  1. Good morning, Pat and Filly!

    Love today’s topic – NEBRASKA!

    Here’s a RUNZA RECIPE!

    https://myfarmhousetable.com/nebraskas-homemade-runza/

    NEBRASKA’S HOMEMADE RUNZA

“I love college football. Especially my alma mater, the University of Nebraska- Lincoln’s Cornhuskers. If you have ever had the opportunity to travel to Lincoln on game day and sit inside Memorial Stadium, there are three essential foods that make a Husker game day: Fairbury Hot Dogs, Valentino’s Pizza and of course a Runza!

Runzas are also known as bierocks. They’re a staple recipe among US regions with strong Eastern European and German heritage. Variations of this recipe fill all the local church cookbooks.

But, if you can’t get to Lincoln in the fall, there is no reason not to be able to make your own Nebraska’s Homemade Runza.

One of the reasons I love this recipe so much is that it is a great freezer recipe.

(Which makes it a great way to use up extra cabbage from your garden.)

Just make the Runza from start to finish and place into labeled freezer bags. When ready to eat, thaw the Runza and reheat either in the oven or microwave.

    A great weekday lunch option.

The Reuben is the real deal! If you recall, I did an open about that @ M’s, as well as some of the other subjects listed here.

    1. Morning, Pat! Love your open, of course! Yep – my families – birth & adopted – came here on that wagon train in 1865. Kool Aid was invented here. As for famous people, how could they leave out Johnny Carson???

The rain finally stopped and the temp plunged overnight – only 26 this morning and frost in some places.

        1. Granted, he wasn’t born in NE but he moved to Norfolk as a young boy and it became his home that he loved dearly. This is a video of a visit home to Norfolk in 1982. His family house is still standing; some years ago, a car came off the road and right into the front of the house. It was rebuilt and, at one time, the Museum was considering purchasing it and moving the Carson display there. But that didn’t happen and it has passed thru several hands since then.

I did an open about him at one point and took Bren/Kal to visit the museum when they were here. I have a picture of them sitting on the JC soundstage that was in the museum. Hiway 81 – his boyhood home is on that road – was renamed from 13th Street to “Johnny Carson Boulevard.”

Poor Anna, you are being used by the Democrats to bring back proxy voting when you are clearly, in your own words, against people receiving taxpayer funded paychecks working from home.

In the 117th Congress (you weren’t with us yet because you had lost your election) Speaker Pelosi allowed proxy voting.

And it became the Democrats greatest tool to accomplish their agenda.

Many of the Democrats stayed home, proxy voted, and handed their voting cards over to Democrat leadership which allowed them to ram through their destructive Democrat agenda and by simply casting all the votes they needed to do it because they had the majority.

And it’s incredibly naive to believe your Democrat friends that proxy voting will only be kept to maternity leave.

This is Pandora’s box and members of Congress will want more reasons to proxy vote like sick leave, family occasions, and on and on.

    They already talk about it!

Serving in Congress is a privilege, not a career choice.

If you need a job with better perks like maternity leave then step down and allow someone else to serve in your place.

Having children and prioritizing them over politics is certainly respectable and worthy.

But you should not be fighting 96% of Republicans, your own party, to change the way Congress has worked from our founding.

You should be fighting this hard for what the American people voted for, Trump’s agenda!

    So like you said.

    “This is ABSURD.” 👇

  3. NF: Part of the problem is all the soy in food items!

Just The News: “There is a national health crisis that’s not getting a lot of attention – except for the opportunity to make money treating it. It involves mysteriously declining testosterone levels in American men population-wide. On average, they’ve been losing an alarming amount of the crucial hormone that quite literally makes them men. And nobody has identified exactly why.

Dr. Abraham Morgentaler, a Harvard testosterone researcher, says he began seeing patients with testosterone deficiency in the late 1980s.

“So the data are actually pretty clear that testosterone levels are declining over the last 50 years or so … it ranges anywhere from 10 to about 20% … over the last 40 to 50 years,” Morgentaler says. “It’s hugely prevalent, affects about one out of three adult men over the age of 40. And not only does it cause symptoms that make men not feel so good, but it’s associated with important health issues.”

Annual prescription testosterone sales in the United States have increased from $18 million in 1988 to at least $2 billion now, according to the National Institutes of Health.

When testosterone is low, it means the testicles aren’t producing an adequate amount. That can lead to all kinds of signs and symptoms including: lower sex drive, erectile dysfunction, fatigue, brain fog, loss of muscle mass and strength, more body fat, weight gain, breast growth, sleep problems, mood swings, weak bones and fertility problems.

Yet it’s noteworthy that a health issue impacting men on a societal level isn’t the topic of urgent research to pinpoint causes.

There are studies that point to pieces of the puzzle. But the researchers Full Measure asked didn’t want to do interviews about their work. They’ve found that countless things in our environment are hormone or endocrine disruptors and could be impacting testosterone levels. These include pesticides, additives, and other chemicals in our food, water and medicine.

Whatever the causes, the declining testosterone in American men could affect how society works.

“Anything with a backbone, fish, reptiles, mammals, they all have testosterone,” Morgentaler point outs. “So we’ve been castrating, removing the testicles and the source of testosterone in domesticated animals for 10,000 years, right? And the observation is the same in every species, which is that the male tends to become more passive. Certainly men who have low levels of testosterone don’t have the get up and go to do often what they’ve done in their male positions, whether it’s within a family structure, whether it’s within a business organization or whatever.”

  4. NF: Stop eating all the fatty foods and get off your butts and EXERCISE!!!

Just The News: “The Trump administration on Friday declared in a filing that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) would not cover weight loss drugs that are used to treat obesity.

The decision will not impact Medicare’s existing coverage for drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro, which can be used for weight loss, when prescribed to treat diabetes, but the federal government will not cover medication prescribed solely to help people lose weight.

A spokesperson for CMS said that the administration felt that moving forward with the Biden administration’s proposal to require the centers to cover weight loss drugs to treat obesity was “not appropriate at this time.”

“CMS may consider future policy options for [anti-obesity medications] pending further review of both the potential benefits of these drugs including updated clinical indications, and relevant costs including fiscal impacts on stakeholders such as state Medicaid agencies,” the spokesperson added in an email to CBS News.

The Biden administration had wanted the federal government to cover the drugs as part of Medicare’s Part D prescription drug benefit, since the medical community largely perceives obesity as a chronic disease.

The decision comes after the Congressional Budget Office found last year that the expansion to cover the drugs would have cost taxpayers and the federal government up to $35 billion over the next decade, despite its benefits.”

  5. IMO, this is a good thing for the average person IF it results in lower prices. Somehow, I doubt that’s how this will work out…..not to mention that this is coming from the NY Slimes!

Just The News: “The global oil market on Friday saw prices hit its lowest number since 2021, with Brent crude oil being down nearly 6% at the end of trading.

The oil prices come as the stock market also recoils over President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on all imports into the U.S., which also included 25% tariffs on countries that import oil and gas from Venezuela and then trade with the United States.

The drop in prices also comes after the OPEC Plus oil cartel led by Saudi Arabia announced its own increase in oil output, which would take place in May, according to the New York Times. The combination of the tariffs and the Saudi-led response dropped Brent crude oil prices down to just $65.58 a barrel, the New York Times also reported. It was at $74 a barrel on Monday.

China retaliated against the U.S. tariffs on Friday by promising to impose 34% tariffs on the country.”

Ovechkin made the record-tying goal during the 1,486th game of his career, according to the New York Post. It was his second goal of the game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

“EIGHT. NINETY. FOUR. WE ARE WITNESSING GR8NESS,” the Washington Capitals posted on X, along with a clip of the goal.

….Elon Musk also confirms Democrats need to start being arrested for the fake NGO money laundering scam. “With respect to the non-governmental organizations, these sort of fake NGOs, I think there needs to be a number of arrests in that regard as well.

Because these are fake charities where mostly Democrats and what’s it called, and I want to be clear, there’s sometimes a little bit of Republican in there — So that’s where you start getting the uniparty thing going on. But it is overwhelmingly to Democrats and they give these billions of dollars to NGOs run by Democrats that then go through a whole network of additional NGOs. It’s a giant money laundering scheme.

Really at this point, I think the word NGO and money laundering are almost synonymous.”

More on Democrats Social Security fraud: Jesse Watters “You said the other day uncovered some evidence that there was massive Social Security fraud and that arrests were imminent. What can you tell us about that? And what can you tell us about what you’ve seen politicians do to make massive amounts of money off of the federal government Like Nancy Pelosi?”

Elon Musk “So we’ve encountered. There’s really so much for it. It’s deciding what should be prosecuted first. Because it’s such a long list, you have to actually prioritize list. We convey the list to the Department of Justice.

The DOJ has a process that they go through to review and think about it. The wheels of justice turn slowly. In fact, obviously I have a maniacal sense of urgency. So to me, when I see that terrible fraud has happened, I’m like, why haven’t we arrested someone already? But as the saying goes, the wheels of justice turned slowly but surely.

I think probably the person that stole 400,000 Social Security numbers, at least, maybe more will be arrested hopefully this week.”

  9. Oh, wow….I got lost watching the JC video – sooooo many memories for me! There is one brief second where they almost show my 1st hubby’s family store, Larson/Florine, where they sold men’s clothing. They also had a store in Wayne. So many of the buildings shown in the video are gone now. I remember coming back home on a trip from VA and discovering that the old Granada Theater had been completely torn down. Again, so many memories of running around in the balcony. It was so disappointing.

  10. Just The News: “The White House on Friday confirmed that President Donald Trump will not attend the dignified transfer of four U.S. soldiers who died during a training exercise in Lithuania last week, and will send Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth instead.

The ceremony in Dover, Delaware, will take place on Friday afternoon but will not be open to the press at the request of the families. The ceremony is to reunite the bodies of Sgt. Jose Duenez of Joliet, Illinois; Sgt. Edvin F. Franco of Glendale, California; Sgt. Troy S. Knutson-Collins of Battle Creek, Michigan; and Pfc. Dante D. Taitano of Dededo, Guam, with their families.

The soldiers were all part of a maintenance mission with an M88A2 Hercules armored vehicle to recover another Army vehicle at a nearby training area. Their vehicle was later found submerged in a peat bog.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that Hegseth will represent the administration at the ceremony, but did not comment on why the president chose not to attend. “The Secretary of Defense will represent the Administration at the dignified transfer for the four brave U.S. service members who tragically died during a training exercise in Lithuania,” Leavitt said.

Vice President JD Vance will also not attend the ceremony, and Trump is expected to remain in Florida.

A group of Democratic senators are also expected to attend, including Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin and Sens. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, and Chris Coons of Delaware, according to The Hill.”

NEW: Dr. Oz drops bombshells on the massive waste, fraud, and abuse bleeding Medicare and Medicaid—exposing a system that’s losing billions while nobody’s watching the books.

“Let me give you some numbers, and I’m going to keep you up tonight.”

What followed was a cascade of shocking revelations about how brokers, bureaucrats, and bad actors are exploiting two of America’s biggest healthcare programs—with ordinary taxpayers footing the bill.

Oz laid it all out: brokers enrolling people without their knowledge, states using federal money to cover illegal immigrants, and patients being counted multiple times across different states.

    Then came the truth bombs:

“Last year, we had 230,000 Americans who are on the Affordable Care Act, the Obamacare plans, who didn’t know it! They found out when the IRS agents called up and said: ‘You guys have this free program in your family, did you know you have it?’”

“Brokers had given them these programs, made money off the U.S. Government—they had no idea it happened.”

“The state of California has taken tens of billions of dollars from the federal government providing ‘free health insurance’ for illegal immigrants in California.”

“We are going to get that money back!”

“There are programs like this that we’re witnessing day in and day out, where Medicaid patients are enrolled in multiple states and the federal government doesn’t know about it.”

“So we pay every state for the same person, but we’re not getting our money’s worth—but those people aren’t getting their health either.”

  14. “People just discovered a magical line that runs through America where people believe in Jesus, have babies, own affordable homes, and … enjoy high wind speeds?”

Not The Bee, Joel Abbott, Apr 4, 2025

I am here to inform you that the Bible Belt has shifted.

    Let’s enhance that map:

Look at that. It’s truly magical. There’s a line between the Central and Mountain time zones just east of the Rockies where your average family is still having 3+ kids.

Meanwhile, big coastal cities have a birth rate far below replacement rate. No wonder they want migrants: They’ll be ghost towns in a century if they don’t import a bunch of poor people to keep their city services running!

But there’s more to this magic line. The dark areas on the following map indicate that 75% or more of a local population considers itself part of a church/religious group. The light areas indicate godless commies.

Maybe it’s because you can literally feel the “spirit” move you (and your house) in these areas??

They must love those high winds as much as they love Christ the King, because – surprise, surprise – people who fear God, love babies, and invest in families tend to not be suicidal.

The wealthiest country boys seem to live in this area:

    And homes are affordable:

The line is also the area of greatest concentrated support per capita for Donald Trump:

And it sits at the hundredth meridian, which is a border zone between the drier West and the wetter/more humid East.

I’m starting to think that the Great Plains States are keeping us afraid of tornadoes so we won’t move to the new Bible Belt and mess up their utopia!

“Recent evidence suggests that for nearly two decades, the State of New York has deprived Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) of more than $1 billion in Medicaid funds,” Burlison  wrote in a letter to America’s top two law enforcement officials on Thursday. “The state stands accused of violating federal Medicaid law and intentionally breaching contracts with the federal government, specifically in relation to the Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) program,” he added.

The allegations that New York might be cheating Medicaid first surfaced a few months ago in civil litigation and in a New York Post column. Since then, Gov. Kathy Huchul’s administration has denied wrongdoing, with a spokesperson alleging they are “false claims.”

State legislators have upped the pressure for an investigation and resolution, even staging a rally at the State Capitol recently. But Burlison’s letter escalates those concerns to Congress and federal law enforcement at a moment when President Donald Trump and lawmakers are looking to root out fraud and save money under the DOGE banner.

“In what appears to be a large financial scheme, uncovered by hospital leadership, the State of New York stands accused of violating the terms of federal contracts by failing to fund the state’s share of Medicaid payments from authorized sources,” the Missouri congessman wrote.

“Substantiated evidence shows the transferring of money from NUMC’s own accounts to the state. By law, this then enabled matching federal funds to be sent to the state,” he added.

Burlison said NUMC has claimed that the funds were “transferred back to the state, requiring NUMC to effectively fund the State of New York’s share itself.” In the letter, he referenced the NHCC lawsuit against New York to “prevent this illegal practice” from taking place in the future.

“Governor Kathy Hochul has now proposed changes in state law by means of their upcoming executive budget. The new law would allow the state to take the unprecedented step of assuming control of NUMC without any due process,” he wrote. “This proposal appears to be an attempt to cover-up the state’s theft of Medicaid funds by removing the leadership who exposed the State’s malfeasance and assuming negligence on behalf of hospital.”

  18. Luna is a hypocrite in more ways than one!!!

EXCERPT: “….But it’s hard to take Luna’s professed support for so-called “pro-family” policies seriously. When it came to standing against the anti-family abortion amendment in her own state last year, the congresswoman was largely absent from the fight.

Leading up to the 2024 election, radical left-wing activists gathered enough signatures to place a deceptively worded pro-abortion amendment on Florida’s November ballot. As The Federalist’s Jordan Boyd reported, this extreme initiative — which required at least 60 percent support to pass — sought to “effectively enshrine abortion through birth in the Sunshine State’s constitution and eliminate safeguards designed to protect women and children.”

In response to the prospect of baby-killing being enshrined in their state’s founding document, nearly every member of Florida’s GOP congressional delegation forcefully spoke out against the horrific amendment. Meanwhile, Luna played coy on the subject.

Less than two months before the November contest, the congresswoman was asked by Politico how she planned to vote on the initiative seeking to enshrine abortion through birth into her state’s constitution. Rather than come out in strong opposition to Amendment 4 and highlight its extreme provisions, Luna repeatedly declined to give a definitive answer. She furthermore neglected to discourage Floridians from supporting the initiative.

“I think it’s a state’s rights issue,” Luna said. “I don’t think that questions of policy should be placed on the ballot, and I think that there’s some things that are up for debate within the medical community alone.” When again pressed on her stance, she said, “The Supreme Court said, as a federal legislator, that my opinion on the matter doesn’t really matter.”

Luna was also vague about her stance on the pro-abortion initiative during an August 2024 radio interview. The congresswoman said she is “personally very pro-life” and “not ever going to change that position,” and hinted that she would oppose the measure. Much like her engagement with Politico, however, the congresswoman stopped short of professing her opposition to the amendment, once again using “state’s rights” as a cop-out.

“I think you know how I will probably be voting on that, but again, that’s not my decision, that’s up for the people to decide,” Luna said. Luna eventually came out in opposition to Amendment 4. In a local interview, the Florida congresswoman noted how the initiative “was specifically written in a way to deceive voters into thinking that it’s something that it’s not,” and chastised her Democrat opponent for her “radical” push for “late-term abortion.”

“I’m inferring you’re voting ‘no’ on [Amendment] 4, correct?” the reporter asked, to which Luna replied, “Yep. Correct.”

Thanks to virtually no help from Luna, Amendment 4 was ultimately defeated and Florida’s pro-life protections for the unborn remain in effect. But the point still remains: The Florida Republican repeatedly tried to sidestep the biggest family-related policy battle impacting her constituents.

Maybe Luna genuinely does have strong convictions on being “pro-family” and ensuring parents are present in their children’s lives. But those convictions do not change the fact that being a member of Congress is not a part-time gig, and in no way should the House change its rules to accommodate members who fail to understand that.

What Luna clearly doesn’t comprehend in her push for proxy voting is that she’s a proxy tasked with voting on behalf of the people who elected her. It’s her sworn obligation to be there for House activities and act in accordance with her voters’ interests.

Like any individual who runs for public office, Luna took an oath to represent her constituents on a full-time basis. That means showing up for votes, committee hearings, and any other actions related to the obligations she agreed to.

If the congresswoman or other representatives want to be an active presence in raising their children, then they should abdicate their seats to people their voters can count on to represent them in Congress. They can’t have it both ways.”

    1. imagine commissioning a painter to paint your portrait and when the time comes, that painter is having a baby and sends someone else in her place. Or a surgeon? or a hairstylist?

  21. EXCERPT: “A Florida man living just over 20 miles outside of Mar-a-Lago has been arrested for posting multiple threats against President Donald Trump. The Jupiter Police Department (JPD) late Friday night announced the arrest of one Glen DeCicco on charges of “Making Written Threats to Kill” the President.

“The investigation began after JPD was alerted to a concerning Facebook post,” a statement reads. “Detectives reviewed DeCicco’s social media activity and confirmed that he had made a written threat directed at the President.” The JPD notes that they coordinated with the Secret Service to investigate DeCicco and take him into custody.

The Sammis Law Firm reveals that a “Written Threat to Kill or Do Bodily Injury” is a second-degree felony punishable by up to fifteen years in prison. DeCicco appears to have been a winner in the ‘fool around and find out’ sweepstakes.

A quick perusal of his Facebook page and the community groups he subscribes to shows a man who posts often about the President. He posted images of Trump around the time of the Butler assassination attempt in which he suggests that Trump was making a Nazi salute as the Secret Service swarmed to protect him.

While that is the mark of a genuinely unhinged mind, DeCicco recently escalated his comments. As of this morning, the posts likely in question are still up on Facebook. On Friday morning, he cryptically wrote, “Ass-ass-inate.” He followed that up just seven minutes later, writing, “Winning strategy: buy QQQ, sell SQQQ today; shoot Trump tomorrow.”

Police state that they interviewed DeCicco about his posts, and he was taken into custody without incident.

President Trump has already been the target of two significant assassination attempts…..”

  22. Townhall: “Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) blocked the construction of a proposed Muslim-majority “city” in the Lone Star State. The development, which was reportedly backed by a group of Islamic investors, aimed to create a self-contained community with its own set of laws and governance.

Abbott’s intervention underscores his commitment to preserving the state’s traditional values and upholding U.S. constitutional principles. Supporters applaud Abbott for taking a stand against what they see as an attempt to undermine the nation’s unity and identity.

This week, Governor Greg Abbott announced that the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) plans to construct a proposed Muslim neighborhood have been halted due to legal complications. Abbott has directed the developers to confirm within seven days that they are immediately halting any project construction he deemed illegal.

EPIC has advocated for building a brand new 1,000-home settlement just 40 minutes from Dallas. The community would include a mosque, faith-based school, community college, shopping center, and sporting facility.

Abbott launched more than a dozen state investigations into the Muslim-dominated development, claiming that EPIC City officials plan to impose Sharia law within the community. However, EPIC City developer’s newly-hired attorney, Dan Cogdell, is claiming that the governor is “racial profiling.”

“It’s because they’re Muslim. It’s just that simple,” Cogdell claimed.

However, Abbott said that EPIC failed to obtain proper authorization and the permits needed for their construction project.

“The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality found that the group behind the proposed EPIC compound did not submit the required permits to begin construction,” Abbott said. “They must confirm within seven days that they are immediately ceasing any construction of their illegal project or face the full weight of the law. The State of Texas will enforce its laws and protect our communities from unlawful actions or threats posed by EPIC or its affiliates.”
