Hanging With My Peeps

Before we moved to upstate Pennsylvania, I lived and worked in the southeastern part of the state at a logistics company. They moved cargo and containers from ports and railways all across the country. I was the “Cash Applications Manager”…lol…fancy title I know, and I was friends with several other managers in the company.

One of my best friends there, Jane, and I would walk every day we could, right after lunch. The building we worked out of, was nestled in a small industrial section of Bethlehem, and was not far from a main thoroughfare in the city. One sunny afternoon, we were feeling pretty ambitious and decided to take the “long” way back the office.

I could smell the air changing as we walked and a puzzled look must have crossed my face because Jane asked me what was wrong. “Can’t you smell it?” I asked.

She looked around briefly, sniffed and said “Just Born.”

Just Born is the maker of the famous Peeps…and jelly beans…and all sorts of wonderful candy. On most days when we walked far enough, or the wind was blowing just right, we could smell jelly beans being made–the fruity smells filling the air!

Of course, Just Born also is the home of the famous Peepmobile!

Peeps are not to everyone’s taste, but I love them! I enjoy mine stale. I remove the plastic wrapping from the peeps and let them sit out for a while to develop a crunchy outside…YUM!

    1. Hmmm….that is probably one factor, I would guess. But I also think this “….has to act in the best interests of the company, and our shareholders…..” may have been another factor. THAT is the clause they use, IMO, to block what they consider to be “disinformation.”

he could totally tank the stock with a “leaked” tweet about dumping twitter…then rebuy at a lower price and buy a lot

how do y’all feel about McCarthy’s statement that the repubs are not gonna use impeachment politically…is he being cagey and not telling the enemy of our strategy in advance? or is he surrendering before the battle begins?
    FTA
    McCarthy responded as follows:

“Look the one thing we learned that the Democrats did, is they used impeachment for political reason. We believe in the rule of law. We’re not going to pick and choose just because somebody has power,” McCarthy said, adding that “at any time if someone breaks the law” impeachment may be considered “but we’re not going to use it for political purposes.”

  6. You may recall my mentioning my neighbor, Mardel, whose family moved her lock-stock-and-barrel out of her house – she used to provide food and water for the neighborhood cats. I’ve seen them still congregating on her front stoop and thought about taking some food over. Then I decided, no, that would probably just end up drawing them to hang out in my yard.

Well, I’ve acquired 2 yard kitties, apparently. When I opened the blinds on my patio doors, I saw 2 kitties – look kind of small/young but that may be misleading – mostly black with some calico markings, near my shed. One of them went over to the fence to find a way out, while the other one approached my patio door. I grabbed the bag of cat food and headed out onto the patio – as soon as he/she heard me, he/she ran off – I poured some food on the sidewalk and came back inside. After a few minutes, he/she found the food and is now chowing down.

Guess I’ll be buying a BIG bag of cheap cat food!!!! The food I get for Jake is for indoor cats so I can get cheaper food for the outdoor kitties.

        1. They are so cute – while she was eating, he was sitting on top of the gate, watching over her. Then he headed towards one of the evergreens in the front yard – this is where the bunnies have their nests. She is gone now, too. Ah, well! Such is life in the crazy lady’s world!!!

      1. He is oblivious! He can’t see them from inside unless he happens to see them thru the bathroom or front windows. We got some rain last night but also had a frost overnight – still only 33 this morning but the sun is shining. If it were warm enough to have the patio doors open – THAT would be a different story. He would run back and forth from one end of the patio to the other, following their progress, and acting fierce!

I expect I will have a family of kittens underneath my shed sometime soon. They must have gotten hold of one of those dastardly bunnies – there was a bunch of rabbit fur on the ground near the patio door. Good – go get ’em!!!!

  7. EXCERPT: “Roll up your sleeve and wait. The U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres backs plans to jab every person on the planet with coronavirus vaccine as the pharmaceutical industry guarantees 1.5 billion doses per month are now ready for global distribution.

The veteran Portuguese socialist was addressing an international vaccine equity summit Friday when he outlined his support for global jabs during an event that saw world leaders commit $4.8 billion to drive lower-income nations boost vaccination rates.

Guterres said in order to reach the billions who have so far not received coronavirus vaccine shots, countries needed to “fulfil and accelerate dose-sharing and donation commitments” to U.N. agencies and allies tasked with supplying the mass vaccinations.

There is also the need to expand the range of people open to vaccinations. “And it means having strong national vaccine-delivery systems at the ready – including efforts to counter disinformation and get vaccines into arms. I also call on countries to commit new funding for the ACT-Accelerator and COVAX this year,” Guterres outlined.

He said the summit was “a critical reminder that the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over. We’re seeing 1.5 million new cases each day. Large outbreaks are spreading in Asia”, he continued together with “a new wave sweeping across Europe.”

The U.N. chief lamented the slowness of some vaccine take ups even as “a third of the planet is still lacking even one dose” saying trust is essential in government authorities.”

  8. Uh-huh! So much for “Christian” schools!!!!

EXCERPT: “A Florida high school history teacher has been arrested for having sexual correspondence with two female students, aged 18 and 14, and allegedly molesting the 14-year-old at the school, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Warning: This Story Contains Disturbing Details.

On Thursday, the PCSO arrested 39-year-old Derek Stribling of Lakeland hours after receiving word of his sexually explicit messages, WTSP reported. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd noted that Stribling is a history teacher, dean of students, basketball coach, and life-management coach at Crossroads Christian School in Lakeland, according to a press conference shared by WTVT.

The 18-year-old girl, identified by Judd as “Victim Number One,” was one of Stribling’s students at the school and informed investigators that on Valentine’s Day, the 39-year-old teacher requested her phone number, authorities said. “He reportedly told her he could check up on her following an argument she had with her dad, investigators said,” according to WTSP.

“Stribling told the victim that she had a ‘D’ in his class, and she could get extra credit to help her grades,” the sheriff’s office told the outlet via email. “He initiated a sexual conversation via text and on the FaceTime app.”

Investigators said Stribling pleasured himself while showing the student his private regions. He also attempted to get the 18-year-old to meet him for oral sex in a hotel parking lot, but the student refused to go, the PCSO said. Judd said she declined because he was married.

Judd noted that the investigation showed her grade ended up being an ‘A.’ “Isn’t that amazing?” Judd asked reporters. “So he used his position as her teacher and her low grade as the nexus, and they talked the nasty.”

The 18-year-old communicated with a 16-year-old, identified as “Victim Number Two,” who told Victim Number One that Stribling “did the same stuff with her” when she was 14 years old, Judd said.”

  9. EXCERPT: “A Danish soldier who volunteered to fight alongside the Ukrainian armed forces has made unverified claims that Ukrainian soldiers have been executing Russian prisoners of war. The Dane, who uses the pseudonym Jonas, has alleged that Ukrainian soldiers have killed Russian prisoners of war during the war, saying: “I have heard of one successful prisoner exchange, and that’s it,” and adding: “People are being killed.”

Said to be a marksman, Jonas travelled to Ukraine to volunteer to fight alongside the Ukrainian armed forces and told state-owned Danish broadcaster TV2 he has also killed Russian soldiers — but never any captured prisoners. He told the broadcaster of an 18-year-old Russian prisoner of war who told him he had worked as a compute programmer in Russia prior to the war and did not want to be in Ukraine. According to Jonas, the teen was buried the next day after being killed.

TV2 admitted that they had no way to confirm whether or not the Danish volunteer’s claims were accurate but still cited prior claims of similar behaviour by the Ukrainian armed forces.

Last month the official Facebook page of the Command of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine implied that surrendering Russian gunners would be executed, which in itself would be a war crime. “From now on, there will be no more captured Russian artillerymen. No mercy, no ‘please do not kill, I surrender’ will not pass,” the post stated, adding that such Russians would be “slaughtered like pigs.”

The post was subsequently edited to remove these comments, however, and it was followed by another post showing what they said was a video of a captured Russian who had “killed Ukrainian children with [a] jet fire system” and realised “the horror of what was happening [and] made a wise decision and gave up, falling under the Geneva Convention” — likely an attempt to reassure concerned Westerners that prisoners were not being “slaughtered” despite their earlier rhetoric.”

  10. This is such outright BS!!!! They CHOSE to put their son in the line of danger!!!! Frivolous lawsuits like this have contributed greatly to our judicial corruption!!!

EXCERPT: “The family of a boy who suffered a fractured skull from an errant ball that struck him at Angel Stadium three years ago is suing, accusing the team of negligence. Bryson Galaz, who was six at the time of the incident, had joined a crowd of autograph-seekers near the field-level box seats by third base when he was struck in the head by a ball thrown by Angels pitcher Keynan Middleton, according to the L.A. Times.

The family now says that the injury has had far-reaching consequences. “For three days, we didn’t know if my son was going to live or die,” the boy’s mother, Beatrice Galaz, said. “We were relieved that he survived, but since that day he has struggled in school. He’s simply not the same.”
    ———————–
Similar lawsuits have been ruled in favor of teams maintaining that fans should assume “the baseball rule” in that balls and bats may fly toward them during games. But the family attorney insists that this situation is different because the players were just warming up, not playing a game.”

  11. EXCERPTS: “McGraw said the following in a recent viral video when talking about working with Elliott:

‘He was just one of the nicest, sweetest guys in the world. But one particular day, I told Sam, I said, you know, thanks for doing this and being a part of this. I just wanted to let you know that I’ve learned so much from watching you. And he just looked at me and said, ‘Oh yeah? Well, I haven’t learned a f*cking thing from you.’ So, thanks, Sam! Enjoyed it.’

You can listen to his full comments below.
    ———————–
The legend of Sam Elliott, who recently went viral for his blunt comments about “Power of the Dog,” continues to grow and grow with every new story we hear. He’s arguably the most iconic western actor alive, other than maybe Kevin Costner. It’s a tough call, but they’re both right at the top of the list at 1A and 1B. Ever since Elliott’s comments about “Power of the Dog,” which were made right around the time of McGraw’s, there’s been a bizarre and laughable attempt to cancel him.

I guess those people never got the memo that Elliott isn’t cancelable. Not even close! He’s one of the biggest names in the game, has been rich forever and will always be able to work on westerns.

That’s just a fact. It would be like trying to cancel Clint Eastwood. It’s just not possible, and that’s a good thing.

  12. EXCERPT: “Two men who allegedly posed as federal law enforcement agents were tipped off to the FBI’s raid on their apartments, according to a court document filed Sunday.

Arian Taherzadeh, 40, and Haider Ali, 36, were arrested in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday for allegedly posing as Homeland Security agents since as early as February 2020 to buy off members of the Secret Service, including one officer assigned to First Lady Jill Biden’s security detail, according to an affidavit.

The suspects were allegedly tipped off before the FBI came for them, buying them time to stash guns and other possessions, according to the memo from U.S. attorney Matthew Graves.

The two are each charged with the federal offense of False Impersonation of an Officer of the United States, the U.S. attorney’s office said in a statement obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.”

  13. EXCERPT: “A Virginia parent won a legal victory when a Fairfax County judge dismissed four charges of libel and slander with prejudice Friday.

Harry Jackson, a former PTA president of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology who opposed changes to the school’s admissions policy, was facing libel and slander charges in the wake of claiming that a proponent of the new admissions policies exhibited “grooming behavior” on social media. The new policies, which critics have characterized as “race-based,” eliminated standardized testing requirements and were found by a federal judge to discriminate against Asian Americans.

“It was a great day for parents maintaining their right to free speech and if they see something of concern when it comes to child safety, to say something without fear of reprisal,” Jackson told the Daily Caller News Foundation.”

  14. EXCERPT: “The plot of the upcoming Amazon series with Josh Brolin, according to the trailer’s YouTube description, is as follows:

‘Outer Range centers on Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin), a rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness. A thrilling fable with hints of wry humor and supernatural mystery, Outer Range examines how we grapple with the unknown. At the onset of the series, the Abbotts are coping with the disappearance of daughter-in-law Rebecca. They are pushed further to the brink when the Tillersons (the gaudy owners of the neighboring profit-driven ranch) make a play for their land. An untimely death in the community sets off a chain of tension-filled events, and seemingly small-town, soil-bound troubles come to a head with the arrival of a mysterious black void in the Abbotts’ west pasture. Wild revelations unfold as Royal fights to protect his family; through his eyes, we begin to see how time contains secrets held in the past and unsettling mysteries foreshadowed.’

If the trailer is an accurate indication of what fans can expect from the movie, I think it’s safe to say “Outer Range” is going to be a very trippy and fun time. This movie looks absolutely excellent to me. It looks like it’s going to be a ton of fun. Thanks to the success of “Yellowstone,” everyone is trying to cash in on western and cowboy content.

“Outer Range” will definitely do that, but it’s also bringing fans a bit of paranormal action as well. That’s a very fun mix.

  15. Hmmm…..more on Musk/Twitter…..

EXCERPT: “Twitter did not reveal what caused the board agreement to fall apart. However, Musk “liked” a tweet in which a user suggested he backed out of the deal because Twitter executives told him to “play nice and not speak freely” on the platform.

Musk also amended an SEC filing on his Twitter holdings to suggest he will be outspoken about the company in the days ahead. The amended filing said Musk “may express his views to the Board and/or members of the Issuer’s management team and/or the public through social media or other channels with respect to the Issuer’s business, products and service offerings.”

Ives outlined three potential scenarios for Musk’s involvement with Twitter in the near future – suggesting he could partner with an activist investment firm to pressure the company; agitate for an overhaul himself through public calls for changes to the platform; or simply decide the investment is not worth the trouble and sell off his shares.

“In our opinion its likely paths 1 or 2 with the Street now focused on Musk’s next poker (next filing/stake in Twitter) move in this ongoing soap opera between Elon and Twitter,” Ives added. Musk’s change of heart suggests more discord is ahead for Twitter – which was already facing criticism from its own employees over the initial decision to offer the Tesla CEO a seat on its board.”
