What Shall We Make Today: Halloween Edition

The best Halloween themed dessert by far is Dirt Cake.  It’s easy to make and lots of fun to be creative with your presentation.

Dirt Cake

1 16-oz package of Oreos (crushed)

¼ cup butter, softened

1 8-oz cream cheese, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

2 pkgs instant vanilla pudding (3.9-oz size)

3 ½ cups milk

12 oz cool whip

Place the Oreos in a Ziploc bag; close.  Using a rolling pin, gently crush the cookies.

In one bowl, cream the butter, the cream cheese and the powdered sugar.

In another (large) bowl, beat the pudding mixes and milk.  Then fold in the whipped cream and make sure the whipped cream is thoroughly incorporated.  Gently mix the butter/cream cheese/powdered sugar mixture into the pudding/milk/whipped cream mixture.

Layer the creamed mixture with the cookie crumbs in a compote dish. Add gummy worms if desired.

OR…

You can use a 13 x 9 dish and create a graveyard. Milano cookies make great headstones.

I am a firm believer in eclipses and that things seem to go “wonky” when they happen.

October 25 is partial solar eclipse.
Nov. 7-8th is total Lunar eclipse.

I will be voting early on the 8th. then come home and just chill…..check the race results here at the Treehouse!

  8. ultra maggot introduces blanket pardons for those convicted of federal marijuana crimes. more vote pandering
    FTA
This past summer, a group of lawmakers including Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., wrote a letter to Biden, Garland and Becerra urging them to deschedule cannabis and issue pardons to all individuals convicted of nonviolent cannabis-related offenses.

Biden, while slower to embrace marijuana reform than many of his Democratic colleagues, pledged on the 2020 campaign trail to decriminalize cannabis use and expunge prior convictions.
MORE: Senate Democrats unveil long-awaited marijuana legalization bill

Senate Democrats this year also finally released their long-awaited marijuana legalization proposal, which would lift the federal prohibition and allow states to determine how they want to regulate marijuana. But the legislation faces an uphill battle in the 50-50 chamber, where 10 Republicans would need to support it, and Senate leadership has yet to announce when the bill will be brought up for a vote.

“Members of Congress have been working on this issue,” Biden administration officials said Thursday. “But that effort has stalled and we’re almost at the end of the Congress. So the president has been considering his options and he’s now taking executive action to address the country’s failed approach to marijuana.”

Republican Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson claimed Biden’s move was to score political points.

“The President, in his announced policy on marijuana, has waived the flag of surrender in the fight to save lives from drug abuse and has adopted all the talking points of the drug legalizers,” Hutchinson said. “Biden is simply playing election-year politics and sacrificing our national interest to win votes.”

    1. I agree with the basic premise but, of course, they are going to take this waaaaay too far such that full-on, major drug dealers will get off. But MJ should be removed from that list and the States should stand up for their rights to legislate the issue within their own borders! States’ Rights, Baby!!!!

      1. some states have already legalized mj. but doesn’t it require congress changing the law???? can he blanket pardon like that? (I really don’t know). it’s like abortion, congress has never made it a federal thing…and they’ve have YEARS to do so…same with mj

        Liked by 1 person

        1. It needs to be de-classified as a Schedule 1 drug – it should be on the same regulatory level as beer, IMO. Now, I am not talking about ANYTHING other than naturally-grown, pure MJ – no additives, not “laced” with any OTHER drugs, etc. You know what I mean, Pat. IDK whether a change in the law would be required in order to move it out of that classification but I haven’t read the whole article yet.

EXCERPT: “The federal government regulates drugs through the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) (21 U.S.C. § 811), which does not recognize the difference between medical and recreational use of marijuana. These laws are generally applied only against persons who possess, cultivate, or distribute large quantities of marijuana.

Under federal law, marijuana is treated like every other controlled substance, such as cocaine and heroin. The federal government places every controlled substance in a schedule, in principle according to its relative potential for abuse and medicinal value. Under the CSA, marijuana is classified as a Schedule I drug, which means that the federal government views marijuana as highly addictive and having no medical value. Doctors may not “prescribe” marijuana for medical use under federal law, though they can “recommend” its use under the First Amendment.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), charged with enforcing federal drug laws, has taken a substantial interest in medical marijuana patients and caregivers in general, and large cultivation and distribution operations more specifically. Over the past few years, dozens of people have been targets of federal enforcement actions. Many of them have either been arrested or had property seized. More than a hundred are currently in prison or are facing charges or ongoing criminal or civil investigations for their cultivation or distribution of medical marijuana.

The DEA, like local enforcement agencies, can choose how to make the best use of its time. Ideally, the DEA will leave medical marijuana patients and their caregivers alone. But federal law does not yet recognize medical marijuana, and the DEA is currently allowed to use the Controlled Substances Act to arrest people for its use. In many pending and past cases, the DEA and U.S. Attorney’s office have used exaggerated plant numbers and inflammatory rhetoric, as well as informants who trade jail time for testimony, to justify enforcing federal laws against medical marijuana patients and caregivers in California and other states.”

        2. More…..

“In United States v. Booker (2005), a Supreme Court decision from January 2005, the court ruled that the federal sentencing guidelines (as outlined above) are advisory and no longer mandatory. However, many federal judges continue to give great deference to the guidelines.”
          ————-
Conflict between State and Federal Law

As of this printing, the federal government claims that marijuana is not medicine and in Gonzales v. Raich (2005), the United States Supreme Court held that the federal government has the constitutional authority to prohibit marijuana for all purposes. Thus, federal law enforcement officials may prosecute medical marijuana patients, even if they grow their own medicine and even if they reside in a state where medical marijuana use is protected under state law. The Court indicated that Congress and the Food and Drug Administration should work to resolve this issue.

The Raich decision does not say that the laws of California (or any other medical marijuana state) are unconstitutional; nor does it invalidate them in any way. Also, it does not say that federal officials must prosecute patients. Decisions about prosecution are still left to the discretion of the federal government.

According to a post-Raich statement by California Attorney General Bill Lockyer, the ruling does not overturn California law permitting the use of medical marijuana. Lockyer also underscored the role of local law enforcement in upholding state, not federal, law. A superior court has rejected the County of San Diego’s claim in a lawsuit filed against the State that California’s medical marijuana laws are preempted by federal law. As of this printing, that case is pending on appeal.

States have recognized marijuana’s medical value and have either passed laws through their legislatures or adopted them by initiative. In support of the numerous states that have taken responsibility for the health and welfare of their people, and have implemented medical marijuana laws, ASA is fighting for states’ ability and right to pass and enforce their own laws, regardless of federal law.”

The Soviets reacted to the United States placing nuclear missiles in Turkey and decided to give the United States a taste of its own medicine. The New York Times is prepping the terrain for another FBI raid of Donald Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago for missing documents that the Department of Justice is apparently seeking.

“A top Justice Department official told former President Donald J. Trump’s lawyers in recent weeks that the department believed he had not returned all the documents he took when he left the White House, according to two people briefed on the matter,” the Times reported on Thursday night.

“The outreach from the official, Jay I. Bratt, who leads the department’s counterintelligence operations, is the most concrete indication yet that investigators remain skeptical that Mr. Trump has been fully cooperative in their efforts to recover documents the former president was supposed to have turned over to the National Archives at the end of his term,” the report added.

  11. GE laying off employees in the wind division…
    FTA
CHICAGO/DENVER, Oct 5 (Reuters) – General Electric Co is laying off workers at its onshore wind unit as part of a plan to restructure and resize the business, which is grappling with weak demand, rising costs and supply-chain delays, four sources familiar with the move said.

The sources said the company on Wednesday notified employees in North America, Latin America, the Middle-East and Africa about the cuts. It also has plans to cut its onshore wind workforce at a later date in Europe and Asia Pacific.

The cuts are expected to affect 20% of the onshore wind unit’s workforce in the United States, they added. This would equate to hundreds of workers, one of the sources said.

GE confirmed to Reuters it was “streamlining” its onshore wind business in response to market realities but did not comment directly on any workforce cuts.

“These are difficult decisions, which do not reflect on our employees’ dedication and hard work but are needed to ensure the business can compete and improve profitability over time,” a GE Renewables spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

Onshore wind is the largest of GE’s renewable businesses, which together employed 38,000 people worldwide at the end of 2021. The unit, however, has been battling higher raw material costs due to inflation and supply-chain pressures.

In the United States, which has been GE’s most profitable onshore wind market, policy uncertainty following the expiry of renewable electricity production tax credits last year has hit customer demand, leading to a fall in the unit’s revenue this year.

    FTA
Records from Fetterman’s four years in office, however, offer a different portrait of his time in the $179,000-a-year elected job. They show Fetterman typically kept a light work schedule and was often absent from state business, including presiding over the state Senate, which is one of his chief duties, according to an Associated Press review of his daily calendars and attendance records.

The review found that Fetterman’s daily schedule was blank during roughly one-third of workdays from January 2019, when he first took office, to May of this year, when he suffered a serious stroke. Even on days where his schedule showed he was active, a typical work day for Fetterman lasted between four and five hours, the records show.

Sharon Osbourne wants her money back.

The former “The Talk” co-host agreed with Kanye West about Black Lives Matter being a “scam” when TMZ asked her about the rapper’s recent antics, from his White Lives Matter shirt to his social media tirades.

“Well, we gave $900,000 to [Black Lives Matter], and I’d like my money back, please,” she told a reporter.

Osbourne, 69, did not specify why she wanted a refund, but she did express confusion surrounding the outrage over West’s headline-making shirt at his fashion show.

“I don’t understand why white lives don’t matter. I don’t understand it. It’s not my culture,” she said. “Everybody matters, don’t they?”

Osbourne also said West, 45, shouldn’t be canceled over his actions and instead encouraged people to ignore him if they don’t “like him.”

  14. Entire Article @ JustTheNews: (NF: This is a start, at least…..more states need to do the same.)

“The Delaware Supreme Court on Friday that a state law enacting universal mail-in voting violated the state’s constitution. “The Vote-by-Mail Statute impermissibly expands the categories of absentee voters identified in Article V, Section 4A of the Delaware Constitution. Therefore, the judgment of the Court of Chancery that the Vote-by-Mail Statute violates the Delaware Constitution should be affirmed,” the court wrote.

It further rejected a component of the law that would have created same day registration throughout the state.

“The Same-Day Registration Statute conflicts with the provisions of Article V, Section 4 of the Delaware Constitution,” it continued, “Consequently, the judgment of the Court of Chancery that the Same-Day Registration Statute does not violate the Delaware Constitution should be reversed.”

The court asserted that the three-page ruling would precede a “more formal opinion” but highlighted the state’s plan to mail ballots to voters by Oct. 10 as rationale for the “abbreviated order.” While absentee voting is constitutional in Delaware, per the Epoch Times, anyone seeking such an accommodation must be under to reach their polling place, due to reasons such as illness or disability.

Friday’s ruling is a blow to Democrats who have sought to make permanent COVID-19 era adjustments to the absentee voting process in a plethora of states. “

  16. judicial watch sues for FOIA records on why Byrd was housed at Joint Andrews Base…
    FTA
Judicial Watch filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia after Joint Base Andrews, the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department, and the FBI failed to respond to three July 2022 FOIA requests about Byrd’s housing at Joint Base Andrews while his name as the shooter of Ashli Babbitt was being withheld from the public by the government.

In its complaint, Judicial Watch explained to the court that it had asked all three government agencies for all records relating to the billeting of Byrd at Joint Base Andrews during the period from January 6, 2021, to July 2022, including authorization papers, housing, meals, transportation, and visitor logs.

“This is a rather extraordinary January 6 cover-up of why the Defense Department was involved with the aftermath of the improper police killing of an unarmed woman (and a veteran),” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

In June 2022, Judicial Watch produced DOJ records related to the shooting of Babbitt that included a memo recommending “that the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia decline for criminal prosecution the fatal shooting of Ashli McEntee [Babbitt],” also noting that the shooter, Byrd, “did not create a police report or documents” related to the shooting of Babbitt. A footnote details missing evidence: “During the debrief of Lieutenant Byrd, he did recall writing a few sentences on an evidence bag the evening of January 6, 2021, at the request of a crime scene officer. To date, the bag has not been located by USCP or MPD.”

In November 2021, Judicial Watch received multiple audio, visual and photo records from the DC Metropolitan Police Department about the shooting death of Ashli Babbitt on January 6, 2021, in the U.S. Capitol Building. The records include a cell phone video of the shooting. An audio file of a police interview of the shooter, Byrd, indicates he declined to cooperate.

Judicial Watch previously uncovered records from the DC Metropolitan Police showed that multiple officers claimed they didn’t see a weapon in Babbitt’s hand before Byrd shot her, and that Byrd was visibly distraught afterward. One officer attested that he didn’t recall hearing any verbal commands before Byrd shot Babbitt. The records include internal communications about Byrd’s case and a crime scene examination report. Investigators who wrote the January 6, 2021, Metro PD Death Report for Babbitt (identified as Ashli Elizabeth McEntee-Babbitt Pamatian) note that the possible Manner of Death was “Homicide (Police Involved Shooting).”
