What Shall We Bake Today?

Disclaimer: I rarely sit on the counter…any more…giggle.

Today we’re going to make the BEST homemade chocolate cake ever–it includes coffee right in it! So let’s get right to it!

Chocolate Cake

YUM!

Preheat the oven to 350*

Spray 2 8 or 9 inch round pans with baking spray or grease and flour.

In a large bowl, mix with a spoon:

2 cups flour

1 tsp salt

1 tsp baking powder

2 tsp baking soda

3/4 cup cocoa

2 cups of sugar

Add:

1 cup salad oil

1 cup hot coffee

1 cup sour milk*

Beat for 2 minutes, then add 2 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla. Mix thoroughly.

Pour into pans and bake for 35 minutes. After cool, frost with your favorite icing!

NOTE: *sour milk can be made by pouring 2 Tbsp vinegar in a one cup measuring cup and then filling with milk.

Serve the cake with a tall glass of milk or a hot cup of coffee!

    I am stiff this morning…always am after tilling our little garden, but it’s now weed free and ready for plants in a couple of weeks. Mom always said never to plant before May 15th…anyone else ever heard that? I guess it’d be area-specific…lol

    1. Morning, Pat! I was stiff after just putting the downspouts back up!!! LOL – I am in woefully bad shape these days! Comes from sitting on my ass all day, every day! We FINALLY got the rain – I heard it pouring down in the middle of the night and we’re still getting some off-and-on today, with, of course, wind. But it’s not gale-wind so I will just be thankful for the rain.

  7. wow, Filly…this is a story about Nebraska energy. These people are conniving and cunning. the layers and layers of “companies” who donate to campaigns–in this case energy boards–is mind boggling. clearly one would think Nebraska is grass roots–but these “greenies” are funneling $$ from other states and apparently russia. (I’ve seen that charge before–that russia is funding a green movement here to weaken our economy and country…??)

    not news by any means…but still burns my ass. Mayorkas says shit-for-brains is looking at not only taking funding from the Vets, but also personnel to help with the illegals. THIS Is too far. our Vets deserve the BEST we have to offer…not the leftover scraps!!!

    During his recent testimony before Congress, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas informed lawmakers that the Biden administration was considering diverting resources from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to deal with Biden’s border debacle. This includes not just funding but also VA nurses and doctors who are tasked with caring for America’s veterans, and who may now be sent to care for illegal immigrants.

    It’s a ludicrous idea and a terrible decision that Biden seems ready to make. Veterans’ health care has struggled in the past — notably during the last time Biden was in the White House as Vice President in the Obama administration.

    America’s veterans deserve the best possible care as a small benefit in return for their service to our country and defense of our freedom. But Biden thinks those who care for veterans can just be shuffled around as his administration flails about trying to handle the border crisis his policies created.

  21. This is interesting. I’m watching a show on REELZ about the real story behind the saving of Lucas Luttrell in Afghanistan. Apparently, some of the claims he made were grossly exaggerated. This is from the perspective of the Afghani village elder who saved him – I can’t pronounce his name so let’s say Khan. The Taliban was after Khan and his whole family, of course, so Luttrell convinced him to come to the US and participate in the publicity tour for the movie he was making. Turns out Luttrell exaggerated about the number of Taliban troops that attacked them, as well as some other examples. He claimed it was upwards to 200 fighters – the guy who saved him said it was no more than 14!!!! When he brought this up to Luttrell, he insisted the story he had told was the truth and it devolved into Luttrell continuing with his claims and eventually ignoring Khan for weeks, so he returned to Afghanistan. After 10 years of attacks by the Taliban and moving repeatedly to hide from them, he and his family were finally granted US visas with no help from Luttrell.

        1. we set up the trail cam last night and caught pix of the raccoon…he came to see if i refilled the hummer feeder–which i took in. so he yanked off the drip pan from the grill, and raided the mouse bait station…sigh
