  1. Well, then….I’m up before the buttcrack of dawn! Woke up @ 3 AM – I think it was the odd, not normal noises my furnace was making – and couldn’t get back to sleep. I need to call in to have it checked. It is a VERY old system and I dread the thought of it going completely – no way I can afford to replace that! I’ve been paying for a maintenance agreement for 11 years now – common sense would say that should include an annual check-up. Nope! They only come out AFTER there is a problem, meaning I have to wait hours or sometimes days for a repairman….yet, every year, I get a notice – checkup- for $89.95! SMDH – have I said lately how much I despise corporations??!!??

    1. Morning Filly!
it’s a cold morning here!! may be time to put the second quilt on the bed…lol. (we close the vent in the bedroom in the winter. we tend to sleep better in the colder temp)
Mom also has a maintenance agreement for her heat/a/c system but her agreement is like $400! a year. but then they come out once a year and inspect and clean everything too.

      1. 38 here this morning but looking at the 20’s within the next few days. I decided to see if I could keep the red petunias going thru the winter so I moved them inside yesterday. It worked with the begonias last winter.

I pay $20.34/mo to cover my a/c and furnace but I am on the balanced payment plan so the payment is the same every month – $139.95. The only other gas appliance is my stove and it was brand new when I moved here plus I could survive easily enough w/o it. If they do need to make a repair or replace a part, that cost is covered….as long as they can find the part. The first time I had to use it, the part that was bad was excluded in that dreaded “fine print” in the contract but the repair guy was from here and I knew him from the Legion. He found a used/refurbished part somewhere for me. IDK what would have happened had that not been the case.

    1. Home for a few days and took Sally to the doctor and so drove the route between here and the Village several times this week – twice yesterday.

Passed numerous power trucks going home from S. FL. There are still about 350,000 without power down near Tampa where Hurricane Milton hit, but these guys had done their stint. The rest of the power will likely be restored this week with the help of other linemen. We had men from as far away as OK, TX and Canada during Milton, because our regional guys were still working on the consequences of Hurricane Helene in GA, FL, SC and NC.

      1. Morning GA!
I have a friend who used to be a lineman for a power company in PA. she used to go on the “missions” to restore power wherever they were asked to go. she loved it. rugged outdoor woman who didn’t mind the long hours, the outside weather or climbing the poles. she still works for the power company, but now she just reads meters. she’s bored though…lol

      2. Huh….IIRC, earlier today, on Fox, according to their reporter in FL, they were claiming that power would be restored thru-out FL by the end of today. It will take considerably longer in NC.

  2. NF: I’ve never seen eggs like this!!!

“Reminds me of the neighbor’s eggs —  They’ve got 9 or 10 Barred Rock chickens and while the eggs are large and delicious, it takes an act of Congress to get into the sonsofbitches. Once you get past the thick shell, you’ve got the membrane to deal with.”

“This dangerous Florida caterpillar is now in season. Make sure to avoid it. Venom from Puss Caterpillars can cause extreme pain”

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “It’s that time of year again. And we’re not talking about hurricane season. News 6 viewer Joel Mathis shared a picture of a fuzzy caterpillar after Hurricane Milton stormed through the area. Mathis said he found it on his fence while cleaning up debris. “Be very careful picking up debris and/or hand tools that lay in the backyard,” he wrote.

It’s a sound piece of advice, as these furry-looking “Puss Caterpillars” are actually incredibly dangerous.

According to researchers at the University of Florida, Puss Caterpillars seem to be covered in soft hairs. However, those hairs hide stiff spines attached to poison glands on the bug’s body. If a person comes in contact with these spines, they’ll break off and stick in the person’s skin, causing severe pain.

Back in 2019, Bri Oteri of Dade City said she accidentally came in contact with one of these critters when she leaned up against a wooden fence during her son’s sports practice.

“All of a sudden, I couldn’t breathe. I thought I was going to pass out — and then came the pain,” she explained at the time. “In my chest, in my entire right arm, radiating from my wrist all throughout my shoulder. The pain was so excruciating. I was hysterically crying in the hospital, pleading for the doctors and nurses to help me. Morphine didn’t even touch the pain.” …..

These caterpillars can be difficult to see, as they usually span around 2.5 cm long with grayish-brown hairs, helping them blend in with wood. This makes it even harder to see them, as they can very often be found on oaks and citrus trees.

While a prick can require medical attention, Florida’s Poison Control Center in Tampa has the following advice for those unfortunate enough to suffer a sting:

    • Place Scotch tape over the affected area and strip off repeatedly to remove the spines.
    • Apply ice packs to reduce the stinging sensation.
    • Follow up with a paste made of baking soda and water.
    • If you have a history of hay fever, asthma or allergy, or if allergic reactions develop, contact a physician immediately.

Luckily, these caterpillars don’t tend to be a year-round issue. There are only two generations of Puss Caterpillars each year in Florida: one is spring and another in fall. Just be sure to watch your step.”

    1. holy crap they got weird shit in Florida.
when i took my son to Florida (before i met hubby) one night in our hotel room, he woke me up and said mom there’s a spider on my bed. we had a small light on so he could see to go to the bathroom if he needed to. there on his bed was a spider as big as my palm! I called the front desk and the guy said oh just kill it. i answered -it’s as big as my palm! he understood i was freaking out and told me to CAPTURE IT –he’d be right up. I used the little ice bucket to drop on it. when he got to our room and saw the ice bucket on top of it, he was like how am i gonna get rid of it now? he called someone else and while one held the bucket in place, the other gathered the bedspread up and they tied it up and threw the whole thing away.
they brought a new bucket and comforter lol

    article

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is seeking to block former special prosecutor Nathan Wade from testifying before Congress, arguing he might “improperly divulge confidential information.”

In a letter released Monday to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio., the Georgia attorney said that Wade’s testimony could violate protected privileges that are upheld by the Fulton County District Attorney’s office.

“I am concerned that your demand for Mr. Wade’s testimony would force him to improperly divulge confidential information that is protected by privileges held by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office and demands that Mr. Wade violates State Bar of Georgia rules that govern conduct of attorneys,” the letter reads.

Republicans reacted angrily, suggesting a coverup. “What is she trying to hide,” the committee’s GOP majority asked on its official X account.

The letter was written on Oct. 11 and the House Judiciary Committee released it on the social media platform, X on Monday.

A GOP-led U.S. House panel subpoenaed Wade as part of an investigation into his romantic relationship with Willis. Last year Willis indicted former President Donald Trump and 18 co-defendants over their efforts to challenge the 2020 election results in Georgia.

A Trump co-defendant tried to have Willis removed upon learning she and Wade, whom she appointed as special prosecutor in the case, had a romantic relationship. Among the arguments was that Willis financially benefited from the deal, considering, in part, Wade was paying for them to take romantic vacations together out of the funds he was paid in the case.

Willis requested in the letter to Jordan that he retract his request for Wade to testify.

At least the heat IS coming on eventually, but making weird noises, like an engine spinning up…then it quits….starts again….and quits, and making other unusual clicking sounds. After 3-4 times, it finally kicks on. IDK, maybe the gas jets need to be cleaned or something. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

But it is due back by next Monday from the last person on the list so Donna will call me when it is turned in.

  11. NF: THIS is a huge part of what’s wrong with our education system!!! The other huge issue is the lack of parental involvement/supervision.

“Balanced Intelligence and Knowledge: How Education Trains You to Miss What is Right in Front of You”

    A Midwestern Doctor, Oct 15, 2024

    Story at a Glance:

•Many important types of intelligence besides “intellectual intelligence exist.” Without them, we cannot connect to our deeper wisdom and are easily lead astray. Likewise, if our intelligence remains unbalanced, our knowledge will almost always be patchy and incomplete.

•A century ago, American education was hijacked by oligarchs like Rockefeller who replaced cultivating critical thinking and deep knowledge with training widespread compliance.

•Education trains us to have a very linear form of intelligence which often misses critical details because it lacks the ability to see the broader picture. This for instance characterizes many problems in medicine.

•Those trained to have excessive left brain thinking are often challenging to have a dialog with because they are both aggressive in asserting their ideology and simultaneously incapable of seeing anything which does not prove they are right.

•This article will discuss the importance of balanced intelligence and strategies for cultivating it.

Throughout history, many different types of intelligence have been recognized (e.g., physical intelligence and coordination or emotional intelligence). In contrast, our society worships a very specific type of intellectual intelligence that as far as I know has never previously been so highly valued by a society.

In my own experience, I’ve lost count of how many people I’ve interacted with who I know are much smarter than me, yet when I compare and contrast our ability to get things done, to correctly interpret data we are exposed to, help patients, or live a happy life, I come out far ahead of them. Likewise, I’ve lost count of how smart people I’ve met who simply don’t “get it” and frequently are misled by something quite obvious.

Years ago, when I discussed these experiences with a spiritual teacher (as I was frustrated with how easily many of my medical colleagues were being misled) and was told to stop getting upset because “intelligence does not equate to being resistant to mind control.”

    Modern Education

I’ve long noticed that the educational system builds up a very specific type of intelligence and reciprocally destroys the other ones (e.g., I found the more I was “educated” the more I lost the ability to think and access the deeper capacities of my mind). Because of this, at each level of my education, I was initially an enthusiastic A student, but then become disillusioned, switched to self-study, and in many cases barely passed my classes….”

In many cases, my BF orders are delivered the day before their estimated date so hopefully this will, too. I expect that is baked into the system by Amazon. 14. “How food security is being destroyed by illegals: I’m connecting  dots based on pretty superficial information.  But I don’t think I’m wrong.

Dot 1:  Springfield, Ohio’s public health infrastructure is struggling to keep up with an influx of Haitian immigrants who are largely unvaccinated against infectious diseases and who have not received basic medical care.

Dot 2:  Many of the Haitians are working in meat processing plants or in plants making pre-packaged foods.

Dot 3:  Haitians are living in squalid conditions (not conducive to hygiene) and are being bused from place to place to work (basically human trafficking).

Dot 4:  There have been massive recalls of meats and pre-packaged foods due to listeria.

So, if you look at these all together (or as Kamala would say, holistically), then one of the other side effects of the open borders by the Harris/Biden administration is that our food chain is being poisoned. Again, I don’t think I’m wrong, but my ‘evidence’ is basically a survey of articles.” —MidwestChick

  17. EXCERPT: “While vice chairwoman of the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, former Rep. Liz Cheney used an encrypted phone app to directly and indirectly communicate around defense counsel –and possibly ethical rules — with a witness who would later change her testimony in shocking fashion, according to evidence obtained by congressional investigators and Just the News.

Cheney’s Signal communications with witness Cassidy Hutchinson on June 6, 2022 and her friend, Alyssa Farah Griffin, were recently obtained by Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., chairman of the House Administration oversight subcommittee that has identified significant problems with the original Democrat-run inquiry into the Jan. 6 incident.

The communications are now raising fresh concerns about the ethical conduct of that Democrat-run investigation. At the time of the communication, Hutchinson was represented by attorney Stefan Passantino, who told Just the News he did not authorize the contacts with Cheney and was not aware of them until contacted by Just the News

Cheney is a licensed lawyer in Washington D.C. where the DC Bar rules state unequivocally that “a lawyer shall not communicate or cause another to communicate about the subject of the representation with a person known to be represented by another lawyer in the matter, unless the lawyer has the prior consent of the lawyer representing such other person or is authorized by law or a court order to do so.”

Loudermilk told Just the News that the communications indicate that Cheney defied her ethical responsibilities and may have influenced a witness outside of her lawyer’s presence, eventually causing Hutchinson to switch lawyers.

“Our investigation has uncovered unethical back-channel communications between former Rep. Liz Cheney and Cassidy Hutchinson just before Hutchinson changed her sworn testimony,” Loudermilk said. “Not only is communicating with a witness without their attorney present unethical, it undermines the integrity of an investigation.

“As a licensed attorney , Liz Cheney would have known the ethical and legal issues with this communication,” he added. “Clearly, Cheney did not want Stefan Passantino representing Hutchinson; as shortly after Cheney and Hutchinson began communicating, Cheney convinced Hutchinson to fire Passantino, and arranged for a new attorney to represent Hutchinson pro-bono.” ……

Red State, By Neil W. McCabe | 10:49 AM on October 15, 2024

    AP Photo/Matt Rourke

EXCERPT: “[Oak, PA.] President Donald J. Trump, speaking at a town hall meeting hosted by South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, told the father and stepmother of a Cryptologist 1st Class Technician (Expeditionary Warfare Specialist), killed in Afghanistan while aboard a Chinook helicopter with the call sign Extortion 17, that he would investigate the tragedy in his first week back in the White House.

Noem told Trump that the cryptologist’s father, Charles, and stepmother, Mary Ann, were among the honored guests at the forum when the president called them up to the stage. South Dakota’s Republican governor handed the microphone to Charles.

“I would ask Mr. President–my son was killed Aug. 6, 2011, with 29 other men,” he said. There were eight Afghan personnel on the helicopter in addition to the U.S. force. “It was the single biggest loss of life in the Iraq and Afghan war,” he said.

“Twenty-two of them were Navy special warfare, and until this day, we still haven’t gotten any answers–I was wondering, I’m begging you. We would like a congressional hearing,” he said. There were 17 Navy SEALs, 15 of whom were members of SEAL Team 6.

Trump looked right at the Gold Star father. “Here’s what we’re going to do. In the first week, we will set up a commission,” said Trump, standing with the cryptologist’s father, Charles, and his stepmother, Mary Ann. “We’re going to find out because so many people in your same position want to know what happened.”

Trump said he would not commit to setting up the commission on the first day because it would be too hectic. “Not the first day because I made a lot of promises on the first day. We’re going to drill, baby drill. We’re going to close up the border. We’re going to do a lot in the first day.”

Then, Trump invited Mr. and Mrs. Strange, who, like their son, are Philadelphia natives. “We’re going to do that within the first week, so you get ready to come over to the White House—OK?”

Before the couple left the stage, the father of the petty officer, who was assigned to SEAL Team 6 and contributed to the effort to break down the intelligence collection from the May 2, 2011, raid on Osama bin Laden’s Abbottabad, Pakistan, compound, shared memory with the president, Noem, and the audience.

“I want to let America know that in June 2017, President Trump and his wife had me and my wife bring 20 Gold Stars to the White House, and he and his wife stayed the whole time,” the father said. “They had food and drinks. They did a candle ceremony for us. President Trump stood up every time [we] saluted the Gold Star parents,” he said.

The June 5, 2017, White House event was co-hosted by Lt. Gen. H. R. McMaster, the national security advisor, and Homeland Security Secretary retired Marine Gen. John F. Kelly, who lost a son in Afghanistan. First Lady Melania Trump also spoke to the guests…..”
