On March 25, 1975 Idaho Governor Cecil Andrus signed a bill naming the Appaloosa, as Idaho state horse. This is a deserving honor for a horse that has been an integral part of Idaho history.
The Appaloosa has a very long history. Spotted horses have been seen in art as far back as cave drawings 20,000 years ago. The Appaloosa was seen in ancient Persian literature as the horse of a great Persian hero.
The Appaloosa is a horse breed best known for its colorful leopard-spotted coat pattern. There is a wide range of body types within the breed, stemming from the influence of multiple breeds of horses throughout its history. Each horse’s color pattern is genetically the result of various spotting patterns overlaid on top of one of several recognized base coat colors. The color pattern of the Appaloosa is of interest to those who study equine coat color genetics, as it and several other physical characteristics are linked to the leopard complex mutation (LP). Appaloosas are prone to develop equine recurrent uveitis and congenital stationary night blindness; the latter has been linked to the leopard complex.

They were seen in China in ancient times as well, dating back to 206 BC, during the Han Dynasty. The Spanish introduced horses to Mexico in the 1500s. Following the Pueblo Revolt, horses rapidly spread throughout North America, reaching the Northwest around 1700. Historians believe the Nez Perce and Palouse tribes of Washington, Oregon and Idaho were the first tribes to breed horses for specific traits – intelligence, speed and endurance. White settlers call these horses ‘Palouse horses.’ Over time they came to be referred to as ‘a Palousey’ and the ‘Appalousey.’ During the Nez Perce War of 1877, Appaloosa horses helped the non-treaty Nez Perce, under the guidance of Chief Joseph, elude the US Calvary for several months. The coloring of the Appaloosa coat is distinct in every individual horse and ranges from white blanketed hips to a full leopard.

The hallmark of the Appaloosa is his striking and distinctive spotted coat. Dark oval or round spots are seen on their coats. Some display the spots only over their white hips and loins, while others have them all over their bodies. The loin and hip areas are usually the most spotted. Some have white spotting on dark backgrounds and others will display white all over their bodies. The spots range greatly in size from as large as four inches to others that are so small they are merely flecks. Each Appaloosa will possess a unique pattern much like the human’s fingerprint. In addition to their spotted coats, the skin of the Appaloosa is also mottled with spots.

The Appaloosa is an intelligent, fast and hard-working breed. An easy-going disposition and exceptional abilities give this horse a great deal of versatility that no doubt contributes to its rapidly rising popularity. Once the warhorses of the Nez Perce, today the Appaloosa serves as a racehorse, in parades, ranch work and youth programs. The coloring of the Appaloosa’s coat is distinct in every individual horse and ranges from white blanketed hips to a full leopard.

Good morning, Miss Pat.
I’ve never spotted an Appaloosa in our neck of the woods. They are beautiful horses. Never seen one like that last one – must be extremely rare.
I’m home until Thu or Fri, depending on how things go with Sally Q this week. She developed a strange bruise on her underside that I discovered after she said her bottom hurt. She didn’t fall this weekend. So it must be caused by something else. Her Dad wants to stop the Eliquis blood thinner for a couple of days as a precaution.
Hope you all have good weather and a great day!

we did. Mom thoroughly enjoyed the long visit with my nephew and his wife.
before they came, we cleaned out some of her filing cabinets and she has a ton of recipes she’s saved over the years. she doesn’t cook much anymore so i asked why she kept them. she said when i start to feel lonely and sad, cuz it’s just me in this house and rarely do i get company, so i feel sorry for myself and just cry. (the tears were starting then too) she said i look at them to distract myself and remember when we had everybody here at the house.
sigh…broke my heart.
then my nephew came and we had a good time–so i hope that helped.

I don’t mean to be snippy, Pat – I just can’t keep up with everything any more. It’s gotten waaaay too convoluted for my simple, straight-forward brain! And I’ve never liked watching the rallies – just more political talk, more promises that may or may not come to fruition. I don’t need all the rah-rah stuff and it’s not going to change my opinions.
Hot, hot, hot for the next few days – in the 90’s and who knows what the heat index will be! I went out and watered the plants that needed it a few minutes ago and pulled some runners off of the Trumpet vines. It’s really humid! The cantaloupe are doing really well – I’m almost at the point where I can remove the cages – I could probably do it now but I’ll wait until the vines are long enough to start up the trellis.
The jelly feeders have lightened up a lot in the last couple of days. I usually have to fill it in the morning but not today and only once yesterday.

Joe’s recent EO giving Parole to non-citizens married to citizens is already Unconstitutional
Supreme Court’s Immigration Rebuke Suggests Biden’s Border Order Is Unconstitutional
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3 on Thursday that U.S. citizens do not have a constitutional right to guarantee their noncitizen spouse admittance into the country, something President Joe Biden tried to cement in his most recent executive order concerning the ongoing border invasion.
American Sandra Muñoz sued the federal government after her husband, Luis Asencio-Cordero, an MS-13 gang member, was denied a visa by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in 2015 due to “unlawful activity” the immigration officer suspected based on a gang affiliation tattoo he spotted on the El Salvador native during the interview.
Asencio-Cordero, a noncitizen, eventually “disavowed any gang membership” and, with Muñoz’s help, tried to appeal the visa case with the Department of State. The federal agency, however, agreed with USCIS’s decision, effectively asserting (along with the Supreme Court’s judgment Thursday) that a noncitizen like Asencio-Cordero has “no constitutional right to enter the United States.”
President Joe Biden announced an executive order last week that would award amnesty to half a million illegal immigrants in situations like this one. The order not only deliberately shields noncitizens who are married to U.S. citizens, like Asencio-Cordero, from deportation but also gives them explicit permission to reside and work in the country.

1) House sources are expecting Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) to force a vote to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in “inherent contempt” of Congress sometime in the middle of next week. Fox is told the vote likely comes Wednesday or Thursday.
What is “inherent contempt?”
It’s similar to “contempt” of Congress – in which the House voted to hold Garland earlier this month for failing to respond to a subpoena to provide audiotapes of the interview Special Counsel Robert Hur conducted with President Biden about the classified documents case.
But “inherent contempt” is a dramatic and historic escalation.
The House has not held anyone in inherent contempt since the 1930s. Prior to that, you must go back to the early 1800s and 1790s.
Yes. That’s correct.
With “inherent contempt,” the House approves the resolution – and doesn’t rely on the Justice Department to prosecute the contempt of Congress case. In this case, the House deploys its “inherent” powers and dispatches House Sergeant at Arms Bill McFarland and his team to “arrest” Garland. Ostensibly, Garland could be held BY CONGRESS (read that again) until he provides the audiotapes.
Such a scenario creates an extraordinary conflict between the legislative branch of government and the executive branch. Keep in mind that Garland is protected by armed FBI agents. Does this create some sort of a standoff?
Unclear. And no one seems to know on Capitol Hill.

Fascinating about the Appaloosa. My understanding is that horses originated in the Russian steppes way back when and were first brought to the Americas by the Spanish in the 1500s, as you say.

Morning, Katharine! I posted a story at Marica’s blog a couple of years ago about the history of horses in the US. As for their personalities, they are very head-strong, stubborn and bull-headed but all of that can be handled with proper training and they are really tough and strong. In the end, they are basically spotted Quarter Horses.
https://wordpress.com/posts/my/marica1776.com
EXCERPT: “The Breeds of Livestock resource from Oklahoma State University lists 217 separate breeds of horses from the Abyssinian to the Zhemaichu. Meanwhile, “The Encyclopedia of the Horse” by Elwyn Hartley Edwards lists just over 150 breeds of horses, including many ancient breeds that no longer exist but are the ancestors of many breeds today. A study by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences references 784 horse breeds in the United Nations Food and Agriculture database, but most equine experts recognize approximately 200 horse breeds.
Although horses hadn’t been roaming the American plains in the years leading up to their European introduction, horses have a much longer relationship with America than previously thought.
Think millions of years, coinciding in time periods with the mighty wooly mammoth. Around 10,000 years ago, some of these wild horses crossed over the Bering land bridge that connected early America and Asia. The earliest bridles for horses were found in Eastern Europe dating back to 4000 BC, showing that the Europeans started to domesticate the wild horses around this time, using them for hunting, carrying packs and working the fields. The ancient wild horses that stayed in America became extinct but their ancestors were introduced back to the American land via the European colonists many years later.”

EXCERPT: “A whitetail doe can give birth to one, two or three fawns each year, and that’s the limit for almost all of them. A very rare doe will bear quadruplet fawns. And rarest among the rare, making Boone & Crockett bucks look commonplace, are the documented cases of quintuplet whitetail pregnancies – five fawns. Here, in one bundle, is a look at the rules of whitetail reproduction and those who break them.
Whitetail pregnancy rates and the number of fawns per pregnancy are strongly related to doe age and herd health. Single births are more common among younger does in their first-ever pregnancy. Most healthy, adult whitetail does give birth to twins. In lower-quality habitat or areas where deer density is too high, twins are about as good as it gets. In higher-quality habitat where deer numbers are in balance with available nutrition, as many as 15% of adult does may bear triplets. Yes, fewer does in quality habitat actually recruit more fawns than overpopulated does in poor habitat.
How often do these healthiest of healthy whitetails give birth to quadruplet fawns? Are quintuplet fawns even possible? Here’s what I learned in my search for the most fertile wild does ever documented…..”

I guess another possibility would be that one or more may have been from another doe that died. Hmmm….I think deer will “adopt” fawns from other does.

that i believe because there are times, when the fawns are older, that it appears one doe will “babysit” while the others feed and then switch. there are some distinguishing marks on some deer that allow you to recognize one that frequents the salt licks and such.

The network’s defense: CNN did not intend to harm and its language was “opinion or ambiguous.”
Tapper is set to co-host the first presidential debate next Thursday which is being hosted by his network. The host has come under scrutiny from former President Donald Trump, who is set to participate in the debate, for his partiality— calling him “Fake [Jake] Tapper.”
But, as the well-known CNN personality gears up for that debate he also finds himself in the middle of a lawsuit against his employer by security consulting firm Nemex Enterprises and its owner Zachary Taylor, who worked to help evacuate Afghanis following the chaotic Taliban takeover of that country.
“Jake Tapper started his career working for a Democrat politician and he has never been able to shake the habit. Trying to run cover for Biden’s disastrous pullout from Afghanistan, he and his CNN show slimed a hero who saved the lives of those Biden put in jeopardy. Now CNN is facing a billion dollar defamation suit at the same time Tapper will be moderating the presidential debate featuring the politician he lied for. Unreal,” Dan Schneider, Vice President at conservative media watchdog Media Research Center, told Just the News in a statement. His organization reported that CNN has since deleted the TV segment under scrutiny from its website.
The lawsuit and CNN’s defense is clearly adding fuel to the critics of the network which has faced accusations of bias. Trust in CNN has become one of the most polarizing datapoints when comparing the opinions of Democrats and Republicans, with a 96-point disparity in trust for “The Most Trusted Name in News,” according to a May 2024 YouGov poll. Just The News: “The U.S. Defense Department is facing a lawsuit to turn over emails and documents about how the agency came to delete the phrase “Duty, Honor, Country” from the mission statement of the United States Military Academy at West Point.
The conservative legal watchdog organization Judicial Watch filed the lawsuit against the Defense Department last week after the Military Academy failed to respond to its Freedom of Information Act request filed in March 2024.
While the words “Duty, Honor, Country” remain the academy’s motto, West Point Superintendent Lt. Gen. Steven Gilland said in March that following a year-and-a-half assessment, the mission statement would be updated. The new mission statement is: “To build, educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets to be commissioned leaders of character committed to the Army Values and ready for a lifetime of service to the Army and Nation.”
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said that the Military Academy has recently been facing concerns about progressive ideology infiltrating its mission.
“Given the woke virus infecting West Point, deleting the words ‘Duty, Honor, Country’ from its mission statement has sparked justified concern about what the Army’s rising leadership is being taught at the United States Military Academy. And the unlawful stonewalling of the release of records about the issue makes matters worse,” Fitton said.”

“Pro-Trump Businessman Donates $50M As Trump’s Fundraising Outpaces Biden”
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Billionaire mega-donor Timothy Mellon made a $50 million contribution to the pro-Trump MAGA Inc SuperPac on the same day a jury found former President Donald J. Trump guilty in the Manhattan hush money trial. Mellon’s donation makes the single largest individual campaign contribution in the 2024 election cycle. Mellon—an heir to the Mellon banking dynasty—holds an estimated wealth of $14.5 billion, according to Forbes.
A bulk of MAGA Inc.’s $68.8 million in fundraising for May came from Mellon’s donation. Overall, former President Trump and the Republican National Committee (RNC) raised over $140 million last month. Following the Manhattan conviction, the Trump campaign—seperate from the SuperPAC—announced raising nearly $53 million within 24 hours. On June 6, investors David Sacks and Chamath Palihapitiya hosted a fundraiser in San Francisco, where contributions were reportedly up to $300,000 per attendee.
Other key donors supporting Trump include hedge fund founders John Paulson and Robert Mercer, Blackstone Group CEO Steve Schwarzman, fracking pioneer Harold Hamm, and casino mogul Steve Wynn.
[NF: The Mercer family owns Breitbart]
Fundraising projections indicate this may be the most expensive election in United States history. Mellon has contributed over $100 million to political organizations this cycle, having supported Trump and independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Billionaire backers also support Joe Biden. Michael Bloomberg, former NYC mayor, has donated $19 million to Biden’s SuperPAC and an additional $929,600 to Biden’s fundraising committee. Additionally, Democrat mega-donors James Simons and Fred Eychaner have given $6.5 million to the PAC aiding House Democrats, with Simons contributing $6.6 million and Eychaner $2 million.
Biden’s campaign boasted a higher fundraising total through April, with $192 million in cash on hand compared to Trump’s $93.1 million. Meanwhile, the Trump campaign garnered more in monthly contributions in April and May outpacing the 81-year-old Democrat incumbent.”

Our Take: The best part of this clip is Adam Kinzinger’s facial expression at the end:
Why is Kinzinger important? Well, he destroyed his political career after throwing all of his credibility into the ‘House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack.’
As we’ve repeatedly discussed in the Brief, the J6 committee was the coverup of J6. J6 was the coverup of November 3. Adam Kinzinger went all in — and became untouchably toxic in the wake of his betrayal. Kinzinger betrayed his constituents and the American people by co-signing Nancy Pelosi’s political theater. As a result, he’s been reduced to a meme, a talkie, and a man without power.
Now, former NY Governor Andrew Cuomo is confirming — as the former AG of NY — that the ‘hush money’ case was only brought for political purposes, and that it would never have been brought against anyone not named Trump. That admission has stunning implications for the other political investigations, and Adam’s face says everything about that.” — Ashe in America

From Harriet Hageman (R WY):
On Thursday, the Department of Energy’s “Office of Energy Justice and Equity” announced that it is soliciting feedback on its “Environmental Justice Strategic Plan” pursuant to Biden’s executive order entitled “Revitalizing our Nation’s Commitment to Environmental Justice for All.”
Rather than focusing on ways to safeguard traditional energy sources, protect jobs, and work towards American energy independence, the Biden administration has chosen to use your tax dollars to promote “environmental justice” (whatever that means) via an office that should not even exist. To learn more or to voice your opposition to this plan, you can visit this link (https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2024/06/20/2024-13467/notice-of-request-for-information-related-to-the-department-of-energys-environmental-justice).
To say that the Biden administration is a colossal failure is an understatement. “Energy justice” is ensuring that American citizens have access to affordable and reliable energy. “Energy justice” is ensuring that we are not dependent on dictators and despots from places such as Iran, Russia, Venezuela, and China to provide us with energy and life-protecting resources. “Energy justice” is protecting our citizens and communities who have dedicated their entire existence to keeping the lights on and our houses heated. “Energy justice,” however, is not taking away the most important energy resources we have and claiming that “equity” has been achieved – unless of course, shared misery is the desired outcome.

“The UN: “We must all work to eradicate (hate speech) completely — The UN’s global “plan” to eradicate free speech”
ROBERT W MALONE MD, MS, JUN 24, 2024
EXCERPT: “The “International Day for Countering Hate Speech” was on 18 June. Yep, there is now a special day to promote and legitimize propaganda and censorship. On that day, UN Secretary-General António Guterres released a press release outlining their new “plan of action” to censor speech and calling for more governmental propaganda.
Basically, the UN will be rolling out a new edict requiring nations to censor citizens and organizations by documenting what they perceive as harms done by
free-speech“this scourge.”So, hate speech now includes speech criticizing a belief or specific political affiliation. When did the definition of hate speech change? Who knew?
The Secretary-General António Guterres then states that each nation already has an obligation under international law to censor as well as propagandize; he writes:
Wait! What!
So, the UN has already passed international law to “prevent and combat incitement to hatred and to promote diversity, mutual understanding and solidarity.” To which each nation has already committed to. So there we are:
Solidarity describes itself as “a democratic, revolutionary socialist, feminist, anti-racist organization.” Its roots are in strains of the Trotskyist tradition but has departed from many aspects of traditional Leninism and Trotskyism. It is more loosely organized than most “democratic centralist” groups, and it does not see itself as the vanguard of the working class or the nucleus of a vanguard. It was formed in 1986 from a fusion of the International Socialists, Workers Power, and socialist unity. The former two groups had recently been reunited in a single organization, while the last was an expelled fragment of the Socialist Workers Party (SWP). Solidarity’s name was originally in part an homage to Solidarność — a US-backed labor union in Communist Poland which, in Solidarity’s view, had challenged the Soviet Union from the left (Wiki).
So…
The self-described socialist Secretary-General António Guterres, who served as secretary-general of the Portuguese Socialist Party from 1992 to 2002, and his comrades have basically inserted language into various treaties to ensure that the UN’s globalist agenda is built on the backbone of socialism.
So, where is that international law, exactly? The international law(s) that state that each nation commits to propaganda and censoring free speech in the name of some ambiguous terminology, that now also includes speech that targets political affiliations and beliefs.
What are the international laws that state that each nation commits to “solidarity”?
Who put that socialist Secretary-General António Guterres in charge of the world?
Ummm… we did?

NF: I will say again: each and every one of these “government” agencies needs to be totally disbanded!!!!
EXCERPT: “Fresh off the back of Anthony Fauci and his former agency being accused of lying to lawmakers and covering up the origins of Covid-19, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is embroiled in another scandal.
This time, an explosive report by US congressional investigators found the NIAID tried to hide plans to conduct gain-of-function (GOF) research on a lethal strain of the monkeypox virus.
The proposed experiments from 2015 sought to insert genes into the virus to retain a moderate fatality rate of approximately 10-15%, but also to make the virus more transmissible, giving it ‘pandemic potential.’
Investigators with the House Committee on Energy and Commerce first learned about the desire to conduct such research after Bernard Moss of the NIAID revealed it to a journalist during an interview with Science Magazine in 2022, prompting an investigation.
But over the course of 17 months, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the NIH, and NIAID repeatedly misled the Committee in written and oral communications, denying that the potentially dangerous experiment was proposed and approved.
During the investigation, HHS and the NIH refused to answer questions about the research or provide documents requested by the Committee unless they had already been made public. Often it was under threat of a subpoena that information was handed over.
The interim report accuses the NIAID of stonewalling and obfuscating Congressional investigations into the potentially lethal monkeypox research, describing the NIAID’s deceptive behaviour as “unacceptable and potentially criminal.”
It states: …….”

“At CNN, they say ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ when it comes to a scroungy mutt like this guy. They reported on the annual World’s Ugliest Dog contest on Friday when it was held at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California. Wild Thang, an 8-year-old Pekingese, was crowned the winner and collected the $5,000 prize after five previous attempts.”

“Recently, an international group of scientists discovered a water-borne fungus chomping through the trash, which has been detailed in a new study published in the journal Science of the Total Environment. The fungus was discovered among the whispery layers of other microbes which live in the suspended plastic pile, and it’s only the fourth known marine fungus capable of consuming plastic waste.”

so why not put all the “recyclable” plastics in vats with water and the fungus? seems like it’s a good natural remedy.

“A coin left on a headstone or at the grave site is meant as a message to the deceased soldier’s family that someone else has visited the grave to pay respect. Leaving a penny at the grave means simply that you visited. A nickel indicates that you and the deceased trained at boot camp together, while a dime means you served with him in some capacity. By leaving a quarter at the grave, you are telling the family that you were with the solider when he was killed.
According to tradition, the money left at graves in national cemeteries and state veterans cemeteries is eventually collected, and the funds are put toward maintaining the cemetery or paying burial costs for indigent veterans.”

while we have to accept people as they are, we should not encourage obesity.

no it’s not. glamorizing it is not helping.
encourage a healthier life style instead of trying to normalize obesity

It all boils down to choices. Yes, some people have more trouble keeping weight off due to genetics, just as I have trouble keeping weight on for the same reason. That just means they have to be more careful about what/when they eat and getting exercise = GET OFF THE COUCH!!!

I just read a short blurb about another diabetes drug munjaro (SP?) that helps sleep apnea. now how the hell could that be possible? pretty soon, there will be a shortage of that drug because others will want it for sleep apnea…
the drug companies must be ecstatic (or lying)

Oh, man, is it going to be hot today! Not even 10:30 and it’s already up to 86 and steamy! There is a breeze at least but I won’t be going out again until this evening, when I have to take my trash bin out.

Looks like something homemade!!! I know next to nothing about guns, tbh – just the basics. I learned all about the M16 in basic but there is no way I could remember now how to take it apart and put it back together like I did then.

it was found in a box with round spectacles (the flexible kind–like very old ones), and a gold tooth.

it’s all still in the original box with a note explaining we have no idea who’s family this belonged to (his mom’s or his dad’s). the glasses are in an old leather sleeve with a company name on it, but it’s too worn to decipher.
maybe the kids will want it. the tooth is in a little clear plastic box and the gun is all by itself.

Some mildly good news for Bannon. Chief Justice Roberts has ordered the Biden DOJ to respond to the emergency stay application to keep him out of jail by 4 pm this coming Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 4 pm. At that point, Steve’s clock will have ticked down to 4 days left before his prison report date of 7/1/24. The House must file an amicus brief in support of June 26. The evening of June 26 is when the Supreme Court (or Chief Justice Roberts acting on his own) will start considering the stay application. The House must be on file before the Supreme Court starts that process for its views to be heard.
