Today is Shelley Long’s birthday (born in 1949) and this is one of my favorite movies: Troop Beverly Hills. I found this article on the Mental Floss website.
From: mentalfloss.com:
1. THE FILM WAS PARTLY BASED ON THE LIFE OF ITS PRODUCER.
Ava Ostern Fries, wife of veteran producer Charles W. Fries, became the Brownie leader of her seven-year-old daughter’s Beverly Hills troop. When it rained on their first camping trip, they really went to the Beverly Hills Hotel, where they roasted marshmallows in front of the fireplaces. After her stories became a hit at dinner parties, Ava was implored to write her stories down.
2. DISNEY WANTED BETTE MIDLER TO PLAY PHYLLIS.
Ava Ostern Fries turned down Disney’s offer to make her movie because they wanted Bette Midler for the lead, and Fries didn’t think she was right for it.
3. CARLA GUGINO LIED ABOUT HER AGE IN ORDER TO PLAY CHICA.
Carla Gugino was 16 years old when she auditioned for Troop Beverly Hills. She lied and said she was 14. She finally admitted the truth to director Jeff Kanew three weeks into production, knowing it was too late for her role to be recast. “I thought for sure he was gonna be like, ‘No big deal,'” Gugino recounted. “But he was like, ‘Gasp! I would’ve never hired you if I knew you were 16.'”
The film was a turning point for Gugino: “I got emancipated that year, so I was a legal adult,” Gugino told The A.V. Club. “So I didn’t have to have a chaperone on set, and it was the first time that I made enough money that I could say, ‘I’m going to fully support myself as an actor.’ So that was the moment I really felt like a real actor.”
4. IT WAS TORI SPELLING’S FIRST FILM ROLE.
Tori Spelling, who played Jamie in the film, had appeared in a handful of television series, including Fantasy Island and The Love Boat. One year after Troop Beverly Hills was released, she was cast as Donna Martin on Beverly Hills, 90210.
5. IT WAS THE FIRST FILM IN 30 YEARS TO SHOOT INSIDE BEVERLY HILLS CITY HALL.

Filming inside of Beverly Hills City Hall had been forbidden for 30 years. Until this movie.
6. “COOKIE TIME” ISN’T WHERE IT USED TO BE.
The Giorgio boutique at 295 North Rodeo Drive is now a Louis Vuitton storefront.
7. THE WRITER OF “COOKIE TIME” MADE A CAMEO.
Actress/songwriter Hilary Shepard was the sales associate who sold Phyllis a dress missing a bead.
8. THE TITLE SEQUENCE WAS MADE BY THE CREATOR OF REN & STIMPY.
Creator John Kricfalusi said working on Troop Beverly Hills was a big opportunity. “It’s the first time I ever got a chance to animate and design a sexy girl,” he said. “It was completely taboo to draw women who were good looking because it would set a bad example for young girls.”
Joining Kricfalusi were Jon McClenahan (later an animator on Animaniacs), Jim Smith (who later worked with Kricfalusi on Ren & Stimpy), Mike Kazaleh (Camp Candy, The Simpsons), Kent Butterworth (The Smurfs, He-Man), and Eric Stefani (character layout artist for The Simpsons, co-founder of No Doubt, and brother of Gwen Stefani).
9. THERE ARE CONTINUITY ERRORS IN THE TITLE SEQUENCE.

At around the 2:15 mark, a troop member simply disappears with no explanation. Some of the actors’ names also didn’t fully appear on movie screens, because Kricfalusi placed them too close to the edges. “If [the studio] noticed, they didn’t care,” opening title supervisor Bill Kroyer said. “That’s a job that I hardly remember getting notes on. That’s the strangest thing. That whole production, it was rushed to get it done, and they really liked the look of the art. It’s all hand-inked and everything—it looks great. I think they were just so excited about that so the little things about the staging or composition, they just didn’t mention it.”
10. THERE WAS A 77 SUNSET STRIP EASTER EGG.
Edd Byrnes (who played Ross Coleman) appeared on the Swiss army knife’s comb on purpose. Byrnes portrayed Kookie in the detective drama 77 Sunset Strip (1958-1964), a character who combed his hair so often a novelty song called “Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb” was written.
11. THE GIRL SCOUTS REFUSED TO ENDORSE THE PICTURE.
They withheld approval because they didn’t like the way some Scouts were portrayed in the script.
12. IT WAS VELDA’S LAST FILM ROLE.
Betty Thomas retired from acting following Troop Beverly Hills to focus on directing for film and television. Among her more than two dozen credits are Private Parts, Doctor Dolittle, I Spy, and The Brady Bunch Movie (featuring Shelley Long).

13. JENNY LEWIS BECAME A ROCK STAR.
Jenny Lewis, who played Hannah, co-founded the band Rilo Kiley along with fellow child actor Blake Sennett (Salute Your Shorts, Boy Meets World) and later became a solo musician. In 2015, she acknowledged Troop Beverly Hills in her music video for “She’s Not Me.”
14. LEWIS KEPT ONE ITEM FROM THE SET.
“I have the hat that Kellie Martin’s character [Emily Coleman] wore,” Lewis claimed. “It’s a little white hat with a pink flower, but I don’t know why I still have it.”
15. PEOPLE KEEP MIXING HANNAH UP WITH TIFFANY.
Lewis said that people still confuse her with Emily Schulman, who played Tiffany Honigman in the movie (and Harriet Brindle on Small Wonder). “My entire life growing up, everyone thought I was this girl who was on Small Wonder, Emily Schulman,” Lewis told Rolling Stone Australia. “Not the case. And then I put out this video (“She’s Not Me”) and someone on Twitter was like, ‘Oh, were you on Small Wonder?’ Oh, drat! Still happening!”

Cracker Barrel has been one of the most loved brands in America for decades… That changed this week with a logo redesign that infuriated the public but… the problem goes MUCH deeper than a logo.
@CrackerBarrel has gone fully woke and now it’s time to expose everything.
Here’s the highlights you need to know:
• Cracker Barrel has funded “all ages” Pride events for many years like Nashville Pride and Third River City Pride.
• Cracker Barrel worked with the far left HRC organization and reportedly sponsored HRC events for 10 years. They even brought an HRC representative to their Tennessee HQ to do a pronoun and transgenderism training. We’ve included photos of this in the video. As a reminder, the HRC supports child sex changes and men in women’s bathrooms. They work to normalize/legalize both things and they work to force transgenderism in the workplace.
• Cracker Barrel worked with a group called Conexión Américas as part of their DEI efforts. This group helps illegal immigrants, providing them lawyers and the executive director opposes President Trump’s deportations.
• Cracker Barrel sponsored the Out & Equal LGBTQ Workplace Advocate Conference and presented a workshop on how Cracker Barrel has made progress supporting LGBTQ+ causes. This group works to push sexual topics and pronouns into the workplace.
• Cracker Barrel was awarded Out & Equal’s 2018 top LGBT ERG group award and they won the Nashville LGBT Chamber of Commerce “Corporate Diversity” award.
• CB created a special “diverse” suppliers program focused on increasing “diversity” among suppliers. To most people this just reads as: less white people.
• Had Coming out day pamphlets passed out at their TN headquarters as well as pamphlets about supporting “LGBTQ YOUTH” and creating “Safe Zones” at work, free from “heterosexist or cwordgendered comments and actions” (X will downrank my post if I spell that word out). If you said anything activists would describe as “heterosexist” then you were told that you’d be “educated” by their LGBT office group.
• CB has had multiple DEI focused employees and had CB employees attend DEI roundtables.
• CB had pride flags at their corporate office.
• CB promoted the Stonewall riot to employees and on their website despite the fact that the Stonewall Inn was reportedly owned by the mafia, rife with drug dealing and also the site of teen “prostitution” for older men.
• Had a Cracker Barrel employee on the HRC’s business advisory council.
• Has ERG groups in the office that are divided by race and sexual preferences.
• A total commitment to DEI policies.
• CB has had MANY activist employees driving this far left policy agenda, including a head of training + management, top execs and a board of directors member who owns a DEI consulting firm.
To put it mildly, Cracker Barrel has forgotten who their core customers are. It’s time for us to remind them.
They depend on YOU to keep their business afloat so now YOU have to ask yourself:
Do you want to fund people or companies that hate your values?
It’s time to remind them who their customers are.
If you think their values don’t align with yours and you’re a customer who wants to speak out, you can write to them here: guestrelations.crackerbarrel…
Reporters can also call their reporter hotline at: 615-235-4135 or email them: media.relations@crackerbarrel.com
Remember to ALWAYS BE KIND. Many in customer service agree with you.
Being rude hurts our cause! I give everyone permission to use my video and what we found to make your own content. You can rip this, clip this, make your own content, etc. You can even monetize my video. Just get this information to everyone you know. We have to take our power back as consumers.

Just The News: “Famous horse jockey Ron Turcotte, who rose to fame by riding the legendary race horse Secretariat to the 1973 Triple Crown, died on Friday at his home in Canada at the age of 84-years-old. Turcotte’s long-time friend, Leonard Lusky, confirmed the jockey’s death in a statement from Turcotte’s family, who said he died of natural causes at his home in Drummond, New Brunswick.
“Ron was a great jockey and an inspiration to so many, both within and outside the racing world,” Lusky said. “While he reached the pinnacle of success in his vocation, it was his abundance of faith, courage, and kindness that was the true measure of his greatness.”
The jockey was inducted into the racing Hall of Fame in 1979 and won more than 3,000 races during his iconic career. He won all three of the Triple Crown’s races twice, including the time he won all three consecutively with Secretariat, per Fox News. Turcotte’s and Secretariat’s record in the Belmont Stakes still stands at 2 minutes and 24 seconds.
“The world may remember Ron as the famous jockey of Secretariat, but to us he was a wonderful husband, a loving father, grandfather, and a great horseman.” the Turcotte family said.
Turcotte was the last surviving member of Secretariat’s Triple Crown team: Secretariat died in 1989, groom Eddie Sweat died in 1998, trainer Lucien Laurin in 2000 and owner Penny Chenery in 2017, according to the Associated Press.”

Just The News: “At least five people are dead and dozens more were injured on Friday after a New York tour bus crashed while transporting at least 50 passengers from Niagara Falls to New York City. The investigation into the crash, which is led by the New York State Police, is still ongoing, but officials said the crash was not caused by mechanical failure or impairment of the driver.
Local hospitals have accepted at least 30 patients from the bus crash with a range of injuries from critical to minor, including head and internal injuries and broken bones. Others have been deemed medically stable. Earlier reports indicated that a child was among those who were killed in the crash, but the state police have since corrected the record and said all who have died so far were adults. The names of the deceased have not been released.
Officials believe most of the passengers were not wearing a seat belt, because multiple people were ejected from the bus.
“[An] investigation determined that a tour bus owned by M&Y Tour Inc was traveling east bound on the I-90 from Niagara Falls, NY to New York City,” the state police said in a news release. “The bus exited the roadway into the median then abruptly corrected causing the bus to overturn and roll off the I-90 on the south embankment.”
The state police said there were a total of 54 people on the bus, consisting of 52 passengers and two people who worked for the bus company. New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul confirmed that she has been briefed on the “tragic” crash and is working with state police and local officials to provide assistance.”

EXCERPT: “Pierre Poilievre’s political comeback started with his by-election victory Monday to a new seat in Canada’s House of Commons after his Conservative Party’s stunning reversal of fortune in April elections, prompted by “wacko” Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation.
The Alberta-based party leader’s second attempted path to dethrone the Liberals under Mark Carney may now run through gender-ideology disputes in the adjoining province, where expressing the wrong views can imperil a medical license.
Vancouver nurse Amy Hamm’s month-long license suspension and $93,639.80 fine, for expressing gender-critical views online and through her billboard praising Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, didn’t get even a vague allusion in Poilievre’s victory speech days later. Neither did threats to gender-critical views or speech policing in general.
In a speech focused on crime, gun rights and the economy, the closest Poilievre got was sharing an anecdote from a female prison guard “who was tied up and viciously assaulted by a violent criminal” at the penitentiary where she worked.
But since Wednesday afternoon, the politico known as “Skippy” has shared his own and others’ outrage at least three times about the March 13 professional misconduct finding and Aug. 14 penalties against Hamm and what they say about freedom in Canada.
“This is authoritarian censorship,” Poilievre wrote on X, sharing a National Post column Monday criticizing the “grotesque attack on free speech” by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives, whose investigation of Hamm dates back four years. “We must restore free speech and free thinking in a free country,” Poilievre said…..”

EXCERPT: “Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., wants to make one thing perfectly clear: She has never said Sydney Sweeney has “perfect [breasts].” Nor has she accused her fellow Democrats of being “too fat to wear jeans or too ugly to go outside.”
The Minnesota leftist attempted to clear the air earlier this week in a New York Times opinion piece headlined, “Amy Klobuchar: What I Didn’t Say About Sydney Sweeney.”
Klobuchar wrote that she is the victim of a hoax, a “realistic deepfake.” Some trickster apparently put together and pushed out an AI-generated video in which Klobuchar appears to make (hilariously) outrageous comments about Sweeney’s American Eagle jeans ad — after liberals charged that the commercial is racist and an endorsement of eugenics. ‘Party of Ugly People’
The doctored Klobuchar appears to be speaking at a Senate committee hearing, She demands Democrats receive “representation.” Of course, the satirical video has gone viral.
“If Republicans are going to have beautiful girls with perfect ti**ies” in their ads, we want ads for Democrats, too, you know?” the fake Klobuchar asserts in the vid. “We want ugly, fat bitches wearing pink wigs and long-ass fake nails being loud and twerking on top of a cop car at a Waffle House ‘cause they didn’t get extra ketchup.”
“Just because we’re the party of ugly people doesn’t mean we can’t be featured in ads, okay?” the AI Amy implores. “And I know most of us are too fat to wear jeans or too ugly to go outside, but we want representation.”
She appears — and sounds — so sincere. But Klobuchar wants you to know it certainly was not her saying such “vulgar and absurd” things. That’s why she’s urging Congress to pass laws to ban such AI videos, which would be as absurd as social justice warriors calling American Eagle white supremacists for paying a blue jeans-clad, beautiful actress to say she has great jeans.
Any such law would certainly and rightly be challenged in court.
‘Joke Police’
Last year, the Democrat-controlled Hawaii legislature passed a bill banning the kind of AI-generated content that’s put a bee in Klobuchar’s bonnet. The law imposes criminal and civil penalties for posting digitally modified content that “risks harming the reputation or electoral prospects of a candidate in an election.”
“Now think about that for a minute, isn’t the whole point of a campaign to harm the electoral prospects of a candidate or to change the voting behavior of voters in an election? It’s outlawing politics, basically,” Ryan Bangert, senior vice president for strategic initiatives at Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) said on a recent episode of The Federalist Radio Hour.
The Christian litigation and advocacy organization is representing The Babylon Bee and Hawaii voter Dawn O’Brien in a lawsuit against what ADF calls a “draconian law.” Hawaii’s assault on parody is similar to a California law signed by far-left Gov. Gavin Newsom following the release of an AI-generated video of the Democratic Party’s stand-in presidential nominee, then-Vice President Kamala Harris, satirically announcing her campaign……”

“248 legally deceased “patients” are in these dewars awaiting future revival…
There was a really fascinating series of articles written by a cryonics true believer who was disheartened and disillusioned by what he saw trying to be a pioneer in the industry in the 70s and 80s and how the bodies were mistreated. It also discussed how many of these projects couldn’t self sustain and the bodies were allowed to thaw and turn into sludge.
He also saw the perfusion process of rapidly making the blood cold was done in a way that guaranteed infections and issues on many bodies because the perfusion techs basically didn’t care because, he suspected, they thought the whole idea these would be people brought back to life someday was a fantasy.
Cryonics: An Historical Failure Analysis is the series in there I think. Even had pictures which are cool…
http://chronopause.com/chronopause.com/index.php/2012/04/22/cryonics-an-historical-failure-analysis-part-ii-inherent-failure-mechanisms-and-risks-part-1/index.html
It costs $200k for full body preservation. $80k for brain preservation. You fund it by buying both a monthly membership while you’re alive (~$100/mo or less, depending on age) and additionally buying a life insurance policy from them, naming them as the beneficiary, and if you die between the ages of 25 and 50, they will use the money from that policy to preserve you. Unclear what the process is if you’re over 50.
It also says that if your death results in some kind of delay (eg: needing an autopsy or police investigation) you’re basically down the drain…
Gosh that’s a good way to make money…Meanwhile, ’20 bodies or so’ found behind ‘hidden’ door in various states of decay at Pueblo County coroner’s private business…”

I got a lot accomplished in the last 2 hours – gorgeous weather to be doing yard work, only 75 with a nice steady breeze – mowed the entire place, did some weed-eating, and have another load of yard debris to go to the dump. I finally got all of the bark from the cottonwood tree picked up and loaded in the truck. Still need to clear all of the grass clippings from that bed but I need to get a leaf blower for that. When I’m done, this will be a definite show place! LOL

“USDA: Our Pets and Livestock are in Danger: There is no reporting system for adverse events for veterinary vaccines at the USDA”
Robert W Malone MD, MS, Aug 23, 2025
EXCERPT: “As most of you know, Jill and I have been breeding horses for over two decades. We take this very seriously, and usually have somewhere between ten and twenty horses here on the farm. We strive for the best quality possible and specialize in a rare breed called the Lusitano. A horse whose preservation is a worthy cause, as it is probably the oldest domesticated breed in the world and represents our collective western military history for the past millennia, before modern warfare. The Lusitano is the quintessential warhorse. This is a passion that pays the taxes and makes a little profit, but not much more.
So, we are often confronted with what, if any, vaccine schedule to use on the foals, broodmares and performance horses on the farm. Each category has a unique set of parameters. For Jade, Jill’s stallion and now our five-year-old stallion, Quartz – they are shown in USEF/USDF/FEI shows. Therefore, they are required to follow a rigid and frankly, obscene vaccination schedule to enter the showgrounds at a sanctioned show.
In order to highlight just how crazy the veterinary vaccination system has become, I offer the following examples of what people are required to do in the horse world.
For showing horses at US Equestrian Federation (USEF) licensed competitions, horses are required to have the following vaccines every six months of a show date. Yes, you read that right – every six months, as a minimum.
For upper-level horses in FEI, which determine Olympic caliber horses and world champions, the requirements are more stringent, and there is also a 7-day waiting period after vaccination. This must all be documented. Then temperatures have to be recorded, starting three days prior to the event, and two temperature readings per day (morning and evening) for the three days leading up to arrival is also required. These readings must be entered in the FEI HorseApp. Reporting is strictly enforced, and failure to comply may result in sanctions.
This is all being done to “prevent infectious diseases.” Instead, what this all becomes is a program to build little dictators within the horse industry, all in the name of “safety.’
With EHV-1, very rarely, a horse will develop a neurologic form (EHM), which can be fatal. The estimated number of horses developing EHM (neurologic EHV-1) per year in the US is typically in the dozens, ranging up to 100 or slightly more in years with higher outbreak activity.
As of 2025, the estimated total number of horses in the United States is between 6.6 million and 10.3 million. So, because of the fear of a rare complication – which vaccination does not prevent in most cases – horse owners are forced to pay significant amounts of money, allow their horses to be handled by veterinarians (who are in contact with hundreds of other horses at a show and locally), all to prevent 100 cases of the neurologic form. The original reason for the horse show organizations requiring this vaccine every six months was to stop the neurologic form. When that reason was proven no longer valid, it didn’t stop the organizations from requiring the vaccinations!
Nearly all adult horses are exposed to, or latently infected with, EHV-1, EHV-4, or both viruses during their lifetimes. Estimates suggest up to 70–90% of horses become infected and carry latent (dormant) virus, even if they show no clinical signs. EHV-1 and EHV-4 are among the most frequent causes of viral respiratory disease in horses worldwide. Most equine herpesvirus infections are mild and go unnoticed. The vaccine is basically ineffective.
The vaccine against EHM has literally proven to be almost useless at preventing infection; see the table below and the article linked here (ref), and may even cause neurologic form, as show horses are among those most likely to contract the neurologic EHM. Show horses are the one category of horse that is highly vaccinated, as documented above. Whether this complication is due to antibody-dependent enhancement or immune imprinting from the vaccine remains to be determined, and frankly, I doubt vaccine manufacturers are in any hurry to figure it out.
The ACVIM is the equine-focused group within the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, and is the leading certifying organization for veterinary specialists in internal medicine. This organization has recently come out with a damning consensus statement that reads:
“Evidence for successful vaccination against, or effective treatment of EHV-1 infection was limited, and improvements in experimental design and reporting of results are needed in future studies of this important disease.”
-ACVIM, consensus statement – published in the peer-reviewed journal, JVIM
So, basically, to show horses, which is required for getting top dollar and for establishing oneself as a good breeder, one must vaccinate every six months with leaky, ineffective vaccines, which may have significant adverse events.
Another example…..”
