Know-It-All Tuesdays: Let’s Talk Turkey

Why do turkeys gobble?

How much turkey does a person eat per year?

What’s that weird wobbly thing on a turkey’s neck?

What Is a baby turkey called?

And what about adult turkeys?

Can turkeys fly?

How long do turkeys live?

Are turkeys named after turkey, the country?

Are turkeys native to the Americas?

How did you do?

Only male turkeys, or toms, can make a call known as a “gobble;” they mostly do it in the spring and fall. It is a mating call and attracts the hens. Wild turkeys gobble when they’re surprised by loud sounds and when they settle in for the night. The wild turkey can make at least 30 different calls!

The average person in the United States will eat 15 pounds of turkey this year.

The loose red skin attached to the underside of a turkey’s beak is called a wattle. When the male turkey is excited, especially during mating season, the wattle turns a scarlet red. The fleshy flap of skin hanging over the gobbler’s beak is called a snood and turns bright red when the bird is excited. The wobbly little thing on the turkey’s chest is the turkey’s beard, which is made of keratin bristles. Keratin is the same substance that forms hair and horns on other animals.

A baby turkey is called a poult, chick, or even turklette.

An adult male turkey is called a tom (an adolescent male is a jake), and a female is a hen.

The wild turkey can fly! (It does, however, prefer to walk or run.) The domestic turkey is not an agile flyer, although the bird will perch in trees to stay safe from predators.

The average life span of a wild turkey is three or four years. It generally feeds on seeds, nuts, insects, and berries. The average life span of a domestic turkey, from birth to freezer, is 26 weeks. During this period, it will eat about 75 pounds of turkey feed.

When Europeans first encountered the wild turkey in Mexico, they incorrectly classified the bird as a type of guinea fowl called a turkey fowl. Turkish traders originally sold guinea fowl from Africa to European markets; Turkey has no native turkeys!

Yes, turkeys originated in the “New World.” Specifically, wild turkeys are native to Mexico. It’s a funny history. European explorers brought wild turkeys home with them in the early 1500s. The birds were domesticated in Europe and later brought to North America by English colonists. Note that domesticated turkeys have white-tipped tails; wild turkeys have dark-tipped tails.

Till next month…stay sharp!

Watching this unfold is truly something to behold. Hats off to these patriots. ______ “I shut my phone off Friday night because I couldn’t handle the phone calls, and texts and emails from thousands of ICE agents and border patrol agents excited about the rumor I’m coming back,” said Homan, the former Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting director. “But more important than that, thousands of retired agents, retired border patrol agents, retired military [want] to come in an volunteer to help this president secure the border and do the deportation operation.”

I want to expand a bit on what I discussed with Steve tonight. The DOJ tormentors becoming the tormented.

You can tell I got close to emotional and somewhat personal in addressing what I’ve seen in DC courtrooms for 2+ years in the DOJ’s ruthless pursuit of J6ers.

I’ve watched the most unimpressive–physically, intellectually, and emotionally–government lawyers smile at inflicting maximum pain on Americans who committed no real crime other than oppose the Biden regime.

I’ve watched federal prosecutors ignore the cries of spouses, children, and grandchildren sitting inside the courtroom as complicit judges granted the DOJ’s demands for excessive prison sentences and even ask that some be remanded into immediate custody on nonviolent and/or dubious convictions.

I’ve watched DOJ prosecutors work hand in glove with those same judges to systematically deny the Constitutional rights of American citizens despite their oath of office. This includes forcing many J6ers to spend months and years in a DC gulag awaiting trial on charges no other American has ever faced. Some in solitary confinement and others, including grandmothers, sent to violent federal prisons.

I’ve watched DOJ line prosecutors smirk at sympathetic DC jurors when defense attorneys attempted to make their case. (You know who you are)

I’ve watched DOJ prosecutors deny over and over motions to move trials out of Trump-hating Washington DC knowing they would have an easy conviction and boost their careers. (DOJ has a perfect conviction record in J6 jury trials. Not a single defendant has been fully exonerated.) Who wants to win that way? Cowards.

I’ve watched DOJ prosecutors defend a statute (1512c2) they knew was being misapplied and eventually overturned by SCOTUS to turn political protesters into lifelong felons.

I’ve watched a whole team of DOJ prosecutors with every government tool at their disposal go up against defendants who have no means and appear in court alone because they’ve been abandoned by family and friends and must rely on usually hostile public defenders because that was their only hope.

So when I told Steve I would walk out of those courtrooms confident that these corrupt, heartless, otherwise unemployable lawyers would not prevail–always thinking of my grandparents–I meant it.

And despite the immense damage they have caused to these defendants, their families, and the country, they are now on the other side.

Losing sleep, hiring lawyers, worrying about their own careers and families. Perhaps subjected to the same horrific media coverage they created.

    Do I feel bad?

Not for a second. They had choices and they pursued the wrong path. Justice is coming.

This of course doesn’t cover what I witnessed of Jack Smith and his team in both Florida and DC.

The last time Smith was in court–in Washington on Sept 5–I was there too. He sauntered in with his big team of prosecutors and security. He stood behind the government’s table and slowly turned around–twice–to look at the packed courtroom to make sure everyone was looking at him. He eyed all the swooning reporters (except me) and DC residents who were there to egg him on.

    It was comical.

Yes, Jack Smith, we see you. And we are going to do everything in our power to hold you and your team of dirty prosecutors accountable to what you did to Donald Trump, his family, and the country.

Our Take: Joe Biden is a lame duck president, but that doesn’t render him entirely obsolete. Lame duck presidents can, and have, done lasting damage before they leave office. There are numerous accounts of scandalous pardons and political clean-up jobs during the lame duck period, but there are also damn near treasonous acts conducted by bitter election losers.

Consider Benjamin Harrison and the panic of 1893.

Harrison decided to torpedo the economy to harm his successor, he used friendly media to run doomsday editorials and scare off foreign investment, and he directed the US Treasury to spend the surplus. As a result, the stock market crashed with only eight days left before Harrison left office, and Grover Cleveland was inaugurated. The Panic of 1893 resulted in a severe economic depression that continued through 1897. Cleveland was blamed — an historic injustice considering his predecessor tanked the economy to punish Americans for voting in his opponent.

Notably, Cleveland, like Trump, served two terms with a “pause” in the middle. Fast forward to 2024, and lame duck Joe Biden is green-lighting attacks on Russia, further provoking a world wide conflict.

    Consider:

“It has also been suggested that Kyiv should agree not to pursue NATO membership for 20 years, a stipulation that critics of this plan argue kowtows to Putin.”

Note the framing of the writer here, suggesting that delaying Ukraine’s ability to seek NATO membership is “kowtowing” to Putin. Ukraine joining NATO puts NATO on Russia’s border. This will be unacceptable to Russia, whether in 20 years or 120 years. This is escalation of a massive geopolitical conflict by a lame duck president.

They want war and, just as in Harrison’s day, it appears they want to punish Americans for voting in Trump. Harming Americans because you lost an election, while holding the most powerful office in the world, is treason. What’s the statute of limitations on treason? — Ashe in America

  5. The Hidden Truth Linking the Broken Border to Your Online Shopping Cart

During the depths of the pandemic, sales at Alo Yoga surged as its popularity exploded on social media. Kendall Jenner appeared on Instagram wearing the brand’s high-waist leggings. Alessandra Ambrosio and Jennifer Lopez were seen in Alo gear, too. In just one year, business reportedly almost doubled, surpassing $1 billion.

Alo’s sister company, Bella+Canvas, a wholesaler of basic apparel, also reached a milestone, selling directly to consumers through its website. To keep up, the two companies turned to a vast new distribution warehouse in Nevada.

Finding workers for such facilities is no small task, but corporate America often looks to a time-tested strategy: contracting with staffing agencies that temporarily employ migrants, including some who enter the country illegally and are desperate for jobs.

This year, America’s southern border was once again a flashpoint in a presidential election, with President-elect Donald J. Trump pledging to deport millions of people who he said were “poisoning the blood” of the country. Within days of his re-election, he announced his intention to appoint hard-liners on immigration.

But despite the tough talk, the broken border has been a lifeline for America’s on-demand economy under both Democratic and Republican administrations, including Mr. Trump’s first term, an investigation by The New York Times found. Thousands of companies have exploited its porousness by plucking workers from the ranks of unauthorized migrants, sometimes with impunity. — NYT

Our Take: After years of calling Trump and his supporters xenophobic racists on the topic of migration, The NY Times is now, apparently, discovering exploitative and abusive businesses that rely on illegal migration.

“Several former corporate employees of BaronHR said the firm targeted undocumented immigrants because they were less likely to quit or speak up if mistreated.”

The article outlines heinous working conditions, regular injuries on the job, bouncing paychecks, and more.

As we’ve been discussing for years at this point, the biggest victims of unchecked illegal migration are migrants. They are bullied, trafficked, raped, enslaved, and worse. “But who will pick our crops?” ask Democrats who seek to have forgotten that Americans rejected that trade off in the 1860s.

The writers try hard to tie in President Trump on this narrative, but they’re forced to admit deep in the text that Trump’s administration was, solely, attempting to crack down on this exploitation, which led these companies to engage in criminal coverup behavior.

“In 2017, when the Trump administration ratcheted up work-site inspections for undocumented workers, staffing agencies across the country received notices that federal agents would visit.

Around that time, a BaronHR branch manager in Chula Vista ordered employees to throw away hundreds of employment verification documents known as I-9s…”

No such inspections or crack downs by Biden, Obama, or Bush are mentioned. Also of note is the tie in of these businesses to Hollywood and celebrities.

“Another worker was once stationed in a V.I.P. section, packing Alo Yoga items for celebrities and social media influencers.”

The exploitation economy must come to an end, and non-violent illegal migrants must be treated with dignity and respect as they are removed from our country and returned to their homelands. The violent ones as well as the exploitative businesses must be severely and swiftly dealt with.

That the NYT is shifting on this issue and calling out the exploitation of migrants, particularly by those engaged in Hollywood-enabling businesses, is interesting and raises new questions.

  6. Jay Bhattacharya Emerges As Top Contender For NIH Chief

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, a professor of health policy at Stanford University, is a top contender to lead the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the next Trump administration, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Bhattacharya was a key figure who spoke out against COVID-19 lockdowns and mandates during the pandemic.

The consideration, first reported by The Washington Post, comes after President-elect Donald Trump named Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as his nominee for secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the NIH.

If Bhattacharya is ultimately nominated and confirmed to lead the agency, he would be responsible for 27 institutes and centers on issues ranging from cancer and aging to drug abuse. Those include the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which was formerly chaired by Dr. Anthony Fauci.

The agency’s $48 billion budget funds medical research on cancers, vaccines, and other diseases through competitive grants to researchers at institutions across the nation. The agency also conducts its own research with thousands of scientists working at NIH labs in Bethesda, Maryland.

In October 2020, Bhattacharya was a lead author of the Great Barrington Declaration alongside Harvard University’s Martin Kulldorff and Oxford University’s Sunetra Gupta. That document, which garnered hundreds of thousands of signatures, called for an end to the COVID-19 lockdowns, which had been in effect for most of 2020.

Vladimir Putin’s new restrictions on uranium exports to the U.S., announced last week, come as the country’s war in Ukraine continues to heighten tensions with the United States and the West. His announcement created an immediate impact, as uranium prices soared and worries grew that American utilities might have trouble meeting electric demand next year….”

They made the famous deals with Russia, the [123 Agreement]; everybody remembers the uranium one deal, which was about nuclear energy, not nuclear weapons,” Bruner said….”

“…..Before the Russian takeover, Uranium One was a Canadian company that mined Uranium around the world, with assets in Eurasia, Africa, and North America. Its facilities in Wyoming, Utah, and other states accounted for approximately 20% of U.S. uranium capacity at the time, necessitating a review by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States to approve an acquisition by the Russia state-backed company.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sat on that committee and had a prominent role in shaping the administration’s foreign policy. The acquisition became a scandal that plagued her 2016 presidential campaign after investigative author Peter Schweizer and his Government Accountability Institute found nine Uranium One shareholders funneled $145 million into the Clinton Foundation before the deal was set to be considered.

The acquisition was subsequently approved, though Clinton’s team has repeatedly denied that the secretary had a major role in approving the sale….”

  8. EXCERPTS: “If approved by the Senate, Trump’s pick for Energy Secretary, Liberty Energy CEO Chris Wright, will be the first time the Department of Energy has had an executive in the energy industry lead it. In a statement on X, Wright said he’s “honored and grateful” for the opportunity.

“My dedication to bettering human lives remains steadfast, with a focus on making American energy more affordable, reliable, and secure. Energy is the lifeblood that makes everything in life possible. Energy matters,” Wright said.

The statement reflects an aspect about Wright that distinguishes him from other energy champions Trump has picked for cabinet positions. Energy experts have often criticized oil companies for not speaking up as fossil fuels were demonized as inherently destructive, while often capitulating to the activists’ demands to eliminate energy from fossil fuels, in hopes of being the “last one eaten.” Liberty Energy has been an exception.

    No apologies

The company offers no apologies for producing oil and gas, and even speaks proudly of the work it does. Liberty Energy produces an ESG report called “Bettering Human Lives,” which argues that fossil fuels have a net-positive impact on the planet….”

“…..Linnea Lueken, Heartland Institute energy research fellow, previously worked on offshore oil rigs for a multinational oil well service company. She told Just the News that corporate internal communications was always in an apologetic tone for the impact the industry has on the planet.

She said she was once getting some air on the deck of the rig during a break and a “company man” from the company that operated the rig came up to her and the two started discussing the weather on this particularly hot day.

“And he said, ‘Well, you know, it gets hotter every year because of climate change.’ I was speechless. If I believed the product we produced was killing the planet, I would not work in this industry,” Lueken said.

She said it was different among the “rank and file” workers, who were much more skeptical of the “climate crisis” narrative. “As soon as you put a tie on somebody in the oil field, they’ll become an international company man, rather than an industry-loyal company man,” Lueken said. She said she was pleasantly surprised when she heard Wright, someone who defends the industry, will be taking the helm at the DOE.

“I can’t think of anyone better. I’m very excited about that, very hopeful about what that’s going to look like” for the industry, Lueken said….”

  9. EXCERPT: “…..Media Research Center’s NewsBusters Managing Editor Curtis Houck told Just the News on Monday that the MSNBC co-hosts needed the meeting with Trump more than he needed it.

“Joe and Mika are, quite simply, like rats trying to slink back to the ship seeing as how the one they’ve been at the helm of — think of it as the U.S.S. Resistance — is sinking,” Houck said. “Perhaps the best part here is President Trump comes off as magnanimous (especially because cameras weren’t there) with Joe and Mika expressing gratitude their old friend was willing to meet with them.

“They can try and pitch it as they went so they could educate or yell at him as royalty among the anti-Trump left, but anyone who’s familiar with their long odyssey of a relationship knows it was because they need him more than he needs them.”

Since Trump’s victory on Election Day, MSNBC has seen a significant drop in viewership. In the three days after the election, MSNBC’s average audience was 736,000, after averaging 1.1 million viewers during the month of October.

Trump, however, said on Monday that he believes he has “an obligation to the American public, and to our country itself, to be open and available to the press.” “If not treated fairly, however, that will end,” Trump said. “The media is very important to the long-term success of the United States of America.”

“We’re off to a good start, and I will be open and free as to further developments as they take place, that includes media relationships,” he added. Trump noted that he “obviously” has “the upper hand at this moment.”

“And while many others are calling for meetings, I am not looking for retribution, grandstanding or to destroy people who treated me very unfairly, or even badly beyond comprehension,” he said. “I am always looking to give a second and even third chance, but never willing to give a fourth chance — that is where I hold the line.”

Houck said that Trump does not need the mainstream media.

“As far as President Trump’s media strategy for a second term, he doesn’t owe anyone anything. The liberal media remained solvent for four years thanks to their endless and exhaustive coverage of his every move, often at the expense of countless other stories affecting the country and wider world,” Houck said.

“His campaign showed the necessity of meeting people where they are, so I don’t see any reason why that wouldn’t continue except to show the American people what he will have done in office as opposed to discussing his first term or making campaign promises.”……

Riders of Sol Spin were stuck in midair for more than two hours Monday at Knott's Berry Farm.

LA Times, By Clara Harter, Staff Writer, Nov. 18, 2024 Updated 6:14 PM PT

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Twenty-two thrill seekers were left suspended in midair for more than two hours after a technical malfunction on a Knott’s Berry Farm ride brought their fun to a screeching halt.

The Sol Spin ride experienced technical difficulties, causing the ride to stop mid-cycle about 2 p.m., a Knott’s Berry Farm spokesperson said in a statement. Amusement park staffers were able to safely evacuate all riders by 4:30 p.m. Two female riders were taken to a hospital for further evaluation “out of an abundance of caution,” the spokesperson said.

The ride consists of six swinging arms that soar six stories high and rotate 360 degrees, offering riders the sensation of spinning in three directions at once. When the ride froze, riders were left dangling at multiple angles.

Footage from ABC7 News helicopters showed amusement park staffers using a crane to perform repairs on the malfunctioning ride about 3:30 p.m.

Staffers were then able to lower the arms of the ride and evacuate the riders by 4:30 p.m., with several people limping away and at least one person escorted away in a wheelchair, according to KTLA.

The ride is located in the Fiesta Village section of the Buena Park amusement park.”

Granted, I was reading at Wiki but even taking their tendency to obfuscate, he’s a little bit too ready to send troops here, there and everywhere for me. But hey – no-one’s perfect!

I’m sure someone who is more adept than I could sus it out but it’s just curiosity. She was born in MN, tho, which is close to WI, where our line settled when they came from Germany.

Grimmway Farms has issued a recall on multiple sizes and brands of their bagged organic carrots, but some infected carrots could still be in people’s homes, the CDC warned.

The breakout has impacted a total of 39 people across 18 states, but the highest amount of cases are in Washington, Minnesota, and New York, according to NPR. The cases emerged between Sept. 6 and Oct. 28, but the actual cases could be higher because people can get better without medication.

The recall is for baby carrots that had best-if-used-by dates that ranged from Sept. 11 to Nov. 12, and whole carrots that were sold in stores from Aug. 14 to Oct. 23. The whole carrots did not include a “best by” date, per the CDC.

Impacted brands were sold at Trader Joe’s, Wegmans, Sprouts, 365 from Whole Foods, Good & Gather from Target, Marketside from Walmart, GreenWise, and Simple Truth from Kroger, among others.

  15. “The Four Paths for Matt Gaetz to Become the Next Attorney General — There seems to be some confusion about how Matt Gaetz and Donald Trump’s other controversial picks can be put into their roles.”

    JD Rucker, Nov 19, 2024

“Former Congressman Matt Gaetz is facing strong headwinds as Donald Trump’s pick for Attorney General. It’s not just the usual suspects like Democrats and legacy media. He’s being hit hard by some in both conservative media and Republican lawmakers in Washington, DC.

Personally, I wholeheartedly support him for the role, and perhaps if it becomes necessary I’ll make the case for why I believe he’s ideal to take on the UniParty Swamp as the top law enforcement leader in the nation. But for now I just want to add clarity to the conversation because there seems to be a lot of confusion about what happens from here.

I discussed it in detail in a segment of my show (apologies for the backup YouTube link but I don’t have it posted on my Rumble channel yet):

For those who prefer to read rather than watch, here are the four paths for Gaetz to become Attorney General. I’ve put them in order from least to most ideal.

    “Forced” Recess

There has been a lot of buzz about Speaker of the House Mike Johnson “forcing” the Senate into recess if upcoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune is unwilling or unable to adjourn for the required 10 days so Trump can make recess appointments.

What Johnson was referring to was a resolution calling for both chambers to adjourn. If the Senate does not want to adjourn, they can send back their edits to the resolution. If Johnson then denies the edits, the chambers are in a “state of disagreement” over adjourning. If that happens, then President Trump would decide when they adjourn and for how long.

If it sounds too good to be true, that’s because it is. This has never happened in Congress for a reason. All Thune has to do is… nothing. If he does not reply to Johnson’s resolution, it goes into limbo. Nothing happens other than Johnson being able to say he gave it his best shot.

    Temporary Appointment

The Federal Vacancies Reform Act of 1998 allows President Trump to appoint Gaetz as Attorney General in an “acting” role. This will give him full power over the Department of Justice and does not require the Senate’s advice or consent.

But it only lasts for 210 days. If President Trump nominates someone else during that time, then Gaetz can remain in the role until the Senate confirms the new Attorney General, but not longer than another 210 days.

This would give us 7-14 months with Attorney General Matt Gaetz. It’s better than nothing and a lot can be done in that time. But obviously it’s not ideal for those of us who want him to fill the role for at least four years.

    Planned Recess

The option that most seem to be hoping for is a recess appointment made with a cooperative Senate and Senate Majority Leader adjourning for 11 days. This is what Trump called for before the secret GOP Senate leadership vote and all three contenders agreed to some extent.

Fast forward to today and this seems less likely, but I still think it could happen if Thune really is on Trump’s side and if he doesn’t see a path to confirmation. Gaetz can only afford to lose three GOP votes and some are saying ten or more Republican Senators are not committed to voting for him.

The reason this isn’t the most ideal scenario is because even though it’s faster than going through the confirmation process, it also opens the doors for lawfare to slow or even stop it. Trump wants the option available but he would prefer…

    Senate Confirmation

A SPEEDY confirmation process for Gaetz and everyone else Trump appoints is the ideal scenario. Trump knows this which is why he’s been hitting the phones to stir up support among Republican Senators.

The risk here is if Thune works at Mitch McConnell’s speed. During Trump’s first term, McConnell was only able to confirm one of Trump’s picks before Inauguration Day. Compare that to Barack Obama and George W. Bush who both had key people in place with double-digit confirmations before they even stepped foot in the Oval Office.

I neither like nor trust Thune but he’s who we have so I’m going to give him the opportunity to prove me wrong about him. I hope and pray that he can buzz through confirmations and have Trump’s team in place early.

If he can unify the caucus behind Gaetz, Robert F. Kennedy Jr, Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard, and any of the other controversial picks, then Thune will earn my respect for now. If he pulls a McConnell and acts to subvert Agenda 47, then he will prove to be the UniParty Swamp creature that I believe him to be.”

“Commentary: Barack Obama Is Perhaps Not the Political Genius He Tells Us He Is”

American Greatness, Richard Truesdell & Keith Lehmann, November 15, 2024

    President Barack Obama

EXCERPTS: “Every few months, a sanitized report appears on the post-presidency activities of Barack Obama’s public advocacy. It’s a narrative that conveniently ignores the inherent problems in having a person with no constitutional role or congressional oversight take an active role in executive decision-making.

Over the summer of 2024, Obama emerged as a central figure in government censorship of the internet while launching a new campaign against gun ownership. In earlier times, the spectacle of an ex-president leading simultaneous campaigns against the First and Second Amendments might have generated some interest in the legacy media. But as last week’s election coverage proved, the press is no longer interested in reporting hard facts or maintaining transparency. The mockingbird media are now servants of those holding power and will do anything to advance their interests.

Yet there is another interpretation of Obama’s peculiar involvement with Democrat operatives during the Trump and Biden administrations. It is that Obama was never the leader of anything, neither then nor now….”

“….What Democrats failed to comprehend was that the projection of their beliefs onto a relatively unknown, singular person was to create a figure that would ultimately destroy their party in ways they did not anticipate. Obama’s far-left beliefs, his antipathy toward America, and his racial divisiveness were somewhat hidden at first, yet became quite obvious as he was put on a pedestal by Democrats who were blinded by his charm.

Nowhere was this more evident than after Kamala Harris was installed as the candidate. The failure of his vice presidential understudy, Joe Biden, was pushed aside after the disastrous first presidential debate where he seemed dazed and confused. Democrat power brokers, specifically Obama along with Nancy Pelosi, knew there was no way that Biden could defeat Donald Trump in November.

What they didn’t count on was Biden immediately endorsing his vice president. Obama and Pelosi didn’t see that move coming. As a result, politically, they got caught completely flat-footed. It was wonderful for all of us on the right to watch and as much as any political move in 2024, it ensured Harris’s and the Democrats’ stunning defeat.

This should come as no surprise to anyone who has observed presidential politics from the moment Obama was sworn in on January 20, 2009, to last week’s election. The cult of personality surrounding Obama prevented the damage from being seen in its entirety until well after Obama’s second term. His radicalism, hatred of America and Israel, and his tendency to be attracted to wealth and fame compromised his presidency and explained how the Democrat Party lurched so far to the left and alienated a large portion of its moderate base…..”

“…..Looking back through the prism of history, the Obama years didn’t end well for Democrats. When Obama took office in 2008, Democrats held 55 Senate seats and 256 seats in the House. After Obama’s second term ended in 2016, Democrats had lost nine seats in the Senate and 62 seats in the House. There were twelve fewer Democrat governors, with Democrats overall holding fewer elected offices nationwide at any time since the 1920s.

For all the platitudes of his political intellect and savvy manner of operation, Obama has been a down-ballot disaster for Democrats. But it has been a goldmine for Obama, who is now in his fourth mansion. We have to wonder how anyone in the Democrat Party thinks they got their money’s worth with Obama…..”

  17. EXCERPT: “Ukraine has carried out its first strike on Russian territory with US-supplied long-range missiles just days after the Biden administration gave Kyiv the green light despite fears it could escalate the conflict beyond control.

A fiery explosion at an ammunition depot in Karachev around 75 miles from the Ukrainian border in Russia’s Bryansk region lit up the night sky early this morning on what is the 1,000th day of war in Ukraine.

Eyewitnesses along with Russian and Ukrainian military bloggers first reported the attack, with anonymous Ukrainian military officials later telling RBC Ukraine the strike was conducted with the US-manufactured ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System).

Kyiv is yet to officially confirm the ATACMS strike, but Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed they shot down five missiles. A sixth missile was damaged but ultimately landed on the military facility, it said.

The reports emerged within minutes of the Kremlin threatening a ‘nuclear response’ should Ukraine hit targets on Russian soil with Western-supplied long-range munitions.

‘The Russian Federation reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in the event of aggression against it with the use of conventional weapons,’ Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters in Russia this morning.

His statement followed Vladimir Putin’s approval of an updated nuclear doctrine that allows his strategic forces to deploy nuclear weapons if Russian or Belarusian territory is threatened by a non-nuclear nation supported by a nuclear power…..”

  20. Just The News: “Donald Trump’s sentencing, scheduled for Nov. 26, has been adjourned with no explanation by the judge in his New York ‘hush money’ case. Judge Juan Merchan is still considering how to proceed with sentencing given that Trump is now the president-elect and is preparing to take office in January.

The sentencing had already faced a delay from the judge as he considers whether to toss the charges. Merchan is also expected to decide whether to throw out the conviction in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity.

The move, reported by Bloomberg, came the same day Manhattan prosecutors under District Attorney Alvin Bragg are set to tell Merchan whether they believe the case should move to sentencing considering Trump’s new status.

Trump was earlier found guilty of 34 counts of business records fraud in the state trial for allegedly covering up payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.”

Other cookies like the chocolate blossoms (peanut butter cookie with a Hershey kiss on top) I package in rubbermaid containers with waxed paper between the layers.

I usually stack the containers 2-3 on top of each other on the freezer shelf and then place a ziploc bag on top of that.

  22. This afternoon, I need to start getting ready to go back to the Village.

Unload laundry baskets with cloths and shoes to repack. Have to look at the weather to see what clothes to pack for the weekend.

Unload the cleaning stuff and then reload the car with all the sewing stuff.

Sewing projects this time – I need to make those difficult padded cover for the lift arms because they are uncomfortable and she’s been complaining for a month about a pain in her right side – that may be caused or irritated by the lift arms. Have also been working on a design for a safety belt to attach to the lift – so she can’t possibly fall out of the lift again!

Also ordered a narrow cot topper to put in her wheelchair at night to make her more comfortable.

We are also making an appointment to see an Internist to get another cancer screen test. She had ovarian cancer surgery in 2013.

There’s always some new challenge to work on with a progressive disease.

Something fun, though – I’ve found a wheelchair golf cart so we – Dad, her aide and I – can ride her around the Village – to the clinic, grocery store, hair dresser.

That kid looks a lot like Sally Q – except her hair and brows are light brown.

  23. “The Real Fight Begins: Winning the White House Was Only the First Step”

    Ryan DeLarme, Nov 19, 2024

EXCERPT: “More than half of the country is taking a collective victory lap while others record their meltdowns on social media; but the deep political establishment has been uncharacteristically quiet, and that signals to me that something is likely brewing behind the scenes, and that Kamala’s loss was anticipated, and is irrelevant to whatever skullduggery they have up their sleeve.

It’s easy to get swept up into the reverie of a resounding victory, but the real enemy of the public never sleeps, and they are certainly not going to relinquish power without a fight.

Remember, the political establishment is not just a bunch of politicians and civil servants whom you simply disagree with, it’s a deeply entrenched criminal syndicate, one with ties to shadowy international string-pullers and an unaccountable shadow-government of unelected individuals operating in the black-budget or “special access” space. These are individuals who do not want to see America succeed.

As many commentators in this space have suggested, the syndicate is like a cornered animal right now, and they may presently be at their most desperate and dangerous. I can’t say what strategy is being prepared by the enemy, but there are no shortage of things worth writing about in the context of “moves and counter moves” in the election’s wake.

First, a headline at the Washington Times that I have trouble believing:

Does anyone believe for a second that Trump’s landslide victory caught anyone but maybe the hacks in the corporate media off guard?

You know the media got it wrong because of how they lashed out against the American people in the days following the race. But the spooks and operatives of intelligence and NGO world—what Mike Benz affectionately refers to as “the Blob”—had to have known what was coming, which means they’ve yet to show their hand. People like Marc Elias, Norm Eisen, John Brennan—all of the usual deep-state operatives and strategists have been radio silent, but it would be foolish to mistake their silence for inactivity.

So what do we know so far?

    1. Gathering of the Progressive Tribes…..

    2. Protect the King, Identify Enemy Commander…..

    3. Trump’s Senate Play…..

    4. Appointments…..

……I could go on and on about some of these selections, and maybe I will, but for now this piece is already too long and things are changing by the day.

Suffice to say, the real fight is only just beginning. The first battle was the White House, the current battle is assembling the right team and the next battle will be to get the job done. We are witnessing moves and counter moves, and even when things don’t quite make sense, there may well be method to the madness.”

  32. Ummm….JD not voting wasn’t the ONLY problem!

EXCERPT: “…..The door was opened for Kidd’s nomination to be rejected by West Virginia’s outgoing senator, former Democrat Joe Manchin, who voted “no” on Kidd. All the GOP had to do was walk right through that door, and the good people of Florida, Alabama, and Georgia would be prevented from having to endure decades of Embry Kidd’s soft-on-crime judicial activism.

The Republicans who failed to show up for the vote were:

    • Sen. Mike Braun
    • Sen. Steve Daines
    • Sen. Bill Hagerty
    • Sen. Marco Rubio
    • Sen. JD Vance

It is particularly baffling that Rubio, who was recently nominated to be Donald Trump’s secretary of state, would fail to show up for a vote that could have a lasting impact on the residents of Florida. Judge Kidd is only forty-one, just a year older than JD Vance, and thus could serve on the 11th Circuit, or higher, for many decades to come.

Florida’s governor took notice of the same.

“This leftist judge would have been voted down and the seat on the important 11th circuit would have been filled by Donald Trump next year had Republicans showed up. Now, the leftist judge will have a lifetime appointment and the people of FL, AL and GA will suffer the consequences.

Now, the leftist judge will have a lifetime appointment and the people of FL, AL and GA will suffer the consequences.”

    https://x.com/RonDeSantis/status/1858857863277433031

And it’s not like there wasn’t ample reason for Republican senators to show up and vote against Kidd:

Republicans, though currently in the minority, have successfully stalled the vote on Judge Kidd for some months over concerns about his failure to disclose that two of his rulings had been reversed; both cases involved predatory sexual behavior against children. It is required of judicial nominees to submit a completed questionnaire to the Senate Judiciary Committee in order for the members to properly vet the candidates, something Embry Kidd conveniently failed to do.

If Republicans don’t have the hunger and commitment to kick this lame-duck senatorial session to the curb by stopping Joe Biden’s radical judicial appointments from being confirmed, well, that hardly speaks well of their tenacity to boldly enact meaningful change once they take control of the chamber in January…..”
