Peppermint Patty

National Peppermint Patty Day is officially February 11th so I wanted to research some interesting facts about my favorite candy.  This article from FOODFACTSHUB.COM details facts about the candy AND Charles Schulz’s tomboy character.

From: FOODFACTSHUB.COM:

Are you a fan of the refreshing taste of mint combined with rich chocolate? Or perhaps you’re intrigued by the lovable characters from the Peanuts comic strip? Either way, you’re in for a treat as we explore some fascinating facts about peppermint patty – both the candy and the beloved character. This article will take you on a journey through the delicious world of York Peppermint Patties and the charming universe of Charles M. Schulz’s Peppermint Patty.

10 Intriguing Facts About Peppermint Patty

1 The Birth of a Classic Candy

The York Peppermint Pattie was created in 1940 by Henry Kessler, founder of the York Cone Company in York, Pennsylvania. Initially, this minty treat was only sold in the northeastern United States before going national in 1975.

2 A Snappy Quality Control

In the early days of production, each pattie had to pass a unique “snap test.” If it didn’t break cleanly in the middle, it wasn’t packaged for sale. This ensured that every York Peppermint Pattie met the highest standards of quality and texture.

3 A Massive Production

The popularity of peppermint patties is undeniable. An estimated 1.5 billion York Peppermint Patties are produced each year, satisfying the cravings of mint-chocolate lovers worldwide.

4 The Perfect Blend

The classic York Peppermint Pattie consists of a dark chocolate coating over a peppermint filling. This simple yet irresistible combination has stood the test of time, delighting taste buds for decades.

5 Nutritional Profile

For those watching their calorie intake, a full-size York Peppermint Pattie contains 140 calories, 3g fat, and 32g carbohydrates. While it’s still a treat, it’s relatively lower in fat compared to many other candies.

6 A Comic Strip Sensation

Peppermint Patty, the character from the Peanuts comic strip, made her debut on August 22, 1966. Created by Charles M. Schulz, she quickly became a fan favorite with her unique personality and style.

7 What’s in a Name?

While most fans know her as Peppermint Patty, her full name is actually Patricia Reichardt. This little-known fact adds depth to her character and distinguishes her from the candy that shares her nickname.

8 A Sporty Personality

Peppermint Patty is portrayed as a tomboy and a natural athlete in the Peanuts universe. Her love for sports and competitive nature make her stand out among the other characters.

9 Academic Struggles

Despite her athletic prowess, Peppermint Patty often struggles with academics. This aspect of her character makes her relatable to many readers who may face similar challenges.

10 A Groundbreaking Character

Peppermint Patty was a pioneering character in many ways. She spoke her mind, wore comfortable clothing, and excelled in sports at a time when such portrayals of female characters were rare in comics.

The Sweet History of York Peppermint Patties

A Minty Fresh Beginning

The story of the York Peppermint Pattie begins in 1940 in York, Pennsylvania. Henry Kessler, the founder of the York Cone Company, set out to create a candy that was both refreshing and indulgent. His creation, the York Peppermint Pattie, quickly gained popularity in the northeastern United States. The unique combination of dark chocolate and peppermint filling was an instant hit. The crisp mint center, enrobed in a thin layer of dark chocolate, provided a satisfying snap and a burst of flavor that set it apart from other candies of the time.

From Local Favorite to National Sensation

For over three decades, the York Peppermint Pattie remained a regional delight, beloved by those in the northeastern states. However, its popularity couldn’t be contained for long. In 1975, the decision was made to take the peppermint patty national. The expansion was a resounding success. People across the country fell in love with the refreshing taste and unique texture of the York Peppermint Pattie. Today, it’s estimated that a staggering 1.5 billion patties are produced each year, cementing its status as a classic American candy.

The Peppermint Patty Production Process

Quality Control: The Snap Test

In the early days of production, York Peppermint Patties were subject to a unique quality control measure known as the “snap test.” Each pattie had to break cleanly in the middle when snapped. If it didn’t pass this test, it wasn’t packaged for sale.

This rigorous standard ensured that every York Peppermint Pattie had the perfect texture – crisp enough to snap satisfyingly, yet soft enough to melt in your mouth. While modern production methods have evolved, the commitment to quality remains a hallmark of the brand.

The Perfect Recipe

The York Peppermint Pattie consists of two main components: a peppermint filling and a dark chocolate coating. The filling is made from sugar, corn syrup, and oil, flavored with peppermint oil for that signature cool taste. This mixture is then formed into discs and allowed to set.

Once the filling is ready, each disc is coated in a thin layer of dark chocolate. The chocolate is tempered to give it a glossy finish and that satisfying snap when you bite into it. The result is a perfect balance of mint and chocolate, crisp and smooth, sweet and refreshing.

The Power of Peppermint

While peppermint patties shouldn’t be considered a health food, the peppermint oil they contain does have some potential benefits:

Digestive Aid: Peppermint is known for its ability to soothe digestive discomfort and reduce bloating.

Breath Freshener: The strong mint flavor can help freshen breath, albeit temporarily.

Mood Booster: The scent of peppermint has been shown to improve mood and reduce stress in some studies.

Mental Alertness: Some research suggests that the scent of peppermint may enhance memory and increase alertness.

Remember, while these potential benefits are interesting, they come from the peppermint oil itself, not necessarily from eating peppermint patties. Always enjoy treats in moderation as part of a balanced diet.

Peppermint Patty: The Peanuts Character

Meet Patricia Reichardt

While we’ve explored the sweet world of the candy, there’s another Peppermint Patty that deserves our attention – the beloved character from Charles M. Schulz’s Peanuts comic strip.

Peppermint Patty, whose full name is Patricia Reichardt, made her debut in the Peanuts universe on August 22, 1966. With her freckles and chin-length brown hair (which she describes as “mousy-blah”), Peppermint Patty quickly became a fan favorite.

A Unique Personality

Peppermint Patty is known for her distinctive character traits:

Tomboy Nature: She’s often seen wearing shorts and sandals, bucking traditional gender norms of the time.

Athletic Prowess: Peppermint Patty excels in various sports, showcasing her natural athletic ability.

Casual Attitude: Her laid-back demeanor is reflected in her speech, often referring to Charlie Brown as “Chuck.”

Academic Struggles: Despite her athletic talents, Peppermint Patty often finds herself challenged in the classroom.

Loyal Friend: Despite her tough exterior, she’s a steadfast and loyal friend to those close to her.

Relationships and Dynamics

Peppermint Patty’s relationships with other characters add depth to her personality:

Charlie Brown: She has a complicated relationship with Charlie Brown, often teasing him but also harboring a secret crush.

Marcie: Her best friend, who calls her “Sir,” highlighting Peppermint Patty’s tomboyish nature.

Snoopy: She often mistakes Snoopy for a “funny-looking kid with a big nose.”

Cultural Impact

Peppermint Patty’s character was groundbreaking for its time. She represented a type of girl rarely seen in comics – outspoken, athletic, and comfortable in her own skin. Her character helped promote gender equality in sports, influenced by Schulz’s friendship with tennis player Billie Jean King. While some have interpreted Peppermint Patty as a representation of LGBTQ+ identity, Charles Schulz stated that this was not his intention. Regardless, her non-conformity to traditional gender roles has made her an icon for many.

And I thought that Dr. Tony (“I am Science” and I love to torture Beagle puppies to death) Fauci was the highest paid Federal Government employee!

Top-paid federal employee leaving $10.5M job — after first-term Trump said ‘we’re getting rid of him’

WASHINGTON — Tennessee Valley Authority CEO Jeff Lyash — the highest-paid federal employee with a compensation package of $10.5 million per year — abruptly announced Friday that he was retiring 11 days after the return to office of President Trump, who during his first term slammed Lyash’s “ridiculous” pay and vowed to fire him.

“Sounds like Lyash got DOGE’d,” a senior administration official told The Post, referring to Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency initiative to rein in allegedly wasteful federal spending.

The TVA manages hydroelectric dams and nuclear power plants. Trump said at the time that Lyash should have been earning “no more than $500,000 a year” and should not get a “lavish” exit package.

The then-president, responding to a question from The Post, said that Lyash was grossly overpaid for his role leading the federally owned utility, which is a legacy of New Deal infrastructure projects.

  5. “Wait, USAID Was Involved in Donald Trump’s Impeachment?”

    Matt Vespa | February 06, 2025 7:00 AM

    AP Photo/Alex Brandon

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “USAID will effectively shut down on Friday. Most of the staff will be furloughed as it’s absorbed into the State Department. Under the president’s direction, Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency unearthed a web of corruption, waste, and fraud that wasn’t necessarily shocking but jarring, nonetheless. Democrats are livid that this agency is being gutted, and we may know why. They seem to have subsidized and played a significant role in the 2019 impeachment of Donald Trump.

The agency appears to have been pulling the strings of the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), which was cited multiple times by the CIA whistleblower that sparked the quid pro quo circus surrounding Trump, Ukraine, and military aid. Independent journalists Michael Shellenberger and Alex Gutentag did a deep-dive into this sordid government web, where the purpose of OCCRP wasn’t your usual investigative journalism—USAID seems to have had massive sway regarding agenda, hiring practices, and mission.

    https://x.com/ResisttheMS/status/1887323869431632202

This story on Public ruffled the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project’s feathers, which threatened Shellenberger and company with a lawsuit, claiming their premise was false and defamatory. The second part is a lengthy sifting through of what USAID’s relationship is with OCCRP, the latter of which is trying to create degrees of separation.

Even then, USAID officials offered statements that cast severe doubt on the OCCRP’s supposed independence, which even outlets like ProPublica admit. Drop Site News, an outlet helmed by former Intercept reporters, did well to piece together this seedy relationship. They, too, have been slapped with threats of a lawsuit. It’s quite the read here, folks. And given what we know about the waste and fraud from USAID, it was the perfect vehicle for the Deep State and other anti-Trump staffers at government agencies to farm this out (via Public):….”

  7. “America’s nightmare is over”

NY Post, Miranda Devine, February 6, 2025

President Donald Trump holding up the No Men in Women's Sports Executive Order after signing it in the White House, 2025

“It was an uplifting scene in the East Room of the White House yesterday when President Donald Trump signed an historic executive order, “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” surrounded by dozens of little girls whose safety, dignity, and opportunity it safeguards.

It was the moment when the election victory revealed its bounty, when the world was put to rights by the man sent by the American people to restore sanity and fairness to this country.

“The war on women’s sport is over,” declared Trump. “It’s about time. For years the radical left has waged an all-out campaign to erase the very concept of biological sex and replace it with a militant transgender ideology… From now on, women’s sports will be only for women.”

Standing behind the president at the signing ceremony were the formidable crew from Independent Women’s Forum, including All-American swimming champion Riley Gaines and chairman Heather Higgins, who have done so much to achieve this victory for women and girls.

They advocated for single-sex spaces in women’s sports by badgering lawmakers in Washington and giving a voice to concerned families around America who had been cowed into silence. They developed legislation to define sex-based terms in law. They supported female athletes and helped them sound the alarm about biological men invading their spaces and taking over their sports. They took their message on the road last year with their “Our Bodies, Our Sports” nationwide bus tour featuring well-known female athletes such as tennis legend Martina Navratilova.

And IWF alumnus, May Mailman, wrote Trump’s Day One executive order mandating that the federal government recognize only two sexes—male and female. IWF helped focus a groundswell of public disquiet over the erasure of women and girls into a political movement that helped propel Trump into the White House.

The other great thing is that we once again have a president who is safe to be around little girls. Trump doesn’t have a compulsion to sniff and grope children like his predecessor used to do. Shudder.”

  10. https://www.rt.com/news/612134-trump-shatter-order-lavrov/

“The administration of US President Donald Trump sees the UN-based international system and the so-called “rules-based order” as undesirable, and will likely test the limits of both, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.

The US and its allies have never followed the UN Charter’s principles of equality of states, believing the Yalta-Potsdam agreements to be against their interests, Lavrov wrote in an op-ed published in the Russia in Global Affairs magazine on Tuesday.

The agreements were signed by the leaders of the victorious World War II allies in 1945 – the Soviet Union, the US, and the UK – and shaped the post-war world.

“The West evidently subscribed to these principles with ulterior motives, and then grossly violated them in Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya, and Ukraine,” Lavrov said. Still, the UN Charter should not be abandoned, lest the world lose its common guiding values, he added. – RT

Our Take: Spoiler Alert, Putin and Trump have been working together this entire time. That is something the reprobates in the MSM actually got right – just for the wrong reasons.

They share the same list of enemies, and those enemies are some of the most wicked and depraved individuals who have ever lived. Sergei Lavrov is saying the quiet part out loud, promoting the benevolence of Donald Trump, as he feigns being Trump’s geopolitical adversary.

Worth noting that the actual definition of “kayfabe” (in the world of professional wrestling) is the moment when a character turns from heel to hero, or vise-versa. I expect that moment is coming for Lavrov, Putin, and Russia in the collective mind of the West. – GhostofBasedPatrickHenry

  15. “A New Hollywood — It’s Already Happening”

    Erik Carlson, Feb 06, 2025

    Share

EXCERPT: “While working a full-time job, raising a family, and trying to create content on a regular basis, by far the most criticism I receive for my writing is about my typos, misspellings and bad grammar. But after this, I think two other criticisms stand out.

I receive criticism for not home-schooling my children, for exposing them to public school propaganda, and I get some pushback from people wondering why I consume Hollywood entertainment.

As a member of Generation X, like many others reading this, cinema played a big part in my adolescence. I can remember the theaters where I watched each personally momentous movie. I can recall in vivid detail seeing Star Wars with my family, and the feeling of walking on clouds afterwards. I can still visualize standing in line and later sitting in each theater watching The Empire Strikes BackReturn of the JediRoad WarriorET, Rocky III, Rambo, Top Gun, The Terminator, Ghostbusters. I can remember reading movie posters of movies I knew nothing about and deciding to see the movie based solely on the poster—Raiders of the Lost ArkDie Hard, Back to the Future.

In some cases, I can vividly remember where I sat in each theater. In looking back over the movie titles I just mentioned, I can see that they all have some things in common. Besides being great movies that have stood the test of time, they all include brave heroes, who in many cases risk life and limb to stand up to a corrupt and evil enemy or system in order to save humanity.

Was I being conditioned by Hollywood … in a good way?

Unlike Vivek Ramaswamy, I don’t believe most young children should be dreaming of someday writing software code or winning math contests. I believe young children should dream about being brave and selfless. They should dream about pulling a person out of a burning building, fighting off an invading army, standing up for a person who is being bullied, or scoring a 90-yard touchdown. This isn’t to say that they shouldn’t someday aspire to work at Microsoft or Google, or even that they should instead become a firefighter, police officer, soldier, or play in the NFL. This is just to say that at six years old, children should still be dreamers and not overly pragmatic.

Hollywood has really changed over the years, especially over the past decade. Instead of creating dreamers and promoting bravery and selflessness, it is now propagandizing a country. As much as I still love to sit in a theater eating popcorn while taking in an epic story, it’s now too expensive and frankly, there aren’t a lot of movies worthy of leaving the house to see.

Gone are the heroic tales, and in is the woke conditioning.

Standing up to the system has been replaced with succumbing to the system. Even when a brave hero is the protagonist of a movie, oftentimes they must be a woke version—female instead of male, black instead of white, gay instead of straight, transgender instead of, dare I say, cisgender. Boys are being taught their masculinity is toxic, while girls are taught their femininity is weak. Males and females are conditioned to exist somewhere in the middle, a very Baphomet concept…..”

    That was USAID.
