This is definitely an usually house, but considering it’s in California, maybe not so much, lol!

The orange-and-purple home at 45 Berryessa Way in Hillsborough, located near a stretch of Interstate 280, has been fondly admired from afar for years. Fans of the unique abode, which bears a bulbous roof and dome-like rooms, have bestowed the circa-1976 property with the “Flintstone House” sobriquet due to its cartoonish, Stone Age appearance.

Florence Fang, former publisher of the San Francisco Examiner and chairwoman for the Independent Newspaper Group, bought the house for $2.8 million in 2017.

In lieu of using it as a primary residence, Fang turned the home into an entertaining space that lives up to its nickname, adorning the exterior with a series of whimsical yet arguably gaudy accents: Tyrannosaurus rex and brontosaurus statues stand next to aliens and their UFO. Fred Flintstone can be found flanking the entryway, with his catchphrase, “Yabba Dabba Doo,” on a nearby embankment. Barney and Betty Rubble are here, too. An astronaut stands on the lawn next to oversized mushrooms in blue, red, and green. There’s also a woolly mammoth, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, and a fish, suggesting the philosophy at play was “design like no one is watching.”

But people were watching.

The city of Hillsborough filed a complaint against Fang in San Mateo Superior Court in March of this year, accusing her of ignoring several stop-work orders and making landscape modifications without planning approvals or building permits. Last year, the city even fined her $200 for what it calls “a highly visible eyesore.”

In turn, Fang countersued the city. Her attorney, Angela Alioto, accused the city’s powers that be of “treating Mrs. Fang differently because she had a dream, and because she is Chinese.”

Fang allowed reporters into her home in April for an eyebrow-cocking press conference—and a tour of her recently revamped house, inside and out.

  1. Good morning, Miss Pat.

    This is my last full day at home. Tomorrow, I reload the minivan and head back to do evening Sally care and weekend care at the Village. Still undecided about whether to move there. I was so positive the first day or so with Sally Q, then she had another outburst and bad mood. She’s very unpredictable and her bitterness and hostility are hard to reason with and change back to good will. The word ‘No’ can send her into fits of violent temper, so that she rams her wheelchair into things and gets into vile language verbal attacks. It’s very tiring. She needs a real touch from GOD to enter her heart and comfort, fill her with joy and peace instead of anger and selfish hardheadedness.

    About that weird Wednesday house and grounds – the whole place with all the toys and items to appeal to children, gives me some feelings of uncertainty – hopefully someone is watching it to be sure how it is used for ‘entertaining’ and to be sure children aren’t invited there alone without a safe chaperone….

    Weather her over the weekend and next week as far as the weather predictions go – is supposed to be rain-rain-rain and there are several storms to watch in Hurricane Alley. I check the Tropics – http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/cyclones/ and Windy.com often.

      I cannot imagine dealing with what you’re dealing with. my first husband (not by choice) was a drug addict–heroin. it was like he had a split personality. off the drug he was quiet, respectful and easy to be with. but when he did heroin, he also drank. the drug got him high, the drink mellowed him out.
      he was vile and abusive and disgusting. and i never knew which one was coming thru the door.
      i could and finally DID walk away…but you can’t. it’s got to be 1,000 times worse than what i went thru. You and Sally are always in my prayers GA!

But then far too many of these people swimming in money haven’t the slightest bit of common sense. Nipply again this morning but a little warmer than yesterday @ 59. Possible rain late today, into the evening. Usual routine with Wheezer this morning.

    3. Afternoon, all, from cloudy Savannah. This is the first spot I’ve found to reply. I agree about the Flintstone house. It’s cute to look at, but looks very uncomfortable for living. But I don’t have a spare 2.4 milion dollars to invest in a property that attracts the bad vibes of the local government. I can piss off local government much more inexpensively than that.

We actually spent more time deactivating most of his animatronics. Now he just sits there, seemingly dead except for the rise and fall of his abdomen to show that he’s breathing.”

    At the attraction’s grand re-opening, fans gushed when they saw the reimagined Joe Biden in action.

    “Wow! He doesn’t do anything — just like the real president!” said Disney World annual pass holder Steph Demetria after seeing the more realistic Joe Biden. “Uncanny!”

    At publishing time, Donald Trump’s animatronic was also updated to perform his signature dance and given a realistic bullet wound in his ear.

    When he was playing football in the 2nd grade, he caused a fuss because only the boys who were, in his words, “bad” boys (IOW, the ones who made all the yards and touchdowns but also broke some rules along the way) were the ones getting all the awards…..well, yea-ah – results matter, after all! No, that wasn’t acceptable – he petitioned for an award for those kids who didn’t cause any problems and were just mediocre…..he was the first winner of the now-annual “Good Boy” award!!! For just doing what was required to pass…..no more….SMH

    1. there’s an axiom is finance…the bigger the risk, the bigger the gain.
      you can invest in a savings account and plod along and make a minimal gain every year or you can invest in something that is riskier but will net you larger gains. the key to the choice is your age of course.

    Patriots! Beware of Talking Points and Bill Summaries – they lie. The so-called “SAVE” Act does the opposite of what you’ve been told. Under the “SAVE” Act, the children born here of the 10 to 40 Million invaders (CCP, Islamists, etc.) will be US Citizens entitled to vote in OUR federal elections. The “SAVE” Act provides that the requirements for voting in our federal elections are that one have a government issued ID Card (this is to ultimately force us into the egregious “REAL ID” card) and a birth certificate showing that one was born in the United States.       My thought in listening to Rep. Roy was that finally he was doing something right. I found the summary of the bill and sent it to my group lists thinking for the first time Roy was on the right track. I was wrong, but let me explain why I have never trusted the man. He is promoting Mark Meckler’s Convention of States which is funded by the Koch organizations, Heritage Foundation, American Legislative Exchange Council and more. See my recent article. Roy is a close friend of Byron Donalds, who is also backing a new Article V Constitutional Convention. Last October, when a new House Speaker was being considered, Roy nominated Donalds whose top aide and best friend, Larry Wilcoxson, is a felon with a long list of criminal activities.

      After I sent the SAVE Act info to my group lists, I received an email from Joanna Martin telling me that I’d better read the full bill and not just the summary because the full bill is poison. Joanna knows what she’s talking about. She’s a retired attorney and a retired Army JAG officer. I just read the full bill and was gob smacked. All bills are written in legalese which makes life difficult for the common man, but when Joanna tells me a bill is rotten, I listen because she’s been proven right time and again.

      She clarified this bill for me in easy-to-understand layman’s language.

        But the SAVE Act violates Section 1 of the 14th Amendment because it provides that anyone born here is a “US Citizen” and will be eligible to vote in federal elections. So, the children of those 10 to 40 million illegals who have invaded our Country would be eligible to vote in all federal elections. The child of the French ambassador and his Wife would be eligible to vote here – and I expect under French law, the child would be eligible to vote in France as well. 

        (Just like Dr. Mehmet Oz is a citizen of Turkey and America and votes in both countries.)

        So, the SAVE Act isn’t about prohibiting non-citizens from voting – what it really does is to make US citizens out of everybody who is born in the United States. All the Islamists and CCP males who breach our borders – their children would be “US Citizens” and eligible to vote. That’s the “hidden” agenda behind the SAVE Act.  

        I expect that most people supporting the SAVE Act have no idea what it really does. But I assure you that whoever drafted this nasty bit of poison knew exactly what it would do.

    “A suspect is in custody after a shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, that occurred on Wednesday and casualties have been reported, according to the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office. A local hospital is “treating multiple gunshot wounds,” a source told ABC News.

    Senior Sergio Caldera, 17, said he first heard gunshots inside the school at 11 a.m. “My teacher goes and opens the door to see what’s going on. Another teacher comes running in and tells her to close the door because there’s an active shooter,” Caldera said, according to the ABC report.

    Caldera said that he witnessed someone pounding on the classroom door and shouting “open up!” repeatedly. He heard gunshots and screams after the knocking stopped.

    “I have directed all available state resources to respond to the incident at Apalachee High School and urge all Georgians to join my family in praying for the safety of those in our classrooms, both in Barrow County and across the state,” Gov. Brian Kemp, R-Ga., said in a statement on X.

    The Federal Bureau of Investigation is reportedly on-site at the school.”

    1. I believe 1835 was the year Andrew Jackson refused to renew the contract for the first central bank. The US didn’t get another central bank until the Federal Reserve Act was passed in 1913, after the income tax was approved to pay for future public debt. (such as WWI).

    De Santis knows his career in politics is over so he thought he’d pad his bank account by screwing over everyone in his path by selling Florida state park land to developers. The supposed plans done in secret of course were so egregious cartographer James Gaddis had to come forward. The public outcry was swift and not friendly, the developers backed off, De Santis slunk away into Casey’s arms, and Gaddis is now without employment. His Go Fund Me page now has over $100K.

    Next Hurricane needs to be named Ronald, it destroys everything in its path.

  36. just got off the phone with Mom…she getting inundated with people calling and asking if she’s selling her house. one lady told her she’s seen mom’s house and it’s so cute. (it’s not) it’s a little cape cod with 2 sheds in the back yard. and there’s a rickety ramp my brother was given years ago from a buddy that he put up for her. she never uses it. BUT it’s on a big corner lot in a good school district. some developer would love to get a hold of that lot.

      1. no, she’d never move. she can’t go upstairs–narrow, steep steps anyway…and nothing up there but 2 spare rooms
        she can’t go in the basement–same step situation–and there’s Dad’s workshop down there.
        everything she needs is on one floor and accessible.
        and her brother lives next door and my brother is 5 minutes away.
