Hippocampus, commonly known as Sea Horse, is the designation of any of the 50 small marine fish. The word “hippocampus” is derived from the Greek words “horse” and “sea monster.” Sea Horses have a horse-like head and neck, segmented skeletal armor, an erect stance, and a curled, prehensile tail.

One of the most unusual and alluring marine animal species in existence, Sea Horses are found in both tropical and temperate regions all over the world. There’s much more to Sea Horses’ breathtaking allure than just their distinctive protruding faces and curling tails, from weird eating behaviors to exquisite courting rituals.

Appearance

Sea Horses come in a variety of sizes and can grow to be 14 inches long. Sea Horses have broad-snouted heads, curved necks, and unique trunks and tails, giving them a horse-like look and earning them the moniker. Despite being bony fish, they lack scales and instead have a thin layer of skin stretched over a number of bone plates that are distributed throughout their body in rings. 

Sea Horses are protected from predators by the armor of bone plates, and because of this external skeleton, they no longer have ribs. Sea Horses use their dorsal fins to drive themselves forward as they swim upright. They have good camouflage abilities, and depending on their environment, they can develop or shed spiky appendages.

Diet

Sea Horses are carnivorous fish. Sea Horses can easily chew their food thanks to their long snouts. Yet, because they take a long time to finish their meals and have very basic digestive processes without stomachs, they must continually feed in order to survive. Smaller crustaceans that are swimming or burrowing on the bottom are what seahorses hunt. 

Sea Horses ambush anything that floats within striking distance using their superior camouflage, waiting patiently for the right opportunity. Mysid shrimp and other little crustaceans are top choices. The three unique feeding phases in Sea Horses are anticipatory, expansion, and recuperation. When in the expanded phase, the Sea Horse catches its prey by lifting its head, opening its oral cavity, and sucking it in before returning to its normal position.

Habitat

Around the planet, shallow tropical and temperate saltwater is where you’ll mostly find Sea Horses. They are found in protected environments such as coral reefs, mangroves, estuaries, and seagrass beds. Due to their poor swimming abilities, Sea Horses must attach themselves to seaweed, coral, or any other object that will keep them anchored. 

The Western Atlantic’s Caribbean area is home to the Long Snout and Northern Sea Horses. The Mediterranean Sea and warm regions of the Atlantic Ocean are home to the common Sea Horse. The Indo-Pacific is home to the Yellow Sea Horse. The sole Sea Horse found along the eastern Pacific coast, which stretches from California to Peru, is the Pacific Sea Horse.

Reproduction

Sea Horses engage in courtship for several days before mating. During mating, the female Sea Horse can lay between 1,000 to 2,000 eggs in a brood pouch on the male’s ventral side, facing the front. The pouch serves as an incubator, nurturing the eggs until they hatch, which can take anywhere from 9 to 45 days. Once the young Sea Horses are released into the water, the male may mate again within hours or days during the mating season.

Many species of Sea Horses establish pair bonds that endure at least the mating season, despite the fact that they are not known to be lifelong partners. More monogamous fidelity is demonstrated by certain species than by others. When the chance presents itself, many species of Sea horses will quickly exchange partners. 

Threats

The Sea Horse has many predators in its natural habitat because of its tiny size and susceptibility. The Sea Horse is frequently preyed upon by crabs, fish, and rays. Additionally, Sea Horses have been found within the stomachs of predator fish species like bluefin tuna.  The Sea Horse is especially susceptible to inclement weather because, during storms, they are frequently tossed onto the shoreline from the surface they were sticking to.

Ocean pollution depletes many species’ food sources and habitats, including Sea Horses.  Additionally, Sea Horses have been overfished, particularly in Asia, to be used in recipes and as a component of medicine.

Facts about the Sea Horse

The scientific name for Sea Horses, Hippocampus, is also a brain area in humans. 

Sea Horses get their name from their resemblance to land horses.

Sea Horses move 60 inches an hour, swimming exceptionally slowly.

Seahorses are fish with digestive tracts but no stomachs.

The male species of Sea Horses are the ones that give birth.

    temp is about 28* this morning and i can see the deck, so no snow overnight…lol
    Hubby usually brings the feeder in when it starts getting dark but he forgot last night till we after we ate. He turned on the deck lights and caught 2 squirrels in wandering around the deck sniffing around. we’re gonna have trouble from here on out.

  11. Just The News: “Another plane heading to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport almost crashed into a helicopter on Tuesday night, the night before an American Airlines flight collided with a military helicopter and plunged into the Potomac River.

    Republic Airways Flight 4514 was forced to abort its first landing attempt at the airport on Tuesday after Air Traffic Control warned that a helicopter was in its vicinity. The Embraer E-175 executed a go-around maneuver, and safely landed a few minutes later, CNN reported.

    “There’s a helicopter over Georgetown northbound 300 feet,” the air traffic controller told the plane, according to audio from LiveATC.net. The pilot confirmed the warning and was told to go around the helicopter and try to land again, which it did. The plane landed safely at 8:11 p.m.

    The incident occurred the night before the American Airlines flight collided with a military Blackhawk helicopter. All 64 people on board the plane, and three people on the helicopter are presumed to be dead. One of the U.S. Army pilots killed has been identified as Chief Warrant Officer Andrew Eaves.

    CNN is also reporting that the two black boxes, the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder, from the American Airlines plane have been recovered, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

    Several members of the U.S. Figure Skating team were reportedly among the 60 passengers on the flight. Also onboard were Russian figure skaters, as well as other Russian nationals. There were also at least 14 figure skaters on the flight.”

    While this may seem far-fetched, the use of IVF and surrogacy means a child could be born with as many as three “mothers”: her biological mother (the egg donor), her birth mother (the surrogate), and her legal mother (the woman who will legally raise her). Similarly, she may have two “fathers,” her sperm donor and her legal father.

    For those actively working to protect the privilege of U.S. citizenship, it is imperative for the EO’s definition of “mother” and “father” to include children created through U.S. donor egg or sperm and surrogacy….”

    The incident came to light after Koiyan posted multiple videos on social media platform TikTok, which showed her dancing inappropriately over patients with disabilities. In one of the videos, she was seen twerking above the head of a seated disabled individual while wearing scrubs and a healthcare worker’s uniform.

This is simply not normal,” the former diplomat pointed out. He added that even under Barack Obama, Hungary was viewed as an “evil empire.” But Cornstein came in with a different attitude. 

    “I had a great relationship with all the ministers and the prime minister. And because of the good relationship, they called me to see if I could help the country with this or that, and I called them to see if there was a possibility for some kind of cooperation, and we arranged things. For example, defense cooperation,” he said. 

    “Due to the geographical location of the country, joint work is very, very important for both parties, and you can’t cooperate if you don’t talk to each other. This is ridiculous, this is very kindergarten-like,” Cornstein added. The ambassador under Trump’s first administration further lamented the prejudices Pressman brought to the table, saying he “wasted four years” because of this.

    As to serving again as ambassador under Trump, Cornstein noted that both the American and Hungarian sides want him to return to Budapest. “The leadership of both countries has approached me, which is very flattering to me,” he said.

    “I hope to be involved in the process of choosing the next ambassador and have the opportunity to have some dialogue, but will probably leave that task to the next guy or girl,” said Cornstein.”

    The lie is, they never wanted to come to America, not the one a normal illegal endures. They wanted to come for paid debit cards, free housing, free food, free education and health care. None of them wanted to come to work. It was only feasible to make them work when whole factories could be disgorged of its American citizens and replaced with Haitians or Somalis.

    It was only on that large scale that the logistics and financial benefits worked out. And, they had no say in this, either. They could not have predicted that they were going to be entered into a sort of involuntary servitude, wholly illegal in America before the Democrats/communists abandoned the rule of law, because it was just too hard to get what they wanted if they obeyed it….”

      They never would have ventured, but for the bribes of UN associated NGOs, the Catholic Charities and other nefarious evil organizations who played them like pawns to get the optics they wanted and the political solutions that benefitted them and their “refugee resettlement” money-laundering ambitions. If anyone should be hated and despised by everyone involved, it is these organizations who promised the land of milk and honey for no down payment other than the risk of being murdered in the jungle, then disappeared when the return trip was required. The order sent from the Department of Transportation is entitled “Ensuring reliance upon sound economic analysis in DOT policies, programs, and activities.”

    The main thrust of the order is to ensure that all funding is applied to projects that make sense on a cost-benefit basis, a goal that would eliminate the left-wing political projects that Biden’s DOT funded.

    However, there is also a provision in the order that states that communities will be given priority for their projects if they “require local compliance or cooperation with Federal immigration enforcement,” the Latin Times noted. The memo also warns that contractors taking federal dollars may not employ illegal migrants.

    Along with the immigration provision, the order also mentions that DOT will give “preference to communities with marriage and birth rates higher than the national average.” The memo also cancels anything that requires DOT to uphold “vaccine and mask mandates.” So, communities that try to force these rules on a DOT project will not receive funding.

    The order serves as another avenue to pressure far-left, Democrat-dominated areas to come in line with the Trump administrations goals by using the power of the DOT’s purse to underscore compliance.

    The order comes on the heels of a multitude of Democrat states and cities loudly proclaiming their intentions to block the Trump administration’s agenda, especially where it comes to the policy to deport criminal illegals. The memo is more evidence that, unlike his first term, Trump is using every avenue available to put his agenda in place quickly.”
