Indiana State Mammal: Northern Cardinal

Basic Description

The male Northern Cardinal is perhaps responsible for getting more people to open up a field guide than any other bird. They’re a perfect combination of familiarity, conspicuousness, and style: a shade of red you can’t take your eyes off. Even the brown females sport a sharp crest and warm red accents. Cardinals don’t migrate and they don’t molt into a dull plumage, so they’re still breathtaking in winter’s snowy backyards. In summer, their sweet whistles are one of the first sounds of the morning.

Find This Bird

The brilliant red of a male Northern Cardinal calls attention to itself when males are around. You can also find cardinals by getting a sense of the warm, red-tinged brown of females – a pattern you can learn to identify in flight. Away from backyards, cardinals are still common but inconspicuous owing to their affinity for dense tangles. Listen for their piercing chip notes to find where they are hiding.

Backyard Tips

Nearly any bird feeder you put out ought to attract Northern Cardinals (as long as you live within their range), but they particularly seem to use sunflower seeds. Leave undergrowth in your backyard or around the edges, and you may have cardinals nesting on your property.

Cool Facts

Only a few female North American songbirds sing, but the female Northern Cardinal does, and often while sitting on the nest. This may give the male information about when to bring food to the nest. A mated pair shares song phrases, but the female may sing a longer and slightly more complex song than the male.

Many people are perplexed each spring by the sight of a cardinal attacking its reflection in a window, car mirror, or shiny bumper. Both males and females do this, and most often in spring and early summer when they are obsessed with defending their territory against any intruders. Birds may spend hours fighting these intruders without giving up. A few weeks later, as levels of aggressive hormones subside, these attacks should end (though one female kept up this behavior every day or so for six months without stopping).

The male cardinal fiercely defends its breeding territory from other males. When a male sees its reflection in glass surfaces, it frequently will spend hours fighting the imaginary intruder.

A perennial favorite among people, the Northern Cardinal is the state bird of seven states.

The oldest recorded Northern Cardinal was a female, and was 15 years, 9 months old when she was found in Pennsylvania.

NYC store owner fears business ‘won’t survive’ rampant shoplifting that has occurred since start of migrant crisis

The owner of a Queens store located within 13 blocks of 17 migrant shelters says his business “won’t survive” the rampant shoplifting it has had to endure since their arrival.

Chris Sciacco, the owner of Kaiya’s Pallets at 36-37 31st St. in Long Island City, told The Post his store is targeted as many as six times a week by migrant thieves.

“It’s not fair that these people can come into my store and steal willy-nilly and nothing gets done about it,” said Sciacco.

His variety store is a one-stop shop for food, clothing, electronics and staples such as diapers at wholesale prices — and that could be the reason it’s targeted more often than other retail stores in the nabe. It’s now bleeding at least $3,000 a month, Sciacco said.

  6. EXCERPT: “Health and Human Services whistleblower Tara Rodas says she faced retaliation from the department after she reported concerns that unaccompanied immigrant children were being placed in the hands of sponsors who were affiliated with the notorious Salvadorian MS-13 gang.

“Interestingly, when I discovered that there was MS-13 actually sponsoring the children…. this began when a DHS whistleblower came forward and then alerted us that MS-13 and 18th Street gangs were getting the children, it only took them less than three weeks if you can imagine, to walk me off the site under threat of investigation,” Rodas said on the Wednesday edition of the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show. “That’s what happened to me.”

She said that it was unbelievable that she was the one who suffered retaliation when the HHS’s Office of Refugee Resettlement Unaccompanied Children program should have been changed to protect the minors at the border.

“They knew they had a problem,” she said. “They could have easily changed the system to make it safe for children. And instead, they decided to silence me when I brought these concerns. These are grave concerns.”

On Tuesday, Rodas and fellow whistleblower Deborah White participated in a roundtable discussion about the exploitation of missing migrant children. It was hosted by Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, Bill Cassidy, R-La., and Ron Johnson, R-Wis.

Rodas said during her testimony that unaccompanied migrant children are funneled through a network of U.S. government agencies, contractors and nongovernmental organizations. She said that people working for these agencies and organizations have little or no training on how to protect children from trafficking or abuse….”

  8. we were watching Robin Williams movies yesterday and we didn’t get to watch Man of the Year. going to do that this evening to refresh my memory. the movie is about a tv personality glibly deciding he should enter the presidential race (on a whim). at the same time, a computer expert discovers a “glitch” in the new voting software–can’t remember if it’s intentional or not. she noticed the 2 candidates (can’t remember their names) had double letters in their names and the glitch would override some votes by assigning the vote to the one whose double letters appeared first in the alphabet. Enter Williams who character’s name was Dobbs. His double b’s trumped the other 2 candidates and he wins.

The computer expert meanwhile went to the security team at the software company to inform him of the glitch before the election, but the bottom line is more important to him. to prevent her from going public that the software is flawed, he sends someone to assault her who injects her with a drug cocktail to make her appear like a stoned addict. no one believes her.

  10. EXCERPT: “The most powerful companies in the world have united against free speech, and they’ve deployed your tax dollars to fund their mission.

Last week, the House Judiciary Committee released a report on the little-known Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) and its pernicious promotion of censorship. GARM is a branch of the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA), a global association representing over 150 of the world’s biggest brands, including Adidas, British Petroleum, Nike, Mastercard, McDonald’s, Walmart, and Visa.

The WFA represents 90% of global advertising spending, accounting for almost $1 trillion per year. But instead of helping its clients reach the broadest market share possible, the WFA has appointed itself a supranational force for censorship. Rob Rakowitz and the Mission to Supplant the First Amendment

Rob Rakowitz, the leader of the WFA, holds a particular disdain for free speech. He has derided the First Amendment and the “extreme global interpretation of the US Constitution,” which he dismissed as “literal law from 230 years ago (made by white men exclusively).”

Rakowitz led GARM’s effort to boycott advertising on Twitter in response to Elon Musk’s acquisition of the company. GARM bragged that it was “taking on Elon Musk” and driving the company’s advertising income “80% below revenue forecasts.”

Rakowitz also championed the unsuccessful effort to have Spotify deplatform Joe Rogan after he expressed skepticism for young, healthy men taking the Covid vaccine. Rakowitz attempted to intimidate Spotify executives by demanding to hold a meeting with them and a team that he said represented “P&G [Proctor and Gamble], Unilever, Mars,” and five advertising conglomerates. When a Spotify employee said he would meet with Rakowitz but not his censorsial consortium, Rakowitz forwarded the message to his partner, writing “this man needs a smack” for denying his demands.

The WFA extended its efforts to direct manipulation of the news market. Through a partnership with the taxpayer-funded Global Disinformation Index, GARM launched “exclusion lists,” which created de facto boycotts from advertising on “risky” sites, which it described as those that showed the “greatest level of disinformation risk.” These lists included the New York Post, RealClearPolitics, the Daily Wire, TheBlaze, Reason Magazine, and The Federalist. Left-wing outlets, such as the Huffington Post and Buzzfeed News, were placed on the list of “Least risky sites,” which facilitated increased advertising revenue.

GARM, the WFA, and Rakowitz is the latest scandal demonstrating the destruction of our liberties at the hands of consolidated power. Like the Trusted News Initiative or the Biden White House’s censorship efforts, the aim is to remove all sources of dissent to pave the way for the further corporatization of the oligarchy that increasingly replaces our republic.

    The WFA’s Attack on Democracy

Just as Rakowitz could not hide his contempt for the First Amendment, WFA CEO Stephan Loerke demanded that his conglomerate overtake the democratic process.

In preparation for the Cannes Lions Festival (a gathering of billionaires and multinational corporations in the South of France every June), Loerke released a statement demanding companies “stay the course on DEI and sustainability.” According to Loerke, these policies must include responses to “climate change” and the promotion of “net zero” policies,” which have already wreaked havoc on Europeans’ quality of life…..”

    EXCLUSIVE:

    🚨🚨🚨 NEW REPORT🚨🚨🚨

ALARMING NEW DETAILS AROUND THE BUILDING USED BY THE SHOOTER TO ALMOST ASSASSINATE PRESIDENT TRUMP!
    ——————————

ALARMING NEW DETAILS AROUND THE BUILDING USED BY THE SHOOTER TO ALMOST ASSASSINATE PRESIDENT TRUMP!

WHY IS THE COMPANY THAT OWNS THE BUILDING NOT TALKING?

AND WHY HAVE THEY NOT RELEASED A STATEMENT?

AGR International, the building Thomas Matthew Crooks shot from, was just sold in March to a Clayton, Dubilier and Rice (CD&R) @CDRBuilds subsidiary
    called INDICOR.

It is worth noting that Joseph L. Rice III is the Founder of Clayton, Dubilier & Rice.

Rice is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and he is
also a member of the Brookings Institution,

the same Brookings institute that has perpetuated lawfare campaigns against President Trump in
an effort to keep him off the ballot for the 2024 Presidential election.

It’s important for people to understand how the DEEP STATE has a history of using proprietary companies as cutouts.

According to filings and their own press releases, Indicor was officially formed in Jan 2023 by CD&R, who just partnered Jon Selib.

Prior to joining CD&R, Jon Selib was the Senior Vice President of Global policy and public affairs and Pfizer, a position he remained in until 2022.

As the Senior VP of Global policy and public affairs for Pfizer, Selib was a MAX DONOR to Joe Biden’s campaign when he ran against President Trump.

The current CEO of Indicor is Doug Wright, who was previously deployed with defense contractor Raytheon Technologies. Doug Wright, CEO of Indicor,
confirmed that “law enforcement was on the premises of the building before the shooting took place”, since it was deemed to be a high security risk
    location by the Secret Service.

Wright also said the office was closed on the day of the attempted assassination of President Trump.

Roberto Quarta is the Chairman of the Private Equity group (CD&R) that owns Indicor/AGR.

His photo is listed on the World Economic Forum (WEF) website.

Oddly enough, John Stroup the Indicor Chairman and CD&R partner, recently announced his resignation from the board of directors of Crane Company on June
    5th, 2024, effective July 22nd, 2024.

On March 18, 2024, the change of registered office by entity for the building the shooter shot from was changed to “Corporation Service Company”.

Corporation Service Company is registered as a foreign business corporation in Delaware.

In December 2023, CD&R made Jon Selib a partner, after he joined CD&R in 2022.

was the former chief of Staff to Democrat Montana Senator Max Baucus.

(D), the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

In 2013, Barack Obama chose Senator Baucus to be the US ambassador to CHINA.

Selib spent 12 years working in the US Senate and became Chief of Staff to Senator Baucus after Baucus’ former chief of staff Jim Messina left to fill
the same position for Democrat Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.

In 2020, Ambassador Baucus went on CNN and said President Trump’s rhetorical attacks on China make him “a little bit like Hitler” when President Trump
was blaming China for the COVID outbreak.

Ambassador Baucus currently lives in Bozeman, Montana, where he and his wife, Melodee Hanes, formed a consulting firm called Baucus Group LLC. Ambassador
Baucus provides consulting services to American and Chinese businesses and he serves on the Board of Directors of Ingram Micro, and the Board of Advisors
to the Chinese Communist Party owned Alibaba Group.

Got a weird lead on a story that people should look into. I got a call from a source close to Las Vegas Metro. The official story was that Joe Biden’s trip was cut short last week due to COVID. However, according to this source, US Secret Service informed LV Metro that there was an emergency situation involving Joe Biden and to close necessary streets so that POTUS could be transported immediately to University Medical, which they began to do in earnest. Then, mysteriously, there was a stand down order and the USSS informed local Vegas PD that they were going to “medivac” POTUS to Johns Hopkins, which they presumed meant fly him back east ASAP. Apparently the rumor mill in the police department was that Joe Biden was dying or possibly already dead.

I didn’t think too much about this lead, seemed too wild to be true, but given that Joe Biden has been out of public sight for days and dropped out of the race via an 𝕏 post, and his brother James indicated health was a factor, I’m beginning to grow more curious if COVID or something else has been more serious than reported. If anyone with LV Metro has information, please email Freedom@CharlieKirk.com. I want to hear if there is more to the official story than what they’re telling us.

Joe Biden is now in the terminal stage of his illness. This is what my medical source in DC has confirmed to me. I told you all weeks ago he had a medical emergency on Air Force One and that you’d be seeing resignations. Everything I said is true. Most people don’t know Air Force One has a full medical emergency triage center on the plane. There’s even an operating room on Air Force One. Just because people don’t know these things doesn’t mean my reporting was incorrect. It just means I’m ahead of the curve.

EXCERPT: “Fiction Outdone by Dog,” exclaimed the headline in The Sunday Oregonian. “Collie Travels Miles in Search of Master. Faithful Animal Crosses Eight States in Long Journey to Home in Silverton.”

Bobbie, a Scotch collie/English shepherd mix, had walked about 2,500 miles from Indiana, where he had been separated from owners Frank and Elizabeth Brazier six months earlier during a 1923 family vacation. He didn’t look like himself: “His toenails were worn off by the gravel and sand; his flanks were thin from the long run, and the mane was tangled and shaggy,” The Oregonian reported. But he was alive.

Bobbie’s story appeared in magazines and newspapers throughout the nation. When he died in 1927, more than 200 people attended his funeral at the Oregon Humane Society’s Animal Cemetery. Fellow canine celebrity Rin Tin Tin placed a wreath at his grave.

In 1932, Silverton established a pet parade in Bobbie’s honor. This year’s parade will include Tricia Brown, author of the new children’s book “Bobbie the Wonder Dog: A True Story” (WestWinds Press, 32 pages, $16.99).

Bailey filed the lawsuit on July 3, and argued that the prosecution of former President Donald Trump in his hush money case, along with the court’s gag orders, damaged Missourians’ right to hear him speak freely ahead of the election.

The lawsuit requests that the Supreme Court rule that New York illegally interfered with the presidential election, and postpone any sentencing in the court case until after the election. It also seeks to have the gag orders that are still imposed on the former president removed.

“The United States Supreme Court has ordered New York to respond by Wednesday,” Bailey posted on the social media platform X.

    7. VP Kamala Harris Had 92-Percent Staff Turnover During Her First Three Years

Chaos reigns on the vice president’s staff. And Harris tried to hide it by claiming that her office is not subject to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

      ADAM ANDRZEJEWSKI, JUL 22, 2024

“People really, really do not want to work for Kamala Harris,” wrote former staffer Dan McLaughlin, January 2022.

      Topline

Under Kamala Harris, the Office of the Vice President has been called a “revolving door,” a “staff exodus” of key aides “heading for the exits.” That’s not hyperbole from the national media. Our auditors at OpenTheBooks quantified an extraordinarily high 91.5-percent staff turnover rate. We used U.S. Senate disclosures to conduct our investigation and those databases can be downloaded below.

Elected in November 2020, Harris took the oath of office in January 2021. As of March 31, 2024, only four of the initial 47 staffers from the first year are still employed – consistently and without interruption – by the Vice President.

Furthermore, the turnover chaos isn’t getting better. In the trailing 12-month period, 24 staffers left — that’s almost half the employees.

Download the Office of Vice President 2021 & 2024 payrolls here (source: U.S. Senate disclosures)

      Key facts

The “top-to-bottom dysfunction” that The Atlantic referenced in October 2023 is shown in the reported payrolls that we captured. “In her first year and a half as vice president, Harris saw the departure of her chief of staff, communications director, domestic-policy adviser, national security adviser, and other aides,” the magazine wrote.

If only that was all who left. The semi-annual Report of the Secretary of the Senate, among other things, lists the names, titles and salaries of staff in the Office of the Vice President (OVA). In the most recent publishing through March 31, only four staff from the original 47 listed in the 2021 report remained consistently employed and are among the office’s 50 current staff members.

The Kamala Harris Fabulous Four – here are the names, titles, employment date, and salaries of the four employees most loyal to Kamala Harris:

      • Yael S. Belkind has been assistant to the chief of staff since Jan. 20, 2021, earning $85,924;
      • Nasrina Bargzie was associate counsel since Feb. 10, 2021, now is deputy council, taking home $118,066.
      • Oludayo O. Faderin was associate director from July 2021, then became deputy director of west wing operations, making $85,924.
      • Olivia K. Hartman was hired in August 2021 as advance coordinator and became deputy director of scheduling, making $94,750.

Silas Woods, III began his career with the vice president as a vetting researcher on Feb. 17, 2021 making $52,500, became associate director of research, and left in August 2022. He went to work as a press assistant for the White House making $67,000. On March 25, 2024, Woods returned as a personal aid to the second gentleman and deputy director of special projects, where his full salary isn’t reported.

The other 45 people employed in OVP as of March 31 were hired after Sept. 30, 2021, when staff had already begun leaving the office. In the last year alone, (April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024) 24 people left their jobs with Harris….”

Biden’s career in Congress, combined with his tenure as Vice President and President, means he will receive an annual pension of $413,000 of taxpayer dollars. His salary as president is $400,000.

President Biden is entitled to a pension as the result of the Former Presidents Act of 1958, which was enacted after concerns about the financial situation of Harry Truman. Joe Biden’s net worth is currently estimated at $9 million.

Once Biden leaves office taxpayers will provide a Congressional pension of $166,000 with annual cost-of-living adjustments and an executive branch pension equal to a cabinet secretary which is $246,400 in 2024.

In the new issue brief Brady writes:

Joe Biden represents a unique situation. With his long tenure in Congress and subsequent years as Vice President and President, Joe Biden stands to benefit significantly from both systems, potentially receiving a combined payout starting at around $413,000. Lawmakers should re-examine this loophole that allows for double-dipping in two different yet generous pension programs.

Unfortunately, there are currently no limits within each pension program that would curtail the taxpayer-funded benefit afforded to the elite few who have accrued substantial pension benefits in both the legislative and executive branch, in addition to their personal wealth.
