Paperwhites (Narcissus papyraceus) are flowering bulbs known for their fragrant clusters of tiny white, yellow, or orange flowers. The narcissus genus also includes daffodils and jonquils. You can force paperwhites to bloom indoors in the winter anywhere, or plant bulbs outdoors in fall to grow as a spring perennial in certain regions. Forced bulbs planted in pots or in water-filled vases are a traditional holiday gift plant. Here’s how to grow paperwhite flowers in your home or garden.

Paperwhite Flower Care

Give paperwhites direct light before they bloom, then move them to a spot with indirect light.

Plant paperwhite bulbs in a well-drained potting mix or grow them in water using pebbles or gravel.

Water potted paperwhites when the top inch of soil has dried out.

Skip fertilizing if forcing paperwhite bulbs indoors.

Light

For forced paperwhites in winter, start with bulbs in a place with bright, direct sunlight, such as a south-facing window. When plants begin to bloom, move them to a cool place with indirect light. This will help extend the bloom period. Paperwhite bulbs planted outdoors in warm regions can grow well in full sun or part shade.

Soil

You can force paperwhite bulbs by planting them in a typical plant pot with drainage holes using a standard houseplant potting mix. Leave the top of the bulbs above the soil line. You can also force bulbs by placing them in a glass vase or dish filled with one to two inches of clean pebbles or gravel. Place bulbs on top of the stones, then add more stones over and around the bulbs to hold them in place with the tops still visible. Add water just to the base of the bulbs so the roots are submerged.

Water

Water potted indoor paperwhites when the top inch or so of soil has dried out. If forcing paperwhite flowers in water, add water as needed to maintain the water level at the base of the bulbs.

Temperature and Humidity

Once paperwhites flower, cooler temperatures will help preserve blooms. Move plants to the coolest place in your home with indirect light after flowers appear. Paperwhite bulbs don’t require a chilling period the way some other bulbs do. However, these Mediterranean native plants require hot, dry summers to bloom repeatedly as outdoor perennials. Gardeners in states like California, New Mexico, and Texas tend to have the most success with planting paperwhite bulbs outdoors for this reason.

Fertilizer

There’s no need to fertilize forced paperwhite bulbs, since this growing process is designed to be used for only one bloom period. For bulbs planted outdoors in appropriate regions, while it is possible to plant forced paperwhite bulbs outdoors after they flower, it may take plants a few years to replenish their energy stores enough to flower again.

Types of Paperwhites

‘Ziva’: This popular variety is valued for its prolific, pure-white flowers and musky aroma.

‘Ariel’: A more compact paperwhite, ‘Ariel’ is known for its early blooms.

‘Chinese Sacred Lily’: This cultivar native to China has flowers with buttery-yellow cups against white petals and a citrusy scent.

‘Grand Soleil d’Or’: Though you’ll wait longer for blooms, this fragrant variety pops with cheery yellow petals centered around orange cups.

‘Nir’: An early-blooming, all-white cultivar with even more flowers per stem than ‘Ziva’.

    The release of new Epstein/Maxwell-related documents has refreshed allegations that Trump was somehow complicit in the blackmailing enterprise that they ran.

    This could not possibly be more untrue.

    Though some of the transcripts that mention Trump, Mar-a-Lago, and the Atlantic City Casino are newly public, it was previously known and recently testified to in the Maxwell trial that Epstein/Maxwell targeted Mar-a-Lago and that one of the girls in that trial, “Jane,” was taken there in 1994.

    It was also previously known that Trump chartered one of Epstein’s planes to take him from Florida to New Jersey. This was testified to by the pilot when he took the witness stand in Maxwell’s trial.

    However, what is key here is that Epstein messed up by putting himself on Trump’s radar. Here’s how:

    The Atlantic City hotel was a trap for criminals from day one. The FBI and the Trump Organization coordinated during the pre-construction phase to set it up as such. Mar-a-Lago is likely similarly set up.

    Epstein/Maxwell’s targeting of Mar-a-Lago employees and guests later caused Trump to ban them from the property in 2008, shortly before Epstein pleaded guilty.

    Furthermore, and perhaps most significantly as it concerns these new documents, the very attorney who helped get them unsealed says that Trump was the only person who picked up the phone and was eager to help him investigate Epstein and Maxwell. And that was back in 2009.

    Do you know of any other acquaintances or clients of Epstein who were eager to help any investigator or journalist who was looking into Epstein or Maxwell?

    So, when you include this information (and I put the citations below), Epstein and Maxwell were walking directly into a trap set up by Commissioner Gordon and Bruce Wayne/Batman when they engaged with Trump and visited his properties!!

    PS: Another bad move Epstein made was trying to “weasel” his way back into Trump’s world in 2016, no doubt trying to make friends in high places ahead of a Trump Presidency (no doubt a Clinton Presidency would have been preferable to him, of course). And so Epstein had lunch with Trump ally Peter Thiel, who we now know was also a DOJ asset! Hahahaha!!

    PSS: Y’all know that it was Trump’s DOJ who indicted both Epstein and Maxwell, right?

Another Take: “While it can be a little frustrating to weather the Trump-Epstein conflation and obfuscation techniques blasted out by the Media Industrial Complex (including ‘Right-Wing’ media) when you zoom out a bit and consider it all through the twin lenses of a Mass Disclosure Operation and the Great Awakening, it couldn’t be going any better.

      For starters, as many have pointed out, the MAGA and Trump base already knows he’s innocent of any criminal association with Epstein, though he was a clear target of the Influence Op.

    The Left-wing media are also the ones who have been running cover for this Epstein story and pizzagate for DECADES while Right-wingers, predominantly Trump supporters, have been the only “side” trying to expose it, while facing HEAVY resistance, for YEARS!

    So spare me with the “it’s both sides!”… no it’s not. One side is ideologically focused on sexualizing children, while the resistance to widespread pedophilia is coming almost exclusively from the Right.

  13. Morning, Pat! Up to 31 this morning…too bad that’s not gonna hold. Wheezer showed up early for breakfast – I went out to give him some petting time and picked him up. He wasn’t too happy about that and jumped down but sat and looked at me when I went inside. So I went back out to pet him more and he got a bit aggressive, with a claw out, snagging my finger, and trying to bite. Alrighty then – I’ll leave you to your food! Didn’t draw blood at least. Now he is hunkered down sleeping next to his food dish.

  30. update on Tyrone…in all the excitement about coming home i forgot. he did stop in to say good luck to hubby and i asked if he consults on a private basis or does the company he works for accept clients? he said no to both…they only are employed by hospital systems.
    i asked if he ever considered doing a video series on line for asthma sufferers because he has a wonderful manner with patients and since he has the condition he speaks from experience. I told him i think he would be very helpful to a lot of sufferers.
    he was genuinely appreciative and thanked me for the encouragement. he then said he was actually leaving the respiratory group and going back to school to be a physician’s assistant! I told him he was gonna rock that profession!

  35. I got a Christmas card from a woman I went to school with–we send each other one every year. She’s a great photographer and that was her passion in high school. I was in her wedding, and we’ve kept in touch through cards and letters. I used to get a family newsletter update with one of her pictures made into a Christmas card–but since her girls have gotten married and moved out, I just get the Christmas card–still a beautiful Christmas photo every year.
    this year included in the envelope were 3 old pictures and she wrote–I thought your family would get a kick out of these!
    I’m only in one picture…LOL. i have no clue who the other pictures are of…think i should send them back to her?

      This proves once and for all Hunter Biden violated FARA.

      The firm was trying to prevent an investigation from the Obama admin and got meetings with high-level appointees including key anti-Trump impeachment witness Marie Yovanovitch.
