Spring is a time of renewal, rebirth. A chance to clean the slate and start again. Sweep out the old and usher in the new…

Every spring, households across the country engage in a ritual called Spring Cleaning. Pre-covid, my ritual was simple yet satisfying. I would target an area in the house, clean and organize, and remove any unwanted or unnecessary items.

NOT our house–I would freak out

But, Post-covid, that wonderful process has completely fallen apart. An interloper has intruded onto the scene and is hindering my best attempts to complete my mission!

Just the other day I was spring cleaning the kitchen, the refrigerator specifically. Following the previously tested and approved process, I would remove all the items from a shelf. Then I would check the expiration date on the package…tossing those whose freshness had passed. The surviving items I would wipe with a clean cloth and after washing the shelf, put the cleaned items back.

But that was all destroyed by covid.. I was removing items, checking their freshness dates and tossing the bad ones into the trash. Or at least I thought I was. As I was tossing items in the trash, hubby–better known around here as the Interloper–was removing them!

“I can still eat this…” he’d say, removing a jar of garlic olives.

“But you haven’t yet…” I told him, taking the olives back and tossing them again.

“But I will now.”

And the olives were placed BACK on the shelf. A container of yellow mustard followed the same route…and he only eats Golden Mustard…back on the shelf it went.

Finally, I tossed a can of biscuits that had seen better days…nearly a month after it’s expiration date. The Interloper insisted HE would make them with our dinner that evening and removed them from the trash, smiling. I had my doubts, but I returned his smile. I was picturing the day he would be enjoying garlic olives, alongside his mustard covered biscuits!

UPDATE:

Later that afternoon, I was sipping some tea, enjoying a cookie (or 3), when I heard a gunshot!! Frantic, I jumped up and ran right into the Interloper–who had also heard the gunshot! Confused, we searched high and low but saw nothing or no one who could have fired a gun. The mystery, however, was solved when I opened the refrigerator…the dang biscuit can exploded all over my clean refrigerator!

Sigh…

    Filly I hope you get rain but not severe storms!!!
    it’s in the upper 30’s here…my daughter, who lives about 4 1/2 hours away texted last night she saw her first hummer!! we have a feeder hanging out since the kids’ visit–it froze after 2 days of snow…so I may change out the water and start watching for visitors!

    1. Good morning y’all! I tend to throw out all kinds of stuff in the fridge. Cans in the pantry however, I often use past the dates. Thanks for mentioning the hummer feeders; I need to clean ours and make some nectar for them this weekend. Weather is nice again and looks to stay for a couple of days.

        We have an open on hummers scheduled for next week…they are so fun to watch!
        hubby hates to throw out any food…sigh…but if i think it’s too far past the expiration date, i will find a way to dispose of it before he eats it…lol…
        I try to rotate the cans in the pantry often enough to avoid an old can–but I did find a can of pears that was 3 years old…LOL…

    2. Hey Pat! So far, so good but we’ll see what today brings! We’re already at 56 before 7 am!!! If the heat builds like they think it will, that will make the storms worse.

      This open is tooooo funny! LOL – man, when you clean, YOU CLEAN!!!! I agree with the Interloper on the sealed, bottled stuff – that is a sell-by date, not a freshness date. But, then, you do know that…..another LOL! But the biscuits – ROFLMAO – I can easily see that happening to me!!!!

            If you think I’m excessive–you should have met my mom when she was younger…
            twice a year she would go thru the house like a dynamo. washing every wall and ceiling, going thru every drawer, cabinet, dresser, appliance…moving the furniture, steaming the carpets…
            TWICE A YEAR!
            I like to open the windows in spring and air out the house and spring clean because of the wood stove. but i don’t (because i can’t) get the walls and the ceilings in the great room.
            confession–I do wash them in the bathrooms because they’re dry walled and painted.

            1. A wood stove changes everything, Pat! But, then, with my smoking…..this entire house is going to have to be cleaned, ceiling to floors! LOL – with a sonic air cleaner, too! I’m sure this place reeks to a non-smoker.

    According to a police report, the juveniles pounced on the victim after making a comment about her hairstyle. The attackers reportedly called the victim “white [expletive] with braids” and told her she could not wear her hair in the style because she was “not Black.”

    Witnesses told investigators that as many as 20 teens, some as young as 12 years old, swarmed the victim, who is 19 years old.

    The juveniles are charged with pulling her hair, punching her and kicking her repeatedly near Washington and Winter Streets just before 7 p.m. Monday night.

    And no, it wasn’t a vacation.

    Miller said in a new interview that he “had very frank discussions with some extremely high level Ukrainian military & intelligence officials, and political officials.”

    Anyone else stunned at that news?

    Why is no one in the MSM picking up on this?

    Why is the “former” Secretary of Defense inserting himself into a war zone and meeting with senior leadership?

    Earlier today, a spokesman denied the report that McCarthy called for Trump’s resignation from the upcoming book, “This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America’s Future,” authored by Burns and Martin.

    CHENEY: I guess there’s a question. When we’re talking about the 25th Amendment resolution, and you asked if, you know, what happens if it gets there after he’s gone, is there any chance, are you hearing, that he might resign, is there any reason to think that might happen?

    MCCARTHY: I’ve a few discussions. My gut tells me no, I’m seriously thinking of having that conversation with him tonight. I haven’t talked to him in a couple of days. This is what I think, we know it’ll pass the House.

    I think there’s a chance it’ll pass the Senate, even when he is gone. And I think there’s a lot of different ramifications for that. Now, I haven’t had a discussion with the DEMs, that if he did resign, with that happen? Now, this is one personal fear I have. I do not want to get into any conversation about Pence pardoning. Again, the only discussion I would have with him is that, I think this will pass. And it will be my recommendation you should resign. I mean, that would be my take. But I don’t think he would take it. But I don’t know.”

    Later in his speech, the president said how the Democrats and President Biden want to keep America in fear of the coronavirus with mask mandates to continue policies that enable them to cheat in elections. He also called for a rebirth of “America First” policies.

    “America is facing dark times and tremendous plight due to the radical shift away from America First,” Trump said. “However, America’s greatness is not lost if we act with purpose. We can and must turn this around to save America.”

    According to Jacksonville.com, the former president’s speech “aligns with a series of appearances the former president has scheduled in Republican-friendly communities where organizers have promoted what they call Save America rallies.”

    A 19-year-old woman awoke to a man massaging her knee and touching her groin area and breast on a Delta flight from Amsterdam, Netherlands to Detroit, Michigan.

    The groper, Bektash Sefa, told law enforcement that he didn’t sexually assault the woman because he had a nightmare that caused his hands to move uncontrollably.

    According to investigators Bektash Sefa tried to speak to the 19-year-old woman as they were boarding, but she ignored him.

    So he sexually assaulted her while she was asleep.

    The flight attendants said the female victim was so distraught after she awoke to Sefa sexually assaulting her that she could barely articulate what had happened.

    Sefa was charged with abusive sexual contact.

    Justice Ketanji’s confirmation to the Supreme Court serves as a reminder that “even in the darkest times, there are bright lights,” Schumer said. “And this month, folks, we witnessed one of the brightest that we hope is a metaphor, an indication, a good omen of more bright lights to come, the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice KBJ.”

    Schumer then compared the appointment of Jackson, a judge notorious for leniency even in baby sex torture cases, to Jesus’ resurrection, declaring, “The stone has been rolled away from the tomb.”

    He added that the action “could have significant negative effects on growers, the agricultural economy and the nation’s food supply.” In March, food prices surged at a rate of 8.8% year-over-year, the largest 12-month increase since May 1981.”

The police department in Keizer, Oregon, received a call Tuesday regarding a cat who was walking around the neighborhood with an arrow through him, according to KPTV. The department called several neighbors, one of whom was Taleaha, who realized that her indoor-outdoor cat “Milo” was nowhere to be found, the outlet continued.

    “I was outside for about five minutes getting him to try and come and he wasn’t coming so I scanned my backyard really good and saw his pink nose,” she told reporters. Milo seemed fine to start. “There was no arrow in him, so we were a little bit, you know, relieved?” (RELATED: Terrifying Shark Washes Ashore In Florida)

    “He went to crouch down and crawl then his back end just fell over so I knew something was wrong,” she continued. After taking Milo inside, Taleaha found an entry and exit wound on his stomach and rushed him to the veterinarian’s office. “Oh we all lost it. [The vets] were extremely worried there was going to be internal bleeding and that it could’ve hit an organ or a lung or anything like that, but it missed them all with the imaging they took, and it missed his spine. He’s lucky. They said they’ve never seen anything like it,” she reported.

    Taleaha retraced Milo’s paw prints and found the arrow under a boat trailer in her yard, leading her to believe that he pulled the weapon out himself, KPTV noted. Keizer police took the arrow as evidence. Milo suffered nerve damage from the attack, and Taleaha hopes the responsible parties will be caught, the report continued.

    “I think it’s disgusting. I feel like if you can do it to an animal, you can turn around and do it to a human.”

    Milo is not the only beloved animal to survive such a brutal and thoughtless attack. In 2020, a beloved whitetail deer named “Carrot” was shot through the head with an arrow and survived the ordeal with nominal damage. Taleaha has started a GoFundMe to support Milo’s medical bills.   44. EXCERPT: “Dartmouth College reportedly demanded the College Republicans (CR’s) pay a $3,600 “security fee” after a Jan. 20 event moved to online due to safety concerns.

    The Jan. 20 event, hosted by the CR’s, Turning Point USA and the Network of Enlightened Women, was set to host conservative journalist Andy Ngo, according to Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE). The college allegedly forced the event to move online due to unspecified safety concerns raised by the Hanover Police Department.

    There were reports of planned protests by Dartmouth Anarchists, an anonymous group on campus, and Northeast Antifa, Just the News reported. The department released records of disturbing Reddit posts with calls to “destroy” the students’ “livelihood,” then later told FIRE they did not recommend for the college to take action.”

    In an April 18 letter, FIRE told Dartmouth they were “astounded” by the fee placed on the club that “infringes the expressive and associational rights” of the students.”

TBH, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this reversed…..the fact is, under a National Health Emergency, HHS has all the LEGAL power, and the CDC, NIH, FDA, etc. ALL fall under HHS – I’ve posted a link to the very long list of laws that go into effect. All it will take is a little judicious judge-shopping and voila! Therefore, the only way to avoid this in the future is to revoke all those many laws. JMO and of course, I’m not a lawyer…..but I did stay at….well, you know! 😛😜😝🤤😁😘

      1. maybe…but a national health emergency is a broad term and has very clear limits i think.
        otherwise every administration could declare one and subvert powers and laws.
        just because the current admin refuses to lift it (for political reasons) doesn’t mean it shouldn’t have been. and they are gonna have to present overwhelming facts to support it.

According to CNBC, the sharp drop “led to a wave of downgrades from Wall Street on fears over the company’s long-term growth potential,” resulting in a loss of more than $50 billion of its market cap.

    “It is now the worst-performing stock of 2022 in the S&P 500, down 62.5 percent year-to-date,” CNBC flatly stated. Analysts with Bank of America, one of the nine Wall Street companies to downgrade the streaming platform, said the company’s current plans “reaccelerate growth” show a share of promise, they will likely have no “noticeable impact until ’24, a long time to wait on what is now a ‘show me story.’”

    Analyst Jeffrey Wlodarczak with Pivotal also wrote on Tuesday that Netflix’s poor performance meant a reduction in “subscriber forecasts” and a substantial pushback in “profitability forecasts.”

    With the closing of the second quarter, Netflix is projected to lose 2 million global subscribers. In a letter to shareholders on Tuesday, the company said the company’s content still remains popular but faces stiff competition. It also cited the company cutting off its paid 700,000 membership in Russia for a sharp drop in global subscribers.”

    EXCERPT: “The University of Buffalo’s Black Student Union (BSU) held a town hall meeting to discuss the trauma they endured by Lt. Col. Allen West (Ret.) visiting campus to speak at an event, titled, “America is Not Racist.” Amongst the outraged responses to West’s appearance, one stands out — the university’s graduate student association says it “condemns the anti-black hate speech promoted by Allen West’s presence on campus.”

    Allen West visited the University of Buffalo (UB) last month to speak at an event about how “America is not racist” and “why American values are exceptional,” but the school descended into chaos, according to one student who organized the event.

    According to a report by the school’s student newspaper, the Spectrum, West’s talk demoralized some students. Black Student Union Secretary Taylor Lewis, for example, said she “felt weird,” and was “trying to figure out where [her] place” on campus is as a “human being.”

    “I feel weird,” Lewis said. “I know that’s kind of a weird thing to say, but I’m in a space where I’m just trying to internalize it and understand everything that’s happened.”

    “I’m also trying to figure out where my place is — not only as a member of BSU but just as a human being here on this campus, so that I can eventually move forward,” she added.

    Sociology graduate student J Coley said he is “exhausted” protesting, and thinks the university hasn’t done enough to make the campus “a more inclusive place.” “This is not the first time someone like this has been invited to speak [on campus],” Coley told the Spectrum. “I’m just exhausted. I’m trying my best to use these feelings and turn them into something productive, but something that black students need to remember is that it’s not our job to fix the issues here on campus.”

    “UB isn’t paying us to protest, or paying us for the labor we are doing to make UB a more inclusive place,” the student added. The UB Graduate Student Association, of which Coley is president, also issued a statement saying it “condemns the anti-black hate speech promoted by Allen West’s presence on campus.”
