What Shall We Bake Today?

Today’s recipe is one of my favorite Fall recipes—Pumpkin Bread!  The recipe says you can make 2 9-inch loaves or 3 8-inch loaves.  I normally make 1 8-inch loaf and then several mini loaves to share.  This bread freezes wonderfully!!

Pumpkin Bread

2/3 cup shortening

2 2/3 cups sugar

4 eggs

1 can (1 pound) pumpkin

2/3 cup water

3 1/3 cups flour

2 teaspoons baking soda

1 ½ teaspoons salt

½ teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon cloves

2/3 cup chopped nuts (I use walnuts)

2/3 cup plumped raisins

Heat oven to 350*.  Spray 2 9-inch loaf pans or 3 8-inch loaf pans with baking spray.  In a large bowl, cream the shortening with the sugar until fluffy.  Stir in the eggs, pumpkin and the water.  Blend in the flour, baking soda, salt, baking powder, cinnamon and cloves.  Stir in the nuts and raisins.  Pour into pans.  Bake about 70 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.  Enjoy!

Note: if you use the mini loaf pans, your baking time will be less.  I check mine at 40 minutes and go from there.

    1. Good morning! Clear and chilly here – 47 this morning. I saw the one female again yesterday – Jake was sitting on the window sill and couldn’t figure out where that humming sound was coming from. He never did figure it out! Sometimes, I think his vision might be off a little bit.

        that’s chilly!! for September, no?
        poor Jake…lol
these last few hummers are not nearly as aggressive or verbal–they fly at the chains in the morning to let me know they’re awake…lol…but they don’t chitter at me constantly as i hang the feeders out–nor do they fly at my head

  1. this is an interesting read by some dude…
it’s his take on the dismissal of the rico lawsuit against hitlery et al.
He suggests the purpose of the lawsuit was to allow his attorneys to see the classified documents in order to formulate the case. they are allowed to view the documents to advise him and to defend his position. the thing that stuck out to SD when he read the lawsuit was the lack of citations and supporting documents–so he thinks it was less about that and more about giving the attorneys access to those documents without triggering obstruction charges.
at least that’s what I’m getting out of it. i recommend reading it.

World leaders to travel to Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral by bus with state cars banned

QUEEN ELIZABETH II’s funeral will see foreign heads of state travel from all over the world – But those making the journey have been banned from using helicopters.

However, foreign heads of state and their spouses heading to London for the state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II have been asked to use commercial flights.

They have also been told they cannot use their own state cars and will instead be bussed en masse from a site in west London.
Documents from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) also say only the heads of state and their spouses or partners from each country have been invited to attend the funeral.

In the official protocol message regarding the funeral, the FCDO said Westminster Abbey will be so full it will be impossible for more than one senior representative per country and their other half to attend.

What about all the Chinese spies and other foreign threats within our borders? Who will keep track of all of them? Well, maybe the federal government should refrain from filling its ranks with foreign agent-saboteurs and consider shutting down the Southern border once and for all — you know, the kind of commonsense actions that ordinary Americans would have taken long ago, if not for the vexingly anti-American policies bubbling up from the D.C. Swamp. Who will pre-emptively read through Americans’ email, text, and phone call “metadata” in search of “threats” that may or may not exist? Twenty years after the post-9/11 PATRIOT Act architecture redefined Americans’ constitutional rights without amendment ratification or public permission, perhaps it is time for Americans to insist that federal officers once again deign to establish probable cause and execute valid warrants before they go snooping where they have not been invited. Maybe it is time for citizens to recognize that with their silence and compliance, they have handed away a mountain’s worth of personal liberty for an anthill’s hollow promise that they would remain secure. Any way you slice it, nothing about the expansive, entrenched, and cumbersome national security Deep State that exists today is remotely conducive to Americans’ constitutional rights or personal liberties.

    snip

Whatever the FBI’s past successes, it poses entirely too much of a threat to both Americans’ liberty and security. Given its highly political and suspect activities during the last decade and longer, those threats are no longer theoretical. Without the FBI wasting law enforcement resources pursuing politically explosive yet highly questionable arrests near every election season, perhaps crime rates would actually drop. Certainly Chris Wray’s agents would no longer need to organize fake kidnapping attempts or set up fake terrorist attacks as part of the FIBbers’ relentless efforts to inflate their own “domestic extremism” numbers! Without a doubt, many parents attending local school board meetings and conservative political protesters exercising constitutional rights would sleep better knowing that the strong-arm of the lawless won’t be breaking down their doors in the middle of the night under the color of legal authority! Maybe President Trump could even run for re-election again without having to defend against the Obama-Biden Gestapo constantly working to indict him or his supporters for daring to confront Deep State hegemony! Or does “democracy” survive only in the imposed darkness of FBI raids, home invasions, illegal general warrants, property confiscations, intimidation, and forced compliance?

A teacher in El Paso, Texas, is on administrative leave and facing termination after she told students to call pedophiles “minor attracted persons” in an incident that was captured on video and shared on social media, according to the city’s school district.

In an 18-second clip, the Franklin High School teacher can be heard telling students to “stop calling them that. You’re not allowed to label people like that.”

“We’re not gonna call them that,” the teacher is heard saying in the video. “We’re gonna call them MAPs, minor attracted persons. So don’t judge people just because they wanna have sex with a 5-year-old.”

Think about it – from an early childhood of benign (and sometimes NOT so benign) neglect, never knowing where I would be living from one day to the next, with siblings and almost complete freedom, to being an only child with every single second of my day being watched closely, strictly controlled and constantly being “instructed” in how to be a “lady.” And always reminded of how lucky I was…..how grateful I should be….while I ached a little more inside every day from missing my sister and brother. Emotionally, it was pure hell!

  9. EXCERPT: “THE SO-CALLED Fab Four’s walkabout in Windsor yesterday only took place after “extended negotiations behind the scenes”, it has been claimed.

The Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped out on Saturday to view floral tributes and greet well-wishers outside Windsor Castle in a show of unity following the late Queen’s death. William is said to have made an “11th-hour” invitation to Harry and Meghan to join him and Kate.

But the two couple’s arrival was delayed by around 45 minutes as the walkabout “required extended negotiations behind the scenes beforehand”, The Times reports. Prince William, Kate, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle delighted well-wishers with their public appearance together.

The crowd broke out into applause as the Waleses and the Sussexes approached. Nicola Standen, 44, from Essex, who was at Windsor Castle, said the late Queen would be proud of her grandsons for coming together. Mrs Standen said: “That’s probably what she ultimately wanted. Nobody wants any upset in their family and you have to support each other at this time. I’m sure she’s looking down and is very proud of the brothers together. They’ve had such grief themselves so it’s good that they can support each other.”

Royal well-wisher Beverley Hole, from Buckinghamshire, said the brothers and their wives appearing together was “very symbolic”, adding: “It might build some bridges. It might have been the Queen’s wish.”
    ————
A royal source said: “The Prince of Wales thought it was an important show of unity at an incredibly difficult time for the family.”

Reacting to the surprise walkabout, royal author Robert Jobson said: “I am so pleased the William, Prince of Wales reached out to his brother Harry so they could put on a united front at this difficult time of family grief. A typically magnanimous move by William in memory of our late Queen.”

  10. EXCERPT: “Mr Wootton remarked that the gesture showed why William “will one day be a great King”. The GB News host said: “It was quite a moment. But of course, it doesn’t change the fundamentals. Harry is still intending to release his memoir that could include criticism of the new King. But, what today’s act of kindness from William shows is that this new reign will not engage in a tit-for-tat with the Sussexes.

“The ball is now firmly in the court of the Sussexes, as William waits to see if they will put the Royal Family above their personal vendettas after his olive branch.”

ITV’s Royal Editor Chris Ship echoed the point that the surprise walkabout did not mean Harry and William’s rift was mended. He said: “This was a last-minute decision taken by the new Prince of Wales on Saturday afternoon. He did it for his grandmother and for his father.”

  11. what now? September 24th is gonna be a day that we will remember?
    FTA
What in the world are they planning to do on September 24th, 2022? As you will see below, a member of the German legislature is openly warning that September 24th will be a day when everyone will remember “exactly where he or she was”. Needless to say, those days don’t come along very often. For those that were alive at the time, the death of John F. Kennedy was one of those days. And certainly 9/11 was one of those days. But off the top of my head I can’t really think of too many others. I can remember what I was doing when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine earlier this year was definitely a major turning point. Beyond that, there just aren’t too many days that fall into this category.

That is why something that a member of the German parliament just said seems so odd…

“Everyone will not forget September 24, 2022 and everyone will know exactly where he or she was”

    Why?

Why does he believe that September 24th will be so historic?

Video of this clip has been going viral on social media, and you can watch it for yourself right here.

“Queen Elizabeth II, who reigned for 70 years, passed away peacefully at her Scottish residence of Balmoral at the age of 96. Following the monarch’s death, the royal beekeeper carried out an arcane tradition which is said to date back centuries by informing the hives kept in Buckingham Palace and Clarence House about the Queen’s death.

He also informed the bees, in hushed tones, that their new master is King Charles III.

John Chapple, 79, even placed black ribbons on the hives as he travelled to Buckingham Palace and Clarence House on Friday following news of the Queen’s death. The unusual tradition comes from an old superstition which suggests not telling them about the change could lead the bees to produce less honey.

Mr Chapple told MailOnline: “It is traditional when someone dies that you go to the hives and say a little prayer and put a black ribbon on the hive. “You knock on each hive and say, ‘The mistress is dead, but don’t you go. Your master will be a good master to you.”

He added: “I’m retired. I’m 79. It’s my hobby, beekeeping and now I look after a few hives for important people. “Number one is the Queen, or rather was, the Queen. I was the Queen’s beekeeper and hopefully now I’ll get the job of being the King’s beekeeper. I hope they still want to keep the bees on their premises.

“You never know. They might say, take them away but I don’t think that will happening though really you do never know.”

  14. America First Legal suing the National Archives for refusing to release records pertaining to ultra maggot’s correspondence while VP…with hunter and his brother…
    FTA
Yesterday, America First Legal (AFL) sued the National Archives and Records Administration for its refusal to release Joe Biden’s Vice Presidential records. The records in question include:

    All communications by Vice-President Biden with his son Hunter and his brother James;
    Official government travel by Hunter and James and their visits to the White House;
Other records further exposing Joe Biden’s involvement in his family’s corrupt foreign business deals.

    snip

The National Archives denied AFL’s request for prompt processing on the pretext that the public does not urgently need them, and, incredibly, on the grounds that there is no widespread and exceptional media interest in these matters.
“The National Archives is engaged in an illegal scheme to conceal federal records pertaining to the radical corruption of President Biden, Hunter Biden, and James Biden. America First Legal is therefore compelled to sue the National Archives for its illegal and indefensible conduct. NARA has revealed itself to be an integral part of the treacherous deep state seeking to capsize our Democracy and to impose the will of bureaucrats over the laws and Constitution of the United States. At the same time as the Archives illegally shields Joe Biden’s financial and political corruption, it has hatched an illegal intelligence plot with DOJ to persecute our 45th President by claiming to apply to him statutes from which he is constitutionally immune based on bogus allegations which are as wickedly false as the Russia Hoax and all the hoaxes which followed it. America First Legal’s lawsuit is but the beginning of the campaign which must be undertaken to stop the Archives imperial misconduct and restore them to their subordinate position within our proper design as a Constitutional Republic,” said Stephen Miller.

“LONDON — In his first official royal decree, King Charles has replaced Meghan and Harry in the line of succession with two of the late Queen’s corgis.

“Fluffy here shall immediately assume the title of Duke,” said Charles, presenting the corgi with a scepter. “There now! Who’s a good future King of England?”

The nation of England erupted into celebration upon hearing the news. “After the sadness of the past week, it feels good to have something to be happy about,” said citizen Gerald Funderburk. “The thought of the monarchy falling into the hands of Harry or Meghan, those blithering idiots…we can all rest a little easier tonight knowing the kingdom will be in good hands. Or paws.”

Although the King’s move is unusual, historians say it is not without precedent. “Few people recall that Henry the Eighth actually made his pet goat sixth in line for the throne,” said history professor Benjamin York. “He had so many wives and children that he lost count of how to list them. He was also very, very fond of his goat Alfred.”

At publishing time, Meghan Markle had responded with her daily tradition of calling everyone in her family racist.”

    1. CHARLOTTE, NC — Local housewife Shawna Coleman worked diligently all afternoon cleaning every baseboard in the house, intent that her home would look tidy if the FBI dropped in for a raid.

“I would be so humiliated if special agents searched my home and found it full of dust,” said Mrs. Coleman. “And what if they published pictures of my floors in the Washington Post? I better run the vacuum again.”

Having once attended a school board meeting, Mrs. Coleman figures a raid on her home is only a matter of time. “I have started setting out cookies at night as well. I’m sure they’ll be hungry after all their raiding!” said Mrs. Coleman. “It all started with liking this Facebook post about how schools needed to re-open during the COVID lockdowns. I wound up going to a school board meeting and next thing you know, there are three unmarked vans on my street and every guy on the block is wearing a Lacoste shirt and Ray-Bans. So, I’m trying to get the house all fixed up before they come in.”

Despite his protests, Mr. Coleman has again been roped into helping clean the baseboards. “Why? Why the baseboards? Every dang time someone comes over,” grumbled Mr. Coleman as he worked. “At least this time, there’s some chance the people coming over will be looking in the upstairs closet. Soon as this raid is over, I’m designing walls and floors that don’t have baseboards. What woman started this neurotic obsession with baseboards? Some mother-in-law looking to annoy a happy couple, no doubt.”

At publishing time, the FBI agents reported that the cookies were delicious and repeatedly expressed to Mrs. Coleman that it was the nicest home they had ever ransacked.

“Matthew was moving um, way fast, on his legs.” said disc golf aficionado Steve Porter. “I don’t think he knows all the, uh, unwritten rules yet. Hey Matt! Are you cool to drive?”

Mr. King had always enjoyed tossing a frisbee, but had never quite understood the draw of disc golf. “I just didn’t know what was so great about chasing your own frisbee, but some of my buddies at work were raving about it,” said Mr. King. “So I got a couple of discs and went to a course to try it out. I don’t know what kind of fertilizer they use, but the course had a really unique smell! All the other disc golfers were super friendly. Very chill atmosphere.”

Mr. Porter said he noted Mr. King was an obvious first-timer from the moment he began. “You can always pick out the newbies,” said Mr. Porter. “They don’t carry folding chairs for smoke breaks, and they actually keep track of their strokes. Plus, he was drinking water. Total bush-league.”

At publishing time, Mr. King had decided to try rock climbing, and found it very odd that he once again smelled that same fertilizer near the bouldering wall.

    3. LONDON — Trade representatives in the United Kingdom were surprised to learn that the offer made by the United States to trade President Joe Biden for Queen Elizabeth II still stands, even after the Queen passed away yesterday at the age of 96.

“We just assumed that the offer was only valid as long as Her Majesty was still living,” said Sir David Cathcart, the recently appointed Minister of Human Trades for the British government. “The offer was initially taken into consideration quite seriously due to Mr. Biden being significantly younger than the Queen, but after doing our research, it became evident that his mental capabilities had degraded to a rather absurd level.”

Officials on the U.S. side of the trade proposal expressed hopefulness that the British would still be willing to consider the trade despite the longtime monarch’s death. “It’s got to be an even more tempting trade to make now, right?” asked Dr. Nate Thomas, a high-ranking member of the U.S. People Swapping Bureau. “I mean, come on, he’s still alive, so that has to count for something. I’m not saying you can trust him to make any decisions or provide strong leadership of any kind, but he’s still got a pulse. That’s a good deal, right? Right?! Come on, just take him. Please?”

The U.S. government was reportedly prepared to sweeten the deal by including congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and actor Alec Baldwin in the trade, but this seemed to only scare the British off even more.

At publishing time, word out of Great Britain indicated the answer was still no. “I’m afraid not,” Sir Cathcart said. “Given the choice between a living Joe Biden and a deceased Queen Elizabeth, we will stick with what we have and be better off.”

    FTA
“This investigation of the 45th President of the United States is both unprecedented and misguided,” Trump’s lawyers said in the filing. “In what at its core is a document storage dispute that has spiraled out of control, the Government wrongfully seeks to criminalize the possession by the 45th President of his own Presidential and personal records.”

Trump’s legal team added that the court’s order “is a sensible preliminary step towards restoring order from chaos.”

“The Government should therefore not be permitted to skip the process and proceed straight to a preordained conclusion,” they wrote.
Former President Donald Trump in New York City following the FBI raid at his Mar-a-Lago home.

In the judge’s initial order for the appointment of a special master, Cannon ruled that the special master would be responsible to review the seized property for “personal items and documents and potentially privileged material subject to claims of attorney-client and/or executive privilege.”

Cannon, though, said the order “shall not impede the classification review and/or intelligence assessment by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (“ODNI”) as described in the Government’s Notice of Receipt of Preliminary Order.”

Trump’s legal team argued that the Justice Department has “misinterpreted” the order, and said there is “no indication any purported ‘classified records’ were disclosed to anyone.”

“Indeed, it appears such ‘classified records,’ along with the other seized materials, were principally located in storage boxes in a locked room at Mar-a-Lago, a secure, controlled access compound utilized regularly to conduct the official business of the United States during the Trump Presidency, which to this day is monitored by the United States Secret Service,” Trump’s lawyers said.

They went on to argue that the Presidential Records Act (PRA) gives any president “extraordinary discretion to categorize all his or her records as either Presidential or personal records, and established case law provides for very limited judicial oversight over such categorization.”

“The PRA further contains no provision authorizing or allowing for any criminal enforcement,” Trump’s lawyers wrote, adding that the law, instead, “disputes regarding the disposition of any Presidential record are to be resolved between such President and the National Archives and Records Administration (“NARA”).”

Trump’s legal team argued that the government “at best” may be able to establish that certain presidential records “should be returned to NARA.”

“What is clear regarding all of the seized materials is that they belong with either President Trump (as his personal property to be returned pursuant to Rule 41(g)) or with NARA, but not with the Department of Justice,” his lawyers wrote.

“President Trump clearly has an individual interest in and need for the seized property,” they continued. “The record reflects the material seized from President Trump’s home includes not just ‘personal effects without evidentiary value’ but also approximately five hundred pages of material that is likely subject to attorney-client privilege, as well as medical documents, and tax and accounting information.”

The voters of Arizona have looked forward to seeing the Democratic party and the GOP candidates debate each other since they started their campaigns. Though that has not happened, the people still hope to see the debates before the gubernatorial elections in November.

The democratic candidate Katie Hobbs proposed to have a town hall-style event instead of the regular debates the voters want to see. The town hall-style event will have each candidate answer questions separately for 30 minutes. However, the Citizens Clean Elections Commission rejected her proposal.

Commissioner Mark Kimble said, “We have a format that we have used for a number of years that has been successful, that has given the voters of Arizona the opportunity to compare and contrast the candidates face to face. It’s incumbent on us to say enough. This is the format that we have set up.”

Moving on, the CCEC gave Hobbs a seven-day deadline to agree to have the debate the usual way. The Republican candidate, Kari Lake, has already agreed to this, while Hobbs has not responded.

If Hobbs refuses to have this debate under the general framework, Lake will be interviewed on Live television for 30 minutes.

Hobb’s campaign manager Nicole DeMont sent a letter to the CCEC last week. According to the letter, Hobbs refused to have this regular debate with her opponent, who is already leading her in the polls. She claimed she does not want a repeat of the Republican primary election, which was held in June. According to the letter, that debate made Arizona a subject of national ridicule.

The letter said, “In the GOP primary debate, instead of talking about how she plans to move our state forward, Kari Lake brought almost every single answer back to lies about an election that happened almost two years ago. Arizonans are tired of partisan conspiracies about the 2020 election. Voters want solutions and a governor with real plans to drive our state forward for everyone.”

Following Hobb’s unwillingness to debate Lake, the republican candidate has asserted that Hobbs lacks confidence in her debating skills. Hobbs also refused to debate her primary opponent, Macro Lopez.

After the commission voted against Hobb’s proposal, Lake issued a statement. She said, “It’s becoming clearer every day that Hobbs’ strategy is to hide from Me, the Press, and the Voters throughout the entirety of this campaign and run out the clock on the people of Arizona. Fortunately, the Clean Elections Commission refused to play into her game and voted down her proposal for a town hall safe space.”

  19. Entire Article @ DailyWire: “An upstate New York construction company is offering high school students an opportunity to make significant money without them going to college. Harrison & Burrowes has supervised the construction and rebuilding of 400 bridges with a workforce of 150 people. Chief Operations Officer Chris DiStefano spoke with “Fox & Friends’” Brian Kilmeade about the company’s offer to the students.

“We’ve been associated with the local BOCES program here, that covers three counties here in upstate New York,” DiStefano said, referring to the Boards of Cooperative Educational Services program started in 1948 by the state. “And we’ve been able to take in high school students that are juniors going into their senior year and give them 200 hours worth of work at our main office in Albany here. They get some hands-on experience and there’s opportunity for them to come on with us full-time after graduation.”

Questar III BOCES matches apprentices with builders and other companies looking for blue-collar workers, the Times Union noted, pointing out that at Harrison & Burrowes, workers can be paid over $35 an hour while heavy equipment operators can take in over $47 an hour.

Asked by Kilmeade whether the traditional stigma attached to those who hadn’t attended college was beginning to change, DiStefano answered, “I think in this day and age college isn’t for everybody — and with the rising cost of tuition, we can provide a great opportunity for those folks that the path to college might not be the best path for them. When they come on, they can come on at 18 years old, they make a steady wage and have a sustainable career going forward.”

He pointed out that those who came to work for his business would not be saddled with the student loan debt plaguing so many people who have gone to college: “We’ve been in business for 42 years and we’ve had a lot of folks come on when they’re 18 years old; when they walk away they can walk away with a great pension; they’ve made a lot of money over the years and they don’t have that student loan debt that’s so prevalent these days.”

The employees of DiStefano’s company work from March through Thanksgiving, giving them “the wintertime to recover and come back fresh in the spring,” he pointed out. It also gives them three months to make extra money working another job. Mark Johnson of Degraff Bloom Custom Builders told the Times Union, “It’s not just, ‘Hey, don’t go to college.’ If you’re going to go to college, go to college with a purpose.”

DiStefano explained that salaries at his company were tied to the prevailing wage rate system determined by the Department of Labor, thus employees could make between $65,000 to $75,000 a year plus another $30,000 to $40,000 in their pension.

“Obviously we’re a family-owned business, we’re going into our second generation; we’re trying to develop the next workforce generation to continue our success forward into the next handful of years,” he noted, adding, “It’s a challenge to find qualified people, but I think we’re taking it very seriously and doing all the things on our end to make a sustainable future for Harrison & Burrowes.”

An assistant U.S. attorney found to have sexually assaulted his or her date will not be held accountable by prosecutors.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Inspector General reported on Monday that an investigation of a sitting assistant U.S. attorney found that they exposed themself in public and forced their date to touch their genitals.

“The OIG investigation found that the AUSA’s genitals were exposed in public, and that the AUSA forced the civilian’s hand to touch the AUSA’s genitals, in violation of state law and federal regulations governing off-duty conduct. The OIG also found that the AUSA lacked candor in discussing this incident with the OIG,” the inspector general said in a summary of the investigation.

“Criminal prosecution of the AUSA was declined,” the summary said. The summary noted that its finding is based on a “preponderance of the evidence” standard.

The DOJ inspector general’s office launched the investigation into the unnamed assistant U.S. attorney after receiving information from the Executive Office for the United States Attorneys (EOUSA). The EOUSA alleged that the assistant U.S. attorney “had exposed the AUSA’s genitals while in a public place and had sexually assaulted a civilian while on a date.”

In another investigative summary released on Monday, the DOJ inspector general said that an unnamed assistant U.S. attorney abused their position after being stopped by police while driving “under the influence of alcohol.”

“The OIG investigation found that the AUSA had engaged in misuse of position when referring to the AUSA’s title in an attempt to influence local police officers during a traffic stop. The OIG investigation also found that the AUSA engaged in conduct that was prejudicial to the government, including ignoring instructions, cursing at officers, and kicking the door of the patrol vehicle, in violation of federal ethics regulations,” the summary said.

“The OIG investigation also determined that the AUSA had been driving a personal vehicle while under the influence of alcohol,” it added.
