Happy National Louisiana Day!

As National Louisiana Day approaches, there’s no better place to celebrate than the vibrant city of Baton Rouge. Recognized on November 9, National Louisiana Day is observed in celebration of our great state and all the wonderful things associated with it. Commonly known for its music, Creole culture, and delicious food, Louisiana is also known for being a melting pot of many different cultures. Here are some engaging ways to immerse yourself in the rich local culture and discover the best ways to celebrate in Baton Rouge!

Explore the State Capitol

Kick off your celebration with a visit to Baton Rouge. Louisiana was admitted into the Union on April 8, 1812, and Baton Rouge was incorporated shortly after in 1817. You can explore our state’s colorful history by visiting notable landmarks, such as the Old State Capitol, which now serves as the Museum of Political History. Or head to the tallest state capitol in the United States, where you can enjoy stunning views from the observation deck and fully appreciate the beauty of Baton Rouge. If you want to delve even further into the history of Louisiana, visit Capitol Park Museum to learn more about the diverse aspects of Louisiana history, industry, and culture.

Discover an Oyster Paradise

Here in Louisiana, our calendar revolves around which seafood is in season, and right now, it’s all about fresh, delicious oysters. Baton Rouge is brimming with spots that serve them up just right, just like Drago’s. Head to Jolie Pearl Oyster Bar for oysters prepared raw, fried, baked, Bienville, or in a Po’ Boy. At Phil’s Oyster Bar & Seafood Restaurant, try them raw, charbroiled, fried or also in a Po’ Boy. At DON’S Seafood, enjoy them raw, charbroiled, or as DON’S Original Jacked Up Oysters. No matter what spot you choose, any of these restaurants will make celebrating Louisiana’s seafood heritage a delicious experience.

Dive Into a Bowl of Gumbo

Visit one of Baton Rouge’s local restaurants, and dive into a steaming bowl of our state cuisine, gumbo! No celebration of Louisiana culture is complete without indulging in our iconic dish, commonly found on menus at restaurants throughout Baton Rouge. Try Dempsey’s, the reigning 2024 champ for best gumbo, or runner-ups Parrain’s Seafood Restaurant, The Chimes, and Mike Anderson’s. No matter where you go, you’ll find that what makes gumbo so special are the many ways it can be served and enjoyed.

Enjoy a Beignet

Treat yourself to a taste of Louisiana’s famous desserts! We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the state doughnut – the beignet! Beignets are French doughnuts that are deep-fried, creating a fluffy pastry that is then sprinkled with powdered sugar. If you’re looking to try the best, then Baton Rouge is the place for you – the best beignets can be found at local favorite, Coffee Call. It’s a delightful way to celebrate National Louisiana Day with a sugary twist!

Visit the Baton Rouge Zoo

Take off on a wildlife adventure at the Baton Rouge Zoo, where you can get to know all about the state animal — the American alligator — plus all of the other creatures that call the zoo home. As the first zoo in Louisiana to achieve the distinguished honor of being accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the zoo is proud to be home to animals from around the world including tigers, black rhinos, flamingos, and giraffes. Before your visit, check their calendar to see what types of exhibits, educational programs, and interactive experiences they have on the schedule.

Feel the Blues

Baton Rouge has deep roots in the blues, with a history that stretches back to the early 20th century, shaped by legendary musicians like Slim Harpo and Lightnin’ Slim who helped put the city on the map as a blues hotspot. Today, you can still catch that soulful sound echoing through local venues like Phil Brady’s, the oldest blues bar in Baton Rouge, or visit Teddy’s Juke Joint, a one-of-a-kind spot that keeps the juke joint tradition going strong. And don’t forget to mark your calendars for spring when the Baton Rouge Blues Festival brings the city’s rich blues heritage to life in a big way!

  1. Good Morning All!

dark out there…somewhere between 30 and 40* I think. the thermometer is fogged up again.

we went to the only burger king around here…lol…it’s in NY…yesterday and they opened an “ollies” in that shopping center. We decided to walk thru it. there were a group of customers, clearly the same family or tour group, speaking what i believe to be Russian. (LOL…it could have been any language, but they looked russian.) decidedly not Mexican or Muslims–they were buying a lot of Christmas items.

    1. Good morning, Pat! Only 25 here this morning. Wheezer came and ate sometime during the night. They “looked” Russian? What does a Russian look like??? LOL

I’ve never heard of Ollies stores: “Ollie’s Bargain Outlet opened its first store in Nebraska in Omaha on July 2, 2025, located off 72nd Street next to Marshalls in the former Big Lots building. The grand opening featured up to 70% off regular retail prices on brand name closeouts, including merchandise in categories such as housewares, toys, electronics, health and beauty products, and pet supplies. This expansion marked Ollie’s entry into its 33rd state, with the company operating 599 stores nationwide as of July 2025. The new Omaha location created between 50 and 60 new jobs, adding to Ollie’s existing workforce of over 12,000 associates. The company, known as America’s largest retailer of closeout merchandise and excess inventory, emphasized the store’s “treasure hunt” experience for shoppers.”

oh yeah…signs are everywhere in Ollies–if you like it, buy it today, tomorrow it might be gone. and they had everything from food (I didn’t really go in there, but i saw things like candy, spices, things that do not expire quickly) to carpets, bedding, books, dishes, Christmas decorations and cards, pots and pans,

  3. make the insanity stop!

    FTA

We know the reverse is true. There are people born men who have been surgically given a cavity where their penis used to be, then demanded a gynecological exam. The title of this piece from a couple of years ago gets right to the point: “A Cavity is not a Vagina.”

If you Google “Do trans (men masquerading as) women need a gynecologist,” you get a mish-mash of answers, some yes, some no, and some, frankly, are you insane? A common related question that pops up when you do these kinds of searches is whether a person born male but pretending to be a female needs a pap smear.

I can answer that! Of course not. Where there is no cervix, there is no need for a pap smear! That doesn’t mean they won’t ask, though, based on some articles I’ve found of trans patients (a.k.a. men going to the gynecologist) and being completely unreasonable, here and here.

This is where—if you’ll pardon the expression—the rubber should meet the road. It’s all fun and games until you demand a prostate exam for a prostate that doesn’t exist. Or a gynecological exam without any actual, you know, gynecology. The doctor can put on the rubber glove, but find a prostate on a female? Not gonna happen. No matter how convinced she is that she is a he. Nor will a urologist find a prostate on a person born female. This is so self-evident that I honestly cannot believe it needs to be typed out.

At this point, you’d think the delusion would become real, manifest, but nooooo… We’re all supposed to just keep pretending. Including the doctor, who must worry about being sued for not taking a patient he can do nothing for, so the other thing you’ll see in the search results is a lot of very serious advice about providing an “inclusive” medical office. Yes, these doctors are being advised by the various bodies that publish and/or oversee their profession that it’s now a matter of medical ethics that they have to pretend right along with their delusional patients.

Seems rather science-denial-ish to me. Doctors are supposed to be in the science and evidence-based biz, or so I thought, but now it appears even the people who used to point at us as being “science deniers” are themselves denying science in order to…what? Not get sued? Be “inclusive”?? How is that a productive use of one’s time, or for that matter, medical degree? Not to mention medical insurance, which must pay for the visit in which a biological woman demands a prostate exam or a biological male demands a gynecological exam.

  4. Just The News: “Karoline Leavitt, White House press secretary, responded to an ESPN report that President Donald Trump told Washington Commanders’ owners he was interested in having their new stadium named after him.

Trump is attending the Commanders verses Detroit Lions game at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland on Sunday where U.S. veterans are going to be honored at halftime.

“That would surely be a beautiful name, as it was President Trump who made the rebuilding of the new stadium possible,” said Leavitt.

The Associated Press reported that the team had no comment on the report and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office hasn’t commented.”

Chuck Schumer retreated the Senate floor mid-questioning during a healthcare debate with Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno when pressed on written ACA Fix.

    Why?

Schumer admitted to Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-OH, that he didn’t have a written proposal to fix the Affordable Care Act.
“We can’t give you a counter in writing, but it’s very simple,” Schumer said. “Because we have two sentences we would add to any proposal which would extend the ACA benefits for one year. Moreno exposed that the Affordable Care Act imposed no income caps, meaning people who make millions of dollars a year can obtain taxpayer-subsidized health care. “It does still have no income caps, so people who make $1, $2, $3 million a year,” Moreno said before Schumer interrupted him.
“Once we pass the one-year fixed so people right now aren’t in difficulty, we would sit and negotiate that,” Schumer said. “The leader has said that he won’t negotiate before. We’re willing to negotiate once the credits are extended, plain and simple.”

Moreno responded: “So for one year, people making millions of dollars would still receive these COVID-era subsidies?”

Then, Schumer accused Moreno of caring about billionaires, yielded the floor and walked away.
Moreno continued: “I was going to ask him before he stormed out of the room because evidently he doesn‘t want to hear any opposing views or actually engage in meaningful negotiation … Would he continue 0 dollar premiums, which we know for a FACT, have enormous levels of fraud.”

  7. “Nebraska Blocks Medicaid Funds for Abortion Providers”

Breitbart, Katherine Hamilton, 7 Nov 2025

Nebraska Gov.-elect Jim Pillen answers a question while taking part in a panel discussion
    AP Photo/Phelan M. Ebenhack

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen (R) announced an executive order on Thursday barring abortion providers from participating in the state’s Medicaid system.

Nebraska’s decision follows a Supreme Court decision in June in which the High Court ruled that South Carolina can block Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid funds, finding that Planned Parenthood could not sue the state under a civil rights law. Several states have moved to block abortion providers from their Medicaid programs following the ruling.

“There’s not going to be a penny of Nebraska tax dollars, going to Planned Parenthood clinics,” Pillen said, according to NTV. Attorney General Mike Hilgers said the order means “Nebraska tax dollars can’t go to Medicaid clinics that are not approved by DHHS (Department of Health and Human Services)” and that no taxpayer funds will support abortions in the state.

The executive order mandates that taxpayer dollars be redirected to “high-quality healthcare providers” that do not perform abortions, according to the report. State officials also cited reports of abortion clinics in “abhorrent conditions.”

“The stories of the conditions of those particular facilities are something that you wouldn’t see, you shouldn’t see anywhere, anywhere around the globe, to be quite honest. I think that puts women’s health at risk. Certainly it puts, I think, their baby’s health at risk,” Hilgers said.

Dr. Steve Corsi, CEO of the Department of Human Services, said DHHS will track compliance to make sure abortion-related procedures are not reclassified to avoid the ban.

Planned Parenthood responded to the move in a statement, with the President and CEO of PP North Central Ruth Richardson calling the order “nothing but a publicity stunt by state leaders meant to confuse Nebraskans about their health care options.”

Leading pro-life organization Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America praised Pillen, calling him a “tremendous champion for unborn children and their mothers.”

“We commend his leadership and echo his words: ‘Not a dime’ of taxpayer money should ever be forcibly funneled to the abortion industry, which ends the lives of countless children while brutalizing women, too, for profit,” SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement in part.

“Nebraska values both the lives of babies and the health and safety of women. Today’s action is yet another key step in building a thorough Culture of Life that cares for neighbors in need and welcomes all our children, born and unborn,” she added.”

  8. How is it possible to identify the corpse of a man who was killed over 10 years ago w/o genetic testing???? Unless his name was on his uniform, it’s impossible for Hamas to know…..

Just The News: “The Red Cross received on Sunday the body of a hostage in Gaza that Hamas claims is Hadar Goldin, an Israeli soldier who was killed on August 1, 2014.

According to the Associated Press, Hamas said it found his body in a tunnel in the enclave’s southernmost city of Rafah on Saturday. Goldin was killed on Aug. 1, 2014, two hours after a ceasefire took effect ending that year’s war between Israel and Hamas.

The body will be transferred to Israel and the national forensic institute for identification. There are four additional bodies of hostages remaining in Gaza.”

  10. “125 years later, the Galveston hurricane is still the deadliest U.S. storm. Most residents didn’t know the storm was coming when it levelled most of the city, killing between 6,000 and 12,000 people. Destruction was nearly complete, with thousands of the city’s wooden homes reduced to rubble by a 15-foot storm surge, twice as high as the city’s elevation above sea-level. The town anemometer was destroyed by the winds after measuring 100 mph, but modern estimates put the hurricane’s strength as a Category 4 storm.

The city was among the wealthiest in the nation, thanks to its successful shipping industry and financial enterprises. Despite reports of an approaching storm, the residents were not significantly concerned until later on September 8th.

As a result, almost no one evacuated as the hurricane approached.  The aftermath included a debris line stretching several miles along the beach, filled with bodies, buildings, and other wreckage.”

  11. Just The News: “President Trump called on Senate Democrats to “stop terrorizing the American people” and end the government shutdown, which is now the longest in U.S. history.

“I am sorry that the American People are being terrorized by Democrats who have decided to shut the Government down to make me and other Republicans continue ObamaCare subsidies, which have been a windfall for Health Insurance Companies, and a DISASTER for the American People,” he wrote on social media on Sunday.

“The largest Health Insurance Companies have seen their Stock Prices soar (Some over 1000%!) since the passage of ObamaCare. Meanwhile, Americans’ Premiums have more than DOUBLED, contrary to President Obama’s promise. I believe that the money should go directly to THE PEOPLE to purchase better Healthcare, and create competition. This enrichment of Health Insurance companies must stop,” he added.

Trump also said that “it is long past time to lower premiums, not enrich insurance companies” and vowed to work with Democrats on healthcare reform.

“I stand ready to work with both Parties to solve this problem once the Government is open. Stop terrorizing the American People. Stop pushing failed policies!” he wrote.”

A State Department cable obtained by Fox News Digital directs U.S. embassies worldwide to enforce sweeping new visa screening rules under the so-called “public charge” provision of immigration law — a move that revives and expands a Trump-era standard officials say was relaxed under President Joe Biden.

The guidance instructs consular officers to deny visas to applicants deemed likely to rely on public benefits, weighing a wide range of factors including health, age, English proficiency, finances and even potential need for long-term medical care.

“Self-sufficiency has been a longstanding principle of U.S. immigration policy,” the cable that went out to U.S. posts across the globe on Wednesday states, “and the public charge ground of inadmissibility has been a part of our immigration law for more than 100 years.”

Any past use of government cash assistance or institutionalization could also be grounds for denial. “You must examine all aspects of the case,” the guidance reads, “including the petition, visa application, medical report, affidavit of support, and any information uncovered in the course of screening and vetting.”

🧵🚨 MAJOR BREAKING: International actors are involved in the State Department led color revolution 🚨🚨

This is not speculation; it’s straight from a recorded call.

Ex-USAID employees describe how, before January 20, they moved internal groups off government systems and into encrypted Signal chats, then quickly linked with foreign partners and NGOs after the inauguration. This attempt at creating a color revolution isn’t new news; this part was already reported in NOTUS earlier this year.

But what’s not reported is the international aspect. One participant explicitly frames it as “a global anti-authoritarian movement,” connecting U.S. officials with “colleagues from around the world who have dealt with this directly.”

They reference coordination with Johns Hopkins, “international democracy and conflict mitigation spaces,” and efforts to mobilize across borders against what they perceive as domestic authoritarianism.

At what point does this become treason?

As always, patience as I pull together this thread.
    👇
Note at the end of the video, the “we” in reference to organizing the February 5th protests – that was organized by Soros-backed groups 50501 and Indivisible. This is the first solid link I’ve found connecting the No Kings movement, State Department, and Soros together.
Ro Tucci herself goes onto talk about bringing in international actors to assist with the color revolution. Their role is going to be “mobilizing around corruption” … what does that mean?
They justify the international aspect by claiming that the authoritarians are already globally networked.
    . @SenTomCotton , @LindseyGrahamSC , @joniernst , @DanSullivan_AK – you are in the International Republican Institute. Are you aware of this effort?
@SenTomCotton @LindseyGrahamSC @joniernst @DanSullivan_AK Lest you think it is harmless, they outright admit their goal is to create new “socio-political economic governance systems.”

If that’s not a coup, I don’t know what is.
@SenTomCotton @LindseyGrahamSC @joniernst @DanSullivan_AK In partnership with @iamlisalogan and @SKDoubleDub33 – here’s a thread from last night outlining what these new governance systems look like – national servitude, mass censorship, bottom-up transformation of elections:
    Unroll available on Thread Reader
@SenTomCotton @LindseyGrahamSC @joniernst @DanSullivan_AK @iamlisalogan @SKDoubleDub33 And this is the origin story thread – how this started with the billionaire network of Soros, Koch, Ford, Rockefeller, and more, and how Charlie Kirk became an existential threat to them:

@SenTomCotton @LindseyGrahamSC @joniernst @DanSullivan_AK @iamlisalogan @SKDoubleDub33 This is their core ecosystem. I did not build this map. Most dots represent a separate NGO. And this is only a partial list and does not include actors such as DemAID.
    @SenTomCotton @LindseyGrahamSC @joniernst @DanSullivan_AK @iamlisalogan @SKDoubleDub33 Yes, why are we financing our own coup?
@SenTomCotton @LindseyGrahamSC @joniernst @DanSullivan_AK @iamlisalogan @SKDoubleDub33 The entire purpose of this is to eliminate populists from public discourse and make sure Trump never happens again. This excerpt is from Eric Liu’s book, who along with Rockefeller President Stephen Heintz architected One Common Purpose. Image
    Image
    @SenTomCotton @LindseyGrahamSC @joniernst @DanSullivan_AK @iamlisalogan @SKDoubleDub33 This is it.
This is the grand master conspiracy you’ve been sensing, but couldn’t find.
It’s a supranational network of “democracy” technocrats flush with countless billions and hundreds of thousands of full time employees.
Their real target is you. Image
I don’t think I emphasized this enough – the first video mentions that USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI).

USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) is not a domestic civic-engagement bureau. They operate under Section 491 of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 to stabilize other nations in crisis – think Ukraine. @HarmeetKDhillon and @EagleEdMartin may want to see if this prohibits them from operating under domestic civic engagement.Image
    Image
    Image
@SenTomCotton @LindseyGrahamSC @joniernst @DanSullivan_AK @iamlisalogan @SKDoubleDub33 Hard to appreciate the scale of this effort. Every blue dot is a NGO. Image

Last week President Trump announced that he has directed the Department of Justice to investigate the nation’s largest meat packing companies for collusion and price fixing. JBS, Cargill, Tyson, and National Beef now control 85 percent of the U.S. beef market, up from just 36 percent in 1980. In short, farmers are going broke, consumers are paying vastly more for beef, and all the profits are going to the middlemen.

This is straightforward restraint of trade through collusion. Since 1980 the Big Four have bought up and shut down most of the independent stockyards and meat packers, forcing farmers to ship their cows hundreds of miles to USDA inspected slaughtering and packing plants. Farmers, having no alternative markets, must accept the prices they are given.

Having a DOJ investigation of, for example the meat packers, should be a routine thing, done all the time to protect consumers. Except I can’t remember the last time the government has done this. Perhaps the collapse of Arthur Anderson in 2002 as a result of Enron? The fact is, these days government rarely investigates big business, ever, and I will say especially since the Supreme Court issued the Citizens United Decision.

Citizens United allowed corporations to donate to fund the endless negative ads from committees that despoil our political campaigns, because speech = money, and limits on campaign spending would supposedly violate the First Amendment. But the effect is corporate ownership of politicians and parties.

Politicians, like Nancy Pelosi, who get rich in office, are being bought. There are numerous means to buy them. Corporations want to offload risk to the taxpayer and to do business as they see fit. So, they own and reward politicians who will block reforms.

What does public policy look like, under a regime of big business ownership of our elected representatives? Unlimited immigration, sweatshops, public corruption run rampant, crime and illicit drugs everywhere, stolen elections. Huge ghettos are under construction to house the wounded, as the middle class is squeezed and the poor lose everything. We have been here before, consider “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair, speaking of meat packers.

It used to be the Republican Party was the party of big business. Now, the Democratic Party is protecting the monied interests, calling them stakeholders. They claim government and business should work in partnership, hand in hand. Chuck Schumer is willing to shut down the government, to block any cuts whatsoever in the government funds going to the Medical Industrial Complex.

I remember when Ronald Reagan, during one of the Presidential Debates, argued that there should be a “firewall” between government and business. The Revolving Door was to be shut, prohibiting for several years former government employees going to work for the industries they used to regulate. Now, those ideas are considered quaint.

Corporations today are not democracies. Shareholder rights are long gone. Unions have almost disappeared. A small fraternity of largely invisible CEOs wield vast power. They own Congress. Amid this, President Trump orders an investigation of the beef markets and packers. He is doing something good, that no one else dares to do. Just in time.

      Breaking –

Obama himself has been collecting a $2.5 MILLION annual royalty from “Obamacare” (ACA) since it’s inception 16 years ago.

      That’s $40 million total.

The DOE has halted the payments, thank heaven!

Also, btw, once while in office, ‘Big Mike’ orchestrated a WH dinner, total cost $120K (reasonable). What is UNreasonable was that *someone* entered a recurring charge, instead of a one-time charge, and it was annually paid for over a decade. Perhaps close to the 16 years that Bottom-Barry collected his royalties!

Air Force One flew over the stadium prior to the start of the festivities to mark Veterans Day.

“We are honored to welcome President Trump to the game as we celebrate those who have served and continue to serve our country,” Commanders club president Mark Clouse said this week. “The entire Commanders organization is proud to participate in the NFL’s league-wide Salute to Service initiative, recognizing the dedication and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans, active-duty service members, and their families this Sunday.”

The last president to attend a regular season NFL game was former President Jimmy Carter in 1978.”
