Crows

1. All crows and ravens belong to the same genus.

Members of the genus Corvus can be found on every continent except Antarctica and South America (although other close relatives live there). To date, scientists have identified 40 species that are commonly called ravens, crows, rooks, and jackdaws.

In the U.S., the American crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos) and the common raven (Corvus corax) are the most widespread corvids. The common raven is much larger, about the size of a red-tailed hawk. It also has a wedge-shaped tail compared the crow’s slightly rounded tail. And the birds’ calls are different: crows emit a caw-caw call along with rattling and clicking sounds, while a raven’s is a croaking, deeper-pitched onk-onk.

2. Older crow siblings can help their parents raise newborn chicks.

Like a lot of intelligent animals, most crows are quite social. American crows spend most of the year living in pairs (they usually mate for life) or small family groups. During the winter months, they’ll congregate with hundreds or even thousands of their peers to sleep together at night in a sprawling communal unit called a roost.

A mated pair of crows might be lucky enough to receive chick-rearing help. Juvenile birds are frequently seen defending their parents’ nest from predators. Other services they can provide include bringing food to the parents or feeding their younger siblings directly. One study found that 80 percent of American crow nests surveyed had a helping hand. And some birds become regular nest assistants, providing aid to their parents for over half a decade.

3. When a crow dies, its neighbors may have a funeral.

The sight of a dead crow tends to attract a mob of a hundred or more live ones. During this ritual, the live crows almost never touch the dead one, which rules scavenging out as a motive. Some studies suggest that the mass gathering is part of a survival strategy: The birds are learning about threats and seem hesitant to revisit any spot where they’ve encountered a dead crow, even if food is plentiful there.

4. Crows have caused blackouts in Japan.

Since the 1990s, crows have experienced a population boom in Japan, where delicious garbage is more plentiful than ever. Urban crows like to nest on electric transformers and will often use wire hangers or fiber-optic cables as building materials for their nests. One result was an epidemic of crow-caused blackouts in major cities: Between 2006 and 2008, the corvids stole almost 1400 fiber-optic cables from Tokyo power providers, and according to the Chubu electric company, crows are responsible for around 100 power failures per year in their facilities.

Chubu started installing artificial nests in 2004. Made with non-conductive resin, the nests are placed on company towers high above the power lines, where the birds are unlikely to cause any trouble. The strategy seems to be working: two-thirds of the faux nests have been used.

5. Proportionally, some crows’ brains are bigger than yours.

Crows are so smart and so good at improvising that some zoologists call them “feathered apes” (that’s a compliment). The New Caledonian crow’s brain weighs 0.26 ounces and accounts for 2.7 percent of its overall weight. That’s proportionately much larger than a human’s three-pound brain, which accounts for 1.9 percent of overall weight.

Crows, ravens, and parrots have the biggest brain-to-body size ratios of all living bird species. They’ve shown levels of cognition that put them on par with the great apes. In lab tests, they have shown a much higher density of neurons in their forebrains than primates do. The number of neurons in this region is thought to correlate with a given animal’s intelligence. Theoretically, having more neurons translates to better cognitive reasoning.

A 2020 study looked at whether crows, like humans and great apes, can demonstrate consciousness. Crow brains lack a cerebral cortex, where most of the primate brain’s conscious perception happens. Researchers tracked the brain activity in two crows as they performed different tasks, and discovered that they could perceive sensory input—suggesting that there is much more to understand about the evolution of consciousness.

6. Crows have regional dialects.

Apart from their famous caw-caw, crows emit other sounds. Each one sends out a different message; cawing can be used as a territorial warning or a way for crows to signal their location to relatives.

Two different populations of crows may have slight differences. As ornithologist John M. Marzluff and author Tony Angell noted in their 2005 book In the Company of Crows and Ravens, the calls these birds use “vary regionally, like human dialects that can vary from valley to valley.” If a crow changes its social group, the bird will try to fit in by talking like the popular kids. “When crows join a new flock,” they write, “they learn the flock’s dialect by mimicking the calls of dominant flock members.”

7. Some crows can read traffic lights.

In Japan, carrion crows (Corvus corone) use cars like oversized nutcrackers. The birds have learned to take walnuts over to road intersections, where they put them down onto the pavement. The crow then waits for a passing vehicle to smash the nut, after which it will swoop down and eat the delicious interior.

The crows aren’t usually run over because (unlike some people) they’ve figured out what traffic lights mean. Carrion crows wait until the light turns red before flying down to place the un-cracked nut on the road. The second the light goes green, the crow takes off to watch the nut get run over from afar; it will even wait for the next red to scoop up the nut’s meat. American crows have been observed doing the same thing in California.

8. Crows can recognize your face—and hold a grudge.

You don’t want a crow for an enemy. In a 2011 paper, a team from the University of Washington tested how well the birds could identify human faces using two Halloween masks (one resembling a caveman to be used as the aggressor, the other resembling Dick Cheney for the control).

At five sites, a scientist donned the caveman mask before catching and banding some wild crows. Getting trapped is never a fun experience, and upon their release, the crows loudly scolded their assailant with threatening caws. Seeing this, other birds swooped down to harass the captor. Over several years, researchers wore the masks on strolls through all five test spots. The crows—including many who’d never been captured or banded—scolded and dive-bombed the “caveman” while ignoring “Dick Cheney”.

The younger crows, who were born after the initial experiment, also scolded the “caveman.” The grudge had been passed on. Mind your manners around crows. Because if you mistreat them, they won’t forget you and neither will their friends—or the next generation.

9. New Caledonian crows make and use tools.

Lots of non-human animals, including chimpanzees and orangutans, create useful implements which help them survive in the wild. The New Caledonian crow (Corvus moneduloides) is one of only two species on the planet that can craft its own hooks in the wild. (The other is Homo sapiens.) The South Pacific crow uses the hooks, which are made from pliable twigs that the crows bend using their beaks and feet into a J-shape, to extract insects from tight crevices.

Another surprising attribute is this species’ bill. Unlike virtually all other birds, the New Caledonian crow has a bill that does not curve downwards. For years, the quirk went unexplained, but scientists now think that their unique beak evolved to help it grasp tools more easily, as well as to better see what the tool is doing.

The New Caledonian crow isn’t the only implement expert in the corvid family. In 2016, scientists at the University of St. Andrews demonstrated that the ultra-rare Hawaiian crow, or ‘Alalā (Corvus hawaiiensis), is similarly adept at using and modifying tools.

10. Crows fight off predators by ganging up on them.

Crows have to deal with a menagerie of predators, such as hawks, owls, coyotes, and raccoons. To ward them off, the corvids exploit the fact that there can be strength in numbers. Upon seeing a would-be attacker, crows are known to gather, with some groups consisting of a dozen birds or more. Individual crows then swoop down to deliver passing blows with their beaks, often inflicting serious bodily injury in the process. If all goes well, the target will back off—though it may kill a few of the dive-bombers before they retreat. Corvids are by no means the only avians that mob would-be attackers. Swallows, chickadees, and even hummingbirds have all been documented doing this. In fact, crows are sometimes at the receiving end of mob violence as smaller songbirds often feel threatened by them and lash out collectively.

11. Crows understand impulse control.

A 2014 study shows that at least some corvids can resist the urge for instant gratification—if you make it worth their while. The research was led by University of Göttingen graduate student Friederike Hillemann, whose team assembled five common ravens and seven carrion crows. Through careful note-taking, the scientists figured out what the favorite meal items of all 12 animals were. Then the experiment began.

With an outstretched hand, one of the researchers gave each of their birds a morsel of food. Then, the animals were shown a different piece of grub. The corvids were made to understand that if they liked the second option better, they could swap snacks—but only if they were willing to sit patiently for a certain period of time first. If a bird ate the original treat during that stretch, it forfeited the chance to trade it for a new one.

Hillemann’s results showed that the crows and ravens didn’t mind waiting around for an improved snack option. As such, a bird with a piece of bread was content to sit quietly if it knew that some fried pork fat would eventually be gained in the trade-off. However, if that same bird’s second choice was another piece of bread, sitting tight would be pointless. So understandably, corvids who were put in this kind of situation tended to go ahead and eat whatever they’d been given. Why wait for more of the same?

12. Some scientists would prefer you not call a group of crows a murder.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), the correct term for a group of crows is a murder, an expression bird-watchers and poets have been using since at least the 15th century, which the OED speculates may allude “to the crow’s traditional association with violent death, or … to its harsh and raucous cry.” But maybe it’s time to come up with a replacement. Ornithologist Kevin McGowan hates the phrase murder of crows. To him, it only feeds the public’s negative outlook on the animals. “These birds aren’t a gang of nasty villains,” he tells Sy Montgomery in her book Birdology. “These birds are just birds.”

Miami wins out for Trump’s Presidential Library!! It’s going to have a hotel, too (so Trump!!) He’ll have his library finished before Obama’s.

FTA: Donald Trump’s future presidential library will be housed in downtown Miami at a location selected, in part, because of its proximity to the Freedom Tower, a landmark that played a significant role in helping Cuban refugees migrating to Florida.

Trump’s team has for months been eyeing Florida, where the president is a resident, as the location for the library, which they also hope can be part of a larger development that will include an adjacent hotel. It would be the first presidential library to also be home to a hotel development.

“The final decision was made by the Trumps,” a Trump adviser involved in the process said. “Without question, being near the Freedom Tower was important, but also being on the waterfront.”

The formal decision to dedicate the land for the library will be voted on next week by the Florida Cabinet, which includes DeSantis and three other Republican statewide elected officials. The vote is expected to be unanimous, which will formally start the process of bringing Trump’s library to Miami.

The Freedom Tower played a significant role in the migration of Cuban refugees fleeing Fidel Castro’s regime. Between 1962 and 1974, it served as a processing center for hundreds of thousands of Cubans who migrated to Florida.

The Freedom Tower was also the site of Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s 2016 presidential launch, and has long been a venue for major Florida political events.

The GOP-dominated Florida state Legislature paved the way for the Trump library, passing legislation this year that would remove the ability of local authorities to oversee the construction of any presidential library. The bill was aimed to box out Democratic-leaning local officials in South Florida from having control over decision-making related to construction.

  2. Strzok lost this round. no word on an appeal as of yet.

    FTA

Former FBI agent Peter Strzok has lost a long-running lawsuit claiming he was illegally fired during Donald Trump’s first term after sending text messages that criticized Trump.

Strzok argued in the lawsuit that his FBI bosses had retaliated against him in order to placate Trump, who was outraged over texts that Strzok exchanged while investigating ties between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia.

In a ruling Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson said that, after several years gathering evidence and testimony from those involved in the 2018 decision to terminate the veteran counterintelligence agent, Strzok’s lawyers had failed to show that his dismissal violated his First Amendment rights.

Jackson, an Obama appointee, stressed that she was not ruling on whether Strzok’s firing “was the appropriate sanction” for his conduct, only that the voluminous evidence assembled over years of litigation — including a deposition of Trump himself — had not proven Strzok’s rights were violated.

Jackson’s full ruling is under seal, for now. But she disclosed a summary Tuesday that showed she also rejected Strzok’s argument that he had struck a binding deal with a top FBI disciplinary official under which Strzok would have been demoted and suspended for 60 days. The FBI’s deputy director at the time, David Bowdich, nixed that arrangement and fired Strzok.

Strzok, who worked as an agent for the FBI for 22 years before his firing, can appeal Jackson’s decision to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. His attorney, Aitan Goelman, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

    1. Hmmm….the difference between the two articles is interesting….subtle but noticeable.

Just The News: “A federal judge on Tuesday dismissed disgraced former FBI agent Peter Strzok’s long-running lawsuit in which he claimed he was illegally fired and that the Justice Department and FBI violated his free speech and privacy rights.

The FBI terminated Strzok’s employment in 2018 after a review of thousands of his texts with bureau lawyer Lisa Page, with whom he was having an affair, showed a bias against then-GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson ruled that Strzok and his team failed to prove how his rights were violated in his dismissal, but emphasized that she was not ruling on whether the firing was the right course of action.

“The sole question to be determined here, then, is whether the FBI’s imposition of the sanction of termination comported with the Constitution,” Jackson, an Obama appointee, wrote in her ruling. “After a thorough review of the pleadings and the materials submitted in support of the cross-motions, the Court finds that there is no genuine dispute of material fact that would preclude the entry of summary judgment in the defendants’ favor and that plaintiff’s motion for summary judgment should be denied.”

Jackson said she will keep her full opinion under seal until Sept. 30, 2025, because some of the material and depositions were filed under seal. But she said she does not believe it needs to remain sealed and will lift the seal unless the teams object.

Strzok has not yet publicly commented on the ruling, and can appeal the ruling to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The former FBI agent, who worked in the bureau for 22 years before he was fired, has denied that his personal views of Trump influenced his ability to perform the job, per Politico, and an inspector general report found no evidence that Strzok’s Russia probe was affected by an alleged bias.

Strzok was involved in the start of Crossfire Hurricane, the investigation into the Trump-Russia collusion hoax. At one point, less than three months before the 2016 presidential election, he texted Page that “that there’s no way [Trump] gets elected,” adding, however, that they “can’t take that risk.” “It’s like an insurance policy in the unlikely event you die before you’re 40,” Strzok continued.”

  3. fining the board does no good since the taxpayers will end up footing the bill. find the board members in contempt and make THEM foot the bill–maybe then they will comply.

    FTA

Georgia Democrats are defying state law and a standing court order.

Like Nancy Pelosi, who refused to seat Reps. Jim Jordan and Jim Banks on the January 6th committee, Fulton County Democrats are refusing to seat two Republicans on the Fulton County Elections Board. This lawless action is in direct violation of a Fulton election ordinance:

Two members shall be appointed by the governing authority of Fulton County from nominations made by the chairperson of the county executive committee of the political party whose candidates received the second largest number of such votes [14-33].

Under this legal standard, the Republican Party is entitled to nominate two members to serve on the board. The two candidates, nominated by the GOP several months ago, are Julie Adams and Jason Frazier. They have yet to be seated.

This issue has been adjudicated in a courtroom, and the Democrats were found guilty of violating election law. On August 3, Superior Court Judge David Emerson ruled that Fulton County is required to seat the two Republican nominees. Because they refused, Judge Emerson ruled (August 27) that the Fulton County Board of Commissioners was in contempt of court, and was required to pay $10,000 per day until the two Republicans are seated. In the words of Judge Emerson, this matter is clear-cut:

I didn’t see anywhere in that legislation that the commission was given veto power over the nominees. Is it in there, did I miss it?

The judge temporarily stayed the penalty because Democrats intend to file an appeal; however, that appeal will fail.

  4. chy-na again!

A few months ago, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing focused on the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) malign influence in the realm of U.S. energy policy.

According to Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach, one of the expert witnesses, “It is evident that China’s asymmetric warfare against the United States extends to our nation’s courtrooms and state legislatures. The CCP plainly has a strategy of driving the United States away from domestic energy sources and increasing U.S. dependence on sources that rely on a Chinese supply of solar panels, electric vehicle batteries, and other technologies.”

As Kobach points out, the Chinese Communist Party has virtually cornered the global market in terms of the components needed to build electric vehicles, solar panels, windmills, and other so-called green technologies. Therefore, as Kobach argues, the CCP has a vested interest in driving the energy debate in America against domestic energy production and toward mass importation of Chinese-made renewable energy products.

At the hearing, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), said, “We’re witnessing right now a systematic campaign against American energy. There is a coordinated assault by the radical left backed and paid for by the Chinese Communist Party.”

While this might sound like a conspiracy theory, Cruz presented compelling evidence to support his claim that China is bankrolling left-wing climate alarmism in the United States.

Exhibit A in Cruz’s case is a little-known environmental group with strong ties to the CCP: Energy Foundation China (EFC).

“The Energy Foundation is a committed partner in the global effort to address one of the greatest threats facing our world — climate change — by accelerating the sustainable energy transition. Headquartered in the United States, The Energy Foundation is an independent grantmaking charitable organization that provides funding for research and capacity building related to climate change and China,” the EFC notes on its website.

In truth, the EFC does much more. According to a 36-page detailed expose, the EFC “has emerged as a pivotal actor in the global climate policy landscape. Over the past decade, the Foundation has leveraged significant financial resources to fund research, advocacy, and policy development aimed at accelerating the transition to ‘green’ energy sources in the U.S. This transition has made America dependent upon China. The foundation’s funding of U.S.-based climate advocacy groups and research institutions directly correlates with policy shifts that impact U.S. energy independence and economic competitiveness. Energy Foundation China stands at the intersection of philanthropy, policy advocacy, and CCP-influence operations, wielding substantial power that is being used to advance policies that undermine American resilience and strengthen the Communist China’s position.”

Over the years, the EFC has provided vast sums of money to several U.S. climate alarmist groups and has entrenched itself in America’s institutions of higher learning.

Moreover, it has “released multiple reports on U.S. cities and municipalities, analyzing their carbon footprints and making climate policy recommendations for them to implement” and serves as a “conduit for coordination on climate policies between Chinese and American officials.”

In recent years, the EFC has made successful inroads in state governments throughout the nation as well as the federal government. Meanwhile, as Kobach said, it has also become a catalyst for lawsuits intended to punish U.S. oil and gas companies.

The Chinese Communist Party has no business lecturing the American people or our leaders when it comes to energy policy.

For far too long, the CCP has used climate alarmism to their distinct advantage. The United States should play hardball with China and not allow CCP-aligned entities to sow domestic discord and doubt.

China wants to handicap the United States at the dawn of the AI age by restricting American access to abundant, affordable, and reliable energy.

It sure would be stupid if we keep letting the CCP undermine sound U.S. energy policy given that China will be our chief adversary in the forthcoming AI arms race.

  6. Just The News: “President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that he would not meet with congressional Democrats, citing what he called their “unserious and ridiculous demands” to avert a government shutdown.

“After reviewing the details of the unserious and ridiculous demands being made by the Minority Radical Left Democrats in return for their Votes to keep our thriving Country open, I have decided that no meeting with their Congressional Leaders could possibly be productive,” he posted on Truth Social.

Trump insisted that the opposition had threatened a shutdown unless Republicans approved more than $1 trillion in funds for illegal alien health care, taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for minors, and a multitude of other projects.

“These Radical Left Views and Policies is what allowed me to win the Presidential Election, including all seven Swing States, and the Popular Vote, IN A HISTORIC LANDSLIDE,” he added. “There are consequences to losing Elections but, based on their letter to me, the Democrats haven’t figured that out yet.”

“I look forward to meeting with them if they get serious about the future of our Nation,” he concluded. “We must keep the Government open, and legislate like true Patriots rather than hold American Citizens hostage, knowing that they want our now thriving Country closed. I’ll be happy to meet with them if they agree to the Principles in this Letter. They must do their job!”

Multiple victims are in critical condition, according to police, FOX 4 reported. The suspect was a sniper on a roof armed with a rifle, according to the news outlet’s police sources. The shooter, whom authorities identified as a white man, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head as agents approached.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed that there was a shooting at the ICE facility in Dallas.

“Details are still emerging but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities,” Noem posted on X. “The shooter is deceased by a self-inflicted gun shot wound. While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families.”

  8. Just The News: “The chairman of the new House subcommittee aimed at uncovering the truth behind the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., says his panel is concerned about the dozens of paid, federal informants present during the demonstrations, and is concerned that the intelligence they gathered was not properly shared with law enforcement.

“One thing that we have learned, and this came on the tail end of the Biden administration, when their Department of Justice admitted that they had many, I mean, more than two dozen, paid informants embedded in the crowd,” Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., told the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show yesterday.

How many informants? And what were they paid to do?

“And so my question is, you know…our FBI does pay to have informants through different organizations, and their primary job is intelligence, you know, to provide information. But, with that many paid informants being in the crowd, we want to know how many were in the crowd, how many were in the building, but I also want to know, were they paid to inform or instigate?” Loudermilk continued.

The chairman also said he wants to know whether the dozens of informants spread throughout the crowd properly passed any intelligence on to their law enforcement handlers in advance of the protests.

“But of these informants, if they were paid to inform, what information did the FBI actually get from them? How did they not know that this was coming?” Loudermilk asked. “If they had that many paid informants, I believe they did know it was coming,” he asserted. Loudermilk said his subcommittee is investigating whether some information from informants may not have been passed on for political reasons by those that wanted to conveniently catch “MAGA” in a riot.

“You know that we do have evidence that there were people that were instigating, such as a Metropolitan Police Officer that was undercover in plainclothes. The question would be — when we get more evidence of people who are instigating that may be part of the government or maybe in law enforcement — were they caught up in the moment, or did they have orders to do this? Was this pre-planned?” Loudermilk asked.

    Working on several theories

“Or is it just something that somebody decided, you know, that would be really good if we could catch some of these MAGA people rioting at the end of 2020…not necessarily thinking they’re going to get into the Capitol, but maybe?” the chairman continued.

He said that is “one theory we’re working on, as we’re working on several theories, is this just allowed to play out for political reasons?”

Loudermilk has led a sweeping investigation into both the riot at the Capitol building and the surrounding events for years from his perch at the head of a different subcommittee. But now, House leadership has granted him a new mandate under the House Judiciary Committee to further his probe, this time with a friendly Republican administration in the White House.

In his prior work, Loudermilk has released explosive evidence ranging from videotapes to internal security memos that were ignored by the Democrat-led Jan. 6 Select Committee, which tried to blame President Donald Trump and his advisors for the riot. Many Democrats still insist on calling it an “insurrection,” while legacy media referred to it as a “violent invasion.”

However, the evidence–such as videotapes of Capitol doors left unlocked, officers exhorting protesters to enter the Capitol, and intelligence warnings of violence that went unheeded–show that there was much more to the story.

Loudermilk specifically uncovered footage of plainclothes Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police officers in the Jan. 6 crowd heard exhorting protesters and appeared to help other protesters climb scaffolding and telling them “go, go, go!”

    Police roles need explaining

Another recording from a different MPD officer shows the officer giving water to his colleagues who were suffering from the effects of tear gas which the Capitol Police had deployed against the pro-Trump protesters. While helping his fellow officer, the plainclothes undercover officer told his colleague that “we go undercover as Antifa in a crowd.”

In 2023, Just the News obtained footage showing a door on the west side of the U.S. Capitol was left open and unguarded, allowing more than 300 protesters to enter the building during the height of the riot. Even after the Capitol Police arrived at the doors, they did not block the entryway and protesters continued to flow unimpeded into the building, even as police elsewhere attempted to hold out the crowds.

There is also a growing body of evidence that federal law enforcement was made aware of the possibility of violence, even having at least two weeks to prepare.

In fact, Capitol Police received alerts from both U.S. Homeland Security and District of Columbia authorities about potential violence at the Capitol, Just the News reported in 2022. That pre-Christmas warning flagged online chatter about waging a “bloody war,” concealing guns, and burning down the Supreme Court, according to internal memos.

The United States Secret Service also developed intelligence about a “high potential for violence” well before the riot, but failed to share that information with its agents guarding Donald Trump, Mike Pence and Kamala Harris that fateful day, Just the News reported last year.”

  9. Just The News: “The Pentagon on Tuesday announced that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was eliminating the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS) for allegedly “advancing a divisive feminist agenda.”

The decades-old panel hosts quarterly meetings to shed light on challenges that female service members may face that could be overlooked, including ill-fitting body armor and finding support for parental leave and childcare. It is composed of civilian men and women.

“Secretary Hegseth has decided to terminate the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services,” Pentagon press secretary Kingsley Wilson posted on X. “The Committee is focused on advancing a divisive feminist agenda that hurts combat readiness, while Secretary Hegseth has focused on advancing uniform, sex-neutral standards across the Department.”

The move comes after Hegseth announced in March that he would review all the Defense Department advisory committees, The Hill reported. Supporters of the committee have argued that it does not serve a political purpose, and expressed concern that disbanding it would hurt women in the armed forces.

“Throughout its seventy-year history, approximately ninety-four percent (94%) of DACOWITS’ recommendations have either been fully or partially adopted by DOD,” senators wrote in a letter in May. “Most notably, we are concerned the disassembly of DACOWITS will exacerbate the gap in the collection of data regarding key policies to improve conditions for service women and reduce barriers to the recruitment and retention of women.”

  10. Good! Go Grassley! Altho it is time for him to retire, part of me hates to see him go…..!

Just The News: “Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley on Tuesday sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, calling on her to stop approving work authorization for foreign student visa holders, citing a recent study that found American STEM graduates have a high unemployment rate.

The senator was citing a Federal Reserve report that found “the unemployment rate of males ages 22 to 27 is roughly the same, whether or not they hold a degree,” and that Americans who recently obtained a degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) have a higher unemployment rate than the general public.

“Competition from foreign graduates is contributing to rising unemployment rates among college-educated Americans,” Grassley wrote. “This should not be the case. Congress placed caps on employment visas for foreign graduates to ensure that American jobs are filled by American graduates.”

Grassley claimed the work authorizations are in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which designates student visas as solely being used for educational purposes and not for employment. “In addition to harming American job seekers, foreign student work authorizations also put our nation at risk of technological and corporate espionage,” he continued. “For example, over 33,000 Chinese student visa holders have STEM work authorizations that allow them to work in sensitive tech positions.”

The latest letter is not the first time that Grassley has pushed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to stop issuing work authorizations for foreign students in the country on a student visa. He also called on the DHS to end the practice in March.

Grassley asked the secretary to provide a response on the work authorizations by Oct. 10 and also requested a staff briefing on the legal authorizations the department is using to justify the authorizations.”

“Kimmel’s Back, So Can We Return to Ignoring Him Now? Without patriots paying attention to Jimmy Kimmel, he’s just a series of bad jokes that nobody gets.”

    JD Rucker, Sep 24, 2025

“The “king” of late-night liberal smugness, Jimmy Kimmel, slithered back onto ABC’s airwaves Tuesday night after his little timeout for that tasteless crack about the tragic murder of conservative powerhouse Charlie Kirk. And what did he do with his big comeback moment?

Delivered a crocodile-teary-eyed monologue where he claimed he “never meant to make light of the murder,” all while ABC’s audience gave him a standing ovation like he was some kind of martyr. Standard, boring Kimmel fare: half-hearted remorse wrapped in emotional theater, designed to rally his Hollywood echo chamber while thumbing his nose at the rest of us.

Why are we even talking about this guy? Kimmel’s entire schtick relies on poking the bear—us—and watching as we roar back with outrage, boycotts, and social media storms. Without that, he’s just another aging comedian droning on about politics to a dwindling audience of coastal elites who wouldn’t know a good policy stance if it hit them in the Prius.

His ratings? They’ve been circling the drain for years, propped up only by the occasional viral clip where he mocks Trump, conservatives, or anyone to the right of Bernie Sanders. Take away our attention, and poof—he’s as relevant as a flip phone in 2025.

Late-night TV used to be about laughs, not lectures. But Kimmel and his ilk turned it into a leftist sermon, and the only reason they stay afloat is because we keep feeding the beast. Every time we tweet about his latest outrage, share clips of his “gotcha” moments, or call for more suspensions, we’re handing him free publicity. It’s like we’re his unpaid PR team. Meanwhile, real issues are getting sidelined while we rant about a guy whose biggest talent is crying on cue.

It’s time to move on. Kimmel’s back? Great, let him preach to his choir of celebrities and sycophants. We don’t need to watch, react, or even acknowledge his existence. Starve the attention-seeker, and watch how quickly he fades into obscurity. Focus on what matters: fueling the current spiritual awakening, supporting conservative voices, holding the media accountable without amplifying the clowns, and winning the culture war by building our own platforms.

Kimmel thrives on our rage—let’s deny him that oxygen and get back to making America great. To my knowledge, this is the first article I’ve written about Jimmy Kimmel. It will be my last.”

  12. I’m back. I called Mom from the grocery store parking lot–better reception and easier to talk.

she was in a chatty mood this morning. she seems happy with her single room. my brother wanted to bring her tv, she said no. she loved the clipboard I sent–she said it was a perfect idea–light enough yet sturdy for when she writes.

I was hoping to get Macintosh apples to bake a pie to take along, but they were most likely what was left of last year’s harvest–too bruised. I am going to make cut out cookies instead–they will keep a long time in a tin.

and I got a big pumpkin to put out for the deer!

      1. that’s good.
I’m happy she has her own room and she’s away from the creepy guy who kept coming into their room. AND i found out, that we can take her away for a party if she wants it. I was thinking maybe at Christmas–we might have to find someone who can get her to my daughter’s place–it’s fairly close to her. She won’t get in our truck, but the kids have lower sedan type cars. Her room might be too small for all of us. We’ll see this weekend.

    Clandestine, Sep 24, 2025

“This is a national emergency. Left-wing terrorism is a threat to national security. The Democrats, in conjunction with the MSM, and their brownshirts like Antifa, are currently engaged in a violent and coordinated insurrection.

Trump must invoke the Insurrection Act! This would give him the authority to send federalized National Guard troops to every city in the nation, shut down this violent insurrection, incarcerate the terrorists, carry out mass deportations, repel any uprisings, secure elections, and save the Republic.

Unprecedented times call for unprecedented measures. Democrat governors/mayors are not willing to cooperate, so Trump must use the full array of powers to him as Commander in Chief to do what must be done.

This Left-wing terrorism cannot be allowed to go on.”

Former FBI Director James Comey, for years the target of President Trump’s ire, is expected to be indicted in the coming days in the Eastern District of Virginia, where a prosecutor who opposed bringing the case was recently fired, three sources familiar with the matter told MSNBC.

The full extent of the charges being prepared against Comey is unclear, but the sources believe that at least one element of the indictment—if it goes forward–will accuse him of lying to Congress during his testimony on September 30, 2020 about whether he authorized a leak of information. The five year statute of limitations on that charge would lapse on Tuesday.

  16. “DOJ Epstein Investigator: ‘Epstein Was a CIA Asset’ — Says Trump Never Present During Assaults but Protecting Others; Clinton Present “While Rapes Occurred”

    September 24, 2025

“I’ve interviewed all the victims, There’s never been an instance where Trump was on a plane with these kids and the rapes occured. But that can’t be said for Clinton. And it can’t be said for others.”

“They [DOJ] didn’t want to go after him [Epstein] because he’s an asset for the United States and Israel.”

“It’s not talked about yet but, it’s soon to come out that he [Epstein] was a CIA informant.”

Overheard at Phoenix Sky Harbor Terminal 4 American Airlines, on a flight to DC, U.S. Department of Justice Investigator for the Jeffrey Epstein case tells all.

Glenn Prager, a DOJ investigator on the Jeffrey Epstein case, revealed on hidden camera that he reviewed Epstein’s itineraries and interviewed victims. Prager claimed the DOJ avoided pursuing Epstein because he is a CIA asset. He stated that evidence from his investigation confirmed Bill Clinton’s presence during alleged rapes on the Lolita Express. He also added that President Trump was not present for the rapes, but he is protecting many others who were.

UNDERCOVER JOURNALIST: How about this whole Epstein thing that’s going on?

PRAGER: I worked on that case. I used to interview all the victims. And then we would go ready to go to trial. And they would flip. Epstein would just pay them off. And they were just like these little kids. They pay off their family. They’re all broke kids and poor families.  So you pay them off like anywhere from $150,000 to $500,000. Nothing. In that guy’s world.

Prager explained that the victims he interviewed were paid off by Epstein right before going to trial. Prager worked as an investigator inside the Department of Justice for over 20 years, has a background in insurance fraud investigations, and had a brief stint in Program Integrity at the U.S. Department of Human Health and Services.

During his time in the DOJ, Prager claims he was tasked with interviewing Epstein’s rape victims and investigating flight logs. On Prager’s backpack, an embroidered FBI patch caught our undercover journalist’s attention.

Although many have suspected it to be the case, Prager is the first department official to confirm that Epstein worked for the CIA and is a foreign asset.

PRAGER: I’ll tell you this. Because it’s not talked about yet. But it’s soon to come out. That he was a CIA informant.

UNDERCOVER JOURNALIST: He was a CIA informant?

PRAGER: He [Epstein] was in the CIA. So the DOJ was settling a case. And they were just letting him do house arrest. And they minimized his arrests.Part of that is because all the victims kept on flipping. And they didn’t have anyone to go to trial with. The other part, the more important part, is they [DOJ] didn’t want to go after him. Because he’s an asset for the United States and Israel. For the CIA. I just know that’s what his role was. And that’s why he was protected so long for this. And people turn a blind eye about all this garbage that he was doing for the United States

Prager, the DOJ investigator on the Epstein case, addressed claims on whether President Trump was involved. Many people are trying to tie Trump to Epstein. Prager said Trump was not involved in any inappropriate sexual behavior, but Bill Clinton was. He added that, “they killed the Epstein list” to protect the Clintons.

PRAGER: They claim that Trump’s involved in the rapes and all that stuff. He wasn’t. I mean, I’ve seen the agendas. I’ve seen the itineraries. And I’ve seen and I’ve interviewed all the victims. There’s never been an instance where Trump was on a plane with these kids. And the rape occurred. But that can’t be said for Clinton. And it can’t be said for others. I remember that it was being killed [MEANING THE EPSTEIN LIST] because I know Clintons were on there.

UNDERCOVER JOURNALIST: The Clintons were on there?

PRAGER: 100%. And while the Clintons were on the plane, while Bill Clinton was on the plane, there were rapes that occurred. And that’s what I’m saying Trump. Although as many flights as there were and all that kind of stuff, and on the island and all that stuff, he was never there during a single alleged rape. But Clinton for sure. And that’s where the big cover-up was.

This DOJ Investigator (Prager) inside the Trump Department of Justice says that while Trump may not have been present during the crimes that Prager investigated, it is clear that Trump is “Protecting a lot of people.”

PRAGER: I don’t know what’s new that I have never seen that he’s so hesitant to now show what’s going on. With Releasing all his files. I think he’s protecting a lot of other people. He’s not protecting himself because there’s nothing there. But he’s protecting a lot of people.

The Undercover Journalist boarded American Airlines flight 1634 and landed in D.C. on Monday at 8 PM EST and proceeded to go to dinner with Prager at the Blue Duck Tavern.

Prager dislikes the fact that Trump said the Epstein scandal is a hoax but he also says that according to the evidence from his investigation, Trump is not covering up for himself.

PRAGER: Trump’s now saying it’s a hoax. The case is like a hoax or something. I mean, come on. You know it’s not a hoax. He does a lot. He says a lot of stupid stuff. He’s been on the plane, now, many times. It’s just, he was never on the plane with the kids. I don’t know. People want to tie it to him and say he’s covering up for himself. But he’s not.

This dinner went for an hour and forty five minutes as Prager revealed more information about Trump’s hesitation to be fully transparent with the Epstein case. Prager gave us more detail about internal gripes against FBI Director Kash Patel and detailed a developing feud between Patel and Pam Bondi.

When reached for comment by phone Prager simply replied “I can’t talk to you,” before hanging up.

According to a DOJ spokesperson, “This individual [Glenn Prager] worked at the Department of Justice as a program analyst over fifteen years ago. He has no understanding of, or access to, the underlying facts in this investigation. His statements should not be considered accurate. It is disgusting that someone would further exploit victims of sexual abuse by fabricating stories for their personal benefit.”

In April of this year Glenn Prager was announced as Executive Director of Government Risk Solutions for LexisNexis Solutions, a global data and analytics company that provides technology services to the private and public sector.”

  17. ‘Unacceptable and Wrong’: Google Admits to Censoring COVID Content Under Pressure From Biden Administration

Google admitted to censoring COVID-19 content on YouTube and deplatforming users under pressure from the Biden administration, calling the government’s actions “unacceptable and wrong” in a letter to Congress on Tuesday. Google offered to reinstate banned accounts, but critics said the company continues to suppress content on other platforms, including its search engine.

EXCERPT: “Google on Tuesday admitted to censoring YouTube content that questioned official COVID-19 narratives — and deplatforming users who posted such material — under pressure from the Biden administration. The admission came as part of an investigation by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) into Big Tech censorship practices.

King & Spalding, the legal firm representing Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google and YouTube, acknowledged the censorship in a letter to Jordan. In the letter, Alphabet said the Biden administration’s pressure to censor users was “unacceptable and wrong,” and offered to reinstate users who were banned for allegedly violating YouTube’s policies on COVID-19 and political speech.

Jordan issued subpoenas to Big Tech executives in February 2023 and March 2025 as part of a broader investigation into the “censorship-industrial complex,” in which the Biden administration allegedly worked with Big Tech companies to “censor Americans,” “true information” and critics of the administration.

Jordan previously chaired the U.S. House of Representatives’ Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government.

In a statement, Jordan’s office said the investigation revealed that YouTube “was a direct participant in the federal government’s censorship regime.”

“In particular, the Committee obtained documents showing that the federal government successfully pressured YouTube to censor certain lawful content, including content that did not violate YouTube’s content moderation policies,” the statement read…..”

  18. “In Washington, a battle builds over a right to sue pesticide makers”

    By Carey Gillam

EXCERPT: “It’s been seven years since Germany’s Bayer bought US agrochemical giant Monsanto, inheriting not only the company’s vast portfolio of seeds and pesticide products, but also more than 100,000 lawsuits alleging Monsanto’s popular Roundup herbicide causes cancer. Bayer, which has so far paid out billions of dollars in settlements and jury verdicts to cancer victims, has been working – so far in vain – to put an end to the litigation and to block any future such cases.

Now, the company appears closer than ever to success, as many Republican congressional leaders push for measures that would effectively block lawsuits against pesticide makers around the country. A group founded by Bayer called the Modern Ag Alliance is the face of the legislative push, advocating for liability shields they say are necessary to allow companies to continue to sell pesticides that farmers use to kill weeds and bugs in their fields.

The group says it represents more than 100 agricultural organizations, including farmers who grow wheat, corn, soybeans and other key food crops. “Without legislative action, a potential catastrophe is on the horizon that could result in many farmers going out of business and food prices rising even further,” the alliance warns on its website.

The alliance has been lobbying for the passage of state laws blocking such lawsuits, so far succeeding in two states – Georgia and North Dakota – and continues to lobby for such laws in all 50 states.

But the immediate battleground is in the halls of Congress where a provision tucked into a congressional appropriations bill is outraging consumer advocates, including those affiliated with the influential Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement. Similar protective language for pesticide makers is expected to be included in the new Farm Bill as well.

“Bayer is in a desperate position,” said Kelly Ryerson, a leading MAHA advocate who has been lobbying lawmakers and her 84,000 social media followers to fight back against pesticide company protections. “Rather than slapping a [warning] label on the side of the product, they would rather take on the enormous challenge of changing US federal and state law.

“The audacity of elected officials voting for legislation to fully strip our legal rights away when injured by chemicals is stunning, especially in this age of MAHA when an unprecedented number of Americans are rallying against toxins in food and the environment,” Ryerson said.

    “Important investments”

Bayer has made it clear that changing laws in its favor is a priority. The company states on its website that without “legislative certainty,” lawsuits over its glyphosate-based Roundup and other weed killers can impact its research and product development and other “important investments.”

The company says the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) should be the ultimate arbiter of product safety and what warnings should be required on product labels. If the EPA approves a product label, consumers should not be able to sue companies for failing to warn of perceived risks, according to Bayer.

In a statement to The New Lede, Bayer said federal legislation is “needed to ensure that states and courts do not take a position or action regarding product labels at odds with congressional intent, federal law and established scientific research and federal authority.”…….

  22. EXCERPT: “The Justice Department is nearing a decision on whether to indict fired FBI Director James Comey in the Eastern District of Virginia in the near future, sources confirmed with Just the News.

The news comes two weeks after former Comey adviser and Columbia University law professor Daniel Richman was subpoenaed as part of a criminal probe. President Donald Trump has argued that Comey broke the law by sharing memos with classified information with the New York Times.

The news of a possible indictment, first reported by MSNBC, also comes after U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Erik S. Siebert resigned last week, allegedly under pressure from the Trump administration to bring charges against Comey.

President Trump swiftly replaced him with attorney and top White House attorney Lindsey Halligan. She will serve on an interm basis, ahead of a congressional confirmation process.

Sources told Just the News that at least one element of the indictment – if it goes forward – will contend that Comey lied to Congress during his testimony in late September 2020, when he denied that he had ever authorized a leak of information to the media about the Trump-Russia investigation or Clinton-related investigations. The five-year statute of limitations on the charge would likely lapse this coming Tuesday.

Just the News revealed last month that Richman had previously admitted to federal agents in interviews that he routinely communicated on behalf of Comey, his longtime friend, with Times reporter Michael Schmidt, whose work was among the newspaper’s 2018 Pulitzer-winning stories on Russian election interference.

The goal, Richman told the FBI, was “to correct stories critical of Comey, the FBI, and to shape future press coverage” outside of the bureau’s official press office, according to internal FBI memos that current FBI Director Kash Patel delivered to Congress last month.

While Richman was known to have been publicly quoted in news stories as an advocate for Comey, he admitted to agents — who were part of the FBI’s Arctic Haze classified leaks inquiry — that he was given access by Comey to what turned out to be highly classified information up to the SCI level and sometimes provided information to reporters on an anonymous basis.

Richman insisted to investigators that he did not believe he had confirmed or provided classified intelligence to reporters but said he could not be 100 percent, the memos state, noting he could only make his leak denial “with a discount.”

While that testimony by Comey likely falls outside the statute of limitations for a false statements charge, the former FBI director directly doubled down on it in another Senate Judiciary Committee appearance on September 30, 2020.

During that hearing, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, brought up fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe when pressing Comey on whether he had ever authorized leaks to the media……”

  23. “After President Donald Trump complained about having to deal with a stopped escalator during his visit to the United Nations, White House officials are demanding an investigation. As first lady Melania Trump and the president stepped onto the escalator ahead of his speech on Tuesday morning, it stopped moving, prompting both of them to stop in their tracks.

The U.N. has said that there appears to have been no foul play. “If someone at the UN intentionally stopped the escalator as the President and First Lady were stepping on, they need to be fired and investigated immediately,” she said in an X post. “I know that we have people, including United States Secret Service, who are looking into this to try to get to the bottom of it,” she said.

I mentioned this this morning, saying – and I quote myself – “Yeah – tell me again how that ‘just sorta happened”. Of course it was on purpose. Of course it was an intentional slap at the President and his wife. Some jerkoff somewhere flipped a switch and stopped it. 24. “The nutrient content of canned and frozen fruits and vegetables is comparable to fresh and, in some cases, it may be higher than fresh. Produce to be canned or frozen is processed immediately after harvesting, so nutrient losses after picking are minimal.

Once picked, that fruit or veg is still using its own nutrients, breaking them down in order to keep its cells alive. And some nutrients are particularly vulnerable. Vitamin C, which helps the human body absorb iron, helps reduce cholesterol levels and protects against free radicals, is also especially sensitive to oxygen and light.

Refrigerating produce slows down the process of nutrition degradation, although the rate at which nutritional value is lost varies from one product to the next.

In 2007, Diane Barrett, a former food science and technology researcher at the University of California, Davis, reviewed numerous studies looking into the nutritional content of fresh, frozen and tinned fruits and vegetables. She found that spinach, for example, loses 100% of its vitamin C content in seven days if stored at a room temperature of 20C (68F); it loses 75% if refrigerated. But carrots, by contrast, only lose 27% of their vitamin C content when stored for a week at room temperature.”

“Imagine you’re a GI or a sailor and you win a barracks drawing to have lunch in MGM’s cafeteria. That would be a big thrill, but the bigger thrill (and bragging rights) would be when you find out that Lana Turner is gonna be your ‘waitress’….

And then there’s actress Gene Tierney, considered by many to be the most beautiful leading lady from the Golden Age of Hollywood, was part of the war-time organization known as the Naval Aid Auxiliary, which set up a series of stations across the country that would provide entertainment and temporary housing for servicemen and sailors in the middle of their transfer from one location to another.

Gene also criss crossed the country during World War II, doing hundreds of events to raise money and boost morale of the troops. “We all needed to do our part to support our boys overseas,” she said of her efforts. “It was the least we could do.”
