The Secretary Bird

Its preferred habitat is open savannas or grasslands in sub-Saharan areas. It hunts in these open areas, using its long legs to strike prey and stomp them to death. It is famous for eating snakes, but it also hunts insects and small mammals. They mate for life and one pair inhabits and defends a territory of up to 50km. Pairs lay eggs in a nest of their own making at the top of Acacia trees. They live 10-15 years in the wild and up to 19 in captivity. They are classed as endangered, with their numbers rapidly decreasing due to habitat loss.

Interesting Secretary Bird Facts

No one is quite sure where it got its name.

There are a few different theories, including that it was named by Dutch Settlers because of its resemblance to 19th Century Lawyers’ Secretaries. Another theory suggests that the name is a corruption of an originally Arabic word, meaning “hunter bird”.

Its scientific name means “the archer of snakes”.

This is because secretary birds love to hunt snakes. They use their large wingspan to distract the snake, while their scaley legs prevent snake bites.

They rarely fly.

They move around on foot most of the time, only taking to the air to reach their nests or for courtship displays.

They have a wingspan of 2m.

This is huge! They use their wings while hunting to distract their prey, and also during mating rituals.

They are one of just two birds of prey that hunt on the ground.

The only other birds that hunt on the ground are caracaras.

Secretary birds have one of the strongest (and fastest) kicks in the animal kingdom.

They can kick with a force 5-6 times their body weight. It happens fast too, in 15 milliseconds the foot can go from still to making contact.

They have been seen hunting juvenile big cat.

They’ve been spotted using their stomping hunting technique to kill juvenile cheetahs, and also baby gazelles.

They hunt in pair.

Monogamous pairs, and sometimes familiar groups, will hunt together.

Secretary birds mate for life.

Once paired up, they will stay together for life. They even use the same nest year after year.

They have elaborate mating display.

Even though they mate for life, they still perform their elaborate mating displays. They will perform “pendulum flights”, swooping up and down again. And on the ground, they dance together.

Secretary birds have large territories.

Pairs of secretary birds will inhabit, and defend, areas of up to 50 km2. However, many can be spotted together around important resources, such as watering holes.

They make their nests on the top of thorny trees.

This is almost always in an acacia tree. The nests are large, platform-like and often softened with grass and dung.

They lay 2-3 blue-green eggs.

These eggs are a few inches long and hatch after 45 days of incubation.

Sadly, the secretary bird is endangered.

This is because their grassland habitats are cleared and used for cattle.

  1. Morning All!
we slept downstairs last evening. and we got hubby some cough syrup yesterday afternoon. we had cold medicine stuff that treats (also) a cough–but it seems that other stuff for symptoms he didn’t really have, was drying out his sinuses and making things worse. so this was just for coughs. he slept from about 8:30 till 4:30 this morning. his breathing was still a little rough, and he coughed two or three times during the night–but they were nothing like he was doing. the other caveat is that he was sitting up most of the night–but still sleeping soundly.
AND the goldenseal that jam recommended arrived a day early…so he’s trying that as well.
    sigh
    fingers crossed

Let me explain what this means for those of you in Rio Linda:

The United States Attorney General does not actually have the authority to pick a private citizen from civilian life and instantly grant them the massive federal law enforcement and investigatory powers reserved for Special Counsels, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, faster than a speeding locomotive, etc. etc.

Able to overcome all state and international boundaries.

Remember, before he was granted Special Counsel status, David Weiss was already a federal prosecutor, the US Attorney for the entire state of Delaware.

Same with Robert Hur and John Durham, two other Special Counsels of recent import. Both were already federal prosecutors in the federal system.

    Jack Smith?

As far as federal statutes go, Jack Smith was a private citizen livin’ the la vida loca life in Europe when Merrick Garland tapped him to come back to the US to be the new Special Counsel to investigate Donald J. Trump and put his ass in prison.

He was not a US federal prosecutor and hadn’t been for years, since 2008.

    Imagine that.

JUST IN: Only 3 names will remain sealed out of the 150 names of associates connected to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell set to be released in the new year.

13 people fought to keep their names sealed however were unsuccessful.

The three names that will remain sealed were “classic outsiders peripheral to the events at issue” and weren’t associated with Epstein. One of the three sealed names was wrongly identified in a photo.

“This latest release will apparently have limited redactions — and thus possibly fill in some of the lingering questions about who helped Epstein,” reported the Miami Herald.

The following video was a deposition on January 25, 2012. Epstein refused to answer almost every question.

It was President Biden who had his Deputy White House Counsel, Jonathan Su, waive President Trump’s claim of executive privilege that led to the unprecedented, unnecessary, and unlawful home raid on the Office of Former President for presidential records that President Trump was allowed to have under the Presidential Records Act.

It was senior Biden Justice Department official Matthew Colangelo that went from the number three office in the Justice Department to Alvin Bragg’s office in New York to resurrect a zombie case against President Trump under a bogus legal theory.

This is lawfare driven by President Biden, and this is very destructive to our country.

In Curling v. Raffensperger Judge Totenberg held a conference with both the Plaintiffs and the Defendents in preparation for the upcoming hearing on January 9th. Documents at link below.

Raffensperger’s attorneys requested that the Judge
rule that the plaintiffs could not call Raffensperger to testify. Judge Totenberg denied their request.

It is likely that Raffensperger’s lawyer will file an appeal because Raffensperger doesn’t want to testify under oath.

Rattensperger likely doesn’t want to testify about one of the SoS election laptops in Fulton that was assessed remotely, and files erased in October of 2020. The SoS was notified of this breach and the tech company contracted by the SoS was given the ticket to work on and instructed Fulton Election Board workers to call them to work on the issue because phone calls aren’t discoverable like emails are and the SoS has a NDA with the tech company.

Asked about the incident, LaRosa, who is openly gay, told DailyMail.com that he had only tried to bring one person up to his room, a male staffer from another country’s delegation he said he met at the conference. He also insisted that he left the White House on good terms to take a job in the private sector.

When he left, White House officials publicly feted him for his 18 months of service in the East Wing. But privately, sources tell DailyMail.com, colleagues were anxious to see him gone with no fuss.

‘There was a long line of chaotic behavior, outbursts, unreliability, unpredictability, and lack of judgment that went into his last six months before his departure,’ one official said.

Colleagues bit their tongues for over a year, until LaRosa recently started criticizing the White House on cable news programs and social media.

Presenting himself as a former high-level staffer with deep knowledge of the inner workings of the Biden administration, he now makes regular appearances as a political commentator on MSNBC and CNN. And he hasn’t been shy about sticking his finger in the eyes of some of his old colleague as he dissects news of the day.

“The Miraculous Nature of Water: The structure of water is transformed by human thought”

    GREG REESE
    DEC 22, 2023
    (Video)
EXCERPT: “The stated mission of modern science is to dominate and control nature. It was born of the philosophies of Francis Bacon who suggested we could learn “to command nature in action”, and of René Descartes who wrote that mankind could become “the masters and possessors of nature.” This was science flipped on its head because the previous scientific philosophy saw nature as a perfect creation of god to be observed and understood. Take for instance, water. Without water, we would not exist. And so the true value is in understanding the nature of water so that we can flow with it, not control it.

For over 20 years, Japanese scientist, Dr. Masaru Emoto, studied the groundbreaking science of how the molecular structure in water transforms when exposed to human words, thoughts, and sounds. Dr. Emoto would simply label a sample of water with different written words such as “love and gratitude” or “I hate you.” He would then freeze the water samples and capture them as they crystallized with high-speed microscopic photography. The results were astonishing. The crystals formed from water exposed to the words, “love and gratitude” were clear, attractive, and symmetrical. And the crystals formed from “I hate you” were distorted, asymmetrical, and opaque.

Over and over again, water samples exposed to positive intention formed the hexagonal snowflake-like patterns indicative of structured water found in nature, and samples exposed to negative intention would lose its structure and mutate, which was also found to be true with samples of polluted water.

Decades of repeated experiments have clearly shown that water is transformed when exposed to human word, thought, and sound. Dr. Emoto theorized that this is because water has consciousness. Russian studies have shown that water is imprinted by the energy of its environment, and it retains memory from everything it comes in contact with, even when separated.

During the discovery of the genome, Dr. Bruce Lipton was studying cellular behavior at Stanford University and discovered that our genes switch on or off based on their environment. Human beings are made of about 50 trillion cells and each cell is its own little creature that eats, digests, reproduces, and forms communities. Each individual cell is constantly reading the quality of its environment through it’s outer membrane skin. This includes stressful emotions sensed via chemicals in the bloodstream.

And when we are stressed, negative, or fearful, then our cells will switch into their own version of fight or flight mode. They will stop the process of self-healing and begin the process of self-defense. And conversely, when we are feeling positive emotions, our cells will be switched into self-healing. And the body will thrive. Dr. Lipton’s discoveries were ignored by modern science, who opted for drugs and surgery over love and happiness….
    —————–
To thrive, this natural propulsion system requires a connection to the Earth, sunlight, positive human connection, and peace of mind. Our body is made up of over fifty trillion cells and each one’s health is dependent upon our own. Our happiness, or lack thereof, not only affects our health, it affects the health of everyone who enters our environment. So if you’d like to make the world a better place, then learn how to be happy.”

President Joe Biden took major action ahead of the holiday and pardoned all Americans arrested, prosecuted, or convicted on federal charges for marijuana use, following through on his 2020 campaign promise to expunge cannabis use offenses.

Biden signed a proclamation Friday that forgives U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents caught by law enforcement for possessing the drug and charged, going far beyond the sweeping actions he took last year for thousands of people convicted of possession.

The new action includes “additional offenses of simple possession and use of marijuana under federal and D.C. law,” the White House said in a statement issued Friday morning.

Don’t know if this is being reported widely, however, Thursday, Federal Judge, Irene Berger, of the Southern District of West Virginia, has DISMISSED the lawsuit filed by John Anthony Castro to keep President Trump off the West Virginia ballot in 2024.

The judge found that Castro could not demonstrate “standing”. Castro had described himself as a candidate for president and said Trump’s presence on the ballot would harm his chances. U.S. District Judge Irene Berger found that the evidence submitted removes “any doubt that Mr. Castro’s purported ‘campaign’ exists as a vehicle for pursuing litigation, not votes.”

Supreme Court rejects Jack Smith’s request for justices to quickly hear Trump immunity dispute
(Citizen Free Press linked to CNN. They were probably first to get the story out.)

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a request by special counsel Jack Smith to fast-track arguments on whether Donald Trump has any immunity from federal prosecution for alleged crimes he committed while in office – a move that will likely delay his trial.

The court did not explain its reasoning and there were no noted dissents.

The court’s decision is a major blow to Smith, who made an extraordinary gamble when he asked the justices to take the rare step of skipping a federal appeals court and quickly deciding a fundamental issue in his election subversion criminal case against Trump.

Both sides will still have the option of appealing an eventual ruling by the DC Circuit Court of Appeals up to the high court, but the court’s move is a major victory for Trump, whose strategy of delay in the criminal case included mounting a protracted fight over the immunity question, which must be settled before his case goes to trial.

An expedited review of the issue is already underway at the DC Circuit, which has scheduled oral arguments for January 9. The election subversion trial is currently set to begin in March…

  16. now half of Ford dealers say they won’t sell evs
    FTA
Ford said on Thursday that half of all 1,550 Ford dealers chose to sell electric vehicles in 2024—down from two-thirds that said this time last year that they would opt in to sell EVs for 2023.

The other half of Ford dealers will sell—and service—ICE and hybrid models. “EV adoption rates vary across the country, and we believe our dealers know their market best,” Ford spokesman Martin Günsberg told the Detroit Free Press.

The slack buy-in from Ford dealerships comes even after Ford relaxed its requirements for dealers in the EV dealer program last January that mandated fewer L2 chargers and extended installation deadlines. Certified Ford EV dealers were once required to spend $500,000 for a single public DC fast charger, or $1 million if they wanted to be in the Elite tier of EV dealers. The extra $500,000 was for another fast charger and demo units, among other things. But the high price tag caused Ford dealers to balk.

  19. EXCERPT: “….The results of a recent academic study are startling and controversial, to say the least.

The precarious Israeli stock market activity observed in the days leading up to Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7 suggests that a specific, nameless entity possessed knowledge of the impending assault and exploited the ensuing hysteria for personal gain.

The paper, authored by Robert J. Jackson Jr. and Joshua Mitts of New York University School of Law, concludes that unidentified individuals were cognizant of the impending operation and intended to illicitly profit, as evidenced by a “significant spike” in short selling of listed Israeli companies. (By short selling, or shorting, investors wager that a particular stock will underperform and profit if their prediction is accurate.)

Contrary to conventional trading, shorting is an exceedingly uncommon practice, and justifiably so. Numerous investment advisors caution against the practice under all circumstances, as breaches of projected poor performance can result in enormous losses.

Remarkably, the researchers discovered that the volume of short selling on Israeli companies in the days leading up to October 7 “far exceeded short selling that occurred during numerous other periods of crisis, including the recession following the financial crisis, the 2014 Israel-Gaza war, and the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Now, Israeli authorities are investigating the allegations made by the U.S. researchers:

Research by law professors Robert Jackson Jr from New York University and Joshua Mitts of Columbia University found significant short-selling of shares leading up to the attacks, which triggered a war nearly two months old.

“Days before the attack, traders appeared to anticipate the events to come,” they wrote, citing short interest in the MSCI Israel Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) that “suddenly, and significantly, spiked” on Oct. 2 based on data from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). “And just before the attack, short selling of Israeli securities on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) increased dramatically,” they wrote in their 66-page report.

The TASE subsequently directed Reuters to the Israel Securities Authority, which issued the following statement: “The matter is known to the authority and is under investigation by all the relevant parties.” The securities regulator’s spokesperson refrained from providing further details, and the Israeli police did not respond promptly either.

They wrote that Leumi (LUMI.TA), the largest bank in Israel, generated profits of $3.2 billion shekels ($862 million) from the additional short-selling of 4.43 million new shares sold short between September 14 and October 5.”…..

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “On Wednesday, a federal judge blocked a California law that would have banned the carrying of firearms in many public places, calling the legislation “sweeping, repugnant to the Second Amendment, and openly defiant of the Supreme Court.”

According to Fox News, US District Judge Cormac Carney granted a preliminary injunction blocking the law, adding that it removes people’s ability to defend themselves and their families.

The law was signed into law in September by Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom and was scheduled to go into effect on Jan. 1. The legislation banned people from carrying concealed firearms in places such as public parks, playgrounds, and religious institutions, regardless if they have a concealed weapon carry permit or not.

Chuck Michel, president of the California Rifle and Pistol Association, which sued to block the law, said in a statement, “California progressive politicians refuse to accept the Supreme Court’s mandate from the Bruen case and are trying every creative ploy they can imagine to get around it. The Court saw through the State’s gambit.”

He added that if that law had gone into effect, permit holders “wouldn’t be able to drive across town without passing through a prohibited area and breaking the law.”

Michel noted that Wednesday’s ruling makes Californian residents safer because it is a deterrent to criminals when law-abiding citizens can defend themselves.”
