Some dogs are easy-going companions. Others are natural-born workers, always ready for action. Then there’s the Catahoula Leopard Dog—a breed with a personality as bold as its name. Get ready to uncover what makes this breed one of the most intriguing in the canine world.
Louisiana Recognizes It as the Official State Dog

Declared Louisiana’s official state dog in 1979, the Catahoula Leopard Dog has deep historical roots in the region. This breed is used for hunting and herding, and it showcases impressive intelligence and resilience. Its official recognition reflects its significance in Louisiana’s culture, particularly in rural and working communities.

Catahoula means “sacred lake” in the Choctaw language, referencing the Catahoula Parish in Louisiana. This name highlights the breed’s connection to indigenous history and the swampy landscapes where it thrived. Some historical accounts suggest the breed was originally called the Catahoula Cur.
Eyes Can Be a Striking Mix of Colors

Heterochromia, a rare genetic trait, often occurs in Catahoulas and creates one-of-a-kind eye colors. Some have “glass eyes” that appear blue or white. Others display amber, green, or a mix in one eye. These variations enhance their mysterious, piercing gaze, making them even more captivating.
One Of the Most Unique Coat Patterns

Swirls and brindle stripes combine to make this breed instantly recognizable. In addition, the Catahoula Leopard Dog’s coat can display blue, red, black, or chocolate merle patterns. Because of this, no two Catahoulas look identical, making their appearance as distinctive as a fingerprint.
The Catahoula Leopard Dog’s Coat Is Water-Resistant

The Catahoula Leopard Dog’s coat is not only striking but also functional. Their short, dense fur helps repel water, allowing them to move through wet environments comfortably. This characteristic is especially beneficial in the wet and muddy terrains they are often found working in.
The American Kennel Club Does Not Recognize It
Despite its long history and working capabilities, the American Kennel Club (AKC) has not officially recognized the breed. Instead, organizations like the United Kennel Club and the National Association of Louisiana Catahoulas (NALC) uphold breed standards.
Requires A Job to Stay Happy

A daily routine with problem-solving exercises keeps the Catahoula Leopard Dog engaged and reinforces its instincts. The breed may become restless and destructive without this mental and physical stimulation. High-energy tasks like agility courses or herding trials are essential to prevent boredom.

Good morning! Brrrr…..only 52 here this morning, w/clear skies! Interesting dog….I’m not especially fond of short-haired dogs and I wouldn’t be able to keep a dog like this one active enough – no “jobs” for it! My favorite dog will always be the Australian Shepherd but I’m not all that picky. I just don’t like the little yapping ankle biters!!!
Last night for the first time, I didn’t have to wrap my leg/foot. Of course, I didn’t do much physical activity yesterday, since the leaf blower crapped out so quickly, so that’s part of it but it’s gradually improving.

From Paris to Alaska: Why Putin’s poop always travels back with him
The report says the aim is to prevent foreign intelligence agencies from getting samples of Putin’s poop that could reveal medical details.
August 18, 2025
https://indianexpress.com/article/world/why-vladimir-putin-poop-always-travels-back-with-him-10196883
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s bodyguards collect his poop when he travels abroad and carry it back to Russia.
This unusual practice is done to stop foreign governments from studying his waste to learn about his health. This time, Putin reportedly traveled with his ‘poop suitcases’ to the Alaska Summit in the United States. Reports said that his bodyguards gather his stool and take it back to Russia whenever he travels overseas.
The information first appeared in the French magazine Paris Match, written by journalists Regis Gente and Mikhail Rubin. They reported that Putin’s security officers packed his waste in sealed bags and stored it in a special briefcase to be flown back to Moscow. This was followed by a 2022 report by The Independent.
The practice was noted during Putin’s trip to France in 2017 and his visit to Saudi Arabia in 2019.
Reason behind the practice
The Independent report says the aim is to prevent foreign intelligence agencies from getting samples of Putin’s poop that could reveal medical details.
Ex-BBC journalist Farida Rustamova also confirmed hearing of such incidents, saying Putin sometimes used “a private bathroom” or even a portable toilet while traveling abroad.

Just The News: “When Army Specialist Dakota Barnes considered flying home to California for Christmas last year, she knew she couldn’t afford it without giving up her yearly food budget. That’s when she heard about a nonprofit that could help through Fort Bragg’s Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program. She contacted Miles for Military, a Boston-based nonprofit that helps newly enlisted members get home for special occasions.
Maureen Byrne started the program in 2023 after flying her son, Ronan, a Marine, home from base. At one point, she spent $900 to fly him home for less than 48 hours. That led to a question: How can junior enlisted troops making around $30,000 a year afford to go home?
She got the answer from her son: “He’s like, Mom, nobody goes home. And it broke my heart.” That was the beginning of Miles for Military, but the idea didn’t fully come together until Byrne learned that her son was going to Raleigh, North Carolina, to volunteer with the Special Olympics.
Talking to a friend about the situation, she came up with a plan. She’d offer to fly junior enlisted military members home if they spent 25 hours volunteering off-base in their communities. That part is key to the program. Byrne sees value in getting military members out to help in the community.
“We really want to get them out of the barracks, especially off base, into the community, making a difference,” she said. Byrne said volunteering is at the heart of Miles for Military. She said it helps service members engage outside the military and that nonprofits are grateful for the hands-on help. Not only did it help local nonprofits, it also helped military members make new connections.
For Barnes, it was easy. She was already volunteering at Manna Church. The 31-year-old Army behavioral health specialist filled out a Miles for Military application and was soon in touch with Byrne. “I told her what I was trying to do, and she made it happen,” Barnes told The Center Square about working with Byrne. A few weeks later, Barnes flew home to see her family in Placerville, Calif.
“The best part was that my entire family, even the ones who live far away, were all able to make it home for Christmas and having the opportunity to watch the people I love opening the gifts I got them in person,” Barnes said. Barnes isn’t done with Miles for Military. She now makes a point of putting up flyers around base and letting other newly enlisted people know about how the program works.
So far, Miles for Military has flown more than 100 troops from dozens of bases back home to states from all over the world. Round-trip tickets during the holiday season can be pricey. Byrne estimates each flight costs about $1,000 on average.
Miles for Military is a nonprofit and runs on funds from donations. Byrne said the organization is still small enough that every dollar donated goes directly toward airline costs.
Nonprofit and volunteer groups also like to have veterans help out. “I think they’re more grateful than the kids that get the tickets,” Byrne told The Center Square. “It’s actually phenomenal. We’ve had kids, and they go back to continue to volunteer and they not even earning a ticket. They just go back because they they really enjoy it. And meeting the veterans, you know, is really cool for them too, you know, because they’re future veterans too.”

EXCERPT: “The American medical establishment is at it again, attempting to scare women into believing they will not be able to get health care for things like ectopic pregnancies and miscarriages because they conflate them with abortion.
While miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, and other pregnancy complications can be life-threatening and require emergency care, abortion — the elective murder of an unborn baby — is not and will never be health care. And no law banning abortion has any effect on women being able to seek care for genuine pregnancy complications.
But that fact is not stopping the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) from peddling that sort of nonsense in response to the Trump administration revoking guidance “requiring hospitals to provide emergency abortions.”
The move rescinded Biden administration guidance on the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) that said the 1986 law required abortions to be provided even in states where abortion bans were enacted.
ACEP went into panic mode after Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, but insisted EMTALA still required emergency health care providers to perform abortions. Now that the Trump administration has rejected that theory, ACEP and other pro-abortion activist organizations are once again fearmongering about women losing access to emergency care for actual complications.
“It is shameful that abortion activists at ACEP are intentionally conflating elective abortion of a healthy fetus with life-saving medical and surgical procedures to save a woman with a non-viable ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage,” Dr. Jared Ross, an emergency room physician in Missouri, told The Federalist.
Upon the Trump administration’s revocation in early June, ACEP President Alison Haddock said, “EMTALA ensures that we can provide stabilizing care to any patient who needs it, including pregnant patients experiencing medical emergencies, and it’s more important than ever that we have its backing for our evidence-based medical decisions.”
Despite the deliberate lack of gendered language (ACEP apparently refuses to use “mother” or “woman” when referring to pregnant women), Haddock’s statement makes it sound like the Trump administration’s move puts emergency care for complications in pregnancy at risk…..”

“Trump’s Right — Voting By Mail Endangers Election Accuracy”
The Federalist, By: John and Andy Schlafly, August 25, 2025
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Sandwiched between Trump’s high-powered meetings with foreign leaders, Trump took the time to prioritize ending fraud-prone mail-in voting. Slightly more than half of our country – 28 states – permit mail-in voting without any documented reason or excuse.
Earlier this month, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit Judge James Ho began his decision in favor of a voter ID law in Texas by declaring, “Mail-in ballots are not secure.” The vast majority of the world agrees and has banned the permissive mail-in voting that is allowed here. Our postal service was never intended to conduct elections. That is not its mission. The delivery standards of our postal service have been declining, such that postmarks are no longer consistently used and letters are no longer reliably received within three days of being mailed.
Like the designated hitter rule in baseball that many traditional fans oppose, a team needs to use what is allowed in order to win. Campaigns should encourage Republicans to vote early, including by mail, in states that allow it, while also seeking a return to Election Day-only voting for everyone to improve election integrity.
Federal law has long required that national elections be held on only one day, and our country would be better off with a return to that gold standard for everyone. As the Fifth Circuit explained on Aug. 4 by quoting from a report by the bipartisan Commission on Federal Election Reform, “absentee ballots remain the largest source of potential voter fraud.”
Yet liberals are in a tizzy over Trump’s new push against mail-in voting, and stories about it have displaced news about Trump’s meetings with foreign leaders. Corporate media doubt that Trump can end mail-in voting by executive order, as Trump indicates he will do. Democrats insist there is no evidence that mail-in voting is susceptible to fraud, but they have blocked attempts by Republicans to audit signatures on mail-in ballots to check for authenticity. Some have destroyed records concerning the flood of mail-in ballots used in 2020 to elect Biden.
The Republican-controlled Congress has failed to hold hearings on this important issue, and the Department of Justice (DOJ) has failed to investigate it. Instead, Republicans like Trump’s chief of staff in 2020, Mark Meadows, remain under indictment by a Democrat county prosecutor in Georgia for questioning the massive number of mail-in ballots counted in favor of Biden to surprisingly award him that state in 2020.
Since 2020, 19 states have enacted restrictions on mail-in voting. A surge of 33 million mail-in ballots in 2020 was used to elect Biden, and there has never been a real investigation as to the legitimacy of that massive spike, which was not seen again in 2024.
“REMEMBER, WITHOUT FAIR AND HONEST ELECTIONS, AND STRONG AND POWERFUL BORDERS, YOU DON’T HAVE EVEN A SEMBLANCE OF A COUNTRY,” Trump posted Monday morning prior to his high-profile meeting with European leaders. Trump is impressed by how other countries have long prohibited mail-in voting “because of the MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD ENCOUNTERED.”
As nearly half of our country limited mail-in ballots in the 2024 election, Kamala Harris received 6.3 million fewer votes than Biden did four years earlier. At the same time, Trump received three million more votes in 2024 than in 2020. The Harris campaign spent $1.5 billion in 2024, which included paying for ballot harvesters, yet there is little explanation of what all that money funded. House Republicans and the DOJ should be investigating this, but have failed to.
“We, as a Republican Party, are going to do everything possible that we get rid of mail-in ballots,” Trump responded to reporters at the White House on Monday. “We’re going to start with an executive order that’s being written right now by the best lawyers in the country to end mail-in ballots.”
DOJ has spent tens of millions of dollars investigating critics of the reported election outcome in 2020, and yet apparently not a dime has been spent by DOJ on investigating rampant ballot harvesting and drop-box ballot dumps in 2020. There has been no investigation to explain the 6.3 million votes for the Democrat presidential nominee that disappeared between 2020 and 2024.
Trump’s opponents say that Germany and a few other Western countries allow mail-in voting, but only with stricter rules than in the United States, such as Germany’s requirement that ballots be received by Election Day to be counted. France banned mail-in voting due to fraud, and most other European, Middle Eastern, and Latin American nations also prohibit it.
In too many of our states, mail-in signatures are not verified and ballots are accepted until 14 days after Election Day. Paid political operatives continue to have far too much influence over the harvesting of ballots.”

“The nonprofit that manages Central Park has thrown its support behind a proposal to end the horse-drawn carriages that have been fixtures in the greenspace for more than 150 years.
For more than 150 years, horse-drawn carriages have been trotting through Manhattan’s Central Park, weathering the arrival of the automobile, years of criticism from animal rights activists and even a mayoral administration that vowed to ban the tourist activity. But now the influential nonprofit that manages the 843-acre park — and has previously stayed out of the debate — has now thrown its support behind a proposal to wind down the industry as early as next summer.
The Central Park Conservancy argued in an Aug. 12 letter to the City Council that horse carriages have an outsized impact on public safety and road infrastructure in the increasingly crowded park. “We can’t be just frozen in time,” said Elizabeth Smith, the conservancy’s CEO, in an interview this week. “Horses are too unpredictable and the roadways are too busy with too many different kinds of users now — bikers, runners, pedestrians, strollers.”
Smith noted other cities have done away with the nostalgic rides, including San Antonio, which passed a five-year phase out of the industry last year. Chicago banned it starting in 2021 and Montreal did the same the year prior.”

It was a biden CHIPS act grant to Intel (free money to Intel).
Trump monetized the grant into an asset with 10% ownership to the Federal gov’t which is supposed to be for the benefit of We The People. Intel is considered a company of critical importance to national security.
While of course it’s better gov’t doesn’t have ownership of companies, the ship sailed a long time ago on the federal gov’t operating within the constraints of the constitution.
So Trump used the biden unconstitutional CHIPS act to acquire an asset for We The People. Turning lemons into lemonade.

“Trump is Setting the Stage”
Clandestine, Aug 25, 2025
“Trump is conducting a strong messaging campaign to bring maximum attention to the crime reduction in DC, thanks to the NG and federal presence. Trump is making sure the public see that he is stopping crime, so they will accept him replicating this in cities nationwide.
This was always the plan. Trump has to deploy the NG to Democrat-run cities nationwide, but not make it seem like a military takeover. Trump is doing it nice and slow, to avoid creating widespread panic.
After Trump has the NG deployed in cities nationwide, not only will crime be significantly reduced, but Trump will have a standing deterrent on-hand to address any backlash for upcoming high-profile arrests related to Russiagate and the grand conspiracy case.
It’s beautiful.”

“Belgium: Syrian man says age difference ‘not a problem’ in his culture after being prosecuted for raping two minors, including his 14-year-old pregnant wife. The suspect tried to justify both cases of rape with a reference to the cultural context in his native Syria”
Remix News Staff, August 25, 2025
(Open hand of young girl trying to protect herself from violence with dark dramatic photographic effect“
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “A 22-year-old Syrian man, identified as N., is on trial in Brussels for the rape of two minors. One of the victims is his current pregnant wife, who is 14. He has justified his behavior in both cases that in his home country of Syria, it is accepted that such age differences exist. The prosecution is seeking a four-year prison sentence, while the defense argues that the situation should be viewed within a different cultural context.
The first case dates back to November 2023, when a 14-year-old Syrian girl, accompanied by her mother, reported a rape to a sexual violence treatment center (CPVS). The girl, who did not speak much French, told a nurse that she had been raped and had lost her virginity, according to Belgium news outlet DH.
While an official complaint was filed, it was withdrawn just two days later. Despite the withdrawal, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office opened a case after receiving a copy of the suspect’s residence permit, which identified him as N. However, police did not question him about the alleged rape until June 2024. N. denied the charges and stated that the age difference was “not a problem” in his culture. His lawyer, Nathalie Gallant, noted that the victim later said she felt caught between her parents and N., who wanted to leave her for another person.
The prosecutor’s office chose not to pursue criminal charges at that time, instead issuing a formal reprimand.
He is caught with another minor just month’s later
Several months later, police officers spotted N. kissing a girl in a parked car and noticed their significant age difference. This led to a new investigation.
It was discovered that N. was now religiously married to a different Syrian girl, also 14, who was pregnant with his child. He was detained for a week before being released.
At a hearing, the prosecutor countered claims, made once again, that it was part of his culture to have sex with underage girls, stating, “I accept that there is a cultural context, but it cannot override the laws of the country in which we are hosted.” The prosecutor cited a Belgian legal precedent that prohibits sexual relations between an adult and a 14-year-old if the adult is more than three years their senior. Given that N. had already received a reprimand, the prosecutor requested a four-year prison sentence.
N.’s lawyer, Ms. Gallant, did not dispute the law said the prosecutor’s office, had previously opted for a simple reprimand rather than a criminal prosecution. She argued for a suspended sentence instead of prison time.
The case has been adjourned until early September for an expert report to be submitted.”

how disgusting! illegal bushmeat seized at airport. 2 separate shipments.
article
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted two separate shipments of bushmeat at Detroit Metropolitan Airport last month, including one haul of primate meat, in seizures officials say highlight the dangers of disease entering the United States.
Bushmeat—defined by U.S. health agencies as meat from wild animals such as bats, monkeys, and cane rats—is illegal to import into the country.
CBPOps and DFODetroit announced the discoveries Saturday in a joint post on Instagram, writing, “Scary!!! @DFODetroit CBP agriculture specialists intercepted back-to-back bushmeat at @DTWShots. Bushmeat poses serious risks to public health and violates federal regulations. CBP remains vigilant in protecting our borders and communities. #OFOProud🇺🇸 #CBP #OFO #ProtectingAgriculture #NationalSecurity.”
According to a press release issued August 20, CBP agriculture specialists discovered 11 pounds of rodent meat from Togo in one baggage examination and 52 pounds of primate meat—declared as antelope—days later in luggage arriving from Gabon. Both travelers also carried undeclared agricultural items. The seized meat was turned over to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and each passenger was fined $300 for failing to declare it.
“These recent bushmeat interceptions are significant in bringing attention to the illegal importation of bushmeat through our ports of entry,” Port Director Fadia Pastilong said in the statement. “This also showcases how we work with our partner agencies to prevent a potential disease outbreak.”
A 2024 entry on the CDC website warns that bushmeat can carry pathogens, including orthoebolaviruses, the family of viruses that cause Ebola. Importing any amount of bushmeat can result in seizure and fines of up to $250,000. While the CDC notes there have been no reported cases of Americans contracting disease from confiscated bushmeat, it stresses that the risk is serious.
Researchers have long pointed to the dangers. A 2019 Penn State report found that bushmeat samples from the Serengeti contained bacteria linked to anthrax, brucellosis, and Q fever.
The International Fund for Animal Welfare said in 2022 that demand for bushmeat in cities and abroad, including in Europe and North America, fuels a global industry and threatens both biodiversity and human health. The group cited estimates that five tons of wild animal meat are smuggled through Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport each week.
Nevertheless, bushmeat is an essential element of West African diets. One study estimated that in some regions, bushmeat constitutes 80–90% of animal protein intake.
CBP officials in Detroit said that while rodent-type bushmeat is intercepted sporadically, primate meat seizures are rare. They cautioned that consumption of bushmeat in parts of Africa, where it is sometimes eaten raw or minimally processed, heightens the risk of diseases like Ebola and mpox spreading to new populations.
“We routinely find various agriculture items and oddities—live giant snails, animal skulls, and exotic food items—but most times it’s not a malicious act,” said Director of Field Operations Marty C. Raybon. “Despite this, it’s our duty to protect the homeland and preventing certain food and animal products from entering the U.S. is essential to public health.”

Just The News: “House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer launched an investigation on Monday into the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) crime data, alleging that the force manipulated the information to hide the scope of crime in the nation’s capital.
Comer wrote a letter to MPD Chief of Police Pamela Smith on Monday, noting that the department recently made a settlement regarding allegations that senior officials falsified the city’s crime statistics, and Third District Commander Michael Pulliam was placed on administrative leave following allegations that he altered crime reports.
The committee is requesting documents, information, and transcribed interviews with Pulliam and the District Commanders of all seven patrol districts by Sept. 2.
“A whistleblower with knowledge of internal MPD operations and discussions around crime statistics provided the Committee with information related to allegations that crime statistics were manipulated on a widespread basis and at the direction of supervisory officials within MPD,” Comer wrote.
“According to the whistleblower, although MPD took action with respect to a single District Commander, this problem potentially impacts all seven patrol districts,” he went on.
Also, the whistleblower indicated “that MPD leadership routinely instructed District Commanders to downgrade charges to artificially reduce certain crime statistics,” the letter reads.
Comer also noted that President Donald Trump’s federal takeover of the capital earlier this month “is a direct response to a lack of faith in city leadership to put an end to high levels of violent crime.”

“The farside sunspots are turning to face us bombarding protons down to earth…
Last week, sunspot groups on the farside of the sun hurled multiple significant CMEs into space. They’re not on the farside anymore. Today, the active regions are turning to face Earth:
