Today is Erwin Schroedinger’s birthday (born in 1887 and passed away in 1961). He is famous for his explanation of Quantum mechanics using Schroedinger’s cat. What exactly is it? I found this “simplified” explanation on the culturacolectiva.com website.
From culturacolectiva.com:
Many of us have heard about Schrödinger’s cat, but let’s be honest, either we don’t even know what it is or we know about the theory but we don’t understand anything. Certainly, quantum mechanics is not exactly a piece of cake, so in order for you to have something to talk about at the next party, we leave you with a for dummies so you know it and can show it off to your friends.
What is Schrödinger’s cat?
We are sorry to tell you this cat never actually existed. Although it’s already part of popular culture (yes, they even talked about this cat in an episode of The Big Bang Theory), the Schrödinger’s cat paradox is a thought experiment devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger – one of the founders of quantum mechanics – back in 1935.
And what was this mad scientist trying to do? Well, he was trying to talk about a basic principle of quantum mechanics, that branch of physics that some people find exciting, while others flatly hate it. And believe it or not, this is how Erwin felt about quantum physics: he found it so philosophically disturbing that he decided to send it to hell and dedicate himself to biology.
So, what’s the experiment all about?
Now comes the good stuff, so sit up and pay attention to expand the horizons of your intellect (or have your brain explode).
The experiment Erwin devised goes like this: you have to put a cat inside a sealed box. Inside, next to the cat, is a container with hydrogen cyanide (a poisonous gas) threatened by a hammer connected to a radioactive container.
There is a 50% chance that after a period of time (say, one hour) radioactive decay of some atom inside the container will occur which would activate the hammer and break the cyanide container, releasing the poison that would kill the cat.
The other 50% of possibility tells us that this will not happen and therefore the cat is still alive.
Well, Schrödinger’s paradox tells us that we as spectators, on the outside, do not know if inside the box the cat is alive or dead, therefore, without verification, it is alive and dead at the same time.

How?
Yes, think about it, it’s like those times when you are asked if a tree falls in the middle of a forest but no one hears it, does the tree actually sound the thump of the falling tree? And the fact is that the spectator, not seeing inside the box, does not know the result, so the cat is alive and dead, and only the observation is what would change the result.
And this, my friends, is precisely quantum physics, which says that quantum objects can be in two states at the same time.
Two states at once? You don’t say…
This is not just a matter of the cat but is a metaphor to describe the state within this type of mechanics. According to quantum laws, the atom is in an intact and disintegrated state at the same time, which is called quantum superposition*. Only when we look at the particle can we know what state it is in at the moment (like the cat, remember?).
*Quantum superposition: a quantum phenomenon that is a consequence of the dual particle and wave nature of everything.
This action of looking to determine the state (of the atom or the cat, it doesn’t matter, the cat was just an example) is called collapse, and it is that we practically screw up the quantum property it has and it will only be able to materialize in one state (like looking in the box and knowing if it is alive or dead).
But it doesn’t make sense
No, maybe our logic tells us that the cat is going to be alive or dead (there is no other way!) but in the atomic world, the properties of things are governed by laws that are not simple and that is where probability comes in.
For example light. Light, like electrons, has a wave nature, but it also has particle characteristics. But you can’t pick up light with your hands, can you? It stays in two simultaneous states.
Let’s go back to the superposition
The fact of two states at the same time responds to the fact that for an object to have a wavelength, it must extend over some region of space, i.e… it occupies many positions at the same time. omg!
This can lead to other theories such as those of the quantum multiverse. Let’s think: if the cat can be alive or dead but it depends on observation, isn’t it feasible that both possibilities are in fact occurring in parallel but within a multiverse?
More than a cat
Although Schrödinger got fed up with quantum physics and decided it was not worth it, beyond the cat, the physicist formulated one of the most important equations in history: the Schrödinger equation (he was not so original when it came to names).

Here we leave the formula for you to calculate it (Photo: YouTube).
This formula, something like Newton’s second law but for quantum mechanics, contains all the properties and information of any particle. This simple formula is a wave function capable of describing the state of a particle such as energy or position. Because let’s review: if the particle is in two states at the same time, how do you determine anything about it? Unfortunately one of the problems with the equation is that it cannot measure all values simultaneously.
Well, now you know about Schrödinger’s cat and the next time it comes up in the conversation of your educated friends you will be able to explain clearly (or not?) why this cat lives in the collective mind of the whole world.

Good Morning All!
same old, same old sky-wise here.
Just as I was about to take the feeders out, I spied a buck and grabbed the noculators…
the buck was gorgeous! already a 6 pointer! and his horns were curving front with y’s on the ends. he’s gonna be magnificent!! AND he was hanging out with a doe and 2 small twin fawns still covered in spots–that’s really rare. bucks separate from the doe and fawn as soon as their horns start coming out.

Good morning, Pat! Goodness, you know a LOT about deer! Slate gray skies here but it’s always like that at this hour….chilly @ 61 and humid, of course. I’ve taken my jelly feeders down – nothing but flies, bees and other flying insects feeding now – I haven’t seen an Oriole for some time. And I’m betwixt and between as to the seed blocks – seems like only the Blue Jays are feeding on them lately…..but every once in a while, I do see a woodpecker on it so I guess I’ll keep putting them out….sigh.
Sheesh! That formula took me back to when I was working for a physics PhD (we plebes called them ‘fuds’) – I didn’t understand them either. Waaaay too convoluted for my mechanically-inclined, practical brain.

Morning Filly!
I have a lot of hunters in the family and living in the woods for this long, I’ve made a lot of observations and looked stuff up to see if i was right.
I understand the concept of being both alive and dead in the example, and that has helped a lot in dealing with unknowns. and i love math–but haven’t done equations like that in a month of Sundays!

Good morning, Y’all!
I’ve been living that To Do list for a while now…. Just been messing around and still haven’t fully unloaded the car since the last trip to the Village.
Weather is typical – but folks in the South are all keeping a wary eye on Erin.
The spaghetti models have her becoming a major hurricane by Sunday, but curving off into the north Atlantic. I surely hope so.

EXCERPT: “A Virginia school district that allegedly socially transitioned a “gender-nonconfirming” 14-year-old girl into a boy’s identity, hid it from her legal parents, told her to use the boys’ restroom even after boys started threatening her, and “pressured her to recant” those threat claims, will have to defend itself again in trial court.
A split panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated the lawsuit by Michele Blair, who with her husband adopted their granddaughter Sage at age 2 from foster care, where she had been placed after her father’s death and mother’s inability to raise her.
But it dismissed all but her Title IX “deliberate indifference” claim against the Appomattox County School Board, Superintendent Annette Bennett and its staff and contract counselors, and a dissent accused the majority of “push[ing] past the boundaries” set by the Supreme Court in student-on-student sexual harassment cases.
While the school board was “not entirely unresponsive” to Sage’s threat claims, giving her access to the nurse’s restroom, that falls short of “reasonably calculated” efforts to end her harassment, simply addressing it “in piecemeal,” wrote President Clinton-nominated Judge Roger Gregory, joined by President Biden nominee Judge DeAndrea Benjamin.
The court record shows “no indication” the board took action against the boys on the bus who allegedly “threatened her with sexual violence,” another group of males who “jacked” Sage against the wall and threatened her with violence, or students who “threatened to shoot” her “and told her they knew where she lived,” the majority says.
“In fact, the direct opposite happened” when school counselor Dena Olsen and deputy sheriff Daniel Gunter allegedly interrogated her and tried to get her to take back her claims that the boys were threatening her, Gregory wrote. Olsen had first told Sage to use the boys’ restroom and to go back when other girls reportedly complained about her in the girls’ restroom.
Even after being told to use the nurse’s restroom, Sage “continued to be so fearful for her and her family’s life that she ‘suffered a psychotic breakdown’ and opted to run away from home to save her family,” the majority said…..”

Just The News: “The Defense Department on Monday confirmed that approximately 800 National Guard troops will begin arriving in Washington, D.C. in the upcoming week in order to supply logistical, administrative and physical support to local law enforcement. President Donald Trump announced he would crack down on crime in the capital city by deploying the National Guard. The president also said Attorney General Pam Bondi will assume control of the local police department.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth designated Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to oversee the deployment and said 100-200 guard members will be active in the city at any point in time. It is not clear how long the troops will be stationed in Washington.
“We will work alongside all D.C. police and federal law enforcement to ensure this city is safe [and] this city is beautiful,” Hegseth said in a statement. “As I always say about President Trump to the troops, ‘He has their back.’ And my message to the National Guard and federal law enforcement in Washington is, ‘We have your back as well. Be tough. Be strong. We’re right behind you.’”
Hegseth added that other National Guard units are ready to be deployed if called upon. The troops will be under a Title 32 status, meaning they are under local authority but are still federally funded, CNN reported.
Washington, D.C. Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser said she has asked all federal law enforcement in the city to wear identifiable clothing to avoid confusion.
The move comes after Trump sent National Guard troops to Los Angeles earlier this year to help quell unrest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. Trump also teased using federal power to enforce a crackdown on crime in other major American cities should their governments fail to address the situation. Trump cannot take over other cities’ police departments but can activate the National Guard.
“You look at Chicago, how bad it is, you look at Los Angeles, how bad it is. We have other cities that are very bad,” he said. “New York has a problem. And then you have, of course, Baltimore and Oakland. We don’t even mention that anymore. They’re so far gone. We’re not going to let it happen. We’re not going to lose our cities over this.”
“And this will go further. We’re starting very strongly with D.C., and we’re going to clean it up real quick,” he added.”

NF: WTF? “…..hopefully, he can turn his life around…” about the killer. Why on earth would Morin’s half-sister say such a thing??? How ridiculous!!! Personally, I’d much prefer the death penalty instead of the taxpayers supporting his ass for the rest of his rotten life!!!!
Just The News: “The illegal migrant who killed Maryland mother Rachel Morin was sentenced on Monday to life in prison without the chance of parole for the woman’s murder. Victor Martinez-Hernandez was found guilty in April of killing, kidnapping and raping the 37-year-old Morin last year, who was a mother of five. Morin was killed while on a hiking trail in Maryland. Authorities arrested Hernandez last year, alleging that he entered the U.S. and continued a crime spree that began in El Salvador.
Hernandez was given the maximum sentence for each count, including life without parole for first-degree murder, life for first-degree rape, and 40 years for a sex offense and kidnapping, CBS News reported.
“Arguably, Harford County has never seen a case or a defendant more deserving of every single day of the maximum sentences this court imposed,” Harford County State’s Attorney Alison Healey told reporters after the sentencing.
Hernandez is expected to serve his sentence in Maryland and will not be deported back to his home country of El Salvador.
“There’ll always be an empty void in our lives, and in the children’s lives, but we do get some closure,” Morin’s half-sister, Erin Morin Layman, said after the sentencing. “So we can move on from this and know he’s not gonna get out. Rachel’s kids are not gonna have to cross paths with him ever again, and hopefully he can turn his life around.”

Baltimore is another cesspool that needs to be drained!!!!
Just The News: “President Donald Trump announced Monday that his administration is placing the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control and activating the National Guard to address violent crime in the nation’s capital.
The move, made under Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, includes sending 800 National Guard troops to the district, according to the White House. Trump called the announcement “Liberation Day” and said it is aimed at reestablishing public safety.
Standing alongside Trump at the White House, FBI Director Kash Patel cited Virginia’s recent law enforcement efforts as an example. Patel said that with Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s partnership, a Northern Virginia task force removed red tape, provided police with intelligence support and coordinated with the U.S. Department of Justice on prosecutions. “In one month, we arrested 545 violent felons … thanks to Governor Youngkin’s partnership,” Patel said, adding that the same approach will be brought to Washington.
Youngkin shared Patel’s remarks on social media, saying that backing law enforcement and reducing bureaucratic barriers helps catch criminals and make streets safer.
Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears also praised the announcement, writing on social media that “D.C. crime doesn’t stop at the Potomac — it rides our Metro, invades our neighborhoods, and puts families in harm’s way.” She thanked Trump “for having the backbone to make our capital safe again.”
In Maryland, Gov. Wes Moore criticized Trump’s decision, calling it “deeply dangerous” and saying the president’s plan “lacks both data and a battle plan.” Moore, who serves as commander-in-chief of the Maryland National Guard, said he takes the deployment of service members “personally and seriously” and accused Trump of using “honorable men and women as pawns to distract us from his policies.”
Moore pointed to Baltimore’s recent crime reductions, noting that homicides statewide have dropped more than 20% since his inauguration, and said the city is now the safest it has been in five decades. “We await outreach from the White House if they want to have a serious conversation about public safety,” Moore said. “But we won’t hold our breath.”
Monday’s executive order invokes Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, which allows the president to direct the D.C. mayor to provide the Metropolitan Police Department’s services for federal purposes during an emergency.
Under the law, the initial control period can last up to 48 hours before congressional notification is required and may be extended up to 30 days unless Congress acts to end or extend it. Trump’s order delegates operational control to the U.S. attorney general.”

“There Is No Way To Moderate Transgenderism. It Must Be Destroyed — A New York Times author quietly made a series of admissions that, only a few years ago, would have been dismissed as reactionary bigotry.”
The Federalist, By: Nathanael Blake, August 12, 2025
EXCERPT: “Transgenderism is retreating. In a recent piece in The New York Times, Kinnon R. MacKinnon —“an assistant professor who studies transgender care at York University in Toronto” and identifies as a “trans man”— grudgingly admits that the critics were right and that gender ideology, and especially the medical transition of children, was built on lies.
MacKinnon did not put it so directly, of course. Rather, she eagerly bashed the Trump administration’s efforts against gender ideology, complaining that “Under the guise of protecting children from medical harm, the Trump administration is oversimplifying detransition and using it as a political cudgel against transgender health care.” Nonetheless, she quietly makes a series of admissions that, only a few years ago, would have been dismissed as reactionary bigotry.
MacKinnon admits that instances of regret are (much) higher than the 1 percent rate often cited by trans activists. As she explained, that 1 percent rate was on the low end, even among earlier studies of adults, whereas newer studies of “young people have suggested it could now be higher, 5 percent to 10 percent — an increase that has come amid a sharp rise in the number of young people seeking care at gender clinics.”
She still understates the matter, for some of the better data sets suggest that rates of detransition are even higher, perhaps approaching one in three after only a few years of taking cross-sex hormones. And as critics of gender ideology have long pointed out, studies of transgenderism in general and regret in particular have often been poorly designed or hampered by follow-up losses as subjects drop out. Furthermore, studies of carefully screened Swedish adults are a poor guide to what will happen when American adolescents are medically transitioned with no screening at all.
Nonetheless, even if it is still an undercount, acknowledging higher rates of regret is an important concession, which leads to a second important acknowledgment. MacKinnon’s piece rebuts those who dismiss detransitioners as only a handful of cases. This argument — if may be dignified as such — takes the prominence of a few detransitioners, such as Chloe Cole, as evidence that they are the only ones. But there are many more detransitioners who, though not as outspoken, have still been hurt by gender ideology and the medical malpractice it has committed against them.
MacKinnon’s study of detransition surveyed “nearly 1,000 people about the factors that contributed to their decision” many of whom “felt let down by treatments, sometimes terribly so.” Ah. So, it wasn’t only Chloe.
This brings us to a third admission: Irreversible transition procedures, including surgeries, are being done to children, and these cases are especially likely to result in regret. As MacKinnon explained in her analysis of detransitioners, “33 percent … were much more likely to express strong regret with the decision to transition. Some felt that they had not been adequately informed about the risks of medical treatments.” Members of this group of detransitioners “were more likely to start treatment at a younger age and to begin a medical transition more quickly after realizing their trans identity.” They were overwhelmingly female and, “although fewer than 30 participants in our study reported having surgery as a minor, more than half of them were in this group.”….
….We should not fall for this. All of gender ideology is based on a lie, and so we should press our advantage and insist that laws and culture be rooted in truth. No one is born in the wrong body. Men and women are different, and their differences must be recognized and respected. Medical transition is mutilation, and inflicting it on troubled children is especially heinous and must be stopped entirely.”

“Trump calls Orbán a ‘smart man,’ says he’s ‘bothered’ by Zelensky ahead of Putin meeting — The U.S. president is dedicated to getting some key territory back for Ukraine but also did not refrain from still blaming Zelensky in part for the war”
ReMIX News, Remix News Staff, August 12, 2025
FILE — U.S. President Donald Trump (R) and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky meet in the Oval Office at the White House on February 28, 2025 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Andrew Harnik/Getty Images)
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “In response to a journalist’s question about whether Russia could be defeated in war, U.S. President Donald Trump replied that he had “asked a question to a very, very smart man that some people like and some people don’t like,” then naming Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán. “He’s in that same area and knows the two countries very well,” Trump continued, before telling press that in response to his question, Orbán “looked at me like, ‘What a stupid question.’”
The Hungarian leader then told Trump: “Russia’s a massive country, and they win their life through wars. They fight wars, that’s what they do,” adding that while China gets you with trade, Russia gets you with war. Trump was quick to note, however, that China has not beaten the U.S. in trade while he’s been in charge, reminding press that China had to pay $400 billion in tariffs during his last administration.
Donald Trump says his planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday will be exploratory and could be constructive. He added that the initiative came from Russia and that he will use the opportunity to push the Russian president to end the war.
“I would like to see a ceasefire and the best possible agreement that is possible for both sides,” said Trump. The president said he expects a constructive meeting with the Russian leader, adding that he will immediately inform Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders about what kind of agreement is possible.
Trump also mentioned among the possible outcomes of the planned meeting with the Russian president that he will get up from the table and say, “I’m done.”
“We will see what President Putin’s vision is, and if it is a fair agreement, we will convey it to the leaders of the European Union, to the leaders of NATO, and of course to President Zelensky, who I will call first out of respect, I think,” said the American president, adding that he might even conclude, “Good luck, keep fighting,” but also that an agreement is possible.
The U.S. president also said that the next meeting should be between Zelensky and Putin, and stressed that he was working to make it happen and would participate as a third party if necessary. At one point in his press conference yesterday, he indicated that he may just leave the two in the room alone together.
Trump stated that he has never been a friend of Russia, but has always gotten along well with President Putin, and also explained that he gets along well with Ukrainian President Zelensky. He still, however, noted that he “very, very severely disagrees with what he’s done” and that this war “should never have happened,” seemingly reverting back to blaming Ukraine for the war despite Russia being the aggressor and Ukraine being aggressively pushed by the Biden admin. Trump also laid blame squarely at Biden’s feet for the war both happening in the first place and being prolonged.
Trump said his goal is for Ukraine to regain certain prime coastal areas currently under Russian occupation. Again, he took aim at Zelensky, saying he was “a little bothered” by Zelensky saying he needs constitutional approval for any land swaps when he did not need any approval “to go to war and kill everybody,” again seemingly suggesting Ukraine should not have defended itself or indicating that the Biden admin worked with Zelensky to prod Moscow to attack in the first place.”

“Supreme Court formally asked to overturn Obergefell ruling on gay marriage”

From ABC News:
To be clear, Davis’s case is not merely one to clear her personal record. This is taking aim at the entire pro same-sex marriage ruling that was issued during the waning years of the Obama Administration.
This would be the first case, if accepted, to challenge the disastrous 2015 ruling against the true definition of marriage.

“Aging skin rejuvenated by young blood and bone marrow”
New Atlas, By Paul McClure, August 10, 2025
Combining young blood with bone marrow might lead to a new class of anti-aging ingredients. Depositphotos original enhanced using GenAI
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “From vampire legends to lab-grown tissue, the idea that young blood can reverse aging is no longer pure myth. A new study shows that proteins secreted by bone marrow cells, triggered by young blood, can rejuvenate aging skin in the lab.
According to lore, vampires drink the blood of the young to maintain their vitality. In a similar vein (pun intended), the 16th-century Hungarian countess Elizabeth Báthory was rumored to have bathed in the blood of young girls to preserve her youth. Then there’s the widespread QAnon conspiracy claiming that a global cabal of pedophiles is drinking the blood of children to gain immortality.
Well, science may well have caught up with myth. A new study out of Germany, led by the Research and Development arm of skin care company Beiersdorf AG, has examined whether young human blood contains factors that can rejuvenate aging skin. In short, they found that it can – but only in the presence of blood marrow cells.
The researchers wanted to follow up on animal experiments where old mice were rejuvenated by sharing blood circulation with young mice, something New Atlas has previously reported on, using human models. So, they created an advanced “organ-on-a-chip” system containing two 3D human organoids – a full-thickness skin model, and a bone marrow model, which included stem cells that give rise to blood cells. They introduced young (under 30) and old (over 60) human blood serum into this system to see if young serum improved the signs of aging in skin.
The researchers found that when the skin model was exposed to young serum without bone marrow cells, there was no improvement in aging markers. It was only when the skin model was co-cultured with bone marrow and then exposed to young serum that the researchers observed increased cell proliferation, reduced biological age, and improved mitochondrial (energy-producing) function in bone marrow cells. The young serum triggered changes in bone marrow cells, leading them to secrete rejuvenating factors. These altered cells secreted proteins that were shown to reverse signs of aging in skin models.
Using proteomics, the researchers identified 55 age-related proteins secreted by the bone marrow model in response to young serum. Of these, seven showed clear anti-aging effects when tested directly on aged human fibroblasts (cells that form connective tissue) and keratinocytes (the major cell type of the outermost layers of the skin) in the lab. Benefits included more cell division, higher collagen production, better mitochondrial health, and an increased ability to convert into fat-like cells, which is a sign of regenerative flexibility.
The study, though, has some limitations. The experiments ran for three to five weeks; the longer-term effects remain unknown. To avoid confounding variables, the skin models weren’t pre-aged using drugs or age-inducing treatments. The bone marrow models required added growth factors to remain viable, which might’ve confounded results to some extent – although comparisons were made between young and old serum under the same growth factor conditions.
Of course, these results were obtained in lab-grown tissue models. Real human bodies are far more complex. But the study does point to a promising new class of potential rejuvenating ingredients: proteins secreted by young bone marrow in response to systemic cues. These proteins could be explored for topical or injectable anti-aging skin treatments, or as biomarkers for skin aging or rejuvenation.
In the long term, this might lead to individualized therapies using components from a person’s own (young or engineered) bone marrow to restore aging tissues.
The study was published in the journal Aging.”

“A massive Wyoming data center will soon use 5x more power than the state’s human occupants – but no one knows who is using it — An energy leap which overshadows Wyoming’s population”
TechRadar, By Efosa Udinmwen, August 9, 2025
EXCERPT: “Inside a data center where storage servers populate dozens of racks:
Plans for a new AI data center in Cheyenne, Wyoming, have raised serious questions about energy use and infrastructure demands. The proposed facility, a collaboration between energy company Tallgrass and data center developer Crusoe, is expected to start at 1.8 gigawatts and could scale to an immense 10 gigawatts.
For context, this is over five times more electricity than what all households in Wyoming currently use.
A dedicated power supply for a silent tenant
Given the extraordinary energy demands, drawing power from the public grid is not an option – instead, the developers intend to power the site using a combination of natural gas and renewables, built specifically for the facility.
However, the mystery around the project continues to deepen because the future occupant of the data center has not been named. Speculation has focused on OpenAI, as the AI giant recently partnered with Crusoe on a separate facility in Texas, described as the “largest data center” in the world.
That project reportedly draws about a gigawatt of energy and is seen as part of OpenAI’s broader “Stargate” initiative. OpenAI has made commitments to develop several gigawatts of data center capacity, though the company has not publicly confirmed any presence in Wyoming.
When asked, Crusoe declined to confirm or deny whether this new site is tied to Stargate, fueling further uncertainty…..”

okay I’m stupid…why do we need mega data centers? what do they do? and don’t they require water as well?

AI, apparently….yes, Cuppa mentioned the water issue, too. But I really don’t know much about the subject.

got the first load of oak delivered. The guy brings his dogs with him and I made sure to buy dog treats this time! Only the little dachshund came this time though. I gave him a treat and he followed me around and around giving me the look. The guy saw me laughing and said you can give the little beggar 3 at the most–or else he’ll have gas all night and the wife will be mad at both of us! LOL

ROFL – too funny! Ah, dogs! Aren’t they great? I still want one – it would be great to have a companion….it would have to be a female, tho – can’t have a dog raising it’s leg on my flowers and killing ’em! And then there are the piles of poop in the yard….I guess if it was a really small dog, it wouldn’t be so bad but I’ve always liked bigger dogs….sigh…..

“FDA Turns ‘Blind Eye’ as Global Drugmaker in India Repeatedly Violates Safety Standards — Documents obtained by ProPublica show the FDA found dangerous violations at a Sun Pharma factory dating as far back as 2014. For years, U.S. inspectors returned and discovered that Sun’s safety “enhancements” were grossly inadequate, yet the U.S. agency did little to warn the public or stop the drugs from coming to the U.S.
ProPublica, By Megan Rose and Debbie Cenziper, August 12, 2025
EXCERPT: “The dispatches from one of India’s most troubled generic drug makers were contrite, filled with far-reaching promises to clean up its factory, stop contamination and send safe medication to Americans counting on the company’s drugs. “We have started addressing FDA concerns very aggressively and comprehensively,” an executive from Sun Pharma wrote to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2015. “Sun is ensuring the presence of a strong, independent quality unit,” the company repeatedly pledged.
An FDA inspection in 2014 had turned up dangerous violations at Sun’s factory in the Indian city of Halol, and the details were grim: Managers weren’t following basic rules to prevent the contamination of injectable drugs. They had failed to determine whether “unknown impurities” found in medication were toxic. The factory itself was in disrepair. The ceiling leaked and investigators observed dripping water, another dangerous contamination risk, collecting in buckets in a sterile manufacturing area.
Sun vowed bold reform at the factory, its flagship for the U.S. market. In a series of letters to the FDA after the inspection, executives described a long list of “enhancements” in facilities, in staffing, in quality standards, in training.
But for eight years, as inspectors returned and discovered again and again that Sun’s efforts were grossly inadequate, the FDA did little to warn the public or stop the drugs from coming to the U.S.
The trove of Sun correspondence obtained by ProPublica provides a rare glimpse into private discussions between the global drugmaker and the U.S. regulator singularly responsible for protecting consumers from unsafe medication.
The documents show how often the FDA tolerated Sun’s broken promises and substandard manufacturing, allowing an uninterrupted flow of generics to an American public clamoring for cheaper medication.
As Sun’s fixes fell short, the agency in 2015 even declared the factory’s products “adulterated,” which, according to federal law, means they were produced in a way that could have compromised their strength, quality and purity.
A 2015 warning letter from the Food and Drug Administration to Sun Pharma stated that the agency “identified significant violations of current good manufacturing practice” and that “these violations cause your drugs products to be adulterated.” Credit: Obtained and highlighted by ProPublica.
Not until the final weeks of 2022 would the agency bar the factory from shipping its drugs to the U.S. Even then, regulators immediately excluded more than a dozen medications from the ban. The exemptions allowed Sun to continue sending those drugs — with few restrictions and no regular testing by the FDA.
In June, 11 years after that first alarming inspection, the agency went back to the factory and chronicled practically identical deficiencies. Equipment was still dirty. Injectable medications still had impurities. One worker wasn’t wearing clean gloves…..”

“COVID Boosters Linked to Flu-Like Symptoms and Sick Days, Study Shows — A Swiss study of more than 1,700 healthcare workers, published Aug. 9 in Communications Medicine, showed that people who received a COVID-19 booster were more likely to contract respiratory illness and miss work than those who didn’t get the shot.”
by Suzanne Burdick, Ph.D., August 12, 2025
EXCERPT: “Healthcare workers who received a COVID-19 booster were up to 70% more likely to develop flu-like symptoms and miss work than those who didn’t get the shot, according to a new Swiss study. The increase was most pronounced immediately after vaccination. The authors said they considered the symptoms to be an indicator of COVID-19. However, they used the term “flu-like” because most healthcare workers no longer do routine COVID-19 testing.
The authors defined “influenza-like respiratory illness” as getting a fever and at least one respiratory symptom — such as a cough, sore throat, rhinitis or the loss of smell — and an “acute onset” in the previous week.
The study, published Aug. 9 in Communications Medicine, a Nature Portfolio journal, tracked 1,745 healthcare workers in Switzerland from November 2023 to May 2024 to see how their vaccination status affected their chances of contracting a respiratory illness and taking sick leave.
According to the report, the data suggest that vaccination with COVID-19 boosters “does not contribute to the protection of the healthcare workforce in a post-pandemic setting” and that “SARS-CoV-2 vaccination may even temporarily increase the likelihood of symptomatic infection and workday loss.”
10 states still require COVID shots for healthcare workers
As of 2025, 10 states still require all healthcare workers to get the COVID-19 vaccine, according to World Population Review. Those states are California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico, New York and Rhode Island. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in May announced it would limit approvals for updated COVID-19 vaccines to people with one or more health conditions that put them at high risk for the virus and people over 65.
However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as of Aug. 7, still recommends that all adults age 64 or under get at least one dose of the 2024-2025 season COVID-19 booster. In February, President Donald Trump issued an executive order ending federal funding for schools that continued to mandate COVID-19 vaccines for students. At the time, 15 colleges and universities still mandated the vaccine.
However, due to loopholes in the order, some programs within higher education have continued to mandate the shots for students studying to be healthcare practitioners — from dental hygienists to doctors — in part because the executive order didn’t provide specific guidance on health sciences programs, whose rules sometimes differ from the universities’ general rules…..”

Well, I just checked the dogs at the NE Nebraska shelter (located in Norfolk) – the only small dogs are very old, which would mean vet bills…..some interesting young retriever/lab crosses but they are really big dogs. I originally got Shelby from the Columbus shelter…..maybe I’ll check there, or in Yankton, SD.
