American Curl Cat

From: SPRUCEPETS.COM:

Thanks to their fluffy, curled-back ears, American Curls are one of the most easily identifiable cat breeds today. As their coats can come in a wide variety of colors and patterns, and their hair can be either short or long, it’s the unique ears of American Curls that make them stand out among other cat breeds. Today, their backwards-curled ears are a desirable trait among breeders, but they were originally the product of a natural (and harmless) genetic mutation first identified in the United States during the 1980s.

But it’s not only their curled ears that make these cats so special. Sometimes nicknamed the “Peter Pan cat,” these felines retain kitten-like natures into adulthood, and love to play, investigate, climb, and keep a close eye on their owners. They are very affectionate and easily accept children and other pets, making them an ideal family cat.

American Curl Characteristics

American Curls are friendly, affectionate, and active cats that are often said to have a somewhat “doglike” attachment to their owners. They like to gently poke and prod their humans with their paws and will often follow their favorite family members from room to room around the house. They are exceptionally intelligent cats as well. Some have been known to figure out how to flick light switches on and off, and many learn how to open and close doors and cupboards.

They typically retain a kitten-like playfulness throughout their entire lives and love to play with toys, climb and explore furniture and cat trees, investigate anything new brought into the home, and even play fetch. However, once playtime is over, your American Curl is likely to cuddle up on your lap, give you some affectionate head bumps, and spend some time in peaceful companionship.

It’s important to note, however, that American Curls don’t like to be left alone for too long—so you might have to consider whether your schedule can accommodate several hours of attention and playtime each day.

These friendly felines aren’t too large when fully grown, although they are somewhat muscular for their small-to-medium size. They generally reach maturity by one to two years of age. American Curls aren’t especially talkative cats, tending towards quiet trills rather than loud meows. A sociable cat, most American Curls take readily to children and other pets in the home, especially if they offer extra opportunities for play and fun.

Appearance

Surprisingly, American Curls are not born with their most distinctive feature. Kittens are born with typical straight ears. However, within the first couple of days, the ears roll up into tight little buds. At around six weeks of age, the kitten’s ears slowly begin to unfurl, reaching full curvature by the time the kitten is four months old. The breed standards call for an ear curl that is between 90 and 180 degrees at full maturity.

American Curls are not especially large cats, with males being no more than 10 pounds and females less than 8 pounds as adults. They are a moderately muscled cat with a well-proportioned body. The coat can be long-haired or short-haired, but either way, there is not much undercoat, meaning these cats don’t shed as much as some other breeds. However, they are not hypoallergenic.

When it comes to color, anything goes. American Curls can be any color or coat pattern that occurs naturally in felines. That means your cat can be calico, solid black, red tabby, “tuxedo,” solid gray, tortoiseshell, or any other combination of colors and patterns. The same is true of eye color; if it occurs naturally in felines, it is acceptable in an American Curl.

The skin on an American Curl’s nose and paw pads should complement the color of its fur, but there is no one required color.

    1. I also developed an allergy due to dander, scratches, etc. from washing and giving meds, changing kitty pans for the generations of kitties we had when daughters were little.

But yeah the little stray gets tuna but doesn’t want to be touched which I respect.

  1. Good morning, Pat and Filly,

Weather today in N FL – triple digit 102º heat index. We are having afternoon and evening thundershowers most afternoons which cools things off. Typical Summer in the Deep South.

Back at the Village after going home for an overnight to pick up paperwork and take and pick up a load of stuff. It was great – I slept like a log in a real bed for the first time in months! Have been sleeping on two fold out foam chairs topped with a cot mattress – a bit narrow for an old lady who is overweight – not quite obese.

Starting at 6:30 am yesterday morning, I tackled my the front bed that had gotten completely overrun with nut grass and dollar weed while I was at the Village taking care of Sally Q. Man, it was fun digging and bagging all those weeds. I finished before noon – ! What a surprise! I thought it would take days.

Next, I took a shower, did errands and mailed packages, re-loaded the van and drove back to the Village. Will be busy all this week and next getting Sally’s apartment cleaned out. It’s been quite a job.

i sound like a broken record…cloudy, rainy, cool. this weather sucks.

the damned raccoon was back last night! he pooped on the doormat this time. after he chewed up the last remaining liquid bait ant trap–so of course the dang fool had diarrhea when he pooped all over the place! sigh.

the bait in the trap is scattered but mostly eaten, how he did not set off the trap is a mystery. but this is getting so tiresome as well!

Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a “cease fire” between Israel and Iran. Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned!

    FOR FILLY

    OUR PRAYER

We come to Your Altar on bended knee
In the name of Jesus – we pray to Thee
One of our loved ones is in peak peril
Demons they have her over a barrel
Another test will be taken real soon
Could sink hope or take her over the moon

By the Blood of the Lamb – we are healed
By His sacrifice – our fate – it was sealed
Protect her from all danger hurt or harm
We’re calling all Angels – set the alarm
Warring Angels by the dozens dispatched
Go after those demons – get them detached

Comfort Angels dispersed to quell the fear
Through Faith – we command fear disappear
Healing Angels anoint her with the oils
Cover her completely before she spoils
Relaying Angels with a message from God
Rest in His Arms – prepare to be awed

We take authority over our friend today
By the Power of the Spirit we humbly pray
We unite in our prayer – strengthen her
To guide those in charge of her to concur
Set all instruments so accurate they be
By the Power of the Spirit command them we

Take care in your analysis – through Hope
By your training and insight help her cope
God has given you the means to infer
A possible treatment that will deter
The failure of systems rightly attached
Your expertise surely cannot be matched

Let the Hand of God guide competent hands
To do what must be done – what He commands
As we lift her up to the Heaven on High
We give it all to You – and breathe a sigh
She is in good hands – the best there be
The Angels surround her – a sight to see

We lay our petition at the feet of Your Son
Whose victory over the cross He surely won
We know in control – You must ever be
We pray for a miracle for all to see
God can fix anything – He has the clout
The Power of God is awesome no doubt!

  6. Just The News: “A federal judge in Boston on Monday ruled that the Trump administration’s cuts to diversity-related federal grants at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) constitute discrimination on the basis of race and sexual orientation.

The NIH began canceling grants in March that it claimed were spent on projects like studies on transgender healthcare, vaccine hesitancy, and diversity research, arguing the grants no longer aligned with the agency’s priorities under Trump.

U.S. District Judge William Young ruled that the NIH violated the Constitution in its decisions to cancel the grants, and is reinstating the grants to the organizations and Democratic-led states, who sued over the terminations, per NBC News.

“This represents racial discrimination and discrimination against America’s LGBTQ community,” Young, who was appointed by former President Ronald Reagan, said. “Any discrimination by our government is so wrong that it requires the court to enjoin it and at an appropriate time, I’m going to do it.”

Young claimed that the decision to pull funding for grants related to racial diversity was “bearing down on people of color because of their color,” and that he had “never seen a record where racial discrimination was so palpable.”

The funding cuts were part of the administration’s efforts to reshape the federal government, reduce wasteful spending and end federal support for DEI programs and transgender healthcare.”

Just The News: “The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on Monday announced it was not inviting President Donald Trump to its annual convention next month because of the president’s approach to civil rights.

The move marks the first time the civil rights group has decided not to invite a sitting president to the yearly convention in its 116-year history. It comes after the NAACP filed multiple lawsuits against the Trump administration over its response to diversity, equity and inclusion policies.

During Trump’s first term in office, he received invitations to speak at their convention, but he declined.

NAACP President Derrick Johnson said that the decision was not based on the president’s political affiliation, but because he was working against the organization’s mission. “This has nothing to do with political party,” Johnson told the Associated Press. “Our mission is to advance civil rights, and the current president has made clear that his mission is to eliminate civil rights.”

The NAACP convention will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina from July 9-16.”

  8. JD Vance
    @JDVance
Look, I’m seeing this from the inside, and am admittedly biased towards our president (and my friend), but there’s a lot of crazy stuff on social media, so I wanted to address some things directly on the Iran issue:

First, POTUS has been amazingly consistent, over 10 years, that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. Over the last few months, he encouraged his foreign policy team to reach a deal with the Iranians to accomplish this goal. The president has made clear that Iran cannot have uranium enrichment. And he said repeatedly that this would happen one of two ways–the easy way or the “other” way.

Second, I’ve seen a lot of confusion over the issue of “civilian nuclear power” and “uranium enrichment.” These are distinct issues. Iran could have civilian nuclear power without enrichment, but Iran rejected that. Meanwhile, they’ve enriched uranium far above the level necessary for any civilian purpose. They’ve been found in violation of their non-proliferation obligations by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is hardly a rightwing organization.

It’s one thing to want civilian nuclear energy. It’s another thing to demand sophisticated enrichment capacity. And it’s still another to cling to enrichment while simultaneously violating basic non-proliferation obligations and enriching right to the point of weapons-grade uranium.

I have yet to see a single good argument for why Iran needed to enrich uranium well above the threshold for civilian use. I’ve yet to see a single good argument for why Iran was justified in violating its non-proliferation obligations. I’ve yet to see a single good pushback against the IAEA’s findings.

Meanwhile, the president has shown remarkable restraint in keeping our military’s focus on protecting our troops and protecting our citizens.

He may decide he needs to take further action to end Iranian enrichment. That decision ultimately belongs to the president. And of course, people are right to be worried about foreign entanglement after the last 25 years of idiotic foreign policy.

But I believe the president has earned some trust on this issue. And having seen this up close and personal, I can assure you that he is only interested in using the American military to accomplish the American people’s goals. Whatever he does, that is his focus.

She kept asking for more stories, laughing and snorting! LOL – she agreed that I should write a book – she would certainly read it! Or a podcast….yeah, right! You know how THAT went over! Really great gal and very helpful. She was born in Ca but would never ever return.

This carside pick-up @ WM is the bomb!!! You call to let them know you’re there and which spot you are in and they bring everything out and load it for you. Great service for those who are handicapped but I think it should be restricted to just that – there was a youngish woman texting on her phone while they loaded bag after bag after bag…..seems pretty lazy to me. But I will definitely be doing that again!

The oxygen in the tank was just running out as I got home – it wasn’t full in the first place. But I will definitely be using the smaller tank next time – dang, those big ones are heavy!

  13. Just The News: “Los Angeles Democratic Mayor Karen Bass on Tuesday lifted a curfew on the city’s downtown that went into effect last week over riots in the city against federal immigration raids, citing successful crime prevention and suppression efforts.

Bass imposed the curfew exactly one week ago, which began at 8 p.m. local time, and expired at 6 a.m. local time. The curfew impacted a one-square mile radius and excluded residents in the area, homeless people, credentialed media and public safety and emergency personnel.

The order lifting the curfew completely comes after Bass reduced the curfew hours by two hours on Monday after law enforcement saw a decrease in looting, violence and vandalism.

“The curfew, coupled with ongoing crime prevention efforts, have been largely successful in protecting stores, restaurants, businesses and residential communities from bad actors who do not care about the immigrant community,” Bass said. “I am lifting the curfew effective today, and as we continue quickly adapting to chaos coming from Washington, and I will be prepared to reissue a curfew if needed. My priority will continue to be ensuring safety, stability and support in the Downtown neighborhoods.”

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Chief Jim McDonnell supported Bass’ assessment that the curfew has been effective in curtailing crime in the downtown area, and that officers with the LAPD will remain in the region.”

    1. EXCERPT: “….Arnold continued saying, “I’m so, so happy to see first-hand that this IS the greatest country in the world and it IS the land of opportunity…” Schwarzenegger got applause at the end of his answer, but it was a rather tepid response. Guess that is to be expected when the leftist audience of “The View” gets smacked with a reality check from an actual legal immigrant. Then, Schwarzenegger gave his opinion on illegal immigration. He began by saying, “You’ve got to do things legal.” Since we can’t see the audience, we don’t know if, at that point, half of them got up and left. But Arnold was on a roll. He said that those entering the country illegally “were not smart,” and went on to explain, saying,

“…When you come to America, you’re a guest. And you have to behave like a guest…You have a responsibility as an immigrant to give back to America.”

Sunny Hostin is seen putting a hand on his arm like she wants to jump in, probably to remind him that he is a white male and therefore has privilege. Behar can also be heard trying to jump in, but Arnold wasn’t having it. Eventually, Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin tried squeezing some lame statistics in about how “90 percent of the people who come here are trying to do the right thing.” Hostin teed up the old, “immigrants are much less likely to commit crimes in this country than actually American-born citizens.” Goldberg also tried untruths like, “A lot of what’s happening right now is people are getting snatched, who shouldn’t be snatched out of the country.” But it was too late. In true “Terminator” fashion, Arnold had already blown up any BS bombs the gals tried to throw at him.

It’s probably a pretty good bet that no one in that audience has ever heard what a legal immigrant thinks about millions of other immigrants who broke into the country, and now expect handouts, and other kinds of rewards for having done so. Arnold Schwarzenegger may be a lot of things. Yeah, he was a RINO governor and has done some less-than-smart things in his personal life. But he can count leaving “The View” gals speechless as one of his best accomplishments in America.”

  15. “President Trump Won’t Call Tim Walz: It Would ‘Waste Time’”

Red State, By Ward Clark | 12:29 PM on June 17, 2025

    AP Photo/Alex Brandon

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Never let it be said that President Donald Trump isn’t a great judge of character. He’s also pretty blunt in voicing these assessments, and no more so than when he’s assessing a leftist nincompoop like Minnesota’s Governor, Tim “Great Walz of China.” In the aftermath of the targeted political assassination of a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband, and the attempted murder of others, along with the capture of the killer, President Trump announced that he wouldn’t be calling Governor Walz.

Why? Because it would waste time.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday ruled out calling Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz after the targeted shootings of two state lawmakers, saying that to do so would “waste time.”

One lawmaker and her husband were killed, and the second legislator and his wife sustained serious injuries in the shootings early Saturday. A suspect surrendered to police on Sunday.

The Republican president spoke to reporters early Tuesday aboard Air Force One as he flew back to Washington after abruptly leaving an international summit in Canada because of rising tensions in the Middle East between Israel and Iran. Asked if he had called Walz yet, Trump said the Democratic governor is “slick” and “whacked out” and, “I’m not calling him.”

Well, about Tim Walz being “whacked out,” it’s hard to disagree with the president’s assessment. And he had more to say on the matter:

“I don’t really call him. He’s slick — he appointed this guy to a position,” Trump said. “I think the governor of Minnesota is so whacked out. I’m not calling him. why would I call him?

“I could call him and say, ‘Hi, how you doing?’” Trump continued. “The guy doesn’t have a clue. He’s a, he’s a mess. So, you know, I could be nice and call him but why waste time?”

Trump’s mention of “this guy” being appointed to a position appeared to be a reference to Vance Boelter, the suspect who surrendered to police after a nearly two-day manhunt in Minnesota.

Now, the president will probably come in for some criticism from both sides of the aisle for this. It’s pretty traditional, after all, for a president to make a call to a governor when there has been some major event in that governor’s state, like a natural disaster or a major crime. This, a targeted political assassination, would certainly qualify as a major crime, and as far as the assassin goes, we might add that we still don’t have a really great grip on what this guy’s deal was or what tipped him over the edge.

But Tim Walz? It’s hard to see any conversation with Minnesota’s hoptoad-eyed governor as anything but a waste of time.”

  16. Just The News: “A confidential human source told FBI counter-intelligence in summer 2020 that China’s communist government was shipping fake driver’s licenses to America to manufacture “tens of thousands of fraudulent mail-in votes” for Joe Biden, according to a raw intelligence report distributed to federal agencies that was reviewed by Just the News.

The report – one of two sent Monday by FBI Director Kash Patel to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley – was sent out to U.S. intelligence agencies on Aug. 24, 2020 as an uncorroborated advisory and then suddenly recalled with little explanation other than the bureau wanted to “re-interview” the source, the documents stated.

The recall notice specifically asked spy agencies to erase or delete the original intelligence memo, the memos show. “This report was recalled in order to re-interview the source. Recipients should destroy all copies of the original report and remove the original report from all computer holdings,” the recall notice stated.

Officials told Just the News the recall kept the FBI and other agencies from fully investigating allegations that Beijing was trying to meddle in the U.S. election to Biden’s benefit, even though corroborating evidence came in from a fellow law enforcement agency. They said U.S. Customs Border and Protection had captured 19,888 of the fake driver’s licenses — mostly from Hong Kong and China in late July 2020 – on their way to battleground states in the Midwest.

The subject line of the FBI intelligence bulletin succinctly stated the potential nature of the alleged plot:

“Chinese Government Production and Export of Fraudulent US Drivers Licenses to Chinese Sympathizers in the United  States, in Order to Create Tens of Thousands of Fraudulent Mail-in Votes for US Presidential Candidate Joe Biden, in late August 2020.”

The intelligence report was not deemed corroborated, making clear it was raw intelligence and that the informant was relatively new and “has been corroborated for less than one year.” It also noted the information was “indirect” through a sub-source. “Warning: This is an information report, not finally evaluated intelligence,” the report told other agencies.

It also flagged one aspect of the informant’s allegation: that information for the fake driver’s licenses was gleaned from TikTok accounts of Americans. “A person’s address information was not a valid field when creating a TikTok account,” the report noted. “It was unspecified how China would attain US address data from the application.”

That said, the FBI bulletin provided significantly detailed information for agencies to investigate as leads to make sure America’s election wasn’t being hijacked by a foreign power seeking to exploit a sudden explosion in mail-in voting during the COVID-19 pandemic that struck earlier in 2020.

“In late August 2020, the Chinese government had produced a large amount of fraudulent United States driver’s licenses  that were secretly exported to the United,” the report stated. “The  fraudulent drivers licenses would allow tens of thousands of Chinese  students and immigrants sympathetic to the Chinese Communist Party  to vote for US Presidential Candidate USPER Joe Biden despite not being eligible to vote in the United States.

China had collected private US user data from millions of TikTok accounts, to include name, ID and address, which would allow the Chinese government to use real US persons’ information to create the fraudulent drivers  license.,” the report added. “The fraudulent driver’s licenses were to include true ID  number and true address of US citizens, making them difficult to  detect. China planned to use the fraudulent driver’s licenses to  account for tens of thousands of mail-in votes.”

After Just the News reported on the existence of the intelligence bulletin Monday evening, Sen. Grassley, R-Iowa., on Tuesday implored Patel to investigate the circumstances of the memos more intensively to determine who orders the recall and why.

“The document alleges serious national security concerns that need to be fully investigated by the FBI,” the senator’s office said in a statement. “Grassley is requesting additional documentation from the FBI to verify the production, and is urging the FBI to do its due diligence to investigate why the document was recalled, who recalled it and inform the American people of its findings.”

Patel told Just the News on Monday evening that he is fully investigating the circumstances surrounding the intelligence report and its recall.

“Thanks to the oversight work and partnership of Chairman Grassley, the FBI continues to provide unprecedented transparency at the people’s Bureau,” Patel said. “To that end, we have located documents Chairman Grassley requested, which detail alarming allegations related to the 2020 U.S. election.

“Specifically, these include allegations of plans from the CCP to manufacture fake driver’s licenses and ship them into the United States for the purpose of facilitating fraudulent mail-in ballots – allegations which, while substantiated, were abruptly recalled and never disclosed to the public,” Patel added.”
