Happy St.Patty’s Day

I found a great article on thefactfile.org website detailing amazing facts about St. Patty’s Day.

From: thefactfile.org:

St Patrick’s Day is celebrated each year on March 17th. The day is the observation of the death of St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. With these 30 St Patrick’s Day facts, let’s uncover more about this great festival which is celebrated all over the world.

1. St Patrick was born in 385 AD in a place believed to be Banna Venta Berniae, a town in Roman Britain (his exact place of birth is however uncertain). He died during the fifth century in the year 461 AD at Saul, Downpatrick, Ireland.

2. St Patrick’s Day commemorates the arrival of the Christianity in Ireland. It happened in the year 432.

3. Patrick was born to Roman parents (Calpurnius and Conchessa). He was not Irish, instead, he was English. His given name was Maewyn Succat. Thus, technically we would be celebrating “Maewyn Day” instead of the “St Patrick’s Day” if his name was not changed. He wrote a book–Confessio–during his last years.

4. At the age of 16, St Patrick was kidnapped and was taken to Ireland. He was kidnapped by a group of Irish raiders who were attacking his family’s estate. He worked there for 6 years tending sheep and then escaped and became a priest.

5. St Patrick’s Day is also known as the ‘Feast of Saint Patrick’ and the ‘Day of the Festival of Patrick’. Patrick studied and received his training in the religion for more than 12 years after he escaped from the captivity of the Irish raiders.

6. Saint Patrickused Shamrock (a young sprig of clover) to teach the pagans about the Holy Trinity. The shamrock is now the official flower of Ireland. It is associated with St Patrick.

7. St Patrick’s Day has been observed by the Irish asa religious holiday for more than 1,000 years.

8. ‘Blue’ was the color associated with St Patrick before the adoption of green as the color for the festival. The color blue was featured both in the royal court and on ancient Irish flags. In 1798, the color green became officially associated with the day.

9. The first Patrick’s Day paradewas held in Waterford (the oldest and the fifth most populous city in the Republic of Ireland) in 1903.

10. More than 100 Saint Patrick parades are held across the United States. Almost 12% of Americans claim Irish ancestry. More people of Irish ancestry live in the United States than in Ireland.

11. One claim in history deeply associated with St Patrick is that he banished all the snake from Ireland. However, this claim is not true because it has been discovered that the chances of survival of snakes in Ireland are minimal because of the cold conditions of the region. However, some say that the snakes represent the pagans he converted to Christianity.

12. In 1762, the first New York City parade took place. With over 150,000 participants, the St Patricks Day parade in New York is the world’s oldest civilian parade and the largest in the United States. And more than 3 million spectators line the parade route which is 1.5 miles long. The parade takes more than 5 hours to come to an end.

13. On this day, Catholics attend church in the morning and then watch a St Patrick’s Day parade.

14. The Chicago River (the system of rivers and canals has a combined length of 156 miles) is dyed green on this day (since 1962). However, the first year when the river was dyed green, 100 pounds of vegetable dye was released into the river. This kept the river green for almost a week. However, today, they use only 40 lbs of the green dye to color the river for the day to keep the environmental damages in check. Now, the dye lasts for about 5 hours.

15. Guinness (an Irish dark beer that originated in the brewery of Arthur Guinness) sale almost doubles on St Patrick’s Day as compared to the regular days when 5.5 million pints of it is sold.

16. The200th anniversary of St Patrick’s Day was marked in Sydney Opera House by making it green.

17. Thefirst St Patrick’s Day celebration in the United States was held in Boston in 1737.

18. On this day, people usually eat corned beef and cabbage, and they wear green. However, corned beef is an English dish and not Irish.

19. Wearing green attire or shamrock is also a St Patrick’s Day tradition. It is one of Irish tradition to pinch someone who is not wearing green on the day.

20. Between 1903 and 1970 most pubs in Ireland were closed because St Patrick’s Day was a religious holiday. However, the holiday was reclassified as a national holiday and the nation started drinking even on this day. Drinking on this day has become a strong St Patrick’s Day tradition.

21. St Patrick’s Day is a national holiday in both Ireland and North Ireland. It is a provincial holiday in the Canadian province of Newfoundland.

22. World’s shortest St Patrick’s Day parade is held in Arkansas, which runs for a total of 98 feet.

23. More than 450 churches are named for St Patrick in the United States. And 5.5 million tourists visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City every year.

24. St Patrick’s Day is one of the most celebrated festivals in the world. Others may includeLa Tomatina — Buñol, Spain; Holi — Celebrated by Hindus Around the World; Carnaval — Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Lantern Festival — Pingxi, Taiwan.

25. St Patrick’s Day parades began in North America in the 17th century but they did not spread to Ireland until the 20th century.

26. St Patrick’s Day is not celebrated on March 17 when it falls within the Holy Week (the week just before Easter, Holy Week in 2018 will begin on Sunday, 25 March and ends on Saturday, 31 March). This once happened when the day coincided with Palm Sunday in 1940 and then again in 2008. The celebration of the Day is adjusted in such a scenario. In 1940 it was observed on 3 April and in 2008 it was observed on 15 March. Now, until 2160, St Patrick’s Day will not fall under the Holy Week.

27. St Patrick’s Day is celebrated in countries including Canada, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Russia and other countries of the Irish Diaspora (refers to Irish people and their descendants who live outside Ireland).

28. More than 1 million people take part in the St Patrick’s Festival (between March 15th and 17th) in Dublin every year.

29. John Fitzgerald Kennedy the 35th president of the United States of America worn a green tie for photographs when Ireland’s ambassador to the US, Thomas Kiernan, turned up at the White House with a bowl of shamrock on 17 March.

30. Finding a four leaf clover on St Patrick’s Day is considered lucky as you only have one chance in 10,000. Generally, you will find a three leaf clover.

  1. 🍀HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY, Pat and Filly!!!

🍀Never forget – the Irish hid the Christian Scriptures, histories and other western writings and saved civilization in the face advancing pagan hordes!

HOW THE IRISH SAVED CIVILIZATION by historian Thomas Cahill – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_the_Irish_Saved_Civilization

The Celtic Monks that Saved Civilization – http://www.markfisherauthor.com/2016/08/the-celtic-monks-that-saved-civilization-part-i/

Quote:“Cahill argues a case for the Irish people’s critical role in preserving Western Civilization from utter destruction by the Huns and the Germanic tribes (Visigoths, Franks, Angles, Saxons, Ostrogoths, etc.). The book retells the story from the collapse of the Roman Empire and the pivotal role played by members of the clergy at the time. A particular focus is placed upon Saint Patrick and retells his early struggles through slavery; basically retelling portions of The Confession of Saint Patrick. Early parts of the book examine Ireland before Patrick and the role of Saint Augustine of Canterbury. Particular focus is placed upon Saint Columba and the monks he trained and the monasteries he set up in the Hiberno-Scottish mission. These holy men, according to Cahill, “single-handedly refounded European civilization throughout the continent.”

  2. Pay close attention to President Trump’s first sentence. He is acknowledging/stating outright the Democrats’ complicity in the cartel drug trade.

These are the monsters sent into our Country by Crooked Joe Biden and the Radical Left Democrats. How dare they! Thank you to El Salvador and, in particular, President Bukele, for your understanding of this horrible situation, which was allowed to happen to the United States because of incompetent Democrat leadership. We will not forget!”

  3. Morning All
we lost power yesterday and it still wasn’t on this morning. hubby had to drive miles up the road to get a cell signal to call the power company, many outages in the area. he came home, and started our generator. gonna be a miserable day.

      1. we’re trying! I started a fire while he was gone, but without power–even with the generator, we have no well usage. (I’ve been filling empty jugs all year for occasions such as this–because without water, we can’t use the bathrooms. sigh.

and he just found out that the newest coffeemaker that we bought won’t run on an extension cord. so there’s that.

i know the power was off at least at 1:30 this morning.

            1. I bought an insulated coffee pitcher and a pour over cone to fit over the top and filters because so many of my electric coffee makers died too soon. I’ve never bought another electric one again. Now I can heat the water 3 ways – an electric kettle, microwave and stove top. If all else fails, I could use a gas or charcoal grill. Now there are even solar kettles to make coffee.

Just after midnight – President Trump lit a BOMB….

    Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump
The “Pardons” that Sleepy Joe Biden gave to the Unselect Committee of Political Thugs, and many others, are hereby declared VOID, VACANT, AND OF NO FURTHER FORCE OR EFFECT, because of the fact that they were done by Autopen. In other words, Joe Biden did not sign them but, more importantly, he did not know anything about them! The necessary Pardoning Documents were not explained to, or approved by, Biden. He knew nothing about them, and the people that did may have committed a crime. Therefore, those on the Unselect Committee, who destroyed and deleted ALL evidence obtained during their two year Witch Hunt of me, and many other innocent people, should fully understand that they are subject to investigation at the highest level. The fact is, they were probably responsible for the Documents that were signed on their behalf without the knowledge or consent of the Worst President in the History of our Country, Crooked Joe Biden!

    1. Morning, Pat! It’s certainly not good for you! Living in isolation certainly has it’s drawbacks. I’m guessing you’ll be picking up a basic percolator you can put on your stove soon! LOL – if I still had mine, I’d send it to you but I got rid of all my camping gear many years ago! Bright sunshine this morning and 48 at the moment. Wheezer showed up for breakfast this morning. Eat and run these days – he doesn’t linger. Still playing his games – rub up against my leg, arching his back, inviting me to pet him, then whipping his head around as if to bite. Bah! Men!!! Can’t live with ’em, can’t kill ’em! LOL

it’s weird–with the generator we can plug things into the ports on it and run things–like we’ll do with the fridge and the freezer since the power will be off for so long. and out computers and router etc can also use the extension cords. but the coffeemaker? NOPE, isn’t that weird?

  5. EXCERPT: “The Democratic Party has dropped to a new record low among Americans, reaching only a 29% favorability rating, according to a CNN poll conducted by SSRS.

In the CNN/SSRS poll conducted from March 6-9, 1,206 respondents were asked about their views on both the Republican and Democratic parties, with a margin of sampling error of +/- 3.3 for total respondents. The data shows that Democratic favorability has been on a decline, dropping a staggering 20 points since January 2021.

The Democratic Party’s current favorability rating reached a record low, according to CNN polling dating back to 1992. The disapproval of Democrats is notably coming from within the party, with only 63% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents approving of the party, a nine-point drop from January and an 18-point drop since the beginning of the Biden-Harris administration.

According to the data, 52% to 48% of Democratic-aligned adults state that the party’s leadership is currently taking Democrats in the wrong direction. While the survey was conducted before some Senate Democrats backed the GOP-led spending bill on Friday evening, calls for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to be replaced have begun to circulate among lawmakers…..”

  6. https://www.timesofisrael.com/netanyahu-says-hell-fire-shin-bet-chief-bar-ag-says-he-cant-before-legal-review/

Our Take: Things are getting mega-spicy in Tel Aviv.

Last week, Netanyahu filed a police report that former Shin Bet (Israel’s FBI) director Nadav Argaman, who served from 2016-2021, was blackmailing Netanyahu, citing an interview Argaman did where he [cryptically] threatened to expose certain truths regarding Netanyahu and the October 7th attack.

Argaman did explicitly cite the fact that Bibi had been exposed previously for funding Hamas in 2018/19 after they lost the support of the Palestinian Authority — a major contributing factor to explain why Netanyahu lost the support of the moderate Zionists and was forced to turn the zealots and the Kahanists in order to form a coalition government.

Those radicals don’t mind that Netanyahu was funding their enemy, since the faction he was supporting wants the same thing they want: War.

The current head of the Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, has also signaled that he may be prepared to further expose Netanyahu’s ties to Hamas — releasing a report that demonstrated that the money Netanyahu gave to Hamas came from Qatar.

What if we were to learn that Netanyahu was somehow involved with the planning of the October 7th attack? It certainly came at a beneficial time for Bibi, as he was being forced to normalize relations with Palestine, and approve the two-state solution — something he has long vowed to oppose.

And now we are getting reports of Bibi trying to sabotage Adam Boehler’s efforts to get the American hostages released. The longer this all goes on, the more and more Bibi gets revealed as the villain many have long suspected him to be. — GhostofBasedPatrickHenry

  7. https://www.newsweek.com/elon-musk-impeachment-action-judge-blocked-trump-deportations-2045586

Our Take: Elon Musk quote tweeted the word “necessary” in response to a legislator discussing proposed legislation:

That one word post spawned this whole article where the author gives the play-by-by of the exchange:

The legacy media is broken. Those still functional enough to publish articles are chasing their tales and diagraming tweets. (Related: Every Elon tweet cannot be a 500-word news article… Elon tweets more than anyone.)

As for impeaching the judge, it’s happened ~15 times in our history — not nearly enough, but not without precedent. The Taylor Swift-quoting judge that is prioritizing cartel criminals can absolutely be removed.

Also, Federal District Courts, and their judges, were established by Congress in the Judiciary Act of 1789. From Grok:

“Since Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution gives Congress the power to ‘ordain and establish’ inferior courts, Congress has the authority to modify or even abolish them through legislation. The Constitution sets up the Supreme Court as the only mandated federal court, leaving the structure and existence of lower courts—like district courts—up to Congress. For example, Congress could pass a law to reorganize the federal judiciary, reduce the number of district courts, or even eliminate them entirely, shifting their jurisdiction elsewhere (say, to state courts or a restructured federal system). This wouldn’t violate the Constitution because the power to create these courts implies the power to alter or undo them.”

We should totally impeach bad judges. But shouldn’t we also dissolve bad courts? — Ashe in America

Another Leaker in the President Trump Administration. This person needs to be ratted out, fired and prosecuted.

“Report: The Reason Why WH Ignored Judge’s Order Requiring Planeload of Gangbangers to Turn Around”

    Excerpts:

Here’s how it went down, according to a report:

The timeline: The president signed the executive order invoking the Alien Enemies Act on Friday night, but intentionally did not advertise

it. On Saturday morning, word of the order leaked, officials said, prompting a mad scramble to get planes in the air.

At 2:31 p.m. Saturday, an immigration activist who tracks deportation flights, posted on X that “TWO HIGHLY UNUSUAL ICE flights” were departing from Texas to El Salvador, which had agreed to accept Venezuelan gang members deported from the U.S.
Hours later, during a court hearing hours later filed by the ACLU., Boasberg ordered a halt to the deportations and said any flights should be turned around mid-air.
“This is something that you need to make sure is complied with immediately,” he told the Justice Department, according to the Washington Post.
At that point, about 6:51 p.m., both flights were off the Yucatan Peninsula, according to flight paths posted on X.

    More judicial overreach.

“Plaintiffs Urge Judge to Address Federal Government’s Possible Violation of Federal Court Order”

    Excerpts:

Plaintiffs in a legal case against the U.S. government on March 17 urged a federal judge to seek answers from the government regarding compliance with President Donald Trump’s orders on deportation flights.

“Plaintiffs remain extremely concerned that … the government may have violated the Court’s command,” lawyers for Venezuelan immigrants told U.S. District Judge James Boasberg in a filing.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement over the weekend that the order from the judge “had no lawful basis” and that the order was also issued after gang member illegal immigrants had already been removed from U.S. territory.

“The Administration did not ’refuse to comply’ with a court order,” she said, adding later that “the written order and the Administration’s actions do not conflict.”

Leavitt also said that judges do not have jurisdiction over the president’s usage of the Alien Enemies Act or the president’s conduct of foreign affairs.

“A single judge in a single city cannot direct the movements of an aircraft … full of foreign alien terrorists who were physically expelled from U.S. soil,” she said.

  14. Daily Caller News Foundation

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Republican Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida told Fox News host Trey Gowdy Sunday night that he and other black conservatives are targets of Democrats and liberal media outlets because they “don’t fit the narrative.”

President Donald Trump carried 13% of the black vote in 2024, according to CNN’s exit poll, compared to 12% in 2020 and 8% in 2016. Donalds accused Democrats and corporate media outlets of trying to “vilify” black conservatives after Gowdy described having a “front-row seat” to the hostility towards Republican Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina and former Republican Rep. Mia Love of Utah, who recently announced a terminal cancer diagnosis.

    WATCH: https://rumble.com/v6qrvjs-byron-donald-has-message-for-dems-media-who-vilify-black-conservatives.html

“The reason why is because we don’t fit the narrative that the media has been trying to sell people in our country, that the Democrat Party is the only home for black people is simply not true, simply not the case,” Donalds told Gowdy. “As a matter of fact, black people are actually more conservative than the Democrat Party is. So when you see a Mia Love or you see a Tim Scott or you see myself and so many others come along, they have to vilify us, they have to demonize us.”

Scott, who gave the response to President Joe Biden’s 2021 address to Congress, faced racist attacks from liberals that included the “Uncle Tim” hashtag campaign on Twitter. Love, a two-term Republican congresswoman from Utah who was the first black woman to represent Utah in Congress, was snubbed along with other Republicans by Ebony magazine in a profile of black women running for Congress in 2018.

“This is something that we’ve had to develop over the course of our lives. I got into politics when I was 30,” Donalds told Gowdy. “That’s when I realized that I was a conservative and that I had to be able to sell that, not just to myself and convince myself, but to convince people of my community to support me. That’s why that media has to vilify us and destroy us, but it’s not going to work. We are not going to stop.”

Trump endorsed Donalds Feb. 20 for the 2026 gubernatorial race in Florida, where term-limited Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ seat will be open.”

    1. OK – it’s been changed back, thankfully!

“The Department of Defense (DoD) on Monday quietly restored a web page it had removed about Army Maj. Gen. Charles Rogers, a Black man who earned the Medal of Honor for his leadership during the Vietnam War.

The removal of the 2021 article on Rogers stoked furious backlash on social media—particularly after critics realized the then-defunct URL had been changed to include “DEI medal…..”

“….In the wake of the backlash, it seems the Pentagon has quietly reversed course. As of Monday morning, the original web page is back up.

Screenshots from the Wayback Machine indicate the change occurred on Monday morning, as an earlier screen grab from several hours earlier still shows a broken landing page with “deimedal” in the URL.

Additionally, the final paragraph of the article has likewise been tweaked to state: “Rogers has been remembered not just as being a Medal of Honor recipient, but for championing sex and race equality during his long tenure in the Army.”

The Daily Dot reached out to the DoD for comment but did not receive a reply….”

  18. EXCERPT: “…..The media loves to report these kinds of stories at face value, knowing that going even an inch deep into it will uncover some uncomfortable truths. For example, here’s how the New York Times covered the story of Dr. Alawieh:

A kidney transplant specialist and professor at Brown University’s medical school has been deported from the United States, even though she had a valid visa and a court order temporarily blocking her expulsion, according to her lawyer and court papers.

That mean old CBP wouldn’t let that nice kidney doctor lady into the country! Fascists! Nazis! And they may have ignored a court order, even. Gasp! One thing we should probably get straight right now: the Trump administration is quite clearly always going to prioritize the safety of American citizens over what, in the words of RedState’s own Streiff, “some desiccated megalomaniac in a black robe says.”

As it turns out, there’s a touch more to the story than the New York Times wanted its readers to know, including the fact that the nice kidney doctor lady, upon trying to reenter the United States after a visit to Lebanon, was found to have a phone full of videos and photos of Hezbollah militants. And she had allegedly tried to delete many of those photos and videos.

Documents filed in federal court ahead of the hearing allege that it was the contents of Dr. Rasha Alawieh’s cellphone that led to her detention, and ultimate deportation, from Logan Airport in Boston.

Federal authorities say in court documents filed in the deportation case of Alawieh, 34, that custom and border officials found “sympathetic photos and videos” of Hezbollah leaders on her cell phone.

They also found “various other Hezbollah militants” in the deleted photo folder of her cell phone.

    Oh, that.

The court documents also reveal the CBP’s justification for sending Alawieh on a one-way trip back home:

“With the discovery of these photographs and videos CHP questioned Dr. Alawieh and determined that her true intentions in the United States could not be determined,” the documents allege.

“As such CBP canceled her visa and deemed Dr. Alawieh inadmissible to the United States.”

So low is the bar for the media these days that the common sense act of preventing a bad actor from entering the United States—or throwing them out on their ear like will hopefully soon happen to Mahmoud Khalil—is portrayed as a betrayal of all that is good and right.

Hilton Beckham, the assistant commissioner of public affairs for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), had a succinct reply to the outrage:

“Arriving aliens bear the burden of establishing admissibility to the United States. Our CBP officers adhere to strict protocols to identify and stop threats, using rigorous screening, vetting, strong law enforcement partnerships, and keen inspectional skills to keep threats out of the country. CBP is committed to protecting the United States from national security threats.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been making the media rounds this past week with the exact right approach for dealing with the likes of Mahmoud Khalil and Rasha Alawieh — the question isn’t why these people are being expelled from the United States, it’s why were they ever allowed in?

UPDATE 3/17/25 1:30 p.m. ET: Politico is reporting that Alawieh attended the funeral of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah while in Lebanon.”

The REAL ID Act of 2005 established security standards for state-issued ID cards, in response to the 9/11 attacks and the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. In the intervening years though, its implementation has been delayed, most recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Proponents of state-level digital ID documents and REAL ID cite factors such as the convenience of digital documents and national security concerns that necessitate the collection of biometric data to verify people’s identities.

In January, former President Joe Biden issued an executive order offering guidance for digital ID documents. But for Twila Brase, co-founder and president of the Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom, REAL ID and digital ID may allow the federal government to usurp state’s rights and assert unprecedented control over people’s lives.

“The real ID is meant for much more than flying,” Brase said. “It’s meant for your life, for all the things you might need an ID for in the future. … It is meant for federal control overall, your identification and all your transactions.”

According to Brase, REAL ID represents a backdoor means through which the U.S. can implement a national ID system, similar to many other countries. “It’s the end of driver’s license in this country. They may look like it, people may talk about them like it, but it’s really this new national ID card,” Brase said.

James F. Holderman III, director of investigative research with Stand for Health Freedom, said, “The widespread adoption of Digital IDs and digital wallets lays the foundation of a surveillance-based technocracy.” Such a system “will almost certainly be used to destroy the last remaining vestiges of individual liberty, freedom and privacy in this country,” Holderman said.

A national ID system could enable the rollout of a national vaccine passport or implementation of a national social credit scheme, Brase said…..”
