Suspicious Minds

Today is Elvis Presley’s birthday.  Born January 8, 1935, Elvis died August 16, 1977. His death, however, was not the end of the public’s obsession with the King. In fact, in the last 47 years since he died, Elvis has been “spotted” several times…lol.

This story from Mental Floss details the obsession with Elvis sightings:

On August 16, 1977, something momentous happened in Memphis, Tennessee. It was either the death of Elvis Presley at the age of 42, as more than 80 percent of Americans believe, or the start of the most spectacular disappearing act in the history of mankind.

“Elvis is alive” theories are as varied as they are plentiful, and they’ve been circulating since just after his death. He’s left the realm of popular entertainers and joined the ranks of Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, and to some, Jesus. What follows is a brief history of why some people refuse to let this American icon rest in peace.

THE FIRST SIGHTING

On the afternoon of August 16, 1977, a man bearing a striking resemblance to Elvis is said to have purchased a one-way ticket from Memphis International Airport to Buenos Aires. He supposedly gave the name Jon Burrows, a pseudonym Elvis used when checking into hotels. Patrick Lacy, author of the book Elvis Decoded, claims to have debunked this popular and wholly unsubstantiated story by interviewing airport officials and determining that international flights weren’t available from Memphis in 1977. There’s also the question of why the most famous man on the planet would risk going into a public place in his hometown in order to book airfare for the purpose of faking his own death. Maybe Elvis figured his acting skills would help him avoid suspicion.

THE FUNERAL

A great deal of “Elvis is alive” intrigue centers on August 18, 1977, the day of Presley’s funeral. Footage of the service shows pallbearers struggling to lift a 900-pound copper coffin. The King had packed on a few pounds in his later years, but there’s no way he was pushing a half-ton. One explanation: The casket was outfitted with a cooling system—the kind you’d use to keep a wax dummy of a beloved celebrity from melting on a hot summer day. Sound crazy? Presley’s cousin Gene Smith thought the body looked a little strange. “His nose looked kinda puggy-looking, and his right sideburn was sticking straight out—it looked about an inch,” Smith said in the 1991 special The Elvis Files. “And his hairline looked like a hairpiece or something was glued on.” Smith was also troubled by the smoothness of Presley’s typically calloused hands and the sweat on his brow.

Attentive fans were further spooked when they saw the King’s headstone. The inscription reads “Elvis Aaron Presley,” even though he’d been given the middle name “Aron,” possibly in memory of his stillborn twin brother, Jesse Garon. The theory here is that Elvis used the incorrect spelling to signal fans that he was still alive. Another one of Elvis’s cousins, Billy Smith, claimed the singer simply preferred the more common double-A spelling, as legal documents bearing Presley’s signature attest.

THE DEATH ITSELF

Traditionally, you can’t have a funeral without a death, and what killed the King is another major source of controversy. The medical examiner’s official cause of death was “hypertensive heart disease associated with atherosclerotic heart disease.” Elvis weighed at least 250 pounds in his final days, and one Baptist Memorial Hospital staffer told Rolling Stone, he had “the arteries of an 80-year-old man.” So a massive heart attack isn’t exactly far-fetched. But toxicologists found more than 10 drugs in Presley’s system, fueling speculation that “polypharmacy” played a role in his death.

The general confusion surrounding these and other jargony cause-of-death explanations has undoubtedly helped to foster conspiracy theories. So have issues concerning official paperwork. Elvis’s death certificate will remain under wraps until 2027, 50 years after his passing. While this may seem like further proof of a cover-up, it’s actually a matter of Tennessee law. As for Presley’s autopsy report: It’s a private family document unlikely to ever see the light of day.

THE POOL HOUSE PHOTO

The second major Elvis sighting came in the form of a photo snapped on December 31, 1977. While visiting Graceland with his family, a man named Mike Joseph took some random pictures of Presley’s pool house. A few years later, while studying them with a magnifying glass, Joseph spotted a shadowy Elvis-like figure sitting in the doorway. Experts at Kodak verified that nothing had been doctored, so it seems someone was peering out the window. In an interview with Larry King, Elvis’s good buddy Joe Esposito suggested it was another Presley associate, Al Strada, in the photo. That explanation was good enough for Joseph, but not everyone is satisfied.

A similar case of mistaken identity led to some excitement a few years later, when sports agent Larry Kolb was captured looking uncannily Elvis-like alongside his client (and Elvis’s pal) Muhammad Ali and Jesse Jackson in a 1984 newspaper photo. Kolb came forward with an original color version of the image proving that it was him—not Elvis—in the shot, but that’s hardly laid the matter to rest. Asked in an interview to identify the man in the background, Ali reportedly said, “That’s my friend Elvis.”

THE KING OF KALAMAZOO

In the late ‘80s, the epicenter of the “Elvis lives” universe shifted to Kalamazoo, Michigan, a city Elvis played four months before his death. In 1988, a woman named Louise Welling from nearby Vicksburg claimed she had seen Presley standing in line at the local Felpausch supermarket. He was rocking a white jumpsuit, naturally, and purchasing an electrical fuse. Welling’s daughter later spied him scarfing Whoppers at Burger King. “What gives this account eerie credibility,” expert David Adler told the Los Angeles Times in an interview promoting his Presley-themed cookbook, “is that Burger King was by far Elvis’s favorite fast food chain.”

BACK ON THE BIG SCREEN?

The Kalamazoo hullabaloo spawned a rash of late-’80s Elvis sightings, many of which involved the King doing un-regal things, like pumping gas or buying junk food. These were consistent with the notion that he’d faked his own death to escape the public eye (or the mafia, as one theory holds) and return to his humble roots. But Elvis loved movies—he starred in 31—and Christmas, so it almost makes sense that he would risk blowing his cover by appearing in the 1990 holiday comedy Home Alone.

Believers of this bizarre theory contend that a 55-year-old Presley turned up in the background of the scene where Catherine O’Hara’s character is stuck at the Scranton airport while trying to get home to her son. There’s a bearded guy behind her who looks a little like Elvis in Charro! (1969) and cocks his head in a manner that conspiracy theorists swear is identical to Presley’s onstage mannerisms. Curiously, director Chris Columbus went into Home Alone having just made Heartbreak Hotel, a 1988 flop about some kids who try to kidnap Elvis. Columbus and Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin laugh about the theory in the DVD commentary, but the identity of the extra remains unknown. Even if the real bearded man were to come forward, it probably wouldn’t kill the story.

GROUNDSKEEPER PRESLEY

In the summer of 2016, video of a Graceland groundskeeper purported to be Elvis got the internet all shook up. In the clip, a gray-haired dude in a baseball cap and Elvis Week T-shirt fusses with some wire and holds up two fingers—apparently some type of numerological clue—as he walks past the camera.

The video has been viewed more than 2 million times on YouTube—far more than the one where a clever Elvis fan debunks the whole thing by chatting with the actual Graceland employee, an affable gentleman named Bill Barmer. “I’m not really 81,” says Barmer, who then compares himself to a Pokémon Go character.

THE FUTURE

“Elvis is alive” theories can’t go on forever. The man would now be in his 80s, and the oldest person on record only lived to 122. That means we’ve got maybe another 40 years of stories about the King chilling in Argentina or sipping coffee at Tim Hortons or doing whatever you do as an elderly man who’s been in hiding since the Carter Administration. Unless it turns out Elvis is immortal.

In an interview accompanying The Beatles Anthology DVD, George Harrison likens a brief 1972 encounter with Elvis at Madison Square Garden to “meeting Vishnu or Krishna or something.” His hair was black, his skin was tan, and his aura left the Beatle feeling like “a snooty little nobody.” Harrison may have been hinting at something Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper said rather deftly with their 1987 single “Elvis Is Everywhere.” Alive or dead, Presley is one pop culture deity we’ll never stop worshiping.

  2. Good morning, Pat and Filly,

Years ago, my next door neighbor went to one of Elvis’ last concerts with some girlfriends. They stayed in the same hotel as Elvis and somehow got into his suite after he had checked out – and took pictures of themselves in Elvis’ bed! They said the wastebaskets were full of syringes and pill bottles.

I believe Elvis was abused by his handlers who saw him as $$$ for their own profits.

After I found this article, I made hubby watch Home Alone to see “Elvis”…lol

they keep the actor slightly out of focus in the movie–never zeroing in on his face and why would they–he’s not a star.

This morning, the Twenty-Second Statewide Grand Jury released its final report. This Grand Jury was tasked with investigating vaccine manufacturers and their production process for vaccines following the COVID-19 pandemic.

While we are still reading through the report and its recommendations, it details that, through deception and taking “advantage of scientific journal infrastructure” to hide adverse events from the public, Big Pharma engaged in a “pattern of deceptive and obfuscatory behavior.” Big Pharma brought in billions of dollars in profit, and the federal government amplified bogus “studies,” all while suppressing any opposition that went against their preferred narrative. Instead of federal agencies acting as a backstop to bad incentives, they worked closely with Big Pharma as they cut corners, even becoming unpaid advertisers on their behalf.

The Grand Jury also details the frustrations of many, stating, “these sponsors have taken in billions of taxpayer dollars for creating and selling their vaccines; they cannot be sued if something goes wrong with them; they have access to critical information about deaths related to a side effect of their products; and the public does not have access to that information.”

The Grand Jury has made a number of recommendations that should be followed. The status quo cannot continue. The American people deserve transparency on how Big Pharma is using their federal tax dollars, and they deserve regulating entities that operate as watchdogs, not cheerleaders.

  6. That Fetterman guy…..

“John Fetterman Breaks the Internet With Two Explosive Statements on Fox News — It’s not every day that you hear a Democrat saying something like this.”

The Vigilant Fox, Jan 07, 2025

“Senator John Fetterman just broke the internet, not only showing his willingness to work with Trump but also throwing his fellow Democrats under the bus during an interview with Fox News’s Bret Baier.

First, in a move that surprised many, Fetterman announced he would vote YES on several of Trump’s cabinet picks. Names like Marco Rubio, Elise Stefanik, Sean Duffy, and Brooke Rollins are already on his list, and he’s even open to considering RFK Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard.

“I’m open to hear from everyone, and I don’t know why that’s controversial,” Fetterman fired back at critics, taking aim at his own party. “And I also would like to remind everyone on the Democratic side—that’s the way democracy works. Trump won, and now they’re going to run the table. You don’t have to agree with all of it, but I want to find a way to work together on a bunch of them.”

    (Video)

Then, as if that wasn’t enough, Fetterman took a flamethrower to the Democratic Party’s “freak-outs” over Trump’s interest in Greenland. Comparing it to historic deals like the Louisiana Purchase and the acquisition of Alaska, Fetterman dismissed the hysteria.

“If anyone thinks that’s bonkers, it’s like, well, remember the Louisiana Purchase? I think Alaska was a pretty great deal, too,” he said. “I would never support taking it by force, but I do think it’s a responsible conversation if they were open to acquiring it… And I don’t think it’s helpful to freak out.”

    (Video)

In a time of hyperpartisanship, where “stop Trump at all costs” has become the norm, Fetterman’s laid-back personality and willingness to reach across the aisle are a breath of fresh air.

Relentlessly critiquing every move Trump makes simply because it’s Trump is a losing strategy for Democrats—and for the country.

If Democrats want a shot at winning another presidential election—and actually serving the American people as they claim to do—they need to take a page from the Fetterman playbook: call balls and strikes as they see them, judge Trump’s ideas on their merits, and focus on working together instead of losing their minds over every little thing.”

  10. I LOVE anything about taking CNN to court!!!

EXCERPTS: “Jurors were reportedly “intently listening” to the evidence presented on Tuesday in the defamation case against CNN that appeared to undermine CNN’s argument.

Fox News’ Brian Flood reported that “the jury is locked in, listening intently” while Media Research Center’s Nicholas Fondacaro reported from the Bay County courthouse that “the jury is intently listening” to evidence presented by attorneys for U.S. Navy veteran Zachary Young.

Young sued CNN, alleging that a segment that aired on “The Lead with Jake Tapper” falsely accused him of exploiting Afghans by offering evacuations from Afghanistan on a “black market” following the disastrous 2021 withdrawal. Young argued he used his skills and connections to help corporations and charities to evacuate people. Notably, a court agreed that Young did nothing illegal. Young is seeking punitive damages.Evidence Shows Young Would Lose Contract If Engaged In ‘Black Market’ Operations

Young’s alleges that CNN’s segment “rendered Young permanently unemployable” and caused “Young to suffer millions of dollars in lost income” because the segment “associated” Young with “black markets” via its chyron. Young’s team argues the term “black market” implies nefarious or illegal conduct– which was expressly prohibited in his defense contracts.

CNN’s lawyer, David Axelrod, argued in an opening statement Tuesday that the use of the “black market” chyron did not refer to illegal activity but rather “covert” operations to help evacuate Afghans.

But such a term — “black market” — was expressly stated as being prohibited conduct in a contract between Young and DynCorp International, which is a U.S. defense contractor. The contract, presented to jurors on Tuesday, showed Young would get fired and lose severance if he engaged in any “dishonest, unethical, immoral or fraudulent conduct” — including engagement with “black market” operations….”

“….During Tuesday’s lunch break, Young’s team informed the presiding judge that CNN failed to turn over video footage of Tapper promoting the “black market” segment on air.

Young’s attorneys sparred in the courtroom over the evidence, with CNN’s lawyer telling Young’s defense: “If you knew what you were looking for you could have found it.”

Young’s lawyer shot back: “CNN didn’t know about it’s own videos, it’s news to CNN that they created these videos. We are at fault for not realizing that they failed to comply with the basic discovery obligations? We shouldn’t have to audit CNN’s website or transcripts to make sure they’re complying with discovery process.”

CNN’s attorneys defended themselves, arguing: “It was inadvertent that we didn’t produce it,” and that they “just didn’t know about it.”…..

“….Toward the end of Tuesday’s hearing, jurors were shown a series of text messages between Young and Jill Kornetsky, a CNN source. The messages show Young telling Kornetsky to contact him if she knows people in Afghanistan in need of evacuation.

“It’s not free though we don’t have a ‘non-profit’ standing behind us fleecing [donors],” Young said in a message to Kornetsky. (Young had previously testified about the costs of evacuations).

Kornetsky appeared to call Young a mercenary and accused him of making a profit. Young told the court he took offense to the term “mercenaries.” Kornetsky also accused Young of taking a “cut” before saying Young’s evacuation costs sound “more like a retirement plan than a mission of mercy.”

Evidence shows Young explaining the cost breakdown before eventually telling Kornetsky to “f*ck off.”

Fondacaro reported the “jury seems receptive to Young’s message of ‘f*ck off’ to Kornetsky…”

Young also said he doesn’t have to defend his evacuation costs to a “spiteful b*tch on LinkedIn.” Young told the jurors he “shouldn’t have” said what he said.”

  11. Just The News: “A Florida grand jury report that was unsealed on Tuesday found no evidence of any criminal activity related to the COVID-19 vaccines, but said there were “serious issues” that needed to be addressed.

Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis sought the investigation in 2022 when he was running for the Republican nomination for president. The grand jury was tasked with investigating “any and all wrongdoing” related to the vaccines.  Grand juries in Florida can investigate criminal activity, examine systemic problems in the state, and make policy recommendations.

The report said although the jury found no evidence of illegal activity, it still found problems with the vaccine process and recommended that the state increase transparency around clinical trials and ban ads for pharmaceutical drugs, the Associated Press reported.

“(N)ot finding any indictable criminal activity does not mean we did not find any problems,”  the grand jury wrote. “On the contrary, there are profound and serious issues involving the process of vaccine development and safety surveillance in the United States.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) maintains that the vaccines underwent proper safety analyses and that boosters are still monitored, even after FDA approval.”

  12. Just The News: “Congressional Republicans in both chambers are expected to revive the bipartisan “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility” (SAVE) Act, which has been supported by President-elect Donald Trump. The House passed the bill last year, but the legislation stalled in the Democrat-controlled Senate after the chamber passed a different spending bill that did not include the act.

The SAVE Act requires voters to show proof of citizenship before voting in a U.S. election. Although only American citizens are already allowed to vote in federal elections, Republicans claim illegal immigrants could mistakenly register to vote when obtaining a driver’s license or other benefits, per Fox News.

Texas GOP Rep. Chip Roy and Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee sponsored the legislation in their respective chambers in the 119th Congress. Roy introduced the bill on Friday, but Lee is expected to introduce the act next week.

“American elections belong to American citizens, and the public’s confidence in those elections is the cornerstone of our republic,” Roy told Fox News on Tuesday. “We in Congress have a duty to our fellow citizens to provide that confidence. We must have concrete enforcement mechanisms in place to ensure that our elections and our sovereignty cannot be hijacked and influenced by foreign nationals who have no business voting in this country.”

Lee highlighted the need to pass the act in order to restore public trust in the integrity of federal elections. “A vast majority of our countrymen agree: only American citizens should be able to register and vote in American elections,” Lee told the outlet. “The SAVE Act gives states the ability to prevent illegal voter registration and protect the ballot box from foreign election interference.”

The amendment would limit U.S. senators to two six-year terms and U.S. House members to three two-year terms. The two-page resolution states that after the amendment is passed by Congress and ratified by the states, the amendment would go into effect “within seven years after the date of its submission by the Congress.”

The resolution proposes that after a member of the U.S. House has served three terms, they aren’t eligible to be reelected to the House. After a U.S. senator has served two terms, they are no longer eligible to be elected or appointed to the U.S. Senate…..”

  14. What if ICE Agents Show Up? Schools Prepare Teachers and Parents

If immigration agents arrive on the doorstep of a New York City public school, principals have been told what to do. Ask the officers to wait outside, and call a school district lawyer.

The school system has enrolled about 40,000 recent immigrant students since 2022. Now, as President-elect Donald J. Trump prepares to take office with promises to deport millions of undocumented immigrants, the district has shared with school staff a protocol to try to shield students who have a tenuous legal status.

In a December letter to principals, Emma Vadehra, the district’s chief operating officer, wrote, “We hope using this protocol will never be necessary.”

Still, New York and some other school districts across the country are readying educators and immigrant families for a potential wave of deportations. – New York Times

Our Take: Emotional blackmail intensifies. Seemingly nonthreatening but still unauthorized trespassers and their offspring being deported isn’t a happy thought. Children are especially good at tugging heart strings. Also, it’s not the fault of Americans that the trespassers are here unlawfully.

When Christ followers pray the Lord’s prayer we ask God to, “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” I do forgive them. Even the criminal ones. I understand wanting to live in America. There many in line for that opportunity, lawfully, who have waited years. America is worth it. I hold no hate in my heart for the trespass. It is forgiven.

    They still have to go.

Forgiveness does not require that we enable criminal conduct or prevent the consequences of the forgiven actions. It does not require that we trespass on others, and give away their spots in line to people who broke the law. That’s just emotional blackmail, and it’s despicable.

Expect these appeals to emotion to continue and intensify. Resist them.

Well it seems that Trump is right… Greenland is part of the United States of America… LOL”

EXCERPT: “Published in Philadelphia in early 1942, this ‘Outline of (the) Post-War New World Map,’ created by Maurice Gomberg, shows a proposal to re-arrange the world after an Allied victory against the Axis forces. Its title refers to a ‘New World Order,’ a vague concept, its many definitions often contradicting each other.

At the core of the NWO, however, is always the notion that a small group of powerful individuals, institutions, industries and/or nations must lead the world in the right direction (i.e. towards ‘unification’). This may be against the world’s own will (and therefore done covertly, at least in some versions of the NWO-story), but ultimately it is for its own good.

President George Bush Sr. explicitly used the NWO to refer to U.S. objectives in a Post-Cold War world. The term has a pedigree much older than the Cold War, or even both World Wars. Some might even say – and now we’re straying somewhat prematurely into the field of conspiracy theory – that it goes all the way back to Roman times, as is attested by the (modified) quote of the Roman poet Virgil on the revers of the US Great Seal and (significantly or not, since 1935) on the back of the dollar bill: Novus Ordo Seclorum – literally: ‘A New Order for the Ages.’……..

“Below is a letter to the Secretary of HHS (also cc’ing nominee HHS Secretary RFK Jr.), signed by 14 state attorney generals. The letter demands answers regarding the government’s malfeasance and mistreatment of the COVID-19 vaccine injured and the dead.

If your state attorney general didn’t sign the letter, please let the governor of your state as well as your state attorney general, know of your displease via an email or telephone call. Maybe it is even worth writing something about this on their “X” page. It is up to all of us to speak up and put pressure on our government where and when we can to help those suffering from vaccine injuries.

For instance, the Attorney General of Virginia, Jason Miyares, who calls himself a Republican, did not sign the letter below. As a Virginian, a Republican and as a vaccine injured person, I find this both disheartening and disturbing. It isn’t as if Mr. Mijares doesn’t know. I met with him and discussed the C-19 vaccine risks in 2022.

Mr. Miyares is running for re-election in 2025, and I would like to see someone in the position willing to fight for those injured by the C-19 vaccine. As documented by the letter below, there are still thousands of injured people who aren’t receiving any help or compensation.

    OpenTheBooks, Jan 08, 2025

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “While homes and businesses in Los Angeles are being destroyed by wildfires, Mayor Karen Bass is herself taking a beating by California residents and the press for being outside the country while her city burns. It’s not quite as bad as when New York City Mayor Eric Adams — currently under indictment for unrelated alleged crimes — left the city as it was hit by an icy winter storm in December 2022.

Sure, LA Mayor Bass was already in Ghana for the inauguration of President John Mahama when the fire started, and she was making her way back to LA on Wednesday, The Hill reported. But the real scandal is her $300,154 pay in 2023, plus benefits, making her the second highest paid mayor in the country, just after her San Francisco counterpart.

The San Francisco mayor — who was London Breed last year, but as of Wednesday’s swearing in, is Daniel Lurie — makes $383,760.

Los Angeles Times owner Patrick Soon-Shiong, whose paper is covering the fire extensively, posted on X.com Wednesday that Bass had cut the Los Angeles Fire Department budget by $23 million, and that reports of empty fire hydrants in the Palisades were a concern. “Competence matters,” he wrote.

Eclipsing Bass’ compensation is Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley. She’s the first woman and first openly LGBTQ+ person to hold her post, and the one in charge of fighting the deadly fires.

Crowley’s 2023 pay was an absurd $439,772 — $412,493 base pay and $27,278 “other” pay.

That would be one thing if she approached the job as the well-trained, experienced fire fighter and administrator that she appears on paper — having been a firefighter, paramedic, engineer, fire inspector, captain, battalion chief, assistant chief, fire marshal and deputy chief for 22 years before becoming chief.

But when she accepted the nomination in 2022, she made sure diversity, equity and inclusion goals were front-and-center.

“As the fire chief, if confirmed, I vow to take a strategic and balanced approach to ensure we meet the needs of the community we serve,” as Newsweek quoted her. “We will focus our efforts on increasing our operational effectiveness, enhancing firefighter safety and well-being, and fully commit to fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture within the LAFD.”

Shortly after, then-Mayor Eric Garcetti and Crowley launched the LAFD’s first-ever Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Bureau “focused on ensuring a safe, diverse, and inclusive workplace for all.”

“We believe in, and are committed to, justice in Los Angeles — and we focus an equity lens on every aspect of our work,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. “The Bureau of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion will help to ensure that our progress is permanent and we’re always moving forward with a city government and institutions that reflect and value our diversity.”

DEI isn’t quite helping contain the fires, just like it doesn’t help better educate students, better inform scientists researching diseases, and doctors dispensing treatment. Fires don’t care about a person’s skin color, ethnicity, their gender or sexual preference.

    TOP PAID LA CITY EMPLOYEES

Frustratingly enough, Crowley isn’t anywhere close to the highest paid City of LA employee.

The ten highest paid people in 2023 collected between $606,095 and $857,458, with the average person taking home $321,828 in overtime alone.

All but two of the employees — a fire captain and a Port of Los Angeles pilot — worked for the city’s Department of Water and Power, as reports of the water shortage have emerged.

UPDATED: Department of Water & Power (DWP) CEO Janisse Quinones was hired in May 2024 at a salary of $750,000 annually. KABC News reported that city council members and DWP board members thought it necessary to “attract private-sector talent.” Quinones was previously vice president of electric operations at Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E). Her predecessor at DWP, Martin Adams, made $435,000.

According to the local ABC affiliate, Quinones’ hiring “comes as the utility needs to follow new rules to produce 100% clean energy by 2035.”

  24. Just The News: “The United States Capitol Police on Wednesday arrested a man who was attempting to bring a machete and knives into the Capitol visitor center as mourners shuffle through to see the late President Jimmy Carter lying in state. Carter’s casket will remain in the Capitol rotunda until Thursday morning, where he will be shuttled to the Washington National Cathedral for his official state funeral service.

Capitol Police said the arrest occurred just after 2 p.m. during a security screening at the visitor center’s northern doors.

“Our officers spotted a machete in the man’s bag, stopped the x-ray machine, arrested the man, and secured the machete,” the police said in a thread on X. “Three knives were also found in the bag, along with the machete. Security screening was temporarily stopped at the north side of the Capitol Visitor Center while we investigated.”

The man will be charged with multiple counts of carrying a dangerous weapon, police said. The arrest comes as the Capitol also prepares for President-elect Donald Trump to visit on Wednesday evening. Trump will also be at the state funeral on Thursday.”
