These pets have the most patient, loving personalities to allow their owners to dress them up like this. So let’s start the parade, shall we?
In the dramatic division…

In the comedic division…

In the best dressed division…

In the cute as a button division…

And finally, the group division…

I have had many pets over the years, but I have never, never dressed any of them up. (I just thought that needed to be said.)

Morning All
temp is at 20* been there since yesterday afternoon. deck looks slippery…we’ll see when it gets light.
i had a friend in high school who had an Irish Setter–a wonderful gentle dog. That dog starred in a lot of my friend’s projects–wearing sunglasses, costumes, positioned all over her house and yard. it was a riot. great dog.

Hmmm….care to try -16 temp? From what I can see, there are some cool wave patterns in the snow drifts I might try to get a picture of later, when it gets light. If I can get out the door, that is! Don’t know whether I can open the patio door – not sure how high the drifts are yet. Wind chill last night was -40/-45; today’s high is only supposed to be -9!!! The wind has dropped now, thankfully.
Even the snowplows were pulled off the road yesterday afternoon/evening. Gov. Pillen has declared a state of emergency – DOT map of NE Nebraska last night showed almost every road closed. I think I’ll give my handyman a call and see if he’s interested in doing some shoveling. At least in front of my garage (just in case I drum up the courage to try, which isn’t likely any time soon) and my front walkway/porch.
I never dressed up any of my animals, either. Irish Setters can be kind of neurotic sometimes but overall, a nice dog, very sensitive.

spend $80BILLION to recoup $360MILLION…our gov’t in action
article
Remember when Sen. Joe Manchin turned his back on those who had supported him against the far-left onslaught by voting to pass the so-called Inflation Reduction Act? And remember when that boondoggle bill contained over $80 billion in new funding for the IRS?
At the time, we were all assured that the funding would go to good use, expanding the enforcement ability of the IRS, raking in billions upon billions of dollars in unpaid taxes from (in my best Bernie Sanders voice) the “millionaires and billionaires.”
If you’re wondering how that turned out, we’ve got some hard numbers that give a pretty good idea. Ironically, the Associated Press thought it was worthy of bragging about, but a critical look tells a far different story.
The IRS says it has collected an additional $360 million in overdue taxes from delinquent millionaires as the agency’s leadership tries to promote the latest work it has done to modernize the agency with Inflation Reduction Act funding that Republicans are threatening to chip away.
Leadership from the federal tax collector held a call with reporters Thursday to give updates on how the agency has used a portion of the tens of billions of dollars allocated to the agency through Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act, signed into law in August 2022.
At first blush, $360 million might sound like a lot. That is until you consider the federal government collects somewhere around $4.45 trillion a year in tax receipts. Then one might consider that $360 million doesn’t even register when it comes to total spending.
Of the $80 billion allocated to the IRS, some $20 billion of it has already been rescinded. That still leaves $6 billion a year to be spent over the next decade. So let’s do some math here. Assuming the $360 million collected over the last year-and-a-half is a sustainable mark, that comes out to $240 million a year. Over 10 years, that comes out to $2.4 billion.
Now, I’m no math genius, but that seems like a pretty crappy investment, does it not? In fact, at the current pace, it would take 250 years for this new infusion of funding into the IRS to break even. If my math is off a bit, you’ll have to forgive me, but you get the point. We’ll all be long dead by the time the IRS collects enough in delinquent taxes from millionaires and billionaires to make a dent.
The rebuttal will be that the IRS needed the money to modernize and improve customer service. I can assure you from personal experience the customer service is still trash. Regardless, the new IRS funding was sold on the basis that it would lead to masses of money being garnered from increased enforcement against the wealthiest American, but as many suggested at the time, there simply aren’t enough “millionaires and billionaires” out there not paying their taxes to make a noticeable difference.
This situation is the epitome of the U.S. federal government and its inefficiencies. We allocated $80 billion to an agency so it could recoup a tiny fraction of a percent of that per year, and keep in mind that my critique assumes the IRS never receives another funding increase either. We all know that isn’t going to happen, so the spread will get even wider. It’s an absolute joke. In any other setting, everyone involved in this nonsense would be fired.

reading about the fanni case on yahoo–just the comments because i wanted to see how ignorant yahoo news was. 98% of the comments were along the lines of so what? what 2 people do in their private lives is no one’s business–(except that the prosecutor is enriching herself thru her boyfriend which is fraud). then they state that trump is guilty and this shouldn’t affect the case–(without a trial, trump is guilty, but fanni is not.) sigh. but then i found this one…
Big Fani bombshell!
Fani paid her boyfriend $700k, who has never tried a case anything like this, to be the lead attorney on this case. She could have gotten one of her deputies to lead this and saved the taxpayers $700k.
Fani’s Boyfriend did not file the correct disclosures after accepting this appointment.
Fani did not get authorization to spend this money. That’s a felony.
Fani took overseas vacations with her boyfriend who spent all his money wining and dining Fani. Since the money was not authorized, Fani accepted illegal bribes and sexual favors, more felonies.
Fani is being called as a witness in her boyfriend’s divorce proceedings. Conflict of interest. A Bar Ethics violations.
The Judge has the power to dismiss the case against all these defendants, including Trump.
Fani is in big trouble and may get to see the pokey. That’s not the Hokey Pokey so don’t turn yourself around Fani. Watch your back because your boyfriend is going to rat you out.

SO, a government that is not just hopelessly corrupt at high levels, but also hopelessly incompetent at lower levels:
Arguendo – let’s play “mean orange hitler” and see where it takes us
JAN 13, 2024
https://chrisbray.substack.com/p/arguendo
Excerpt:
One of the signs of where we are is the extraordinary recent arrest of a civilian employee of the US Army, Janet Yamanaka Mello, in Texas. Mello, a finance manager at Fort Sam Houston, allegedly stole $100 million from the federal government before anyone noticed, and used the money to build a ludicrous empire of mansions all over the country. The IRS caught her, because they noticed her buying luxury estates with no noticeable source of nine-figure income.
But get this: Mello billed the government for youth services for six years, and did so without ever providing any youth services. She made up a program, and successfully billed ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS, yes I’m shouting, for the fake thing. But the military didn’t catch her on the stealing end; the IRS caught her on the spending end. If she’d quietly moved the money offshore without making high-profile purchases, she might have gotten away with it.
More simply: The United States government paid $100 million for services that it never received, and did so without noticing.
How much of that do you think we have, out there, going unnoticed? The Department of Defense acknowledges that it has misplaced, you know, just a…few…trillion. That it can’t account for. So.

EXCERPT: “Even as the useless COVID mask is making a comeback throughout some parts of Western Society, witches and wizards of the World Economic Forum are brewing up a new ‘plandemic’ at The 2024 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in scenic Davos, Switzerland.
No apologies from WEF’ers for the drastic loss of human life and widespread devastation caused by their response to the Coronavirus—still being felt—worldwide—when they released their pre-planned COVID-19 ‘pandemic’ on unsuspecting masses. Incredibly, they’re about to unleash their second virus, that according to the World Health Organization “could kill 20 times more people than the recent coronavirus outbreak.”
‘Disease X fever infects Davos: WEF to plan response to whatever big pandemic is next: Heads up, this isn’t about Elon’-(The Register, Jan. 12, 2024)
WEF’ers live to frighten the masses. For them, the kill is in the thrill, which comes every time they spot anyone wearing a COVID mask, particularly WEF bootlickers in public office:
“When the World Economic Forum meets in Davos next week, global leaders are set to discuss how to prevent a future unknown “Disease X” the World Health Organization predicts could kill 20 times more people than the recent coronavirus outbreak. (The Register)
“The name might sound like something conjured up by Elon Musk, but the prospect of Disease X has been on the WHO’s radar since it deemed the fabled pathogen a research priority in 2017. The WHO prioritizes research into Disease X alongside research into diseases like COVID-19, the Ebola virus, SARS, MERS, Zika and others.”
The United Nation’s WHO is the WEF’s biggest active sidekick”…..

Today’s search on “inflation” on the Googleweb News (see below) reveals that Bidenomics isn’t done with us yet. Looks like the 2024 economy is going to be another rocky year on the 99% of us who aren’t independently wealthy.
Bidenomics – which the President is still, pushing has clearly failed.
Just as his open border policies have failed. Just as his placating the defund the police movement has failed. Just as his endorsement of sanctuary cities has failed. Just as his support of gender ideology has failed. It is time for change.”

“Now, after a whole bunch of snark – I want to write about something Jill and I have been discussing this morning. That is how much the comments section of this Substack brings to our lives.
We are all bound by our beliefs and our habits. Often, it is necessary to break habits and change ways of thought in order to effect positive change in ourselves. To do so intentionally can take a force of will each and every day. To support each other in our journeys towards being a better person, a more responsible person, a person of character, a person of learning is important.
This Substack has generated a community of writers and thought leaders that frequently change my world view perspective. The give and take – the support, the community and the questioning is something I look forward to reading everyday.
Personally, I feel like so many of you are friends. We may not know each other’s given names, but we are not anonymous to each other. This relatively small group of people – many of whom interact daily with each other and with me- matters deeply. We are a community. We are changing our worlds.
We change each other. Have a great day folks!

i say we seize the property and give him what he paid for it.
FTA
It’s not clear why Chen’s purchase does not appear in government records. The Agricultural Foreign Investment Disclosure Act requires foreign investors to report any new interest in American agricultural land to the Department of Agriculture within 90 days of the transaction.
Canada’s Irving family is the biggest foreign landowner in the country, owning more than 1.2 million acres in Maine.

staffers intend to walk off the job in support of hamas
article
Top House Republicans plan to press federal agencies to punish workers who participate in a planned walk out next week in protest of the Biden administration’s support for Israel.
Why it matters: It’s the first time Congress has gotten involved in the widespread staff-level dissent taking place within the federal government over the Israel-Hamas war.
Driving the news: Federal workers across nearly two dozen agencies including the White House, the Pentagon and the State Department plan to walk off the job on Tuesday, according to the Middle East-focused news site Al-Monitor.
The protest, led by a group of dozens of federal employees calling itself Feds United For Peace, is reportedly to observe a “Day of Mourning” on the 100th day since Israel began military operations in Gaza last October.
Hundreds of Biden administration employees are expected to participate in the demonstration, the outlet reported.
What they’re saying: “Any government worker who walks off the job to protest U.S. support for our ally Israel is ignoring their responsibility and abusing the trust of taxpayers,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said in a statement.
Johnson said he and House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) will “be working together to ensure that each federal agency initiates appropriate disciplinary proceedings” against anyone who participates in Tuesday’s demonstration.
“They deserve to be fired,” Johnson said.
Between the lines: The conservative magazine National Review made the case that the protest violates federal law, pointing to a statute punishing any federal employee who “participates in a strike … against the Government of the United States” with a fine or up to a year in prison.
The outlet noted that a strike, as defined by Cornell Law School, is “an organized and intentional stoppage or slowdown of work by employees, intending to make the employer comply with the demands of the employees.”
