Bad Father’s Day Gifts

I went searching for “bad” Father’s Day gifts and found this article about that very thing on the sheknows website.  (This article is from 2018 and I excluded her suggestions on what to get instead–those can be found at her site.)

Not all dads are the beer-loving, tie-wearing, golf-playing football fans so many Father’s Day cards make them out to be. Of course, every dad is unique, and Father’s Day is a time to honor the dads in our lives — in all their special, weird glory. But if you’re afraid your gift this year just won’t measure up, don’t worry. It can’t possibly be as bad as the gifts ahead.

We got eight real dads to spill the beans about the worst Father’s Day gifts they’ve ever received (just don’t tell their kids, OK?). Ahead are their hilarious examples of what not to do when Father’s Day Shopping — plus some fun alternatives.

Sure, we can all get a laugh from an “I love farts” mug or a Bigfoot air freshener once in a while, but let’s try to rise above the stereotypes and get a little more creative this year, shall we?

A Fart Mug

“Between all my children, I probably received over 100 cliché coffee mugs as Father’s Day presents, which I eventually regifted, threw away or sold at garage sales.” — Dan

No matter how tempting it may seem, don’t go inside the crappy gag gift shop at the mall (or on the internet, as the case may be) to get a Father’s Day present. Just don’t do it.

A Bad & Weirdly Political Drawing

“One of my daughters was pumped to give me a picture she drew (in crayon) of a bald eagle in front of an American flag. My wife had it professionally framed. To this day, it still sits hidden on the floor behind my nightstand because I can’t bring myself to throw it away, but I definitely don’t want to hang it up.” — Tim

OK, kids’ drawings are cute. But that doesn’t mean you should pick the weirdest one, frame it and expect Dad to hang it on the wall for years to come (we’re talking to you, moms).

A Holiday Arrest

“My son got ‘arrested’ on Father’s Day in sixth grade; we were playing catch when the cops pulled up. He was the kid who liked to play with matches, and a few weeks earlier, he’d started a pretty good grass fire in the woods near our house. When some other kids got caught in trouble doing other dumb stuff, they ratted him out.” — Harry

Please Not Another Tie

“My kids always got me the stereotypical dad gift: a tie. I now have a massive tie collection including several Looney Tunes prints.” — Sanford

Even if your dad wears ties every day, don’t get him a tie. Or a hat. Or socks for that matter. You can do better.

A Chore-Related Gift

“What I do not want for Father’s Day would be… lawn care equipment.” — Derek

No matter how “handy” dad may or may not be, don’t give him something associated with chores. If he needs tools, rest assured he’ll get them himself.

Swag From the Wrong School

“Toward the end of school last year, [my sons] had a little event in the gym at school where kids could shop for Father’s Day gifts… My older son hands me a tumbler that has the University of Cincinnati logo on it. I attended the rival school in Cincinnati, Xavier University. His quote was, ‘I know how much you hate Cincinnati, so thought you would like this.’ I believe the cup is at the back of the cabinet and has never seen the light of day.” — Bill

This may seem obvious, but don’t get him something representing his rival.

Anything Naked

“After my wife and I got back from a trip to Europe, she gave me an apron from Florence with the body of ‘The David’ statue printed on it and then made me wear it at our family barbeque. It was pretty awkward wearing that in front of my kids. I managed to ‘lose’ it shortly afterwards.” — Bob

A Gift For Yourself

“My daughter gave me a tongue scraper!? She was very into the whole Ayurvedic tongue-scraping, oil pulling, lemon water routine and wanted everyone to do it.” — Pablo

Don’t get Dad something you like just because you like it.

    1. Morning, Pat! Clear skies here, thankfully, but breezy as usual, temp of 70. I got 3 emergency notifications of tornadoes in the area last evening but the sky wasn’t a “tornado” sky. Nothing fit our usual tornado scenario – dead quiet but swirling clouds above, eerie greenish color to the sky, silent birds, etc. so I wasn’t too worried.

The 4th text, tho, a warning about flooded roads, did cover my county, as well as Madison and Stanton to the south. Got another downpour later in the evening with a bit of small hail again and strong wind. No damage here, just more bark from the cottonwood tree.

Found some videos of a couple of tornadoes yesterday, one near Clarkson, which is just south of Madison. And I can only imagine how the people living in Pilger were feeling!

PILGER, Neb. (KTIV) – As severe weather moves through Northeast Nebraska, our KTIV cameras caught a funnel live on the air outside of Pilger, Nebraska.

      Check out the video here.

KTIV Director of Operations Keith Bliven and the KTIV First Alert Storm Tracker has been out in Stanton and Madison Counties following the storms as they were developing and caught a funnel cloud drop from a wall cloud several times around 6:30 p.m. just outside of Pilger, Nebraska on June 15, 2024.

The funnel cloud dropped down and went back up several times over several minutes. Sirens were reportedly going off in Pilger. This happening as Pilger prepares to mark the 10 year anniversary of twin EF4 tornadoes that made a direct path through the town on June 16, 2014, impacting more than half of the Village of Pilger.”

    1. Snort!

However, there are exceptions – when Dads go gay or trans after being married.

The whole gay, trans, sexual orientation spiel is agenda propaganda – theories, inventions to defend their perverse proclivities.

Just like ‘gender theory’ was invented to defend identity disorders and the mutilitation of children.

It’s a lie told so long it has become institutionalized and part of the ‘common language’ like ‘ego’ which was an invention of Freud for his psychological theories.

Now they are inventing words, concepts and theories and concepts to defend pedophilia – calling it minor attraction orientation.

Nope – these are all assumed identities, false identities, mistaken identities – aligned with the natural sinful fallen identity of humanity. The only true identity is aligned with GOD’s Word – the born-again, new identity in Christ.

      1. Morning GA!
the family is a threat to the left. singly people are weaker, but as a family unit, they can be so strong. this is why they split the fathers from black families years ago…divide to conquer

  1. last evening was somewhat unusual. we weren’t home more than 5 minutes when i saw, from the kitchen window, a smallish (think beagle sized) gray fox come out of the woods. its tail was thick and full and looked black. it scooted around the pond and went into the woods. the last fox we saw up here was red and that was years ago.

about 10 minutes after that, we spotted a doe with 2 fawns (first twins we saw this year) at the pond nearly in the water–the fawns were attempting to drink . they were being startled by the fish and frogs in the pond and kept jumping up and running under mom for protection.

she no sooner scooted the whole family into the woods, when i see a similar (if not the same?) gray fox come running from the left again. (this would mean he’d done a complete 360*) But this time, there was a doe chasing him –and it couldn’t have been the same one with the twins because we could still see her moving away in the woods. this doe pursued the fox around the pond twice and followed him when he ran down the driveway.

    1. Good for her! At one time, I’m pretty sure there was a fox den underneath my neighbor’s old chicken coop across the street from me. I could hear their strident calls sometimes at night but never saw any. He has since taken that coop down and I haven’t heard them for some years now. Fawns are soooo adorable…it almost…but not quite…makes me wish I had some deer around my place. But the drawbacks overrule the benefits! LOL

we had a beautiful red fox stroll up the driveway years ago. i got pictures of it somewhere. had a look around and then wandered around the pond and disappeared into the woods. never saw it again.
but the same thing with the mink. there was a very very dry season and the mink came down the mountain following the gully that usually brings water down to the pond, but it was dry. we were out on the deck and watched it come down, wondering what the heck it was. it came over the (dry) waterfall and dipped into the pond for a few minutes and then went back up.

        1. See, that would be a perfect place for me except I couldn’t put up with all the shenanigans that go on with your deck all the time and the damage the animals do! I want to be able to see them but not have to deal with the drawbacks! IOW, I want my cake and to eat it, too! LOL

AN IMPORTANT POINT which should be added: from perusing avaition web sites one finds that DoD SIGINT eavesdropping flights are being flown over Trump’s Palm Beach estate (MAL)!

Governmental surveillance of a former president and present presidential candidate are clearly federal crimes of the first magnitude, but typical of the communist rule now extant in America!

    1. It certainly shouldn’t be happening under this scenario! It’s pretty SOP for current Presidents/VPs but not now!

  3. Wheezer was sleeping in my chair again for the first time since I sprayed her and she’s once again giving that silent “mew” when I talk to her – her version of “hello.” So, she’s “speaking” to me again – LOL. Her food dish was empty and she didn’t immediately jump down from the chair when I went out to get it. She was still on the chair when I put the refilled dish back out but got down to eat immediately.

The Orioles have leveled off in their feeding pattern – I only need to refill it once a day now, if then. Nesting, I assume.

I can’t even remember all the silly things I got for my Dad – a lot of ties….Sunday ties since he wore a uniform working for the PO. BBQ gadgets and small tool items, funny odd things and cards.

    1. Dad was not a tie wearer either, but he was huge sports fan, we got his Phillies shirts and Eagles shirts–and hats. Dad loved hats!
glad to hear Wheezer is “speaking” to you again…LOL

my kids gave me a mother’s day dinner–complete with cake. they “bought” all the ingredients (from my pantry) and gave them to me –with some note about asmbly (assembly) rekwird (required)
hubby was laughing so hard when i read the note i knew he had a hand in it.

  4. Just The News: “Former President Donald Trump on Saturday blasted illegal immigrant gangs terrorizing America as “animals” and warned the insecure border was disproportionately hurting black and Hispanic voters.

Courting minority voters and conservatives at two different events in battleground Michigan, the former president turned to one of his favorite subjects: illegal immigration. Trump said the millions of illegal aliens flowing across the border are  stealing jobs and draining government resources, especially in minority communities.

“The people coming across the border — all those millions of people — they’re inflicting tremendous harm to our Black population and to our Hispanic population,” he declared.

He also highlighted the toll that illegal foreign gangs like MS 13 and Venezuelan criminal gangs are inflicting. “They’re not human beings. They’re animals,” he said.”

  5. Just The News: “Several election lawsuits filed recently with significant impact on the 2024 presidential election have been decided in favor of election integrity proponents, ensuring laws remain enforced ahead of the November election.

The lawsuits filed focused on candidate eligibility, different changes in law, and alleged violations of election laws. Most of them have resulted in wins for election integrity, while two are ongoing.

In 2020, there were as many as 400 lawsuits brought by both Republicans and Democrats regarding election procedures and laws as election administration was quickly changed during the COVID-19 lockdowns leading up to the presidential election. All of the lawsuits this year greatly impact how the 2024 presidential election will be conducted.

Marshall Trigg, junior counsel for Restoring Integrity and Trust in Elections (RITE), wrote for The Daily Caller last month regarding recent election integrity legal wins, “Legislation has been tightened, highly skilled lawyers have taken over cases, COVID hysteria is gone and there are far fewer legal justifications for evading the core issues in the courtroom.” ……

Just The News: “Several reports indicate that America has a fatherhood crisis, which has created a culture of “floundering” young men.

Young men from non-intact families are more likely to end up in prison or jail, drop out of high school or not graduate from college compared to young men raised by their married biological parents with their father living in the home, a new Institute for Family Studies report argues.

“What we see for young men today is a family-to-prison-or-college pipeline that is more likely to deliver boys from intact families towards college graduation and boys from non-intact families towards prison or jail,” the report states. “Young men raised by their two married, biological parents are almost 20 percentage points more likely to graduate college than end up in prison/jail.”

It points to research conducted by an economics professor and research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research who found that declining marriage rates are “driving many of the country’s biggest economic problems.” The research found that young men who grew up in a married household with their two biological parents are more likely to graduate college, among other outcomes…..”

  7. Now why would Gorsuch dissent on this? I’m betting for the majority of cases, these justices all get together ahead of time and decide amongst themselves how they are going to vote and “arrange” it so there isn’t toooo much of an imbalance. Some (most?) are danged near as corrupt as Congress and all the other so-called “government institutions!” And there’s a lot of “you wash my back and I’ll wash yours” BS!!!

EXCERPT: “The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld a law established by Congress requiring the deportation of foreign nationals who illegally enter the country. The court ruled Friday on three consolidated cases in Campos-Chaves v Garland that were on appeal in the Fifth and Ninth circuits, where the appellate courts issued conflicting rulings.

The lawsuits were brought by foreign nationals who illegally entered the country, were deemed “inadmissible” under federal law and given Notice to Appear (NTA) documents stating they must appear before an immigration court at a future date and time. Each of the plaintiffs didn’t show up to their hearings, and federal immigration judges ordered their removal in absentia in accordance with federal law established by Congress.

In response, the illegal foreign nationals sued, demanding their removal orders be rescinded, claiming they didn’t receive proper written notification. They also challenged the definitions of the word “change” in the order they received and made other technical arguments.

The court ruled against them by a 5-4 vote. Justice Samuel Alito delivered the opinion for the court, with Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett concurring.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson filed the dissenting opinion, joined by Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Neil Gorsuch….”

The Detroit metro area is expected to get the worst heat wave it has had in about 20 years.

The National Weather Service warned that the heat is expected to ramp up starting Sunday. “High temperatures are forecast to peak near daily record values throughout the Ohio Valley and Northeast Mon-Thurs, with max heat indices approaching 105 degrees,” the service warned.

  10. Just The News: “Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump is expected to return to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for a rally at Temple University.

“President Donald Trump loves the people of Pennsylvania,” Trump’s campaign said in a press release. “President Trump will ease the financial pressures placed on households and re-establish law and order in Pennsylvania!”

The rally is expected to take place on June 22, according to the Pennsylvania Capital-Star. This will be the fourth time Trump has visited Pennsylvania in 2024.

Pennsylvania is a swing state, and President Joe Biden has made numerous appearances in the state along with Vice President Kamala Harris. They recently launched a coalition titled “Black Voters for Biden-Harris” at Girard College.

    1. From catster.com: “Henry’s Pocket is the little flap of flesh you see on the outer part of a cat’s ear. Cats’ outer ears resemble triangles and are called pinnae. On the outside of the pinna, there’s a small pocket close to the cat’s skull, the Henry’s Pocket. Scientists don’t know why cats have this little fleshy pouch, nor are they sure of its purpose.

While it’s pronounced on most cats, many other animals, including bats, weasels, and some dogs, also have the pouch. It’s present in all cat breeds, but no one knows where the name comes from.

Is There Speculation About the Purpose of a Cat’s Henry’s Pocket?

Yes. Some scientists suggest the pouch may help animals better hear high-pitched noises. Others argue that the pouch helps cats pinpoint where sounds are coming from.

Or, it may help cats angle their ears efficiently to locate the source of sounds. It could also allow cats to move their ears to express emotion. While cats have some of the best hearing among mammals, there’s no proof this pouch contributes to their extraordinary hearing range.
