Interesting Clouded Leopard Facts
1 Clouded leopards are not leopards
Despite the name, clouded leopards are actually not a type of leopard, but are a separate species entirely, just like a snow leopard. They are not that closely related and in a different genus ‘Neofelis’. True leopards are in the genus Panthera, alongside tigers, lions, jaguars and the snow leopard.

2 They are named for the distinctive ‘clouds’ on their coats
The coats of clouded leopards are covered in irregular spots and patches of a pale grey/brown color surrounded by a darker edge or line. These cloud-like blotches are what give the animal their common name of clouded leopard. In Malaysia, the clouded leopard is known as the ‘tree tiger’, while in China they are named the ‘mint leopard’, because the patches on their coats resemble mint leaves.
3 They have the largest teeth to body size
Clouded leopards have the biggest canine teeth – in proportion to their body size – of any wild cat; almost resembling the now extinct sabretooth. With sizes up to 2 inches in length, their canine teeth are the same size as a tiger’s, despite being 10 times smaller in body size. Their large, sharp teeth aid their excellent hunting skills.

4 Clouded leopards can descend trees headfirst
Their strong and stocky legs are equipped with rotating ankles which allow varied climbing positions and therefore enable clouded leopards to quickly and agilely scale up and down trees headfirst – like squirrels. They are also able to climb while hanging upside-down beneath the branches, and even to hang only from their back feet in order to snatch prey with their front legs.
5 The clouded leopard may be the most ancient of the big cats
Recent studies have indicated that the clouded leopard was the first species of the Pantherinae family to branch from the other members – over 6 million years ago. This would make the clouded leopard the most ancient feline of all modern cat species.
6 The clouded leopard cannot roar or purr
These cats have a different structure of bones in their neck which means they lack the ability to roar like the other big cats. They also lack the hyoid bone which enables small cats to purr. The clouded leopard’s alternative communication methods include high-pitched meow calls, hissing, growling and chuffing.
7 Clouded leopards have an extreme gape

They are able to open their mouths extremely wide – to around 100 degrees. This is another feature that assists their hunting, and gives them the ability to take down larger prey.
8 Clouded leopards are strong swimmers
Somewhat surprisingly, given the common acceptance that cats hate water, clouded leopards are very confident swimmers. It is thought that this may be how they populated small islands off the coast of Vietnam and Borneo.
9 Their eyes are unique
In contrast to other cats, clouded leopards’ pupils never enlarge to a fully round shape like big cats nor to a thin slit like small cats. Instead, their pupils are constantly an oblong shape.

10 Clouded leopards have some reproductive challenges
Although most cats are considered induced ovulators (meaning that the act of copulation induces ovulation), it has not been possible to determine whether this is the case for the clouded leopard, as the females are able to spontaneously ovulate – however this is generally considered to be intermittent. Their ovulation being so unpredictable can cause some challenges for reproduction in this species, when coupled with the fact that around 70% of the males have malformed sperm.
In human care, artificial insemination has been used with sporadic success. It has also proved to be a challenge to find compatible mates for reproduction, as there is a high level of aggression seen between males and females of the same age.
11 Clouded leopards are considered to bridge the gap between big cats and small cats
All cat species are related to the same family of Felidae, but genetics have shown that the clouded leopard is more closely related to big cat species. However, due to its small stature, the clouded leopard is often described as filling the gap between big and small in the feline world: they are bigger than small cats and smaller than big cats!
12 The population of the clouded leopard declined rapidly in the 20th century
This is due entirely to human action from poaching and deforestation destroying their habitat.
Sadly, the clouded leopard is thought to be locally extinct in Singapore, Taiwan, Hainan Island and Vietnam. The clouded leopard is listed in CITES Appendix I and protected over most of its range with hunting banned, although bans are poorly enforced in some countries and poaching continues.

Morning, Pat! Humid again and already 72, not even a slight breeze and skies cloudy – I expect those will burn off later. Predictions call for low 90’s today and tomorrow, then only 78 on Tuesday w/rain moving in Wednesday and Thursday. Wheezer was waiting again – I’ll never buy the generic Chestnut Hill brand of chunk light tuna in water again – half of the can is water! And apparently not very appetizing since she left some in the dish this time – she usually eats every scrap! SMH

I’d tell my neighbor: “Don’t look at him then!” Pffttt….I didn’t have to do any “cooking” when I worked at the EcoLux in Norfolk – we had self-serve breakfasts. The hardest part of it was cleaning the waffle iron when people spilled the batter all over the place! But I rarely worked in the morning anyway – I worked the late shift. I got to do the laundry, which is where I learned how to fold fitted sheets standing up!

finally the koran explained.
entire article
Globally, protesters have supported the Muslims who kidnapped, murdered, mutilated, raped, and tortured hundreds of individuals in Israel on October 7, 2023. To understand what they supported, we need to examine the Koran, the foundation of Islam.
Muslims believe that the Koran has always existed in heaven on a stone tablet and that before Muhammad, every community received the Koran. From 610 to 632, the Angel Gabriel again revealed the verses of the Koran to Muhammad. When a verse was revealed, it was called a revelation.
The foundation of Islam is dependent on the answer to the question, “Did the stone tablet always exist, or did Muhammad create the revelations on an as-needed basis?” One way to address the question is by examining how the Koran assisted Muhammad with his sex life.
Muhammad had a male slave named Zayd, whom he freed and adopted, proclaiming Zayd his son. Later, when Muhammad wanted his followers to abandon Arab customs and replace them with Islamic beliefs, Muhammad told Zayd and Zaynab to get married. Before Islam, it would have been unthinkable for a lower-class former slave, such as Zayd, to marry an upper-class woman, such as Zaynab. And whereas Zayd was unskilled and unattractive, Zaynab was accomplished and beautiful. Because of their differences, neither wanted to get married. However, a revelation [1] stated that when Muhammad “decreed a matter,” Muslims had no choice except to obey.
With their options to get married or go to hell, Zayd and Zaynab got married. Shortly after the marriage, Muhammad saw Zaynab scantily attired. He was so moved that he started mumbling that her beauty and body made men’s hearts flutter. Although Zayd offered to divorce Zaynab, Muhammad knew that prophets shouldn’t be arranging doomed marriages, so he told Zayd to keep his wife.
Then a revelation [2] stated that the Islamic god had blessed Muhammad’s marriage to Zaynab. After praising Muhammad for telling Zayd to keep his wife, this revelation rebuked him for his reluctance to marry Zaynab, fearing the reaction of his followers. Within Arab culture, it was illegal for a father to marry his son’s ex-wife, and whereas Muslim males were restricted to four wives, Zaynab would be wife number six. The revelation concluded that the commands of the Islamic god must be followed. With his wife betrothed to his father, Zayd divorced Zaynab.
To remove the criticism of a father marrying his son’s ex-wife, a revelation [3] proclaimed that adopted sons are not real. Even though revelations had stated the Koran was clear [4] and easy to understand [5], some found this revelation neither, since sons — adopted or not — are real. Thus, a clearer revelation [6] stated that Muhammad was not the father of “any of your men.”
With Zayd no longer the son of Muhammad, the next step was to remove any barriers to marrying Zaynab, Muhammad’s first cousin, the daughter of a paternal aunt. Fortunately, a revelation [7] with the list of women Muhammad was allowed to marry included paternal aunts’ daughters. Another revelation [8] quickly added that Muhammad should not be blamed for doing something the Islamic god had made legal and that this was the way with previous prophets.
After numerous revelations, the wedding took place. However, at the wedding reception, some of the guests lingered, thus preventing Muhammad’s fluttering heart from moving to the conception part of the marriage. Hence, another revelation [9] instructed Muslims not to linger when having dinner with Muhammad.
Aware that some of his followers were upset that he was exempt from the four-wife rule, another revelation [10] stated that “after this,” it was unlawful for Muhammad to marry “other women,” even though their beauty may attract him. When he died, Muhammad had nine to eleven wives. These marriages were legal because “other women” referred to women males were prohibited from marrying, such as a mother or sister. A backup revelation [11] stated that Muhammad could marry any woman he wished, a privilege for him only.
Next is an event with Aisha, Muhammad’s favorite wife. Muhammad took Aisha with him on the raid of a peaceful Jewish community. After conquering the community and leaving to return to Medina, Aisha was left behind, perhaps upset that from the captives, Muhammad had taken a young, beautiful Jewish woman as a wife or sex slave. A young, handsome Muslim found Aisha and brought her home. Soon, there were accusations of adultery, which would have damaged Muhammad’s credibility as a prophet and meant that Aisha would be stoned to death. Conveniently, a revelation [12] proclaimed Aisha’s innocence.
Although Aisha had been declared innocent, Muhammad must have recognized the possibility that a wife could develop a fluttering heart, especially since, in their presence, he often met with young and handsome men. Thus, a revelation [13] stated that if any of his wives committed adultery, their torment in hell would be double that of other adulterous women.
Finally, there was an event that dealt with men with multiple wives. A revelation [14] required husbands to treat their wives equally. Initially, Muhammad’s wives were equally assigned nights with him. Then he began spending his nights with Mary, one of his sex slaves who was known for her beauty. His wives tolerated this behavior until his wife Hafsa found Muhammad and Mary in her hut, on her night, and in her bed. Muhammad swore Hafsa to secrecy, but she told Aisha [15]. Muhammad then received several revelations, which started by asking him why he was denying and restraining himself from something the Islamic god had made lawful to him [16], which was raping Mary. It continued that Muhammad did not have to obey the equality revelation [17]. Then Hafsa was chastised for disclosing something to Aisha that Muhammad had told her to keep secret, and both were told to repent and stop opposing what Muhammad liked. The revelations continued that if Muhammad divorced his troublesome wives, he would be given more compliant and loyal wives [18]. Muhammad’s wives were told that if they stayed married to him, it would be on his terms, and as an added rebuke, they could not remarry after his death [19]. Additional revelations [20] stated that annoying and ungrateful wives went to hell.
Have the revelations always existed on a stone tablet, or were they created by Muhammad as needed? The answer is not obvious based on only three episodes in Muhammad’s life. But what is obvious is that in the Bible, Christ died for our sins; in the Koran, Muhammad got laid for his.

Just The News: “Budget burdens, pharmaceutical options and hyperbaric oxygen therapy are concerns lawmakers in Congressional are raising with Veterans Affairs. The budget shortfall could impact veterans across the nation with a disruption in payments as soon as October.
Needed is $2.88 billion for disability and education benefits. Secretary Denis McDonough told Congress this month the projection for shortfall this year and next is $15 billion, of which $11.97 billion is for medical care next year.
Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., is one of six signatories on a Wednesday letter to Chairman Jon Tester of the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs in their chamber seeking an immediate hearing rather than waiting until the Sept. 9 resumption of session. Sens. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D.; Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn.; Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala.; Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska; and Mike Rounds, R-S.D. also signed the request.
The letter reads in part, “The sudden nature of the issue, and the sheer financial volume of the request, are both cause for concern and call into question the information previously reported by VA. Our committee is directly responsible for conducting rigorous oversight and this budget shortfall proves that VA is in desperate need of scrutiny and accountability.”
The budget of McDonough, an appointee of President Joe Biden, was presented to Congress four months ago. Tillis, in a release, said the shortfall is a “clear departure” from what was presented, and said the “deficit alone is greater than the entire annual budget of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.”
Senators’ request comes within hours of McDonough and Dr. Thomas Emmendorfer sitting with U.S. Rep. Dr. Greg Murphy, R-N.C. Emmendorfer is the executive director in the VA for Pharmacy Benefits Manager Services.
Murphy in a statement afterward said, “I addressed the procurement of safe drugs from nondomestic sources such as India and China, the electronic medical records pilot program’s pause, significant cost overruns, and the adoption of lifesaving hyperbaric oxygen therapy. As the representative of 76,000 veterans, it is my duty to advocate for more adequate and quality care for our veterans who have made many sacrifices. I conveyed the dissatisfaction of many veterans in my district, and across the country, with the VA’s management and my commitment to pursuing meaningful solutions to these issues.”
As The Center Square previously reported, state lawmakers in North Carolina approved in September an appropriation of $500,000 that will help military veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, known as HBOT, has significantly reduced suicidal ideations and an array of other symptoms in about 60 North Carolina military veterans suffering from PTSD and TBI over the last two years through a program called HBOT for Vets. Murphy has led the effort in Washington to increase resources.
North Carolina is home to roughly 800,000 active duty or veteran families, including about 650,000 veterans. Roughly a quarter of veterans nationwide suffer from PTSD or TBI, suggesting more than 162,000 North Carolina veterans may benefit from HBOT.”

Ummmm….and why do they have to “purchase” parking spots??? That’s insane!!! Why separate students according to their financial ability??? So, the richer students are entitled, then? BUNCH OF BULL SHYTE!!!
Just The News: “Keller Independent School District in North Texas is reversing a previous policy and is now allowing students to paint their purchased parking spots in support of former President Donald Trump.
The reversal came after the mayor of Keller and the Keller ISD board president backed the students on social media posts. Paid reserved parking spots are available to seniors who pay $200 and they are allowed to paint them, according to Spectrum News.
Two students were asked to paint over their pro-Trump paintings last week, saying they were a potential distraction, the Dallas Morning News reported.
Charles Randklev, Keller ISD board president, pushed back. “Let me be clear. There is nothing offensive or controversial about respectfully painting or honoring a current or former President for the United States of America,” he wrote on Facebook. “We will take action and make it clear that the students can honor President Trump as the 45th, and soon-to-be 47th President of the United States, as they wish.”
Mayor Armin Mizan also offered his support. “If we have the images of several former Presidents on U.S. currency, then surely the image of a President at a parking spot should be allowed,” he wrote. “I trust that Keller ISD leadership will correct the situation.”
One of the students painted Trump wearing American flag-themed sunglasses and a bandana, while the other painted “45/47,” citing Trump as the 45th president and possibly the 47th.”

I saw an article this week about one of the bigger fairs in NE making those with dairy cows have their entries tested for bird flu before being allowed to participate. Bet they have to even pay for the fricking tests!!! Stupid, stupid, stupid! There has been no milk-related bird flu discovered anywhere in NE or in nearby states.
“HHS ‘Declaration of Emergency’ for Bird Flu Paves Way for PCR Testing and More EUA Vaccines, Critics Say
Public health authorities have taken a series of actions in recent weeks to facilitate the possible future distribution of bird flu testing and vaccines, even as the CDC maintains the current public health risk from bird flu is low.”
CHD, by Brenda Baletti, Ph.D., July 29, 2024
EXCERPT: “The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) this month issued a declaration of emergency, announcing that some flu viruses — including H5N1 bird flu — could cause a pandemic and threaten national security. The announcement by HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra amended a 2013 section of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic (FD&C) Act, which allows the agency to extend the availability of medical countermeasures to pandemic influenza A viruses, including the currently circulating H5N1 strain of bird flu.
Prior to the amendment, the declaration covered only the previous H7N9 strain of bird flu. The announcement specified that current circumstances justify the emergency use authorization (EUA) of in vitro diagnostics such as RT-PCR tests to detect bird flu and other pandemic influenza A viruses.
“This paves the way for more EUA vaccines, devices and products to possibly be effective against these new and unknown viruses,” attorney Ray Flores told The Defender. He added:
“Just as EUA PCR tests exaggerated the COVID-19 pandemic, the detection of avian influenza and influenza A viruses with pandemic potential via unlicensed PCR tests is destined to justify lockdowns, masking, invasive nasal swabs, and wide-scale vaccination with experimental mRNA technology.
“The stage is set for RT-PCR tests to take the pivotal role of determining false positives with amped up cycle thresholds designed to declare asymptomatic, otherwise healthy people to be infected — just like last time.”
Under the FD&C Act, HHS can take steps to facilitate countermeasures only after the secretary of either the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of Defense or HHS determines there is an emergency or potential for an emergency involving a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear agent that may threaten the national or health security of U.S. citizens.
After that determination, the HHS secretary can declare that existing circumstances justify an EUA that would allow the FDA to authorize previously unlicensed drugs or vaccines or previously unapproved uses of licensed drugs..
The amendment covers animal or human flu viruses — circulating in wild birds, humans, or domestic animals — that may infect humans, may have caused pandemics in the past or may mutate to cause a pandemic in humans for which they have no prior immunity….”

More bureaucratic legalized nonsense, according to me. Look at the history of US bureaucratic growth since Abraham lincoln started the USDA. Or when T. Roosevelt used the USDA to split federal government into various departments, like the US Monetary Commission to study European Banking Practices. The legal system is its own aristocracy. Presidents are their pawns.

I can no longer print my updated time lines, but my various biographies show that almost every US President has expanded federal bureaucracy.

there’s one aggressive male that prevents others from drinking out of the feeders on the side. he sits in the tree and guards it.

we have 4 feeders–2 in front, 2 on the side. the side ones are controlled by that male. any time any other hummer tries to land on either one, he flies in from the tree where he can see them.
the 2 out front are guarded by 2 other hummers. one sits on the railing below and the other sits on the chain it’s hanging from. but they get overwhelmed–there were as many as 12 hummers flying around out there at one point.
that’s why i picked the side ones.

Birthright citizenship is an invention of Justice Brennan, contained in a non-binding footnote in a 5-4 SCOTUS decision from 1982. And ever since then the media has force fed us the lie that this is a guarantee of the 14th Amendment. Birthright citizenship is a scam that gave us anchor babies.

About Pres Trump’s negative comments in GA about the 3 GOP constitutional officers last night: they’ve got it coming. After the past 3 years, I’m sick of the false lying media / leftwing/ Dems narrative regarding the illegally secretly recorded phone call between President Trump and GA SOS Raffensperger. I was on the call, which is now part of every leftwing media article about me since that day.
Fact: Trump’s legal team filed an election contest on Dec 4 2020. Supposed to be expedited but Chief Judge of Fulton County failed (refused?) to assign an eligible judge. So Pres Trump never got his day in Court. All the media focuses on is Pres Trump’s statement “we just have to find 12,000 votes”. The problem with that narrative is the Trump team had ALREADY found them – many many more than 12,000 votes that were included in the certified total – votes that were ILLEGAL under GA law. And shouldn’t have been counted. More than the margin between Pres Trump and Biden.
What Raffensperger has never done to this day is sit down and compare the data in the lawsuit with data from his office that he insisted proved Trump wrong. Data in the lawsuit such as:
– That the USPS records showing 18,325 votes cast from “vacant” addresses were wrong…
– That the data showing 1,000 votes cast from P.O. Boxes was wrong….
– That the data showing more than 30,000 votes cast by people who voted (illegally) from prior addresses was wrong.
And many other categories of illegal votes.
If Raffensperger was / is so confident of “his data” why wouldn’t he publish it? Why wouldn’t he be happy to share it even now to confirm his data was right and Trump’s data was wrong? Raffensperger never did that. Still won’t.
The lawsuit had already documented – “found” – well more than 12,000 illegal votes- all public record. More than 1100 pages of data and expert reports. What Pres Trump asked Raffensperger to do was LOOK at the data and the evidence in the election contest lawsuit, compare the records with persons from the Trump team. But he wouldn’t / couldn’t / can’t do that.
Raffensperger loves being adored by leftwing media so he could not afford for facts to come out. That’s why Pres Trump (rightfully!) still holds Raffensperger responsible for the mess in Georgia in 2020. Along with Gov Kemp and AG Chris Carr. They utterly failed to make absolutely certain that the results were accurate. They failed. All the American people expected then and now is accuracy. Those 3 officials didn’t do that. But NO ONE asked Raffensperger to “manufacture” votes. Asking to compare data to confirm accuracy shouldn’t be too much to ask.
Then or now.

“Olympics Committee Brings In Renowned Gender Expert To Test Female Athletes For Eligibility”
Sports · Aug 4, 2024 · BabylonBee.com
PARIS — With controversy continuing to rage over which athletes ought to be allowed to compete as women in the Olympics, the IOC has brought in renowned expert Matt Walsh to determine what a woman is.
“Who could be better?” asked IOC President Thomas Bach. “The man has spent literally years walking across the globe trying to determine what, precisely, constitutes a woman.”
Any athlete whose eligibility for entering female competition comes into question will appear before Walsh, who will serve as the final arbiter. “Walsh’s methods are admittedly unorthodox, but effective,” said IOC spokesman Dan Gold. “There are no blood tests, no cheek swabs. The first person who came in, Walsh just doubled over laughing and said, ‘You think you’re passing for a lady?? Hahahaha get out of here, you big oaf.’ The next one, Walsh kicked in the nuts. The third one who just came in, he’s having the athlete make him a sandwich. We’re still waiting for Walsh to finish eating the sandwich and deliver his judgment.”
While effective at rendering gender judgments, the IOC bringing in Walsh has not been without controversy. “Walsh has also taken it upon himself to go to the women’s gymnastics meets and scream ‘MIDGET!’ at all the athletes under four feet ten inches tall,” said Bach. “While technically true, it’s caused a bit of a ruckus. He also showed up at the men’s gymnastics meet one evening and every time a guy mounted the pommel horse he would yell ‘GAY!’ We’ve had a lot of complaints.”
At publishing time, Walsh had reportedly been kicked out of an Olympic soccer match for yelling things about a guy flopping that we at the Babylon Bee cannot in good conscience put in print.
