Cheney do? She lost by forty points!”

“Then the corrupt press, they say, ‘Liz Cheney we believe has a great future in politics.’ She lost by forty points, the single biggest margin a congressman or woman has ever lost by in history, and then they say, ‘we feel she has a fine future in politics.’ I don’t think so!” he added. “But January — all she does is January 6th, she’s like obsessed,” also taking a jab at Cheney’s fellow collaborator Adam Kinzinger.

“But remember this,” Trump continued. “January 6th, this committee, the two things they didn’t talk about, two things, was that the people went down there, and you could’ve had over a million people…,” at which point a section began singing the National Anthem and then the entire crowd, followed by chants of “USA! USA! USA!”

There is some chatter that the crowd’s rendition of the National Anthem wasn’t as spontaneous as it seemed, Mediaite reported that some users on conservative platforms Gettr and Truth Social are claiming that the reason behind the singing at 9 pm Eastern time were doing so because it is the time that the J6 political prisoners in the special D.C. gulag do so “from their jail cells,” offering up the following as an example.

Mediaite does state that “there’s nothing to verify or corroborate this claim at the time of this post.”

Whether it was timed to coincide with the J6 captives singing or not, there is no question that Trump supporters will continue to publicly express their love for America and won’t be deterred by “public-private partnership” of the government and the corrupt media.”

“Bill Maher unleashed a damning monologue on his ‘Real Time’ show that ran through the immense damage caused by Covid policies during the pandemic. One of the best things about the segment is that Neil deGrasse Tyson, a famous science nerd who has likened Covid policy critics to ‘conspiracy theorists,’ could only sit and watch, along with fellow guest Michael Smerconish. It was a refreshing dose of reality. Watch:

    https://rumble.com/v1oqo4s-bill-maher-reveals-devastating-collateral-damage-caused-by-americas-covid-p.html

“Now we’re getting some information,” Maher said. “After a while, we have time for find out just how bad the collateral damage has been. Here’s just a few cases. The pandemic erased two decades of progress in math and reading. See, right away, I gotta say, this pisses me off. I see these headlines. All the — the pandemic didn’t do that. The way we handled the pandemic did that.”

“The pandemic certainly was a thing. But let’s not just say the pandemic, because it was not written in stone that we had to handle it the way we did,” he continued. “ACT scores are the lowest in 30 years. Anxiety and depression, way up. The body mass index increase, doubled for kids [ages] 2 to 19. Drug overdose overdose deaths, murders way up. Inflation at a 40 year high, domestic violence increased. Oh, and my favorite car crashes. They couldn’t figure this out like way, way, way up. And they’re finally the — I love this. This is, the experts said, ‘You know what it is, people just went fucking mental.’ They just went nuts.’ They’re like, I’m home, the fucking kids are here all the time. My stupid husband is here all the time. I’m just gonna take it out on the highway. And they did. ”

“There was a group, the Great Barrington Declaration,” Michael Smerconish chimed in. “Yes,” Maher said.

“You know, these academics, and a lot of them are at Hoover, at Stanford… I had them on CNN, I put them on regularly on radio,’ Smerconish added. “And there was always enormous blowback because they were saying many of the things that you’re saying now, only they were saying it in real time.”

“That’s the name of the show,” deGrasse Tyson noted.

“Yeah,” Smerconish replied. “I guess what, I guess what I would, what I would add to that is I think one of the great injustices was the rush to judgment. As soon as the shit hit the fan to clear out every college campus in grad school, it never made sense to me that we sent them back through airplanes and car rides with relatives instead of keeping them right where they were. And, and Bill, I, I have three for whom I’m still paying tuition bills. They were so robbed of a year, year and a half of, of all the exchange, the mingling that you talked about last week.”

“Yeah,” Maher agreed. “We’re never gonna make that time up is my point,” Smerconish said. “Can I put something in on this?” deGrasse Tyson asked. “Yeah,” Maher said.

“What you don’t have is the benefit of the alternative scenarios to see how they would’ve come out to be able to judge whether what did happen was a lesser evil than other options that would’ve unfolded,” he argued, “And so, so suppose…”

“Well, actually we actually we do, because other countries handled it differently,” Maher objected. “Sweden didn’t handle it differently. Some of the places with the lowest vaccination rates turned out to have the best results.”

“With really low population densities,” deGrasse Tyson noted. “Yes. I mean, yes, there are different factors,” Maher said. “There are.” “I think that matters,” deGrasse Tyson said. “Yes, of course,” Maher replied. “It matters.”

After the two exchanged crosstalk, Maher made a point that drew applause. “You just said, ‘we can’t make any judgements because we don’t live in an alternative universe where America handled it differently’,” Maher said. “And I’m saying, saying other places handled it differently. That does matter.”

“It’s a legitimate, I think it’s a legitimate conversation to have,” Smerconish weighed in. “You remember there was talk of herd immunity and how we get there at the outset, and people were shouted down for even raising that prospect. I’m not the scientist you are. But in retrospect…”

“They shouted down the idea that it might have escaped from a lab,” Maher interjected. “That was somehow racist… as opposed to, somehow, if you believe that it came from the wet markets, you were a Democrat, and believe came from the lab, you were a Republican. This is ridiculous!”

It is ridiculous. But it’s great there is a show on television that is finally exposing the absurdity of it all, as Americans push back on a Democrat-run government that refuses to let the country move on from the Covid pandemic.”

  8. EXCERPT: “Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk responded to rap superstar Kanye West’s recent purchase of social media platform Parler. It gives Americans an insight into Musk’s mindset as he attempts to close his deal to buy out social media giant Twitter.

    https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1582388928870748161

“In retrospect, it was inevitable,” Musk tweeted, along with a cartoonized photoshop image of Musk, West, and Trump as the ‘Three Musketeers.”

Musk appears to have recently deleted the tweet.

While it is still unknown whether the power trio can save free speech throughout America and rescue the West from Woke tyrants, the mighty three’s capture of social media platforms would be a tremendous start. On Monday, it was reported that Trump-supporting rap superstar Kanye West was buying the social media platform Parler.

“Kanye West is acquiring Parler, the alternative social media platform favored by many conservatives,” CNN reported. “Parler’s parent company announced the deal on Monday morning, saying West had made ‘a groundbreaking move into the free speech media space and will never have to fear being removed from social media again’,” the report added. “The acquisition comes after West, who has legally changed his name to Ye, had his account temporarily locked by Twitter this month over an antisemitic tweet,” the report noted.

West was fresh off a media tour with prominent conservatives Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson. Owens’ husband happens to be Parler’s CEO, George Farmer. As I earlier noted on Explain America:

‘Kanye was also debanked by Chase Bank over his arguably anti-Semitic comments, prompting fear by many that this is an escalation of further censorship of Trump supporters. Big banks have not publicly debanked leftists who have made anti-Semitic remarks, such as singer Nick Cannon, Lebron James, Al Sharpton, or Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. However, popular Twitter personality Catturd was recently debanked by Bank of America, apparently for no other reason that he is an influential supporter of Donald Trump.’

Parler was infamously removed from Amazon’s AWS servers in January 2021 following the contested presidential election.
    —————-
Truth Social, backed by former President Donald Trump, just acquired a big win with the announcement that it is now available for download in the Google Play Store.

If Truth Social, Parler, and Twitter were all to become held by the based Power Trio, it would break the radical left’s intended monopoly on digital speech. Americans’ free speech on the Internet appears would be in much better shape moving forward.”

  9. Entire Article @ TheLibertyDaily: “While America First patriots put most of our election and campaign efforts into fighting Democrats once primary season is over, we often find ourselves fighting the RINO wing of the Uniparty Swamp as well. That’s exactly what stellar conservative Republican candidate Doug Mastriano is having to do as he tries to win the gubernatorial race in Pennsylvania.

RINO sleazeball Karl Rove and his American Crossroads Super PAC are going after Mastriano. It started over the weekend when Rove went on with Fox News host Shannon Bream to say Mastriano was “extreme.” Then, his Super PAC released a video that attacked Democrat senatorial candidate John Fetterman, but in doing so gave a de facto endorsement to Mastriano’s radical Democrat opponent, Josh Shapiro.

Kathy Barnette, who ran against Dr. Mehmet Oz for the Republican nomination in the state, sent me a Tweet and the video:

American Crossroads supposedly backs Republicans, but their ad is clearly intended to prop up Soros-backed failed Attorney General Shapiro.

Jack Posobiec wasn’t happy about it:

On today’s episode of The JD Rucker Show, I briefly explained why Mastriano is such a perfect candidate for Pennsylvania and why nobody who loves this nation should ever listen to Karl Rove.

  10. Entire Article @ JustTheNews:

“A national digital ID system for U.S. citizens is fast becoming a reality following a vote by the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee to advance the Improving Digital Identity Act.

Digital IDs act as online, data-laden representations of human beings. Many analysts, such as the authors of a 2019 McKinsey Global Institute report, argue they could be the key to unlocking access to financial services, various government benefits and educational opportunities, as well as a number of other critical services. Some of the same analysts, however, also warn that the “risks and potential for misuse of digital ID are real and deserve careful attention.”

Although the concerns about digital IDs are real, it’s important to separate the facts from the fearmongering fiction.

In simple language, a digital identity enables an individual to prove who they are in the virtual world. Proponents claim digital IDs offer greater privacy than traditional forms of identification and can help minimize some of the risks associated with physical documents such as driver’s licenses, passports, etc. Others, though, are quick to sound the alarm, warning that the introduction of digital IDs will almost certainly lead to an erosion of civil liberties.

“Digital is often touted as the ‘future,’ and many people cast such a transition as inevitable,” writes Jay Stanley, a senior policy analyst at the ACLU, who believes digital IDs could prove to be a privacy nightmare. “But digital is not always better — especially when systems are exclusively digital. There’s a reason that most jurisdictions have spurned electronic voting in favor of paper ballots, for example,” Stanley writes. With voting software in some states vulnerable to outside interference, paper ballots increasingly appear to be much safer.

Similarly, digital IDs are vulnerable to attack. Horror stories involving people’s identities being stolen are not uncommon. Remember, digital IDs are synonymous with data, and if there is one thing hacker’s love, it’s data — especially the data of U.S. citizens.

If digital identities are introduced in the U.S., which looks increasingly likely, they will be inextricably linked with financial services. Financial institutions, after all, are being encouraged to lead the way in the development of comprehensive digital identity solutions. Digital IDs, we’re told, will become more critical as online and mobile banking becomes more popular.

Recent headlines make it easy to see why so many people, fearful of the enforcement of political/ideological conformity through financial control, are hesitant to embrace digital IDs.

The banking behemoth JP Morgan Chase recently cut ties with Kanye West, who now goes by the name Ye. While the bank’s notification to him reportedly predates recent controversies involving the outspoken rapper and designer — he sported a White Lives Matter tee shirt and made remarks widely condemned as anti-Semitic — Ye appears to hold certain viewpoints that don’t align with those held by the multinational’s executives.

Around the same time as Ye found himself being kicked to the curb, JP Morgan decided to freeze the bank account of the National Committee for Religious Freedom (NCRF), a nonpartisan nonprofit founded by former Kansas Republican Sen. Sam Brownback. Brownback, who served as ambassador-at-Large for international religious freedom in the Trump administration, was offered no explanation for why the account was frozen.

Meanwhile, it recently emerged that PayPal, an online payment system used by tens of millions of Americans, planned to fine users $2,500 in damages if they were found guilty of spreading “misinformation.” Although PayPal has since reassured users that the policy won’t be introduced, this reassurance came only after considerable backlash, including mass account cancellations by users and a sharp drop in the company’s stock price.

Earlier this year, GoFundMe, a for-profit crowdfunding platform headquartered in Redwood City, Calif., froze donations to Canadian truckers opposing Covid vaccine mandates. Shortly afterwards, Justin Trudeau, the Canadian prime minister, who reportedly favors digital ID, threatened to freeze the bank accounts of the truckers.

The high probability of digital IDs being closely associated with access (or lack thereof) to finances and the growing link between ideological leanings and financial exclusion are fueling much of the resistance to digital identification. But the concerns don’t end there. Brett Solomon, the executive director of Access Now, an NGO that defends and extends the digital rights of users at risk around the world, argues that these IDs are ripe for abuse and that the threats of implementing them far outweigh the benefits.

Citing his decade of experience tracking the perils and promise of technology for human rights, Solomon wrote in a 2018 Wired article that “digital ID, writ large, poses one of the gravest risks to human rights of any technology that we have encountered.” Coupled with “facial recognition technology and other identifiers,” Solomon warned, digital IDs have “the capacity for geo-location of identifiers.” In other words, tracking citizens’ every digital movement.

Solomon’s ominous warnings tie in with fears that someone, somewhere is always watching, and if Big Brother doesn’t like what you’re doing, punishment will surely be served — fears that have only been heightened by recent headlines.”

  11. I haven’t bugged my ex-DIL since a few months after my son died – just sent her another e-mail with a link to Ron Johnson’s panel re: remdesivir, as well as this article. Maybe enough time has passed that she will at least look at it.

EXCERPT: “Two women have filed lawsuits alleging their husbands died from negligence at Inland Empire hospitals after doctors prescribed remdesivir to treat COVID-19 and then failed to tell them about dangerous side effects of the anti-viral drug.

The lawsuits, filed last month in state court against Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center and Redlands Community Hospital and several of their physicians, allege doctors engaged in fraud by prescribing each of the men remdesivir without their knowledge or consent. Doctors also allegedly failed to explain that the drug is ineffective in treating COVID-19, is toxic to kidneys and can cause death, the complaints say.

“In COVID-19 healthcare circles across the country, remdesivir has carried the nickname ‘Run, death is near,’ ” said the civil complaint, which seeks unspecifed damages. “Remdesivir is medically unnecessary for treatment of COVID-19.”

The World Health Organization issued a recommendation in November 2020 against the use of remdesivir regardless of disease severity, saying there is no evidence the drug improves survival or shortens recovery.”

          1. From June 2020: “Ever since the FDA last month cleared Gilead’s remdesivir for emergency use to treat COVID-19, investors have been wondering if the drug could possibly reap returns for the company, given the Big Biotech’s vow to donate millions of doses and a lack of details on pricing plans beyond that.

But one influential Wall Street firm does see a path to profitability for remdesivir—one that hinges on both commercial sales and governments around the world paying for the drug to build a stockpile after the current pandemic passes.

Analysts at SVB Leerink predicted Gilead will announce its pricing plans for remdesivir soon and start selling it commercially in the second half of the year, they wrote in a note to investors Wednesday. The analysts estimate the price will be $5,000 per course in the U.S., $4,000 in Europe and $2,000 elsewhere.

At those prices, remdesivir should bring in $1.9 billion in sales this year, peak at $7.6 billion in 2022 and then fall off from there, SVB Leerink said. The operating profit margin on the drug will peak at 19% in 2021, and governments should start scooping up the drug for stockpiling late that year, the analysts added.

Remdesivir’s contribution pushed SVB Leerink’s estimate for Gilead’s total sales in 2021 up 28% to $30 billion. The firm also boosted its earnings-per-share estimate by 10% for next year to $7.74.

“This forecast has more uncertainty than any that we have published in the last 15 years, but it reflects our view that remdesivir works, it saves medical and societal costs by shortening disease duration and reducing severity, and we believe that Gilead will be permitted to capture reduced but still real profitability from the product,” the analysts wrote.”

  12. I’ve got Fox on and listening to Kari Lake – that woman IS going to go far in politics, no doubt in my mind!!!

Talking about Katie Hobbs: “I feel dumber every time I hear her speak, TBH…to be real honest. She can’t even string a couple words together. She was asked a soft ball question a couple of weeks ago – name one good thing about the Latino community and she spent the entire minute and a half saying, “Um and uh, and couldn’t come up with one thing so I think she knows why she won’t debate. It would be like a BD cake vs. the chain saw if she showed up.”

Ainsley: “She’s not the only one who’s dodging. Compared to 2020, there were 17 debates in some of the most competitive Senate races – there were 5, there were 17 debates. There are only 7 in 2022…why are they doing this? Did this start with the pandemic where we saw Joe Biden campaign from the basement?”

Kari: “Well, my opponent is certainly taking a page from his playbook – we’re calling her Basement Hobbs – and I think that they realize that the American people are completely opposed to what the left is pushing. Their policies are dead-end; destructive policies that we’ve seen destroy states like CA, OR, WA, IL, NH and I can go on and on and on.

And we’ve seen these Democrat policies destroy our once-great cities: NY, LA, SF, Seattle, and they know that this is not what the people want. So they hide and they put out bogus polls and make people think it’s close. I can tell you – it is NOT close – we drew 3500 people to a rally and concert that we had on Saturday night. Conversely, my opponent – her biggest campaign event of the season and there were 15 people there. These polls are not close, we have a movement, and nothing is going to stop it.”

Ainsley: “RealClearPolitics, which I like because it’s an average of all the polls, has you ahead – 47.8%, Katie getting 46.2% – what are your issues – what are the issues that your constituents are focused on, and how can you help these families?”

Kari: (the economy, wide-open border, the fentanyl crisis, lack of proper education)

Ainsley: “I know that – there are rumors – that if Donald Trump runs again, that he might choose you as his VP running mate, you were interviewed yesterday and you said ‘This is a manipulation,’ you said because these rumors are out there trying to tell the voters that you will not serve for a total of 4 years. Tell us why you think that.”

Kari: “Well, I just think it’s humorous, Ainsley, when I first got into this, the press was attacking me: “What does she know, how dare she run for office, just who does she think she is, they were saying I didn’t have the skills to run for office, and now, all of a sudden, WHOA! I’m SO skilled that I might be running for VP. I think they’re trying to scare the voters – I really do! They’ve tried everything to bring us down and, like I said, we have a movement – it’s not about me – it’s about the people of AZ. I’m going to be here not just 4 years, I’m gonna be here 8 years, and I’m going to be the fake news’ worst nightmare for 8 years, so they’d better get used to it.”

She and Blake Masters will be on with Hannity tomorrow – that one I will record, even tho I can’t stand Hannity. She is going far, IMO.

  13. in keeping with today’s open…
my mother-in-law was a school bus driver. she drove daily and also drove the sports teams to games and she was loved by her kids. On the day of her funeral, it snowed hard in the early morning and school was canceled that day–giving “her kids” a chance to come to the funeral and say goodby.
when the funeral procession got to the cemetery, the hearse ( a typical black solemn hearse) could not make it up the small (normally grass covered) path to her final resting spot. the tires spun and spun…until finally her sons, the funeral employees, and some high school kids pushed her hearse up the little hill.
I bet mom enjoyed the heck out that!

    1. Oh, how sweet! I know without a doubt the school where my Sis has driven the bus for, like, 20 years, WILL shut down. And not just her town – they joined with another nearby small town a couple of years ago so that town will shut down, too. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see her students doing that for her. But I’ll bet they’ll figure out a way to do it with a truck….a BIG truck – literally everyone knows about Sis and her trucks…..then again, I think she is being cremated so…..whatever it is, both towns will participate, no doubt about that and I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see them have a parade for her. All of the teams always want Miss Carol to drive them to/from games – she get’s them there quicker and get’s them home quicker! LOL

Former UK Treasury chief Rishi Sunak won the race to become the new prime minister on Monday, the third since the summer and the nation’s first non-white leader. Sunak won the latest leadership battle after his only remaining rival, Leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt, conceded and withdrew. “Rishi has my full support,” Mordaunt said in a concession statement.

Sunak will be invited by King Charles III to form a government. The results of the race will make the multimillionaire former hedge fund boss Britain’s first non-white leader and the first Hindu to take the top job. At 42, he’s also the youngest prime minister in more than 200 years, a political prodigy dubbed “Dishy Rishi” thanks to his youthful looks, sharp suits, and smooth, confident manner.

Sunak has already promised “integrity, professionalism and accountability” — a contrast to the chaos of his two recent predecessors, over both of whom he had sounded alarm.

The Oxford University grad had quit as Treasury chief in July in protest of the doomed leadership of then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson, a major turning point leading to Johnson’s eventual resignation 48 hours later.

When he came in second to Liz Truss in the battle to take control after Johnson, Sunak had correctly warned that her plans to slash taxes on wealthy Britons would result in the fiscal chaos that led to her humiliating exit last week as the shortest-serving UK leader.

That prescient warning and earlier support quickly helped make him an early favorite for the current job. His win had seemed cemented on Sunday when Johnson took his name out of the running. Despite being forced to resign in July amid a series of scandals, Johnson received strong backing from senior Conservative Party leaders, leaving him appearing set for a potential return to power.

However, he is said to have withdrawn after a face-to-face meeting with Sunak, who persuaded him to pull out for the sake of the party, according to numerous UK reports. Johnson returned early from a Caribbean getaway for the contest, but said he was ending his bid because “you can’t govern effectively unless you have a united party in Parliament.” Johnson did, however, hint at a return as he insisted he was “well placed to deliver a Conservative victory” in the next national election, due by 2024. “I believe I have much to offer but I am afraid that this is simply not the right time,” he said Sunday.

The majority of Johnson’s backers switched to Sunak, leaving third-place hopeful Mordaunt, the leader of the House of Commons, far short of the 100 nominations by the ruling party’s lawmakers she needed. The son of middle-class parents of Indian descent who were both born in East Africa, Sunak takes the helm with a daunting set of challenges, including a fractured party and an economic crisis sparked largely by the policies of his predecessor that he tried warning against.

He had insisted he wanted to take control to repair the “breakdown of trust” in politics.”

Donald Trump transferred control of the company after being elected president, and is not personally being prosecuted. (AP)

Jury selection was set to begin Monday in the Manhattan criminal case against the Trump Organization, which is accused of helping its executives dodge taxes on perks like free apartments and cars. The tax fraud case was built after Manhattan prosecutors went to the Supreme Court twice to gain access to former president Donald Trump’s tax records. It is the only criminal trial to stem from those efforts to date.

Trump, 76, isn’t on trial or expected to testify, though he did sign some checks at the center of the case. He has denied any wrongdoing slammed the case as a “political witch hunt.”

It’s expected to take one to two weeks to pick a jury. Defense attorneys and prosecutors will likely look to keep people with strong political opinions out of the jury box, which may prove challenging in Manhattan, where Trump earned just 12% of the vote for president in 2020.

Justice Juan Manuel Merchan expects the trial to last at least four weeks once a jury is seated. If found guilty, the Trump Org. could be fined more than $1 million if convicted and lose leverage in business dealings.

The prosecution’s star witness will likely be longtime Trump. Org. chief financial officer turned government cooperator Allen Weisselberg, who pleaded guilty this summer to accepting $1.7 million under the table from the company in a scheme to defraud the government. The investigation into Trump and his business dealings was inherited by District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who continued to pursue it after two prosecutors handling the case resigned earlier in the year amid doubts about its direction.

The turncoat longtime Trump confidant, who copped to 15 tax evasion felonies, agreed to testify against the company in the coming trial as part of his plea deal. Bragg, who has faced heat from both sides of the aisle over his soft-on-crime policies, had declined to specifically prosecute the ex-president, who transferred ownership of the company to Weisselberg and his oldest children in 2017 after ascending to the White House.

The Trump Org. faces more legal action in Albany, where it — along with Trump, and his kids Eric, Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. — is being sued for $250 million by Attorney General Letitia James for allegedly fraudulently inflating the value of properties.”

  19. Yeah, no thanks – not getting ME on that sucker!!!!

“BOYNE FALLS, Mich. – Just in time for the changing of the leaves, the world’s longest timber-towered suspension bridge is now open to sightseers in northern Michigan. For those willing to ride a chairlift to the mountain top and pay a fee of around $25, the bridge provides breathtaking views of the Boyne Valley. The bridge is only open to foot traffic and spans the length of three football fields between the peaks of McLouth and Disciples Ridge.

Hawaii-based Experiential Resources designed the bridge, which resembles the picturesque SkyBridge in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Two massive timber towers support the walkway, which has a 36-foot pane of glass in the middle, allowing visitors to see the valley below. Operators say the bridge is open year-round, but there are restrictions for when the 1,203-foot-long span is shut down for safety.

SkyBridge Michigan says its team constantly monitors for strong winds, and operations are suspended when gusts reach 35 mph. The risk of thunderstorms with lightning poses a threat, so a weather event that is 15 miles or less from the site will force the shutdown of operations.

The bridge will only be open to foot traffic, as operators say the bridge is open year-round.
    SkyBridge Michigan

Precipitation will not necessarily force the bridge’s closure just as long as walking surfaces remain clear and visibility is adequate. According to Boyne Mountain Resort, winds have already forced the bridge to close a couple of times during its first week of operations.”

  20. October’s solar eclipse may have an impact on peoples sex life around the world. Getty Images

October’s eclipse in dramatic Scorpio promises a wild ride. Unpredictable and erratic, eclipses spark major turning points, and if the eclipse happens to link with a personal placement in your chart, it won’t go unnoticed. And if it happens to trigger your sun, moon or rising sign, you can bet a crossroad, crisis or change with a capital “C” is on the cards.

The solar eclipse will only be a partial eclipse, visible from parts of Europe, western Asia and north Africa in the early hours of October 25. Eclipses inspire random and bizarre events, so it’s wise to avoid important undertakings until the celestial dust settles, typically two weeks on either side of the eclipse. However, if your sign hosts the eclipse, allow an extra week to ensure smooth sailing and a predictable outcome.

What not to do in a solar eclipse–Starting a new job, buying a house, scheduling elective surgery or getting hitched are all bad ideas in an eclipse.

But what if you’ve already signed on the dotted line? While eclipse energy can be challenging to navigate, the cosmos knows what’s in your best interests. This is why problems and conflicts are likely to arise when you have something different in mind than what the eclipse has in store. When that happens, aim to go with the flow. Make your mantra: “I expect the unexpected and trust that the cosmos has my back.” By being flexible with the eclipse’s inevitable twists and turns, you can harness its favourable influence.

New beginnings … Because a solar eclipse occurs during a new moon, the upside can bring brilliant new beginnings and sparkling opportunities. Eclipses plant fated new seeds that later bloom into their full potential alongside weirdly wonderful possibilities that seemingly pop out of the blue. New directions can cause chaos, so you might feel like the rug has been pulled out from under you. Yet that may be exactly what’s needed to push you out of your comfort zone. Put simply, eclipses trigger the change necessary for your personal growth and progress.

What will the solar eclipse in Scorpio bring?

The Scorpio solar eclipse spotlights finances, investments and assets, making money the hot topic in the media and your home. And because Scorpio rules sex and intimacy in astrology, the topics of sexual preference, diversity and consent will be open for discussion. Legal cases involving these topics will also likely grab our attention as we scroll through our social media feeds or watch the nightly news.

Eclipse information for the astronomy buffs — A solar eclipse occurs when the moon blocks the sun’s light from reaching the Earth. The moon gets in between the sun and the Earth, casting a shadow on to the Earth. Solar eclipses coincide with new moons.

A view of a solar eclipse as seen in the sky from Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, June 21, 2020.

They happen twice a year, six months apart, and they always occur in pairs, usually in zodiac opposite signs. Not every solar eclipse is the same. A partial solar eclipse occurs when the moon doesn’t completely cover the sun’s disc. A total solar eclipse happens when the moon fully conceals the sun. For a total solar eclipse to occur, the sun, moon and Earth must be in exact alignment.

An annular eclipse is a total eclipse, but a narrow ring of light around the sun can still be seen because of the moon’s distance. There are three more types of solar eclipses which are rare variations of the main three described above. A total solar eclipse can only be seen from the location where the centre of the moon’s shadow is cast on Earth.

Eclipses are determined by their proximity to the moon’s nodes, which are mathematical points that relate to the moon and Earth’s orbit across the ecliptic (the apparent path of the sun through the constellations). Ultimately, how this eclipse affects you is flavoured by its location in your chart. Find your sun and rising sign below for some pointers on how to best navigate the upcoming Scorpio eclipse.

Pictures of students donning “anti-cheating” hats in the Philippines have gone viral and inspired other colleges to follow suit amid bold claims over their effectiveness. Students at one college in Legazpi City were asked to wear bizarre apparel designed to prevent them peeking at at their classmates’ papers. Many responded by creating homemade contraptions out of cardboard, egg boxes and other recycled things. One lad even made his own goggles using paper tubes. Others donned hats, helmets or Halloween masks.

The teacher behind the idea told the BBC she had been looking for a “fun way” to ensure “integrity and honesty” in her classes. Mary Joy Mandane-Ortiz, a professor of mechanical engineering at Bicol University College of Engineering claimed that her idea had been “really effective.”

She was inspired by a technique reportedly used in Thailand nine years previously. In 2013, an image went viral appearing to show a room of university students in Bangkok taking test papers while wearing “ear flaps” – sheets of paper stuck to either side of their head to block their vision. After asking her students to get creative, Prof Mandane-Ortiz posted pictures of her students wearing the headgear on her social media pages.

They quickly went viral and made the news in the Philippines — where several other colleges have reportedly followed suit in a bid to crack down on cheating. Prof Mandane-Ortiz said her tutees performed better this year, having been motivated by the strict examination conditions to study extra hard. She told the BBC that many of them finished their tests early and — perhaps most importantly — none of them got caught cheating.”

  22. NYPost: “New York’s luxury real estate market continues to soar higher. So what do you get for all those millions? From converted churches to elaborate curving staircases inside supertall skyscrapers, these are a few of the posh property trends behind today’s hautest homes.

Living on a prayer — The lingering work-from-home lifestyle is good news for the owners of converted churches in upstate New York. “Churches make excellent live-work spaces, which are now in high demand,” James Male of House Hudson Valley Realty tells Alexa. He’s listing 73-79 N. Second St. in Hudson, otherwise known as the Hudson Abbey Building — a 1933 church that’s been meticulously transformed by a series of uber-creative owners.

“It was owned by a Chinese artist who shipped over some of his art and motorcycles but never did much with the space,” Male says of the $2.87 million property. “After that, it was owned by a couple who created a chocolate factory in the basement and lived upstairs. The current owner did most of the design work and used it as an event space.”

Holy Rollers: Former upstate New York churches, like the ones at 73-79 N. Second St. in Hudson are being converted to homes. Antony Gravett.

Currently the church, which sits on a bluff overlooking the Hudson, has one bedroom and three bathrooms spread over an incredible 8,000 square feet. The original chapel is now a modern, art-filled living room, with a massive glass barn door and tons of light.

In the neighboring town of Rifton, a church dating back to 1876 at 1883 Route 213 St. has seen an especially stunning transformation. The four-bedroom, four-bathroom, 4,356-square-foot structure, which is currently asking $2.49 million, previously served as a town hall and even the batiment canards for a local duck farm, according to listing agent Angelica Ferguson of Four Seasons Sotheby’s International Realty.

In Rifton, 1883 Route 213 St. is currently asking $2.49 million. Hudson Valley Realty

“The owner made it his dream home and did amazing things, like a complete structural restoration that preserved as much of the original details as possible,” says Ferguson. “All the floors are original, and he repurposed a ton of the salvaged wood from different parts of the building and turned it into staircases and the mantel over the fireplace.”

Those looking to put their own stamp on a property should head just down the road to Rosedale, where a Gothic-style church is on the market at 398 Main St. The three-bedroom, five-bathroom, 7,600-square-foot former Rosendale Reformed Church was originally built in 1896 and has served as the Volunteer Firemen’s Association, a glass studio, an event hall and a gathering place for artists. While it has cozy living quarters, it could also be tricked out into a truly bohemian playpen. It’s asking $1.5 million with Petra Heist of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Nutshell Realty. See you in church.

    Stairway to heaven

Richard Meier designed the modern floating stairs inside this five-bedroom apartment at 176 Perry St., asking $38.9 million. The Corcoran Group.

Stepping up is getting easier in Manhattan’s best buildings. “People appreciate points of architectural interest that make an apartment feel unique,” says Deborah Grubman of Corcoran Group. “A very graceful floating staircase is a perfect example.” Grubman is marketing two luxe properties that feature very different examples of this feat of engineering: the triplex penthouse atop One Madison at 23 E. 22nd St. and the triplex apartment, No. 10S, at 176 Perry St. “They’re both beautiful, and perfectly designed so that they never feel awkward to walk up.”

The curvaceous, wood-clad floating stairs at One Madison were created by renowned residential architect J.L. Ramirez in an almost yacht-like vernacular. It’s the centerpiece of the five-bedroom, six-bathroom, 6,850-square-foot spread, which is asking $58 million.

Meanwhile, the tightly spiraled, all-white, Richard Meier-designed floating stairs on Perry Street seem ripped out of a contemporary art museum. That five-bedroom, five-bathroom, 11,000-square-foot mansion is asking $38.9 million.

But perhaps the biggest, baddest steps out there belong to the biggest, baddest unit on the market. Last month the penthouse of the supertall skyscraper Central Park Tower — which claims to be “the highest residence in the world” — hit the market for a record-breaking $250 million. The sprawling 17,545-square-foot, seven-bedroom, eight-bathroom palace is anchored by a massive floating staircase that undulates up three stories, kissing a landing here and a column there.

The sky-high penthouse at Central Park Tower comes with a gravity-defying staircase — and a $250 million price tag. Evan Joseph.

Created by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the white-oak stairs are surrounded by glass sides and glass windows so that they “glow pink and purple in the sunset and amber yellow in the morning,” notes Loy Carlos of Serhant, who is listing the unit with the firm’s founder Ryan Serhant. “You can put a floating staircase in the middle of any room and rather than an obstruction, it becomes a piece of art that changes from every angle you look at it.”

    Thinking outside the box

Provocative art — and a block-long terrace — make a splash at 1 Sutton Place’s minimalist penthouse, listed for $37.5 million. Richard Caplan.

If you thought white-box luxury was getting mundane, there’s good news: Visionary designers are still creating bold apartments that are truly one of one. Guests arriving at the five-bedroom, six-bathroom penthouse of 1 Sutton Place are greeted by an enormous orange breast sculpture in the foyer. The all-white, symmetrical living room could almost be a lost Stanley Kubrick set. A stunning, otherworldly minimalism compliments art, art and more art throughout the 2,850-square-foot apartment. “The owner is a clothing designer and a true minimalist. She did a lot of the interior design herself,” says Tal Alexander, who is listing the apartment for $37.5 million, noting that it also boasts an outdoor terrace that runs for a full city block.

Marquand Condominium’s triplex penthouse is listing for $33.5 million. Evan Joseph.

Meanwhile, the owners of the triplex perched at the top of the Marquand Condominium at 11 E. 68th St. created an equally distinctive abode using a darker pallet of African Saint Laurent marble — a black marble with lightning strikes of white and tan — as well as brown and black woods offset with pops of white and warm color. There’s even a Fritz Lang “Metropolis”-esque silver robot sculpture in the kitchen. The five-bedroom, four-bathroom, 6,189-square-foot apartment is listed for $33.5 million with Madeline Hult Elghanayan of Douglas Elliman. “The owners did the interior design work and this is their personal masterpiece,” Elghanayan tells Alexa, noting that many of the furnishings are custom and could also be included in the sale. “They were inspired by Peter Marino’s Dior store in Paris. It was raw space when they bought it and it took years to realize.”

Over in Chelsea, along the High Line, the owners of unit No. 4 at 521 W. 23rd St. tapped the award-winning design firm Gabellini Sheppard to turn their blank palette loft space into an airy, streamlined wonderland that flirts with the dividing line between art gallery and residence. You’ll find no tchotchkes here, just clean lines, huge walls, lots of light and stand-out decor. There’s a Swarovski crystal-encrusted Blossom Chandelier designed by Tord Boontje, a Bubinga wood dining table crafted by Miya Shoji, a George Nakashima-designed handwoven wool rug from Nepal and, of course, scads of contemporary art — all included in the $11.5 million sale.

Ernie Goldberg and Darren Kearns of Corcoran have the listings.”

  25. i don’t believe that the cops cannot do a thing about this…couple buys a house–wife drives by it and there is someone moving in who say they have a signed lease. cops called; lease is bogus. cops say it’s a CIVIL dispute and leave.
    entire article
A Prince George’s County couple had just signed a contract with a bank to buy a home when the wife says she drove by the property and saw a U-Haul in the driveway with people moving in.

That was Thursday. Friday, they were there and refusing to leave.

“She panicked a little and called me and said, ‘What is happening here?'” said Melea King who is the realtor for the couple.

Fearing for their own safety, they asked King to speak on their behalf about the people they say are blocking them from moving in to their new home.

“It seems as though someone has totally tried to take possession of the property,” said King.

WUSA9 saw at least two men at the home on Dragoo Place Friday – where signs are posted telling people to stay away one day after the realtor says the men showed up at the house and moved in.

“We have an agreed sign ratified contract with the bank,” said King who showed WUSA9 the couple’s contract with U.S. Bank to purchase what she says was the previously vacant, foreclosed home.

When the new owners confronted the people moving in, King says they showed them what the men said was a lease for the property.

    The couple called the cops.

“Once the police was on site, they took a look at the lease and it was not accurate. It was not correct,” said King.

When WUSA9 tried to talk to the men inside the home they said a man named “Quinn” had the lease for the house. They said he was an uncle, but said they didn’t know his last name and declined to answer more questions.

“Right now my clients are highly upset and we just don’t know what to do at this point,” said King. “It should not be taking this long for this to be addressed.”

Prince George’s County Police confirms one of its officers did go to the house Thursday, but at this point they say it looks more like a “civil matter” for the sheriff.

But, that’s not good enough for the couple. They want answers from the bank about how the people were able to get into this home in the first place.

    1. This is a very big issue and I would love to see this lead to a lawsuit…..one would think it is the bank’s responsibility but the timing of things will be determining factor, IMO. What time did they sign off with the bank and take full ownership? Most contracts say somewhere that effective at that moment in time, the responsibility for maintaining and securing that property shifted to the homeowner. Wonder what the date was on their fake lease?

…Can you imagine, the failed Manhattan District Attorney, Cy Vance (at the time), took Crooked Hillary Clinton’s lawyers, from her and the Democrats Law Firm, Paul Weiss, Rifkind…., and gently placed them into the District Attorney’s Office in order to PROSECUTE “TRUMP.” They have GREAT liability for doing this! It got so bad that various prosecutors quit because they thought that Donald Trump was being treated so badly and unfairly – and it continues. In the end, Justice Must Prevail!
