Rhode Island State Animal: Rhode Island Red

From: chickensandmore.com:

Rhode Island Reds are one of my favorite chickens. They have bags of character, personality and a real zest for life. As a homestead bird they are one of the best breeds out there in my opinion. They are healthy, resilient and will lay plenty of eggs for you. They can be pushy and assertive with other breeds, but they certainly do not lack personality! These chickens have only been around for about 100 years but they have gathered a firm following, read on to find out why…

The Rhode Island Red is a very useful, delightful and entertaining bird to have in your flock. She does not need much care other than the basics of food, water and shelter. They are hardy chickens that are not prone to disease, which makes them ideal for beginners. They have become one of the staple birds of the modern homesteader as they have been proven over the years to be a reliable, no-nonsense breed.

With the Rhode Island Red there are two strains: the production and heritage strain. Heritage varieties do not put out quite as many eggs each year but they will lay for a longer period of years. If you want more eggs, choose a production Red as they are prolific in the egg production area. This hen makes a great starter chicken for anyone because of the ease of care and low maintenance. They are also pretty kid friendly (with the exception of the roosters).

Their body is somewhat rectangular and solid looking. Rhode Island Reds are well proportioned, with a head held high and the tail at a 45-degree angle. Their feathers are tight which means they sit together compactly – a trait of the Malay breed used to create this breed. What surprises a lot of people is the fact that Reds can have either a single or rose comb. The single comb is upright with well-defined points, and the rose comb has a rear facing leader spike. Wattles and ear lobes are red (like their comb), eyes are orange/red in color and the beak is a horn color. Their skin, shanks and feet are yellow.

Size and Weight

Reds are considered to be standard sized birds.

Hens will be around 6.5lb with roosters being around 8.5lb.

The bantam variety weighs in at 2.1lb and 1.9lb respectively.

Color Varieties

The primary color of the feathers is a beautiful shiny chestnut red. Occasional black feathers can be found in the tail and wings – this is called ‘smutty’ by judges and points will be taken from the overall score of a competition bird.

These chickens enjoy being active, and are usually the first out of the coop to see what is going on and if there are any treats available! They are intensely curious and always want to help you out or see what is in it for them.  Often, they can be found foraging and can obtain a good amount of their daily nutrition by foraging. They are not flighty or nervous birds and are generally considered bombproof, rarely getting flustered or panicked.

Personality

To sum up their personality in one word: exuberant! Rhode Island Reds love to investigate new things and are inquisitive to the point of being nosey. They are friendly hens and fairly docile with other birds of a similar disposition – however they are usually mid to higher level in the pecking order. This means that with very shy or docile breeds (such as Cochins or Polish) they can turn mean and unpleasant, so be careful if you are mixing breeds. As for the Roosters, they have a bit of a reputation for being obnoxious. Small children should not be allowed near them especially in the breeding season. Hens are not known for broodiness but occasionally one will surprise you and become broody. Once they have decided to be broody, they are usually good sitters and good mothers.

  1. Good morning, Pat and Filly,

Do either of you have chickens?

I love the red auburn color of Rhode Island Reds – because I love red hair, glorious red, orange and golden autumn leaves, fresh glossy reddish brown pine straw in my garden beds!

We are having typical Summer weather still – hot, humid, thunderstorms building up during the day. Quite a light show every day on windy.com radar! I’ve had the AC people out twice this week. Even broken down, the house is tolerable – with 10 foot ceilings and ceiling fans – only got up to 81 on the hottest days. Good insulation, too, I guess.

I’m making progress in the yard. It’s looking neater in the front. Hope to finish weeding the bed and put down some pretty pine straw this morning.

Not much progress in the house, but I did make a nice meal of baked salmon, potatoes and broccoli – because I have resolved to eat healthier. Salmon always makes me feel happier.

Those peach bars I made that were too bread-y, are good warmed up and eaten hot. I bought some more peaches which, when they ripen, I’ll put on top the warm bars and top with whipped cream – yum! :8-)

Hope you two fierce truth warriors have a great day! What kind of mischief or ambitious projects are you going to accomplish today?

    1. Morning GA!
no, I don’t have chickens…the coyotes and foxes would camp out all day for those…LOL
Down on the macadam road closer to town, there’s a house with chickens, turkeys, and guinea hens. They own a small diner in the next town over–so they have fresh eggs and poultry for that.
the older man who used to live down on the dirt road years ago had peacocks–in large cages–and they scream. it was unsettling when we fist heard them but he warned us it would sound like that…lol.
he used to sell the feathers they molted to a woman in NY who made hats.
I am trying to finish some fall crafting projects so I can mail them to my daughter who will take them to a few shops in her area.
      Stay cool!
      it’s only 50* this morning!

    2. Good morning, GA! I have my echo cardiogram today and I have to pick up a new mailbox, post and cement to install it since I have to move mine to the other side of the road. I am the only one on this road with my box on this side of the road and TPTB in DC decided it was inefficient and unsafe for the carrier….smh. Thankfully, my GS is coming tomorrow to take care of that for me, as well as mow. Now I can tell that arrogant jackass Zeb that I don’t need his services this week. What a pleasure that will be! We’re having a stretch of cooler days, which is pleasant, but it will heat up again for the “dog days of August.” We’ve been lucky here with little stormy weather to speak of.

My sister raises several different kinds of chickens for showing at the county/state fairs and for the eggs but IDK what kinds she has….I am within the city limits so farm animals wouldn’t be allowed even if I wanted to have chickens.

      1. Glad you can zap Zeb out of your life!

How are you feeling? Did you get the swelling issues resolved?

We know you are a swell gal – but we don’t want you swollen!

        1. Unfortunately, I can’t zap him permanently – just for this mowing….unless I can find a used mower. The swelling issue is weird – I almost posted a picture yesterday – my left leg has only minimal swelling around the ankle, whereas my right leg is badly swollen almost to my waist. The difference was really dramatic….but I have no clue what it means…..

          Liked by 1 person

        2. I just took a picture – the difference isn’t quite as dramatic today but it is clear that the right leg is more swollen. Yesterday, you couldn’t see the delineation of my left ankle but today you can so there is some improvement. I started taking an OTC diuretic on Wednesday – wonder if that is making a difference!!!

              1. Almost normal, yeah….I have to think the diuretic has something to do with it. The top of my left foot is still swollen and sore but the swelling in the ankle is definitely much less.

chilly 50* out there this morning! the hummers were cussing at me this morning…lol

I guess I didn’t get the feeders out early enough. The “general”, the one who sits on the railing and guards the feeders, sat on the feeder as I was hanging it on the hook…lol

    1. Good morning, Pat! 62 here this morning & humid – Wheezer was back to sleeping on the original chair this morning – go figure! I’ll be off here early, since I have to hit the shower by 8:30 to leave by 9:30. I’m supposed to be at the hospital half an hour early, at 10:30. Busy day – after that, grocery shopping @ WM and a trip to Menards to get the new mailbox items. I also want to stop by a shop in Norfolk that advertises used riding mowers to see what they’ve got. So I’ll be gone much of the day. Cross your fingers that the echo comes out good!

    1. SCARY: Tulsi Gabbard CONFIRMS That ‘Operation Mockingbird’ is STILL Ongoing inside the CIA and she is actively trying to Shut it Down.

Tulsi says Deep State intel agents are still actively colluding with left-wing media outlets to attack President Trump from within:

“There are people in the intelligence community who believe their will is more important than the will of the American people.”

“They weaponize intelligence by leaking it to their friends in the media with the intent of undermining President Trump’s agenda.”

Operation Mockingbird was a covert CIA program aimed at influencing U.S. media to shape public opinion. Declassified in 1977 through FOIA requests and detailed in a congressional report, it involved infiltrating newsrooms, planting stories, and recruiting journalists—some knowingly, others not—at major outlets like The New York Times, Time, and CBS.

  5. Just The News: “President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an executive order that solidifies the new reciprocal tariff rates for over 70 U.S. trading partners, which were largely expected to go into effect on Friday.

The new tariff rates include the lowered numbers that the United States agreed to in recent trade deals, including the 15% tariffs on imported goods from South Korea and the European Union and the 10% tariffs on the United Kingdom.

Trump also raised tariffs on Canada from 25% in April to 35% in the new order. Canada has maintained that trade negotiations with the U.S. are still ongoing, but the White House said the country has “failed to cooperate in curbing the ongoing flood of fentanyl and other illicit drugs, and it has retaliated against the United States.”

Other notable tariff rates include: 10% for Brazil, 15% for Afghanistan, Iceland and Israel, 30% for South Africa, 39% for Switzerland and 20% for Taiwan and Vietnam.

The new executive order also pushes the date for the new tariffs to Aug. 7.”

  6. “Guard The Truth”

    Newsletter | July 31, 2025

“New evidence of the criminal actions taken by Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to destroy Donald Trump and his first administration is released almost daily. Unraveling the full truth about Russiagate and holding the conspirators accountable to the American people is the task at hand.

As years of darkness and deception turn into bright lights and facts, it’s worth stepping back for a second to get the full picture. What we see is the most destructive conspiracy – the worst ever perpetrated in American history – and how it has endangered the Republic and its citizens.

Let’s start with national security. In December 2016, one month before he left office, Barack Obama sanctioned Russia for interfering in the election that put Trump in the White House. Obama’s purpose wasn’t to punish the Russians but rather to corroborate the lie manufactured by his administration that Moscow had helped Trump win. It’s worth asking, what if Russia had retaliated as Obama likely intended?

In addition to the fake collusion narrative that the new White House had to deal with, the Trump administration might have been taking office with a major international crisis on its hands, simply because of Obama’s decision to turn the resources of the U.S. government on a domestic rival.

And there’s the media. Even among independent and conservative journalists, there’s something of a misunderstanding about the role our once independent press played. Media companies like the New York Times, Washington Post, and CNN didn’t get the story wrong, nor were they fooled by Obama and his aides. Rather, they were a crucial part of the anti-Trump campaign.

It was these once respected outfits that offered their platforms to the conspirators, through which they pushed a regular diet of unlawful leaks of classified intelligence, propaganda, and lies. The media was an accomplice to the crime spree of never-before-seen proportions.

In retrospect, we now see that it was with Russiagate where the media first broke faith with the U.S. public, and a long trail of narratives ensued devised to ensnare Americans in a web of lies — including the COVID panic, the 2020 election procedures that facilitated election fraud, and January 6. At this point, any Americans gathering their information and insight from a media thus compromised, risk the fate of their families and communities.

Perhaps most significantly, there’s the loss of trust in government institutions, especially those dealing with intelligence and law enforcement. After all, senior officials like the directors of the CIA, FBI, and DNI turned the tactics normally reserved for hostile actors against our own government. Instead of destabilizing a foreign adversary with American blood on its hands, like the Islamic Republic of Iran, Obama aides destabilized the administration of the American president.

And it is because of the rolling coup targeting Trump, the Obama faction made Americans vulnerable to adversarial regimes. In time it’s likely we’ll have more insight into how our traditional allies viewed the dynamic, with the former president leading a shadow network to topple his successor’s government. It’s enough for now that Trump’s cabinet has its work cut out restoring the faith of the American electorate.

Finally, we’re getting to the truth of Russiagate — but we need to keep in mind the conspirators won’t go easily. They spent all of Trump’s first term destabilizing our country and they’re likely to do virtually anything to save their own skins, no matter what it means for America. There is no room or time for complacency. Be prepared as we keep fighting for the truth.”

  7. “One in Four Hospitalized Medicare Patients ‘Harmed’ in Hospital: But hospitals do a poor job of recognizing, tracking, and fixing problems.”

    Sharyl Attkisson, Jul 31, 2025

    • 25% of hospitalized Medicare patients suffered harm in hospital
    • 43% of those cases were preventable

Teaching hospitals “missed” cases of harm at a far greater rate than other hospitals

In a telling revelation about the state of patient safety in U.S. hospitals, a new report from the Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General (OIG) has uncovered startling proof that hospitals failed to document nearly half of all “patient harm events” suffered by Medicare patients.

The report highlights how this oversight stems from inconsistent interpretations as to what constitutes “harm,” and leaves hospitals without crucial dat to prevent future incidents. It also arguably gives them plausible deniability when they don’t fix their issues.

OIG defined patient harm as any undesirable clinical outcome—not caused by underlying disease—that was the result of medical care or that occurred in a health care setting, including the failure to provide needed care. This could include cases of botched surgery, adverse events from medicine, patient given the wrong information or dose, misdiagnoses, hospital-acquired infections, and more.

The new analysis draws from a sample of 299 “harm events” documented in an earlier OIG study. That study, published in October of 2018, found that one in four hospitalized Medicare patients suffered harm, with 43% of those cases preventable. The new OIG report says there’s been progress but persistent gaps remain.

The OIG’s investigation involved surveying 154 hospitals about 266 of the events referred to in 2019. It revealed that hospital staff often overlooked harms because they viewed them as routine complications or side effects of treatment (46% of missed cases), or because hospital policies didn’t require reporting unless the outcome was severe, like serious injury or death (16%).

Other reasons why harm went unaddressed included difficulty distinguishing harm from a patient’s underlying condition (20%) or events occurring after the patient was discharged from the hospital and there wasn’t appropriate follow-up (4%). Notably, surgery- and procedure-related harms were missed at a higher rate (73%) than other categories like medication errors or infections (54%), potentially because these are seen as inherent risks.

Teaching hospitals, which handle more complex cases, fared worse than other hospitals, missing a startling 62% of harm events compared to 46% in non-teaching facilities.

Another shortfall was revealed in processes even when harms were captured. Only a fraction (about 35%) were actually investigated. This low follow-through, the report argues, creates a “knowledge gap” that perpetuates harm, with some serious cases involving permanent injury or death going unaddressed.

Looking ahead, the OIG is calling for stronger federal leadership to standardize harm definitions and create a comprehensive “taxonomy” of patient harm events, involving agencies like the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) alongside “industry partners.”

The OIG says this would help hospitals capture a broader range of incidents, from common preventable errors to rare severe ones. Meantime, without better tracking and accountability, the cycle of avoidable harm in America’s hospitals could continue, affecting vulnerable Medicare beneficiaries and beyond. 8. Just The News: “The U.S. citizenship exam is set for a major revamp, with plans to roll out a tougher version, echoing reforms from President Donald Trump’s first administration. Joseph Edlow, the new head of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), has criticized the current test—where applicants must correctly answer only six out of ten civics questions from a set of 100 which are pre-provided—as overly simplistic, encouraging memorization over meaningful education of American values.

The proposed changes could reinstate a more demanding format, possibly requiring 12 correct answers out of 20 questions, as briefly trialed in 2020. This move has ignited controversy, with opponents warning that it may hinder immigrants, especially those with limited English skills, while proponents argue it fosters a deeper understanding of U.S. governance, history and its values.

Immigrant advocates fear that the revised test could unfairly impact groups like refugees, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. A 2022 pilot program that tested a multiple-choice format and added an English-speaking component, where applicants described images, was abandoned in December 2024 after over 1,300 public comments flagged concerns about increased complexity and barriers for those with lower literacy. For now, the 2008 test version persists, but the drive for a more rigorous exam reflects stricter immigration policy changes under the Trump administration.

Stricter scrutiny of H1-B visa process, standards

The H-1B visa program will also be getting the MAGA makeover treatment. Edlow announced plans in July to overhaul the program, prioritizing companies that offer higher wages to foreign workers, and deterring the practice of utilizing foreign workers for cheap labor.

Edlow, in an interview with The New York Times, said the proposed changes aim to ensure the program supplements, rather than supplants, U.S. workers, addressing criticism from some Republicans that it undercuts American jobs.

The reforms would shift from the current lottery system, which issues 85,000 visas annually, to a weighted selection process that favors higher-paid, highly-skilled professionals.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) submitted a proposed rule, titled “Weighted Selection Process for Registrants and Petitioners Seeking to File Cap-Subject H-1B Petitions,” to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review, though specific details of the rule remain undisclosed.

    Strange bedfellows: Sanders and Trump

The proposed changes have sparked debate, with tech industry leaders like Elon Musk, who, during Trump’s transition period in December, defending the H-1B program, now supporting the notion that it needs reform. When Musk took the defensive stance in December, Sen. Bernie Sanders, D-Vt., opposed him on it, arguing the program needs reform, which inconveniently now puts him on the same side as Trump. Other staunch defenders of the program argue it is essential for filling talent gaps, while critics, including Vice President JD Vance, argue that it enables companies to replace American workers with lower-paid foreign labor.

Edlow emphasized that immigration should advance national economic interests, stating, “I think it absolutely should be a net positive.”

The reforms require approval through the federal rulemaking process, potentially facing resistance from businesses reliant on the program. Critics, including former Biden official Doug Rand, question the legality of prioritizing high-wage earners, arguing it deviates from the program’s original purpose of hiring skilled international graduates.

Although no lawsuits have been announced, immigration advocates will likely turn to the courts, where, at least at the District Court level, anything can happen.”

  9. Just The News: “Mike Donilon, an advisor and long-time ally of former President Joe Biden, reportedly told congressional investigators on Thursday that he was promised $8 million if the former president was reelected last year.

The revelation occurred during a closed-door meeting with investigators who were helping with the House Oversight Committee’s probe into Biden’s mental decline and an alleged White House plot to cover it up.

Donilon was among a handful of former Biden aides to speak to Congress, though several invoked their Fifth Amendment rights. The former Biden aide told investigators that he was paid $4 million for his work on Biden’s 2024 re-election campaign, and would have received another $4 million if Biden had won, a source familiar with the interview told Fox News

Donilon stated that he did not know what Biden used an autopen for, which Republicans believe was used to sign controversial pardons and executive orders toward the end of Biden’s presidency, and did not remember knowing about the tool. The former aide also told investigators that although Biden aged in his presidency, he believed the former president was the “best person to lead the country.”

“I was with President Joe Biden from his first day in office to the last day. What I saw, day in and day out, was a leader who was deeply engaged and in command on critical issues, both at home and abroad,” Donilon said in his opening statement.

“Every president ages over the four years of a presidency and President Biden did as well, but he also continued to grow stronger and wiser as a leader as a result of being tested by some of the most difficult challenges any president has ever faced,” he continued. “I thought that experience was enormously valuable for the nation. I believed that President Biden was the best person to lead the country on the day he took the oath of office and I continued to believe that was true every day he served as president.”

Donilon also said he believed the country overreacted to Biden’s debate performance last year, which ultimately led to his withdrawal from the Democratic race. Former Vice President Kamala Harris became the nominee instead.”

  10. Just The News: “The State Department on Thursday sanctioned the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Palestinian Authority (PA) over allegations that it continues to support “terrorism,” and denied visas to the U.S. for its members.

The action comes as some of the U.S.’s strongest allies are attempting to recognize a Palestinian state as part of a so-called two-state solution, Israel and Palestine. The recognition is expected to occur at the United Nations’ General Assembly in New York City in September, but it is not clear if Palestinian officials can now attend the session.

The State Department claimed that both organizations are not in “compliance with their commitments under the PLO Commitments Compliance Act of 1989 and the Middle East Peace Commitments Act of 2002.” The Palestinian Authority is the government body that controls portions of the West Bank and other Palestinian regions.

The department claimed some of the issues include “taking actions to internationalize its conflict with Israel, such as through the International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice, continuing to support terrorism, including incitement and glorification of violence (especially in textbooks), and providing payments and benefits in support of terrorism to Palestinian terrorists and their families.”

“It is in our national security interests to impose consequences and hold the PLO and PA accountable for not complying with their commitments and undermining the prospects for peace,” the department said.

The move also comes the same day President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is in Israel to inspect the Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s efforts to deliver humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip.”

  11. Yep, Washington state is royally fucked up!!!!

Just The News: “Seattle City Attorney Ann Davison filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, challenging two executive orders regarding gender ideology and DEI policies. The two Trump-issued executive orders are EO No. 14168, “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government,” and EO No. 14173, “Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity.”

The first order limits the federal government’s recognition to two sexes based on male and female biology and halts federal funding used to promote gender ideology. The other executive order directs federal agencies to eliminate DEI-related positions, initiatives and funding.

“Seattle recognizes what diversity, equity, and inclusion actually mean: that giving every person a fair shot improves outcomes and a level playing field is one of the most basic principles of a strong and just America,” Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell said in a news release.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in the Western District of Washington on Thursday. The court is being asked to declare the executive order unlawful and unconstitutional, as well as prevent the Trump administration from implementing the order against Seattle.

“Federal law is not made by one person’s edicts, but by the legislative branch, and it is interpreted and applied by the judicial branch,” Davison said. “These are coercive attempts at control by threatening federal funds and linking them to projects and initiatives that are entirely unrelated.”

Last month, Harrell and Seattle City Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck announced a proposal to raise the business and occupation tax threshold exemption from the current $100,000 to $2 million in gross revenue in preparation for loss of federal funding for human services. This legislation is expected to raise $90 million.

Seattle has issued two lawsuits against the Trump administration since he first returned to office. This includes a lawsuit challenging threats to cities with sanctuary policies, and a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security over stalled counterterrorism funding. An injunction was granted in the first lawsuit in April. The Department of Homeland Security released a portion, $103,757, of the counterterrorism funds owed to Seattle in June.”

  12. “According to CNBC, a dangerous challenge spreading on TikTok and other social media platforms has car owners and police departments on alert across the country — challenging young teens to steal certain cars off the street using a USB cord.

The target? Certain makes and models of 2010-2021 Kia and Hyundai vehicles that use a mechanical key, not a key fob and push-button to start the car. Investigators tell CNBC the trend started last year and the number of cars being stolen is continuing to surge across the country.

In St. Petersburg, Florida, police reported more than a third of all car thefts there since mid-July are linked to the TikTok challenge. Los Angeles officials say the viral trend has led to an 85% increase in car theft of Hyundais and Kias compared with last year.

The story is the same in Chicago, according to Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart. “In our jurisdiction alone, thefts of certain models are up over 800% in the last month,” he said. “We see no end in sight.”

  13. “The average sinking rate across the city is between 0.4 to 5.9 inches annually. This rapid subsidence has resulted in nearly half of Jakarta being submerged under the sea level, posing a significant threat to its future. The primary culprit behind this sinking is the excessive extraction of groundwater.

The Indonesian capital of Jakarta is home to 10 million people but it is also one of the fastest-sinking cities in the world. If this goes unchecked, parts of the megacity could be entirely submerged by 2050, say researchers. Is it too late? It sits on swampy land, the Java Sea lapping against it, and 13 rivers running through it. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that flooding is frequent in Jakarta and, according to experts, it is getting worse. But it’s not just about freak floods, this massive city is literally disappearing into the ground.

I guess everybody who owns their own home or a business here is kinda totally fucked. The BBC did a pretty good report on this here.”

  15. Donald J. Trump

    @realDonaldTrump

I was just informed that our Country’s “Jobs Numbers” are being produced by a Biden Appointee, Dr. Erika McEntarfer, the Commissioner of Labor Statistics, who faked the Jobs Numbers before the Election to try and boost Kamala’s chances of Victory. This is the same Bureau of Labor Statistics that overstated the Jobs Growth in March 2024 by approximately 818,000 and, then again, right before the 2024 Presidential Election, in August and September, by 112,000. These were Records — No one can be that wrong? We need accurate Jobs Numbers. I have directed my Team to fire this Biden Political Appointee, IMMEDIATELY. She will be replaced with someone much more competent and qualified. Important numbers like this must be fair and accurate, they can’t be manipulated for political purposes. McEntarfer said there were only 73,000 Jobs added (a shock!) but, more importantly, that a major mistake was made by them, 258,000 Jobs downward, in the prior two months. Similar things happened in the first part of the year, always to the negative. The Economy is BOOMING under “TRUMP” despite a Fed that also plays games, this time with Interest Rates, where they lowered them twice, and substantially, just before the Presidential Election, I assume in the hopes of getting “Kamala” elected – How did that work out? Jerome “Too Late” Powell should also be put “out to pasture.” Thank you for your attention to this matter!

  16. Whew! What a day! I knew I should have accepted the offer of a wheelchair at the hospital…but nooooo, I had to walk. My legs hurt sooooo bad right now but the cold compresses I just applied are helping. Not sure if M told you, but it is a no on the congestive heart failure; may be leaky valves in my leg veins that aren’t opening/closing properly – we’ll see what my doctor says.

I used the cart at WM – touchy buggers but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. Then it was off to Menards to check into the new mailbox. I ended up just buying a metal mailbox post and a cheap mailbox. I’m going to have Gage look at my current mailbox and see if he can figure it out – if he can and we can just move that one, I will return the items I bought from Menards. It was just too complicated to try to go the other route and by then, my legs hurt so bad, I just wanted to get home.

And what did I find when I did get home??? Asswipe Zeb here mowing, doing his usual half-ass job. I immediately went over to him and said I expected to talk to him later in the day, as we had agreed, and told him that since my GS was coming up to take care of the mailbox, he would take care of the mowing this week. He promptly went off on a rant that we have to stick with the schedule, “I’m trying to run a business here.” I tried to explain this was a one-time deal and he kept ranting and raving; of course it escalated from there….he said he would expect a check for $150 (today’s mowing and the missing check). So I said fine, then finish and do it right for a change – you haven’t done the weed eating you agreed to do and there was a huge patch in my front yard (where the marker flags were) that he hadn’t touched. I told him just move the damned flag, mow, then put it back and he claimed that was against federal law.

Needless to say, it didn’t end well – I told him fine, then finish the job today and we’ll be done. He called when he was done instead of just ringing the doorbell and I went outside with the check – that was when I noticed the section in the front yard. And then he REALLY pissed me off by saying that “…if this check bounces, I WILL see you in court!” I said “It’s not going to bounce motherfucker, fuck you,” and flipped him the bird!

All in all, quite a consequential day, don’t you think???? SMDH – so I called the bank to see about cancelling payment – my friend there, Eric, who has some legal experience, talked it out with me and agreed that since Zeb was supposedly trying to run a legitimate business, it was unlikely he would go ahead and cash the missing check if it showed up and it would be difficult for someone else to cash it. As he said, it’s probably sitting in the dead letter file at the PO. So I’m going to leave it as is and see what happens. He did tell me that Bomgaars is having a clearance on new riding lawn mowers – he just got one for $1200. I guess I’m just going to have to bite the bullet and go into debt to get one somehow.

    1. I did read that at Marica’s…GREAT news! what can they do about leaky valves??

yeah I wouldn’t want that asswipe working on my yard anymore either.

if you need help, let me know.

      1. I don’t know what can be done – haven’t looked up anything on that yet and I’ll find out at my next appointment what the doc has to say about it.

      2. Just did a search – I’ve already got the compression stockings but they are a little TOO tight, and I keep my feet/legs elevated on the chair all day while I’m on the blogs. When I’m in my recliner, I have placed a pillow on the footrest and put my feet up on that. I can always tell the difference – as soon as I got home after all my running around, I put on the cold water compresses, put them up on the chair, and they immediately stopped hurting. The right is still much more fluid-filled than the left – maybe the valves are worse in that leg.

        1. Ooops – forgot to include the search result – Rodney has told me about elevating them above my heart but that’s really awkward:

          Leaky Leg Vein Treatment

Minimally invasive treatments are commonly recommended for leaky valves in leg veins, including sclerotherapy, radiofrequency ablation, endovenous laser ablation, and mechanochemical ablation. These procedures are typically performed without general anesthesia and involve minimal downtime. Additionally, compression stockings and leg elevation can help manage symptoms by reducing pressure in the veins and preventing fluid from leaking into soft tissue.

          • Sclerotherapy: A solution is injected into the affected veins, causing them to scar and close, redirecting blood flow to healthier veins.
          • Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA): A laser is used to heat and close the problematic veins, improving blood flow and reducing symptoms.
          • Radiofrequency ablation (RFA): Similar to EVLA, this procedure uses heat from radiofrequency energy to close the affected veins.
          • Compression therapy: Compression stockings apply pressure to the legs, helping to improve circulation and reduce swelling.
          • Elevation: Elevating the legs above the heart can help relieve pain and reduce swelling associated with leaky valves.

  20. Just The News: “Four people were killed on Friday in a shooting at a bar in Anaconda, Montana, authorities claimed, and the suspect is still believed to be armed, the Associated Press reported.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms confirmed that multiple people were shot at a local business, and authorities are still searching for the suspect. However, local law enforcement said his home was cleared by the SWAT team. It is not clear whether other people were injured.

Authorities have not disclosed what led to the shooting so far, or how many people were involved. The FBI is assisting in the response to the shooting, but local law enforcement is leading the investigation.

  21. “The Contemptible Jeb Boasberg: Rebukes by the Supreme Court and DC appellate court are not stopping Boasberg’s quest to punish the Trump administration for alleged contempt. Now he’s the target of complaints of misconduct.”

    Julie Kelly, Aug 01, 2025

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Jeb Boasberg is not giving up. Undeterred by recent smackdowns by the Supreme Court and the D.C. appellate court, Boasberg, the Obama-appointed chief judge of the D.C. district court, is preparing to mete out some sort of punishment against the Trump administration for allegedly defying one of his court orders back in March.

During a hearing last week in the ACLU’s lawsuit related to the Alien Enemies Act, President Trump’s signature deportation policy that ordered the immediate removal of illegal Venezuelans tied to Tren de Aragua, Boasberg expressed frustration that his colleagues on the D.C. appellate court are dragging out a hold on Boasberg’s contempt findings; in April, Boasberg determined “probable cause exists to find the Government in criminal contempt” for allegedly ignoring what he describes as an “oral command” to return planes already out of U.S. airspace carrying AEA subjects on the evening of March 15.

“The Constitution does not tolerate willful disobedience of judicial orders—especially by officials of a coordinate branch who have sworn an oath to uphold it,” Boasberg lectured in his 46-page order. (As I wrote here, it appears Boasberg set the contempt trap from the start.)

But a three-judge panel of the D.C. appellate court quickly halted his contempt proceedings—and Boasberg is not happy. “As everyone knows, the proceedings here have been moving, or to be more accurate, right now not moving (emphasis added) on two separate tracks, the contempt track and the merits track,” an exasperated Boasberg said on July 24. He further noted that “such a lengthy stay has been frustrating to plaintiffs,” referring to the ACLU.

Sensing the appellate court ultimately will overturn his contempt order—a smart prediction given the Supreme Court overturned his underlying order related to the contempt allegations in addition to the silliness of his findings—Boasberg nonetheless warned the Department of Justice he is considering other options. “[Whether] or not I am ultimately permitted to go forward with the contempt proceedings, I will certainly be assessing whether government counsel’s conduct and veracity to the Court warrant a referral to state bars or our grievance committee which determines lawyers’ fitness to practice in our court,” Boasberg said. (Even more outrageously, Boasberg claimed recent unsubstantiated accusations made by a disgruntled DOJ prosecutor involved in the case and fired earlier this year for insubordination “strengthened” his contempt determination.)

His threat represents yet another escalation in Boasberg’s unhinged effort to retaliate against the president and his administration for criticizing his conduct in the case. On March 18, Trump in a Truth Social post denounced Boasberg as a “radical left lunatic of a judge” who should be impeached; a handful of Republicans have since joined the president’s call to remove him from the bench.Need a Mirror, Judge Boasberg?

Boasberg knows he’s not going anywhere anytime soon but complaints against him are piling up. Earlier this week, Chad Mizelle, chief of staff to Attorney General Pamela Bondi, filed a misconduct complaint against Boasberg for “making improper public comments about President Donald J. Trump” during a judicial conference just days before Boasberg took up the ACLU case in Washington.

The complaint primarily stems from recent reporting by Margot Cleveland at The Federalist, which had obtained a summary of the conference attended by federal judges and Chief Justice John Roberts in the nation’s capital. The summary indicated Boasberg asked Roberts to address his “colleagues’ concerns that the Administration would disregard rulings of federal courts leading to a constitutional crisis.”

Mizelle also slammed Boasberg over his handling of the ACLU lawsuit. “Throughout the proceedings, Judge Boasberg rushed the government through complex litigation, sometimes giving the Trump Administration less than 48 hours to respond and threatening criminal-contempt proceedings and the appointment of an outside prosecutor against senior Trump Administration officials for failing to comply with an order that had already been vacated.”

The DOJ is asking the chief judge of the D.C. Circuit, fellow Obama appointee Sri Srinivasan, to investigate Boasberg’s “willful misconduct” and reassign the entire case to another judge. (Boasberg also attended Trump’s 2023 arraignment in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s January 6 indictment against the president.)

The same appellate panel also wants to hear from the DOJ and the ACLU in response to allegations Boasberg violated a local court rule by immediately conferring “pseudonym status” to the five illegals in the deportation case. According to an emergency motion filed in April by a Connecticut man who is not a party in the lawsuit, Boasberg did not separately issue an order to seal the names of the plaintiffs—required in the D.C. circuit—he simply approved a motion for the lawsuit to proceed “pseudonymously.”

Boasberg at the time appeared to have known what was required but instead chose to flout the rules: “Given the expedited nature of this matter, it determines that a full Opinion is not practical at this time. Believing that Plaintiffs have made the required showing on the relevant factors, the Court ORDERS that…They shall be permitted to proceed pseudonymously unless and until the assigned judge determines otherwise,” he said in a minute order posted the morning of March 15.

Since then, Boasberg has not issued a full opinion stating his reasons for doing so. (Every ACLU lawsuit on the Alien Enemies Act uses initials rather than names.)

The three judge panel—Trump appointees Greg Katsas and Neomi Rao and Obama appointee Cornelia Pillard—overseeing Boasberg’s contempt order has set a September 5 deadline for both sides to reply to the unsealing motion.

In the meantime, the president’s Alien Enemies Act policy is in limbo awaiting a decision by the Fifth Circuit appellate court as to the lawfulness of the proclamation. (Oral arguments were held on June 30.)

If the appellate court, and the Supreme Court, ultimately decide the courts have no role in the execution of the AEA—which several judges including Boasberg have already acknowledged—then what? How can the president get back months of stonewalling, threats, and overall bad behavior by judges in the matter?

Who will pay the price for such brazen contempt for the president and his policies?”
