Today is Gordon Lightfoot’s birthday—born November 17, 1938, died May 1, 2023. One of my most favorite songs is his Sundown. There are many interpretations of what the lyrics mean—a woman who won’t commit? a recovering drunk? Who really knows…but I love it.
I can see her lyin’ back in her satin dress
In a room where ya do what ya don’t confess
Sundown you better take care
If I find you been creepin’ ’round my back stairs
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you been creepin’ ’round my back stairs
She’s been lookin’ like a queen in a sailor’s dream
And she don’t always say what she really means
Sometimes I think it’s a shame
When I get feelin’ better when I’m feelin’ no pain
Sometimes I think it’s a shame
When I get feelin’ better when I’m feelin’ no pain
I can picture every move that a man could make
Getting lost in her lovin’ is your first mistake
Sundown you better take care
If I find you been creepin’ ’round my back stairs
Sometimes I think it’s a sin
When I feel like I’m winnin’ when I’m losin’ again
I can see her lookin’ fast in her faded jeans
She’s a hard lovin’ woman, got me feelin’ mean
Sometimes I think it’s a shame
When I get feelin’ better when I’m feelin’ no pain
Sundown you better take care
If I find you been creepin’ ’round my back stairs
Sundown you better take care
If I find you been creepin’ ’round my back stairs
Sometimes I think it’s a sin
When I feel like I’m winnin’ when I’m losin’ again

“The Death of Men”
Tom Renz, Nov 17, 2024
“I took a rare break this weekend and went out. It was not a work event, it was just being out. As I was sitting at a bar having a drink, a conversation manifested. The gentlemen I was speaking to was a stranger to me but struck me as a kind and genuine person but also someone that was struggling. I’m not going to share the individual’s name or any identifying details but he was a successful individual that had much to be proud of. He had lived a good life, built a business empire, and generally done well for himself. Despite that, as the conversation continued, the gentlemen confirmed that he was, in fact, struggling.
This story is far too common amongst men today and the chance conversation I had with the gentleman at the bar illustrated to me just how extensive this issue is. If, after all that this man had accomplished, he could feel so lost then what was missing?
As the conversation was drawing to an end I made a suggestion to the gentleman. I told him to find his fight. It struck me that what he was missing was something that is central to men and something that no one talks about any more – the need to fight.
To be clear I was not talking about picking a bar fight or any sort of violence, I was talking about purpose. In my parlance, a fight may more accurately describe a quest or purpose a definition I shared with the gentleman. Then I also shared my own story with him. I talked about my work and the fight I’ve carried on for nearly 5 years to try and ensure freedom in our nation; more importantly, I shared how it took until my 40s to realize that my purpose was to fight and that in fighting injustice I found what God had created me to do.
I left the conversation hoping my words would resonate – I believe they did – and that they would help the gentleman – I believe they did that as well. Still the conversation gave me pause and I’ve been considering it ever since.
At this point I believe that the conversation hit on something no one talks about. The innate need for men to find purpose and the fact that purpose for most men is substantially different than for women. As a man I find great joy in my family and relationships, I enjoy simple things, but I need to have a purpose. For me, I want to protect my “tribe” if you will, I want to fix their problems, I want to save the world to ensure their future is bright. In ancient terms, I want to slay dragons to make sure they are not a danger to my family and friends.
While I recognize that I may be a bit extreme in my personal quest to protect people close to me, I do not think that feeling is uncommon for men. Rather, I think it is simply something we are told we should not feel or think about. We are told fighting is evil, avoid conflict, accept where you are in life, and everything that could be construed as aggression, including an aggressive pursuit of excellence, is “toxic masculinity.” We are told that everything that makes a man a man is wrong. The result is that many men have began to believe it and have lost their fight – their purpose.
As I am quite clearly not a woman I really do not know where women find their purpose. What I do know is that the traits that are labeled toxically masculine are typically attributed to men because they are more common in men and also far less frequent in women. Further they are generally demonized and we are told we should not be what we are. A brief perusal of online resources related to “toxic masculinity” sees things that men really do value – like being tough, stoic, strong leaders, etc. – mixed in with things like violence and hate. The phrase itself “toxic masculinity” suggests that somehow being masculine is toxic and this inherent hate for what is natural to a vast majority of men is – I think – at the root of why so many men are lost and without purpose.
Ultimately I think the gentleman at the bar lost his fight because the world has been telling men that any fight they would innately pursue is “toxic” or wrong. I think (and hope) he simply needed a reminder that finding purpose and pursuing it as a man would is okay. I think he needed to hear it from a man and in terms a man would understand.
I have no idea if my words hit home but the gentleman gave me hug and shook my hand before I left. We didn’t sit and cry together, but rather we expressed emotion as men would – a man hug and hand shake. I pray he finds his fight and that we quit demonizing and killing everything it means to be a man.”

Just The News: “House Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo., said Thursday that Congress would extend President-elect Donald Trump’s tax cuts to help seniors living on Social Security, laying out one of many plans for the upcoming agenda for the Ways and Means Committee.
“We’ll be using reconciliation to extend Trump’s tax cuts to make sure that they don’t expire and also to address other tax provisions that President Trump campaigned on, like no tax on tips,” Smith said on the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show.
Reconciliation is a process in Congress through which lawmakers may expedite approval of legislation by circumventing the Senate’s 60-vote filibuster threshold.
A concern among older voters is that many live on a fixed income and the social security tax is a high price to pay. “In regards to the Social Security tax, it cannot be in reconciliation under the law,” Smith said. “Social Security is not allowed to be there.” He added that there was an alternative to helping seniors with the burden of a high social security tax.
“We can use the tax code in a way to help reduce the taxes that seniors pay,” Smith said. “Seniors have not seen any increase on the thresholds for their taxation. In the early 1980s it was $25,000 per person [and] $32,000 for a married couple. There was a marriage penalty. In fact, that has not changed in 40 years.”
He added that inflation has also significantly contributed to the problem. “Inflation has gone up a lot in 40 years, so we’re going to have to figure out ways of helping address and help those seniors who have been wrongfully served for 40 years,” Smith said.
Smith said that the Ways and Means Committee is taking steps to get legislation through as soon as Trump takes office.
“I’ll tell you the Ways and Means Committee is ready on day one in the next Congress, but we’re going to continue to work the next two months to make sure all of our ducks in a row,” he said. Smith stated that there has to be a budget passed before reconciliation can take place, but that will occur in another committee.
One of Trump’s campaign promises that he ran on was “no tax on tips” and Smith said one of the priorities of the Ways and Means Committee is going to make sure that legislation passes.
“Whenever we pass our tax legislation….I have said that there will not be a tax bill that will leave the House of Representatives that does not have that ‘no tax on tips,’” he said. “It’s in the Republican Party platform.”
He stated that ‘no tax on tips’ will be in the tax bill early next year and that it is a big priority for Trump.
Smith said one of the main goals of his committee was to extend Trump’s tax cuts into the future, saying “I will not allow a $7 trillion tax increase on small businesses. Every single American will face a tax increase if Congress does not do their job, and I’m not going to allow that to happen under my watch.”

Just The News: “With President-elect Donald Trump getting another term next year, many school choice activists, including Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters, are hopeful that the Department of Education will be abolished and education policy will return to the states.
Trump has come out and said that he wanted the Department of Education, however Republicans have been throwing around that idea since the 1980s and it hasn’t been able to get done.
“We’re going to end education coming out of Washington, D.C.,” Trump said in a policy video. “We’re going to close up all those buildings all over the place…….we’re going to send it all back to the states.”
The Department of Education was founded in October 1979 under Democratic President Jimmy Carter. Many Republicans have argued that the department has done more damage to education than benefited it.
“President Trump is going to deliver on this incredibly bold reform agenda that he’s laid out….it’s the best education agenda the country has ever seen,” Walters said on the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show. “What we’ve seen is every educational statistic has gotten worse since Jimmy Carter brought us the Department of Education.”
Walters discussed how many American families don’t trust the Department of Education because of the overreach that happened during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Department of Education expanded the definition of sex discrimination to include gender identity and pregnancy earlier this year and rolled back Trump-era rules on student sexual misconduct cases. The finalization of the new rules came after months of delays and critics have already threatened legal challenges.
The department said public schools in states that opposed these changes would need to comply with the new regulations if they want to continue receiving federal funding.
“Those are the threats we face on a daily basis from the Federal Department of Education to push woke ideology,” Walters said. “We fought back. We didn’t comply. I was the first state to sue them here in Oklahoma.”
One of Trump’s plans for education is to empower homeschool families to be able to use the 529 Education Savings Accounts to spend up to $10,000 a year tax free on tuition for grades K-12.
“So to support the growing homeschool movement, in my next term, I will immediately fight to allow homeschool parents the same incredible benefit–$10,000 a year per child, completely tax free to spend on costs associated with homeschool education,” Trump said in a policy video.
Walters applauded Trump for being a “champion” for families being in charge of their children’s education. “The families should be directing educational choices [and] educational decision making for their children……that’s what every state should be doing,” he said.
School choice activist Erika Donalds said that Trump’s presidency is great for parents who have been fighting bureaucracy for years, striving to bring education to a local level. “We know it’s going to take a lot of work,” she said. “It’s going to take cooperation from Congress. Thankfully, we now have both chambers in control by Republicans so we can start that dismantling right away. I think it’s going to be at the top of the list for Elon and Vivek as they launch the DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency).”
She said that the government monopoly on education needs to be broken. “The solution is a free market in education,” Donalds said. “We need to break the government monopoly. It’s not public schools necessarily that are the problem. It’s the monopoly that they enjoy and therefore they do not have to be as responsive to parents who are the consumers, and make sure that they are accountable for student performance.”
She explained that the Department of Education at the federal level really only makes up seven percent of the budgets in education across the country.
“The vast majority of education policy and accountability takes place at the state and local level,” Donalds said. “So nothing is going to happen when we eliminate this department except the elimination of that waste and the corresponding compliance that’s taking place at the state level.”

Just The News: “President-elect Donald Trump was greeted Saturday night by a roaring crowd donned in red as he took a brief interlude from building his Cabinet to attend the UFC fight in New York City’s Madison Square Garden, where he held one of his most famous campaign rallies a few weeks earlier.
The hero’s welcome — complete with chants of “USA, USA” — was capped off when undisputed heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones saluted Trump after winning his fight by re-enacting Trump’s signature campaign dance and then handing the president-elect his championship belt.
Trump flashed a smile and thumbs up as Jones handed him the belt.
“A big, big thank you to President Donald Trump for being here tonight,” Jones said in his post-fight interview, sending the Madison Square Garden audience into a frenzy.
Trump was accompanied by an All-Star entourage that included Elon Musk, House Speaker Mike Johnson, music star Kid Rock, UFC President Dana White, and first son Donald Trump Jr.”

Yeah, I am angry. I don’t deny it.
And I am angry about the failure of both political parties to even discuss what we went through with the manufactured COVID crisis. I am angry about how they have destroyed our lives, our children’s education, and our health.”

EXCERPT: “Gen X, of which this editor is a proud member, saved the country by voting for Donald Trump by a 53-point margin. Gen X is the generation of latchkey kids who would ride their bikes around the neighborhood until it got dark.
Attitudes toward children have certainly changed, at least in Georgia, where ABC News reports that a mother was arrested on charges of reckless conduct for letting her 10-year-old walk less than a mile from their home to the store. No, really.
Tweet: “Can you let your 10 year old son walk a mile in rural Georgia without being arrested in 2024? Apparently not…Hopefully, when it’s all over, she gets a HUGE check from the local government – it’s the only way they *may* learn.
Georgia mom was arrested after her son walked into town on his own. Brittany Patterson was charged with reckless conduct after deputies said her 10-year-old son walked less than a mile to a store from their north Georgia home.”
Video: https://x.com/Mrgunsngear/status/1857572990097174873
No, really. And there’s some nonsense about dropping the charge if she signs a safety plan that puts a GPS tracker on her son’s phone. This editor remembers walking to elementary school alone every day, and that was about a mile away. We wouldn’t have believed it had ABC News not reported on it and shown the bodycam video.
Tweets: “Screw these people. I was babysitting infants at 12-years-old. How about arresting illegal alien invaders first?”
“Walked a mile home and she gets arrested for it? Hell, when I was a child in the 70’s we walked everywhere without parental supervision.”
“Exactly. We walked to school, rode our bikes all over town, built forts, scaled the garage wall to run around on the roof, and did gobs of other unsupervised shenanigans. Granted, it’s a different world today, but this mom is definitely the victim of governmental overreach.”
“Every parent in the 80’s would be in jail”
“I used to walk about 12 miles to the local K-Mart from the trailer park where we lived. With my 8 year old sister tagging along… Of course, my parents weren’t home anyway and generally had no idea where I was. Gen X… we were pretty independent.”
“Honestly she should sue the police department for enabling such an unsafe environment that her 11 year old CAN’T walk down the street without them saying it’s dangerous! That’s how ridiculous this whole thing sounds.”

Depends on whether it was after dark or late at night.
Or whether he was going to get something to eat because she had no food in the house and he didn’t have dinner.
Or after she thought he was in bed and he regularly sneaked out at night to go to the store. (like the kid who was killed by an illegal)
Or whether she was home or high on drugs.
Or a lot of things.

Architects and Architecture, Why President Trump Must Immediately Redress Executive Order 13470: Authorized “Human Experimentation”
ANALYSIS: This analysis reviews important components to introduce new ones in order to best understand why it is that President Trump must immediately redress Executive Order 13470.
Political Moonshine, Nov 17, 2024
EXCERPT: “The prioritized task list for the incoming Trump Administration to Make America Great Again is substantial following four years of unmitigated, outright and open Marxism that rode-in on an undercurrent of the same, which was decades in the making. Those rapids of destruction wrecked the country broadly and deeply and now the nation must recover, heal and move forward in accordance with the designs left by the Founding Fathers.
Unavoidably tumultuous times lay ahead assuming Trump can survive the ongoing information operations to deny the Congressional certification of the election in citation of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment on 06 Jan 25; at the same time he literally survives to make it to Inauguration Day on 20 Jan 25. If he can manage to stay alive and survive to make it through, redressing Executive Order 13470 issued in the sunset of George W. Bush’s second term should be an immediate priority and the analysis that follows explains why.
Our lens is architects and architecture – what was constructed, who constructed it, when and why? The answers to those questions consolidate into a dead horse that I have kicked over and over: China.
This analysis reviews important components to introduce new ones in order to best understand why it is that President Trump must immediately redress Executive Order 13470: 1-China, 2-Dynastic Bush & The Godfather, 3-The Intersection of ODNI & Executive Order 13470: Human Experimentation, 4-ODNI & The New Architect and 5-The Wrecking Ball.
Time is taken to extract full quotations from EO 13470 in order to validate the assertions and that makes this piece sizable. Therefore, I’m putting the cart in front of the horse with these summary findings, which appear in full context below.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARYTHE INTERSECTION OF ODNI & EXECUTIVE ORDER 13470: HUMAN EXPERIMENTATION
Executive Order 13470 was issued by George W. Bush on 30 Jul 08 in the sunset of his two-term presidency and it functions to amend Executive Order 12333 in ways to broaden the authorities of the original order from 04 Dec 81.
It says, “No agency within the Intelligence Community shall sponsor, contract for or conduct research on human subjects except in accordance with guidelines issued by the Department of Health and Human Services. The subject’s informed consent shall be documented as required by those guidelines.”CRITICAL FOR UNDERSTANDING is the caveat exception the Intelligence Community carved-out for itself to engage in “human experimentation” if that experimentation is “in accordance with guidelines issued by the Department of Health and Human Services.”
Overlay a fraudulently predicated COVID-19 “pandemic” and the introduction of experimental mRNA injections that were decades in the making and where the Department of Defense holds all of the Big Pharma contracts for mRNA, and within EO 12333 as amended by EO 13470, we can come to understand how the Intelligence Community authorized itself to experiment on the American people with a trigger mechanism it fully controlled and could pull at any time.
ODNI & THE NEW ARCHITECT …….”
