Meet the American bison

The American bison takes the top prize for the largest land mammal in North America. Adult males weigh in at up to 2,000 pounds and stand as tall as six feet high at the shoulder.

These titans of North America are grazers, matriarchal-led family groups ranging from tens to thousands of buffalo. As they move across the prairie, they selectively focus on the grasses and sedges avoiding most of the forbs and legumes which helps balance the floristic competition. They sometimes wallow, which among many benefits helps mitigate biting insects and is also a social behavior thought to be a sign of contentment. These wallows create shallow depressions in the dense prairie which provide microhabitats to insects and amphibians among others to complete their reproductive cycles.

Bison life cycle and reproduction

Male bison reach sexual maturity at 6 years old and females at 3 years old. They mate once each year from July up to September. During the mating season, also called the rut, bulls (males) will fight aggressively by ramming their heads together and charging at one another for a chance to mate with a cow (female).

After a nine-month gestation period, cows give birth to a single calf each spring. You can typically see mothers with young calves beginning in April.

It’s worth noting here that female bison weigh up to 1,000 pounds and run just as fast as the males at 40 miles per hour.

Bison are very protective of their young and as a group do their best to protect them from any dangers. When visiting a TNC preserve—or any preserve—where bison are present, it’s best to give them the space and respect they deserve, for your safety and for theirs.

Wait… Are they bison or buffalo?

Yes! Both terms have important scientific and historical meanings and use, and both continue to be used today to refer to the official mammal of the United States. There are also hundreds of words from Indigenous languages that have been used for thousands of years. Words like: “tatanka” or “pte” in Lakota and “yanasi” in Cherokee.

Genetically speaking, the American bison is not akin to either the water buffalo of Asia or the Cape buffalo of Africa. The American bison are found only in North America and certain parts of Europe.

Oceans apart in their range, the physical appearance of the American bison is vastly different from water buffalo and Cape buffalo. Developing on different continents means they encountered different conditions including climate, which influenced the evolution of their bodies and behavior.

Protecting the American Bison

Millions of bison once lived and traveled across huge sections of North America. At one point, you could see these icons of the prairie from Canada all the way south to Mexico and even as far east and west as the coasts.

But as American settlers developed and expanded, the U.S. government encouraged settlers to slaughter millions of these animals, bringing bison and the Indigenous communities that relied upon the herds to near extinction in the early 20th century.

At the end of this brutality, tribal communities were decimated, and less than 1,000 free-roaming bison remained in the world.

Today, about 500,000 bison live in the U.S. and can be found in all 50 states. However, most of these bison are privately owned and raised as livestock. Only a small fraction of this number includes bison who are living in conservation herds and even much less than that are bison who are roaming on large landscapes. There are no truly free-roaming bison left in North America.

The Nature Conservancy collectively is one of the largest bison producers with over 6,000 bison living on 12 preserves we own and manage in the United States.

  2. Good morning! I woke up to 75 and fog so thick, it is dripping off my patio screens! Wheezer was in the chair, as usual – he acts like he wants me to pet him, then pulls his head back, like he’s going to bite, when I start to do so. And always that front paw comes up – IDK if that’s a threat or his feral male attempt to bring my hand closer but those claws are TOO sharp!!! My hand is soooo much better now – almost no swelling at all and nowhere near as painful, with only a small swath of redness directly around the puncture. Hope Pat is enjoying her family week-end!

    Yesterday marked a historic day and major shift in the most important campaign in American history. Yesterday, Bobby Kennedy – sworn enemy of big pharma and CIA corruption – joined team MAGA. He did not give a blanket endorsement of everything Trump stands for but he did stand with him on the stage and endorse him for President. To me this was incredible.

    On a very personal level, the fight for health freedom is truly the fight for all freedom. I was red pilled in 2020 when I watched the corruption that was COVID unfold first-hand. I was studying COVID as a lawyer working on an extra Masters degree and could not miss the lies Fauci and the rest of HHS were spewing about it.

    I was also aware that these lies were very cleverly crafted and that it would be nearly impossible for most people to see them unless they just happened to be studying the disease as deeply as I was. So I woke up. I fought. And if you’re reading this newsletter you are probably aware of the rest of my story (feel free to read my early articles if you want a refresher).

    If you’re reading this newsletter and follow my work you have probably also heard me say that my work was possible because I stood on the shoulders of giants. Bobby was amongst them. Bobby fought for health freedom long before COVID and long before it was an issue. He stood against an industry that was the darling of the democrat political establishment despite the fact that he came from a family of democrat royalty. This took courage and – if you see the shameful letter from his family – you will see that courage is apparently not a trait shared entirely by his family.

    It was incredibly sad for me to see cowardly Kathleen Kennedy Townsend and her ilk rip a man who put principle above all. Bobby represents the courage his father and uncle manifested while the rest of the crew has demonstrated that they are the same sort of sellouts that make a majority of the DNC today. I am certain Bobby would not say this but I’d go so far as to suggest that these people are the same types of sellouts that looked the other way when the CIA assassinated JFK and RFK senior… it takes courage to confront evil and these people don’t have it.

    And though I recognize that it isn’t my position to interfere with family business, it is absolutely my right as an American to condemn people that put party before principle and to recognize a group of entitled leftists that have earned nothing for themselves while having the audacity to attack someone that has spent much of his life fighting on principle.

    I think this reaction is important because it represents the desperation of the sellout left. No matter how patently obvious it is that the Harris Walz ticket will likely lead to a true and perhaps final collapse of the American experiment, these people will do anything they have to to protect their privileged existence (that – in the case of the Kennedy clan was clearly not earned). These people are afraid of Bobby and his endorsement because it represents closure on the most important demographic of this election – the health freedom demographic.

    I talk to a lot of pundits and they frequently try to convince me that “polling shows people don’t care about COVID or health freedom anymore.” A minimum of 25% of Americans lost jobs, friends, and even family over their refusal to be experimented on with mRNA COVID jabs. A huge and ever-growing number regretted getting whatever jabs they got. At this point, the number of people excited about mRNA poisons is best represented by the low single-digit uptake of the endless boosters still being pushed out.

    The idea that these people no longer care about losing their jobs or the people close to them over these lies is not only absurd, it simply defies logic. It also rings untrue in light of some of their excitement about Bobby joining the team. For quite some time I’ve been arguing to anyone that would listen that the COVID vaccines and health freedom (including poisoning our food) would represent the largest single-issue swing voting block in American history. I’m eager to see updated polling to see exactly how right I was.

    More importantly, Bobby’s campaign and new-found potential position in the Trump administration mark a critical changing point in American history. The deep state is what is really on the ballot this fall. Trump is rightly upset about the deep state persecution he’s suffered (potentially including the failed assassination attempt) and Bobby already lost his father and uncle to the same people (this is an opinion peace – no I cannot prove this but lets be real). If these guys get in it will be the best opportunity in modern American industry to actually seize power from the deep state and the lobbyists.

    The United States of America is at risk. The union of Trump and Kennedy will unite the right and the middle. This ticket is not only politically powerful, it is headed up by a union of people that truly understand the nefarious and treacherous nature of the deep state. Donald Trump finally has someone in his circle that is not and will not be bought off by big pharma.

    For my part, I feel hope and inspiration like I have not felt in some time. America has a chance. We the people have a chance. Our children have a chance. Now we just need to come together to beat the inevitable upcoming election fraud and ensure the mainstream and corporate oligarchs cannot spread enough lies to disenfranchise Americans. We got this.”

    ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Hunter Biden may be shamelessly corrupt, but there’s more than one way to skin a fleecing-the-taxpayers cat, and in an op-ed published Friday by the New York Post, the writers claim that Kamala Harris’ brother-in-law Tony West may have found a whole new way to define “corrupt.” (The bio on the article states that one of the writers, Daniel Huff, “is a former counsel to the Senate and House Judiciary Committees,” while “Clark S. Judge is managing director of the White House Writers Group, Inc.”)

    If Kamala Harris wins the White House, her brother-in-law, Tony West, who is married to her sister Maya, is poised to claim the crooked crown.

    Like Hunter, West learned his craft in the Obama years. 

    Then head of the Justice Department’s Civil Division, he invented a new form of what 19th-early 20th centuries Tammany boss George Washington Plunkett famously called “Honest Graft.”

    It was simple.

    Until 1977, Congress had to approve any settlement of a civil suit against the Federal government over $100,000.

    That seems appropriate; a civil suit, should the government lose, requires the disbursement of funds – and Congress, especially the House of Representatives, holds the purse; indeed, all spending bills must originate in the House. That’s the law. But this changed in 1977:

    This preserved the Constitutional requirement that Congress control the government’s purse. 

    But in that year, seeking relief from the burgeoning volume of suits to review, Congress removed the cap, handing the Justice Department a permanent blank check to pay settlements unilaterally, in any amount, out of an account known as the Judgment Fund.

    Run by the Treasury Department, the Judgment Fund’s secrecy is so complete that our often-penetrated CIA might study it for lessons. 

    With me so far? Here’s where it gets interesting:

    The limited data released omits recipients, the facts underlying the case, and often the lawyers involved.

    By statute, attorneys’ fees awarded need not be disclosed. 

    A Government Accountability Office study concluded that “no one knows the number of claims processed by the federal government each year.”

    Still, for three decades, the integrity of Justice’s officials sufficed to prevent abuse. 

    Then, in 2009, Tony West took over the department’s Civil Division, the division that litigates and settles lawsuits. 

    Once West arrived, his deputy emailed colleagues asking “can you explain to Tony the best way to allocate some money toward an organization of our choosing?”

    Settlements became the vehicle for paying off political allies.

    Huff and Judge have some receipts.

    OK, that’s a lot of text, but the writers raise an interesting point. If they are correct in how this is done, there’s potential here that billions – billions of dollars may have been funneled to Democrat candidates, supporters, and donors. And here’s the catch; that 1977 change in the law means it may actually be legal.

    There are a million-and-one reasons to kick Kamala Harris and as many Democrats as possible out of office in November as possible. If proven to be true, this is one more for the list. What Huff and Judge are describing is not just a loophole in the law; you would have a hard time convincing me that it wasn’t a trapdoor put there deliberately for precisely this sort of thing.

    And there are groups – the ACLU, among others – whose entire business model seems to be filing lawsuits against the federal, state, and local governments. The only amazing bit is that until Tony West took over, things were pretty above board, as the authors of the piece linked above claim.

    Politicians and political people, especially Democrats, being what they are, it’s amazing it took anyone this long to figure this out. Ordinary crooks, when they set out to rob a citizen, use a gun or a knife, but top-tier crooks use lawyers – and of the two, the lawyers are far more dangerous.”

Just The News: “Boeing Starliner astronauts who have been stranded in space for 80 days won’t be able to come back until 2025, NASA officials said Saturday. Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams won’t return to Earth until February. The Starliner will come back unmanned next month, according to the New York Post. 

    The astronauts who were only expected to be attached to the International Space Station for eight days, have been stranded in space since June. Boeing’s Starliner capsule encountered thruster failures and helium leaks that required the spaceship to be docked at the ISS while engineers evaluated a new computer model for the thrusters. 

    According to NASA administrator Bill Nelson, the decision to wait until February to bring the astronauts home was based on a “commitment to safety.” Wilmore and Williams will return, according to NASA officials, as part of a SpaceX Dragon Crew-9 mission.”

    Just The News: “Two former presidents of a major trade union along with five others were indicted Wednesday for allegedly being involved in a $20 million embezzlement scheme.

    Seven people total, including five current and former high-level officers of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmith, Forgers and Helpers (Boilermakers Union), were indicted by a federal grand jury in Kansas. They have been charged with offenses under the RICO Act, healthcare fraud and theft regarding retirement and healthcare plans, according to the Department of Justice. This scheme has allegedly been ongoing for 15 years. 

    The defendants are former union presidents Newton Jones, 71, and Truman “Warren” Fairley, 59. Others indicted had or maintained high level positions at the union. 

    “Union members pay their dues believing union leaders will use the money in support of the organization’s mission to advocate for and protect employment rights,” U.S. Attorney Kate E. Brubacher for the District of Kansas said. “The Department of Justice is deeply concerned whenever there are accusations of fraud and misappropriation of union funds.”

    Special Agent in Charge Stephen A. Cyrus of the FBI Kansas City Field Office added, “By allegedly unlawfully misappropriating Union funds, the defendants betrayed their members’ trust and confidence. Anyone who unlawfully profits at the expense of others will be held accountable.”

    Among the embezzlement charges alleged in the indictment are:

    Millions of dollars in cash payments relating to fraudulently claimed vacation time; Over $5 million in unnecessary luxury international travel; Over $2 million in salary and benefits to Kateryna Jones and Cullen Jones for no-show jobs.”

    ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Democrats ended their four-day convention on Thursday with a vacuous speech by the party’s installed candidate, Kamala Harris. Her short stint on the main stage made the regime media, which has blessed her with 84 percent positive news coverage since the Pelosi coup according to one analysis, drunk with joy.

    Harris, like the roster of speakers before her, spent most of the speech demonizing her general election opponent and repeating one of the party’s most consistent campaign themes: Donald Trump will use his authority to vanquish his foes should he return to the White House. “Consider…his explicit intent to jail journalists, his political opponents, and anyone he sees as the enemy,” Harris claimed.

    Other DNC speakers similarly warned that a Trump presidency would result in the mass arrest and incarceration of Democrats. Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow warned that Trump “would be able to weaponize the Department of Justice to go after his political opponents.” McMorrow, who must have missed the news of the armed nine-hour raid of Mar-a-Lago in August 2022, further insisted Trump would “turn the FBI into his own personal police force.”

    “That is not how it works in America. That’s how it works in dictatorships!” McMorrow shouted.

    Now, one can agree with McMorrow and others that the full weight of the federal government’s law enforcement operation should not be used to settle political scores. That sort of thing is indeed the stuff of banana republics. And it is exactly what’s been happening in America since January 2021.

    Not only did the DOJ and FBI open criminal investigations into Donald Trump resulting in two unprecedented federal indictments against a former president, the Biden/Garland/Monaco DOJ prosecuted and imprisoned two of Trump’s longtime confidantes—Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon, who is currently behind bars in Connecticut—and assisted other politically-motivated prosecutions against Trump in New York and Georgia.

    The Threat of Attorney General Matthew Graves

    Further, the prosecution of Americans who protested Joe Biden’s election on January 6 is active and ongoing. During the course of the DNC convention, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Matthew Graves announced the arrest of seven individuals for their participation in the Capitol protest more than three-and-a-half years ago. (At least half reside in swing states including North Carolina, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, an effective way to keep the “insurrection” in the headlines.)

    And as Graves gradually closes in on his promised caseload of 2,000 J6ers—his latest press release boasts that “more than 1,488 individuals have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol”—the impeachment report released this week by House Republicans confirmed that Graves refused to consider prosecuting Hunter Biden for tax evasion, something whistleblowers disclosed to Congress last year.

    Special Counsel David Weiss asked Graves in early 2022 to partner with his office in bringing charges against Hunter Biden for tax crimes committed in Washington in 2014 and 2015; a decision needed to be made quickly as the statute of limitations was about to expire. But Graves rejected Weiss’ request. 

    “On March 19, 2022, Graves met with five or six members of his office…where they decided not to partner with Weiss’s office on prosecuting the Hunter Biden case.” As a result of that decision, the report noted, “Weiss was unable to bring charges in D.C.”

    Now that sort of brazen bootlicking does not go unrewarded in the nation’s capital, which is precisely why Graves is very likely Harris’ top candidate for attorney general if she wins in November. 

    And Graves’ cover-up of the Biden family crime racket and the continued prosecution of J6ers aren’t the only reasons why Harris would choose Graves.

    All in the Commie Family

    Harris appears to be close to Graves’ wife, Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the far-left National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), a $100 million nonprofit headquartered in Washington. According to White House visitor logs, Goss Graves has met with or attended events hosted by Harris on numerous occasions since her husband took the reins of the most powerful U.S. Attorney’s office in the country. (Logs also indicate Graves was at the Biden White House six times in March 2022 including a one-on-one meeting with one of Biden’s senior public engagement advisors at the same time her husband was figuring out how to avoid working with Weiss on the Hunter Biden matter.)

    The bond between both families is strong. Meena Harris, Kamala’s niece, serves on the NWLC board of directors. And Matthew Graves worked at DLA Piper law firm in Washington at the same time as Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.

    They also share the same radical worldview. Goss Graves’ racially oriented organization promotes unlimited abortion, transgender rights including allowing boys to compete in girls’ sports, and mandatory income, housing, child care, and health insurance government supports.

    Last year, NWLC launched a program called “Tax the Patriarchy.” The plan identified nearly $3 trillion in new taxes to be spent on a wishlist of redistributive government policies including $650 billion (yes billion) over ten years on “baby bonds,” which would “[invest] money in savings accounts for children from low-income families would combat wealth inequality to benefit those who have historically been left out of wealth-building opportunities like homeownership and higher education.”

    But the issue near and dear to Goss Graves’ heart is dismantling the Supreme Court, more specifically, removing Justice Clarence Thomas. She is part of a broad coalition demanding Thomas’ resignation and peddling propaganda about his “ethics” violations. Goss Graves has worked with Senator Sheldon Whitehouse on Supreme Court matters; Whitehouse sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland last month asking for a special counsel to investigate Thomas.

    An Accelerated EU-Style Crackdown on Free Speech

    Given his record of doing Democrats’ dirty work in the U.S. Attorney’s office, one can easily imagine Graves using the attorney general’s office to realize the unhinged fever dreams of his wife and his boss, Kamala Harris. Would Attorney General Matthew Graves investigate and prosecute conservative Supreme Court justices in an effort to force them to step down?

    Would Attorney General Matthew Graves accelerate the criminalization of free speech, an issue Robert F. Kennedy Jr. warned of in his history-making address to the nation on Friday? Would Attorney General Matthew Graves go after private companies who refuse to enforce “woke” policies related to race, gender, and income equality?

    Would Attorney General Matthew Graves jail journalists and social media influencers who defied the Harris regime? Would Attorney General Matthew Graves arrest Elon Musk for promoting “disinformation” or something similar to what happened on Saturday to Telegram founder Pavel Durov? After all, Graves’ prosecutors routinely cite inflammatory social media posts as evidence of wrongdoing in J6 cases.

    Would Attorney General Matthew Graves continue to protect the political corruption of Democrats as he did in the Hunter Biden case?

    The answer to all of the above is yes. Which is why Attorney General Matthew Graves is a terrifying prospect—and a very realistic scenario if Kamala Harris is elected in November.”

Malone: “Forgive me for injecting a serious note, but for those that aren’t on X or didn’t see the quickly removed news story on MSM – below is the latest on the arrest of Pavel Durov…The issue of free speech matters deeply, and so his arrest is of upmost importance to those of us freedom fighters worldwide.

    France has arrested Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, at an airport when he stepped off of his private jet briefly during a lay-over flight. The charges appear to be aiding and abetting in global drug trafficking, pedophilia and fraud. One rumor has it that they are actually charging him with these crimes because he refuses to censor Telegram as much as Frog officials would like. To be clear, Telegram is moderated – just not to their “Westernized” standards.

    Personally, I don’t use Telegram, as it has many fraudsters, grifting, trollery and the like. But that is my choice. I appreciate that if people want to go there and experience that kind of sordid online experience – that is their choice. That this is what freedom of speech truly is. The good, the bad and the frankly, disgusting.

    A second rumor (or certainly Mike Benz) speculates that this arrest that has been done at the request of the US Government, who is furious that Mr. Durov refuses to give them a back-door encryption key to Telegram (so they know exactly who and where messages and posts are coming from). Of note, Russia is also pressuring Mr. Durov, for many years now, who ended up fleeing his homeland and is in exile from that country.

    MOSCOW (Reuters) – Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Sunday that Pavel Durov, the Russian-born founder of the Telegram messaging app, miscalculated by fleeing Russia (in 2018) and thinking that he would never have to cooperate with the security services abroad.

    Medvedev related a conversation he had with Durov several years ago in which Medvedev told him that if he did not want to cooperate with law enforcement agencies then he would have problems in any country.

    In an interview in April, 2024, Tucker Carlson interviewed Mr. Durov.

    The FBI also hired agents to infiltrate ‘anti-vaxx’ Telegram groups, with FBI contractors creating multiple fake online identities to join chatrooms run by groups opposing vaccine mandates

    Telegram founder Pavel Durov recently revealed to Tucker Carlson that the FBI approached a Telegram engineer, attempting to secretly hire him to install a backdoor that would allow U.S. intelligence agencies to spy on users.

    The disturbing element in all of this for me is that in the video above, Pavel is discussing how the FBI was (is?) using agents and contractors to infiltrate “anti-vax” groups. More evidence that the “insider” hate that some of us experience within the medical freedom groups – truly is coming from our own government (or in this case, the FBI). Something I have long suspected and have written about and discussed in many interviews. The repeated accusation of “controlled opposition” is a specific tactic for sowing division which the FBI developed and deployed during the 1960s protest movements.

    Once again, this clearly demonstrates that the FBI was engaging in PsyWar during the COVIDcrisis to support Biden/Harris agendas. Mike Benz speculates that the US State Dept. is involved, and has been putting pressure on France to take this action. That this is a multi nation effort to get Telegram to comply. His thoughts on the matter are linked here.

    In an interesting twist, rumors are now circulating on X that Russia with working to free Mr. Durov. One has to wonder whether Russia may be acting as the good cop here, as they also want that encryption key…

    As I am in an airplane traveling back from Mexico City today, I am actually relieved to have passed through security without issues. Frankly, I am sickened by Pavel Durov’s arrest. The fact that our government, that is the Biden/Harris administration, was and is involved should scare us all senseless. It also means that France is another unsafe country to travel to or even through. But what does this mean for America?

    At CPAC-Mexico, many of us discussed just how frightening a Kamala Harris win in November would be. Harris is an attorney who has spent much of her career as a prosecutor. She has proven herself to not be above targeting Conservatives and groups that she personally does not like. She has a history of doing this in her various positions as prosecutor, San Fran district attorney, CA Attorney General, Senator and VP.

    This is not a person to underestimate. Under a Harris/Walz administration, we can expect the Department of Justice, which falls directly under the supervision of the President, to be continue to be weaponized as it has been under the Biden/Harris White House.

    In the past, Harris targeted conservative groups such as the Americans for Prosperity and American Freedom Law Center.     So, with the DoJ and the IRS so weaponized under a potential Harris Presidency, those of us who have spoken out about the jab, medical freedom, PsyWar, etc., or were involved in a protest movement or a rally, can expect more harassment and prosecution from the federal government.     This is a near-term dark future that may await us all after January 20, 2025. It frankly fills me with fear and loathing for what is to come. What transpired in France yesterday with the arrest of Mr. Durov is another signpost that the Biden/Harris administration is off the rails, and the American people will suffer greatly if Harris is elected President.

    “They quit because they are literally overdosing on joy,” Harris explained. “Almost no one on earth can stand being around this much joy for more than a few weeks. It’s my cross to bear.”

    Despite her proclamations, anonymous reports have surfaced that Harris actually has a tendency to be viciously hostile and impossible to work with. “That’s just how some people describe joy,” explained Harris. “It’s so much joy, they don’t even know how to express it. There is just this giant ball of overwhelming joy and it creates a joyful work environment full of joyous joy. Some people’s brains don’t know how to handle it.”

    However, former Kamala staffer Carol Eggerton explained there is more to the story. “I quit because she screamed for twenty minutes like a demon because she thought I didn’t get a second pump of cream in her coffee,” said Eggerton. “I’ll never forget when she hurled that scorching hot latte in my face and hollered ‘THIS DOES NOT BRING ME JOY YOU MONKEY-FACED HALFWIT!’”

    I can report that we only saw 1 Harris sign ( not Harris/Walz) and several Trump signs. In the middle of PA, there were numerous large signs in fields…FARMERS FOR TRUMP.

    the one cackler sign was in a very liberal section of town where mom lives. when the maggot was running against President Trump, there were many maggot signs all along that street, now? just the one.
