Birds That Mate for Life: Part 1

Just Birding lists these 8 birds as top picks for Birds That Mate for Life.

Bald Eagle

Bald eagle pairs are the power couples of the avian world. Found in North America, these birds of prey have a large fan base. People get excited when they see them in the wild and love photographing them. They are the national bird of the USA, and their noble appearance suggests that they are quite aware of their dignified status symbol. Male and females are clothing coordinated with matching brown plumage, stunning white heads, and yellow beaks.

They play and work hard together to achieve the mutual goals of living life to the fullest and raising successful offspring. When it comes to romance, bald eagle pairs really fall for each other by putting on stellar courtship performances that involve flying up to a high altitude and locking talons before tumbling in a series of cartwheels in mid-air. Bald eagles often live solitary lives throughout the year but always return to the same mate every breeding season. They remain faithful to their partners except in rare instances of impotency. They often return to the same nest every year, adding to the existing structure each time. Their nests are the largest of any North American bird and one of the largest in the world. Together, pairs raise one to three chicks per nest.

 Mute Swan (pictured above)

While all swans mate for life, mute swans are the picture of classic romance. You’ve probably seen them in photographs, movies or your neighborhood pond. Courting pairs are famous for curving their long necks toward each other and creating aheart shape, as if communicating, “I love you.” They also lift their wings and gracefully bow to one another. Native to North Africa, Europe, and Asia but widely introduced to North America, southern Africa, and Australia, mute swans are beautiful birds with white plumage and orange beaks that are marked with a black knob.

It’s been said that a mute swan will grieve if its mate dies. Some experts suggest that birds don’t have emotions as we humans do. However, there is a report from a Russian zoo in 2015 of a mute swan whodied of a broken heart shortly after his mate was killed. They are called mute swans because they are not as vocal as other swan breeds, but when it comes to courting and defending their loved ones, they know how to be heard with hissing, grunting and honking. Pairs usually return to the same nest every year and share in the care of five to seven eggs.

Mourning Dove a.k.a Turtle Dove

You’ve seen those couples who are inseparable. Where you see one, you’ll see the other. The mourning doves are those “lovey-dovey” (pun totally intended) couples of the bird world. Along with other doves, they are often seen as symbols of both love and peace, two of the most important traits you need for a successful relationship. These sweet birds are light tan and gray with long, pointed tails and wings that are marked with black spots. The appearance of their plump bodies, short legs, and small beak make them easily recognized. If alarmed, they fly off quickly with their wings making a whistling sound.

Mourning doves get their name from their “mournful” cooing call. Most of the time, this is the male making the call to woo the female. He will also fluff up his feathers and bob his head when trying to win her over. Once the female accepts the male’s advances, the male will then bring her twigs to build a nest. After the female lays two eggs, both she and her partner will take turns incubating and feeding them.

Scarlet Macaw

Found in family groups in the rainforests of South America, scarlet macaws are known for being strikingly colorful birds. They sport red, blue and yellow feathers. They are noisy, funny and intelligent, and they are devoted lovers and parents. Not only do they mate for life, but scarlet macaws are attentive to one another. They share food, lick each other’s faces, and enjoy mutual preening. Other birds that mate for life sometimes are known to live separately until the breeding season, but these macaws value family life and can always be seen hanging out with one another.

When the kids come along, they usually raise two to four chicks at a time in a nest that they build in a tree hollow. Both Mom and Dad take care of their young, from incubating the eggs to feeding the nestlings. Scarlet macaws take parenting seriously and will not mate again until their current juveniles are able to live independently, which could be up to two years.

  2. Just The News: “President Donald Trump admitted Wednesday that he learned his administration could use a “softer touch” on immigration after weeks of protests in Minneapolis over its immigration enforcement operations.

Minneapolis has been a hotspot for Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids in the wake of revelations of large-scale public fraud linked to the Somali expat community in Minnesota. Tensions were further heightened last month as two protesters were shot and killed as they attempted to interfere with federal agents.

Trump acknowledged the response to his immigration policies during an interview with NBC anchor Tom Llamas, but said his response would still need to be firm given how dangerous the illegal migrants are.

“I learned that maybe we can use a little bit of a softer touch, but you still have to be tough,” Trump said in an excerpt from the “NBC Nightly News” interview. “These are really hard criminals. But look, I’ve called the people. I’ve called the mayor. Spoke to them. Had great conversations with them, and then I see them ranting and raving out there literally as if a call wasn’t made.”

The comment comes just hours after Trump border czar Tom Homan said 700 federal law enforcement officers will leave Minnesota in the near future. As of late last month, there were roughly 3,000 federal immigration officers in Minnesota.

The president’s interview will air on NBC Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. Eastern.”

  3. EXCERPT: “In the aftermath of a major lawsuit award, two major American medical associations have backed away from the least reversible procedures in so-called gender-affirming care for minors.

Now the biggest thing holding back the American medical establishment from fully repudiating the medicalization of gender confusion — from puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to surgical removal of healthy breasts and genitals — may be short statutes of limitations for medical liability lawsuits. And the Trump administration and red-state legislation are pressing to change those statutes.

Friday’s $2 million New York jury award for a detransitioner against her psychologist and plastic surgeon set off a scramble in the mainstream media to downplay its threat to the broader field while prompting predictions from detransitioners and lawyers that this was just the beginning of a legal tsunami.

“Every doctor and clinic involved in this fad should be very afraid for what comes next,” Chloe Cole, perhaps the highest-profile detransitioner in America, said through her lawyers at the Center for American Liberty, which is representing several detransitioners in litigation. The verdict “gives real hope to the next generation of detransitioners seeking justice,” she said.

The verdict “sets an incredible precedent” especially coming out of politically blue New York, according to detransitioner Prisha Mosley, an ambassador for the Independent Women’s Forum who has testified in state legislatures. She said she hopes it encourages “others to come forward and hold their doctors accountable too.”

Mosley’s lawsuit against her providers foundered on North Carolina’s statute of limitations but has another chance thanks to the Legislature extending it over Democratic Gov. Josh Stein’s veto. She’s now waiting for an appeals court to consider her appeal…..”

    Know Your Immigration Rights

If you or a loved one encounter immigration enforcement officials, it is essential that you know your rights and have prepared your household for all possible outcomes.

Ask for a warrant: The Fourth Amendment of the Constitution protects you from unreasonable search and seizure. You do not have to open your door until you see a valid warrant to enter your home or search your belongings.

Your right to remain silent: The Fifth Amendment protects your right to remain silent and not incriminate yourself. You are not required to share any personal information such as your place of birth, immigration status or criminal history.

Always consult an attorney: You have a right to speak with an attorney. You do not have to sign anything or hand officials any documents without speaking to an attorney. Try to identify and consult one in advance.

The New York City Office of Civil Justice and the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) support a variety of free immigration legal services through local nonprofit legal organizations. 1. Here are their demands

Dear Speaker Johnson and Leader Thune:

We write with respect to fiscal year 2026 funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). For months, the American people have watched in horror as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has terrorized communities across the country. After months of escalation against everyday Americans and law-abiding immigrant families, two U.S. citizens were killed in the streets of Minneapolis. Federal immigration agents cannot continue to cause chaos in our cities while using taxpayer money that should be used to make life more affordable for working families. The American people rightfully expect their elected representatives to take action to rein in ICE and ensure no more lives are lost. It is critical that we come together to impose common sense reforms and accountability measures that the American people are demanding. We believe Congress needs to enact the following guardrails:

      1. Targeted Enforcement – DHS officers cannot enter private property without a judicial warrant. End indiscriminate arrests and improve warrant procedures and standards. Require verification that a person is not a U.S. citizen before holding them in immigration detention.
      2. No Masks – Prohibit ICE and immigration enforcement agents from wearing face coverings.
      3. Require ID – Require DHS officers conducting immigration enforcement to display their agency, unique ID number and last name. Require them to verbalize their ID number and last name if asked.
      4. Protect Sensitive Locations – Prohibit funds from being used to conduct enforcement near sensitive locations, including medical facilities, schools, child-care facilities, churches, polling places, courts, etc.
      5. Stop Racial Profiling – Prohibit DHS officers from conducting stops, questioning and searches based on an individual’s presence at certain locations, their job, their spoken language and accent or their race and ethnicity.
      6. Uphold Use of Force Standards – Place into law a reasonable use of force policy, expand training and require certification of officers. In the case of an incident, the officer must be removed from the field until an investigation is conducted.
      7. Ensure State and Local Coordination and Oversight – Preserve the ability of State and local jurisdictions to investigate and prosecute potential crimes and use of excessive force incidents. Require that evidence is preserved and shared with jurisdictions. Require the consent of States and localities to conduct large-scale operations outside of targeted immigration enforcement.
      8. Build Safeguards into the System – Make clear that all buildings where people are detained must abide by the same basic detention standards that require immediate access to a person’s attorney to prevent citizen arrests or detention. Allow states to sue DHS for violations of all requirements. Prohibit limitations on Member visits to ICE facilities regardless of how those facilities are funded.
      9. Body Cameras for Accountability, Not Tracking – Require use of body-worn cameras when interacting with the public and mandate requirements for the storage and access of footage. Prohibit tracking, creating or maintaining databases of individuals participating in First Amendment activities.
      10. No Paramilitary Police – Regulate and standardize the type of uniforms and equipment DHS officers carry during enforcement operations to bring them in line with civil enforcement.

These reforms should apply to all federal activity, whether funded by FY26 appropriations, the OBBBA or any other act.

Furthermore, there are steps that the Trump administration has the power to take right now to show good faith, including fully ramping down the surge in Minnesota and removing Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem from her position.

These are common sense solutions that protect constitutional rights and ensure responsible law enforcement.

      Sincerely,

  5. Just The News: “New York City artist Scott LoBaido, who has made a career out of patriotic artwork, is on a new time-sensitive mission. He wants to install a 150-foot American flag at Ground Zero as a lasting reminder before the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.

LoBaido told Just the News this week that more than 88,000 people have signed his petition to put the giant flag at the site and that Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis has offered to fund the installation.

The artist said he got the idea after he visited the location of the memorial and realized there was an absence of noticeable American flags near the Freedom Tower. He felt called to fill the void.

“I’ve been a patriotic artist for my last 40 years,” LoBaido said Monday on the “Just The News, No Noise” TV show. “I saw patriotism. It was taboo back in the 90s, and I said, ‘I’m going to use my art to paint American flags.’ I painted flags on buildings in every state throughout this country, and the flag is the most beautiful work of art.

“I know we’re going through a lot of hell right now with patriotism and what’s right, what’s not,” he continued. “We can’t do anything without that flag and those who died underneath it. So that flag should not be taboo. It should not be an embarrassment to fly it. The more the merrier. A country that loses its patriotism ceases to become a country.”

The artist said that he has given his presentation on the giant flag to the museum and just needs approval from the Port Authority and the museum’s board now that he has seen a lot of support from Americans, including “heavy hitters.”

LoBaido added that if approved, he hopes to have the flag installed by Flag Day on June 14, so that it’s also up for the anniversary and the Fourth of July, when America celebrates its 250th anniversary. Readers who want to support LoBaido’s efforts to install the American flag at Ground Zero can sign his petition here.”

  6. Wes Moore, Governor of Maryland tells a family history of a black preacher run out of America by the Klan…but the history he tells–the honors he claims, are false. surprise…

    FTA

But there’s a problem with Moore’s story: It’s flatly contradicted by historical records and is almost certainly false.

Moore’s great-grandfather on his mother’s side, the Rev. Josiah Johnson Thomas, did preach in the 1920s at a church in Pineville, S.C., about 65 miles north of Charleston. But historical records housed at the archives of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the Diocese of South Carolina undercut the three main elements of Moore’s story—that Thomas suddenly fled the country in secret, that he was targeted by the Ku Klux Klan, and that he was a prominent preacher who spoke from the pulpit against racism.

Detailed church archival records, as well as contemporary newspaper coverage, indicate that Thomas, a Jamaica native, on Dec. 13, 1924, made an orderly and public transfer from South Carolina to the island of his birth, where he was appointed to succeed a prominent Jamaican pastor who had died unexpectedly a week earlier, on Dec. 6, 1924. Amid the copious documentation of the life and career of Moore’s great-grandfather, there is no mention of trouble with the Klan, which operated openly in 1920s South Carolina but never had a chapter operating out of Pineville, according to Virginia Commonwealth University’s Mapping of the Second Ku Klux Klan.

Many families tell larger-than-life stories about their forebears that wouldn’t hold up to scrutiny. But your typical family-tree fabulist isn’t preparing to run for president. And Moore’s fantastical tale of his great-grandfather’s escape from the Ku Klux Klan to exile to Jamaica adds yet another asterisk to his remarkably inflated résumé—about which the press have asked him very little.

Moore falsely claimed that he was born and grew up in Baltimore, which he did not; that he was inducted into the Maryland College Football Hall of Fame, an organization that doesn’t exist; that he received a Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan, which he had not; that in 2006 he was considered a foremost expert on radical Islam based on his graduate thesis, which he never submitted to Oxford University’s library and can no longer locate; that he was a doctoral candidate at Oxford in 2006, a claim he has no documentation to support and on which Oxford refuses to comment; and that he had “a difficult childhood in the Bronx and Baltimore” despite attending New York City’s elite, private Riverdale Country School—where John F. Kennedy went to school—as a child and not living in Baltimore until college, when he attended Johns Hopkins University, another elite private school.

Moore’s story about his grandfather may be 100 years old, but for centuries, churches, including those that served poor communities, have kept detailed records about their congregants and, even more so, about their clergy. Moore’s great-grandfather, referred to as the “Rev. J.J. Thomas” in contemporary reporting, served as a clergyman at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Pineville, S.C., under the South Carolina Colored Convocation, according to the annual directories of the Episcopal Church. Based about 60 miles north of Charleston, Thomas worked at the church from 1922 to late 1924, following an eight-year stint preaching at various Presbyterian churches throughout South Carolina and Georgia.

But from there, Moore’s narrative falls apart. During an appearance on Andrew Yang’s podcast in 2020, Moore said the Ku Klux Klan ran his grandfather and “the rest of my family out of this country, not just out of Charleston, South Carolina.” Time added to the narrative in 2023, reporting that Moore’s great-grandfather was “targeted for lynching,” making the governor “well acquainted with the case against America.” Moore said in a May commencement speech at Lincoln University, a historically black college in Pennsylvania, that his grandfather was “chased away by the Ku Klux Klan” because “my great-grandfather was a vocal minister in the community.”

  7. Just The News: “The Department of Homeland Security reported that there were more than 180 vehicle attacks on officers over the first year of President Trump’s second term in office.

There have been 182 vehicle attacks against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents since Jan. 21, 2025, according to DHS on Tuesday.

ICE officers have experienced 68 vehicular attacks against them from the start of Trump’s second term to Jan. 24, 2026, after only two occurred over the same time in the previous year.

CBP agents experienced 114 vehicular attacks against them, up from only 51 the prior year. Last month, two illegal immigrants who are suspected Tren de Aragua gang associates “weaponized their vehicle against Border Patrol in Portland,” according to DHS. The Border Patrol agent shot them in self-defense, and the two illegal immigrants were hospitalized.

“Sanctuary politicians with their rhetoric comparing ICE to the Nazi Gestapo, slave patrols, and the secret police and encouraging illegal aliens to evade arrest have incited violence against law enforcement,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said.

“We have seen more than 180 vehicle attacks against law enforcement since President Trump took office. In addition to these vehicle attacks, our officers are also facing a more than 1,300% increase in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats as they risk their lives to arrest murderers, pedophiles, rapists, gang members, and terrorists.”

  8. I saw a new show advertised on HGTV called “Neighborhood Watch” showing clips of doorbell videos – I set a few of them to record so I could check it out. OMG! It is hysterically funny!!! One scenario in the first episode is of a woman in Omaha who is drinking beer and driving her golf cart over to visit a friend. Beer can in hand, she turns into the driveway, then hits the pedal and smashes into the front of the house! She drops the beer and her phone and falls off the cart, landing on her butt sitting upright up against the porch. She manages to get up to stop the cart from rolling down the driveway, hits the pedal and AGAIN smashes into the house! ROFLMAO

  9. EXCERPT: “President Trump has expanded the Mexico City Policy, which blocked U.S. foreign aid to organizations that promote or support abortion, to also block aid going to organizations that promote gender ideology. Trump’s presidency has been characterized by putting American interests first. This revision to the Mexico City Policy reflects one element of this: standing for biological reality.

“The Department does not believe taxpayer dollars should support sex-rejecting procedures, directly or indirectly for individuals of any age,” the policy states. “A person’s body (including its organs, organ systems, and processes natural to human development like puberty) either healthy or unhealthy based on whether they are operating according to their biological functions.”

For too long, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have operated as activist groups for transgender ideology under the guise of global humanitarian assistance. In one case, USAID was funding three transgender clinics in India. Another USAID grant issued $15 million for condoms for the Taliban. Another $47,020 funded a transgender opera in Colombia.

Under Secretary Rubio’s leadership, the State Department has torn down this facade and ensured that taxpayer dollars don’t fund thinly disguised ideology. The real work of NGOs – from disaster relief to providing health care to impoverished areas – is too important to allow ideologues to use it to instead promote the erasure of women and biological sex.

President Trump’s new policy, Promoting Human Flourishing in Foreign Assistance (PHFFA), ensures that American taxpayer dollars aren’t funding overseas what is already banned at home. Under this policy, NGOs must affirm the reality of two distinct biological sexes and organize single-sex spaces where appropriate in accordance with those categories to continue receiving funding from the United States. This rule affects more than $30 billion of foreign aid related to global health…..”

    1. Beware of that site – not trustworthy, IMO.

“No, the SAVE Act does not legalize anyone or grant legal status to those born in the U.S. Instead, it is a proposed voting bill that would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship—such as a birth certificate or passport—for individuals registering to vote in federal elections.

The Act does not change who is legally considered a citizen. Birthright citizenship, established under the 14th Amendment, already applies to nearly all individuals born in the U.S. The SAVE Act focuses on verifying citizenship for voter registration, not expanding or granting it.  Critics argue it could disenfranchise eligible voters—especially married women, low-income individuals, and people of color—who may lack immediate access to required documents, even though they are citizens.”

    @mattvanswol
    I have truly horrific news…

An illegal alien driving a semi-truck has just crashed head-on into a van of Amish men, k*lling 4 of them.

It appears the trucking company that employed the illegal is based out of California and is known as a “chameleon carrier”…

…which are trucking companies that re-register under new names to evade safety violations.

The Amish men who lost their lives to this illegal alien are:

    Henry Eicher, 50.

His sons: Menno Eicher, 25, and Paul Eicher, 19.

    and Simon Girod, 23.

There will be no protests for them.
Their story won’t be in the mainstream news.

    Please pray for their families.

    1. A father found out that his son’s middle school, Cascade Middle School in Seattle (part of

), brought him to an anti-ICE protest in middle of the school day.

His son’s teacher left the classroom with all the other students, leaving him alone in the classroom. He didn’t want to be alone and therefore went along.

The teachers took the kids on a walk through White Center, Washington for the protest. Many areas there aren’t particularly safe.

Per the father, the school alleged that they gave the kids options if they wanted to go or not.

They also claimed that it was the kids’ choice to protest and that the teachers were just joining.

Per the school’s principal, both teachers and school security were in attendance.

This violates Washington State law 28A.605.010, which prohibits children from being removed from school grounds during school hours without permission from the children’s parents or legal guardian.

  13. Billboards expressing support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and calling out “liberal hypocrisy” sprung up in several swing states Wednesday as federal law enforcement officers continue to face protests and harassment from anti-ICE activists.

“ICE officers are: fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, friends,” reads one of the billboards put up by conservative nonprofit Citizens for Sanity in high-traffic commuter routes in Georgia, North Carolina and Michigan. “Let them do their jobs,” reads another placard, which includes illustrations of ICE agents in tactical gear.

Another billboard reminds the public that “interfering with federal law enforcement operations is a crime. You could go to jail,” the sign warns. One of the adverts quotes remarks from former President Barack Obama’s days as senator, where he argued, “Americans are right to demand better border security and better enforcement of the immigration laws. Hey liberals, what’s changed?” the sign asks passersby.

  14. “Was the Trump/Elon Feud Fake?”

    Clandestine, Feb 05, 2026

    “Observe the timeline:

June 2025, Trump and Elon have a very public social media spat that leads to a falling out, in which Elon claims Trump is in the Epstein files. The result of this feud was a MASSIVE rise in public interest in Epstein, particularly on the Left.

Jump to the present, Trump and Elon have slowly and quietly gotten back on good terms. Elon has attended multiple events with Trump, including private dinners, Scavino’s wedding, Charlie Kirk’s memorial service, and a White House dinner with Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman.

Elon dropped his whole “America Party” opposition to Trump, publicly said he will back the GOP in the 2026 midterms, and donated to Republicans PACs in order to prevent the “radical Left takeover”.

Now the new batch of Epstein files comes out, proving that Epstein was a Democrat financier/puppeteer, and shows that Trump and Epstein were enemies. Trump was mentioned many times, but not because he was implicated in any crimes, but because the Democrats were emailing each other about how to stop Trump from becoming President, and how to sabotage him once he was in office.

So technically, Elon was telling the truth about Trump being in the Epstein files, but has ambiguity coerced a large portion of the public, particularly the Left, to be interested in the release of the Epstein files, because they thought it led to getting Trump.

Surprise! It led to the Democrats, which Elon already knew from the beginning.

So what’s the end result of the feud? Trump and Elon are still working together to defeat the Democrats, and Elon managed to get Democrat politicians and their voters to demand the released of the Epstein files, which he knew would lead to the Democrats.

Yes, I am suggesting that the Trump and Elon feud was fake, and they psyopped the Left into caring about Epstein. The only other option, is that it was just an extremely fortunate coincidence.”

  15. Just The News: “Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit Thursday against the Muslim Brotherhood, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and its Austin, Houston, and DFW chapters to prevent the organizations from operating in Texas.

The lawsuit comes after Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott designated both organizations as foreign terrorist organizations and transnational criminal organizations last year, which forbids them and their affiliates from purchasing or acquiring land in Texas and allows increased enforcement against the groups.

Paxton claimed in a news release that the Muslim Brotherhood exists to “usurp governmental power and establish dominion through sharia law,” and that a founding member of CAIR Texas was convicted in 2008 of funneling $12.4 million to Hamas through the Holy Land Foundation.

“Sharia law and the jihadists who follow sharia law have no business being in Texas,” Paxton said. “I am in full support of Governor Abbott’s lawful declaration that CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood are foreign terrorist organizations, and it’s imperative that they are stopped from operating in Texas. Radical Islamic terrorists are antithetical to law and order, endanger the people of Texas, and are an existential threat to our values,” he added.

Neither group has been declared a terrorist organization by the federal government, and CAIR dismissed the lawsuit as “another frivolous, politically motivated anti-Muslim publicity stunt.”

“Just as Mr. Paxton’s attempt to shut down a Latino voting rights group failed last week, his latest attempt to silence a minority group also appears doomed to fail,” CAIR said in a statement. “The people of Texas elected Mr. Paxton to serve them, not to silence them for daring to oppose Israel’s genocide in Gaza. CAIR-Texas plans to continue serving and protecting the people of Texas long after Ken Paxton leaves office.”

She’s also been out to the corn block trying to chip away at it. hoping she comes to the feeder. no sign of a male yet though. And definitely no robins thus far.
