        1. Cold – 31 – and partly cloudy – getting ready to download a couple of pics I took of the sunrise – and windy. But we’re supposed to be in the 50’s by the end of the week! No Christmas snow here but we might have rain!!!

I put Wheezer’s food out earlier but hadn’t seen him. When I went out to take the sunrise pics, I saw my neighbor to the south trying to get her cat under control and yelling – he was fighting with another cat down there but I couldn’t see either of the cats. I could sure hear the snarling, tho – I have no idea if Wheezer was involved in that. But their cat is much bigger than him so…we’ll see!

            1. Oh, it’s wicked – yowling, screeching, snarling – watching two cats fight is a sight to behold – claws, teeth and fur flying!

            2. This one is the preface to a fight – 9 times out of 10, this is all that happens. But if you get 2 non-neutered males and there are females in the area – look out!

    Trump on Truth Social:

As usual, completely biased Democrat Judge Arthur Engoron, without the benefit of a Jury, denied our Motion to have this political SHAM of a case dismissed. Engoron doesn’t discuss HIS Valuation of Mar-a-Lago at $18 Million, when it is worth at least 50 to 100 times that amount, but does discuss insignificant items that, when added up, are irrelevant and a very minimal part of my Financial Statements. The Banks stated that we were an ideal Customer, a premier Client, more than qualified for the Loans, which were not even needed, and that my Financial Statements were some of the best they’d ever seen. Likewise, there was no money lost by the Banks, and the obviously corrupt, power-crazed NY Attorney General’s “Star” and only Witness admitted on the stand that he lied, totally destroying the Attorney General’s “case.” Likewise, there was no money lost by the Insurance Companies, there was no money lost by anyone, there was no victim, in fact, these were all wonderful Transactions…

…as stated by the relevant Institutions. Judge Engoron challenges the highly respected Expert Witness for receiving fees, which is standard and accepted practice for Expert Witnesses. The ignorant Judge did not even try to listen to the Expert Witness. This is a great insult to a man of impeccable character and qualifications. The Judge ignores the Law! The Judge also dismisses the fact that there was a full and Complete Disclaimer Clause, which tells the users of the Financial Statements to do their own due diligence and analysis, something they openly and knowingly did and admitted to. This is a Rigged Lawsuit by a Corrupt Attorney General and a Judge and System who would not allow it to go to the Commercial Division or in front of a Jury. There was no lie except for the Judge’s Fake Valuation of my properties, such as Mar-a-Lago, which was valued at $18 Million, in order to try and make a case which doesn’t exist. This corrupt Witch Hunt has to be stopped!

  2. i can remember parks being closed–during the pandemic–beaches being closed–all sorts of kids activities curtailed. and this part about things being tougher for parents economically? wouldn’t that translate into THINNER children? not more obese ones?
    FTA
The package hasn’t changed. But “the daily hardships that families living in poverty are facing may be harder today than they were 10 years ago, and the slight increases in the WIC package just weren’t enough,” said Dr. Sarah Armstrong, a Duke University childhood obesity researcher.

The researchers faced challenges. The number of kids in WIC declined in the past decade. And the study period included 2020, the year the COVID-19 pandemic hit, when fewer parents brought their children in to see doctors. That reduced the amount of complete information available.

Despite it’s limitations, it was a “very well done study,” said Deanna Hoelscher, a childhood obesity researcher at the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health, “It gives you a hint of what’s going on.”

What’s happened since 2020 is not yet known. Some small studies have suggested a marked increase in childhood obesity — especially during the pandemic, when kids were kept home from schools, eating and bedtime routines were disrupted and physical activity decreased.

      1. see i don’t know–and i’m assuming most people don’t–what can you buy with wic?
in the article it says the “food packages” which makes it seem like these are like boxes of food they hand out. so i’m guessing there’s not a lot of fresh fruit/veggies in there?
but then there’s food stamp cards—if they can buy processed crap with those cards–then those kids aren’t getting much decent food

        1. It varies, I think. Mom goes in once a month – where, I don’t know, somewhere in Norfolk, maybe a senior center or something – and gets a bag of food items – a lot of bulk stuff – anything she won’t use, she gives away. I don’t know a lot about WIC but I do know there aren’t nearly enough restrictions – they can buy all kinds of useless crap full of chemicals, of course!

    According to the Washington Post:

The night before President Biden departed Washington to celebrate Thanksgiving on Nantucket, Mass., he gathered his closest aides for a meeting in the White House residence.

After pardoning a pair of turkeys, an annual White House tradition, Biden delivered some stern words for the small group assembled: His poll numbers were unacceptably low and he wanted to know what his team and his campaign were doing about it. He complained that his economic message had done little to move the ball, even as the economy was growing and unemployment was falling, according to people familiar with his comments, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a private conversation.

And if you, or your college kid, or anyone you care about has plans to take action “after I find myself”, know that that’s bass ackwards too. It is only by launching full tilt into ACTION based on what you already know that the process of “finding myself”, who you are, your purpose, your strengths, weaknesses, passions emerge. You will NEVER figure that out solely through contemplation and navel gazing.

    Farmers block Berlin streets
Protesters fear the German government’s austerity measures will force farms to shut down

Angry farmers blocked off the central street near the Brandenburg Gate, carrying placards reading “Your politics are a declaration of war against farmers” and “Enough is enough!” The protesters fear that the planned budget cuts will leave Germany’s agricultural sector nearly €1 billion ($1.1 billion) worse off next year. According to Berlin’s police department, around 1,700 tractors and 6,600 farmers took part in the protest.

The German Farmers Association (DBV) and the Land Creates Connection (LsV) lobby threatened to expand the demonstrations if the austerity measures are implemented. DBV President Joachim Rukwied warned at the rally that “from January 8 we will be present everywhere in a way that the country has never experienced before. We will not accept this.”

Three people are charged in connection with operating a series of brothels in the Boston area and northern Virginia. Junmyung Lee of Dedham, Han Lee of Cambridge, and James Lee of Torrance, California are charged with conspiracy to coerce and entice to travel to engage in illegal sex activity.

Last month, Levy said the brothel clientele included doctors, lawyers, military officers, professors, and executives at high-tech companies. “Pick a profession, they’re probably represented in this case,” Levy said.

Investigators said clients had to fill out a form with their name, work information, email address, phone number, and a reference before they could book appointments.

Levy said his office is working closely with Virginia authorities to begin the referral process of sex buyers from the Virginia locations.

  12. this judge is completely biased! i hope this asswipe gets reamed out by the appellate coyrt and then disbarred.
    FTA
One of the experts mentioned in the order, New York University Professor of Accounting Eli Bartov, refuted any suggestion that his payment influenced his assessment and said he was “shocked” by the judge’s remarks.
“Bartov is a tenured professor, but all that his testimony proves is that for a million or so dollars, some experts will say whatever you want them to say,” Judge Engoron wrote in the three-page ruling. “His overarching point was that the subject statements of financial condition were accurate in every respect.”

Mr. Bartov testified on Dec. 7 that he did not find any evidence of fraud in the Trump family real estate company’s financial statements, which are central to the New York attorney general’s allegations of overstating property values to gain favorable loan and insurance terms.

However, he pointed out in an email that his testimony included the fact that President Trump’s statement contained errors.

“No expert rebutted my testimony or testified that they found fraud,” Mr. Bartov said. “As to his speculation that my billing rate had anything to do with my opinion, this is my standard billing rate.”
Mr. Bartov disclosed that he billed more than $870,000 for approximately 650 hours of work, with payments received from both the Trump Organization and Save America, a political action committee supporting Trump’s 2024 election campaign.

While it is common for experts to be paid by the party seeking their involvement, Judge Engoron used the compensation to question Mr. Bartov’s credibility.

The judge said that Mr. Bartov had “lost all credibility” by “doggedly” attempting to justify every misstatement in the Statements of Financial Condition detailed in a prior summary judgment decision. He reiterated that the financial records already contained “numerous obvious errors,” which he found before the trial began.
Judge Engoron’s ruling was a “complete mischaracterization” of his testimony, Mr. Bartov said, reported CNBC.

Mr. Bartov clarified that his statements during the trial acknowledged the presence of errors in the financial statements, notably the valuation of President Trump’s triplex apartment in Trump Tower. However, Mr. Bartov asserted that he identified these errors as unintentional rather than indicative of fraud.

“I’m shocked that the judge mischaracterized my testimony in this way,” Mr. Bartov said.

In response to Judge Engoron’s ruling, Christopher Kise, a lawyer for President Trump, criticized it as a “complete failure to address the legal elements of the claims.”

“All that seems to matter is arriving at a predetermined destination,” Mr. Kise said.

  13. CA admits its energy policies are failing
    FTA
California’s dream of renewable green energy has left the state worse off, and even California Democrats have recognized just how deep the failure runs.

California energy regulators on Thursday voted to extend the lifespan of the Diablo Canyon nuclear plant by five years, moving the shutdown date from 2025 to 2030. The 2025 date was agreed to back in 2016 as California Democrats attempted to purge nuclear energy from the state’s grid.

It is yet another admission of failure by California Democrats in their embarrassing effort to turn the state into a wind- and solar-powered liberal paradise despite the technology being nowhere near making that possible. Diablo Canyon alone provides roughly 9% of the state’s electricity, leading even Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) to reverse his previous opposition to the plant and advocate its extension.

It isn’t just nuclear energy that is getting reevaluated either. Newsom went from campaigning to shut down the Aliso Canyon gas storage facility to pushing for it to be expanded. Natural gas comprised about 47% of the state’s energy in 2022, compared to just over 26% for wind and solar combined. This now marks four years of California turning to natural gas to avoid blackouts, with Newsom now taking a more proactive approach to avoid additional headlines about, for example, firing up temporary gas-field generators to keep the grid running.
