National Pennsylvania Day!

I found an article on thefamilyvacationguide.com website detailing some fun facts about Pennsylvania.

Ketchup Fun Facts

In 1876, ketchup was revamped in Pittsburgh by Henry Heinz. Heinz had a goal in mind, which included creating ketchup without preservatives, unlike his competitors. Therefore, he opted to use simply vinegar. The ketchup was made with tomatoes and spices while keeping a certain quality standard.

Chocolate Fun Facts

Another food favorite is chocolate. The town of Hershey in Pennsylvania is not surprisingly the chocolate capital of the United States. Based on the name alone, you can see why, but the man behind the famous chocolate bar formulated a new version of milk chocolate.

By 1903, Milton Hershey started building the world’s largest chocolate manufacturing plant. A couple of years later, construction ended. From there on, chocolate became available to the masses through quick and efficient production.

Hershey’s milk chocolate became a popular choice right away. With significant success, Hershey became nationally marketed. In addition, milk is also the state beverage.

Aside from the classic staples, there are other famous Philadelphia food items, including:

Soft pretzels

Cheesesteak sandwiches

Hoagies

Strombolis

Italian water ice, similar to snow cones

Irish potato candy

TastyKakes

Traditionally, there are also many Pennsylvania Dutch food items, including the following:

Chicken pot pie

Ham pot pie

Bologna

Raised doughnuts, also known as Fasnacht

Schnitz un knepp, which are dried apples, dumplings, and ham

Shoofly pie

Soda Fun Facts

A weird but fun fact belongs to a town in Pennsylvania, Hazelton. Drinking carbonated beverages is prohibited in school auditoriums. It’s a state law, and the rule applies to everyone, including teachers!

Fun Facts About the Crayola Experience

Speaking of exploring, you can also visit the Crayola Experience in Easton. The Crayola Experience has around 30 attractions, art, and activities.

Aside from the Crayola Experience, the actual Crayola factory is in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. The brand started in 1885, although the company’s name was Binney & Smith. In 1903, the name changed to Crayola and quickly started manufacturing high-quality crayons.

The original box contained eight colors, and now more than a hundred years later, you can buy the original box and dozens more. So the classic company sure has evolved throughout the years!

The factory produces over three billion crayons each year, and over 90% of all Crayola crayons come from the Lehigh Valley factory.

Zoo Fun Facts

The Philadelphia Zoo was the first zoo in America which started in 1874. Benjamin Franklin founded the zoo, home to the first chimpanzee and orangutan births in the United States. It was also the first zoo to create an animal care center with formulated food specifically for zoo animals.

Now, the zoo is home to over 1,700 endangered zoo animals. In addition, the zoo includes award-winning programs, education, and animal exhibits. The zoo is complete with treetop trails and is a great place to explore with great views and scenery.

Fun Facts About Local Activities

For more adventure, the state has many fun-filled spots, such as Splash Lagoon, the largest indoor waterpark on the country’s eastern side. Other sites include:

Sandcastle Waterpark

Great Wolf Lodge

Wildwater Kingdom

Hershey Park

Camel Beach

Dutch Wonderland

There are dozens of amusement parks the whole family can enjoy.

Fun Facts About Christmas Trees

Another fun fact is that Indiana, Pennsylvania is home to the Christmas tree capital in America and the world. The nickname started in 1956 due to 700,000 freshly cut trees. Four years later, the same town harvested around a million trees.

As more people opted for artificial Christmas trees throughout the years, the numbers declined. However, the state is still one of the top Christmas tree farm states.

Groundhog’s Day Fun Facts

Another holiday tradition in Pennsylvania is Groundhog’s Day. A day of celebration since 1880. People from all over the nation await Punxsutawney Phil’s forecast. The town is known as the world’s weather capital. Millions look forward to seeing the groundhog’s shadow due to the grueling winter months.

  1. Good morning, Pat, Filly and all!

Today in N FL and S GA, no rain is expected – just heat and humidity – temp 98 – heat index of 107.

However, we still have the hot months of August and September to go, before hurricane season cools down the deep South.

The record temp in our area ranges a good bit from 104-105ºF – but the highest temp ever in FL was 109ºF recorded June 29, 1931 in Monticello, FL, a town in N Central FL.

    1. Aw, jeez! This is why I do NOT like the southern states! The humidity is bad enough here in NE as it is! When I went to Ocala to move the horses, the daily rain and constant dampness was beyond irritating and I couldn’t wait to get back to VA. Admittedly, it isn’t the greatest there either but waaaay better than the deep south!!! Stay cool and hydrated, sweet GA!

  2. Morning All!
I feel like crap this morning. hubby woke me a little before midnight. his hand was under my pillow tapping out morse code (at least that’s how it felt.) no matter how many times i grabbed his hand and held it for a while, it still found it’s way under my pillow, tapping away. then he started talking…the only thing i could make out was “…don’t know where they are…”
I finally fell asleep after 3 and then he got up to go to the bathroom and woke me up all over again…sigh.
I will probably fall asleep sometime this afternoon.

    1. Wow! I can only imagine his dreams….does he ever remember them??? Oh, and good morning! Yeah, I see some naps in your future!

Well, the O2 @ night made a difference in the swelling in my feet – almost none when I got up this morning but it didn’t take long after I got up for some to show up; and when I press on the top of my feet, there is some pain soooo…..we’ll see what they find on Wednesday. Hopefully, no clots….🤞🤞🤞😟😟

nope…he never remembers. if you ask him, he doesn’t even think he dreams mostly.
I think i told the story (from when we lived in the old house) of waking up in the middle of the night and his hand was covering my face–that he did remember because i yelled. I asked him what are you doing? he said palming a basketball. lol
do you still manage to put your feet up several times a day even for a short while? you’re more active now so maybe you’re just on your feet too much?
fingers crossed for a clean bill of health Wednesday!

          1. I have vivid, in color dreams and most of them i remember.
i remember sharing my dreams about my sister after she passed. she was wheelchair bound for many years before she passed. after she passed, i dreamt of her running in the grass and she was laughing and happy. i always woke up with a smile on my face too. then after my brother-in-law passed, I never had another dream of her till this day.

    MUST READ

It was exposed this week in @propublica that China has a back door access to every single US Federal agency and all cybersecurity systems at the Pentagon and our intel agencies thanks to a contract that Barack Hussein Obama signed with @Microsoft and personally gave approval for in 2016 to implement a program called Microsoft Government Azure across all USGOV agencies.

However, the Pro-Publica report, while helpful, only scratched the surface of this issue and left out A LOT of key details, including failing to give a stage for the Navy Whistleblower who I have been in touch with.

The Microsoft Government Azure program outsources its tech support to Chinese foreign nationals, which means Chinese nationals and the CCP are getting direct access to all classified information across our Government and have direct access to DOD @DeptofDefense cyber security infrastructure.

All classified information that is transmitted over US government cyber systems is being intercepted by the CCP, and it’s been happening for 10 years.

The Navy Whistleblower who exposed this has been in communication with me while working to expose this crisis behind the scenes with @propublica, and he will be going public for the first time ever tonight on my @rumblevideo show in an exclusive interview to discuss how he discovered this system and why nobody has done anything to address this national security nightmare over the last 10 years while the Microsoft program has existed.

Find out who in our government sat on this espionage for years while this brave whistleblower was sounding the alarm behind the scenes.

My 2 hour interview with the Whistleblower will be EXPLOSIVE, heads will roll, and it will have massive national security implications.

Navy @USNavy Whistleblower and CEO of Next Defense Tom Schiller joins me on @LoomerUnleashed tonight at 6:00 pm EST for this shocking, and exclusive interview that you don’t want to miss. Tune in!

Taking out the trash…The truth is that when Big Bird became a child predator, it became time to defund PBS. This week Congress did the right thing. They deserves our gratitude for defunding PBS. It is past time to eliminate such rubbish from the airwaves.

  7. Just The News: “Congress has passed legislation to help veterans avoid foreclosure after the Department of Veterans Affairs ended a mortgage relief program in May without a permanent replacement.

The VA Home Loan Program Reform Act, which passed the Senate last week and awaits President Donald Trump’s signature, creates a five-year partial claims program for delinquent borrowers with VA-backed loans. It lets the VA buy a portion of a loan in default, allowing veterans to catch up on payments without immediately losing their homes.

The move comes after the VA ended the Veterans Affairs Servicing Purchase (VASP) program on May 1, leaving tens of thousands of veterans at risk of foreclosure. VASP had helped about 33,000 borrowers stay in their homes by offering new low-interest loans directly from the VA.

“This bipartisan and bicameral legislation will assist veterans who are facing financial hardships and provide VA with a tool to better help veterans stay in their homes and avoid foreclosure,” a joint statement from the House and Senate Committees on Veterans’ Affairs said.

The measure grants the VA the power to “pay the holder of a loan guaranteed by the VA an amount necessary to avoid the foreclosure of the loan,” provided that legal documents are executed to give the VA a secured interest in the property, according to a bill summary on Congress.gov. Borrowers would repay the VA later when refinancing, selling, or paying off the home.

The Mortgage Bankers Association praised the bill’s passage. “MBA applauds the Senate for taking swift bipartisan action to support veterans at risk of foreclosure by passing the VA Home Loan Program Reform Act,” MBA President Bob Broeksmit said in a statement. “This important legislation… is a critical step forward in ensuring that distressed veteran homeowners have access to a proven and sustainable loss mitigation solution.”

The National Association of Realtors also expressed support for the proposal. “We are grateful to the House of Representatives and the Senate for passing this measure and providing veterans and active-duty service members the same advantages as other buyers in a competitive real estate market,” Shannon McGahn, NAR’s EVP and Chief Advocacy Officer, said in a statement.

As of April 1, about 75,000 veteran borrowers had missed three or more payments on their VA-backed loans. Of those, 33,000 were already in foreclosure, NPR reports.

Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Wis., a retired Navy SEAL and lead sponsor of the bill, criticized the Biden administration for creating VASP unilaterally. “Under the Biden administration, the VA created the VASP program without consulting Congress, costing the American taxpayers $5.8 billion and endangering the entire VA home loan guarantee program,” his statement said. “My bill offers a real solution to help every servicemember and veteran maintain the American Dream of homeownership.”

With interest rates around 7%, many veterans who defaulted on their mortgages have been left with few realistic options, according to Mortgage Point. After VASP ended, loan modifications often meant higher monthly payments, and some lenders advised veterans to sell or face foreclosure. The partial claims program is designed to offer a more viable alternative, the report said.

The VA has not yet said when it will launch the new program or whether it will ask mortgage servicers to pause foreclosures in the meantime. “We appreciate Congress’s work on the VA Home Loan Program Reform Act, which VA will implement once President Trump signs it into law,” VA press secretary Pete Kasperowicz told reporters.”

  8. Just The News: “In a stunning shift, officials in the United Arab Emirates who have given refuge to Afghan allies of the United States for more than four years appear to have made a deal to turn them over to the Taliban.

President Donald Trump now has in his hands the fate of these Afghans, who were stranded and abandoned by President Joe Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

According to first-hand accounts of some in the group, UAE officials came without warning to deliver the news, sowing panic among the group of thirty-two Afghan men, women and children who were staying in the refugee camp in Abu Dhabi, where they have effectively been held for the past four years.

“They took my son, they took my son.” Those were the only words I could make out amidst the screaming and tears when the voice message came to me halfway across the world in the dead of night on Friday. UAE security guards forced refugees to leave their homes and prepare to be sent back to Afghanistan.

A report had just been published in The Telegraph detailing the murder of some two hundred Afghan soldiers and police officers who were hunted down by the Taliban regime after a data leak in the UK. The victims were people who helped the U.S. oust the Taliban and defeat the al Qaeda terrorists responsible for the deaths of almost 3,000 Americans on Sept. 11, 2001. Biden’s administration promised they would not be left behind to die.

“The Secretary of State is personally committed to keeping our promises to those who stood by us in Afghanistan and to relocating them safely,” they were told in writing by the Biden State Department.

The refugees in UAE followed the legal process and the instructions of representatives of the U.S. State Department but now they face a terrifying future. On Wednesday, members of the group said their passports were taken by the officials running the camp, a sprawling complex that was once filled with over a thousand refugees just like them.

Over the years, that number had dwindled. Some went to the U.S., others to Canada, Australia and elsewhere. The Tahiri family of 11 that I helped get there, who I have known for over twenty years, had been fully processed and vetted, security screening completed without issue and the final step. The medical screening was also completed.

I remember their excitement and relief back in July 2023 when they called me to tell me they had been told to get ready to fly to the United States. They were prepared to go anywhere to survive and had never turned down any offers but the U.S. had always been their first choice. After losing everything, they believed they would finally be safe.

Only that never happened. They waited and waited. Then two years later, the day after they were forced to surrender their passports to camp officials, they said they were ordered to come to the hall. And when the camp’s director entered he was surrounded by Taliban officials, including the Taliban “ambassador” to the UAE. Members of the group said they were told “things would be easier for them in Kabul” if they chose to “self-deport”.

Their fate at this moment remains uncertain. Various U.S. officials have been reaching out to counterparts in the UAE to understand what happened and try to pause the deportations. While many Americans have understandably moved on, these Afghan allies have not had that choice. Their country has not known a moment of freedom, and their enemies are more powerful than ever.

Afghan women who served in their Special Operations Forces are among those facing deportation now at a second camp. Their fate should they be returned is one many would consider worse than death.”

  10. Just The News: “President Donald Trump says that if the violent Immigration and Customs Enforcement riots happening across the country are discovered to have central organizers or professional backing he would designate them foreign or domestic terror organizations, similar to what he did with Mexican cartels in February.

“I would do that, and in a minute,” Trump told Just the News, No Noise television show Wednesday.  I would do that.”

Officially designating an organization as a terrorist group in the U.S. criminalizes providing material support, freezes assets, and restricts travel for members and supporters under laws such as the PATRIOT Act.

The designation also allows for enhanced law enforcement surveillance, investigations, and federal resource deployment while signaling a security threat domestically and internationally. However, it can also polarize public opinion and, for foreign groups, may lead to global sanctions, though domestic designations are rare due to free speech concerns.

In June, Just The News reported that the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), a self-described Communist revolutionary group with ties to a China-linked Marxist funding network, has been leading nationwide protests against the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement crackdowns on illegal immigration, including demonstrations in Los Angeles that escalated into riots.

The PSL, which openly advocates for the overthrow of the American system and supports Communist regimes, has organized anti-ICE protests in such U.S. cities as Chicago, San Francisco and Austin, Texas, while also promoting a “Don’t Open for ICE” campaign.

Trump deployed the Marines and California National Guard from Camp Pendleton to help local law enforcement to restore order earlier this summer in Los Angeles, where PSL-organized protests turned chaotic. The group condemned the Guard presence as an attempt to suppress First Amendment rights, urging continued protests against what it calls Trump’s “war on immigrants.”

Trump, who often speaks about his support for law and order, signaled that he was affected by the violence happening against ICE officers trying to do their jobs and carry out lawful deportation orders. “I watched last week as they were throwing rocks at brand-new cars – Border Patrol. And I saw that, and I gave them total authorization to stop their car and do whatever is necessary to arrest those people. Use whatever you have to use to arrest them,” he recently said.

PSL’s activities are reportedly financially supported by Neville Roy Singham, a Marxist businessman who funds far-left groups like the People’s Forum, which shares close ties with PSL. The group has been linked to pro-Communist causes, celebrating regimes like those in China and Cuba while defending Palestinian-affiliated Hamas’ October 2023 attacks on Israel. PSL’s “Liberation School” promotes Marxist ideology, and its merchandise glorifies Communist figures and revolutions.

Despite denying ties to a recent Washington, D.C., shooting by a former associate, PSL’s revolutionary rhetoric and Singham’s funding network have drawn scrutiny for their connections to global Marxist movements.

In another instance of communist connections, Just The News reported that Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, a former leader of the Venceremos Brigade (VB), a pro-Communist Cuba group tied to Cuban intelligence and linked to violent groups like the Weather Underground, has deep historical ties to far-left activism, having traveled to Cuba multiple times in the 1970s as part of the brigade. U.S. intelligence agencies have described the VB as a Cuban intelligence operation aimed at recruiting politically oriented Americans to influence U.S. government positions.

The VB, which Bass described as an “educational project” to foster ties with Cuban society, is now fiscally sponsored by Singham’s The People’s Forum.

Trump concluded by extending unlimited permission to his border czar and said, “I called Tom Homan, and I authorized him to do whatever he has to do.”

    1. LOL – do you have topping on yours? I went to FD and the grocery store – put the cherry filling on my cheesecake but I’ve got some fresh fruit I’m gonna eat first. They had some over-ripe peaches that I cleaned and cut up for smoothies, and one was perfect for eating now. They also had some seedless watermelons and some slightly green bananas, so I restocked those as well. Watermelon is next on the menu!

It is getting easier by the day to get up into my truck, thankfully. No doubt eating again has a LOT to do with that. My legs and feet were swollen and sore by the time I got home, of course, so they are once again wrapped with the damp cotton dish cloths and the ace bandages. That will take the swelling down quickly and they already hurt less.

  14. “Flynn Knew the Entire Time”

    Clandestine, Jul 20, 2025

“Flashback to 2014: Obama fired DIA Director Mike Flynn. Why? Because Flynn was not willing to play ball with Obama’s cronies.

Jump to 2017: Comey FBI frames Flynn just 4 days after inauguration, forcing Flynn out as Trump’s NatSec Advisor.

Why were they so afraid of Flynn? Because Flynn knew where the bodies were buried. He knew their secrets. He knew the crimes they committed. He knew what they were planning. Flynn was a loose end, and thus a serious threat to Obama and the Deep State agenda.

This is why Obama encouraged Trump not to hire Flynn during the transition. This is why they went after Flynn first thing after Trump was inaugurated. Obama and his intelligence heads DESPERATELY did not want Flynn telling Trump all that he knew, and they did not want Flynn helping Trump’s administration.

The shadow war has been going on since before Trump came down the escalator. The men sitting next to Flynn were engaged in TREASON, and Flynn knew it the whole time.”

  15. “100 or so people crossed the bridge from the Ohio side with the intent of blocking traffic to protest ICE agents and other law enforcement personnel doing their jobs. The protestors were met with force by nearly 50 officers from the Covington, Kentucky side.

Police arrested 15 people during the protest, including two journalists, after police said they had refused to comply with orders to disperse.

Covington police said in a statement that officers who initially attempted to talk with the protest’s organizer were threatened and met with hostility. ‘While the department supports the public’s right to peaceful assembly and expression, threatening officers and blocking critical infrastructure, such as a major bridge, presents a danger to all involved,’ the police said.

Among the charges filed against those arrested were rioting, failing to disperse, obstructing emergency responders, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

WTF is wrong with these people? Do they really hate the President so much that they’re willing to risk their lives to prove their hatred? Childish at best.”

Sure, every once in a blue moon, you’d see a beach umbrella go flying by in the wind, but so what? If the wind is blowing that hard that it uproots a planted umbrella and sends it skirting down the beach, why are you still on the beach ferfucksakes?  Eric Houghtaling, a Monmouth County Democrat, wrote a bill that would require beach umbrellas to be secured to the sand with an attachment that bores down into the sand, with tie-down straps or by using sandbags.

I pushed him up above me and I grabbed him and climbed on the dock as quick as I could and started doing chest compressions before other people started running over.

Witnesses say the boy, an unidentified 11-year-old, had been under water between 4-6 minutes and his lips were blue by the time Gauge got him out. It was only after the teen rescued him and began chest compressions that other bystanders came over to take over performing CPR.

The Everett Fire Department reported that the young boy is recovering thanks to the quick action of Gauge. They released a statement saying,

The Everett Fire Department recognizes the courageous actions of the 13-year-old teen for his bravery, which undoubtedly played a vital role in saving the child’s life.

The quick actions of bystanders also played a crucial role in saving the child’s life. This incident underscores the importance of having CPR training, as it can make a significant difference in critical situations and help ensure the safety of our community, especially around water.

Gauge says that he does not know who the boy was, but would like to have the chance to meet him once he recovers.

  22. Just The News: “President Donald Trump on Sunday called on the Washington Commanders owners to return to their Redskins name and floated linking the change to the new stadium deal. The team recently announced a new stadium to be built on the shuttered RFK Stadium site.

“The Washington ‘Whatever’s’ should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team. There is a big clamoring for this. Likewise, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, with a storied past. Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen,” Trump wrote on Sunday on Truth Social.

“Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!” he added.

In April, the owner of the team, Josh Harris, said the Redskins name would not come back with the new stadium. Trump signaled on Sunday that the stadium deal could be tied to the team name.

“I may put a restriction on them that if they don’t change the name back to the original ‘Washington Redskins,’ and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, ‘Washington Commanders,’ I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington,” he wrote. “The Team would be much more valuable, and the Deal would be more exciting for everyone,” he added.

Trump called for the Cleveland Guardians to do the same. “The Owner of the Cleveland Baseball Team, Matt Dolan, who is very political, has lost three Elections in a row because of that ridiculous name change. What he doesn’t understand is that if he changed the name back to the Cleveland Indians, he might actually win an Election,” Trump wrote. “Indians are being treated very unfairly. MAKE INDIANS GREAT AGAIN (MIGA).”
