Arizona State Flower: Saguaro Cactus

Identifying Features

The saguaro cactus (Carnegiea gigantea) is one of the defining plants of the Sonoran Desert. These plants are large, tree-like columnar cacti that develop branches (or arms) as they age, although some never grow arms. These arms generally bend upward and can number over 25. Saguaros are covered with protective spines, white flowers in the late spring, and red fruit in summer.

Habitat

Saguaros are found exclusively in the Sonoran Desert. The most important factors for growth are water and temperature. If the elevation is too high, the cold weather and frost can kill the saguaro. Although the Sonoran Desert experiences both winter and summer rains, it is thought that the Saguaro obtains most of its moisture during the summer rainy season.

Range

You find this cactus in southern Arizona and western Sonora, Mexico. At the northern portion of their range they are more plentiful on the warmer south facing slopes. A few stray plants can also be found in southeast California.

Wild Status

The saguaro is not currently listed as threatened or endangered. Arizona has strict regulations about the harvesting, collection or destruction of this species.

Life Span

With the right growing conditions, it is estimated that saguaros can live to be as much as 150-200 years old.

Size

Saguaro are very slow growing cactus. A 10-year-old plant might only be 1.5 inches tall. Saguaro can grow to be between 40-60 feet tall. When rain is plentiful and the saguaro is fully hydrated it can weigh between 3200-4800 pounds.

Quick Facts

The saguaro is the largest cactus in the United States.

Most of the saguaro’s roots are only 4-6 inches deep and radiate out as far from the plant as it is tall. There is one deep root, or tap root that extends down into the ground more than 2 feet.

After the saguaro dies its woody ribs can be used to build roofs, fences, and parts of furniture. The holes that birds nested in or “saguaro boots” can be found among the dead saguaros. Native Americans used these as water containers long before the canteen was available.

    1. Morning, Pat! 44 here this morning, rain predicted today and tomorrow with wind, then back down to the 30’s. At least all the snow will be gone before the temp drop.

            1. I had gotten a notice from the VA that I needed to schedule my annual check-up. I was putting off calling when I got a call from that guy, Perry, who works at the Norfolk clinic. But he was calling to tell me that I was due to a mammogram, which I declined after asking if I was allowed to w/o losing my health coverage. He assured me that wouldn’t happen – uh-huh! I told him about the issues I am still dealing with and told him that, IMO, it was simply a cost-saving measure to avoid an expensive procedure – no answer from him, of course! SMH

So … according to a DC appeals court … Barack Obama doesn’t have Presidential immunity. Bill Clinton doesn’t have Presidential immunity. George Bush doesn’t have Presidential immunity. Joe Biden doesn’t have Presidential immunity.

Reading the DC Appeals Court decision. Lots of comments later but right now I’m headed for a cross-country flight so time is limited. Initial impression: “We beg you, Justices of the Supreme Court, please take this nightmare off our hands.” This thing is written in a way that begs for SCOTUS review.

    1. Strip Trump of immunity, meaning in federal courts, former Presidents don’t have it 2. Jack Smith’s appointment is annulled by SCOTUS since he wasn’t a federal officer when Garland erroneously made him a SC 3. Trump is re-elected. None of the cases against him had any real crimes involved, they had no legs. 4, Due to the uncovering/exposure of massive crimes against humanity, particularly children by many elites, including former Presidents, who will no longer enjoy immunity, war crimes tribunals will be conducted by an international military court.

Zelensky knows the whole story. He knows a lot that I don’t know. I can give you half the documents. He’s got the whole file. Which means, if he says Joe I need 60 bill: Joe says, Yes sir… Joe I need another 20 bill.. You want to see the other pictures of Hunter? What about the foreign bank accounts. Joe you know we put a lot of money in foreign bank accounts for you? But I have the bank accounts numbers. What do you think would happen if we started opening those bank accounts. You better give me the 60 bill…”

  7. More fucking shenanigans/manipulation!

ENTIRE ARTICLE @ JustTheNews: “The GOP-led House rejected on Tuesday evening a resolution to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

The final vote on the resolution took place after nearly 3 hours of debate on the House floor.

Mayorkas was charged with two articles of impeachment over his handling of border security and illegal immigration. The articles are related to a “breach of trust” and a “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law.”

The current GOP majority in the chamber is 219-212.

A handful of House GOP lawmakers had indicated that they would vote against the resolution on the floor, arguing that it would set a new precedent that could backfire on a future Republican administration. The resolution failed 216-214 with 4 no votes from Republicans, including Reps. Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin, Tom McClintock of California, Ken Buck of Colorado and Blake Moore of Utah.

Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., told Just the News that Moore changed his vote to no so the resolution can be brought up again next week. He predicted that it will pass at that time.

“There will be a trial,” he said during an interview after the vote.”

Why not, the Radical Left does it viciously to well run, Conservative companies – and people! Very nasty, but it’s the way they play the game! On the other hand, Anheuser-Busch spends $700 Million a year with our GREAT Farmers, employ 65 thousand Americans, of which 1,500 are Veterans, and is a Founding Corporate Partner of Folds of Honor, which provides Scholarships for families of fallen Servicemen & Women. They’ve raised over $30,000,000 and given 44,000 Scholarships. Anheuser-Busch is a Great American Brand that perhaps deserves a Second Chance? What do you think? Judge in Trump Case’s Husband Issued Warning of Donald’s ‘Retribution’

The husband of Judge Florence Pan, who is deciding on Donald Trump’s presidential immunity case, warned about the former president’s “retribution” if he wins the 2024 presidential election.

Several remarks from Pan’s husband, Max Stier, the president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service, calling out the former president resurfaced in recent days, drawing scrutiny from some conservatives.

In a Politico interview published in December 2023, Stier warned about potential “retribution” that could stem from Trump’s plan to reclassify 50,000 civil servants into “Schedule F,” which would allow the president to unilaterally fire them.

  10. “The Desperate Failing Plan for a New American Century—They are few and we are many, and they must be stopped.”
    GREG REESE
    FEB 7, 2024

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “On January 16th of 1991, as the Soviet Union was collapsing and the cold war coming to an end, George H.W. Bush publicly announced a new campaign of American dominance which he called, the New World Order.

‘This is an historic moment. We have in this past year made great progress in ending a long era of conflict and Cold War. We have before us the opportunity to forge for ourselves and for future generations a new world order, a world where the rule of law, not the law of the jungle, governs the conduct of nations. When we are successful, and we will be, we have a real chance at this new world order, an order in which a credible United Nations can use its peacekeeping role to fulfill the promise and vision of the UN’s founders.’ ~ George H.W. Bush

Vladimir Putin told Oliver Stone that in the year 2000 he asked President Clinton if Russia could join NATO, which he said made the American delegation very nervous. They were not interested in world peace. They had different plans.

In 1997 the Project for the New American Century was founded by William Kristol and Victoria Nuland’s husband, Robert Kagan. In September of 2000 they published their agenda entitled; “Rebuilding America’s Defenses” which outlined an ambitious and aggressive plan to achieve world dominance, starting in the Middle East and ending with Russia. The document acknowledged the fact that their world domination efforts would “trouble American allies” and could therefore be a long process “absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor.”

A year after publishing this, two thousand people were murdered in the World Trade Center and blamed on a small terrorist group created by the C.I.A.. And with this catastrophic and catalyzing event, the plan for a new American century went into action.

About ten days after 9/11, I went through the Pentagon. And one of the generals called me and he says, we’ve made the decision we’re going to war with Iraq. This was on or about the 20th of September. I said, We’re going to war with Iraq, Why? He said, I don’t know. So I came back to see him a few weeks later, and by that time we were bombing in Afghanistan. I said, Are we still going to war with Iraq? And he said, ‘it’s worse than that, he said, I just got this down from upstairs meeting in the secretary of defense office today.’ And he said, ‘this is a memo that describes how we’re going to take out seven countries in five years, starting with Iraq and then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and finishing off… Iran.’ ~ General Wesley K. Clark

George H.W. Bush’s son, George W., began a propaganda campaign to sell the American public on overthrowing Iraq. Spinning lies about Weapons of Mass Destruction. “I take the threat very seriously. I take the fact that he develops weapons of mass destruction very seriously. Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists.” ~ George W. Bush

When the lies became obvious, George W. made jokes while reveling in the blood of the innocent. Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, said that murdering millions of Iraqi children was worth it.

Lesley Stahl: “We have heard that a half a million children have died. I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?” Madeleine Albright: “I think this is a very hard choice. But the price we think the price is worth it.”

The power hungry cabal, made up of close-knit families who practice multi-generational child abuse and mass mind control, began overthrowing sovereign nations. And murdering innocent civilians became the new norm for U.S. foreign policy. But their plan for global domination was failing, and starting in 2020 with the COVID scam, they began targeting U.S. citizens.

They have become desperate and they are going for broke. Slaughtering innocent Palestinians to spark a war with Iran, and sacrificing the people of Ukraine to hopelessly take on Russia.

These inbred families are getting old and they are fighting for their lives. There is too much at stake for them to ever give up which makes them more dangerous than ever. But they are few and we are many, and they must be stopped.”

  11. Nikki Haley Wants Secret Service Protection.

Former Governor of South Carolina Nimarata ‘Nikki’ Haley has officially requested that the federal government provide Secret Service protection as she continues her campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. Haley said she made the request after her campaign received an uptick in threats against her.

“We’ve had multiple issues,” Haley told The Wall Street Journal on Monday, adding: “It’s not going to stop me from doing what I need to do.” Neither Haley nor her provided any specific details regarding the threats she received.

Secret Service protection is often extended to presidential and vice-presidential candidates when it is determined necessary by the Department of Homeland Security. While protection for candidates is usually granted within 120 days of the presidential election, exceptions are made — usually by order of the President of the United States.

While former President Donald Trump is seen as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee — having won Iowa and New Hampshire in landslides last month — Haley has said she will continue her primary challenge through at least Super Tuesday on March 5th.

At a campaign event last week in South Carolina, Haley’s private security detail tackled a woman who attempted to rush the stage where the candidate was speaking. Haley was also the victim of a swatting incident where local police were falsely called to her home by an unidentified individual. Additionally, her outspoken support for Israel has drawn pro-Hamas protests at campaign events.

“When you do something like this, you get threats,” Haley said at a recent news conference when asked about the threats. “It’s just the reality.”

  12. “The Telling Reason Biden Is Using a Third Party Group to Spend $40M Attacking Trump Over His Legal Cases.”

ENTIRE ARTICLE @ National Pulse: “The United the Country SuperPAC plans to spend some $40 million on digital and television adverts smearing Donald Trump over the legal cases he is facing. The Joe Biden campaign is apparently afraid to do so directly, as it would reinforce the view the Democrat has weaponized the Justice Department against his leading rival.

Unite the Country, founded in 2019 to support Biden’s first presidential campaign, intends to target so-called “no-nos,” who view both Biden and Trump unfavorably. Trump won a 17-point lead among a similar segment of the electorate in 2016. However, Unite the Country believes Biden has the edge, based on polling in swing states Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

“We feel like this section of the electorate is critical, if not the critical, swing vote,” said super PAC director Steve Schale. “They were plus-17 Trump in the past, and the only thing keeping them where they are right now is the belief that a vote for Trump is a vote to end democracy,” he added.

While Schale said Unite the Country would be “leaning in early and often” on the January 6th cases against Trump, especially, the Biden campaign is reluctant to do so itself. “The President has said from the beginning that he wanted an independent Justice Department, and we have to do just that,” suggested campaign co-chairman Cedric Richmond, a former White House aide to Biden, last year. “So we’re not going to comment. We’re not going to focus on Donald Trump’s legal problems.”

Trump currently leads Biden in all seven swing states and enjoys a commanding lead among independents.”

  15. Re: Tucker interviewing Putin

Our Take: “Tucker’s latest endeavor is genius, and signals a new phase of Con, Inc disclosures.

DeSantis’ bid for the presidency revealed many never-Trumpers in America First clothing, but not all of them. There are many who remained Trump loyalists during the fake primary, but are now clutching their pearls at the thought of Americans hearing from the Russians first hand. A lot of effort and resources have gone into the Russia! narrative, and Tucker interviewing Putin threatens to undermine all of it.

That brings me to Sebastian Gorka, the so-called America First champion, losing his mind over the coming interview. ‘I remember when Americans didn’t do PR for KGB colonels. Well, without being agents of the Kremlin,’ Gorka tweeted upon hearing the news of Tucker’s pursuit.

So, Tucker is ostensibly an agent of the Kremlin? This is from a self-proclaimed conservative who should, by definition, value the First Amendment and the institution of free and independent journalism. Why doesn’t Gorka want Americans to hear the Russian side of things? I’m sure his answer is some variation of, ‘It’s for your safety.’ That’s what the authoritarians always say.

PAULS VALLEY, OK — Following the passing of country music star Toby Keith, a new study confirmed that 100% of men agree with Keith that they should’ve been cowboys.

The study results, released shortly after the news broke of the singer’s death, proved conclusively that Keith’s hit song was absolutely correct and that all true men, no matter their social status or background, wish they would have become cowboys.

“It’s surprisingly accurate,” said investment banker Jack Sanderson. “I live very comfortably in a large house, I own my own private plane, I have a full-time staff to cook my meals and handle chores, I can pretty much buy anything I want, and my investment portfolio will have me sitting pretty for the rest of my life. But, man… I should’ve been a cowboy.”

Some experts once scoffed at Keith’s assertion that living a simple life on the range herding cattle and getting dirty while accomplishing an honest day’s work would be ideal, but were forced to admit the veracity of the singer’s claims. “I didn’t think it was feasible, but Toby Keith was right,” said Professor Philip Jenkins of The American Song Accuracy Foundation. “Our study indicates that every male, down to a man, would go back and become a cowboy if they could. The man wasn’t just a chart-topping country singer. He was a prophet.”

At publishing time, men around the world were reportedly honoring Keith by ditching their high-paying white-collar corporate jobs to move out to the open country, buy a pair of cowboy boots and make their living riding and roping.”

MOSCOW — As the world anticipates their exclusive interview together, local witnesses reported seeing new besties Tucker Carlson and Vladimir Putin riding a bear through Moscow while chugging vodka.

The controversial independent journalist and the Russian president reportedly celebrated the conclusion of their sit-down conversation the traditional Russian way: a thrilling tandem bear ride through Red Square while passing a large bottle of Stoli back and forth.

“Yippeeeeeeeee! Faster! Go faster, Vlad! Wooo-hoooo!” Carlson was heard saying as he held the waist of a bare-chested Putin.

“They appear to have made quite a bond,” one Russian witness said. “We heard rumors that Tucker Carlson had arrived for interview with Putin. We did not know if it was true, but now we can see with our eyes. I was sitting on street corner eating bowl of stroganoff when I hear loud shouting. I look toward Kremlin and see Putin and Tucker riding magnificent bear. I heard they also bench-pressed live womans. Very manly. Very powerful.”

Mainstream media outlets and lawmakers in the United States warned that Carlson’s interview with Putin would likely be filled with false information and propaganda. “Tucker has clearly been compromised,” said Congressman Eric Swalwell. “He goes over there to interview a vicious dictator and then appears in public riding a bear and drinking vodka? I suspect they’ve reached some type of deal to rig the election for Donald Trump, but I’m waiting on word from my Chinese contacts for confirmation.”

At publishing time, rumors persisted that Carlson and Putin rode the bear all the way to the nearest body of frigid water, where they both went shirtless before plunging into the icy depths.”

“Biden Touts Productive Climate Change Meeting With French Leader Napoleon Bonaparte”
    POLITICS · Feb 6, 2024 · BabylonBee.com
    https://i.imgur.com/3gEnI94.jpg
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Members of the media were stunned and impressed yesterday after President Joe Biden touted the productive climate change meeting he had this past week with French leader Napoleon Bonaparte.

Biden made the surprising revelation to emphasize how seriously he takes the climate crisis and the great lengths to which he will go to rally other world leaders to the cause, explaining he spent several hours discussing the issue with Bonaparte in the Oval Office.

“Listen up, folks,” the president said. “Climate change is an imminent threat. I just met with… I met… I sat down with the… I met with Napoleon… on the… I talked to Napoleon there. He agreed that it’s a serious problem. We agree that it’s in the best interests of both our countries to address climate change head-on. He was there with Josephine. She’s a nice broad. She smelled like ice cream.”

Though some people raised questions about the fact that Napoleon Bonaparte has not ruled France since 1815 and died in 1821, other members of the media hailed the revelation as a true testament to Biden’s statesmanship and ability to accomplish seemingly impossible tasks in pursuit of solutions to climate change. “Critics will talk about how Napoleon has been dead for over 200 years,” one New York Times columnist said. “In reality, this just proves that when President Biden wants to meet with someone, they listen.”

At publishing time, President Biden had informed the press that he would also be attending a state dinner with Britain’s Queen Elizabeth next week.”

  19. Why is Boeing manufacturing parts for their planes in Malaysia????

    From January article:

WICHITA, United States (AP): The panel that blew out of an Alaska Airlines jetliner recently was manufactured in Malaysia by Boeing’s leading supplier, says the head of the United States federal agency investigating the incident.

Jennifer Homendy, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) chair, said her agency will look into how the part was produced by Spirit AeroSystems and installed on the plane. She made the comments to reporters in Washington after a closed-door briefing for senators.

A spokesman for Spirit AeroSystems confirmed that the plug was made in Malaysia and said the company is committed to cooperating with the NTSB.

Separately, officials said airlines have inspected 40 planes identical to the one involved in the accident. The Federal Aviation Administration said it will review information from those inspections of Boeing 737 Max 9 jets while it develops a maintenance process before letting the planes carry passengers again.

Boeing’s CEO spent the day visiting Spirit AeroSystems’ headquarters and factory in Wichita, Kansas, and vowed that the two companies will work together to “get better.”

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “While the world is spinning with countless disruptions and distractions, the World Health Organization (WHO) continues to drive negotiations on the “Pandemic Accord” and the amendments to the International Health Regulations. The final drafts of both instruments are set to be presented end of May at the next World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland.

What are these negotiations really about? In our latest “Noor Bin Ladin Calls…” episode, James gives us the bigger picture: At the heart of it, the WHO is facilitating a trade deal and the distribution of the massive fear-based, surveillance economy it is helping create.

Sundance, I’m requesting that you review Tucker Carlson’s actions. Does it not remind you of Carter Page? Election year with Dems in control, someone associated with Trump goes to Russia, Dems in the FBI leverage the trip to secure a FISA warrant and they get access to all of Trump’s current and past communications.

Plus Carlson’s past history of harsh criticisms, including these things he wrote after the 2020 election:

    I hate him passionately.”
“we are very, very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights” and that “I truly can’t wait.”
Trump’s talent, he said, is to “destroy things. He could easily destroy us if we play it wrong.”

    and

Addressing Trump’s four years as president, Carlson said, “We’re all pretending we’ve got a lot to show for it, because admitting what a disaster it’s been is too tough to digest. But come on. There really isn’t an upside to Trump.”

And these aren’t the only critical things he’s said or written, they’re just texts that were brought into the sunlight through a court case.

Even if Carter Page wasn’t an operative and just did something stupid, the damage was substantial.

We also need to remember all of the snakes who pretended to be Trump allies and then bit him later. Romney, Sessions, DeSantis, Pompeo, Pence, etc. Didn’t we learn to be wary and go where the evidence leads? Remember all of the flak you took in August 2022 criticizing DeSantis? I can see by the comments to your articles that people were very very upset that you were posting unflattering info and they didn’t want to believe it and they criticized you. But you were right.

IMO the Trump camp should now completely disassociate themselves with Carlson even though the damage is likely already done. What’s your opinion?

  28. I am adding a short daily prayer to the board. I would invite each of you, if you wish, to also add one or maybe two of your own liking. I do not want to stifle anyone but please limit yourself to one or two religious postings. here’s one I found that I liked.
