A gurn or chuck is a distorted facial expression and a verb to describe the action. A typical gurn involves projecting the lower jaw as far forward and up as possible and covering the upper lip with the lower lip.
The English Dialect Dictionary, compiled by Joseph Wright, defines the word gurn as “to snarl as a dog; to look savage; to distort the countenance,” while the Oxford English Dictionary suggests the derivation may originally be Scottish, related to “grin.” In Northern Ireland, the verb “to gurn” means “to cry,” and crying is often referred to as “gurnin’.” Originally the Scottish dialectical usage refers to a person who is complaining. The term “gurn” may also refer to an involuntary facial muscular contortion experienced as a side-effect of MDMA consumption.
Apparently, this is a big deal and an annual event in the UK. Enjoy some gurns!

Morning All…things just getting worse.
we are almost halfway thru the water i’d been stockpiling and we’ve still at least 2 more days of no power.
hubby has the generator running –on for a few hours–then off longer–to keep the fridge and freezer going. during those times, we plug in the laptops and my kindle. and our phones.
today hubby thought he’s make coffee while the generator is running and the coffee pot would not brew. the error message we got says the powerboard got fried during the surge/outage.
sigh

This is the most incriminating evidence demonstrating this weekend’s attempted assassination was a known event amongst powerful players. Like airlines were shorted before 9/11 (presumably by people connected to the terrorists), “somebody” placed a massive 8 million share bet that Trump Media (DJT) would inexplicably collapse this week. To people outside the finance world, this DOES NOT HAPPEN without a leak of non-public information. Going into the RNC, securing Trump’s nomination, we should have seen the OPPOSITE activity, with bets for shares increasing being placed (on Trump driving traffic to Truth Social as nominee & potentially President). For decades, the clearest proof of foreknowledge of 9/11 has been the airline stock shorts, but was explained by the terrorists “leaking” knowledge beforehand. Who “leaked” knowledge of Trump’s assassination if it was a lone wolf acting alone? No one. Someone knew.

Wheezer is back to eating the dry food – she visited sometime during the night. At about 4:30 this morning, I heard Jake spitting and hissing at the front door. I got up to look and there was Wheezer curled up right next to the door, just looking at him.
Hopefully, the heat has passed as forecast – nice and cool at 65 this morning and not as humid with clear skies. What a relief!!!

Just The News: “Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced on Tuesday that he has decided to move the SpaceX headquarters out of California to Texas.
“This is the final straw. Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas,” Musk wrote in a post on X, referencing a new law signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif. that prohibits schools from enforcing policies that require parents to be notified if their child identifies as transgender.
“There were many straws before that, but that was what finally did it,” he wrote in a follow-up post on X. Musk also said the headquarters of his social media company X, formerly Twitter, will move to Austin. “Have had enough of dodging gangs of violent drug addicts just to get in and out of the building,” he said.
In 2021, Musk decided to move the Tesla headquarters to Austin. Musk revealed that he had a personal conversation with Newsom about a year ago regarding the direction of the state. “I did make it clear to Governor Newsom about a year ago that laws of this nature would force families and companies to leave California to protect their children,” he wrote.”

Just The News: “Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. issued an apology on Tuesday for the posting of his phone call with former President Trump, who survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally on Saturday. RFK Jr.’s son had posted the video of the conversation online. It has since been removed but others had already re-posted it.
“I should have ordered the videographer to stop recording immediately. I am mortified that this was posted. I apologize to the president,” Kennedy said. During the conversation, Trump told Kennedy that he’s “going to win” the election and discusses vaccines. Kennedy has been skeptical of certain vaccines.
“Something’s wrong with that whole system. And it’s the doctors, you find,” Trump said during the call.”

Just The News: “Former President Donald Trump and his new running mate GOP Sen. JD Vance of Ohio will make their first public appearance together as a joint ticket at an indoor event on Saturday, marking the first rally for Trump since the assassination attempt.
The former president was wounded in his right ear during a shooting at a Pennsylvania rally on Saturday afternoon, which resulted in the death of one attendee and the suspected shooter. Two other civilians in the audience were critically wounded.
The rally will take place at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Saturday, July 20, at 5 p.m. Eastern, according to Axios. The indoor venue is unusual for Trump, but Secret Service officials have reportedly warned the former president against holding outdoor rallies because they pose greater security risks.
Vance and Trump were confirmed as the Republican presidential and vice presidential nominees at the GOP convention on Monday, after Trump announced Vance as his running mate.
“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “J.D. honorably served our Country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a Yale Law School Graduate, where he was Editor of The Yale Law Journal, and President of the Yale Law Veterans Association.
“J.D.’s book, ‘Hillbilly Elegy,’ became a Major Best Seller and Movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country. J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond….” he concluded.”

Just The News: “West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice’s famous four-year-old bulldog “Babydog” made an onstage appearance at the Republican convention on Tuesday, alongside her owner who is running to replace Sen. Joe Manchin this November.
Babydog has made multiple appearances with her owner at important gubernatorial events, and is even featured in a new mural under the golden dome of the West Virginia capitol building, according to the Associated Press. Her most notable appearance was during Justice’s 2022 State of the State address, when the governor lifted her up and pointed her bottom toward the camera, telling singer Bette Midler to “kiss her heinie,” after she claimed West Virginians were “poor, illiterate and strung out.”
The dog’s entrance was met with cheers from the audience, along with chants of “Babydog!” Justice joked that the dog, which sat in an armchair on the stage, could predict the future.
“Babydog has got a prediction for everybody here. And here is the prediction: Babydog says that we will retain the House, the majority in the House, we are going to flip the United States Senate and overwhelmingly we are going to elect Donald J. Trump and J.D. Vance in November,” Justice said at the convention.
Justice also said that Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, was “super smart” and a “business guy.” Justice was registered as a Democrat when running for governor, but switched parties in 2017 while at an event with Trump, per CNN.
“The bottom line to why we’re here, the bottom line to every single thing that’s going on in this great country today is one thing: we become totally unhinged if Donald Trump is not elected in November,” Justice said.”

This is Navarro’s substack…as I mentioned earlier, he was working with the other inmates on reform.
“The Right Side of History, PART II: The Costs of Injustice”
HEATHER K, JUL 17, 2024
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “6:11 p.m. (EDT), July 13, 2024, was the most sobering moment in recent American history. But for a miraculous inch, we’d be living in a very different world, and we must act like it. We must keep the energy and continue forward. America is waking up, we have new members of the movement, and we are renewed. We cannot let up for a second if we want to take this country back. As the Republican National Convention is ongoing this week in Milwaukee, we’ve expanded our reach to new non-traditional Republican voters. Dr. Navarro is released from Federal Prison today, and in his honor, this article returns to the discussion of criminal justice reform.
MAGA Championing Criminal Justice Reform Is the Right Side of History. In the last piece on Criminal Justice Reform, we examined some abuses of the Biden justice system (and pre-existing abuses), which include egregious violations of the Constitution, excessive sentencing, and lopsided justice. The abuses and failures of the justice department overlap, and we continue to witness this via the recent trial of President Trump and the imprisonment of Dr. Peter Navarro and Stephen K. Bannon.
We must remember our political prisoners and incorporate criminal justice reform into the list of priorities for change. Learn more about Dr. Navarro’s new tough-on-crime but smart on time approach following his personal experiences. This article summarizes some of the failures of the Biden Administration, as compared to President Trump’s initiative to reform the criminal justice system via the First Step Act of 2018.
As previously mentioned, MAGA has been at the forefront of the ideological transformation of the Republican party, most notably in what Dr. Navarro calls the MAGA triangle: fair trade that protects American workers and supply chains, an immigration policy that protects our national sovereignty and American workers, and an end to endless wars, a departure from the failed neocon foreign policy. Dr. Navarro has spent the last four months in a federal prison, and Stephen K. Bannon will be in a federal jail until November.
President Trump, the presumptive Republican Presidential nominee, continues to face political persecution by his political opponent, Biden. It’s clear that the justice system, like so many of our institutions, requires significant reform. The Biden Administration has failed miserably and intentionally imposed abuses of the justice system on the American people. MAGA must champion criminal justice reform, as this is the right side of history. It is time for MAGA to lead the way in reversing years of corruption and injustice. We must elect President Trump.

President Trump and Criminal Justice Reform
President Trump made significant headway during his administration when it came to criminal justice reform. One of President Trump’s initiatives took steps to reduce the Federal Prison population with the First Step Act of 2018 (P.L. 115-391). As summarized by the Congressional Research Office, The First Step Act of 2018 included a “series of criminal justice-related provisions” and three major components,
“1. Correctional reform via the establishment of a risk and needs assessment system at the Bureau of Prisons (BOP)
2. Sentencing reform via changes to penalties for some federal offenses
3. The reauthorization of the Second Chance Act of 2007 (P.L. 110-199).”
After signing the First Step Act of 2018 (Pub. L. No. 115–391, 132 Stat. 5194 (2018)) on Dec 21, 2018, President Trump reduced the federal prison population by a total of 15.5% (per the Bureau of Justice Statistics – a reduction of 27,930 inmates) by the end of his term. See page 5 of the report: Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), Federal Prisoner Statistics Collected Under the First Step Act, 2023.
President Trump has also stated that he will commute the sentences of Ross Ulbricht and J6 defendants. The application of reasonable sentences, reduction in the federal prison population, and effective implementation of halfway houses can significantly reduce the cost of federal spending within the criminal justice system.
Continued Failures of the Biden Administration and the Problems with the American System of Justice:
In Dr. Navarro’s recent Washington Times article, Dr. Navarro outlined some critical failures of the Biden administration and the long-standing problems with the federal sentencing processes:
1. Over-sentencing is unconstitutional (8th Amendment) and causes a profound emotional burden to inmates and their families, as well as an excessive financial burden to the taxpayer.
2. “Mandatory minimums” are problematic – most especially for non-violent offenders. This policy regularly puts first-time offenders in prison for 10-15 years or more. This is excessive and needs reform.
3. Excessive and broadly defined charges are used to threaten/sentence inmates, and this is an abuse (i.e., obstruction of justice, J6 defendants, peaceful abortion protesters)
4. The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is ignoring mandates from Congress, such as pre-release custody being delayed (halfway house). It costs US taxpayers more to keep the inmate in prison than it does to release inmates to a halfway house. Delaying or removing these options keeps inmates in federal prison longer, creating an additional emotional burden for the inmates and an economic burden to the taxpayer.
5. The Bureau of Prison BOP fails to release in a timely manner, and this is due to a failure to follow the 2022 full forecast release credits (under First Step and Second Chance). [28 CFR part 523 and part 541, BOP-1176P, RIN 1120-AB76, FSA Time Credits – this is authorized by 18 U.S.C. 3632(d)(4) and Section 101 of the First Step Act of 2018 (P.L.115-391, Dec 21, 2018, 132 Stat 5194) (FSA)]

About the dichotomy of the stories of this jackwad failing miserably in the school’s gun club and yet seemingly sooo accurate in his shots at Trump. He and his Father were described as avid hunters and there were over a dozen weapons in their house – I think he joined the range and acquired those skills in defiance of his HS peers, most likely spurred on by his Father.

“Who’s Responsible?”
CLANDESTINE, JUL 17, 2024
“The way I see it, the Deep State are responsible for this no matter how you slice it. Either it was treasonous negligence and violent media-driven rhetoric pushed the kid over the edge, or the Deep State carried out the act themselves. Either way, they are complicit.
The MSM/Dems, accompanied by their insane anti-Trump propaganda, have brainwashed hundreds of millions. They waged psychological war on the American People to advance their nefarious agenda, and they’ve warped some minds beyond the point of return.
Regardless of if they had a direct hand in Trump’s attempted assassination, they are guilty of treason, sedition, and crimes against humanity, for which the punishment is death.
Functionally, nothing has changed. Either we destroy the Deep State, or they destroy us.”

One point about Vance’s entering the Marines – no way he could afford to pay for college and Yale on his own. By enlisting for the basic 4 year tour, in a VERY safe MOS, he gets a boat-load of financial support to pay for it. Not that I blame him at all – I did the same thing but I just didn’t use it since I didn’t have any interest in climbing the ladder to success. A lot of people enlist for that reason.
