Oklahoma State Flower: Oklahoma Rose

The Oklahoma Rose, also known as Rosa ‘Oklahoma,’ is a breathtaking dark red hybrid tea rose known for its deep, velvety petals and sweet fragrance. This remarkable flower boasts an elegant flower structure with 45 to 50 petals and an average diameter of about 5 inches, making it a standout in any garden and is also recognized as Oklahoma state flower.

Its large, high-centered, pointed buds open into stunning red rose blooms with a graceful charm. Introduced to the world as a hybrid tea rose, this variety is admired for its beauty, long stems, and ability to thrive in warm weather. With proper care, the Oklahoma Rose produces multiple flushes throughout the season, adding a timeless elegance to any garden or flower bed.

History of the Oklahoma Rose

The Oklahoma Rose was bred by Swim & Weeks and introduced in 1964. It is a cross between the hybrid tea roses ‘Chrysler Imperial’ and ‘Charles Mallerin,’ resulting in its deep red color and rich fragrance. In April 2004, the Oklahoma Rose was officially designated as the Oklahoma state flower, replacing the mistletoe.

Its selection was based on its striking beauty, historical significance, and connection to the state’s identity. Today, the Oklahoma Rose is cherished by gardeners and florists for its lush flowers and undeniable fragrance, making it a popular choice for gardens and floral arrangements alike.

Choosing the Right Oklahoma Rose

Selecting the right Oklahoma Rose plant ensures its long-term success in your garden. Look for a healthy plant with dark green, matte foliage, and a robust, upright growth habit, which indicates good health and vigor. While the most popular variety of the Oklahoma Rose is its signature dark red hue, some variations exist, offering slight differences in petal formation and fragrance intensity.

Consider the mature size of the plant when choosing a location, ensuring there is enough space for it to grow and flourish. Additionally, opt for a disease-resistant variety that suits your local climate to reduce the risk of common rose ailments. Understanding your commitment level to maintenance will also help you decide whether this stunning hybrid tea rose is the right fit for your garden.

Planting and Soil Requirements for Rosa Oklahoma

Proper planting techniques and soil conditions play a crucial role in the health and vitality of the Oklahoma Rose. These roses thrive in well-draining soil with a slightly acidic pH level between 6.0 and 6.5. Choose a planting location that receives full sunlight for at least six hours a day, as this promotes strong growth and abundant blooms. Before planting, dig a hole that is twice as wide as the root ball to allow ample room for root expansion. Incorporate organic matter such as compost or well-rotted manure to enhance soil fertility and improve drainage.

Once planted, water the rose thoroughly to help establish strong roots. Keeping the soil consistently moist, especially during the first growing season, is vital for the plant’s successful adaptation to its new environment. If planting in pots, ensure they have proper drainage to prevent root rot.

Oklahoma Roses thrive best in USDA Hardiness Zones 7-10. If you live in a colder area, consider providing winter protection or growing the rose in a container that can be moved indoors during extreme weather conditions.

Watering and Irrigation Requirements of the Oklahoma Roses

Adequate watering is essential for the health and vibrancy of the Oklahoma Rose. During the first growing season, ensure the plant receives regular and deep watering to encourage strong root development. Watering once or twice a week, depending on weather conditions, will provide the necessary moisture while preventing over-saturation.

        1. Oh, well….won’t be any physical raising hell for a good while to come, that’s for sure but otherwise…..I’ve stored it up and am loaded for bear! I am going to stop posting quite so much volume and be more selective – I don’t need to literally bring everything!

Let’s get it on! LOL – yeah, no, I’ve been kind of hustling too much already this morning, trying to get things back to my way….WTH did my Sis put that there, FFS, and where is this now??? But I have to keep stopping myself and sitting my ass down to just breath and try to relax my neck/back muscles. I keep getting all tensed up and tight and I’ve added some HEET stickers for tense muscles to my shopping list to help relax them. The icy hot ones just makes me cold. But I’ll get there…..just so happy to see all my flowers and the Orioles back!

            1. At this point, I can take it off for a little while but then I start puffing – I’m hoping as time goes by and I can eat again and get better in other ways, I can wean myself off gradually to only now and then.

              1. That’s good. My GS suggested getting a portable exchanger that you can carry in a bag on the shoulder or use at home w/o any oxygen cannisters at all. They run about $400 – I’ll mention it to Perry but I’m guessing the VA wouldn’t provide that. We’ll see what happens – first I’ll work my way towards not needing it except for now and then.

              2. hubby rents his oxygen generator and portable oxygen thing from a company. he pays $45 a month (for both) although after the first month, he never used the portable rechargeable machine. He pays $35 for the generator (which he uses at night) and $10 for the portable machine.
he never called them to pick up the portable one because the rental company is like an hour and a half away. he just pays the $10 a month.

      1. Yes!!! How are you feeling now? My son Josiah & I are Still really wiped out after his week & a half hospital stay. He hopes to return to work tomorrow & has been home for like 2 weeks now. He Also got 2 units of blood–yikes!

        1. I’m weak, of course, a little lightheaded now and then but overall, not bad at all considering the alternative! I was reading about Josiah’s situation – really glad he’s weathered this storm. You’re such a wonderful Mother!

          1. Wow, that’s sweet of you to say. He’s still really tired, sleeping multiple times a day, pale, & pretty weak. I heard you “felt like a new woman” once you got that blood & I was like Wow, that wasn’t exactly what happened with him…sigh…

Please don’t push yourself too hard getting back into the swing of things. Everyone is so glad you are home but Nobody wants you to have Any kind of relapse!

            1. I wish he could get the same result but his situation is much more serious – mine is my own danged fault! No, I’m trying not to but I have to remind myself to eat – I’m heating up some Vegetarian Veggie soup now – one of my favorites.

              2. Thanks, Val! Of course, I’ve been doing exactly that for the last half-hour. I simply had to get things back “in order” – MY order vs. my Sis’s – including re-folding all the laundry she so kindly washed for me and putting it away in the front bedroom, since my tether won’t allow me to reach MY bedroom. They just weren’t folded right, don’tchaknow?!? LOL – and I’m stressed and frustrated because I can see a finch (I think) stuck in the jelly feeder and I can’t do anything about it. Sadly, I think it’s too late and it’s dead since there is no movement…..sigh…..but it is what it is. So many other things I just can’t do, as simple as taking my full trash bag to the bin in the garage – again, my tether won’t allow me to go that far and I’m not quite courageous enough yet to try doing w/o the oxygen. But this too shall pass eventually…..

  1. Morning All!

what a day yesterday. we drove 4 hours to see Mom…spent another 4 hours with her and then drove the 4 hours home.

I do not like the room that they put her in. It’s maybe an 8 by 12 room with TWO beds in it. mom has a recliner on her half which she sleeps in–has been sleeping in her recliner at home for years. but it’s in between the beds and the lady next to her puts her feet up on the arm of mom’s chair and wakes her up at night. the room looks like it hasn’t been painted or remodeled since the 90’s–except for the flat screen tvs which mom isn’t watching. they do not get her up to walk or anything. her entire existence is now in that dang chair! AND they are charging her $17,687 a month for this! total fricking rip off.

she told us she slept in her clothes and they didn’t bother to get her clean clothes out of the drawers and they told her NOT to get up unless someone is there. they have her walker against the wall which she cannot get to. when she pushes the button to get someone, they take forever to come. while we were there, some guy down the hall was screaming non stop for hours. my sister in law is looking into a new place.

      1. my sister in law and brother are looking for another place. they will have to do it quickly though, because if her bank accounts get drained to nothing, the place will make her sign her house over to continue being there.

        1. Oh, this is just so fricking wrong! And the fact of the matter is (forgive me) but your brother is an absolute putz for letting it get to this point! He should have stepped up soooo very long ago! I wish I could kick his ass!!! Doesn’t she have Medicare or some kind of insurance/financial assistance?? You know, Kea posted an exhaustive list of methods for assistance yesterday, I think – I printed it out – you should check that out. Surely there is something there to help her out!!!

          1. she has to exhaust her bank accounts first–which at those prices won’t be long. they can they attach or take her house. even if she passes the day after they do that, they keep all the $$.

if she outlives the proceeds from the house, then the state will take over the cost of her care.

I was soooo happy to see all my flowers blooming, Weigela in full bloom, honeysuckle exploding, with the CA Buttercups below…..it made me soooo happy to see it all. All the rain has done it’s thing. If Michael stops by later, I’ll have him go out and take some pics. I did step out on the patio and snapped a couple thru the screen but haven’t downloaded them yet. Still pretty scatter-brained but I’ll get there.

I was afraid my Orioles had abandoned me since the feeder was spotlessly bare of any jelly – Sis forgot yesterday – Gage helped me fill it last evening but I wasn’t seeing any until I noticed this morning they were drinking the honeysuckle sap and are now returning to the jelly. Yeah! Getting back to normal slowly….still doing too much but really working at reining myself in.

Great job by the National Guard in Los Angeles after two days of violence, clashes and unrest. We have an incompetent Governor (Newscum) and Mayor (Bass) who were, as usual (just look at how they handled the fires, and now their VERY SLOW PERMITTING disaster. Federal permitting is complete!), unable to to handle the task. These Radical Left protests, by instigators and often paid troublemakers, will NOT BE TOLERATED. Also, from now on, MASKS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to be worn at protests. What do these people have to hide, and why??? Again, thank you to the National Guard for a job well done!

    EXCLUSIVE:

Taxpayer-Funded Nonprofit Behind the Anti-ICE Riots in Los Angeles. Over the past two days, ICE agents have conducted targeted operations across the Los Angeles region, detaining more than 40 suspected illegal aliens.

These enforcement actions triggered large-scale demonstrations, some of which turned confrontational, with reports of vandalism, blocked traffic, and physical clashes with federal agents.

The unrest has prompted questions about who is organizing and funding these protests.

One of the organizations at the center of the resistance to ICE is the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), a Los Angeles nonprofit that has long provided legal and advocacy services to illegal aliens.

CHIRLA is known for radical positions on immigration—for example, it led a campaign to abolish ICE in 2018. Yesterday afternoon, as clashes with federal law enforcement were heating up, CHIRLA Executive Director Angelica Salas held a press conference during which she announced that the Los Angeles Rapid Response Network’s hotline had received more than 50 calls reporting ICE activity and sightings of “men in military garb.”

LARRN is organized by a coalition of nonprofits, and CHIRLA plays a central role, using its main phone line as the hotline number. LARRN’s hotline is one of the communication systems that allows legal observers, volunteers, and other activists to be quickly dispatched to the scene of immigration enforcement actions.

During her remarks, Salas referred to SEIU California President David Huerta as her “brother,” highlighting CHIRLA’s close ties to organized labor in California.

Huerta had been arrested during one of the protests for blocking the path of an ICE vehicle, as shown by video footage released by U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli.

Governor Gavin Newsom expressed his unequivocal support for Huerta, claiming he was only “witnessing” the action, while Essayli announced his intention to file criminal charges.

For her part, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has defiantly opposed federal immigration enforcement in the city, stating on social media Friday, “We will not stand for this” and “No vamos a permitir estas acciones,” (“We are not going to permit these actions”).

She added that her office would collaborate with community-based organizations that serve immigrants. She has a long relationship with CHIRLA and bragged last year about obtaining federal funding for CHIRLA’s programs.

That grant is part of a broader stream of public dollars that the organization receives from government sources. In fact, according to a financial audit submitted to the state, the CHIRLA organization received nearly $34 million in revenue from government contracts during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, with 96% of that funding from the State of California.

That figure marks a sharp increase from the prior year, when it received around $12 million in government contract revenue. Agencies contributing to CHIRLA’s funding during this period included the California Department of Social Services, the California Arts Council, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, and the Department of Homeland Security.

Notably, as mentioned above, a DHS contract funded CHIRLA to provide citizenship instruction and naturalization services.

With $100,000 remaining on CHIRLA’s contract, DHS froze the remaining funds in February.

CHIRLA responded by suing. The court denied their motion for a preliminary injunction on May 29.

This is one of two lawsuits CHIRLA filed against DHS this year. The other was dismissed for lack of standing and is on appeal. To sum up how this works:

Your tax dollars fund an organization that organizes efforts to directly interfere with the federal government’s lawful exercise of authority. Then, through its lobbying arm, that organization helps get Democrats elected to office, who then repay the favor by ensuring increased funding. This is the nonprofit industrial complex at work.

      1. not sure if you remember, but i had a female oriole tugging at the yarn holding the jelly feeder to the railing, so I started putting out pieces of yarn for her. she took every strand i put out there and needed more some days…lol

so she eventually managed to untie the feeder and when she tugged on the yarn the feeder fell off the railing and there was huge mass of jelly in the grass. ants found it, the squirrels were eating it…i don’t think the bears got to it though.

anywhere here is a picture of her nest…it’s not a good one, but you can see she wove the pink yarn into a nest. and the best part? i can see it from the chair I sit in! i can watch her duck in and out.

  4. Just The News: “Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that he will deploy active duty Marines to Los Angeles if the violence continues among anti-ICE protests.

“The violent mob assaults on ICE and Federal Law Enforcement are designed to prevent the removal of Criminal Illegal Aliens from our soil; a dangerous invasion facilitated by criminal cartels (aka Foreign Terrorist Organizations) and a huge NATIONAL SECURITY RISK,” he wrote on X Saturday.

“Under President Trump, violence & destruction against federal agents & federal facilities will NOT be tolerated. It’s COMMON SENSE,” he added.

Hegseth also wrote that the Pentagon is “mobilizing the National Guard IMMEDIATELY to support federal law enforcement in Los Angeles” and if the “violence continues, active duty Marines at Camp Pendleton will also be mobilized — they are on high alert.”

  5. “Their Attempt to Counter President Trump: The Sit Down And Shut Up Strategy”

Michael T. Flynn LTG USA (RET), Jun 08, 2025

“ATTENTION! Examining ANTIFA’s strategy for the summer of 2025 (a strategy to further disrupt and defeat President Trump) is underway, it is very real, and it is extremely dangerous to our way of life.

Countering Trump at every single turn of his presidency is the goal of the very radical left (there are many of them and they are well organized and well-funded). The tactics to achieve their strategy by now has become very obvious; organize, mobilize, disrupt, defeat, destroy, control.

ANTIFA is unapologetic and some of their specific aims are to:

    1. Create chaos

    2. Mobilize dissent

    3. Disrupt law enforcement operations

    4. Incite violence

They are the perfect of domestic terror organizations and should be designated as such. These are not college kids, they are domestic terrorists. Trust that they are part of, and inside of our local, state and federal government institutions (they gather and report intelligence from subversive insiders). They are supported by outside foreign elements for direction and funding, and they are led by very effective political operatives (both on the ground and from a distance).

Their manifesto reads like a Marxist playbook (Karl would be proud). It is filled with tactics, techniques and procedures all calculated to completely destabilize the rule of law, and completely upset the Trump administration’s efforts to deport millions of illegals intentionally brought in by the Biden administration to destroy America AND to further the left’s ultimate agenda of taking over America. The coup began under Brack Obama and has not ended because they have yet to accomplish their ultimate goal—to turn America into a socialist/marxist state (don’t forget, own nothing and be happy).

I simply call it the “sit down and shut up strategy.”

There are many ways for us to respond to this threat to our way of life. First is to clearly identify what it is we are facing. These are not unorganized groups of street thugs. Once we realize what we’re facing (and I don’t believe the majority of Americans yet understand what is happening—the media should take some of this blame), then and only then will we, as a constitutional republic using the full weight of the constitution and the rule of law as well as the power of the executive authorities across our nation from the Oval Office to every duly elected Sheriff, be able to wrestle control back from those who are currently working diligently to overthrow our nation.

Enough for now, but more to follow.”

    Automated
Eunisses Hernandez’s call to escalate riots against ICE agents is exactly why the UPRISERS Act exists. Section 2 mandates visa revocation for foreign nationals convicted of rioting or assaulting police—no exceptions. While LA politicians grandstand about “protecting communities,” their rhetoric fuels chaos that endangers law enforcement and undermines border security.

Trump’s policies crushed catch-and-release, slashed illegal crossings by 72%, and restored order through Remain in Mexico and rapid deportations. Hernandez’s performative outrage ignores the real issue: cities shielding violent agitators instead of backing ICE’s mission to enforce our laws.

Arrest her? How about enforcing existing statutes to deport every foreign rioter first?

  8. Tee-hee!!!

Just The News: “ABC News on Sunday suspended anchor Terry Moran after he published an anti-Trump social media post that he has since deleted.

“ABC News stands for objectivity and impartiality in its news coverage and does not condone subjective personal attacks on others,” a spokesperson for ABC News said in a statement about Moran’s post provided to media outlets. “The post does not reflect the views of ABC News and violated our standards — as a result, Terry Moran has been suspended pending further evaluation.”

Vice President JD Vance called on ABC News to apologize publicly for the post before the suspension was announced. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote on X Sunday that Moran “went on a rampage” against President Trump and Stephen Miller, deputy chief of staff for policy. “This is unhinged and unacceptable,” she wrote. “We have reached out to @ABC to inquire about how they plan to hold Terry accountable.”

In the post, Moran called both Miller and Trump world-class haters. “Miller is a man who is richly endowed with the capacity for hatred. He’s a world-class hater. You can see this just by looking at him because you can see that his hatreds are his spiritual nourishment. He eats his hate,” he wrote. “Trump is a world-class hater. But his hatred only a means to an end, and that end his own glorification. That’s his spiritual nourishment.”

Vance called the post an “absolutely vile smear” of Miller. “It’s dripping with hatred. Remember that every time you watch ABC’s coverage of the Trump administration,” he wrote. “As it happens, I know Stephen quite well. And he’s motivated by love of country. He’s motivated by a fear that people like Terry Moran make rules that normal Americans have to follow, but well connected people don’t,” he added.

Vance continued, writing, “It’s why he fought so hard to get President Trump elected and why he works to hard to implement the agenda. ABC should apologize to Stephen. What Terry posted is disgraceful.”

Miller responded to Moran’s post on X. “The most important fact about Terry’s full public meltdown is what it shows about the corporate press in America,” he wrote. “For decades, the privileged anchors and reporters narrating and gatekeeping our society have been radicals adopting a journalist’s pose. Terry pulled off his mask.”

  10. EXCERPT: “The Trump DoJ launched a lawsuit against the state of Texas for being fake conservatives and fake Republicans and giving benefits to illegal aliens. And then minutes later Texas folded like a cheap suit.

Texas has scrapped a law enabling undocumented students to pay in-state college tuition after the Justice Department objected to the law and state officials agreed.

The decision came just hours after the Trump administration sued to overturn the decades-old Texas law.

I think the real story here is that Texas Republicans, as it is essentially a Republican controlled state and has been for years, allowed this law to stand for as long as possible until President Trump pointed out the insanity and hypocrisy.

Maybe because this is the stereotypical Texas Republican:

To be fair to Bush, this bill passed in 2001 and was signed into law by Rick Perry as the – I kid you not – “Texas Dream Act.” Yes, Republicans pushed “dreamers” before Obama was even on the political radar. Just so you know how far Trump has taken the party in terms of border enforcement.

Greg Abbott, who has had the power to do this for years, announced last night under threat of lawsuit from the Department of Justice, that he has ended this Texas policy.

  11. “Leaked Audio: Things Just Got a Lot Worse Over At the DNC”

Red State, By Bonchie  | 3:52 PM on June 08, 2025

    AP Photo/Andrew Harnik

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Things just got a lot spicier over at the Democratic National Committee. Audio has leaked of party Chair Ken Martin threatening to quit over the infighting caused by Vice Chair David Hogg.

As RedState has reported, Hogg was inexplicably elected in January because the DNC apparently lacks any and all foresight. Since his ascension, the do-nothing gun control activist and failed pillow salesman has been raising money for primary challengers when the party’s position is to support incumbents. That’s led to escalating tensions, and even an attempt to remove Hogg based on a voting technicality.

In the leaked audio published by Politico, Martin can be heard speaking to Hogg, candidly expressing his frustration about the distractions being caused.

Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin told party leaders in a recent private conversation that he’s unsure about his ability to lead the party because of infighting created by Vice Chair David Hogg.

“I’ll be very honest with you, for the first time in my 100 days on this job … the other night I said to myself for the first time, I don’t know if I wanna do this anymore,” he said in a May 15 Zoom meeting of DNC officers, according to a recording obtained by POLITICO…

…“No one knows who the hell I am, right? I’m trying to get my sea legs underneath of me and actually develop any amount of credibility so I can go out there and raise the money and do the job I need to to put ourselves in a position to win,” Martin said, addressing Hogg. “And again, I don’t think you intended this, but you essentially destroyed any chance I have to show the leadership that I need to. So it’s really frustrating.”

I’m going to correct Martin on one point. Hogg absolutely intended to undercut him with his self-serving media tour and fundraising for far-left, socialist lunatics. He didn’t run for a leadership role at the DNC to ensure Jamie Raskin and Nancy Pelosi get re-elected. Hogg’s goal is to burn the party down and remake it in the image of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the like.

How could anyone be stupid enough not to realize that? On the one hand, I understand Martin’s frustration. On the other hand, he’s the idiot who sat by while Hogg was elected in the first place. If he wanted to “show the leadership” he supposedly has, he could have started by making sure his party wasn’t hijacked by a shameless grifter with all the charisma of an elderly chihuahua.

Here’s the interesting question, though: Who leaked this audio?

There were only a few DNC officers in the Zoom meeting, with one of them being Hogg. Whoever leaked it probably wanted to make Martin look weak and ineffectual while casting doubt on his leadership abilities, and they greatly succeeded. Is Hogg now playing hardball in an attempt to unseat the head of the party apparatus after the two butted head? That’s where my money is, and Democrats are so invested in their radical coalition that there’s not much that can be done to stop this runaway train.”
