Most likely, oak trees evolved in North America, Europe, and Asia between 40 million and 60 million years ago.

There are about 600 existing species of oak trees.

On average, oak trees live about 200 years, but some can live over 1,000 years.

The Pechanga Great Oak Tree is the oldest oak tree in the United States and maybe even in the world. It is thought to be nearly 2,000 years old.

On average, oak trees reach between 50–70 feet in height.  They can have a spread nearly 150 feet from branch to branch.

During the tragic 2019 Notre Dame fire, the cathedral’s oak frame was destroyed. The oak beams were made from trees cut down between 1160 and 1170 AD and form one of the oldest parts of the cathedral. The cathedral’s structure contained about 13,000 trees in total.

One oak tree produces nearly 2,000 acorns every year. However, only one in 10,000 acorns will become a full-grown oak tree.

In 2019, French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron gifted an oak “friendship tree” to Donald Trump; however, the tree died while in quarantine.

If eaten in large quantities, oak leaves and acorns are toxic to livestock, including cattle, horses, goats, and sheep. The tannic acid in the leaves and acorns can cause kidney damage and gastroenteritis. Only pigs seem to be immune.

Raw acorns contain tannins, which have a bitter taste and can be toxic to humans. However, leaching (soaking or boiling) the tannins makes the acorns safe to eat.

Acorns are an important part of many animals’ diets, including birds, small mammals, and larger mammals such as pigs, bears, and deer.

According to Norse legend, the god Thor took shelter under an oak tree, which has led to the belief that an acorn on a windowsill will protect against lightning strikes.

Acorns are nutritious and contain large amounts of protein, carbs, fats, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and niacin.

Because acorns are rich in fat, acorn flour can spoil or get moldy quickly.

Because acorns only ripen on adult oak trees, they are often a symbol of patience and endurance.

Koreans make edible acorn jelly called dotorimuk.[

Druids ate acorns, believing that they had prophetic qualities. In fact, the word “druid” comes from the Celtic word for acorn.

In some cultures, because an acorn is a “baby tree,” it is believed that wearing one around your neck will prevent premature aging.

In North America, there are about 90 species of oak trees. All oak trees have acorns.

An oak tree produces about 10 million acorns during its lifetime.

In Harper Lee’s iconic novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, the oak tree outside of Boo Radley’s house is a symbol for friendship and the way kindness can thrive despite difficult circumstances.

The National Geographic Society designated The Emancipation Oak in Virginia as one of the most important trees in the world. In the 1860s, Mary Smith Peake broke the law when she taught African American adults and children how to read under the oaks’ branches.

The national tree of America is the oak tree.

There are nearly 600 species of oak trees. They all fall into two categories: white oaks or red oaks. White oaks have rounded lobe leaves, while red oaks have pointed lobe leaves.

Oak trees can either be deciduous or evergreen. Oak trees are more often evergreens in warmer climates with mild winters.

    dang cold out there this morning…about 45*!
    we won’t have acorns this year on a whole lotta oaks in our woods…the gypsy moth caterpillars stripped the oak and fruit trees in early spring. the leaves have recovered, but no fruit on the apple trees here or in the neighbor’s yard. and no acorns…gonna be a lean fall for the deer and the bear.

They have, or control, 100% of the material necessary to make the BATTERY – We have nothing, but we have the “gasoline,” & they don’t. Electric cars are much more expensive, both to buy and to run, will NEVER go nearly as far, & will have very little overall impact on the environment. This is almost as “dumb” as the U.S. Border Policy. LET MARKET DECIDE!

    I’m glad she acknowledged that any release of this super ultra mega sensitive material has been done by the FBI in the form of leaks to the media.

    there has been no actual suggestion by the Government of any identifiable emergency or imminent disclosure of classified information arising from Plaintiff’s allegedly unlawful retention of the seized property. Instead, and unfortunately, the unwarranted disclosures that float in the background have been leaks to the media after the underlying seizure [see ECFNo. 64 pp.9–11 n.11].

    “According to the survey, they do not wish, however, to return home permanently,” reports Remix News. “When asked whether they plan to permanently return to their country of birth in the future, just 2 percent say they do, while 16 percent say maybe — 81 percent of those who arrived in Sweden from non-European countries say they do not, primarily because they believe Sweden to be a better country to raise their children.”

    The migrants are able to slip in and out of Sweden because there is no punishment for doing so, unlike in countries like Switzerland and Germany, where refugees who return to their home countries without permission face losing their asylum status.

    “If someone, a Syrian refugee, regularly vacations in Syria, he cannot honestly claim to be persecuted in Syria,” said then-German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer in 2019.

The group say that the plan would have a “detrimental” effect on the environment.

    In the letter, House Natural Resources Chairman Raul Grijalva and others warn Democratic leaders as they try to fulfill a promise made this summer to Sen. Joe Manchin to address the issue: don’t force us into a stalemate. “We urge you to ensure that these provisions are kept out of a continuing resolution or any other must-pass legislation this year,” wrote by the group in the letter, which has been in preparation for weeks. They said that the decision would require members to make a choice between “protecting the communities from further pollution or funding the government.”

    Raúl Grijalva, a House Natural Resources Committee Chairman and Arizona Democrat who spearheaded the letter, said, “In the face of the existential threats like climate change and MAGA extremism, House and Senate leadership has a greater responsibility than ever to avoid risking a government shutdown by jamming divisive policy riders into a must-pass continuing resolution. Permitting reform hurts already-overburdened communities, puts polluters on an even faster track, and divides the caucus.”

    The signatories included progressive lawmakers, such as Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York. It also includes the allies of the leadership such as Representatives Joe Neguse of Colorado and Debbie Dingell of Michigan, whom Pelosi appointed as chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, said Fox News.

    By the end of September, Manchin and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer agreed to streamline the approval process for oil and gas drilling permits. As a result of the commitment, Manchin agreed to support a $739 billion climate change and tax package from the White House. In his statement, Schumer, D-NY, said he would attach the permitting legislation to the government funding bill which must pass by Sept. 30 to prevent a shutdown.

    However, Democrats say the decision comes with risks, and although they don’t announce a specific threat to block government funding, some of those in the letter say they won’t rule it out in case of disagreement. The lawmakers wrote, “Such a move would force Members to choose between protecting [environmental justice] communities from further pollution or funding the government.”

    It has long been argued by progressive Democrats that Manchin’s deal was with Schumer, not them. “Manchin went back on his word to get [Build Back Better] done, and we owe him nothing now,” said Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich. “We will be united in defeating the separate Manchin ‘permitting reforms’ that will accelerate climate change and pollute Black, brown, Indigenous and low-income communities.”

    Environmental agencies would be required to review proposed projects by specified deadlines in the draft permitting legislation, which has not yet been released. Nevertheless, Manchin’s greatest prize is a provision in the expected bill that would enable the construction of a 300-plus mile natural gas pipeline through Virginia and West Virginia.”

    Everything that’s not EeeeeeeeVeeee gets harder and harder to get through the regulatory gantlet. The outright ban on the sale of new vehicles that aren’t EeeeeeeeVeeeeees – as in CA and most recently NY – thus becomes a kind of mopping up operation.

    Similar tactics are being deployed against old cars, as in Nevada – where a bill is afoot that would effectively eliminate classic car registrations – and thereby, the ability to keep a classic car as anything other than a display piece.

    Instead of the usual 20-years-old (in some states it is 25 years old) the qualification for “classic” carhood rises to 40 years old. The purpose of that being to make it much more difficult for people to avoid having to register their old car – or truck – the same as a brand-new or recent-vintage car or truck. And be obliged to jump through the same hoops – and pay the same fees.

    Including – of course – successful passage of “emissions testing” as a condition of registration. Traditionally, classic (and “antique”) cars registered as such are exempt from “emissions testing.” This saves their owners the hassle – as well as the money – that attends having to pass “smog check” as a condition of being granted registration (which isn’t granted, actually; rather it is another thing people are forced to pay for in order to be allowed to legally use their vehicles).

    It’s a kind of vehicular grandfathering based on the fact that many classic cars were built before there were emissions controls and for that reason, testing them would be like expecting stairs to pass a test designed for elevators.”

    According to the Daily Wire, the drama began when Media Matters’s Jason Campbell thought he had a “gotcha” moment when he shared a clip of Walsh calling the new Ariel’s black skin “unscientific.”

    “From a scientific perspective, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to have someone with darker skin who lives deep in the ocean,” said Walsh. “I mean if anything, not only should the little mermaid be pale, she should also be translucent.”

    This was followed by Walsh describing deep sea wildlife as horrific looking and translucent, saying that he’d watch the new movie if you could see Ariel’s skull through her head. He was clearly joking, but the left is the left and humor is something it has a hard time wrapping its head around.

    Media Matters and other leftist news sites reached out to Walsh about his comments about translucent skin, and naturally, Walsh ran with it to create an entire movement around translucent-skinned people. “I’m actually being accused of harboring racial favoritism for translucent people,” said Walsh. “I love it. This is great.”

    The Daily Wire reported that one of the outlets that reached out to Walsh was GRV Media to which Walsh responded that he’s always been an advocate for the translucent: ‘When asked for a comment from GRV Media on his recent remarks about mermaids, Walsh kept up the act, writing in part that he’s “long been an advocate for the rights of translucent people.”

    “I believe it is time we start giving these casting opportunities to this marginalized community. Translucent rights are human rights. Please include this entire statement in your report,” Walsh replied to the request.’

    Newsweek, always up for calling someone a racist, acknowledged that they know Walsh is joking but made it clear he was a racist anyway. Yours truly even got in on the act.

    The whole thing really shows you that the left takes racial politics so seriously that they can’t even laugh along with a simple joke. They see the obvious political move of making Ariel black worth defending at all costs and can’t even have people making light of it.

    Sad way to be. It’d be a shame if more people started showing their support for translucent people’s rights and really got them upset.”

    Pennsylvania Democrat Senate candidate John Fetterman claims to have taken a cognitive test but has not provided documentation of his results to the media.

    An article from the Inquirer explains that Fetterman’s campaign claims that the candidate for the United States Senate in Pennsylvania has taken a cognitive test, the results of which allegedly reveal that his brain is functioning normally for an adult of his age.

    The Philadelphia Inquirer did not, however, receive any documentation of the results of his cognitive test. Nor did they inform the media who administered and scored the test.

    The article explains that the Fetterman campaign “did not provide any documentation of the results, or make available to the media the speech therapist who administered the tests.” The cognitive assessment of the Democrat candidate comes after he suffered from a stroke in May.

    The issue of Fetterman’s health has come to the forefront of the race as the candidate has had difficulty delivering speeches.

    The decision to take a cognitive test came shortly after John Fetterman agreed to debate Republican Senate candidate Mehmet Oz.

    Fetterman remarked in a statement “We’re absolutely going to debate Dr. Oz,” going on to say “It has simply only ever been about addressing some of the lingering issues of my stroke, the auditory processing and we’re going to be able to work that out.”

    The Oz campaign recently called the legitimacy of Fetterman’s cognitive test results into question.     “They didn’t provide the copies of the scores or medical records,” he said, before going on to remark, “They won’t provide media access to Fetterman’s doctor.”

    German news agency dpa reported Friday that officials in Goettingen had initially permitted topless bathing on weekends after a person who identified as neither male nor female objected to being told to cover up last year.

    Dpa quoted a town spokesperson saying that “the overwhelming majority” of swimmers approved of the measure and following a council vote it would now apply throughout the week.

    A court in Berlin this week separately rejected a discrimination lawsuit filed by a woman who was told by officials to cover her breasts at an open-air water playground in the capital, while men were not asked to do so. The ruling can be appealed.
