    1. Morning, Pat! Stay warm! 12 here this morning with scattered low clouds. Supposed to hit 32 today & clear; snow showers tomorrow am & up to 25. Starting Sunday, no daytime temps below freezing thru February.

Getting ready to make the switch to the local bank…..man, I hate change!!! I get everything down to a routine, then have to start all over again! But this will be the last time! IDK whether Wheezer came around last night or not since I brought the food inside so the tuna didn’t freeze.

    1. Well, I disagree with that last one…..just for one example: enforcing our immigration laws is a good thing…..sometimes, people HAVE to be forced into compliance.

Democrats Plan To Shutdown ICE Funding Has Already Been Foiled
In July, Congress passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, setting aside roughly $170β€―billion for immigration enforcement and border security, including about $75 billion in supplemental funding for ICE, making it one of the most heavily funded federal law enforcement agencies.
Even if parts of the federal government shut down at the end of the week, ICE and CBP operations in Minneapolis and across the country are expected to continue uninterrupted. ICE agents are classified as β€œexcepted” workers, allowing them to remain on duty during a funding lapse, and the agency still has substantial carryover funds from last year’s Trump-backed appropriations.

  3. Just The News: β€œPresident Donald Trump’s Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative, conceptualized and led prominently by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has focused on overhauling federal nutrition policy, and now they are taking that health initiative straight to America’s frontline: U.S. service members.

Earlier this month, new Dietary Guidelines for Americans (2025–2030) were released, emphasizing nutrient-dense whole foods like high-quality proteins, healthy fats, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains while limiting ultra-processed foods, added sugars, and seed oils. The rollout included a total revamp of the traditional food pyramid, which is now inverted and places protein and healthy fats at the broadest part at the top as opposed to starches and complex carbohydrates.

These new guidelines influence multiple areas under the purview of the federal government: federal food programs like SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children) including meals in schools, hospitals, prisons, and military dining facilities (DFACs or chow halls).

It has not yet been determined whether the dietary guidelines will affect the manufacture of MRE’s (Meals Ready to Eat) used by soldiers in the field far from camp mess halls. A 2020 clinical trial indicated that MRE’s can provide a more micronutrient-dense diet than usual dietary intake, aiding in maintenance of nutritional status over 21 days.

Since the Department of War aligns its nutrition standards with federal dietary recommendations, the changes are expected to shift military meals toward more real, nutrient-rich foods and away from heavily processed options.

β€œAn army marches on its stomach”

Earlier this month, U.S. Navy Under Secretary Hung Cao reenlisted Navy Culinary Specialist (CS) First Class, Bukenya Babirye. Cao, who is a former Navy captain and fled communist Vietnam as a child, thanked the chefs who keep morale high in the Department of the Navy and across the fleet.

β€œA good meal brings up morale. You have a crappy day, when people come in whether it’s rainy or cold outside, you get that warm meal. It makes the difference in morale. So thank you for what you guys do,” Cao told the gathering of Navy culinary staff.

During Trump’s 2024 campaign, he promised to bring morale and respect back to America’s Armed Forces, which included incorporating the MAHA agenda into the military. During the Biden administration, the US military faced several recruitment shortfalls and widespread reports of declining morale, with the army recruiting only 45,000 soldiers in 2022 against a goal of 60,000, amid criticisms of policy impacts on readiness.

Very early in Trump’s second term, military recruitment experienced a dramatic surge, with services exceeding goals and posting some of the strongest numbers in over a decade and a half. Observers have credited the shift and leadership with restoring the β€œwarrior spirit,” boosting recruitment momentum, and improving overall military morale and focus on lethality.

Napoleon once allegedly declared, β€œAn army marches on its stomach,” underscoring how reliable meals fuel campaigns and prevent collapse from hunger or disease. In the United States military, cooks have been integral since the Revolutionary War, when Continental Army companies assigned soldiers to prepare basic rations like hardtack and salted meat, helping prevent starvation and maintain fighting strength during prolonged campaigns.

From the Civil War’s regimental mess systems that combated malnutrition amid supply shortages to modern culinary specialists in dining facilities and field kitchens, U.S. military cooks have consistently boosted morale, reduced illness, and enhanced combat readiness by delivering nutritious meals critical to mission success.”

  4. Just The News: β€œThe State Department on Tuesday confirmed that the United States has finished its withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, which was an international agreement that aimed to slow global warming.

President Donald Trump ordered the U.S. to withdraw from the historic agreement last year, which committed signing nations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the goal of limiting the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees celsius of warming above pre-industrial levels.

β€œThe Paris Climate Agreement undercuts American energy independence, seeks climate finance redistribution, and tries to enforce net-zero compliance pressure,” the State Department posted on X. β€œ[President Trump] says no more. Our taxpayer dollars will not be given to countries that do not merit financial assistance.”

The move comes after Trump announced earlier this month that he was withdrawing the United States from 66 international organizations that have contrary interests to the country.

The Trump administration announced last week that it completed the U.S.’s withdrawal from the World Health Organization, which the president also ordered last year over its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

  5. EXCERPT: “Investigating the H-1B visa worker processes is theΒ latest action Gov. Greg Abbott is taking to address taxpayer-funded programs benefitting noncitizens in Texas. On Tuesday, the governorΒ directedΒ all state agencies and publicly funded higher education institutions to freeze H-1B visa petitions and launch a review of current program use.

“The economy of Texas should work for the benefit of Texas workers and Texas employers,” Abbott said. “In light of recent reports of abuse in the federal H-1B visa program, and amid the federal government’s ongoing review of that program to ensure American jobs are going to American workers, I am directing all state agencies to immediately freeze new H-1B visa petitions. State government must lead by example and ensure that employment opportunities – particularly those funded with taxpayer dollars – are filled by Texans first.”

The directive prohibits state agencies whose directors are appointed by the governor from initiating or filing any new H-1B visa petitions until the end of the next legislative session next May – indicating that visa restriction legislation is being drafted.

Abbott directed all state agencies to provide the Texas Workforce Commission with a report about program use, including: how many new and renewal H-1B petitions they submitted in 2025; how many H-1B visa holders they currently employ, their countries of origin, job classifications and descriptions for each visa holder; the anticipated expiration date for each visa holder, and documentation proving they gave qualified Texas candidates a reasonable opportunity to apply for each position before hiring a H-1B visa holder.

The directive also applies to all public higher education institutions.

State agencies and higher education institutions collectively employ hundreds of thousands of Texans and significantly shape the state labor market…..”

  6. Hmmmm…..this is odd since we have E-15 gasoline available all year long! I saw it on the pump @ Casey’s yesterday when I got gas! I’ve been using it in my truck for years, starting with the E-10. We also have an ethanol plant a mile or so to the east. A lot of people here work there.

Just The News: “President Donald Trump urged CongressΒ during his speechΒ in Iowa Tuesday to finalize a deal that would approve the year-round sale of ethanol gasoline, stating that once it did so, he would “sign it without delay.”

The push comes after the topic threatened to derail the House’s passage of a government funding bill last week as Republican lawmakers remain divided on the legislation based on whether they are representing the interests of the oil industry versus farmers,Β according toΒ The Hill.Β

Trump acknowledged that he supported year-round E15 sales, which refers to the high ethanol gas that has an ethanol content of up to 15%, while on the campaign trail in 2024 but said any deal would need to work for farmers and refiners.

β€œThe people of Iowa know that I am trusting Speaker Mike Johnson, who’s great, and [Senate Majority] Leader John Thune, who’s great … to find a deal that works for farmers, consumers and refiners, including small and mid-sized refiners,” Trump said. β€œIn other words, to get E15 approved, and they’re working on it. They’re very close to getting it done.”

Thune, who is from South Dakota,Β confirmedΒ that he is committed to getting the E15 legislation “across the finish line,” and said he even spoke to the president about the topic on Tuesday morning.Β

“I’ve spoken to the president on numerous occasions, including as recently as this morning, about [E15s] importance to places like South Dakota, so I appreciate hearing him reiterate his support for it today during his trip to the Midwest,” Thune posted on X. “Implementation of year-round E15 would be a huge win for South Dakota producers and would boost the agriculture economy and rural communities across the nation.

“I remain committed to continue working with my colleagues in Congress to get a year-round E15 proposal across the finish line and to the president’s desk,” he added.”

In 2026, the β€œworkarounds” used by Minnesota NGOs in the food and childcare sectors have shifted significantly due to a volatile federal landscape.

While the 1969 Tax Reform Act sought to keep charities out of politics, these groups now use β€œAdministrative Lobbying” and β€œCrisis Organizing” to protect their funding streams.

Here is how the system is currently functioning for food and childcare NGOs in Minnesota:

    1. The Childcare β€œCrisis” WorkaroundChildcare is the most heavily lobbied sector in Minnesota right now. Because private foundations cannot lobby for specific bill numbers, they fund β€œCrisis Workgroups” that produce the data used by (c4) advocates. The NGO: Think Small (a 501(c)(3)) is the β€œbrain” of this network.
The Strategy: In late 2025 and early 2026, Think Small used foundation grants to collect stories from 7,000+ families on the β€œEarly Learning Scholarship” waitlist.
The Workaround: While Think Small produces the β€œWaitlist Report” (non-partisan research), their partner, the Minnesota Child Care Association (MCCA), uses their (c4) status to lobby legislators like Rep. Cheryl Youakim and Sen. Mary Kunesh. They argue that since the research shows a β€œcrisis,” the state must bridge the gap caused by recent federal funding freezes.
2026 Lobbying Subject: β€œLicensing Modernization” and β€œGreat Start Compensation.” By framing this as a technical fix for the workforce, they avoid the β€œpartisan” label while securing massive state subsidies.
    2. The Food Assistance β€œAdministrative” LoopholeFood insecurity groups like Hunger Solutions and The Food Group have moved away from traditional lobbying and into β€œAgency Intervention.” The Tactic: With the Trump administration’s 2025-2026 push for in-person SNAP re-verifications and the β€œOne Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBBA) cuts, Minnesota NGOs pivoted.
The Workaround: Instead of just lobbying the legislature, these NGOs are funding β€œLegal and Technical Navigators.” They use foundation money to pay staff who work directly with the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) to find state-level β€œwaivers” or β€œlegal workarounds” to keep food benefits flowing despite federal blocks.
Legislative Champions: They are most frequently meeting with Rep. Mohamud Noor (Chair of Human Services) to discuss β€œFood Sovereignty” grantsβ€”a state-specific funding pool that bypasses federal SNAP restrictions.
    3. β€œDark Money” in Childcare Fraud InvestigationsA unique 2026 workaround involves the use of 501(c)(4) Action Funds to fight back against fraud allegations. After a viral video in late 2025 alleged widespread fraud in Minnesota’s childcare assistance, federal funds were frozen. The Strategy: NGOs used Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) to quietly funnel money into a (c4) media campaign.
The Logic: If a foundation directly funded a PR campaign to discredit a federal fraud investigation, it would violate the 1969 Act. However, by using a DAF to fund an β€œAction Fund,” the donors remain anonymous, and the (c4) is free to run aggressive ads targeting the administration’s β€œpretext and grandstanding.”

Summary of the β€œMinnesota Method”In 2026, the Reece Committee’s old fear of β€œfoundations shaping policy” has become a formalized science. Minnesota foundations fund the β€œEvidence Base” (the (c3) side), which then β€œarms” the (c4) advocacy groups to meet with key committee chairs. Because the foundations are technically only funding β€œresearch on hungry children” or β€œdata on childcare costs,” they remain in full compliance with the law while effectively directing the state’s multi-billion dollar social safety net.

DOJ Announces 31 New Indictments Over Alleged Tren de Aragua ATM β€˜Jackpotting’ Scheme

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Jan. 26 said that a grand jury had returned an additional indictment against 31 people allegedly involved in a scheme to steal millions of dollars from ATMs through the use of malware.

β€œThis indictment alleges 32 counts including conspiracy to commit bank fraud, conspiracy to commit bank burglary and computer fraud, bank fraud, bank burglary, and damage to computers,” the DOJ said in a statement.
These individuals join 56 others who have already been charged in connection with the case, bringing the total number charged to 87. According to the DOJ, the 87 people are β€œVenezuelan and Colombian nationals including illegal alien Tren de Aragua (TdA) members.”

  14. Just The News: “FBI agents were reportedly witnessed scouring the Fulton County Election Hub and Operation Center in Georgia.

“The FBI is conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity. No other information is available at this time,” the FBI toldΒ Just the News.Β Fox NewsΒ first reported the search. The scope and nature of any possible investigation remains unclear.

The facility opened in 2023 at the direction of state officials. Fulton County has been under scrutiny since 2020, when it became the center of President Donald Trump’s election fraud claims in the state.

District Attorney Fani Willis later charged Trump and 18 codefendants on state RICO charges. That case unraveled due to revelations of Willis’s own alleged improprieties. Georgia broke its red streak in 2020, when it narrowly backed President Joe Biden. It broke for Trump in 2024.

Post-2020 election investigations and reports have confirmed irregularities in the election process in Georgia’s most populous county.Β Just the News, for instance, found in 2021 that the tally sheets the county used for audits and recounts did not match totals from ballot images, appearing to duplicate counts.

Gob. Brian Kemp, in 2021, issued an official complaint about “sloppy” processes in the county and laterΒ referred the 2020 election resultsΒ to the State Election Board after separate reviews confirmed errors in the absentee ballot counting process.”

  15. EXCERPT: “…..Chief Justice John Roberts warned during oral arguments that whatever rule the court adopts will apply to all areas governed by Title IX, β€œacross the board and not simply to the area of athletics,” including classrooms, programs of study, housing, and Title IX’s protections against sexual harassment, assault, and other violence against women.”

If sex no longer matters in sports, it will not matter anywhere Title IX applies. What begins with athletics would quickly extend into every aspect of school life.

Unfortunately for many girls, this injustice is already real. On the field, that means losing championships, records, and scholarship opportunities to male competitors. It means training for years only to watch a podium or roster spot disappear, then being told that objecting is a form of intolerance or bigotry. Across the country, girls are beingΒ forced to accept policiesΒ that erase sex-based boundaries in the name of inclusion.Β

These losses are not limited to elite athletes. When a male takes a spot on a girls team, it is often the late bloomers, bench players, or those just good enough to make the roster who are cut. Their chance to participate disappears, along with their access to coaching, teamwork, discipline, and the physical and emotional benefits of competition.

Off the field, girls are being told to change clothes alongside males and to treat their discomfort as something they must simply overcome. A framework that once protected fairness and privacy is being replaced with one that elevates ideology over experience.Β The court’s decision will determine whether states are allowed to protect their female citizens from that harm.Β

The Supreme Court does not need to settle every cultural debate about genderβ€”our elected lawmakers must step up and do that. The court does, however, need to affirm that sex, when used in our law, means sex, and not self-identification, to protect women’s and girls sports. For more than 50 years, the law has protected girls by recognizing that sex matters in sports and in private spaces.Β And it matters just as much today as it did 50 years ago.”

  18. “America’s Most Expensive Home’s $40 Million Price Cut Shocks Luxury Market”

by Tyler Durden, Wednesday, Jan 28, 2026 – 05:55 AM

“The Bel Air behemoth known as La Fin – once the crown jewel of speculative excess – has returned to the market at $99.9 million,Β slashed by a staggering $40 million from its original $139 million ask in 2022,Β Realtor.comΒ reports.

TheΒ 1200 Bel Air Road estate, the brainchild of former emergency-room physician turned developerΒ Joe Englanoff, spans more than two acres in one of Los Angeles’s most impenetrable enclaves and hasΒ 12 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, sweeping panoramic views of the city below, and separate quarters for staff and guests.

The massive mansion features include aΒ 44-foot crystal chandelier, an automated six-car vehicle elevator display system, a roughly 6,000-square-foot entertainment level with wine cellar, sub-zero vodka tasting room and cigar lounge, an infinity pool paired with a 23-foot retractable LED screen, and a rooftop deckΒ with spa and fireplace, according toΒ Fox Business.

YetΒ agents are hilariously quick to frame the eye-watering cut not as a market funeral bell, but as a calculated recalibration.

β€œThis isn’t weakness,” Cory Weiss of Douglas Elliman claimed in a statement toΒ Fox Business. β€œIt’s precision. Ultra-luxury has left the realm of aspiration and entered the domain of disciplined valuation. In Los Angeles, the buyers at this altitude are global, sophisticated, and ruthlessly value-conscious. When price finally syncs with interest rates, liquidity constraints, and opportunity cost, the serious players re-engage.”

β€œHigh agent turnover rarely signals a property nobody wants; it usually reveals a mismatch between strategy and expectation,” Weiss added. “La Fin has already weathered multiple market storms – near-zero rates, geopolitical tremors, tax-code whiplash. It endures.”

Today’s ultra-high-net-worth buyer, Weiss explained, no longer chases trophies for the sake of spectacle.

β€œThey are thesis-driven: high-profile entrepreneurs, private-equity titans, family offices purchasing with generational horizons in mind. Five years ago, scale and shock value closed deals. Now the mandate is privacy, security, architectural flexibility, and a coherent lifestyle narrative – bragging rights are no longer enough.”

  19. β€œMinneapolis Exposed the Weakness the Media Won’t Admit”

Michael T. Flynn LTG USA (RET), Jan 27, 2026

EXCERPT: β€œWhat is unfolding in Minneapolis is not spontaneous unrest, and it is not about social grievances. It is a disciplined political operation following a playbook that has been publicly available for decades. The tactics being employed align closely with the organizing doctrine articulated by Saul Alinsky, which relies on pressure, ridicule, narrative inversion, and institutional coercion to extract concessions from power centers without ever engaging the stated issue itself. Alinsky was explicit that the issue is never the issue. The issue is power, and Minneapolis is being treated as terrain, not as a community to be stabilized.

The sequence is familiar. A triggering incident occurs. Facts are declared settled before investigations begin. Emotional framing replaces evidence. Institutions are pushed to violate their own rules in the name of compassion. When they comply, the violation becomes the precedent. When they resist, ridicule and escalation follow. The objective is leverage, and every concession extracted becomes proof of concept for the next demand. Each display of restraint by authorities is interpreted not as good faith but as weakness to be exploited. Compromise accelerates conflict rather than resolves it.

The White House and federal leadership should understand this clearly. What is being tested is not immigration policy or law enforcement conduct in isolation. What is being tested is whether institutions can be forced, through narrative pressure and moral intimidation, to abandon their own standards in real time. If they can, the tactic will be repeated elsewhere. If it works once, it becomes doctrine. The actors driving escalation are not trying to win an argument. They are trying to condition behavior. The measure of success is institutional submission.

Minneapolis matters because it is being treated as a demonstration site. What happens here will be replicated nationally if it proves effective. That reality should be acknowledged without illusion or emotional manipulation. The situation is not going to be resolved through appeasement, and it was never intended to be.

We saw this playbook deployed successfully against local police departments after 2020. Single incidents were elevated into national moral crises before facts were established. Media narratives hardened instantly. Elected officials, facing coordinated pressure and public shaming, moved not to restore order but to distance themselves from their own institutions. Funding was cut, authority was restricted, proactive enforcement was rebranded as provocation, and officers were left politically exposed…..”

β€œSo it turns out the guy who was just shot in Minneapolis, was a serial violent obstructionist, who spat on agents and damaged ICE vehicles. His death was not his first violent encounter with ICE.

He inserted himself into the situation, multiple times, and ended up getting himself killed. All of this could have been avoided if his Democrat overlords did not scramble his brain and convince him that Trump is Hitler and ICE are the Gestapo.

But that’s what the Dems wanted. They wanted their mindless followers to obstruct federal law enforcement, knowing some would get shot on camera, which would give them the headlines needed to smear ICE and Trump, hoping that the could hold off ICE from deporting their illegals and prevent the Trump DOJ/FBI from finding the fraud.

It’s all part of the Dems’ desperation to avoid accountability for their crimes and maintain their power.”
