Mrs. Doubtfire

Today would have been Robin Williams’ birthday.  He was born in 1951 and passed away in 2014.  One of my favorite Robin Williams’ movies was Mrs. Doubtfire. This article is from Mental Floss:

From Mental Floss:

After voice-over actor Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) gets divorced and loses custody of his three children, he resorts to dressing up and speaking like a matronly grandmother to get hired as his kids’ nanny. Here are some facts about Mrs. Doubtfire, which was released on this day in 1993.

1. IT’S BASED ON A BRITISH NOVEL.

During the mid-1970s, author Anne Fine walked by a “bric-a-brac” shop selling jewelry and old furs, never having the time to walk inside and meet the store’s proprietor, one Madame Doubtfire. Fine remembered the name in 1986 when she wrote her book Madame Doubtfire. Fine said her one request to the filmmakers was that they “not make the children bratty, and they did indulge me in that.”

2. BLAKE LIVELY BLEW HER AUDITION TO PLAY NATALIE.

It came down to the future Gossip Girl star and Mara Wilson. To calm his daughter, Lively’s father told the then five-year-old Blake that she would be reading with Robin Williams’s twin brother at her final audition, not the movie star himself. That plan failed when someone in the room introduced Williams as Robin. Lively described the experience as “horrible.”

3. THEY WENT THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHS OF OLD WOMEN.

Director Chris Columbus claimed that he and his fellow filmmakers looked through “hundreds and hundreds” of photographs until finding a 1940s-era English woman to base Mrs. Doubtfire’s look on.

4. IT TOOK FOUR AND A HALF HOURS TO APPLY MRS. DOUBTFIRE’S MAKEUP.

Makeup artist Ve Neill did the honors. Neill—alongside Greg Cannom and Yolanda Toussieng—won the Oscar for Best Makeup, just like she did for Beetlejuice and Ed Wood. The wig was created by Toussieng, the hairstylist who created Edward Scissorhands’s hair.

5. WILLIAMS WENT TO A SAN FRANCISCO SEX SHOP IN THE MRS. DOUBTFIRE COSTUME.

The shop employee was about to sell a sex toy to him when he realized the true identity of the customer.

6. IT WAS SHOT ENTIRELY IN SAN FRANCISCO.

That includes the five large sets built in a 100,000-square-foot building in the Richmond district. It used to be a candy warehouse. After Williams’s passing, fans of the actor left flowers, photographs, and letters at the Pacific Heights house that doubled as the Hillards’ home. The plastic surgeon who lives there didn’t mind. In the original script, Mrs. Doubtfire was set in Chicago.

7. CHUCK JONES SUPERVISED THE OPENING ANIMATION.

Jones was the iconic animator of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons for Warner Bros. The full five minutes of Pudgy Parakeet and Grunge the Cat was released as a DVD feature.

8. COLUMBUS USED MULTIPLE CAMERAS SIMULTANEOUSLY TO CAPTURE THE CAST WHEN WILLIAMS IMPROVISED.

The director mostly shot one or two takes of each scene as it was written in the script before shooting something Williams made up. Columbus said the resulting footage gave him the option of cutting a PG, PG-13, R, or NC-17 version of the movie. (He ended up going with the PG-13 version.)

9. WILLIAMS DIDN’T KNOW THE BARBRA STREISAND LYRICS.

Harvey Fierstein (Frank) and Scott Capurro (Jack) taught Williams “Don’t Rain On My Parade.”

10. WILLIAMS TRIED TO BREAK PIERCE BROSNAN’S CONCENTRATION.

While Brosnan (Stu) was attempting to choke on the shrimp, Williams kept making suggestive comments to make his task much more difficult.

11. SALLY FIELD AND MARA WILSON ALSO WENT OFF SCRIPT.

When Field inadvertently gave herself a cappuccino mustache, it was added to the movie. Wilson ad-libbed her princess line.

12. LYDIA WAS EXPELLED FROM HER SCHOOL FOR WORKING ON THE MOVIE.

Lisa Jakub was kicked out of her Toronto school for taking the five-month-long gig. When Williams found out, he wrote a letter to the school asking them to reconsider. School officials framed his letter, but didn’t change their mind about Jakub.

13. A LENGTHY SUBPLOT INVOLVING THE NEIGHBOR GLORIA WAS CUT.

Scenes were filmed where Daniel got even with Gloria for telling Mrs. Doubtfire nasty rumors about him by telling her to use dog urine to make her garden beautiful, which ultimately kills her flowers. Gloria is only in two scenes in the final version.

14. THE HILLARDS ALMOST GOT BACK TOGETHER.

Screenwriter Randi Mayem Singer left the movie when 20th Century Fox wanted her to change the ending so that Daniel and Miranda get back together. After the studio and Columbus read the new, happier ending in Leslie Dixon’s revised script, they asked Singer to come back and change the ending back to the two remaining divorced.

15. TALK OF A SEQUEL BEGAN IN 2001.

In 2014, Williams had given Elf screenwriter David Berenbaum the go-ahead to work on a second draft of the sequel, which was cancelled following Williams’s passing.

16. BUT A MUSICAL MIGHT STILL BE COMING.

In early 2015, Alan Menken announced that he was in the early stages of working on a musical adaptation of the movie. In May 2016, however, he told Digital Spy that the project had stalled out a bit. “Mrs. Doubtfire went through a change of lyricist, and then also a dramaturgical evolution,” he said. “At the moment, the best thing I could say is that it’s on a creative hiatus.” At this point, only time will tell if and when it happens.

WILMINGTON, DE — As part of a wide-ranging sit-down interview released on YouTube, Hunter Biden warned Americans that, without illegal immigrants, the price of crack cocaine and prostitutes would skyrocket.

In an urgent plea to the American people, Biden told the public that President Donald Trump’s hardline immigration policies threatened not only to affect various industries across the country but also drive the cost of hard drugs and sex slaves through the roof.

“These essential products will become totally unaffordable to the average American,” Biden said. “I think the people of this country need to realize what’s at stake here. This isn’t just about immigration. Who do you think cleans your hotel rooms? Who cuts your grass? Who picks the crops that put food on your table? Who smuggles in the crack that gives you a good time on the weekends? These are real questions, man, and they’re not solved by rounding up hardworking drug runners and shipping them out of the country.”

Biden confided that, in addition to worrying about what is happening to immigrant families being separated due to deportations, he was concerned about the going rate of his crack. “It’s messing everything up, bro,” he explained. “I used to be able to pick up a couple of Ukrainian hookers and a bag of Ready Rock that would last all weekend. Now? My regular hits of Casper the Ghost are costing me three times as much, and it’s still climbing. What Trump’s doing to this country isn’t right, man.”

At publishing time, Biden had also sounded the alarm that the Trump administration’s trade tariffs would likely cause a massive increase in the cost of importing high-end Eastern European escorts.

  2. “To Secure Funding For Stadium, Washington Commanders Change Name To ‘Washington Bloodthirsty Injuns’”

Image for article: To Secure Funding For Stadium, Washington Commanders Change Name To 'Washington Bloodthirsty Injuns'

LANDOVER, MD — As part of a deal for the construction of a new stadium, the Washington Commanders, formerly the Washington Redskins, have agreed to change their name to the Washington Bloodthirsty Injuns.

“The winds have changed. Woke is out. Classic racial stereotypes are back in,” said Adam Peters, the team’s general manager. “Therefore, we have agreed, in exchange for support from the federal government, to change our name to the Washington Bloodthirsty Injuns as a way of honoring the noble bloodthirsty injuns of our nation’s history.”

“WOOOOOOOOO!” Cried thousands of ecstatic fans. “Go Bloodthirsty Injuns!”

Critics say the name change is insensitive, hearkening back to a time when bloodthirsty injuns were cruelly slandered by settlers as “bloodthirsty” and “injun.”

“Me no likeum this name,” said local tribal representative Chief Sitting Woodchuck. “I take many paleface scalps now.”

The team has dismissed the concerns. “Changing the team name doesn’t just secure additional funding for the project, it also promises to improve fan engagement,” said a spokesperson for the Bloodthirsty Injuns. “The Commanders was such a generic-sounding name. We think people are really going to feel a connection to the Bloodthirsty Injuns.”

At publishing time, the recent success of the Washington Bloodthirsty Injuns inspired the Cleveland Guardians to change their team name to the Cleveland Savages.

  3. Well, I did a bit of research – I’m guessing that the swelling in my legs/feet is due to pulmonary edema (since I also have some pain in my ribs/lungs), which is often a result of not enough oxygen so…..I am going back on the oxygen 24/7 to see if that makes a difference. I expect the VA will probably want to put me on Lasix, which I am going to refuse for the time being due to the possible serious side effects….I’ll give the oxygen time to work first, as well as trying other natural solutions from the link Jam provided earlier. Forewarned is forearmed and I’m not going to allow them to bully me into pharmaceuticals!

  4. Just The News: “President Donald Trump’s administration has struck a deal with the United Arab Emirates to stop the forced deportation of several Afghan interpreters and soldiers who assisted the U.S. military before they could be handed over to the Taliban this month, and is now beginning the process of vetting them for long-term and safe homes, officials told Just the News on Monday.

The extraordinary intervention by Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles came after Just the News highlighted the plight of the Afghan allies of the U.S. military in a story Sunday and Trump put out a statement on social media declaring “I will try to save them, starting right now.”

The rushed effort was the latest effort by the Trump administration to resolve issues still looming from Joe Biden’s disastrous 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan that left American and allies in peril. UAE had been hosting the Afghan military refugee for four years but had begun discussing a forced repatriation back to the Taliban, officials said.

Wiles and Rubio began working on the matter Saturday when reports surfaced that the Afghan interpreters and soldiers were in danger of being forcibly deported to the Taliban, and Trump asked Vance to take lead on Sunday, officials told Just the News.

Within hours, the team had secured an agreement with the UAE to keep the Afghan allies safely in the emirates until the State Department could vet them for possible entry to the United States or another Western safe haven, officials said.

“At the President’s direction, the Vice President and other members of the administration worked with the government of the UAE to ensure these individuals could stay for a period in the UAE,” a senior White House official told Just the News.

“We’ll work with the UAE and others to thoroughly vet these translators and find them a long-term home. We’re very grateful to the UAE for their continued friendship, and for their quick attention to this matter,” the official added.

According to first-hand accounts of some in the Afghan allies group, UAE officials came without warning to deliver bad news last week the ere to be deported, sowing panic among the group of thirty-two Afghan men, women and children who were staying in the refugee camp in Abu Dhabi, where they have effectively been held for the past four years.

UAE security guards forced refugees to leave their homes and prepare to be sent back to Afghanistan.

A report had just been published in The Telegraph detailing the murder of some two hundred Afghan soldiers and police officers who were hunted down by the Taliban regime after a data leak in the UK.

The victims were people who helped the U.S. oust the Taliban and defeat the al Qaeda terrorists responsible for the deaths of almost 3,000 Americans on Sept. 11, 2001. Biden’s administration promised they would not be left behind to die.

“The Secretary of State is personally committed to keeping our promises to those who stood by us in Afghanistan and to relocating them safely,” they were told in writing by the Biden State Department.

The refugees in UAE followed the legal process and the instructions of representatives of the U.S. State Department but now they face a terrifying future.

On Wednesday, members of the group said their passports were taken by the officials running the camp, a sprawling complex that was once filled with over a thousand refugees just like them.

Over the years, that number had dwindled. Some went to the U.S., others to Canada, Australia and elsewhere. The Trump administration’s intervention now has restored hopes to the remaining group’s members.”

  5. CBS: “A new report alleges that soil samples following the 2023 fiery train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio were manipulated by the EPA and Norfolk Southern.

The whistleblower group Government Accountability Project uncovered a letter they say allegedly proves negligence in testing for contaminated soil at the site of the crash. According to the document, Norfolk Southern’s contractor published a plan, but the Environmental Protection Agency then updated that plan the next day, directing that additional samples be taken in more heavily impacted locations.

This letter goes hand in hand with two other whistleblowers whose claims say that environmental testing wasn’t conducted properly.

According to the whistleblowers, the key flaw was that baseline samples were inappropriately collected based on likely wind directions near the time of the burn of chemicals like vinyl chloride and butyl acrylate. They say this compromised the entire sampling plan.

Those whistleblowers also believe that officials who tested intentionally avoided testing in areas to show dioxin contamination. East Palestine and Norfolk Southern previously agreed to a $22 million settlement earlier this year. It’s unknown if anything will come from the alleged claims of wrong soil sampling.”

  6. “Lawsuit Against HHS, RFK Jr. Seeks to Add COVID Vaccines to Injury Compensation Program — Paul Brundage says he developed a serious blood-clotting disorder after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, but can’t pursue compensation under the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program because HHS failed in its legal obligation to add the shot to the list of vaccines covered under the program.”

    by Michael Nevradakis, Ph.D., July 21, 2025

EXCERPT: “The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services violated federal law by failing to add the COVID-19 vaccine to the list of vaccines covered under the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP), according to a lawsuit filed by a man diagnosed with a severe blood-clotting disorder he alleges was caused by the vaccine.

Paul Brundage filed the lawsuit in January against then-U.S. Health Secretary Xavier Beccera. However, Becerra’s successor, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., became the target of the suit when he was confirmed in February.

The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986, also known as the “Vaccine Act,” requires HHS to add vaccines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for routine use in children or pregnant women to the Vaccine Injury Table within two years of the CDC’s recommendation.

According to the complaint, the two-year period has elapsed, and Brundage “should now be eligible to bring a claim for compensation for his injury in the United States Court of Federal Claims” under the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP). However, Brundage is “not able to pursue compensation under the VICP” because HHS has not added the COVID-19 vaccine to the Vaccine Injury Table, the lawsuit states.

Under the Vaccine Act’s Citizen’s Action provision, citizens may pursue civil action against the HHS secretary “where there is alleged a failure of the Secretary to perform any act or duty” contained within the Vaccine Act. The provision requires claimants to provide 60 days’ notice to the secretary, which the lawsuit states Brundage did in November 2024.

“The beauty of this provision is that it empowers the average citizen to ask a judge to force the HHS Secretary to take action,” said Ray Flores, senior outside counsel for Children’s Health Defense (CHD) and an expert on vaccine injury compensation cases. “It even provides for attorney fees.”

Flores said Brundage’s lawsuit is not the first or the only pending citizen’s action against the HHS. In May, Flores sued Kennedy for violating the 1986 Vaccine Act, which requires HHS to establish a task force dedicated to making childhood vaccines safer and to provide U.S. Congress with progress reports every two years.

Since Congress passed the act over 35 years ago, no health secretary — including Kennedy — has convened such a task force or reported to Congress on steps taken toward making vaccines safer. CHD is funding the lawsuit.

HHS must ‘do right by the people seriously injured’ by COVID vaccine

Attorney Altom Maglio of the District of Columbia law firm mctlaw, who represents Brundage, said he is “stumped as to why HHS has not added the COVID vaccine to the Vaccine Injury Table. … [HHS] seems to have no real argument as to why the Secretary has failed to do so.”

“The goal of this lawsuit is to have the United States do right by the people seriously injured by adverse reactions to the COVID vaccine,” Maglio said…..”
