The Hawaii State Flower is a beautiful ornamental known as yellow Hawaiian hibiscus. It is distinguished by its large and full bright yellow flowers with a reddish center, and leaves that resemble a maple leaf.
Visitors to Hawaii will enjoy numerous colorful species of hibiscus growing prominently across the Big Island. There are seven varieties of the plant known as Hawaiian hibiscus, referring to the flowering plants considered native to Hawaii. There are other varieties that are similar in appearance to the Hawaiian hibiscus that are often used as ornamentals in homes and gardens, but most of these have been introduced from Asia and other parts of the Pacific.
The hibiscus flower, in all its varieties and colors, had been designated as the official flower of the Territory of Hawaii since way back in the early 1920’s. The particular species of yellow Hawaiian hibiscus, called ma`ohauhele or hibiscus brackenridgei, was specified as the newly official State Flower in 1988.
Ma’ohauhele (mah-oh-how-hay-lay) is the Hawaiian term for yellow Hibiscus. It literally means “green traveling introduced hibiscus”, perhaps due to the way the flowers turn green as they dry out. Blossoms are typically 5-6 inches across with a long yellow stamen and reddish center. The blossoms form as single flowers, but are sometimes seen in clusters at the end of the branch. There are sharp spines around the base of the plant.

Domestic hibiscus plants in gardens and around homes generally grow as shrubs anywhere from 3-12 feet tall. In their natural habitat they will sometimes grow into trees as high as 30 feet! They grow best in areas with an abundance of sunlight and need very little water.
Blooms are most prominent in spring and early summer, but flowers can be seen throughout the year. Due to the warm Pacific climate and rich volcanic soil, many tropical flowers grow in abundance in Hawaii. Visitors will enjoy a multitude of colorful flowers of Hawaii on display throughout the year.
The yellow Hawaiian hibiscus is found only in Hawaii. While it grows on all the main Hawaiian Islands, it is extremely rare. Because there are so few remaining in the wild, it is considered an endangered species.
Look for the beautiful yellow Hawaiian hibiscus growing in gardens and along roadsides across the The Big Island, particularly on the west side of the island where there is plenty of sunshine

a hummer was sitting on the railing this morning. there are 4 feeders–2 in the front, 2 on the side–and this male sits on the railing facing the end feeder. all 4 feeders were cleaned and refilled at the same time. 3 of them are at about half. this one? his “favorite” is nearly gone again…lol

Good morning, Pat! Animals develop habits & expectations just like humans. A different bird was showing up to eat jelly and I couldn’t figure out what it was until yesterday. It is the Orchard Oriole – something else I noticed yesterday – the Baltimore Oriole males don’t fight them or chase them away from the feeders – I again watched the 2 sitting side by side on the jelly feeder a few minutes ago, with nary a screech or chatter and no fighting. I can’t tell the difference yet between male/female OO’s so perhaps it was a female but I’ve seen male BO’s chase away other BO females that aren’t their mate…odd! They are smaller birds so that may account for it to a certain extent.
Predictions are for up to 10 days of mostly sunny and warm/hot temps – high 70’s, low 80’s, with an occasional shower here and there. Personally, I will be happy for less rain = less mowing. And it’s the last time I have the fertilizer applied to the lawn – good grief! It’s a jungle and requires mowing FAR too often.

i’ve never seen one of those!!
we never have 2 birds at the jelly feeder at a time. one will sit on the railing pretty far away while the other eats.
i hadn’t seen the grosbeaks for a while. but they’re back again.

Well, you have a small feeder – I’ve seen as many as 7 birds at one time on mine but it’s huge compared to yours. Supposedly Grosbeaks are here in NE, too, but I’ve not seen any. But, then, I’ve never seen Wood Ducks here either so….ya’ just never know what might show up! Keeps it interesting, that’s for sure!

BREAKING: The new Governor of Louisiana signed many MASSIVE election integrity bills that have Democrats panicking because their plot to turn Louisiana blue using election fraud has been destroyed On May 24, Landry signed House Bill 285, which requires the secretary of state’s office to create an election integrity division to perform many duties, including “conducting independent investigations into allegations of election irregularities.” Then on May 28, he signed six more election-related bills. Senate Bill 101 bans ranked-choice voting in Louisiana elections. House Bill 476 restricts people from delivering more than one absentee ballot via mail unless they are sending ballots on behalf of immediate family members. Senate Bill 155 only allows individuals to assist with more than one absentee ballot if they are helping immediate family members. Senate Bill 218 requires someone assisting a voter to provide their address and relationship to the voter and reveal if they were paid to assist. It also mandates that someone can only submit more than one application to vote by mail if they are submitting for an immediate family member. Senate Bill 226 makes sure an absentee ballot that is missing information and is not fixed by the voter is considered a challenged ballot that is only counted if the majority of the election board decides it should be. Senate Bill 449 redefines the term “qualified voter” to exclude any unlawful loopholes Two more bills were sent to the governor’s desk, House Bill 114 creates new procedures for maintaining active voter lists and specifies conditions under which individuals can be purged from voter rolls and Senate Bill 436 would require individuals to provide proof of citizenship to register to vote. Governor Landry is quickly becoming one of my favorite governors in the country

Judge Cannon expands hearing on Trump’s request to declare special counsel’s appointment invalid-
By Dan Berman and Katelyn Polantz, CNN
In this still image from video, Aileen Cannon, the Florida judge initially assigned to oversee Donald Trump’s classified documents case, answers questions during her nomination hearing by the US Senate Committee in July 2020.
Judge Aileen Cannon is planning on holding a sprawling hearing on Donald Trump’s request to declare Jack Smith’s appointment as special counsel invalid, signaling the judge could be more willing than any other trial judge to veto the special prosecutor’s authority.
The planned hearing also adds a new, unusual twist in the federal criminal national security case against the former president: Cannon on Tuesday said that a variety of political partisans and constitutional scholars not otherwise involved with the case can join in the oral arguments on June 21.
It’s an extraordinary elevation of arguments in a criminal case first filed a year ago this week that likely won’t see trial until next year, if at all.
Two former Republican-appointed US attorneys general, Edwin Meese and Michael Mukasey, are part of the groups of so-called “friends of the court” that side with Trump and whom Cannon will hear from. The three groups will be allowed to argue, in addition to Justice Department and defendants’ lawyers, for 30 minutes each, according to the court record.
Meese and Mukasey have special insight to share with the judge, they say, given their former roles leading the Justice Department.

“Tucker Carlson Explains Why He Didn’t Take the COVID Vaccine — This makes a lot of sense.”
THE VIGILANT FOX, JUN 05, 2024
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “The unvaccinated are frequently asked, “How did you know the COVID vaccines were dangerous when they first came out?” The answer is simple: we didn’t. However, we quickly figured out that the people pushing the shots were liars.
Political commentator Tucker Carlson explained this point brilliantly while on The Shawn Ryan Show. He recalled how he “didn’t know that the vax wouldn’t work” or that “it would cause harm” when it first rolled out. But what he did know was that “the people selling it were liars.”
(Video excerpt)
“The behavior of the people selling me that [vaccine] was so transparently dishonest. I didn’t know that the vax wouldn’t work, which it didn’t, of course. I didn’t know that it would cause harm, which it did. But I did know that the people selling it were liars. Like, I knew that instantly. And I know some of them, but I could just tell by their behavior [that] they’re lying.
“And I was like, ‘I don’t know what this is. No one in my family is getting this … period.’ Like I figured that out the first day … I felt [something was wrong] so strongly, and I just obeyed [my instincts]. And I think that works.”

Just The News: “The social media giant X filed a writ of certiorari with the Supreme Court on Tuesday, requesting a review of the process that special counsel Jack Smith used to obtain records on the site that belonged to former President Donald Trump.
Federal courts ordered Elon Musk and his company to turn over Trump’s records on the site to Smith and his team, without the consent or knowledge of the former president. This also meant that Trump could not appeal the order, or attempt to block it. The original order was approved by D.C. District Judge Beryl Howell, who endorsed the nondisclosure order, because prosecutors argued informing Trump could endanger the information the prosecution was trying to obtain.
Now the platform is hoping that the Supreme Court will prevent this kind of incident from occurring again, according to Politico. If the Supreme Court does change the process, it could change the way that search warrants are delivered to users in the future.
The social media company claimed that some of the information obtained in the search warrant could have been protected under executive privilege. For other users, if they are not notified when the government wants to review their data, they would would not be able to invoke doctor-patient confidentiality or journalist-source confidentiality that they otherwise would have been entitled to.
In Trump’s case, Smith was looking for Trump’s Twitter records, searches, and communications that took place between October of 2020, and January of 2021, while he was still in the Oval Office.
“As a result, ‘for the first time in American history,’ a court ‘ordered disclosure of presidential communications without notice to the President and without any adjudication of executive privilege,'” X said in its filing to the Supreme Court.
The plea to the Supreme Court comes after the X Corporation tried to get the ruling overturned in a D.C. Appeals Court, but the original ruling from Howell was upheld. The four conservative justices on the Appeals Court dissented.”

Toward the beginning of his presidency, Biden issued an executive order to “promote and defend the right to vote.”
Biden directed every agency in the federal government to participate, telling federal agencies they were to somehow look into voter registration, expand vote by mail, and use approved third-party organizations to help them get it all done.
“We don’t know who those organizations are; we don’t know all of the details because they are stonewalling Congress,” Glenn Beck explains, noting that what a “third-party organization” meant in 2020 was “partisan with strings attached.”
Biden has still not let Congress know exactly what the executive order is meant to do — and in the weeks leading up to the midterms, had his DOJ stonewall FOIA requests.
The Foundation for Government Accountability reportedly called the executive order an “unconstitutional taxpayer funded get out the vote effort designed to benefit the president’s political party.”
“So, it’s Zuck-bucks on government-funded steroids,” Glenn says.
An email revealed by the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project proves this, showing a collaboration between an approved third party and the Department of Agriculture.
“The Department of Agriculture, of all agencies, had enlisted the support of this approved third party to get their info at state level on voter registration data,” Glenn says, before reading a line from the third party, Demos, website.
“They are quote ‘working to build a just, inclusive, multi-racial democracy,’” Glenn reads, continuing, “Demos has worked at the intersection of democracy reform, economic justice, and racial justice. Demos has moved progressive issues from the movement to the mainstream, such as debt-free college.”“This is our election partner,” Glenn says, shocked. “Does that sound non-partisan?”

Our Take: It’s not only ‘MAGA Republicans’ that believe the Biden Administration is persecuting its political opponents. It’s so obvious that even world leaders are calling the spade.
Bukele is making good on his promises to make El Salvador great again, and the country is thriving. It’s not surprising, then, that the populist is criticizing the global regime’s overt election interference and political persecution in the US. It’s authentic and appropriate for him to do so.
This story reinforces that the world is watching our cold revolution in America. The global regime’s fingerprints are all over the treatment of 45, and populist heads of state should be considering those stakes for themselves. I’m sure they are — and I expect additional world leaders to rebuke this tyranny as we approach November 5. — Ashe in America

Once again, our elections look like a joke.
“New Jersey Democrats Elect Dead Congressman Donald Payne Jr. in Primary”
Excerpts:Despite being dead, Payne won New Jersey’s 10th District Democratic primary with 99.9% of the vote.
Payne was able to win the election because New Jersey’s deadline to run for Congress was in March, and Payne died in April.
Per The New York Post:
A special election will now be held for New Jersey’s 10th District on July 16th.

we just had our spring carpenter ant event. gees! usually every spring hubby sprays home defense around the outside of the house and that one time usually is enough to pretty much keeps out most things–except bees which tend to come in from the roof vent.
he forgot this spring…and the large ants (which love logs btw) made an appearance on the kitchen counter…which is dark green and marbled–so you can’t really see them especially on a dreary, cloudy day like today. sigh.
so he just sprayed the outside of the house, we put out fresh liquid bait traps and hope that’s enough for now. he ran out of spray…good thing we’re doing a banana run this afternoon.

Im fairly certain this wont fly and theyll continue to close locations until theyre all gone.
“Red Lobster is ready to close another batch of more than 100 restaurants if it is unable to renegotiate cheaper rent with its landlords.
The seafood chain abruptly closed 93 of its 700-odd restaurants on May 13 – and the next week filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the hope it can restructure its debts.
New court documents reveal that there are another 135 restaurants that bosses say will keep losing money if leases stay as they are, Restaurant Business reported. The option is for the company to pay less rent or shut them.
They include the iconic Times Square location which the company claims its is trying to keep open, according to the New York Post.
The restaurant’s landlord is reportedly doubling the location’s rent to $2.2 million a year, posing a threat to the 22-year-old lease.”

Comment-
“Sorry to break it to y’all but this has nothing to do with inflation, raising the minimum wage, the $11 million loss on endless shrimp, or Biden. Back in 2014, RL was bought by vulture capitalist Golden Gate Capital, which promptly sold the land owned by RL (on which the restaurants sat) at below replacement cost for $1.5 billion. The company that bought the properties, American Realty Capital Partners, promptly started charging RL high leases on that land. ARCP was then taken over by Realty Income. Then in 2020, selling to Thai Union Group, a Bangkok-based investment group. They all milked the land leases for all they could get and above fair market value. By 2023, when RL filed for bankruptcy, it was being leeched on the leases to the tune of $200 million a year, on land they used to own. This is called “asset-stripping,” and is what happened to Sears, Mervyn’s and ShopKo, as well as bankruptcies involving hospital and nursing home operations like Steward Healthcare and Manor Care.”

‘Every morning, we worry about this’
June 5, 2024
https://nypost.com/2024/06/05/us-news/garland-worried-daily-as-terror-threat-grown-enormously/
Attorney General Merrick Garland admitted he is “worried” daily about a possible terrorist attack on the US, warning that the threat level “has gone up enormously” since Oct. 7.
Garland revealed his fears Tuesday when asked in the House Judiciary Committee if there was a raised threat from the millions of migrants entering the country under President Biden’s disastrous border policies.
“I am worried about the possibility of a terrorist attack in the country after October 7. The threat level for us has gone up enormously,” he testified.
“Every morning, we worry about this question. We try to track anyone who might be trying to hurt the country.
“Of course, this is a major priority for the Justice Department,” he added.

Merchan, who earned favorable reviews from legal experts for his careful handling of the case, will sentence Trump on July 11, four days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
Republican senators acknowledge that legal experts say it would be highly unusual for Trump to receive a prison sentence for a class E felony and that he would most likely be allowed to remain free pending his appeal to higher state courts.
But they’re nervous about what may happen, because Merchan wields a lot of discretion over the terms of the sentence and they felt he tilted the trial against Trump’s team.

Too bad it won’t go anywhere unless Trump is elected….
Just The News: “House Republicans have referred Hunter and James Biden to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution, accusing the pair of making false statements to Congress during the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. The criminal referrals was filed Monday and come nearly seven months after House Republicans first authorized the impeachment inquiry into the 46th president.
Since then, the three committees leading the probe have uncovered what they term an influence peddling scheme surrounding Joe Biden by his family members, which led to millions flowing into Hunter and James Biden’s coffers from business deals abroad connected to allegedly corrupt oligarchs and individuals with relationships to the Chinese Communist Party. Hunter is Joe Biden’s son and Jim is the president’s brother.
“Our investigation has revealed President Biden knew about, participated in, and benefitted from his family cashing in on the Biden name around the world,” says GOP Rep. James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, who is helping leading the criminal referral process.
“Despite this record of evidence, President Biden continues to lie to the American people about his involvement in these influence peddling schemes. It appears making false statements runs in the Biden family. We’ve caught President Biden’s son and brother making blatant lies to Congress in what appears to be a concerted effort to hide Joe Biden’s involvement in his family’s schemes.”
Comer along with two other GOP House committee chairmen – Judiciary’s Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan and Ways and Means’ Missouri Rep. Jason Smith – wrote the referral letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, in which they recommend the Bidens be charged charged for false statements. Additionally, they recommended Hunter Biden be charged for perjury
You can read the referral below:
Criminal Referral – 6.5.24.pdf
The Republicans identified three instances in which they believe Hunter Biden lied to the committee.
The committee also argue presidential brother James Biden lied in his deposition by:
However, Hunter Biden contradicted these statements in his own testimony, claiming James Biden was present at a meeting with him and Bobulinski.
“Lying to Congress is a serious crime with serious consequences,” Jordan said. “Hunter and James Biden did just that. They lied to coverup President Biden’s involvement in their family’s international influence peddling schemes that have generated millions of dollars. These criminal referrals are a reflection of criminal wrongdoing by the Biden family, and the Department of Justice must take steps to hold the Bidens accountable.”
These new referrals are part of House Republicans’ recent efforts to pivot from investigation to accountability as the November Election Day fast approaches. This new push includes the criminal referrals and efforts to defund part of the Biden administration.
House Republican leadership remains cautious about rushing to impeach President Biden based on the findings of the inquiry. “In general, the impeachment power is one that we wield very carefully here, as I’ve said so many times. Next to declaration of war, it’s the heaviest power that Congress has. And it needs to be very methodical,” House Speaker Mike Johnson said Tuesday, according to Roll Call.
“I think President Biden is the worst president in the history of the country, and there may well be impeachable offenses,” . “There is an investigation process … and the process continues. So I’m not making any commitment on that this morning. We have to let the constitutional process and our constitutional responsibility play out.”
The criminal referrals are likely to face roadblocks at the Justice Department, which is under the authority of President Biden’s handpicked attorney general in Garland.
The agency has hindered aspects of the House Republicans’ investigation thus far, including by refusing to supply an audio recording of President Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur over Biden mishandling of classified documents.
The department also faced allegations that it has retaliated against other impeachment witnesses for cooperating with the probe. However, Chairman Smith believes the referrals will give the department a chance to prove President Biden’s own claims that no one is above the law.
“President Biden claims no one is above the law. We will soon see his Department of Justice put that principle to the test,” Smith said in a statement. “Congress cannot allow anyone, not even the president’s son or his brother, to stand in the way of its oversight of the executive branch or deny the American people the accountability they deserve.”
