THE MAN FROM THE ICE

Not every couple on vacation comes across a dead body, let alone a deep-frozen one. But this is precisely what happened on Thursday, September 19, 1991 in the Tyrolean Alps by Helmut and Erika Simon. They had just crossed the Hauslabjoch Pass, which would bring them down to Italy, when they noticed a body protruding from the ice. Reporting their find to the nearest mountain center, they proceeded on their trip, little knowing what would follow.

The manager of the center notified both the Italian and Austrian police, as well as the mountain rescue chief for the area. The following day the Austrian police arrived at the Pass and began chiseling out the body, which lay in a natural hollow covered by the remains of a glacier. A suggestion that it was a man who had disappeared in 1941 was belied by the collection of ancient-looking objects found with the body, including skin clothing and an axe, apparently with an iron blade.

Stock Photo

Of course, wide speculation abounded from local mountaineers to experts in local folk-culture. Early estimates claimed the body’s age ranged from 500 to 3K years. The body was finally released from the ice on September 23 and sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Innsbruck, Austria. The corpse turned out to be of a man over 40 who had apparently died of exposure. Konrad Spindler, Professor of Archaeology at Innsbruck, believed the axe had a bronze rather than an iron blade, and speculated that the body was at least 4K years old.

Initial radio carbon tests on grass samples found with the body suggested an even earlier date – somewhere between 2,600 BC and 2,900 BC. Excavations at the site revealed an amazing repertoire of equipment carried by a prehistoric man going about his business: a pair of grass-lined leather shoes; a fur hood; a patchwork jacket made of deer fur; fur leggings; a leather apron; a woven-grass cloak; a thong with a stone pendant; a goat-fur rucksack; a net; a beaker made of birch bark; a bow; a copper axe with wooden handle; a fur quiver stuffed with 12 wooden arrow shafts; two arrows complete with flint arrowheads and an arrow repair kit; flint and bone tools; and a calf’s-leather pouch containing a fire-making kit.

Artifacts found with Otzi

It soon became clear that the iceman, dubbed “Otzi” by the press, was one of the greatest archaeological finds of the century. This brought about an undignified row between Italy and Austria as to ownership of Otzi’s body. Once the archaeological importance of the find had been appreciated, the press on both sides of the Alps trumpeted a battle of words over the frozen corpse.

It is difficult to determine border lines through the snowy terrain of the Alps but it was agreed, after a new survey specially commissioned to solve the problem, that the body was found just within the Italian side of the border. Eventually the authorities of the North Tyrol (Austrian) and South Tyrol (Italian) came to an agreement that Otzi could remain in Innsbruck until the scientific studies were completed.

Wild theories abounded, including one woman who claimed it was her husband’s body, who went missing in the 1970’s; and then there was a Viennese gay magazine that started a rumor that Otzi was the world’s oldest known passive homosexual, while his skin clothing surely revealed him to be a “leather queen.” The claim was also made that Otzi’s penis was missing. When Otzi’s genitals were examined in April 1993, his penis proved to be there after all, shrunk to about 5 centimeters – quite a creditable length after 5K years of deep-freezing.

These stories are, no doubt, only the small beginnings of a popular publishing industry on the iceman that will come to rival that on Tutankhmanu. The speculations of academics themselves have sometimes lacked restraint, even turning at times to the bizarre. With this kind of speculation coming from the academic world, it may only be a matter of time before a book is published claiming that Otzi was an alien who landed on the Alps in a spaceship!!!!

  5. EXCERPT: “Two so-called diversity activists in Arizona falsely accused a black man of wearing blackface. But even after being told the man in question was black, one still accused him of wearing blackface.

“This week, an ASU instructor, and a librarian, who hold themselves out as being Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) gurus, falsely accused a Black DJ of wearing blackface during a charity event for the Scottsdale Unified school district,” reports the Arizona Independent News Network. The Scottsdale Unified School District’s Hopi Elementary PTA hired a black man named Kim Koko Hunter to disc jockey for a charity event that reportedly raised $300,000.

Stuart Rhoden and Jill Lassen are the McCarthyite woketards in question. Rhodes is an “instructor in ASU’s University College teaching an entry-level college-orientation type class,” and Lassen has “earned a reputation for her abusive behavior towards other parents she refers to as ‘super-rich White Karens,’” according to the outlet.

Further, Rhoden is a member of Scottsdale Unified’s Equity and Inclusion Committee and the Scottsdale Human Relations Commission, which is all about promoting diversity. Lassen is a Scottsdale Parent Council (SPC) DEI Committee co-chair.
    ————————
After Lassen was informed of the truth, she at least had the decency to apologize. Rhoden, however, continued to accuse the black DJ of wearing blackface! Get a load of his Facebook post after being informed Hunter is black…

Let me be clear, a Black man, apparently in Black face is an entirely different discussion than a White person. However, I did not state that the person was White. It was assumed that was my intent, and perhaps it was, but nonetheless, looking on his FB page (photos below), it seems at the very least he is in darker make-up if not “Black face” or I am completely mistaken and it’s the lighting of the patio.

It’s extraordinary that two people who are so obviously damaged have been allowed to rise into positions of power and influence.

For his part, Hunter sounds like an adult who was able to let it go. The New York Post says he responded to the nonsense on Facebook with good humor: “Was I not Black enough? How black do I got to be for people to know that I’m an actual Black person,” he wrote.”

  6. Since I lost OANN, I have been watching Fox more and noticed that something looked different about Ainsley Earhardt. I was curious whether she had a face lift or some other plastic surgery. So I ran across this……I did not know that she and her latest hubby had divorced – he was allegedly unfaithful. She apparently had a miscarriage in 2019, which was also when they divorced. Rumor is that she and Hannity are a “thing” now – since May 2021. I can’t copy/paste from this site….

    https://famousintel.com/ainsley-earhardt/

EXCERPT: “Sean Hannity is currently with Ainsley Earhardt. This has been known for a while. The couple is also known as Fox’s first married couple.

Although they have been together for some time, it was not revealed that the pair were actually seeing each other until 2019. Ainsley and Sean were previously married, and they are currently divorcing. Sean Patrick Hannity, another well-known American media figure, is also a notable one.

According to some reports, their relationship began after they both divorced their spouses. After a seven-year marriage, Ainsley Earhardt was twice married before she divorced Will Proctor in 2019.”

Sean and Jill Rhodes divorced at the same moment, ending their 25-year-long marriage. Although the couple had been together since 2019, it was not until 2020 that they publicly acknowledged their relationship. Hayden Earhardt, Earhardt’s daughter. The sweet couple is loved and respected by the public and has been doing well.

        1. It is the Yin-Yang symbol:

EXCERPT: “The most well-known of Taoist visual symbols is the Yin-Yang, also known as the Taiji symbol. The image consists of a circle divided into two teardrop-shaped halves—one white and the other black. Within each half is contained a smaller circle of the opposite color.

The Yin-Yang Symbol and Taoist Cosmology
In terms of Taoist cosmology, the circle represents Tao—the undifferentiated unity out of which all existence arises. The black and white halves within the circle represent Yin-qi and Yang-qi—the primordial feminine and masculine energies whose interplay gives birth to the manifest world: to the Five Elements and Ten-Thousand Things.

Yin and Yang Are Co-Arising and Interdependent
The curves and circles of the Yin-Yang symbol imply a kaleidoscope-like movement. This implied movement represents how Yin and Yang are mutually-arising, interdependent, and continuously transforming, one into the other. One could not exist without the other, for each contains the essence of the other. Night becomes day, and day becomes night. Birth becomes death, and death becomes birth. Friends become enemies, and enemies become friends. As Taoism teaches, such is the nature of everything in the relative world.

          Heads and Tails
Here’s another way of looking at the Yin-Yang symbol: The black and white halves are similar to the two sides of a coin. They are different and distinct, yet one could not exist without the other. The circle itself, which contains these two halves, is like the metal (silver, gold, or copper) of the coin. The metal of the coin represents the Tao—what the two sides have in common and what makes them “the same.”

When we flip a coin, we will always get either heads or tails, one answer or the other. In terms of the essence of the coin (the metal upon which the heads and tails symbols are imprinted), the answer will always be the same.

Smaller Circles Within the Larger Circle
Significantly, the Yin-Yang contains smaller circles nested within each half of the symbol to serve as a constant reminder of the interdependent nature of the black/white opposites. It reminds the Taoist practitioner that all of relative existence is in constant flux and change. And while the creation of pairs-of-opposites would seem to be an aspect of our human software, we can maintain a relaxed attitude around this, knowing that each side always contains the other, as night contains day, or as a mother contains the infant that she will give birth to in time.”

            1. Good question – I don’t know. Found this, tho.

EXCERPT: “The concept of Yin and Yang sprouted its roots in China several hundred years before Christ’s birth. It represented Taoism, a religion that focuses on two opposing parts, one dark one light, one evil one good, one balanced one unbalanced. But the true beauty of it is that when placed together, the duality of this symbol recognizes the true balance of life itself. It takes these two clashing parts to make a whole, something well rounded and spiritually progressive.
I can relate my Christian faith to this concept, as it is the very basic foundation of my spiritual core. If Yin and Yang represent two equal yet opposing forces, then I find a congruent principle in my own spiritual journey.
My faith understands the acceptance of bad times verses good ones. It is crucial that tribulations occur, as they’re not only a teaching tool on how to rely and trust God, but also a trial to test our spiritual awareness. How easy would it be to trust, love, and rely on someone if all they gave us were presents and praises? It is in low times that we are forced to look inwards, to muster the strength and faith needed to face hardships. Yin and Yang are the sadness needed to savor joy; the selfishness to receive grace; the self-loathing to accept forgiveness; the tempest to enjoy still, warm waters. It in the darkest abyss that light is welcomed.
This concept is the balance of our lives, what makes us truly rounded and spiritual. You cannot have one side without the other, as if we were to have that, it would cause severe unbalance in our lives. Everything works for our own good, even when we face tribulations.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”—Romans 8:28”

  7. Entire article @ BB: “Recent court filings show that late on Friday, a judge ruled that Tesla CEO Elon Musk knowingly lied when he tweeted about a deal to take Tesla private in 2018. The infamous “funding secured” tweet landed Musk in hot water with securities regulators and his own shareholders.

CNBC reports that a court filing made last Friday in relation to the ongoing case between shareholders suing Tesla and CEO Elon Musk over alleged securities fraud showed that a ruling had been made in relation to Musk’s statements about taking the company private.

Shareholders are suing Tesla over money they lost following Musk’s tweets in 2018 in which he stated that he had secured funding to take Tesla private at $420 a share. A judge has now ruled that Musk knowingly made false statements in posting these tweets.

Following Musk’s tweets, Tesla’s stock trading halted then shares became extremely volatile for a considerable amount of time. Musk later claimed to have been in discussions with Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund and was confident that he could secure funding at $420 a share, but a deal was never finalized.

The SEC sued Musk at the time, claiming that he had committed securities fraud. Musk finally agreed to an SEC settlement after initially refusing and both he and Tesla paid a $20 million fine; but in February of this year, it was reported that Musk was issued another subpoena by the SEC which was attempting to determine whether he had complied with the settlement agreement.

Judge Edward M. Chen, who is presiding over a shareholders’ lawsuit against Musk, concluded that Musk acted with scienter — that he knowingly made false statements about having funding secured to take Tesla private at the time of his tweets.

Musk lashed out at the SEC on Thursday during a TED conference, calling the SEC’s San Francisco “bastards.” Musk commented: “The SEC knew that funding was secured but they pursued an active, public investigation nonetheless at the time. Tesla was in a precarious financial situation. And I was told by the banks that if I did not agree to settle with the SEC that they would, the banks would cease providing working capital and Tesla would go bankrupt immediately. So that’s like having a gun to your child’s head. I was forced to concede to the SEC unlawfully.”

  8. This is where my lack of understanding of the financial world comes back to bite me. He is supposedly one of THE richest men in the world and yet, he needs the banks to provide capital so Tesla doesn’t go bankrupt????

EXCERPT: “Musk, during an interview Thursday at the TED 2022 conference, said he had the funding to take Tesla private in 2018. He called the Securities and Exchange Commission a profane name and said he only settled because bankers told him they would stop providing capital if he didn’t, and Tesla would go bankrupt.

The interview and court action came just days after Musk, the world’s richest person, made a controversial offer to take over Twitter and turn it into a private company with a $43 billion offer that equals $54.20 per share. Twitter’s board on Friday adopted a “poison pill” strategy that would make it prohibitively expensive for Musk to buy the shares.

In court documents filed Friday, lawyers for the Tesla shareholders alleged that Musk is trying to influence potential jurors in the lawsuit. They contend that Musk’s 2018 tweets about having the money to take Tesla private at $420 per share were written to maniuplate the stock price, costing shareholders money.

Now, lawyers say Musk is campaigning to influence possible jurors as the case gets closer to trial.”

    1. he said, at the time of the deal, he had secured funding, and the SEC KNEW that, but went ahead with their suit.
the BANKS told musk, to settle the suit OR they would revokeTesla funding—so they blackmailed him essentially. he wanted tesla to go forward but it wouldn’t if he fought the sec suit.

  10. Entire article @ BB: “Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) took time out of her Easter Sunday to criticize Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) for one of her campaign ads during an appearance on MSNBC. The 30-second spot features a defiant Ivey rejecting President Joe Biden’s immigration policies and the possibility of Alabamians having to learn Spanish given an influx of illegal Spanish-speaking immigrants.

“No way, Jose,” the Alabama governor declared in the ad. Waters was on MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show” and condemned Ivey for what she called “plain racist ignorance, in your face.” In comments given to Breitbart News, Ivey declared a “liberal” California congresswoman would not lecture her.

“There’s nothing racist with telling the truth about the disaster Joe Biden is causing with illegals invading our country,” she said. “I’m not going to be lectured by a liberal Congresswoman from California. We’ll handle our business in Alabama.”

Her campaign followed up with its own comment, calling her comments “an in-kind contribution.” “We might just have to report Maxine Waters’ comments as an in-kind contribution,” the campaign said.

Ivey is the incumbent governor in a race for her state’s Republican gubernatorial nomination. Alabama Republican voters will go to the polls on May 24 to select their preference for their party’s gubernatorial nod.”

  11. EXCERPT: “Five associates of Hillary Clinton and her presidential campaign are invoking their Fifth Amendment rights and refusing to cooperate with Special Counsel John H. Durham, according a filing in federal court revealed later Friday in Washington, DC.

The revelation emerged in a motion filed by Durham to oppose the efforts of defendant Michael Sussmann and the Clinton campaign to withhold some documents from evidence by asserting attorney-client privilege.

Sussmann is charged with lying to the FBI in 2016 when he informed the FBI about a fraudulent link between then-candidate Donald Trump and the Russian government via Alfa Bank. Sussmann allegedly presented himself as a concerned citizen, and hid the fact that he was working for the Clinton campaign.

In the filing, Durham noted that while one witness, identified as “Researcher-2,” was granted immunity from prosecution in exchange for testimony, “at least five other witnesses who conducted work relating to the Russian Bank-1 allegations invoked (or indicated their intent to invoke) their right against self-incrimination.”

Legal scholar Jonathan Turley noted in a commentary on the filing:

‘[Durham] is now moving to give immunity to a key witness while revealing that the claims made by the Clinton campaign were viewed by the CIA as “not technically plausible” and “user created.” He also revealed that at least five of the former Clinton campaign contractors/researchers have invoked the Fifth Amendment and refused to cooperate in fear that they might incriminate themselves in criminal conduct.’

Turley also noted that Durham’s filing “also detailed how the false Russian collusion claims related to Alfa Bank involved Clinton General Counsel Marc Elias and Christopher Steele.”

Oil From Biden’s Emergency SPR Release Is Heading For Europe
    APR 18, 2022

    https://www.zerohedge.com/commodities/oil-bidens-emergency-spr-release-heading-europe

Joe Biden’s decision to release 180 million barrels of oil from the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve – one million barrels per day for 180 days, ending just before the midterm elections which the Democrats will lose in an avalanche – was meant to help lower US gasoline prices “because Putin price hike.” Instead, it is heading for Europe.

According to Bloomberg, citing a person familiar with the matter, the Suezmax ship Advantage Spring – sailing for Rotterdam, according to ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg – received emergency SPR sweet crude from Energy Transfer’s Nederland oil facility around April 1 for export.

The Suezmax also received SPR crude from Aframax Eagle Hatteras, which loaded at same terminal in first week of April.

The Advantage Spring was chartered by Atlantic Trading, an affiliate of Total, ship fixtures data show.

It appears that somehow the definition of emergency now includes making a profit at the expense of American consumers because sooner or later a real emergency will hit and then it will be too late, while easing the true energy emergency over in Europe.

According to Matt Smith, oil analyst at commodity data firm Kpler, this is the first export of SPR crude since last November. Which means the oil was apportioned from Biden’s shock SPR release.

One wonders what is behind Biden’s decision to make US emergency SPR oil available across the Atlantic; one can only hope that it doesn’t mean that in the coming midterms mail in ballots will also be made available to Europeans…

  13. EXCERPT: “Following reports over the weekend that Thoma Bravo and several other investors had shown an interest in a bid for Fascist Twitter after Elon Musk announced his hopes to take it private, WSJ reported Monday that PE giant Apollo has also held discussion about potentially backing a bid for the company.

It’s not clear whether the firm is leaning toward backing Elon Musk’s tender offer, or perhaps another bid for the social media company. WSJ said Apollo’s involvement could entail equity or debt.

Fascist Twitter shares moved even higher in after-hours trading after surging during Monday’s session on news of Apollo’s interest, as the PE juggernaut’s involvement now virtually guarantees that a deal will take place, since the Board of Directors can’t say no to everyone (since the further the company’s stock climbs, the more support there would be for an argument that opposing a deal would be a breach of the board’s fiduciary duty).

Co-founder and former CEO Fruit Jack Dorsey (who was pushed out by the board) has argued that Twitter’s board has been a major drag for the company, and others have pointed out that board members own few, if any, shares of the company. But employees, Democrats and the MSM have had a meltdown over the prospect that Musk could gain control and roll back restrictions on ‘hate speech’ and ‘harassment’, which Musk has said he regards as undue censorship.”

      1. From Wiki: “A private-equity firm is an investment management company that provides financial backing and makes investments in the private equity of startup or operating companies through a variety of loosely affiliated investment strategies including leveraged buyout, venture capital, and growth capital. Often described as a financial sponsor, each firm will raise funds that will be invested in accordance with one or more specific investment strategies.

Typically, a private-equity firm will raise pools of capital, or private-equity funds that supply the equity contributions for these transactions. Private-equity firms will receive a periodic management fee as well as a share in the profits earned (carried interest) from each private-equity fund managed.

Private-equity firms, with their investors, will acquire a controlling or substantial minority position in a company and then look to maximize the value of that investment. Private-equity firms generally receive a return on their investments through one of the following avenues:”

    1. Quote: “Bottom line: bottom line: Apollo could LBO twitter itself, or just give Musk equity or debt to fund the purchase.”

So, what is an LBO? Leveraged Buy-Out

      EXCERPT: “Understanding Leveraged Buyouts (LBOs)

In a leveraged buyout (LBO), there is usually a ratio of 90% debt to 10% equity. Because of this high debt/equity ratio, the bonds issued in the buyout are usually not investment grade and are referred to as junk bonds. LBOs have garnered a reputation for being an especially ruthless and predatory tactic as the target company doesn’t usually sanction the acquisition. Aside from being a hostile move, there is a bit of irony to the process in that the target company’s success, in terms of assets on the balance sheet, can be used against it as collateral by the acquiring company.

The purpose of leveraged buyouts is to allow companies to make large acquisitions without having to commit a lot of capital. LBOs are conducted for three main reasons:

      – To take a public company private
      – To spin off a portion of an existing business by selling it
      – To transfer private property, as is the case with a change in small business ownership

However, it is usually a requirement that the acquired company or entity, in each scenario, is profitable and growing. Leveraged buyouts have had a notorious history, especially in the 1980s, when several prominent buyouts led to the eventual bankruptcy of the acquired companies. This was mainly due to the fact that the leverage ratio was nearly 100% and the interest payments were so large that the company’s operating cash flows were unable to meet the obligation.”

EXCERPT: “ORLANDO, Florida — Sensors on a Florida amusement park ride had been adjusted manually to double the size of the opening for restraints on two seats, resulting in a 14-year-old boy not being properly secured before he slipped out and fell to his death, according to an initial report released Monday by outside engineers.

The average opening for restraints on the seats on the 430-foot (131-meter), free-fall amusement park ride located in the heart of Orlando’s tourist district was 3.3 inches (8.3 centimeters). However, the opening of the restraint for the seat used by Tyre Sampson was as much as 7.1 inches (18 centimeters), and the one for another seat was 6.5 inches (16.5 centimeters), according to the report commissioned by the Florida Department of Agriculture, which is investigating the accident.

Sampson was only 14 but already 6 feet, 5 inches tall (195 centimeters) and well over 300 pounds (136 kilograms) when he slipped out of his seat as the ride plunged to the ground at speeds of 75 mph (about 121 kph) or more.

An inspection of the seats showed that sensors used to activate safety lights on the two seats, indicating the harness safety restraints were in place, had been adjusted to allow for the wider openings. As the ride slowed down, Sampson slipped through a gap between the seat and safety harness, the report said.

“The cause of the subject accident was that Tyre Sampson was not properly secured in the seat primarily due to mis-adjustment of the harness proximity sensors,” said the report from Quest Engineering and Failure Analysis, Inc.

The Orlando Free Fall ride, which is taller than the Statue of Liberty, didn’t experience any electrical or mechanical failures, the report said.”

          1. I don’t see where they will have a choice the next time around – unless he quits mid-term, and if he wins this year (which I think is a given), he won’t be ready to run until 2026.

  19. this is hysterical…FLA holds twitter shares– in their pension system–and they’re gonna be looking at if they can hold the directors responsible
    entire article

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was asked a few minutes ago about Twitter’s “poison pill” plan to prevent Elon Musk from owning the company.

He revealed that the state of Florida is actually a Twitter shareholder, which means the state can participate in holding Twitter’s board of directors accountable for their “poison pill” plan.

And that’s exactly what DeSantis plans to do…

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) threatens Twitter after it activated “poison pill” plan to prevent Elon Musk’s acquisition: “We’re gonna be looking at ways the state of Florida potentially can be holding these Twitter board of directors accountable for breaching their fiduciary duty.” pic.twitter.com/55OFO90AjJ

    — The Recount (@therecount) April 19, 2022

    Here’s what DeSantis told reporters:

“The state of Florida and our pension system – we have shares of Twitter. I didn’t buy it, we have people who run the fund. But nevertheless, it hasn’t exactly been great in returns on investment. It’s been pretty stagnant for many, many years.

So, but nevertheless…I mean to me, I think that’s [the poison pill plan] probably an injury to the fund. So we’re going to be looking at ways that the state of Florida, potentially, can be holding these twitter board of directors accountable for breaching their fiduciary duty.

    So stay tuned on that.”

In the video the crowd loudly applauds when DeSantis reveals this.

Honesty I think it’s hilarious that, by virtue of the state of Florida owning Twitter shares, that DeSantis gets to pursue action against Twitter over this. I hope he leads a movement to oust the board for doing this.
