The Andean cock-of-the-rock is the national bird of Peru and the male and female are visually distinct. The male has a striking bright red head with a large crest which wraps around over the beak. Both males and females have the crest though it is larger on the males. Males also have red breast feathers. Down the back the wings and tail are black with a large white patch in the center of the upper side. These wings are wide and strong to provide maneuverability to move through the forest. Their wingspan is 23.6-25.6in across. Females are much duller in color. Their feathers are a greenish or olive-brown color across their entire body.

Both genders have a short bill with a hooked shape. Males are slightly larger than the females. On average an Andean cock-of-the-rock will measure 12-12.5in long and weigh 7-9.5oz.

The Andean cock-of-the-rock is an omnivore. Their diet includes a range of fruits, berries and insects. Small vertebrates may also be eaten on occasion. They perform an important role in dispersing seeds from fruits they eat through the forest.

South America is the native home of the Andean cock-of-the-rock. Here they can be found throughout Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. As their name suggests they live in  parts of the Andes Mountain range.

They make their home in forests and wetlands. In addition to these they can be found in rocky gorges and ravines on the borders of rivers and streams. This habitat led to the rock portion of their name.

Breeding occurs from February to July though this can vary across parts of their range. Males will gather at a location known as a lek. Here up to 15 males will compete for the mating rights of a single family. A number of males will glare at one another before one dips its head and lets out their raucous call. The others begin to join before a display of wing-flapping and head bouncing occurs. Females may approach the males throughout and their displays intensify at this point. Young males will participate in the lek before sexual maturity to try and learn the ways to be successful.

Once a female selects the male she would like to mate with she will walk behind him and nibble at his feathers or peck his neck. Males will return to the lek after mating and try to attract another a mate. Females create a nest from mud, palm fiber and saliva which is shaped like a cup. This is built against a rock or in a cave. It may take a month for her to perfect her nest and she will not mate till this is complete.

Following a successful mating the female will deposit two eggs in the nest which she incubates alone for their 22-28 day incubation. One clutch is produced each year. At hatching the chicks are highly underdeveloped and the mother provides them with food. They require care for the next 45 days.

    not snowing currently but it can start up again. There’s about 2 good inches on the railings, but there’s snow all over the front deck–it has to be really windy for snow to blow in there–and it was howling last night!

        we’ve had it since Thanksgiving!
        it’s still snowing here. I shoveled off 2 inches to put out the feeder and there’s a thin layer of ice underneath. we may get another inch or two before it stops.

  6. I really hope someone puts up a defense for this man. An 85 year old farmer in Washington state was told by the Department of Ecology (that’s a Washington state thing I guess) that he’s not allowed to use all his water rights. He farms the family farm (his father before him farmed the SAME land) and there’s a road separating one part of his crops. The state told him he can no longer water the crops on one side of the road. He doesn’t understand their new position on this. He’s always watered both sides and NEVER used more water than what his rights allow. He can’t figure out why it matters if he waters both sides if he’s only using what his water rights allow.

    So, they fined him and continue to fine him and have placed a $100,000 lien on his property. This is an 85 year old man and they are trying to steal his farm!

    I wish i had the ability to get him a lawyer and help him fight this!

    The teacher, Jennifer Fasulo, agreed earlier this year to advise students who were seeking to launch a chapter of Club America, the high school affiliate of the conservative organization Turning Point USA, founded by the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk who was assassinated on a college campus in Utah. 

    Shortly after that decision, school officials put her on leave on January 30, according to district communications.

    In a letter sent to families on February 10, Baldwinsville Central School District confirmed a staff member had been placed on leave while “a matter is under review,” but did not offer specific details due to personnel privacy rules. The district emphasized its commitment to safety, inclusivity and respect for all in its community.

    Dozens of students launched an online petition backing Fasulo, arguing she’s being unfairly targeted for her political and spiritual views. One student quoted in local reports described her as an influential mentor whose absence has left classmates puzzled and disappointed.”

  11. Just The News: “Litigation brought by a key figure in the Russiagate scandal has quietly reached the Supreme Court, giving the nation’s nine justices a chance to weigh in on an investigation that has become a symbol of law-enforcement and intelligence abuses during the Obama-Biden era.

    Carter Page, an energy consultant who briefly served as a foreign policy adviser to President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, became the subject of an FBI counterintelligence investigation into possible Russian election interference known as Crossfire Hurricane.

    In 2020, Page filed a federal lawsuit seeking damages from then-FBI Director James Comey and other former officials, including former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. He alleged that they violated his constitutional rights by submitting false or misleading information to secure the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (FISA) warrant, and that he was wrongfully surveilled as part of a politically motivated investigation.

    Page sought hundreds of millions of dollars in damages, arguing that the surveillance severely harmed his reputation and career. Federal courts ultimately dismissed Page’s lawsuit. While the Justice Department acknowledged serious mistakes in the FISA process related to Page, the courts concluded that those errors did not entitle him to monetary damages from the named officials.

    The petition was filed with the Supreme Court on December 11, 2025, after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit affirmed the dismissal of Page’s lawsuit. The Supreme Court is currently considering whether to hear the case, Carter Page v. James B. Comey, in the 2025–2026 term, but as of now it has not made a final decision.

    The government has successfully asked for permission to delay its response until mid-March.

    Page’s lawyers argue that the case is important to civil liberties, and that the justices should allow victims of false FISA warrants to sue federal officials. “The Federal Bureau of Investigation obtained four warrants from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to surveil Petitioner Dr. CarterPage. But its applications contained multiple errors, omissions, and misstatements that the FBI later concluded vitiated its showing of probable cause,” Page’s lawyers argued.

    “Worse, it was later revealed that two agents leaked information about the FBI’s surveillance to the press, resulting in an April 2017 article in The Washington Post,” his motion added.”

    Radical lawmakers introduced “Concerning Legal Protections for The Dignity of a Minor” (SB 26-018) on Jan. 14, and the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the bill, referring it to the full Senate on Feb. 18.

    In its intended form, the bill requires courts to consider whether parents embrace their child’s “gender identity” when determining custody. Courts must favor parents who support their child’s “preferred name and pronouns” and push their child to receive harmful and damaging “transgender” drugs, hormones, and surgeries.

    The bill states courts must “consider whether the parties recognize the child’s identity as it relates to a protected class” when “determining parenting time and the allocation of decision-making responsibility.”

    Defining the “protected classes,” the bill references the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act, which includes individual’s “sexual orientation” and “gender identity.”Kids Removed from Parents

    While the bill seeks to regulate custody disputes, it also opens the door for courts or child protective services to remove transgender-identified kids from the custody of parents who believe in biological reality and don’t want to irreversibly harm their child with drugs and surgeries…..”

    SB 26-018 would establish “de jure” what is already happening in Colorado and in other states around the country —  even in red states like Indiana, Montana, Texas, and Arizona.

    When Krista and Todd Kolstad’s 14-year-old daughter landed in a Montana hospital for suicidal thoughts, her parents had no idea she would soon be taken from them. After the Kolstads’ daughter revealed her desire to “change genders,” Montana Child and Family Services removed her from their custody and relocated her to a treatment facility in Wyoming focused on “gender therapy.”

    “They have a complete agenda. We have no voice, no voice in court,” Todd said. “They just gag ordered us and threatened jail time.”

      1. And that’s BS anyway! None of my Egyptians were strict about everything during Ramadan, even the most devout of the group! The most they did was not smoke or drink during daylight hours, and had their traditional special meals, just like we do for Thanksgiving! One guy asked for a room to pray where there hadn’t been any dogs but that was the only specific request. This is all a ploy to control the population and dictate to everyone else.

  33. Just The News: “Former U.K. ambassador to the U.S. Peter Mandelson was arrested Monday amid an investigation into his connection to Jeffrey Epstein, according to London’s Metropolitan Police.

    Epstein was a wealthy, well-connected financier and convicted sex offender who died in 2019 awaiting trial on similar federal charges. Mandelson is a former Labour Party politician who allegedly passed market-sensitive information to Epstein when he was the UK business secretary, according to CNN.

    “Officers have arrested a 72-year-old man on suspicion of misconduct in public office, Metropolitan Police spokesperson said. “This follows search warrants at two addresses in the Wiltshire and Camden areas.”

    The latest batch of U.S. Justice Department files on Epstein released by the agency led to Mandelson’s resignation from the Labour Party earlier this month, after quitting the House of Lords the same week.

    Mandelson was fired from his ambassador role in September by U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer following a previous release of Epstein files, showing that Mandelson had called the late financier “my best pal” in a handwritten note for his 50th birthday.

    Last week, former Prince Andrew also was arrested for misconduct in office, for allegedly, while a U.K. trade envoy, having shared sensitive information with Epstein.”

    Patel confirmed he was partying in the locker room with the American team after a video was posted to social media of him drinking a beer, spraying it in the locker room and yelling as the players sang Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the USA” after their thrilling 2-1 overtime win over Canada at the 2026 Milan Cortina Game on Sunday.

          i didn’t realize there were 2 hunters. and at first i saw the hump on the moose’s back, then i thought the hump fell off and that’s what he was stomping on because then the second hunter came into view (which i thought was the first)…never mind…LOLOLOL
