Happy National Tennessee Day!

The Background of National Tennessee Day

The past of Tennessee has been tumultuous. Asian ancestry is the prevailing belief regarding the initial migrants, who traversed the Bering Strait land bridge approximately 20,000 years ago. In the seventeenth century, English forces succeeded Spanish explorers who had left in search of gold in 1540. Chickasaws and Cherokee constituted the preeminent indigenous tribes of this era. “Tennessee” is derived from the Cherokee settlement known as “Tanasi.”

Tennessee contributed significantly to the Creek War as volunteers, operating under the leadership of Andrew Jackson at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in Alabama from 1813 to 1814. The volunteers rushed to the aid of Muskogee communities that were devastated as a result of the Creek warriors’ assault on Fort Mims, Alabama.

The United States government forcibly evicted the Cherokee of East Tennessee from the area between 1838 and 1839 despite their concerted efforts to blend into the local culture. Along with other indigenous American communities, they were led to Oklahoma via the Trail of Tears.

In contrast, Tennessee initially supported the Union during the American Civil War in 1861, but subsequently voted secession and allied with the newly formed Confederate States of America. By 1864, having won the majority of their engagements in Tennessee, the Union army had occupied the majority of the state. Tennessee emerged as a significant arena for racial segregation demonstrations following the Memphis sanitation workers strike of 1968 and the Nashville sit-ins for the civil rights movement from 1959 to 1961. On April 4, while in Memphis to support sanitation workers, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated.

  1. Good Morning All!

Sky looks to be clearing and it’s getting brighter. Thank you Filly for watching over the place yesterday! I have to admit, I was a little worried on our trip because we travel the interstates to get to Mom’s and back. Some days there are a lotta truckers and it’s scary–you never know WHO is driving them.

    1. Good morning, Pat! Hope all is well with your Mom and you had a good visit. Thankfully, I don’t have to worry too much about the truckers – the majority are local since there is no interstate near me. But even if I were to travel to Omaha or Lincoln, I would take the state highways. You can cross the entire state on Hiway 20 and never have to get on the interstate. Cloudy and breezy here but still not too cold @ 51.

They announced on Fox earlier that US has come to an agreement with China on a “framework” of a deal…..

      1. Good Morning Filly!
THANKS again for watching over the board.
Mom has a head cold, so I took her an extra box of tissues, some cough drops, lotion for her nose and an extra roll of toilet paper. Apparently every room gets only one roll, so if you run out in the middle of things, you’re stuck and they don’t supply tissues either.
Still we had a good visit. We got her another pair of shoes–she likes the zipper around the foot kind–Billygoat footwear. A neighbor bought her a pair last year and she loves them–she can get them on easy and they provide good support for her ankles. When she asked the neighbor where she got them (so she could order a black pair for winter) the neighbor said they don’t make them anymore. I took the name from the inside of her shoe last time we were there and found the website. they make ALL kinds of shoes, so we ordered these and she was THRILLED with them. She said she can’t wait to show them off…lol
She was a little more forgetful this time, but her head was stuffy too, so, but we had a few good hours with her before we left.

          1. she was commenting that she would have really liked black shoes for winter, so we got her those–and these are made for people who stand all day–so they’re really comfortable. We told her we’d get her another new pair in the spring when spring colors come out.

        1. Hmmm….only 1 roll??? Wow….would she be able to have more if you provided them? Take a 9-roll pack the next time you visit! I supposed they have that rule to keep some of the residents from plugging things up.

          1. that’s what i thought too. My brother took everything from mom’s house–she had a HUGE bin filled with TP, another with tissues and a third with paper towels–because she didn’t get out often. when someone took her to BJ ‘s Warehouse, she bought in bulk. Why can’t he bring her stuff–he visits several times a week.

What are they doing with the debris from the East Wing renovation?

I want to buy one of the old bricks as a souvenir.
$50 seems like a fair price for a piece of American history.
That should cover cleaning and shipping.

Put any excess to paying down that $37 trillion debt.

Ohio judge could face further consequences over Charlie Kirk comments

    https://www.wnd.com/2025/10/ohio-judge-could-face-further-consequences-charlie-kirk/

Judge Ted Berry, a municipal judge for Hamilton County, is closer to being removed from the bench for social media posts celebrating the death of Charlie Kirk, thanks to a resolution filed by state representatives.
Among his other comments, Berry declared, with a clown emoji, “Rest in Hatred & Division!” He also claimed that Kirk “spewed hate & division.” Another post asked, “How’s he feel about gun violence and gun control in Hell, now?”

The removal process is laid out in Article IV, Section 17 of the state constitution. “Judges may be removed from office, by concurrent resolution of both houses of the general assembly, if two-thirds of the members, elected to each house, concur therein; but, no such removal shall be made, except upon complaint, the substance of which shall be entered on the journal, nor, until the party charged shall have had notice thereof, and an opportunity to be heard,” the section reads.

Do you need anymore proof the liberal activist judges in this country are sick corrupt individuals that have no place in a fair court system deciding peoples lives.

  5. Just The News: “The Trump administration is preparing to expand offshore oil drilling by proposing to auction new leases along previously off-limits stretches of the U.S. coastline as soon as 2026, according to draft documents from the Department of the Interior that were obtained by CBS News.

The internal proposal would open federal waters off New England, the Carolinas, and California to oil and gas exploration. Currently, active offshore drilling is largely confined to the Gulf of America and parts of Alaska. The Atlantic coast has no active oil leases, and California has not issued a new offshore lease since 1984.

The reported plan comes shortly after the Interior Department announced the reopening of 1.56 million acres within the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge’s Coastal Plain for oil and gas leasing, which reversed a Biden-era restriction on Arctic drilling.

Democrats and environmental groups are blasting the move. Sen. Edward J. Markey, D-Mass., accused the administration of prioritizing fossil fuel donors over environmental protections. “This decision is not about energy dominance—it’s about donor dominance,” Markey said. “The Arctic Refuge is not for sale.”

The offshore leasing proposal is part of the National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program, which oversees federal offshore drilling in five-year time periods. The previous plan, enacted under Biden, reportedly authorized only three lease sales, which was the least in U.S. history.”

Lockhart, a Tony-winning actress, passed away Thursday night of natural causes at her home in Santa Monica. Her daughter June Elizabeth and granddaughter Christianna were reportedly there by her side.

“Mommy always considered acting as her craft, her vocation, but her true passions were journalism, politics, science and NASA,”Elizabeth said in a statement. “She cherished playing her role in Lost in Space and she was delighted to know that she inspired many future astronauts, as they would remind her on visits to NASA. That meant even more to her than the hundreds of television and movies roles she played.”

  8. “Have we stopped prosecuting the truth-tellers? John Kiriakou was the whistleblower who exposed the CIA torture program. For doing this, he was convicted and imprisoned for 30 months, while none of the officials who ordered or carried out torture were criminally charged under the Obama administration (or prior).

He was a former CIA officer who publicly confirmed in December 2007 that the CIA had used the torture technique known as waterboarding on the al-Qaeda suspect Abu Zubaydah. Yet he is the only CIA officer who was criminally prosecuted regarding the interrogation program. None of those involved in the illegal torture program set up by the CIA were ever charged or persecuted.

To be clear: the CIA’s post-9/11 “enhanced interrogation” or waterboarding program did not produce uniquely valuable intelligence that couldn’t have been obtained by lawful means. That conclusion has been reached by the U.S. Senate, intelligence oversight bodies, and multiple later reviews.

It is believed that Kiriakou’s prosecution was effectively a retrospective punishment for his whistle-blowing on torture. Obama decided not to prosecute any CIA officers, officials, or contractors involved in torture, his administration invoking the “look forward, not backward” doctrine. However, while declining to prosecute those who ordered or committed torture, which is illegal under the law, Obama’s Department of Justice, under Attorney General Eric Holder, went after John Kiriakou, using the 1917 Espionage Act, a law originally designed to punish spies. Yep – basically more lawfare.

This has effectively silenced other whistleblowers within the government who might have come forward during Biden’s authoritarian regime.

Never forget – The Biden administration persecuted those who were in Trump 1.0 when he came to power. Can you imagine what would have happened if Kamala had become president?

The only thing that saved our country was President Trump’s re-election. Having spent too much time in Europe lately, I can attest to how bad these far-left regimes have become.

The authoritarian, globalist, far-left regimes that have gained control of so many nations and the European Union are out of control. We were a hair’s breadth away from it happening here.

    Thank God for Trump 2.0.

In the meantime, whistleblowers Julian Assange, Edward Snowden, and John Kiriakou are all still presidential pardon hopefuls. Time will tell.”

  9. hubby and I went out and pruned the grape vines. I pruned them back hard but gees the deer trampled them good. some of them do not seem to be in the ground as well as they were. sigh

oh and a little surprise…there were 2 small hands (5-6 grapes) that they didn’t get–beyond their reach apparently. we rinsed them off and tried them. they were good!

Now I’m not sure about our decision to totally remove the fencing next year and let them have at it…LOL.

    Liked by 1 person

      1. when we had those really heavy rains, the ground back there became saturated (it’s normally wet, which makes it a good area for grapes). But then the deer found they could bend some of the fencing/poles over to eat the grass growing between the grapes. then they found they could jump over the bended fence. When we had the bad dry spell, they jumped over the bended fence to eat the succulent grape leaves and then the grapes. Unfortunately, there is only one window facing in that direction–and it’s upstairs in the bedroom. So normally I don’t see out in that direction like the other directions.

We’re going to have to decide on a serious plan or just bag it entirely. we have all winter to make a decision.

Our little old neighbor had (and they’re still there) grapevines all around his large propane tank. The deer never bothered them and every year he made wine. Dunno why ours are so tasty.

  10. “Maryland police overwhelmed by volunteers to smoke weed for impairment exercise”

Not The Bee, Mister Retrops, Oct 25, 2025

Image for article: Maryland police overwhelmed by volunteers to smoke weed for impairment exercise

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “On October 14, the Ocean City Police Department posted an announcement that they were looking for volunteers to help their officers with an impairment training event.

All the volunteers would have to do is smoke some cannabis, so the officers could become familiar with the signs of someone who was high.

We’re looking for 12 – 14 volunteers (21+) to smoke cannabis for educational purposes while officers learn to recognize cannabis impairment. The Green Lab helps both officers and participants better understand the effects and levels of impairment caused by cannabis, all in a safe, controlled setting.

The catch? They had to bring their own weed and ride a shuttle home. Within hours of posting the announcement, they were flooded with volunteers, hoping to get high with the police.

    More from Fox 5:

Organizers say 40 student officers will be participating and add that it is a great way to train the next generation of law enforcement safely and responsibly.

You guys, ten years ago, this would have been a sting operation for stoners too stupid to know better. Today, it’s just another day in a doped-up state!”

“In Norwegian, “fartshumper” is the plural form of “fartshump,” which translates to “speed bump” or “road hump” in English. The word is derived from “fart,” meaning “speed,” and “hump,” meaning “bump,” thus literally translating to “speed bump”. It is a compound word used to describe a physical traffic calming measure designed to slow down vehicles, commonly found in residential areas, near schools, and around institutions where pedestrian safety is a priority. The term is used in both Norwegian Bokmål and Nynorsk. While some sources incorrectly suggest “fartsdump” as a synonym, this is not standard; “fartshump” is the correct and widely recognized term for a speed bump in Norwegian.”

ABC: You’re over there. But here, there is a government shutdown. People are SUFFERING. Should Trump meet with Democrats?!

ABC: Your party controls the White House and both chambers of Congress. You don’t think you bear any responsibility for this?!

BESSENT: WHAT can we do? What can we do for this desperate act? We call on them to change their minds because I can tell you, the $1.5 TRILLION in spending that they’re calling for, that’s NOT on the table! We inherited a MESS…we’re NOT gonna let them be irresponsible with the budget again.
