Colorado State Flower: Columbine

The state flower of Colorado is the Rocky Mountain Columbine (Aquilegia caerulea). The Rocky Mountain Columbine is a beautiful and delicate wildflower with unique two-tone flowers. It features white petals and deep blue-violet sepals, giving it a striking appearance.

The flower’s colors are said to symbolize Colorado’s blue skies and snow-capped mountains. The Rocky Mountain Columbine was designated as the state flower of Colorado in 1899. It is cherished for its beauty and its connection to the state’s rugged and scenic landscapes.

The Rocky Mountain Columbine (Aquilegia caerulea) is a perennial wildflower native to the western United States, particularly the Rocky Mountain region. It is a member of the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae) and is known for its striking and distinctive flowers.

Flowers: The flowers of the Rocky Mountain Columbine are its most defining feature. They have a unique and elegant design with white petals that form a star-like shape and deep blue-violet sepals that extend backward. The sepals are often mistaken for petals, creating a visually stunning contrast. In the center of the flower are bright yellow stamens and delicate, nectar-filled spurs that attract pollinators.

Leaves: The Rocky Mountain Columbine has fern-like, light green leaves that grow along the stems. The foliage adds to the plant’s overall attractiveness, even when it is not in bloom.

Habitat: As its name suggests, the Rocky Mountain Columbine thrives in mountainous regions, often found at elevations between 6,000 to 10,000 feet (1,800 to 3,000 meters) above sea level. It prefers well-drained soil and is commonly found in open woodlands, meadows, and rocky slopes.

Blooming Season: The Rocky Mountain Columbine typically blooms in late spring to early summer, depending on the elevation and climate. Its flowers provide a valuable source of nectar for pollinators like bees and hummingbirds during this time.

Cultural Significance: The Rocky Mountain Columbine holds special significance for the state of Colorado, where it is designated as the official state flower. Its blue and white colors are said to represent the blue skies and snow-capped mountains of the region. It is celebrated in various festivals and events throughout the state.

The white and lavender Rocky Mountain Columbine was designated the official state flower of Colorado in 1899 after winning the vote of Colorado’s school children.

Discovered in 1820 on Pike’s Peak by mountain climber Edwin James, the Rocky Mountain columbine (Columbine Aquilegia caerulea) is a lovely flower with a rich aroma to attract bees, hummingbirds and butterflies to its nectar. The Latin word aquila means “Eagle” and refers to the claw-like spurs at the base of the flower.

Columbines bloom in pastel shades of blue, violet, red, yellow and white. There are 70 species of columbines in the world and about 1/3 are native to North America. Colorado specifies the white and lavender Rocky Mt. Columbine which has blue-violet petals and spurs, a white cup and yellow center. Blue is a symbol of the sky, white represents snow, and yellow symbolizes Colorado’s gold mining history.

    1. Morning, Pat! Glad to help out! The only one I don’t change is in my truck and, since I only use it once or twice a month, it will be a while before that one gets changed! LOL – Dark here, too, of course but my temp right now is 24!

it really did help. i mean we “lost” the hour while we were watching dvds–so no loss there…went to bed at our normal time and woke up at our normal time…didn’t even really notice it this time.
we just had a brief snow shower, but the sun is trying to come out now

        1. I think it’s the principle of taking it in gradually vs. slam-bam-in your face first thing when you get up in the morning. Totally clear skies here and, now that the sun is up, I expect it will warm up quickly.

  2. Professionally Trained to Argue and Ignore Personal Values

Some lawyers are good, honest people, so it’s bad to overgeneralize, but think about how they’re trained in law school and the basis of much of their profession. They’re trained to argue. They’re trained to defend one side of a dispute regardless of the law, their personal feelings, or their values. They’re trained to manipulate whatever provisions of the legal system they can find to win. Win!…regardless of ethics, morals, or who is hurt in the process. So, it should come as no surprise that the most predominant prior profession of American politicians is attorney. Thus, they advocate for “their side” regardless of the desire or the outcomes of the citizens they serve. And if given enough power, they manipulate & weaponize the justice system against political opponents. Sound familiar? 🤔

BREAKING NEWS! MICHIGAN ELECTION FRAUD INVESTIGATION! Transcribed Letter Below:

    @BehizyTweets

    @IvanRaiklin

    @CannConActual

On March 7th 2024, at approximately 10:45 AM, I, sheriff Dar Leaf, received a subpoena for my law enforcement file no 21-2216 from DJ Hilson’s office. This subpoena demanded that I appear at 1200 N Telegraph Rd. Pontiac MI with my law enforcement files with less than 24 hour notice and not time to appear. My office currently has an ongoing investigation as it relates to dominion CEO John Poulos, Dominion employees and contractors, Jocelyn Benson, Dana Nessle, J. Alex Halderman, and others. My department is in possession of sensitive documents that are part of an ongoing investigation involving Dominion employees. These Dominion employees directed, and tasks Serbian foreign nationals to remotely access the Michigan election system. I am not willing to compromise my investigation by providing my entire file. I am attaching to this affidavit several emails to demonstrate to this Honorable Court that this is a very serious ongoing investigation. The emails in my file cooperate evidence contained in expert reports in my possession. These expert reports prove foreign access to Michigan election equipment prior to certification of the November 3rd 2020 election. In addition to Dominion emails, I’m in possession of emails from J. Alex Halderman, SOS Jocelyn Benson’s expert witness on the Antrim County civil litigation. The e-mail from J. Alex Halderman offers to help the Dominion employees, the same ones tasking the foreign nationals to enter the Michigan election system prior to certification, by rebutting statements made by president trump on television. J. Alex Halderman failed to report and disclose the serious remote security breaches to the election equipment identified by expert experts on the Antrim County case, and he concealed and hid significant evidence that is addressed in the “Halderman Rebuttal” expert reports. Further, he incorrectly dismissed the vote shifting that occurred in Antrim blaming the local clerk for “human error” when in fact the correct, and corroborating vote shifting explanation as explained in the “Rebuttal Report” and corroborated with Dominion emails. [exhibit 1]. I intend to file a motion to Quash the subpoena attached as well as a civil lawsuit against the Muskegon County prosecutor D. J. Hilson for attempting to usurp my investigation. D. J. Hilson worked with AG Dana Nessel and successfully buried the Muskegon County fraud that is now under investigation by the FBI. The Muskegon County Prosecutor failed to appropriately prosecute as requested by the Muskegon Police Department. Moreover, this court should know that my office and our central dispatch had our network line go down on March 7th 2024 at about 4:00 AM through March 7th 2024 until approximately 5:23 PM. Attorney Lambert has been working for me, and my office, since December of 2020, and I believe this subpoena is an attempt to obstruct delay my very serious investigation. Respectfully, Sheriff Dar Leaf March 8th 2024

  4. Good morning, Miss Pat!

Re: wheelchair sewing – I have not solved the problem of stabilizing the lower leg pillow supports yet, but made black overlap pillow covers for five pillows out of different fabrics. This replaces the pillows and shams that were lost/stolen.

Last night I selected a medium firm polyfil pillow and placed it crossways under her knees over the base foam pillow and buckled the shin strap over her lap robe.  This seemed to work well – since she slept all night last night without her legs getting out of place and her having to wake me to ‘straighten her legs’ and get them comfortable.

Outfitting a wheelchair and solving comfort issues for someone with a progressive disease produces temporary solutions anyway – what works well one month may not work in the future – as her needs and abilities change. There are always new challenges and problems to solve.

One great thing – the pacemaker seems to have made her heart rate stronger – and she no longer has all that puffy edema in her feet. The pacemaker controls slow heart rate, bradycardia, but she still has spells of tachycardia for which we give her 1/2 or 1/4 tablets of quick acting metoprolol tartrate over her prescribed dose of 25 mg extended release metoprolol succinate morning and evening.

Every day, I have learned to turn to GOD for help, strength, wisdom, inspiration – and that the Lord is indeed this sheep’s Shepherd as BakoCarl’s Sunday Devotion teaches us.

  6. Just The News: “A federal judge ruled on Friday against the Biden administration’s plans to re-direct money from border wall construction to other projects more to its liking, such as environmental remediation.

Judge Drew B. Tipton, of the Southern District of Texas, said that it is up to Congress how that money is spent. Congress allocated nearly $1.4 billion for wall-building for fiscal years 2020 and 2021, according to The Washington Times. But the Biden administration argued that the “remediation projects” they wanted to spend that money on were ancillary to the wall, and that it should be allowed.

Judge Tipton said that based on the way the law was written, it was clear and specific that the money was intended to be spent on barriers along the border. “The central question in this case, then, is this: Has the Government obligated FY 2020 and FY 2021 funds for the ‘construction of [a] barrier system’? The answer is largely no,” the judge concluded.

Texas is one of the plaintiffs challenging Homeland Security. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was pleased with the ruling: “Biden acted completely improperly by refusing to spend the money that Congress appropriated for border wall construction, and even attempting to redirect those funds,” he said. “His actions demonstrate his desperation for open borders at any cost, but Texas has prevailed.”

Judge Tipton has put his ruling on hold for one week to allow the Biden administration the chance to appeal.

In another ruling Friday, Judge Tipton sided with the Biden administration that states do not have standing when it comes to challenging an expansive use of “parole” to allow in migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela and Nicaragua, according to The Washington Times.

“That program welcomes up to 30,000 unauthorized migrants a month, as long as they alert Homeland Security they are coming and they fly into airports rather than surge across the southern border.”

  7. “Newt Gingrich defines what he sees as the keys to ‘President Trump’s Triumph’ —Among the characteristics he cites are that Trump is smart, that he works, that he is deeply strategic and loves what he is doing.”

    By Just the News staff

    Updated: March 9, 2024 10:35pm

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Former Speaker of the House and political commentator Newt Gingrich has pointed to former President Donald Trump as being the leader of a political movement, not just the Republican Party, and he explains how he believes this came about and what it means.

With Super Tuesday under his belt, Trump has now won 24 out of 26 primaries so far this year in his quest to become only the second person to win the presidency in non-consecutive terms.

Gingrich argues that President Trump is far more than a candidate. “He is the leader of a national movement. As the movement’s champion, he can survive attacks and legal assassination attempts that would destroy normal candidates,” he writes on his website, Gingrich360.

Gingrich cites what he calls “at least seven unique personal characteristics that have led to President Trump’s Triumph.” He says “they involve practical, common-sense analysis which Trump Derangement Syndrome seems to block most reporters and analysts from recognizing.”

Among the characteristics he cites are that Trump is smart, that he works, that he is deeply strategic and loves what he is doing. The others include that he is tough, that he is not a traditional conservative, and that he focuses on achievements.

To back up the claim that Trump is smart, he says “He is a billionaire. He beat 15 other Republicans to become the GOP nominee in 2016 – and Hillary Clinton – when all the so-called experts said this was impossible. President Trump survived eight years of unending lies against him by the deep state and the elite media.”

To make the case that Trump loves what he is doing, he writes that “President Trump gains energy from people. He is amazingly existential and focused on the present in a way which gives him authenticity and allows him to focus his energy and his efforts on the immediate.”

To argue that he is tough, Gingrich writes, “I don’t know of any other American leader who could have taken the beating he has taken and still be standing. Yet he is always enthusiastic and ready to fight through another day. He sees himself as engaged in an historic mission to save America – and he accepts that the leader who wants to save the country must be prepared to pay the price for patriotism.”

Gingrich concludes that “Super Tuesday was President Trump’s triumph. His election in November will be the American people’s triumph.”

  8. Just The News: “Elon Musk on Saturday blasted legacy news media for portraying him as anti-immigrant for opposing illegal border crossings, saying he is “very much in favor of increased and expedited legal immigration.”

The owner of X has used his social media platform in recent weeks to decry open border policies and the security dangers of letting in so many unvetted illegal aliens. Media personalities have begun criticizing his position.

On Saturday, Musk addressed the criticisms head-on.

”Because I am raising concerns about the flood of unvetted illegal immigrants overwhelming American cities, the press will often characterize me as ‘anti-immigrant,’” Musk wrote on X. “As an immigrant myself, nothing could be further from the truth.

“I am very much in favor of increased and expedited legal immigration for anyone who is talented, hard-working and honest,” he added. “It is bizarrely difficult and agonizingly slow to immigrate to the USA legally, but trivial and fast to enter illegally! This obviously makes no sense.”

  9. Just The News: “Irish voters went to the polls on Friday, where they rejected proposals backed by the prime minister to replace constitutional references to the makeup of a family and a mother’s “duties in the home,” in a major defeat for the government.

Prime Minister Leo Varadkar had called for the vote, held to coincide with International Women’s Day on Friday, as a chance to delete some “very old-fashioned, very sexist language about women.”

The results of the vote were announced on Saturday. One proposal would have expanded the definition of family from a relationship founded on marriage to one that includes other durable relationships. It was rejected by 67.7% to 32.3%, according to Reuters.

A second referendum proposed replacing language involving a woman’s duties in the home with a clause recognizing the role of other family members providing care, and it was rejected by 73.9% to 26.1%.

Speaking to reporters in Dublin on Saturday, Prime Minister Varadkar said the voters had given his government “two wallops.”

“It was our responsibility to convince a majority of people to vote yes, and we clearly failed to do so.”

“Clearly we got it wrong,” he said. “While the old adage is that success has many fathers and failure is an orphan, I think when you lose by this kind of margin, there are a lot of people who got this wrong and I am certainly one of them,” according to The Associated Press.

Opponents argued that the constitutional amendments were poorly worded, leaving voters confused with the choices that some feared would lead to unintended consequences.”

Just The News: “Alaska’s Supreme Court ruled on Friday that in order for law enforcement to be able to use cameras with zoom lenses or aircraft and binoculars to surveil areas around homes, they must first get a warrant.

The ruling goes back to a case from 2012, when Alaska State Troopers got a tip that John William McKelvey III was growing marijuana on his property north of Fairbanks, according to The Associated Press.

Because his property was heavily wooded, the troopers were unable to get a clear look at what was there, which included a house and a greenhouse, and a gate kept cars from driving onto the property.

The troopers who followed up on the tip flew close enough to McKelvey’s property to use a camera with a high-power zoom lens to take photos of the greenhouse, from which they could view buckets with “unidentifiable plants” in them, according to The Hill

Based on the tip and the photos they took, the troopers were able to obtain a search warrant for McKelvey’s property. The search turned up items including marijuana plants, methamphetamine, scales, a rifle and cash.

McKelvey attempted to have the evidence suppressed, but a lower court denied the attempt and he was convicted on charges involving a controlled substance and a weapons misconduct count. On appeal, a judge ruled that his motion to suppress and been wrongly denied, and that ruling was upheld by the Alaska Supreme Court.

“The Alaska Constitution protects the right to be free of unreasonable searches,” the ruling states, according to the AP. “The fact that a random person might catch a glimpse of your yard while flying from one place to another does not make it reasonable for law enforcement officials to take to the skies and train high-powered optics on the private space right outside your home without a warrant.”

An attorney for McKelvey, Robert John, called the ruling a “tremendous decision to protect the rights of privacy of Alaskans and hopefully set an example for the rest of the country,” according to the AP. He told The Hill that the Supreme Court’s ruling is a “tremendous victory for the privacy rights of all Alaskans.”

The Alaska Department of Law told The Hill it is reviewing the ruling.”

      1. EXCERPT: “The future of vaccines may look more like eating a salad than getting a shot in the arm. UC Riverside scientists are studying whether they can turn edible plants like lettuce into mRNA vaccine factories.

Messenger RNA or mRNA technology, used in COVID-19 vaccines, works by teaching our cells to recognize and protect us against infectious diseases.

One of the challenges with this new technology is that it must be kept cold to maintain stability during transport and storage. If this new project is successful, plant-based mRNA vaccines -; which can be eaten -; could overcome this challenge with the ability to be stored at room temperature.

The project’s goals, made possible by a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, are threefold: showing that DNA containing the mRNA vaccines can be successfully delivered into the part of plant cells where it will replicate, demonstrating the plants can produce enough mRNA to rival a traditional shot, and finally, determining the right dosage….”

  11. ENTIRE ARTICLE: “DEARBORN COUNTY, Ind. (WKRC) – A local high schooler was told to remove an American flag from his truck by his school. School leaders are now apologizing after a social media post went viral. The principal said it was a misunderstanding and that the school reversed its decision in 24 hours.

Cameron Blasek, a student at East Central High School, was pulled into the principal’s office over the situation. He said that they asked him to take it down or be threatened with insubordination. Blasek said that it wasn’t a problem all school year until now.

He put up the flag because he said it’s a unique way to show his pride for the country and pay respect to those who lost their lives fighting for his freedom. Blasek said the school admin asked him twice to remove it and twice he stood his ground.

“He said, ‘You got to take it down.’ And I said, ‘But there’s no written rules or anything about that in the Student Handbook.’ I even read off to him [the] student handbook and all the guidelines in there, the word flag isn’t even in there, aside from the flag twirling section,” Blasek said.

He said the school argued that since there wasn’t a written rule, it could enforce one on a case-by-case basis. He even said that the school tried to say that since his truck was on school property, the school had the right to ask him to take it down.

“Well, he’s like, ‘The school has a right to request that you remove the flag off the back of your vehicle.’ I said, ‘You’re right.’ I said, ‘The school does have a right to request that, but since it’s just a request, a request means that you’re not demanding or telling me that I have to. So, I’m going to decline your request,’” Blasek said.

Blasek said he still doesn’t know what prompted the request.

Principal Tom Black said no high school staff member or administrators stated or insinuated that the flag of the United States was offensive, nor has there ever been a complaint received about the U.S. flag. But, word still got around.

“People were sending me messages throughout the night and everything of everybody going out and buying flags left and right. I was getting messages. My phone was blowing up,” Blasek said. He said at least two dozen students donned flags. The school apologized adding that students are “allowed” to fly an American flag.

“That was kind of a shocker because I don’t see the “confusion” on you telling a student to take an American flag down off the back of their truck,” Blasek said. Blasek is planning on joining the military after high school. He said that he’s still deciding on which branch.

Principal Black said they tried to meet with students who displayed the flag to clarify, but weren’t able to meet with all of them before the viral post. He also said there’s no plan to change the school’s current handbook.

Lara Trump on Maria this morning: for the first time ever, the RNC has an Election Integrity Division; 3 pillars they will focus on – turn out the vote, protect the vote, and raise money. “I would argue that maybe the most important of those 3 is to protect the vote….We can never allow what happened in 2020, and the questions that surrounded that election, to happen again.”

Vast resources dedicated solely to protect the vote; nationwide network of poll watchers, trained poll workers, paid and volunteer attorneys. Currently have 78 lawsuits out right now in 23 states to make it easier to vote and harder to cheat. “To anyone out there who is thinking about cheating in this election, we WILL go after you, you WILL be prosecuted to the full extent of the law!”

“I can guarantee you that over the next 8 months, you are going to see things happen at the RNC unlike you have ever seen before because this is a must-win election. I uncovered the doggie door, pushed it a couple of times and he came right in. So I got a dish of food for him – he ate and promptly left. It’s possible, I suppose, that he has been staying under the shed thru the winter.
