Mardi Gras World

The rich history of Kern Studios dates back to 1932, when the first mule-drawn float was built on the back of a garbage wagon.

The Early Days

The early days of what has grown into Kern Studios started with Roy Kern, a local artist-turned-sign-painter who worked his way through the Depression by painting names and signs on the bows of freighters and barges.

Roy and his son Blaine built their first Mardi Gras float together on the back on a mule-drawn wagon in 1932. Unable to pay his mother’s medical bills, Blaine offered to paint a mural in the hospital, which caught the eye of a surgeon who was also the captain of a Mardi Gras Krewe. This captain invited Blaine to design and build floats for his Krewe, and Kern Studios was officially founded in its current form in 1947. One float led to another, and before long Blaine became the city’s leading parade designer and builder, working with Rex, Zulu and other legendary krewes.

Mr. Mardi Gras

Blaine Kern traveled throughout Europe to apprentice under the world’s leading float and costume makers. During several trips to Italy, France, and Spain, Blaine became inspired by the extravagant concepts and animation that marked the European style of float building.

He brought these ideas to New Orleans and developed the monumental scale and lavish ornamentation of today’s spectacular Mardi Gras floats. Blaine Kern was instrumental in the formative years of some of New Orleans’ biggest parades and “Super Krewes” and is still known as “Mr. Mardi Gras.”

THE CREATION OF MARDI GRAS WORLD

After many requests for private tours of Kern Studios from people wanting a sneak-peak of Mardi Gras, the Kerns decided to open up the working studio to the public. In 1984, Mardi Gras World was created as a tourist attraction to provide visitors a behind-the-scenes look of our work. Widely successful, the attraction draws hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world each year.

  2. We’re up to 42 and the wind has dropped a bit, thankfully. I was able to get all 3 feeders back up. Not seeing much rain yet, still cloudy, but I think we’re supposed to have a period of heavy rain in this area for a while tomorrow.

      1. Bear in mind, we had a couple of 50+ days and a long string of bright sunshine, then some rainy days which accelerated the melting. With the sun shining, even if the temp is barely above freezing, snow is melting underneath. You don’t get enough sun, I expect.

  3. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, America First Legal (AFL) announced that the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas denied the Biden Administration’s attempt to stop a critical lawsuit filed against a key open-borders regulation, one that served as a model for portions of the recent legislation introduced in the Senate. With this hurdle being cleared, the lawsuit filed by the State of Texas and AFL can now move forward toward achieving justice for Texas and the American people.

The Biden Administration’s “Asylum Officer Rule” transfers authority given by Congress away from immigration judges to asylum officers. This rule violates both the statutory system Congress established as well as the Appointments Clause of the Constitution. The federal government moved to dismiss the suit by claiming that Texas did not have standing to sue. The court rejected the Administration’s claims and allowed Texas’s lawsuit to continue, a significant development that provides a precedent for other courts to find that Texas has standing to challenge the Biden Administration’s unlawful immigration policies.

This case also offers a rare opportunity to litigate the application of the Appointments Clause of the Constitution, which states that Congress may only vest the power to appoint “inferior Officers . . . in the President alone, the Courts of Law, or the Heads of Departments.” By attempting to use asylum officers to do the job Congress delegated to immigration judges, the Biden Administration is once again attempting to exceed the boundaries placed by the Constitution to advance its open borders policy.

Statement from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton:

“It is tremendously important for Texas and for our Constitutional order that this case is allowed to move forward. The Biden Administration must not be permitted to ignore Congress and violate the Constitution. We take every opportunity to hold Biden accountable for his unlawful overreach.”

Statement from America First Legal President Stephen Miller:

“This is an important victory in our fight to end Joe Biden’s radical plan to convert the border into a citizenship manufacturing facility. We will not relent in this fight. It is our honor to work with Attorney General Paxton and to represent the great State of Texas in the legal battle against Joe Biden’s invasion,”said Stephen Miller.

  4. so biden “willfully retained” and “disclosed classified materials” but because he describes himself as an ELDERLY MAN WITH A BAD MEMORY he walks free? and this ELDERLY MAN WITH A BAD MEMORY IS OUR PRESIDENT?

    FTA

President Joe Biden “willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency,” according to a final report released Thursday by a special counsel who investigated the case.

But special counsel Robert Hur said he was declining to prosecute Biden over his handling of classified documents about military and foreign policy in Afghanistan, and notebooks containing Biden’s entries about national security.

The FBI found that material in the garage, offices and basement den in Biden’s Wilmington, Delaware, home.

“Our investigation uncovered evidence that President Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen,” Hur wrote.

But that evidence “does not establish Mr. Biden’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt,” the special counsel wrote.

Hur in his nearly 400-page report wrote that Biden had portrayed himself as “an elderly man with a poor memory” who a criminal jury would find sympathetic.

“We conclude that no criminal charges are warranted in this matter,” the report said. “We reach the same conclusion even if Department of Justice policy did not foreclose criminal charges against a sitting president.”

  6. “Tucker, Putin, and the Apocalypse”

Why is Tucker Carlson’s interview considered pivotal for both the West and Russia?

Let us start with the simpler part: Russia. Here, Tucker Carlson has become a focal point for two polar opposites within Russian society: ideological patriots and elite Westernisers who nonetheless remain loyal to Putin and the Special Military Operation. For patriots, Tucker Carlson is simply ‘one of us’. He is a traditionalist, a right-wing conservative, and a staunch opponent of liberalism. This is what twenty-first-century emissaries to the Russian tsar look like.

Putin does not often interact with prominent representatives of the fundamentally conservative camp. The attention the Kremlin pays him ignites the patriot’s heart, inspiring the continuation of a conservative-traditionalist course in Russia itself. Now it is possible and necessary: Russian power has defined its ideology. We have embarked on this path and will not deviate from it. Yet, patriots are always afraid we will. No.

On the other hand, the Westernisers sighed with relief: see, not everything in the West is bad, and there are good and objective people, we told you! Let us be friends with such a West, think the Westernisers, even if the rest of the globalist liberal West does not want to be friends but only bombards us with sanctions, and with missiles and cluster bombs, killing our women, children, and the elderly. We are at war with the liberal West, so let there at least be friendship with the conservative West. Thus, Russian patriots and Russian Westernisers (increasingly more Russian and less Western) come to a consensus in the figure of Tucker Carlson.

In the West, everything is even more fundamental. Tucker Carlson is a symbolic figure. He is now the main symbol of the America that hates Biden, liberals, and globalists and is preparing to vote for Trump. Trump, Carlson, and Musk, plus Texas Governor Abbott, are the faces of the looming American Revolution, this time a Conservative Revolution. To this already powerful resource, Russia connects. No, it is not about Putin supporting Trump, which could easily be dismissed in the context of war with the United States. Carlson’s visit is about something else. Biden and his maniacs have effectively attacked a great nuclear power through the hands of Kiev’s unleashed terrorists, and humanity is on the verge of destruction. Nothing more, nothing less.

The globalist media continue to spin a Marvel series for infants, where Spider-Man Zelensky magically wins with superpowers and magical pigs against the Kremlin’s ‘Dr. Evil’. However, this is just a cheap, silly series. In reality, everything is heading towards the use of nuclear weapons and possibly the destruction of humanity. Tucker Carlson conducts a reality check: does the West understand what it is doing, pushing the world towards the apocalypse? There is a real Putin and a real Russia, not these staged characters and settings from Marvel. Look what the globalists have done and how close we are to it!

It is not about the content of the interview with Putin. It is the fact that a person like Tucker Carlson is visiting a country like Russia to meet a political figure like Putin at such a critical time. Tucker Carlson’s trip to Moscow might be the last chance to stop the disappearance of humanity. The gigantic billion-strong attention to this pivotal interview from humanity itself, as well as the frenzied, inhuman rage of Biden, the globalists, and the world’s citizens intoxicated with decay, testify to humanity’s awareness of the seriousness of the situation.

The world can only be saved by stopping now. For that, America must choose Trump. And Tucker Carlson. And Elon Musk. And Abbott. Then we get a chance to pause on the brink of the abyss. Compared to this, everything else is secondary. Liberalism and its agenda have led humanity to a dead end. Now the choice is this: either liberals or humanity. Tucker Carlson chooses humanity, which is why he came to Moscow to meet Putin. The whole world understood why he came and how important it is.

“ABOVE THE LAW: Special Counsel Probe Says Biden ‘Willfully Retained Classified Material’, No Charges Brought Because Joe’s an ‘Elderly Man With Poor Memory’ Who a Jury Wouldn’t Convict.”

ENTIRE ARTICLE @ National Pulse: “Robert Hur, special counsel, has announced his decision not to charge former Vice President Joe Biden in relation to the mishandling of classified materials. Hur’s investigation found evidence indicating Biden “willfully retained” documents critical to national security after his vice presidency, while he was a private citizen. “Our investigation uncovered evidence that President Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen,” the report explains, but says evidence “does not establish Mr. Biden’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”

The report takes particular aim at Biden’s cognitive abilities, which have recently been underscored by his claims to have discussed the events of January 6th, 2021, with long-dead French President Francois Mitterand. Biden’s memory, says the special counsel report, “was significantly limited.”

It added: “We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory… It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him — by then a former president well into his eighties — of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.”

“In his interview with our office, Mr. Biden’s memory was worse. He did not remember when he was vice president, forgetting on the first day of the interview when his term ended (“if it was 2013 – when did I stop being Vice President?”), and forgetting on the second day of the interview when his term began (“in 2009, am I still Vice President?”).

He did not remember, even within several years, when his son Beau died. And his memory appeared hazy when describing the Afghanistan debate that was once so important to him. Among other things, he mistakenly said he “had a real difference” of opinion with General Karl Eikenberry, when, in fact, Eikenberry was an ally whom Mr. Biden cited approvingly in his Thanksgiving memo to President Obama.”

The refusal to prosecute Biden due to his age and poor cognitive function flies in the face of the persistent establishment talking points that “no one is above the law.” Indeed, in this instance, the special counsel appears to make the case that because no jury would prosecute Biden despite his obvious guilt, the case must be dropped.

The report also details how Biden leveraged the sensitive government information for profit, using notebooks he should not have had for a book published in 2017: “After the vice presidency, Mr. Biden kept these 2 classified notebooks in unsecured and unauthorized spaces at his Virginia and Delaware homes and used some of the notebooks as reference material for his second memoir, Promise Me, Dad, which was published in 2017.”

A ghostwriter is also said to have “found” classified material in a rental unit in Virginia, “in a badly damaged box surrounded by household detritus.”

The special counsel report goes further into Biden’s mental incapacity, adding: “We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.

Based on our direct interactions with and observations of him, he is someone for whom many jurors will want to identify reasonable doubt. It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him – by then a former president well into his eighties – of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.”

  9. Interesting angle, focusing on the “scathing assessment” of the prosecutor. This article has a bit more detail:

EXCERPT: “The White House was permitted to review the special counsel’s report before it was released publicly. In a letter dated Feb. 5, President Biden’s lawyers vehemently criticized Hur’s decision to use “prejudicial language” to describe President Biden’s memory.

“We do not believe that the report’s treatment of President Biden’s memory is accurate or appropriate,” White House wrote Hur in a letter, appended to the report. “The report uses highly prejudicial language to describe a commonplace occurrence among witnesses: a lack of recall of years-old events,” the letter continues.

“Such comments have no place in a Department of Justice report, particularly one that in the first paragraph announces that no criminal charges are ‘warranted’ and that ‘the evidence [emphasis original] does not establish Mr. Biden’s guilt.’ If the evidence does not establish guilt, then discussing the jury impact of President Biden’s hypothetical testimony at a trial that will never occur is entirely superfluous,” the White House added.”
    ——————-
“As it relates to the names and what he was trying to say, many people, elected officials, many people, you know, they can misspeak sometimes, right?” Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters. “And so this happens. You know, it happens to all of us and it is common,” she added.”
